In short, the map is pretty, I find the stories interesting, the new V.A.T.S is an improvement over the Fallout 4 V.A.T.S, the map is leagues better but lacking function, the gun combat is more tolerable, the new weapons are a welcome addition, and I like the NPCs. In short, the map is pretty, I find the stories interesting, the new V.A.T.S is an improvement over the Fallout 4 V.A.T.S, the map is leagues better but lacking function, the gun combat is more tolerable, the new weapons are a welcome addition, and I like the NPCs. This is based on 10-15 hours of gameplay.

    The long version:

    Section 1: The controls
This game needs a remapping of the controls for PS4 controllers. Pressing triangle to jump is ackward. The rest of the gaming world has used the X button for jumping. I propose the following button layout for Fallout 5. Using a PS4 controller for reference.

The Touch Bar= Your map, inventory, upgrade tree, settings, etc.

    X button= Jump
    Press Square= reload
Hold Square near an NPC= interact with NPC
    Circle button= Crouch
Triangle button= bring up weapon wheel
    R1= Dedicated grenade button
    L1= Something other than V.A.T.S

    Section 2: The Menu
The Pip Boy is an annoying interface, just like in Fallout 4. I am proposing this franchise use a Borderlands inspired menu with a perk section, an inventory section, a map, a quest tab. They can even make this in the ugly Pip Boy green if they want. I understand there's some lore about the universe not having invented the transistor, but the Pip Boy still looks ugly.

    Section 3: The Story(ies)
The main story in Fallout 4 IMO was a steaming pile of horse **** I was not interested in finding "my son" for a second. While I have not completed the main story, I am intrigued by this scorch plague and the reports of flying beasts. I want to know what happens next, unlike Fallout 4 where I only completed story missions by accident. The side missions, so far, seem to have more personality than the Fallout 4 side missions. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.

    Section 4: The NPCs
There is a false narrative spreading that this game doesn't have NPCs. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Fallout 76 has some really interesting NPCS. So far my favorites are the drunk bartender from the Nukashine mission and Rose the robot Raider. IMO the NPCs in Fallout 76 are more expressive and interesting. I know people are mad there are no human NPCs, but to be honest none of the human NPCs from Fallout 4 has good lip synching. Until they fix that **** I am content with robot NPCs.

    Section 5: The survival mechanics
The hunger, thirst, decreased carry capacity somehow make this game more fun than Fallout 4. I can't describe why, but now all the consumables which were worthless in Fallout 4 become far more interesting in Fallout 76. Also these survival mechanics feel right for a world that's only 25 years after the apocalypse.

Section 6: The Perk Card system
I loath, hate, and despise the upgrade tree from Fallout 4. What a cluttered, uninteresting piece of **** The perk card system, combined with the now functional V.A.T.S system, means there is better presentation of upgrades and the agility tree is worth a damn! Well done Bethesda, although I am worried they will make perk packs purchasable with atoms, but so far this is not the case.

    Section 7: V.A.T.S
I hated V.A.T.S in Fallout 4. Was a clunky mess that slowed down combat in what should be a fast moving FPS experience. In Fallout 76 they have redesigned the system to be a simple aimbot. It's now functional, but uninspired. IMO Fallout 5 either needs to scrap the V.A.T.S system to focus on fast and fluid first person shooting, or they need a drastic redesign to make V.A.T.S work in a fast fluid FPS system. I'm imagining a Soldier 76 ultimate style V.A.T.S but that's just my opinion.

    Section 8: The bad
There are a lot of serious problems with this game that keep it from being scored higher in my book. The microtransactions this game expects for simple cosmetic are shameful. I paid for a full retail game, I want all the damn cosmetics you imported from Fallout 4. Having to scrap weapons to gain weapon upgrades is a confusing system. Why not just scrap the guns for parts, but be able to build better weapons after building a certain quantity and quality of other gun parts. I hope they redesign this system. The map, while being pretty, can be unhelpful at times. I would appreciate specific instructions, not vague mission goals. I would like to be able to see on my map the locations of safes after I discover them, but can't unlock them. This would help me come back for them and force me to explore the map to map their location instead of the location being given to me like Rage 2. The weapon wheel needs work. This is the clunkiest weapon wheel I have used to date. Too many of the necessary building structures are locked behind high atom prices.

This is my review, let me know what you think.

Definitely didn't expect this from Bethesda. The game has a few unique perks of it's own and what it's aiming to do is ambitious but it severely lacks care. The quality is passable and mediocre at best- the frame rates are in-consistent, the combat is alright, and the graphics are bland with lots of visual glitches, and the world can be only defined as quantity over quality.

Time and time and time again Bethesda has released buggy, low quality, shambling monstrosities called "video games", with Fallout 76 being the culmination of how wretched they can be. Deceptive marketing and other promotional products, a money-grubbing micro transaction store, newly introduced pay-to-win micro transactions, and multiple year old bugs from Fallout 4 being introduced in new patches?

Nothing about this game was finished, which would make sense, as Bethesda had their B-team on it. For such an ambitious project, only the best in the industry should've been around for it, not the shovelware-tier developers. Development could have continued into Q1 or Q2 of 2020, and I still have doubts that any level of polish would've made its way to 76.

Countless videos and essays and articles have been written, however, Joseph Andersons' pair of videos ((If you care to have THREE ENTIRE HOURS of bug reviews, plus his full format review)) for the issues with Fallout 76 itself, as well as Internet Historians' video covering everything surrounding 76 are excellent ways to recap everything wrong with modern Bethesda.

Illegal conduct in the means of marketing, illegal conduct in the means of negligence, illegal conduct in the means of customer deception, as well as inconsistent return policies, and this threadbare, duct-tape-and-bubble-gum excuse for a "video game" leave only one option. Bethesda is never to be trusted to produce a product of quality, instead, a train wreck, to point and laugh at out of morbid entertainment.

Giving this game a 0 because Bethesda ruined this and charged full price for a budget pos game. They reused assets from other games we've already bought and paid for so why bother charging us for this garbage. This should have been free to play and they should have released it in beta and fixed everything before they ever charged for anything. I have lost all respect for this company.

I think this game needed an offline mode with possible co-op (mainly singler player) and the online mode for multiplayer. I think though the CAMP build should've been something preset so that way players don't feel limited on what to build. The blueprints part to build is also odd since I don't remember having to do that for Fallout 4. Combine that with several other annoyances (clunky menus, forced thirst/hunger meters, low carry weight thresholds, difficulty obtaining good weapons/armor early on, etc.) and you have yourself a merely above-average game. MMO tropes that by todays standards are instantly outdated. Running on an outdated engine that while continuing to cough out black smoke has created the most colourful Fallout setting to date. The lack of non player characters creates the impression of a dull world, devoid of life and personality. The main quest line tasks the player with the same mission structure on an agonising repetitive loop. Go here, retrieve this, return, a point which is broken up with gunfights with foes both old and new. Renditions of Fallout favorites such as Ghouls and foes conjured from folk law of West Virginia itself are welcome. However one can struggle with Bethesdas' continuing lack of combat development, with times firing a rifle feels like a BB gun. One such gameplay addition carried over from previous titles is the V.A.T.S system, pausing instances of gameplay and allows the player to target individual body parts, compensating for Fallouts abysmal aiming mechanics. The new iteration of the V.A.T.S system however, built for multiplayer is a pointless inclusion, clunky, unresponsive and seems to have only been included because "Its a Fallout game". So called independent servers are laughable and continue to plague various players experiences with connection problems. Glitches have from launch disconnected players from the game, freezing gameplay and in more extreme instances erased game data.

Nauseating frame-rate, connection issues and under developed gameplay mechanics solidify why this title deserves nothing short than the full force of the atom.

It's not a Fallout RPG, it's an online grinding survival game. Yep its got the usual Bethesda random crashes and the non-pro PS4 struggles some times, but if you want to try to survive in the wasteland then the game is pretty good.

It does have missions with stories which are pretty well written for what they are. You need to keep in mind that this isn't a Fallout RPG theres no end goal other than your own survival. You get the feeling you are entering the world in the aftermath of humanity trying to survive and failing.

The lore doesn't really stack up there's a substantial Brotherhood of Steel presence which I think is pushing the boundaries a bit too much for my liking.

I quite like the new VATS system, feels more realistic than the old one which slows time. Along that line looking at your pipboy doesn't pause the game which takes some getting used to. You have to use the favourites menu or you've got no hope when theres a lot of enemies rushing you. It's a lot about preparing before you head out exploring and taking time to check your inventory and put weapons and health in the correct slots.

I don't like the weapon level caps on simple things like knifes and shotguns. A strength cap on the heavy weapons or intelligence on some of the energy weapons would have been far better. If you can load a magazine into a pipe pistol I'm sure you can do the same for the 10mm pistol. Also if you can hit someone with a machete you can easily stab them with a combat knife.

The S.P.E.C.I.A.L system seems fine for a survival game. Doesn't seem to allow you to become a one person army too quickly. In FO4 it was far too easy to become this indestructible being carving a path of destruction through the wasteland.

C.A.M.P is also functional, I'm not a big base builder in general, stick some benches, water purifiers, a bed and some turrets down and off you go.

Thirst and hunger mechanics are painful to begin with, get the perks that help food and water last longer it makes these mechanics much less of a pain to deal with.

Could it have been better, well yes of course, the game is way behind the competition graphically. NPC's as everyone has said would make the game feel more complete.

Building a camp and attracting other settlers to join up and help with camp tasks would have been great. Seeing if you can build yourself a thriving community is definitely a missed opportunity. Having trade stands which generate items which you could sell to other players for caps, assigning settlers to security to protect the camp, having to find/craft weapons and armour for them, etc. Are all things which could have added a lot of depth to the game. I think this is probably impossible on the non-pro PS4's with the way the game sometimes struggle when there are more than a few enemies rushing you.

I should also add I've not paid for or ever plan to pay real world money for cosmetic upgrades via the atoms system. I don't see the point of paying for cosmetic upgrades, I have no need to "stand-out" in game.

Worst game ever. Just one giant broken promise tbh, and the scandal after scandal following the company since release only reinforces the desperate cash grab that this game is. It doesn't even look nice. Bad gameplay, completely lazy story design, I honestly can't think of one thing they did right here. Gamers community don’t need this game... All Bethesda fans waiting for a new The Elder Scrolls, continuation of Fallout, but not this abominable try to earn easy money for Todd Howard. I hope it will be a good example for other developers.

This game about 4 months after launch is still a buggy mess and the only thing working still is the Atom Store ( the micro-transaction marketplace ) I am still constantly running into bugs, crashes and a whole manor of other issues.

The game itself has no redeeming features once you get over that 5 minute excitement of playing a Fallout game with friends the game is empty, boring and pointless name me one single quest that is fun in this game, not to mention the abysmal controls, its like the whole game suffers from input lag no doubt to the servers not being able to handle the already **** engine Fallout 76 runs on which brings me to my next point. Fans have finally had enough of Bethesda using a 12 year old engine with the same bugs present in Fallout 76 as were present in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, If Bethessda continue to use this engine for TES 6 and Starfield then they are finished, especially if they continue to implement paid mods and micro-transactions which Petey boy insists are mini DLCs when in fact they are paid mods.

My final point is I am also marking this game down due to the people who sold us this rubbish being quiet, I have not heard a peep from Mr Sweet Little Lies Todd Howard or Petey boy regarding Fallout 76 and this is upsetting as it is a huge middle finger to the fanbase that supported them for years and looked past that typical Bethesda charm ( and by charm I mean every single one of their titles using the creation engine or some form of it releasing as one big mess of bugs which the modding community fixes for them and if your on console dont expect a fix for those bugs as Bethesda will be too lazy to do it themselves.

I expect quality from Bethesda not this crap, therefore I award Fallout 76 with a well deserved 0/10 due to Bethesda's utter incompetence to not even get a simple Fallout 4 asset flip right.

Fallout 76 is a mediocre, bug-filled, over-priced mess, much like a 1-Star pizzaria with a very dubious certificate from the Health Inspector (the smiling gold stars and tape suggest it may be the owner's elementary school diploma). To be be perfectly blunt and concise, do not buy Fallout: 76 and steer very clear from Bethesda for a few years. If you get burned by them again, please help yourself to a Darwin award.

If you don't follow the game, I'm sure you're wondering what went wrong: was it the unplayable launch, packed with glitches and bugs from the Beta that they didn't do anything about? Perhaps you've heard of the very literal scam that Bethesda pulled with the canvas bags. The pathetic follow-up gesture by their incompetent PR teams offering some pocket-change of in-game currency? Even more impressively, customers silly enough to buy the $200 canvas bag bundle then had their personal information leaked, including home addresses. That should be enough reason to-

Oh dear, you want more? Very well. . .

There was the hilariously out-of-touch stream with Ninja, Justin Roiland and some random rapper filling every human on the planet's cringe quota for the next century. How about the gratuitous duplication of legendary/rare items that they can't stop? We also have the completely broken PVP system that the developers looked at each other and nodded, saying, "Yes, this is a good idea," in a completely unironic tone. There is also the constant issue of disconnections preventing you from being able to actually play the game, along with losing your camp that you built over and over. In closing-

Really? I have to keep going?

Yes, they're selling Pay-to-Win power-ups in the store now. (As of January 30th, bonus health). Yes, the game is recycled Fallout 4 assets and engine, with the same flaws and glitches. Yes, they sell slightly-altered armor skins for $20. Yes, Bethesda will completely destroy your character's skill build (which you pour countless hours into just to get) with random "balance" patches without offering anyway to respec. Yes, they are actually banning people people for speaking out against them, including closing their Bethesda account so that they cannot play any other Bethesda game that the victim owns. Finally, yes, they managed to correct some bugged content. . . but due to their gross negligence, brought back all of those same issues that they "fixed" in a calamitous patch. You may have originally believed that giving the game a 1/10 if too harsh. I hope this laundry list of issues proves otherwise.

I'm honestly not sure who to blame at this point, this whole enterprise has been a disaster, thoroughly dragging the Fallout series through the mud, perhaps never to shine brightly again. My working assumption is that those corporate heads grinded their greasy palms together, twirling their rat whiskers when they saw how successful those games like Day-Z and H1Z1 were. What better way to attempt to replicate that with Fallout-76? All they had to do was make a co-op game for the series- just a simple, honest, 2-player adventure through the apocalypse.

The real tragedy is that most people with common sense knew this game was going to be terrible at the reveal and yet the all-too-common faceless, mindless consumers that seem to always lack critical thinking still fell for it hook, line and sinker. . . a story too often told nowadays. Be the change- don't buy Bethesda.

Which in all are already intolerable for a full price game in 2018.

The game itself is . . . empty.
This is not an rpg as show the lack of npc or the (only) simple quest (go there, kill, loot, repat). You can found storie (trought note and hollodisk or terminal) but you will never be part of anything.
This is not an FPS, as bugthesda never understand how to make shooter or the ennemi IA that goes with it.
This is not a survival game as past the few first level you would have no difficulty regarding thirst or hunger.
This is not an open world PVP as the mechanics are all against pvp (no loot, duel had to be accepted, etc).
This is not a building game as the limitation won't allow you to build anything biger than a 3 stories house. and anyway you'r camp disaper when you leave server.

So what is it? It does have the game engine of FO4, it does have the colors of FO4, but it's empty. . . Nothing to do, nothing to see, no fun. Beteshda sould have remeber that FUN is part of the definition of GAME and SUCCES.

And i had to say it but the atom shop. . . buy usless emoticon, hat or pyjamas are overexpensiv (6$/€ for pyjamas. . . ), pass your way nothing to see.
At least it doesn't make microtransaction P2W or unavoidable. Which is actualy the only good point of this game.

The only good point is microtransaction. . . It say it all about how crappy this game is.

This is a world that is completely empty and dead, and not in the atmospheric way. Bafflingly, the promise of: "There are no NPC's in this game," was seen as a positive in some peoples' eyes, because it just made a world with interesting ideas and basic art assets one of the least Fun and most Boring games ever made.

There's simply nothing to engage you with - battles are either annoying and overlong hassles, or exploits of terrible AI, what very few interesting story bits that exist are separated by hours of joyless exploration, grinding takes way, way too long (thanks to a patch), the audio is sparse to the point where it sounds like an Alpha build before the sound design was performed and implemented, and visually this game is surprisingly ugly. This isn't because of the Ruined elements - every Fallout game before this, as well as other games involving Ruins, from Metro 2033 to Final Fantasy X, all look miles better than this. This only compounds the survival hassle that is a nice enough idea, but only adds needless busywork to what should be fun. Oh, and the Missions just suddenly appear as if the Starship Enterprise beamed down a to-do list for you.

This does not bring me pleasure as I've greatly enjoyed most Bethesda games, but those were great because the worlds were grand and interesting, as well as nice looking from both technological and artistic standpoints. But those were also because world-building was a strong factor, so even if you came across a character that was poorly written or poorly acted, you would still keep your level of immersion; it's the same reason why immersion was maintained despite graphical glitches as well. But here, there is literally nothing to distract you from such problems, as the problems, when they come up, are the ONLY things that you are presented with. There is no living, breathing world to think about to allow you to overlook these issues, nor anything fun to do that you can concentrate on either. Monster animations suddenly going odd were fine in Oblivion, for example, because you were engaged in the combat, but the combat here feels more like Metal Gear Survive than the Post-Morrowind games that Bethesda has made over the past decade.

The reason I don't just give this a 1 is really because this game feels like a legitimately decent game that was simply released in pre-Alpha. This isn't like Metal Gear Survive; there's actual legitimate value here that's simply hidden by a lack of functional design. I can't deny, Oblivion or Skyrim might've been boring as well if you took all of the NPCs out and removed all of the graphical fixes made in the last 6 months of development. But the world is pretty well designed, like I said the story elements that exist aren't bad, and the gameplay works from a basic blueprint; it just feels like they had to abandon a project about 40% of the way through, and then someone released it to the public with working servers.

But because of these problems, I don't think that this will be fixed. Like ME:Andromeda, the problem here isn't a large set of bugs, but the content itself being fundamentally either flawed, mis-designed or simply non-existent. This game doesn't require fixes, but rather a complete overhaul of the content within. I can ignore the bugs, and even the problems with release like paying $20 for a Santa in-game outfit (although that's pretty disgraceful), but this game is essentially a buggy, ugly and boring experience that has virtually nothing to offer of its own beyond constrictive gameplay and world almost completely free of content.

Within 9 days 76 was on sale at half price. A reflection of its actual value. Make no mistake, this is not an original game, I've put in a good 40+ hrs and it's just a poor mans FO4. The AI is actually worst than FO4, honestly, it's really, really bad, and alone this beautiful yet empty world feels boring.
With NPCs missing, the story is a fetch quest style Go To that only morons could possibly appreciate, logging in to a terminal to read and read then go to next place, pick up tape and listen and listen - it's all so hollow. Where are the characters... oh ...that's right "we are the NPCs" ...no, we're really not.
In 40+ hrs my encounters have mostly been people running away from me, people waving and trying to give me free stuff, or me shooting people and them logging off / jumping to a new server. There's such poor PVP mechanics, that I wonder why they added it at all - and it's your fault, the solo players that whined when 76 was announced that they didn't want to be bothered by other players - well - they made a game so poor, such bad mechanics that if after a month of logging in your still going, you are alone as everyone else is bored mindless.
Bethesda's desire to use such an old engine really shows when compared to other PS4 titles in 2018. The animations are 100% from FO4, the boss is from Skyrim, and they released this as a full price game.

Bugs - seriously - from enemies appearing in walls, items causing crashes, workstations causing crashes and crashes just crashing - this is a total mess. I'm on PS Pro and it's dogsh1t.

    What Bethesda could have done:

Released the game at £20 as 'early access'. Fixed bugs gradually. Added actual content. Not focused on a bizarre Atom store whereby you spend £20 for an emoji and santa hat. Released it with PVP or PVE servers for players. Let more people on a server. Given it a real story. Kept with lore from previous titles. Given it to another developer to make.

Overall it really as bad as people say. I thought at half price I'd try it after completing RDR2, but I still want my £30 back. I got 9-10 months out of Ark online, and expected to get at least 2-3 out of 76, but it is so boring, so so boring. I've 68 PSN friends and 1 other played 76 - we hooked up once and had a fun evening - but that's because we have fun in any game, not because of 76. There's players out there trying to collect all the blueprints, trying to get higher level legendries - WHY ? Will a better gun make others want to pvp? Will having a new table type make the base building any more fun? No... your grinding your time out on a crap experience. I'd recommend ARK or any online PVP or even ESO over this ... Christ Besthesda, how could you do this to the franchise and not even openly apologise for it?

You do get most of your missions from holograms or computers, but that is fine. The game world is great. The map is huge. I want to explore, but I am a level 10, I will wait a little while for that. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER! You can go at is solo. That's what I am doing. Please ignore all the low scores. Everyone knew exactly what they were getting into with this game, it was no secret. Nothing will ever beat New Vegas, this game isn't even close. If you liked Fallout 4 for the most part, you will like this game. If you are a Fallout fan in general, you should play this game JUST BECAUSE! Solid 7 so far.

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!! 15 Nov 2018 5 p.m.

Ok, so there i was just minding my own business and two idiots decide to follow me around forever all the while shooting me. You do take damage after every shot. I was under the impression, if they fire at you and you don't fire back, you only take that first bit of damage, but no, you will continue to lose health. It isn't much health, but still! I don't mind other players running around in the world, but Bethesda really should make an option where if you want to interact or not. If you don't, you should still see the people, but not interact with them.. That's what I think. When I am trying to complete a mission, being attacked by ghouls, that is enough, but no, you have to worry about other people attacking you. Its dumb...DUMB DUMB DUMB. Weren't we all supposed to be from the same vault rebuilding the world? Why would we kill each other? I will leave the score the same. I am still enjoying this game, but I hope Bethesda changes certain parts of the "online" experience.

    UPDATE!!!! 16 Nov 2018 1 p.m.

Back again with another update. I am really really trying to like this game. I keep telling myself that it is Fallout, I LOVE FALLOUT, but after a while, it doesn't feel like Fallout anymore. A major gripe that I have is using melee weapons. I get swarmed by level 1 ghouls, I am a level 15. I swing the golf club, the ghoul moves. It takes forever to set up again and swing again, the ghoul moves again while I am being attacked by 5, 6, 7 more ghouls. I know, I can use guns, but these are level 1 ghouls! The melee combat sucks. its worse than any other Fallout game. The most annoying part is when you are being swarmed and then the frame rate freezes, then it catches back up and you are no longer facing the way that you were and now the ghouls are behind you. Its annoying. And another thing, since when did the rad moles or mole rats, whatever they are become such a problem. HOLY SH*T! For issues like I have been running into, the score is being lowered from a 7 to a 6.

    UPDATE!!! 22 Nov 18

Ok, so my mind hasn't changed much regarding this game, but I have something new to gripe about. When you go to an area and there happens to be another real player there and this player is very much above your current level, all the enemies in that area will be around that players level. Top of the World, most enemies are not above level 10, I am currently level 20. I left the area and came back a bit later and there was a level 48 person there, all the enemies were level 45. This kind of takes the fun out of the game. Bethesda should never ever try online ever again. they should stick to what they do best, make memorable single player games! I am still enjoying the game for the most part and for what it is i guess, but this game actually makes me miss Fallout 4, and I didn't like that game that much.

    UPDATE: 26 Dec 2018

The game sucks, score lowered to a 3. I am pretty sure I don't need to give an explanation as to why my score lowered. Go to youtube and watch people talk about the game. Everything they say is absolutely true! Terrible. I am scared about Rage 2 and the next Fallout. I am scared about TES6!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very fun and super addictive gameplay. That being said, there are so many bugs that I am lead to believe this game was not finished properly before release and that is very disappointing. One major quest cannot be completed because you have to kill some guy and when you finally get there, the guy is already dead, this is a disgrace!
The crafting is very cool and there are some nice weapons + many places to explore on the map + colorful landscapes, but the graphis overall suck big time compared to other ps4 pro-enhanced titles.
I like this game a lot but I hope they fix the bugs because this game is sometimes unplayable, yes it's that bad. This game crashes my ps4 pro so I have to unplug the power cord and put it back in for my ps4 to work again, but I keep playing it because it's pretty damn good.

A classic Bethesda game, like Fallout 3/ New Vegas or Skyrim, should be single player only and never even attempt to go multiplayer unless they have a good formula and a really, really good reason to do so. With games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Spiderman out there at the exact same time, this game just gets demolished under a pile of garbage while the rest is praised to heaven, like it should be. If this game had to be described with one word it would be: Shame. Shame on Bethesda for putting this game out there, as a lowkey cashgrab that dares to call itself 'Fallout'. Expand

As consumers for Bethesda games we expect bugs on launch... but I got this a month after launch (cheap thankfully) and it's one of the buggiest games I've ever seen. There's no story, no NPCs to talk to and no sense of wonder as youre exploring the map. Buildings and places are just shamelessly reused from other fallout games and pasted.

It's just a mess and I wish I could sell this game but I'd feel guilty putting the pain of the game onto another living person. This game has broken my faith in Bethesda and I have lost my excitement for Elder scrolls 6 because of it.

Fallout 76 can be a very pretty game at times but it is ruined when you see a glitching scorched or textures that look very very bad. This game is very boring with the most uninspired bare bones quests that I have ever done. One event quest is literally just escorting a robot through a city filled with like ten gouls. This is not fun this not how you do quest especially fallout quests.
Fallout 76s world is huge. But a huge world is useless when there is nothing fun to do in it. The world comes off as very empty there are some places to scavenge and enemies to fight but it is still so barren.
The biggest crime 76 commits are the attom shop. It is broken with fake sales and way overpriced skins. I can deal with overpriced skin in games like fortnite but that game is free to play. 76 is a 60$ game. It just comes off a soo greedy. Truthfully I had some fun in 76 but it was very few and far between.

TONS of content, great storylines and characters, much better graphics than its main rival, WoW and on the whole, runs very smoothly, even with loads of other players on screen. With this game, I wasn't expecting "Fallout 3 with friends", but at the very least something on par with ESO, vaguely hoping Bethesda would've learnt from Obsidian's release. With its constant bugs, atrocious graphics, awful AI, complete lack of immersion and characters, and enemies spawning out of nowhere, it appears not. It seems that Bethesda have gotten too big for their boots, and if they think they can crap on their customers by thinking that this is good enough for us, then they need to learn a valuable lesson: it doesn't matter how big you are, a business is NOTHING without its customers. We've parted with our cash and been stung this time- we won't next time.
I can only hope that they have just enough humility to realise that they have really messed up, and hopefully they will sort this mess out and give us the game we deserve, because, as of now, they have not only seriously tarnished the Fallout brand, but also their own brand.

However, the reality is that Bethesda rushed a half-baked game that stripped the charm of Fallout series from the game, while failing to implement basic aspects of the MMO genre that have evolved over the last decade into standby's of the genre. Gone are the compelling Fallout stories, characters, quests and emotional ties to factions and companions. Gone is the humour and quirkiness, or surprising bits of lore that were embedded into the very fabric of the post-nuka landscape. Effectively, the Fallout world was reduced to another post-apocalytic wasteland with echoes of what drew people to Fallout over the past 15-years. Combine this with failing to implement any form of zoning mechanics, a total lack of instancing, terribly buggy re-spawn, woeful inventory mechanics, recurring and frequent bugs with C.A.M.P. spawning/placement, and totally non-intuitive levelling, and you have an MMO that learned NOTHING from WoW or other pioneers of the MMO space. From vanilla WoW through to Cataclysm, WoW always had a strong storyline and quest-givers that kept you involved - Bethesda could have taken this approach and not rushed the game to market and thereby would have kept the feel of the Fallout world, but alas, they chose not to.
Overall, after playing Fallout76 for a couple months, giving it more that a fare share of playtime, I can't rate this game more than a 2/10.

NO, I DIDNT THAT'S BECAUSE IT TAKES UP MOST OF THE GAME, then whenever you do get it and die you lose all your hard earned resources. don't worry though because you can claim plots to gather resources, but here's the catch, NOT ONLY DOES IT COST CAPS BUT HIGH-LEVEL PLAYERS TEND TO RAID IT AND ALL THE WORK YOU PUT INTO IT GOES TO THEM, plus most players hate building in the first place unlike me though. moving on we have multiplayer, THE WORST DECISION BETHESDA HAS EVER MADE. ok so multiplayer meant annoying players like earlier, it means when questing theirs normally another player one step ahead of you that spoils the plot, and lastly it means NO NPC'S, WHICH MEANS A HORRIBLE STORY AND THAT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST FACTORS THAT MAKES THIS A HORRIBLE GAME. also, the glitches so their everywhere because THE GAME USES A 16-YEAR-OLD ENGINE. also, microtransactions are really expensive one skin could cost almost 20$. plus Bethesda said they were a company about mods but they removed that aswell which is one of the most fun things about their previous games. and don't even get me started on disasters outside the game like how they leaked thousands of peoples personal info. As I sit reviewing this trash fire of a game, I can still hear another mic'd player lamenting the fact that I got loaded into his blast zone (no hard feelings, dude, just one of the many glitch-adjacent joys FO76 players get to look forward to) literally TWO MINUTES after I got disconnected from the server and had to Alt F4.

Where to even begin. From the constant server crashes to the fact that the Bethesda team only ever seems to apply patches to things no one actually gives a crap about ("WOW, this game lags so much it's like playing a slideshow but THANK GOD someone fixed the shadows left behind on the Nuka Cola bottles!"), the entire player experience just feels like a joke. A really, really bad joke.

The storyline is OK. The graphics are decent. The gameplay is really fun IF you can go 5 minutes without getting knocked from the server or randomly being teleported into a horde of enemies. I didn't have strong feelings about multiplayer one way or another, but it's not even possible to rate the game on those terms, because it just frankly doesn't work. This outdated engine is so clunky that if it was a car, you couldn't sell it to one of those businesses advertising that they "buy junk cars" for $5. It is really, really that bad.

Just such a waste of potential, such a waste of an incredible setting, cool lore, and standard but enjoyable mechanics. Oh, well. I guess if you like the idea of Fallout, but instead of a playable game, it's a slideshow, this one's great.

Not quite sure exactly where the enjoyment is meant to come from. It's not on steam because the developers/publishers didn't want the convenience of refunding to be available to consumers.

On top of this there have been so many game freezes and bugs that it borders on ridiculously frustrating!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76... despite its many HORRIBLE reviews, all in all it is not a bad game. Many people seem to be under the impression that this game has completely ruined the "Fallout" series. The game was promised to be very diverse and with Bethesda's supossed "new software" have 16x better graphics than "Fallout 4"... well that was a disapointment. The game does seem to have better graphics throughout many parts of it, but as I scoped deeper into it today I realize that the whole garphics thing is a lie. I looked directly at a rock and noticed the graphics were lower and/or at the same quality as a "Fallout 4" brick building. Now, I'm personally a HUGE graphics type of guy considering all the graphic enhancer add-ons i buy for my consoles to make 4k gaming even better than it is, but, I dont consider it a HUGE factor. Bethesda also promised a storyline that a player would follow through the WHOLE game until completion (for those who don't know, yes you can continue to play after completing the storyline). BUT, because the game is based directly with online interactions, there are no NPC's. SPOILER ALERT!!! The whole storyline is the player alone or in a group, following a series of audio journals from various dead people around the game. The storyline is honestly horrible but I still somewhat enjoy it. However, if palying in a group like the game is intended to be played, you never can really hear/understand what the people are even saying. Storylines really affect my reviews, if it was better, maybe this would have gotten a green from me. The final factor of this is the online interaction. Now, meeting some online people is pretty cool, espececially when they help you out with some higher level gear. But what I have come to notice is that the people you meet will either kill you, leave you be without a word, or help you out in some way. But they dont level oit the servers, you will have level 3's running around a town with people that are level 300, and there is no passive mode. The only time you are "passive" is when you are level 4 and below. Level 5 is when the palyer is opened up to the FULL game. I do quite enjoy this game, but it definitely has more potential. Expand

Like being able to swap around perk cards like paragon. Pvp is not really happening but i didn't buy it for that, I bought it to have fun with my friends and it has been worth every penny. 100+hours so far Expand

I have played every Fallout since the original by Black Isle and am soooo disappointed by 76. So much potential...so little delivered. Admittedly, great graphics, great ambient sounds but by far the weakest story ever. Basically, follow the leader with no real purpose. Fallout is and always should be a single player (lone wanderer...) Admittedly, great graphics, great ambient sounds but by far the weakest story ever. Basically, follow the leader with no real purpose. Fallout is and always should be a single player (lone wanderer...) Fallout MMO has been described as 'non-canon' and I have to admit I agree. In my opinion, the best games are always me vs the machine (the programmers.) Can I solve the mystery, can I find the water chip, what is the FEV and how can I stop it? All of these made for great games. Running around the wasteland holding hands and singing kum-bah-yah...not so much. Very disappointed. Hope Fallout V will return to wasteland where I can once again save the world with my trusty hound by my side. Sadly, even Fallout Shelter has a better premise. Expand

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
