I was totally wrong. Its a HUGE better with an excellent history a lot of different finals and also mega-realistic graphics that are like the **** real life. When you play with Kara and Alice it doesnt act like and normal NPC is like a real person the CPU is so good . And a lot of things in the history that when you play the game another time is completly different is spectacular. The difference between be peaceful or agressive. If you are a divergent or a robot with Connor. And the final is A M A Z I N G. You need to play this game , seriously. Expand

Considering that I am writing this review almost one year after the game's initial release, I hope that readers acknowledge that I have a great deal of affection and love for Detroit Become Human. The idea about androids developing free will and rising up against humanity for me is awesome. With Kara and Connor (my favourite) storylines, you get to explore moral concepts like what does it mean to be a living being or can an android build real relationships with humans. The game grants you the flexibility to make your own moral choices about these issues which I very much appreciated.

    What I hate about this game is everything that follows;
The game never addresses the legitimate concerns of Androids developing free will and attacking their creators. In almost every encounter with a deviant, you are told how they were 'forced' to murder someone with their justification ranging from acceptable to **** ridiculous. (In my first initial play-through, my Markus ends up killing a bunch of people yet somehow I still managed to have an indifferent public opinion on Androids). This gets even worse when characters you begin to care about stop acting reasonable just so that the plot can progress. (I kill the cops in my play-through with Markus and Hank still wants to stop Connor from killing him because he "was wrong about deviants"). Androids are smarter than humans, they are more powerful, more efficient, etc. These concerns never get addressed in any storyline and this drives me insane. Also, sometimes the games response to my actions do not make sense. There is one point in the story where you are Connor and you're hunting down two deviant strippers. The couple is trying to escape (and also arguably trying to kill you and Hank). The moment you gain the upper hand and take the option to kill them, you get chastised for it by Hank as if they weren't trying to drive a screwdriver into your head. There are choices in this game that are very much situational and if you step out of line from a clear consistent pattern of behaviour when making decisions, your story and the characters in them will stop making sense.

Finally, Markus's story is just poorly written. His reason for becoming deviant is terrible (hey, this guy keeps pushing, thats not okay...rebel against humans, slavery is bad!) And when he arrives at the deviant hideout, he automatically becomes their leader. I guess maybe because he just looks like your typical protagonist. You can murder a large number of humans in his storyline and still have people love you so long as if you continue to make the pacifist decisions in regards to everything else.

So, in the end I enjoyed Detroit Become Human. There are gaps of logical with everyone's storyline, (Kara the least, Markus the most) but all are still serviceable and can keep you entertained. I wish this game offered more in terms of quality in story writing but what you get is good enough to get you through until the end.

The way this game was developed, with three stories intertwined together to form a comprehensive narrative, is remarkable. The story in itself is nothing new, but your interaction with it makes it epic!
I played the entire game a second time and make some different choices. That is when something amazing happened: the story changed radically! Entire scenes and narratives were gone and new ones took shape! I felt like I was playing a different game. I could not believe what I was experiencing!
Granted, the theme of the game and its type of gameplay is my cup-of-tea, so I was predisposed to like it, but it also means I expected a lot from it. However, what I got was beyond my wildest expectations! I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you like story-driven games where every decisions are meaningful, you’ve got to play Detroit!

Şöyle söyleyeyim; severek oynadığım, oynamasam bile Call of Duty gibi her sene çıktığında alıp kütüphanemde tuttuğum oyunların o seneki oyunu fütüristik olduğunda o oyunu almam mümkün olamıyor*. Bunlardan ilki 2001: A Space Odyssey bu konuya girmeyeceğim, ikincisi ise Back to the Future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So from the get go I can say that this game looks absolutely phenomenal. The graphics look beautiful, the lighting is excellent and the particle effects like rain looks really excellent. Furthermore, the characters, for the most part are excellent. Connor was extremely interesting as a character who showed some human development while also being excellent for comedic relief with his back and forths between himself and Hank.

The downsides though do stick out. The most annoying of which is the lack of evolution in gameplay. This still feels like Heavy Rain with just a robot theme, the gameplay has not changed or adapted since then. What has annoyed me about it the most though is the fact that every small goddamn action requires a button movement... My character is not mentally challenged they don't need to be told to open a door! The games themes are also a bit of a hit and miss for me because while it presents some interesting ideas such as slavery, racism and persecution, it presents them in such a blunt way that it almost feels like a parody. This goes from scenes such as the androids standing at the back of the bus (all they would have needed was a Rosa Parks lookalike android to just make it a little more clear lol) to scenes where the androids are sent to camps to be destroyed... I'm not making this up it really is that on the nose about this! This is also best presented by the character Markus who really just feels like they come across as generic freedom fighter. He doesn't really feel like he has any other personality and the characters around him don't really have enough personality to really make Markus feel unique, so he just ends up feeling like a generic freedom fighter with a message. While this may sound like a turn off, honestly I found the themes quite funny just because of how much Cage wanted to make sure it was ABUNDANTLY clear that this game is about slavery, racism and persecution that I found myself laughing at how blunt the scenes were trying to be in conveying this message.

Overall, the game is a technical marvel, it is a pretty excellent game in its genre and its quite clear that this is that kind of game you really should try because a David Cage game is its own experience that is worth at least trying. However, it does always feel that with David Cage games the biggest criticism is that they are not games you need to play but games that you can watch and this is the same way I feel about Detroit. In the end, I ask myself; "could I not have just watched someone else play this game?" and my answer to that is always yes, I could have seen someone else play this game. It feels like David Cage would rather have been directing movies and this becomes abundantly clear in the atrocious camera that is locked in place (this has been remedied somewhat but is still terrible), barebones gameplay (if you can call moving around and interacting with objects while pushing buttons for responses gameplay) and very high tech cutting edge graphics to make the characters feel as human as possible. I guess in the end that's the way this game feels, not much different from heavy rain with robots but themes that are really blunt. It is enjoyable if you like this kind of game and enjoy the story with the way it takes you.

For me personally this game does not really feel like it has developed enough to be considered an evolution of Cage's gaming concept and it just feels like the same kind of game I would have played in 2010 (Heavy Rains release date).

Detroit: Become Human is a very interesting and emotional game. Reason why I think so is because I think in many ways this is going to be a part of our future with androids and the likes. Having played all of the games Quantic Dream have released in the past I knew perfectly well what to expect in terms of gameplay and the twist and turns their stories can have. I have to say on Detroit: Become Human they have reached a new milestone in storytelling and with how many different paths you can take with the different characters you play. It’s astonishing, gives you great replay value and you will want to go back and reply this game again as there will always be a “what if I did this instead?” scenario going on in your mind. Good thing there is chapter select where you take your last saved choices from the flowchart done before with you, meaning you can continue the game half-way in and redo your choices where you please.

There is a lot of choices that will make you think more than once due to the morality and ethnicity, it isn’t easy choices and the fact some of them have big consequences later on makes it very emotional. Hell sometimes you even look at yourself and think “damn is this the kind of person I would be in this scenario?”. When a game does that I think it has left a big impact, which Detroit: Become Human has as it was intended too. It’s beautiful, got a story that will have you on the hook and superb voice acting. Gameplay wise games of this nature are never something you will remember but these games were always made with the storytelling in mind.

All in all I think this is the best game from Quantic Dream yet. Better visuals, audio, fine-tuned gameplay and an even more gripping story than their old games (which were good too mind you). For fans of these kind of games this is a must play and if you haven’t played any of Quantic Dream (or Telltale Games) games before this would be a perfect place to start.

    Pros

The flowchart makes it easy for you to know where you want to backtrack.
    Really interesting story.

    Cons

The gameplay is always a bit boring in these type of games.
Sometimes the choices you could make weren’t really clear (as in you choose something you thought meant doing something else).

It touches important topics about humanity and our future that are much deeper than it can be seen on the surface as "game about androids". Long essay could be easily written just about the story and important issues that it contains so I skip this part. All I can say is that it's very emotional story that touched me deeply. Not often I feel so engaged in the events and fate of protagonist because not many games can develop great story. I played it on 'experienced' level even if I'm new to PS4 controller and I need more time that game allowed me to tap right button but this way it was more challenging and more emotional. Of course, I failed almost completely. Another plus for a game because failing is winning here: you can learn a lesson and try again to success by trying new pathways - game is not boring and allow for many game-plays where you can see events previously not discovered.
Music is awesome. Three composers matched to character of protagonists plus bonus tracks. It's so nice to hear artists from Detroit like father of Techno Juan Atkins.
My personal favorite is Kara, her story and soundtrack. I felt in my hands is life of real person not character in the game. Other two stories and characters are inferior. No not at all. All of them are equally great. It's just personal preference to like one character above another.
Graphics is also really good - nothing that I could complain about, it keeps today's highest standards. Face expressions are great. They doesn't break 4th wall - another achievement.
Main menu android assistant is also great idea. I'll miss her :)
It's easy for me to give highest score because it seems that authors of the game share the same view about the world and our civilization/society as me so I felt at home.
I hope that more games will have such engaging stories and rich characters and I hope that Quantic Dream will bring new awesome game soon.

Many people like to rag on Quantic Dream and David Cage because "walking sim" but there is enjoyment in these titles. They use the video-game medium to tell interactive stories that wouldn't be possible on TV or film and that's something worth applauding.

The story is decent enough. Some of the writing is overly melodramatic and occasionally trite, but there's a solid theme behind it.

The story is decent enough. Some of the writing is overly melodramatic and occasionally trite, but there's a solid theme behind it. The ethical questions arising from artificial life is a fertile ground for books and films and this story treads mostly the same ground. But that's not a complaint - it's a good theme to cover and David Cage does it pretty well.

Graphics are superb. Amongst the best in this generation. The story depends heavily on your emotional investment in the characters, so it helps that the mo-cap and voice actors are excellent.

What little gameplay this has is either QTE or click-and-point nonsense. It isn't difficult but it interrupts the pace and adds nothing to the story.

f you treat this like a 20+ hour mini-series you will enjoy it immensely. This story is worth at least one play through (maybe two).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Detroit: Become Human is an interactive adventure game that revolves around three androids. The androids were built to help with everyday life for humans. Some androids develop emotions and decide to rebel against their programming. These androids are known as deviants. The three androids the story revolves around are Kara, Connor, and Markus. Kara, who escapes her owner in order to protect a little girl and explore her newfound deviancy, Connor, who was created to hunt down deviants, and Markus, who once becoming a deviant, decides that his people need to be freed from servitude to the humans. During the game your choices you make for each of the androids will have lasting effects on the remainder of the game. You could end the game with one or all three dead or you could end the game with all or one of them alive. The choice will be yours to make.

The gameplay has significantly improved in this title compared to their previous entries. In this game you will performing QTEs and sometimes free running. Depending on the difficulty you chose at the beginning you will either be using the face buttons most of the time or you will be having a combination of face buttons, analog stick movements, and shoulder buttons. You will press L2 in order to highlight the surrounding areas and see what your current objective is. While doing this, any item of interest will be marked with a yellow marker above it. You don’t necessarily have to go to every yellow marker, as not each one is dependent on the progress of the game. After each level you will see a flowchart that shows the choices you made and will show you alternate paths that scene could have taken. This will allow for tons of replay value and coming up with multiple endings. This format is a significant improvement over their most recent entries Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain. During the game you will switch control of each of the three main androids depending on your choices. This will happen after you reach the end of the scenario played and see your flowchart choices. Your next scenario could be with the same android or one of the other two. Most generally you will control a different android after each scenario. Depending on your choices, there could be scenes later that feature all three androids in the same scenario. If this happens there will moments in that scenario where you will toggle back and forth on which android you are in control of. The mechanic for this feels flawless and smooth. It is done in such a way that never really breaks immersion and allows for a focused run through the entire game.

As most anyone can clearly see the graphics are out of this world. With some amazing games coming out as of late that have some pretty real like graphics, Detroit doubles that every chance it can get. Of course these interactive adventure games are very linear and that allows the developer to really push the graphics to another level. The amount of detail in each character and setting can really make you question if you are playing an actual movie or if this is really just a game. It’s unreal at the level of detail Quantic Dream was able to produce on such a grand scale. Especially knowing the power limitations of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, it truly is amazing to see just what they were able to pull off. This is truly the most remarkable game to date graphics wise. There is no comparison here, Detroit has set the bar in terms of graphic fidelity from the interactive main menu all the way through to the very end of the game.

From the music playing within the game to the sounds of all the surrounding areas, Quantic Dream really nailed the atmosphere of a bustling city to one that is under siege. The sounds throughout the game fit to each scenario perfectly. They add to the immersion within the game and really add to the feeling that you are playing a movie not a game. The soundtrack they chose fit each character the songs were related to immensely. From the classical to the hard rock it definitely made you feel that you were right there in the scene and with the characters themselves.

In short, this game is remarkable in every way. It has its downfalls as well but they are easily overlooked for the sheer enjoyment that Detroit: Become Human is. Not to mention, knowing just how many times you can play through this game and come up with something different and equally enjoyable. This game has it all. If you are any type of fan of the interactive genre then this game is definitely for you. Not sure this game will sway newcomers to the genre but will definitely grab anyone that is remotely interested in it. Another must-have title in a long line of must have titles PlayStation has delivered this gen.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would give this a 10 if it weren't for the minor plot holes or poor character development in some points through out the game presented some times throughout the game and a couple of unnecessary things, but otherwise the game is the pinnacle performance of David Cage and Quantic Dream. First, the near future setting about AI being an everyday thing is logical and something that could actually happen in real life. And the point of view of AI awakening is interesting compared to other movies, games with the same situation. Then, let's talk about how well the game handles each choice of dialogue and action you make throughout the game. Each choice you make affects the path that lies ahead of you whether it's shooting or sparing an enemy, to be aggressive or compassionate, or choosing the relationship you'll develop with companions and allies, each option affects something present or something yet to come. The characters each have their own tone and unique storylines that distinguish each other significantly, and the game at one point joins them together perfectly. The story overall is very well handled and engaging to be merged with the many, many possible outcomes. The flowchart shows the path chosen in a certain chapter and the paths you could've done, adding loads of replay value and guaranteeing you going back to look at at least a few other alternative paths.

Detroit has an overall very good story, great main characters (not to mention the perfect acting), and beautiful soundtrack. I really enjoyed the game and I grew close to the main and side characters. The game is emotional, engaging and fun to play, making it my 2nd favorite 2018 game behind God of War (not far behind). Beautiful work

The game greatly explores many themes of humanity and the complexity of the question 'what does it mean to be alive?' is always challenged through the juxtaposition between androids and humans. The plot is highly engaging with numerous different outcomes depending on your choices throughout the game, and this fact makes the game extremely unique in the current gaming industry. While the characters and plot are powerful, the game does have some flaws that it should improve on. For example, movements within the game feel slightly 'clunky' and not smooth. Camera angles and rotations often need frequent adjustments of the R2 'scan environment' feature in order to see more of the environment around you. Textures on inanimate objects are often blurry and not sharp (could be a stylistic choice), and the aggressive blurring of scenes in the game detracts the experience somewhat. However, these are technical issues that would not greatly impact anyone's enjoyment of this game. The plot, characters, world designs and relationship mechanics are the main strengths of this game of which it has implemented exceptionally well. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who would enjoy a narrative focused game that explores greatly the complexity of humanity. Overall, an exceptional game that I would give a personal rating of 8/10. Expand

Story and Writing is top-notch in the game and makes us care for the characters we play, especially Kara and her relationship with Alice. The Crossroad and final chapter where all characters story intersects is absolutely thrilling.

Its not a type of game where the choices just changes the path but has pre-written ending. Each choice matters and I could almost see the 3 characters have atleast 10 major endings to their story and considering who all live/die along with us adds to to even more probabilities. The good thing is you can go back restart the checkpoints immediately if you regret the outcome of any decision. But there is also a nice way to prevent you from changing the decisions often, some effects in the game is based on decision made very early in the game which cannot be changed now. If you want, you have to do it all over again.

The game's greatest feature is also its great weakness. With multiple possible story branches and endings, a gamer can never fully see all the outcomes unless you replay it N number of times. I managed to check out some videos in youtube for some alternate paths I didn't take and was amazed that some of the endings were completely different. Loved the game even more after watching those.

Fantastic work by Quantic dream for giving us an intense game !!!

A new level in the genre of interactive cinema. Makes you get used to the role of the main characters and do not simple life decisions. Here it is impossible to describe the game, it is necessary to survive. Being a brutal man, at the end of the game let a tear. Definitely advise!

The characters are well developed and I cared about all of the main ones, the Conner/Anderson story was particularly good. The graphics are out of this world - one of the best I've played on this front - and the music is superb and adds a lot to the experience. It is very much a narrative game but there was enough interaction and choices for me to make it feel like I was playing a major role rather than mostly just watching a story unfold. There are many reviews attacking the story, saying that it was a rip off of a movie, but really the themes are pretty universal and for me what came to mind was the fight against slavery, or the Holocaust. The story was satisfying enough and clearly had enough different branches and outcomes that I will definitely be playing it again. The only reason it didn't have a 10 from me is because I found myself fighting with the game mechanics in some sections. There's a particular mechanic where the character does a mental dry run of different possible actions in a situation that needs to be negotiated that I found quite frustrating and ended up resorting to watching a YouTube walkthrough to see how to get through that part, which I hate doing. That happened a couple of times. To be fair, I'm not the best gamer, but still it impacted my immersion in the story, and it happened again very near the end of the game when I'd got a much better handle on the mechanics. Also - a bit like Fallout 4 - it can sometimes be tricky to make a major choice based on four one word response options. Several times what the character actually said was not what I was expecting from the choice I made and it could have major repercussions - and not of the good kind. These are relatively minor points though, and overall I really enjoyed every moment of this game and would definitely recommend it. If you have liked any other games of this type you will definitely enjoy this one. Out of David Cage's previous offerings this is way ahead in terms of story, character development and execution and it stands up well against the likes of The Walking Dead and Until Dawn. This bodes well for more games in this genre from David Cage & the QD team. Expand

There are no words that anyone could utter that would adequately convey this masterpiece.
Nonetheless, I will try to write this review, because I feel compelled to give the positive feedback that this game deserves, having just come out of what feels like another life (just completed the game).
I am lucky enough to own a 4K HDR TV and a PS4 Pro, and thus enjoyed the life-like graphics that this game offers, along with the jaw-dropping visuals portraying near-future technological advances.
The top-notch acting for very distinct and unique characters maintains this sense of realism, along with a genius script that branches and weaves narratives so cleverly as to create an illusion that I am crafting the story as I play.
And it is this aspect that I wish for this review to emphasise, because it is my hope that many more games of this genre will follow.
Why? Because even though player actions are almost entirely composed of Quick-Time Events, this game is a prime example of how, when done right, a depth of experience can be achieved that is far beyond the similarly ambitious experiences of big-name games in other genres. Quake 4, Skyrim, GTA V, Fallout 4, Horizon Zero Dawn are examples of such games - that I consider to have fantastic narratives/storyline, but a comparison to this game pales them into insignificance.
It may not be fair to compare them, since the genres are so different. It is true that games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 do offer non-linear directions / alternative story paths, but without the movie-like aspect, simply cannot achieve the same heights of emotion / engagement.
The story experience is provided like patches of cloth, with player choices and reactive engagement like the needle of a seamstress, intricately sewing them into something that may not be identifiable until most of the seams are stitched but could be a T-shirt, chinos, or even a balaclava.
The point is, this game sets a new bar for this genre - I can't even comprehend the level of complexity and expertise required to produce such a smooth flowing, "seamless" (tee hee) story that branches as often, and as dramatically as this one.

And that is where I just wish to say something about some of the negative reviews here.
I am not one to insult people, much. But I do find it astounding that people can expose their intellect (or lack thereof) publicly like this.
The negative reviews mostly bleat the same thing - that the game is too much like a movie and does not have enough of the elements that games of other genres do.
The only thing this reveals (at least to me) is that the reviewer is not fit to be a reviewer (and consequently blocked so as not to distract me when picking through future reviews). I get that some people will buy games almost blind, in a sort of Russian roulette style, and perhaps this is because they have a lot of money, who knows.
What I do know, is that sort of person does not belong in the review columns.
I do not want to hear someone crying about a game in a genre they don't enjoy - that is a waste of my time. Much like it would be for someone to read a review that I might write for a typical Indie game - except that would never happen because I would not be so stupid as to play one and then proceed to write a review about it.
And I am not implying that people who play Indie games are stupid - not at all, just that my mind baffles at how someone can play a game without sufficient foreknowledge, so as to discover that they don't like it (which in itself is fine), and then write a review about the fact that they don't like it.
How is a person in this position going to write something even remotely worthy?
How could I possibly provide valuable insight about, for example, "Papers, Please" with such little experience of a type of game that I frankly do not enjoy?

And so I will finish with this - the game IS much like a movie, but a beautifully scripted one.
It will ask some very real questions about technology of the near-future (if you haven't already, check out "Sophia" who received citizenship in Saudi Arabia), and then go beyond, providing an intellectual depth appreciable only by enquiring minds, and an emotional experience that simply cannot be rivalled by games of other genres, and movies can only come close to.

TL;DR: Clunky but visually beautiful Choose-Your-Own-Adventure rehash of the old 'Alien Nation' film can be a somewhat refreshing change of pace .

Thematically and plot-wise, Detroit: Become Human is a little 'Blade Runner' and a lot of 'Alien Nation': replace the latter's alien "newcomers" with androids, and you've got essentially the same story. Unfortunately said story suffers from some of the same weaknesses that 1988 film did (check out Roger Ebert's review for some ideas): some intriguing ideas, but it's essentially still just a police procedural.

Of course, both this game and 'Nation' (as well as the other countless works they both crib from) are parables for the minority and immigration issues that trouble not just the US today but the entire world since the beginning of civilization, as well as other android-y themes that are now commonplace: androids are inferior and the're stealing our jobs; no, they deserve to be treated as equals; they have the same potential for creativity and emotion as the humans, if not moreso; what does it even mean to be human? and so forth.

Visuals are top-notch. Graphics represent the current state of the art in photo-realistic realtime rendering; no complaints here. Unfortunately the excellent visual presentation only makes the game's other flaws stand out that much more. On the gameplay mechanic side, these include clunky character movement and a finicky camera system. The hunt, peck, and line-up-the-icons-for-the-clues mechanic feels routine and minigame-y and can break the immersion of the narrative.

More glaring, however, are the game's story elements, which are the essence of 'Detroit.' Characters, both human and android, are all one-dimensional Hollywood caricatures and stereotypes; it's either love the androids or smash them to pieces, with few shades of grey in between. Given the ambitious scope of this game, the androids deserve deeper introspection: should they be treated as equals, or are they appliances and need to be controlled, and where is the middle ground? Instead, we get cliches like jealous sons and abusive druggie dads; danger situations feel contrived and some plot holes border on the absurd. Primarily, producing a mass-market android without multiple fail-safes to shut it off before it starts murdering you and your loved ones - regardless of any "glitch" that overrides their original programming - is negligence tantamount to selling a smart car without safety belts or airbags; for a game with Detroit in the title, you get the feeling a lot of somebodies should know better.

Further, the game's main conceit of actually "being" an android - primarily the choices you make as one, and the consequences those hold - kind of falls flat at times. You're usually presented with a few choices at any given point, but they're often so vague and detached from what your android actually does that you feel more like a voice in its head giving suggestions than actually becoming one with it. And no matter what choice you make, there's always this "all roads lead to Rome" vibe to it; sometimes you don't even have a real choice, it's just "push the button to proceed."

But much of this is just nit-picking. While maybe as a Hollywood film it would feel like yet another hackneyed "what is human" story, for a video game it's an admirable effort, and it's definitely got the triple-A Hollywood-level visuals to boot. Just don't expect anything too profound, and you can have a fun time with it. Oh, and don't give the androids any sour milk.

Two-to-three out of four-to-five stars, depending on your mood. Worth a look if the idea sparks your interest.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
