Best graphics ever. Second to none. Period. Great music and acting (dubbed in several languages to boot). Great gameplay. With hundreds of possibilities. Now, if your idea of gameplay is to shoot enemies this is not a game for you. If you like to choose different options to build a story, then you will love it. Game lenght.

One point for improvement. They should allow you to skip scenes once you finished there game three first time.

The fact it shows you all the options on a tree, is a great bit of transparency, to prove that there are really lots of paths through the story.

You know, I've unfortunately had to train myself to not get extremely excited for Quantic Dream's games these days. Sure, "Heavy Rain" is still a game I absolutely adored, flaws and all, and I still call it a "flawed masterpiece," one of the few games where I can look past the problems and still absolutely love it, but unfortunately, Quantic Dream followed up their "flawed masterpiece" with "Beyond: Two Souls," a game that was no masterpiece, but it was certainly flawed. And I had my skepticisms going into "Detroit: Become Human." Sure, the story looked more focused, but the gameplay looked very similar to the company's previous titles, so this game's success rested solely with the story. Would "Detroit" be able to win me over in a way that "Beyond" was unable to? Well, fortunately, yes!
"Detroit: Become Human," as it should be obvious, looks visually brilliant. Quantic Dream's first PS4 adventure is gorgeously designed, and it's a game that actually makes uncanny valley look good. The gameplay, while similar in ways to their previous titles, is more streamlined and easy-to-follow, and I'd even argue that the game sets a new gold standard for choice-based gameplay. This is shown in the flowchart, which shows you exactly how many options there are in the game, and while some have said it ruins the pace for them, I didn't mind it, and I found that, with it showing you how many paths you can take, the game beg for replays. On top of that, I find the narrative in this game to be the best of any of the Quantic Dream games. Maybe it's because I'm judging on my first play, but I feel like there weren't as many gapingly obvious plot holes here, and luckily the story says focused on one unified idea: androids in Detroit, all hoping for survival in a world where they are constantly discriminated against. And while some have criticized the somewhat heavy-handed approach it takes to historical themes, I personally found a lot of the subtle social commentary and allegories to be quite fascinating. Beyond that, the characters are compelling and unforgettable, and they're led by incredible performances, with standouts being the trio of Jesse Williams, Valorie Curry, and Bryan Dechart.
There are a few minor flaws that do stop the game from being a 10 out of 10 from me. For one, the controls can be a bit difficult at times. The Quick-Time Events are fine, but sometimes movement can be a bit awkward, and it can be nerve-wracking when movement is integral to a character's survival. On top of that, as I said earlier, the game does follow a style of gameplay very similar to "Heavy Rain" and "Beyond: Two Souls" (with the addition of some neat scanning and analyzation aspects here and there). Now, while I personally don't mind that, I do know that their style of gameplay (the "interactive drama," if you will) is VERY polarizing, so I do feel like, if you haven't been into their style of gameplay before, this may not change your mind (unless, of course, the story fascinates you).
Even so, flaws aside, "Detroit: Become Human" is an excellent title that fully re-establishes Quantic Dream as a company to watch for. It's nice to see them deliver a really great game on the PlayStation 4, and even if the wait for the game was long (QD first announced they were making a PS4 game back in 2013), the wait was worth it. It's bound to be polarizing, much like everything else the company makes, but I think it's a wonderful game that's definitely well-worth trying for yourself.
Final rating: 9 out of 10 "Awesome"

Was it a good choice? Definitely. I only wish I could wipe every memory of this game from my brain and experience it again. After playing previous games from Quantic Dream I can fairly say that this game is much superior compared to their previous titles - a real milestone. Both Heavy Rain and Beyond had some problems with plot holes or other minor issues. In case of this game everything feels very polished and decent. Graphics and motion capture are state-of-the-art. I am not able to count how many times this game made my heart beat so fast. Not to mention producing a lot of emotions during gameplay. Music, acting and plot are also a great delight to eyes and ears. It's scary to think that this may indeed be the consequence of technology becoming more and more intelligent as each year goes on. Detroit is very much a video game and while no it is not the type of game you see every day that does not make it bad just... different. Detroit is a game created by the aggressively French David Cage and like all his other games if you are expecting fast paced action or a 40-hour story then you done F-ed up. Cage's games are made so that the player immerses themselves in the world and tries not to break immersion even for mundane task. His previous works include Heavy Rain (Great game with issues) and Beyond Two Souls (terrible game with issues). Detroit is his latest work and is the most technically improved game yet.

    1. Graphics - Starting with the games biggest strong point is its graphics. Everything is stunning from the facial animations to the cityscapes to the thread count on the characters jackets. Things look as close to photo realistic in this game as they could be. My wife not knowing I was playing a game walked by during a cutscene and thought i was watching an episode of greys anatomy cause of Jesse Williams. Visuals cant be beat.

    2. Story. The story is good but not great. This is a good setting and premise but there are alot a political boxes checked off that break immersion because you are slapped in the face by slavery allegories or "hands up dont shoot" references. This game was definitely written for the USA political climate of 2018. I dont know if it will age well but I can say as i was playing the game I enjoyed it. If you try to think to hard about all the real world politics involved THAT is what will make you enjoy the game less. If you sit down and enjoy the story for what it is with all the chases, heist, investigations, and daring escapes then you will have a good time. Remember its a game; have fun.

Main characters are the games strong suits. I loved Kara and her maternal instincts, Marcus was alittle stiff but I attribute that more to Jesse Williams than to the writing (Sorry Jesse). My favorite character was Brian Decharts Connor. He and Clancy Brown made an awesome duo.

    3. Mechanics. The mechanics were not that of an average video game. This is not an action game so I wish people would stop criticizing it for not being. What it is and an amalgam for and old point and click adventure and quick time events mixed with story driven choose your own adventure dialogue. In other words its very David Cage. The mechanics were alot smoother than in his previous games and while I do wish the characters could sprint sometimes when going from point A to B i am not complaining because the whole game has been carefully crafted for presentation.

Conclusion: 10/10 when I appreciate it for what it is. Must Buy

PS: After every chapter log out to the main menu to interact with Chloe. It is a big part of the experience that you can miss if you are not careful.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Detroit: Become Human is one of the games that have it all (sorry for my grammar): very detailed graphics, unique storyline, and great voice acting. I give it a perfect 10 because of the outcome of the effort exerted in this game. One of the reason why I think it has a unique storyline is because of the worst endings like Connor being replaced by RK900, Kara's and Alice's death in the android camp, and Markus being killed in the midst of revolution which reflects the reality.

I'm so shocked that by reading some reviews, there are negative comments about this game. I mean, how do you hate this game? It makes you decide, it's intense, and it have parkour. It's an all-in-one game plus the drama. Everything that I want in a game is in this game. Plus the fact that it's a Sci-Fi, just makes me love it more.

Every "bad" or "mixed" Detroit: Become Human review is either one of these two things: Personal agenda against David Cage, or the criticism for a lack of "gameplay". For real - go look them up. Neither of those reasons are justified. If Detroit was fairly reviewed, it would easily be sitting on an 85-90, if not higher.

This is an interactive movie experience in style of previous Quantic Dream games, and it's their best work yet, with a fantastic and moving story and pretty solid writing. There hasn't been a game in history that has so many different variations and outcomes based on your choices. You can have 10 people play the game at the same time, and each of them would get a different ending and overall outcome. Best part is, each of these outcomes and variations is equally well-made and none of them are shoe-horned into the story just for the sake of consequence.

I am absolutely blown away by this game and I loved every second of it, and trust me, you're gonna have a great time with it too, even if you're not typically a fan of sci-fi or robots.

From a technical standpoint the game equally delivers. Sound, voice acting, animations, the lightning and the attention to detail are all absolutely stunning. Especially the animations.

Detroit: Become Human is a serious contender for 2018's Game of the Year, and is so far my personal pick. Games like God of War are masterpieces in their own, but Detroit: BH aims to accomplish something different and special and it completely nails it.

Your choices can be the difference between life and death, failing and succeeding, even the ones that, at the time, have seemingly no significance. You may choose to go one way instead of the other and end up regretting it severely later down the line, but no matter what choices you make, the game manages to stay enjoyable throughout. If you don't like a decision you made, you can stick with it... or you can go back and re-do it completely to give you the outcome you desire.

I have played through Detroit and watched two streamers play through it, all resulting with different outcomes and each three of those outcomes has left me absolutely astonished or heart-broken.

The music, which has three different composers for the three main characters, is absolutely phenomenal, matching not only the individual situation, but the characters and their personalities completely. The creators of this game and of the musical score really know how to make you feel as if you are in the characters shoes, and that is something that is hard to do but they pulled it off excellently.

Detroit: Become Human is definitely one of my all time favorite games, and I hope that its creators come out with more amazing stuff in the future, especially if it is based in the same world as Detroit. But even if it isn't, if it makes me feel the way Detroit made me feel, it will definitely be a success.

Another great game from Cage. It's focused on emotional aspect, leaving existential and philosophical questions for other media products about AI. Good Cage-style stage direction mixed with great scenario form Quantic Dream's writers makes a magnificent game, even a masterpiece in my opinion. If you like interaсtive story-based experience, than go buy it right now!

The Story is the reason why you'll be playing. You can tell that this concept has been tackled dozens of times before from previous works like I robot or Metropolis, but this game executes it in a way that's much more refreshing and interesting. Usually when a game claims to have the ability to let you choose your own story and make how you want it based on your actions it tends to basically be more of an illusion of choice where they tell the story they want to tell with your actions having minor affect (looking at you, Telltale games) but this game actually has several well fleshed out paths that change the story DRASTICALLY. Your characters can die (both playable and secondary) leaving you with dire situations actually feeling DIRE (movies can't build up this much tension because of the fact that you can actually loose the characters you love) And seeing how your actions affect the characters and story is just a treat each time you play. There are three main characters of whom you control, each leading their own different but connected stories. Just saying it now, Markus is the most bland of the bunch, but that just means that you don't have enough reason to like him because the other characters are just so fleshed out.

The graphics are amazing, as is each game that QuanticDreams comes out with. The faces and expressions are amazingly photorealistic most of the time (there are time when their mouths could definitely be done better, but these are done better than most other games) I only wish the body movements were on par with the faces. They aren't BAD per se, but they aren't to the same degree as the faces, which can be noticeable at times, so by comparison they just look a bit lax.

The gameplay is geared towards maximum story telling, so don't expect anything like the newest God of War or anything. It's made for the purpose of the story leading the game, but the gameplay still stands out as pretty darn impressive regardless, playing as a detective robot and finding all the little secret nooks and crannies that are available is just downright fun. The controls, although generally tight enough to for the game's purposes, can sometimes be a little fidgety, causing your character to sometimes do things that aren't at all what you were telling them to do, which can lead to frustration as they especially love going wonky in high stress situations in the story where accuracy and speed are key. Other than that, the gameplay is tight and great. It's nowhere near as bad as Beyond Two Souls.

The music is like that of a blockbuster hit; it's just amazing, and keeps the situation tense when it is supposed to be tense, and emotional when it's supposed to be emotional, and the like.

The only reason you shouldn't play this game is if you don't like great stories and character development, in which case I'm sure there's a mindless shooter like Fortnite or something for you around somewhere.

The concept of branching pathways based on your choices is nothing new by any stretch of the imagination, Telltale have been doing it across various franchises for years now. But no other game comes close to the branching narrative that Quantic Dream have created. You see in the final chapter just how much can change, I didn't even get to see three sides of the narrative, because of the choices I had made both directly and indirectly. Other games see you mess up and the games go "Want another try?" where as Detroit forces you to play with those mistakes, this forces the player to be on edge at all times, you don't want to mess up and loose a character. Even by the end of the game I'm left looking back at my choices and going wow I wish I didn't do that because what felt right at the time had lead to this dramatic scene where I'm going to do something I really don't want to do but have to because I locked out any other possibilities due to my choices.

When it comes to this type of game you usually find that there isn't very much replay value but with Detroit you're left thinking what would happen if I done this, you want to go back and change everything fix what you done wrong the first time.

Detroit genuinely has the story of a film or series of TV shows (I feel Connor's story could fit rather well within a TV series) and I haven't been this engrossed in a story since Telltale's Walking Dead Season One. I'm truly excited to see where Quantic Dream goes next whether it's an expansion of the universe or another universe entirely, whatever it shall be, they have my money.

I truly recommend anyone that loves film or tv to pick up this game because it is a great watch/play. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea due to the style of the game being a narrative focus over the gameplay but it none the less is an incredible game.

Detroit: Become Human is really pretty, especially the effects like the rain and snow on characters are stunning. But under the pretty surface there is extremely little substance in regards to gameplay, and the little that is there often feels contrived and even unnecessary. Personally I don't feel any more immersed by having to swing my controller around in the air, it is just really annoying. The flow chart is a nice touch though where you can compare your decisions to others and see paths you might not have taken and it can be fun to go back to see how you can do things different to unlock new paths etc. Cage should drop all the stupid controller manipulations you have to do, it just looks stupid when you are in a "freezed cutscene" and have to move the analog stick in some strange angle to do something and can pause in the middle of the movement. It serves no purpose other than being annoying. What has always been interesting in these games are the choices you have to make and the branching paths etc. We don't need to sit and shake our controllers in the air to enjoy that.

The biggest problem with the game though for me, despite the really interesting topic of AI and its implications on the future, something I have always been very interested in, the whole story in Detroit feels really bland, predictable, propagandistic and just plain uninteresting, especially the part with Marcus. It is also disapointing that Cage seems to have some vapid SJW tendencies, if you come across any white males in the games you should do good to be on your toes and be careful since they are most likely bad people (like in real life right), but if they are black the be trusted and are friendly. And when you can choose the black power fist as your symbol and chant "I have a dream" in the streets it becomes a bit too much obvious what all this is about.

I never felt like I was on the edge of my seat with suspense, wondering what would happen next. The only sections that felt truly interesting was the sections with Connor (who is also by far the most interesting character in the game) who is the detective type. That really made me realize that this sort of game really fits so much better with a detective/crime setting where you are trying to solve some kind of murder mystery and I really hope the next game from Cage will be more of that where you have to investigate crime scenes, compare evidence and decide on what to do next in the case and what leads to follow and what people to suspect or investigate further. That could be truly interesting.

This game is awesome, the number of decisions and outcomes you can get is insane. I don't know why people say the replay value is zero, I finished the game four times and in all of them I got different endings. It's nothing like reaching the endgame and having to choose between two options while all the other decisions you made through the game affect little to nothing on the ending (like MANY games of this genre do). Every decision on D:BH counts, even the little ones can greatly change you story. Replaying the game to take different paths is something you should totally do.

Easily one of the best games of 2018. Well done, Quantic Dream!

I find it astounding that a game such as this was actually made - concepts go as far back as 2013, meaning that some middle managers fought hard to get this game made, remade, polished and finally released.

The writing is worthy of a favorite TV series or book - kudos to all involved. I really have no time to play games right now, but I stole every moment I could to further progress. Note that the game has a great narrative structure enabling short sprints of engagement, so it gets my new parent recommendation with a vengeance.

The list is long. I've almost lost hope I will find an exciting and memorable game to play. The "Detroit: Become Human" has been the first game from Quantic Dream I've played. Strangely enough, I've never heard about David Cage's games before, probably because I'm fan of PC and my family is a fan of XBOX. So, it's was a completely new experience on many levels. I have immediately fallen in love with this game. The branching of the story is a pure genius and something that had never been done before. Yes, story based games aren't new, but the fact remains that the sheer number of different endings is a novelty. It doesn't only mean the gamer gets different ending of a whole story. It means that we get a whole alternative stories from start to finish. It's like fanfiction on steroids with thousands of "ifs". The story itself is gripping and emotional, characters are very likeable, graphics and music are simply stunning, and overall playing is fun as hell. There are exploration, chasing and fleeing parts when we have full control of a character, there are also fights with QTE and of course parts when we need to make tons of decisions. For someone who doesn't like or even hate action games (I call it "just pressing buttons, hoping kill someone"), that's the best game to play. There's a lot of adventure, but the most important thing you need is your brain and wits, not buttons (but that doesn't mean you can't loose a fight if you are slow :D). There's definitely a room to improve, I will never question that. No game is perfect. But at this point of time it can't be better. Expand

That's why it's so tragic that at it's core, Detroit: Become Human is just another **** David Cage game. This game shows that once again, Cage has failed to learn from his mistakes and has merely gotten better at hiding his flaws. I can talk about a number of them (the lack of any real consequences for many decisions because Cage doesn't believe in game overs, the abrasively obvious moralistic overtones, the terrible cliches - like the son of the painter - who continue to show that Cage cares less about showcasing the human condition and more about pushing one particular narrative), but I'll focus on one in particular that really annoyed me. There are boatloads of menial tasks and fetch quests that have to be completed by the player to progress the story while not providing any real engagement or meaning. If anything, despite the obvious attempt to increase immersion, these tasks make me feel much less immersed because of how menial they are. David Cage needs to realize that escapism is a big part of why most of us play video games. Sure, there are many other reasons as well, but I never pick up a video game just so that I can feel like I'm doing the same chores that I'm avoiding by playing the video game in the first place. Immersion is certainly an important part of video games, and realism can be a key component of immersion. However, David Cage always takes it too far. Video games are special because they can transport us beyond the mundane lives that we lead. There are many great games that allow you to go through "real world" scenarios, but most of these games use surrealism to keep the player immersed - that is to say, there are many realistic situations and choices that the player has to make, but it's always buoyed by the fact that there is something special about the situation. This could involve fantasy or just a situation that's more extraordinary than our daily lives. Either way, we feel like we're able to vicariously experience things that we couldn't otherwise. Detroit: Become Human absolutely has the raw material necessary to pull something like this off. The world in the game is very interesting, and offers many opportunities to use this "surrealist" approach when assigning the player tasks. However, Cage somehow manages to turn this dynamic landscape into a boring, drab fetch quest simulator far too often. It's incredible frustrating to play through once this becomes apparent.

I honestly want to give this game a 4, but because of how many other aspects of the game were done well, I'm upgrading it to a 6. I'm definitely biased against this game because I really disliked pretty much all of his previous games, and I'm frustrated that he's getting away with it this time because the elements that he likely didn't contribute to were so good.

The most original game I’ve ever played. The creators of this game should be so damn proud. Hopefully other game makers wilt take notice and stop making such boring, predictable games. This game was amazing so many times throughout the game. Looking forward to more games from them. 10/10

Here youll be playing as 3 android in the year 2038
    Kara, Marcus, and Connor.
There are tones of slavery as well as abusive relationships here both physically and mentally…
As someone really into psychology the perhaps accidental metaphor instantly jumped out at me as youre a being doing everything in your power to be perfect, but its never enough…
I quickly made this connection having gone through something similar in my life and I felt for these androids as if they were human, and this is really what this game Is all about..
Androids al across Detroit have started to become deviants, meaning they’ve gone rogue,, they’ve broken from their programming and have started thing for themselves..
There will be moments here where there is the opportunity to break playing as your 3 characters… all of which have their own unique and equally intense story lines..
Kara who was probably my favorite story line is where you play as essentially a maid android taking care of a little girl in an abusive home…
but this game is all about choice.. there are over 10 endings for this game… so things you see or I talk about may never happen to you in your play through.. you can lose characters early.. and because of this your play time will vary..
All 3 androids made it to the final chapter in my story, and this playthrough took 12 hours…
As Kara I chose to run away with the little girl I was taken care of.. I became a mother figure.. protecting her at all costs, making she she had warm clothes and food to eat even if it means she started to look at me in a negative way, as the way you interact with the world around you.. the way your partners or the public perceive you.. and this is where the balancing juggling act comes into play…
Because youll be effecting the story of the other androids youre playing as as you all occupy the same world and live in the same city..
Youll also be playing as connor, who is essentially a deviant hunter, youll be investigating crime scenes, interigating other androids, trying to solve the case with your human partner hank, who isn’t the biggest android fan..
and finally theres marcus, caretaker turned revolution leader… youll have the dilemma of keeping things peaceful or essecalting things violently in an attempt of freeing your people…
I was surprised with the dilemma I ultimately faced while playing this game..
Making choices to save either an android or a human… do what it takes to solve my case or again make sure the little girl I was taking care of was safe at all costs..
it’s the thought provoking dilmas here of man vs machine that makes Detroit become human such a great experience…
there is tons of quick time events and choice making here…, this is very much a choose your own adventure game with risk and consequence around every corner.. story twists all over,
it’s one of those games where the less you know going in the better,
    So ill end things here..
If you enjoy philosophy in any way Detroit Become Human is a must play game.
    I give Detroit Become Human a 9/10

Loving the game, very immersive story. I always feel like the controls are a bit clunky with Quantic Dream games, not as fluid / intuitive as I feel they could be. It's my only complaint though, enjoying the game a lot.

The graphics are quite literally jaw-dropping at some points as well. The drama/action really sucks you right in. One of my new favorite PS4 games ever! I highly recommend this game to everyone.

Truly, out of all of his works so far, this is David Cage's most ambitious and well-done project. Most of the hate for Detroit: Become Human is generally founded on a "lack of gameplay or replayability", but David Cage's games are purely narrative. Detroit has several endings, which severely increases replayability. While I could continuously refute claims, let me go with the actual flaws that keep the game from being perfect.

    - Odd locomotion
Sometimes, your character will deem it necessary to spin around like a Beyblade when you try to go through a small space.

    - Choices
While most of the time your choices matter, there are quite a few inconsequential choices that have almost no bearing on the result of the story. It's just kind of irritating, though to the game's credit, these inconsequential decisions only come into play during filler conversations.

    - Questionable QTEs
Something that I noticed universally, not just from my playthrough but from several let's plays, is that some actions can confuse those that don't play fighting games. I say this unironically, because quanticdream seemed to take advice from BlazBlue and throw in half-circles. Another issue is the motion control tracking. It's relatively iffy at times, and I sometimes ended up nearly dropping the controller because I had to practically throw my body in one direction for the motion to pick up.

These issues are, in my opinion, what turns Detroit from a perfect narrative experience to an amazing narrative experience. If you have a PS4, buy it ASAP. It's well worth the money, in my opinion.

I found the game on the whole a phenomenal experience. While it was not like most games or game play, I went into playing this expecting what I got. An experience with choice driven plot and minimal free roam. We still have a long way to go before we can effectively combine the detail of a Quantic game, the immersive and hugely varied branching routes and include that in a cost effective but beautiful free roam game play experience.

I however enjoyed the minimal distraction of regular game play to see each choice and word I used severely change the outcome.

This game made me laugh, cry, angry, scream at my TV and panic. While far from perfect, for me it doesn't take away from the fact that I am looking forward to what Quantic will bring us next and how they'll improve even more.

That puts the game above and beyond anything else released in years.

The photo-realistic graphics and incredible voice/motion performances from experienced actors greatly contribute to the presentation as well, surpassing or matching recent games such as God of War in those departments. Jesse Williams, Valorie Curry and Bryan Dechart played their roles perfectly, breathing life into these robotic characters.

Others often criticize Quantic Dream games for their plots and gameplay. I will say that the writing in Detroit is much better than Heavy Rain's, but the gameplay in this one takes a backseat to Heavy Rain. With that said, the relentless criticism of Quantic Dreams' game plots and gameplay is dismissive of how far ahead they are from other developers in many other aspects. People should know by now that Quantic Dream is not in the business of making traditional games.

I'd much rather play an interactive movie that makes a statement than a game that wows me with tight gameplay and good characters but doesn't say anything.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
