David Cage expertly blends a B movie with a walking simulator. He has created, quite possibly, the most tedious form of media in existence.
It does look pretty, but so does No man's sky.

Shame about how overtly political it is, outside of the ham-fisted political views, the movie was rather well made. Unfortunately, the writers did a poor job with representing both sides of the conflict which left the story rather flat. Blatant propaganda.

Esperaba algo mejor, creo que no innova lo sufciente, sobre todo por ser una nueva generaciòn de consolas y tardaron màs de 4 años en realizar este juego. Aparte que es muy corto y no engancha en nada.

In my opinion, nothing special about this game, the three good things in this game are Connor (aka.: really good Blade Runner material), overwall aesthetics and one chapter in abounded amusement park with creepy glitching androids, nothing more

Cant say any positive about this game. Its still kinda boring like Beyond Two Souls or other games from Quantic Dream. Too much dialogs and a story that no one needs on earth. I dont have anything about David Cage, its just the "genré". the only good thing about this game is the superb graphic...
for me definately NOT game of the year

I would have given the hackneyed gameplay a pass if the story was remotely interesting and passable, but unfortunately, no. Worse yet is the racism and the use of Black suffering as a crux to show off how oppressed the androids are, going as far as to use Civil Rights movement references, Black Panther iconography, and equating the struggles of androids to that of black slaves. Detroit:I would have given the hackneyed gameplay a pass if the story was remotely interesting and passable, but unfortunately, no. Worse yet is the racism and the use of Black suffering as a crux to show off how oppressed the androids are, going as far as to use Civil Rights movement references, Black Panther iconography, and equating the struggles of androids to that of black slaves. Detroit: Become Human is the ultimate middle finger to black experiences and suffering, coming from the perspective of a French studio that has, in the past, used racist caricatures in their games. The subtlety in this game is equal to that of the game beating your head in with a heavy mallet. There is none. Any attempts to be non-offending, to be non-racist, are steamrolled over by black androids singing slave songs and running away on the android "railroad." This is, by far, probably the worst release of 2018, and the year is not even over yet. Expand

An another Cage Movie's... but story is just weird. There are so many inconsistencies, very badly written passages. If you criticize the game like a movie, it's really worthless. And unfortunate it's an interactive film, so the scenario is more important than for no other.

If I'm not mistaken, games are suppose to be fun. This is exactly what this "game" lacks. This game has sections where you're doing chores, laundry, waiting for the bus, walking, and babysitting. These are struggles some of us go through everyday. I play games to escape all of that. This is the last thing I want in a game.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is no reason to touch this game again. $60 for a 10 hour campaign with no replay value is a cashgrab. I recommend you wait for this game to drop to $10 before picking it up. If all you care about is story, just watch it on youtube and save $60.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m very late to playing this game. I’ve only heard good things about it so I gave in and decided to give it a try and I was genuinely impressed with it! The story was interesting, the choices fun, and the acting great. Then suddenly that just changes. The story becomes immensely generic, the choices make no sense to what you chose, and the characters become... well... androids. They have no emotion and you don’t care about any of them. One mission on particular is incredibly embarrassing and hard to play. That is the broadcast mission where out “hero’s” get to go be generic spy’s to get into a broadcast station to state why they should be free. Except the mission makes no sense. Why was there an Android outfit in the bathroom? Who stashed it there? How come nobody saw two androids against the windows of the building full of people? How did they get up the work elevator? How did they get all this spy crap when they have nothing at Jericho? So many things make zero sense and none of your choices matter. There’s also very little direction so you’ll spend most the mission ignoring the controls to figure out where to go. I literally let Simon die because I figured it would let me get out of the mission faster. And because I didn’t even know his name and had zero attachment to him. This mission just to lazy for me. They went for something generic and “cool” and pulled it off so embarrassingly bad. And that’s how the whole end of the game feels. I couldn’t recommend this game to anyone. It just ends up heartless and lazy after the first few hours. Expand

The sad thing that it comes down to is that the narritive just doesn't diverge enough for it to justify it's existence as a interactive story, and would this be released as a tv show on netflix I would definitely consider it to be below average. This is in part because of the bland characters and the kind of formulaic plot this story will follow given the fact that you make the choices that are the game is wanting you to. If you make a "bad" choice the outcome is so obviously awful that you really don't feel like the path you are taking is a whole different story in of itself. This is illustrated by the fact that if you make a "bad" decision the flowchart you follow just becomes less complete. Still, the animation and environments are a technical marvel. I would recommend this to people who like high concept sci-fi movies like the matrix with a descent hero's journey, but this is definitely not the game for me. Expand

Gee what a great "game". Whatever this is, game or interactive movie, it is disgusting. I wish I could give it a negative score. It deserves one. Detroit: Become Human is so offensive in so many ways.

I cannot fathom the high score by users. I guess they're all part of the everyone is a victim crowd. No doubt they feel that what happens to the androids is what is happening to them too.

Apparently the developer thought that since everyone is so in the love with the idea that almost everyone and everything is racist that they could cash in on it by making a game or interactive movie about the desperate and unjust plight of future androids. They basically equate it with past racism and slavery.

Personally, I say bring on the androids, but not the ones in this game, which are ridiculous and will never happen. Then again, considering they will be made and programmed by humans, maybe androids aren't a good idea.

Anyway, if you want to watch a lot of moaning, screaming and preaching about injustice, save yourself some money and just turn on the news or go on social media.

This game is very disappointing. I would strongly encourage players to RENT instead of buy this game. Get it off Redbox or something it is NOT WORTH $60. It's roughly 6 hours at best of gameplay.

The game itself is reasonably engaging and explores some interesting ideas regarding AI. While certainly unrealistic and overdone in the melodrama sphere, the game is fun to play through.

There's no real replay value here, though, once its done I had no patience to redo everything or even parts of the story (which they give you options to do)

One thing I do need to mention is that this game has more political biases of the devs being snuck into the game, which as many can guess, leans decidedly left. There's also no nudity of any kind in this game. Even when you visit the in-game android strip club, all the androids are fully clothed.

Even the name of the game is a huge problem and mistake: be come human. The android dont even want to be human, they want to live like independent species(if u play the game, u will understand this). another example is: Connor, an "android robocop" simply a copy of Norman Jayden from heavy rain, they both assertive, weak voice, both detective and have a kindda vulnerable body type, but the way they build Jayden is much better. music also nearly not exist, although the sound effect is very good and quite fit the scence. talk about control, is not feel so good, u can understand this when u touch the PS4 controller, this is not a big problem but is a one of the problem will make u dont even want to keep play the game, so dont even ask about should you replay the game. The game some time have bug and models fragment even you play the game in a PS4 Pro, but maybe some time they will "help" you laugh. this game is the product made from about 6 years ago, so dont expect some thing that extra ordinary or epic in this game, cause all the time, this game tell you what to do with forced dialogs, and some moment you will feels like that should have dialogs choices, but it dont have. I had to rate a 2 instead of 3 for one reason, the entire point of this game is to be an interactive story and there are major issues in that regard.

People may play through it once an enjoy the story yes, but as it is also a game not just a story there should be replayability. People don't buy games to play them once, and unfortunately the replayability is terrible.

Trying to replay even a second time reveals many glaring oversights.

First, there is no way to skip scenes and/or dialogue, or even fast forward; either option could have been easily implemented. Without them you find yourself watching the same exact scenes over and over frustratingly with no recourse other than waiting through boredom.

Another major issue is they created a checkpoint system they utterly fail to make use of. For example there is a scene that no matter what you will end up in the basement. It's proceeded by many minutes of tedious unskippable dialogue which you have absolutely no interaction or input during... yet once in the basement they neglect to create any checkpoint. This is ridiculous as nothing can be updated on changed before the basement so why force players to sit through this proceeding dialogue ad nauseam. There should be many many more checkpoints, especially scenes where nothing can be changed prior.

Finally, there is no background master database it follows so you can not simply replay one chapter. Yes this could possibly cause some conflicts but this could have been easily resolved by blocking only conflicted progression... or much more user friendly and not too difficult to implement, use a small measure of predictive storytelling to fill in the gaps.

Moreover they could have even simply done like other choice based games have and allowed user input to simply fine tune conflicting choices. In the end this is a game and supposed to be enjoyable not monotonous.

With the tediousness of the aforementioned issues. It is not very enjoyable to playthrough more than once and in fact ends up being frustrating.

It is a bug free, pretty execution of an Interesting story. If you take it (as I did) as an analogy for the African American journey, then you sure as hell better not play the way Malcolm X would, this will destroy all the story lines and you will be punished by EVERYONE you care about being killed. The ending I got I believe to be racist, it is telling people that violent revolution will be harshly punished and is ultimately pointless as we will murder your children with machine guns (this literally happened at the end of my play-through). I maintain a 4/10 is warranted with the play through I had.

The characters as well as the themes are awful and the only good thing is a decent political background surrounding the game that can be read and seen through the journals and televisions. Actually I ended up loving more the narrative background to be found in the game than the real characters of the story. The QTEs are incredibly boring and anti-fun, they literally make you realize you're holding a gamepad in front of a TV when instead a videogame should give you the illusion to live an experience that makes you forget of everything else. Another very sad game from Quantic Dream and David Cage...his writing skills are bad, very bad. Expand

8.7 is a joke. Bought the PC version, had to refund it, the game is that bad. The controls are absurd (at least with keyboard+mouse). The graphics is mediocre. The story is unoriginal and plain silly, full of in your face social commentary. The game deserves 5/10 tops.

    Half-baked political views.
Very obvious plot holes, some very bland and uninspired characters, and very repetitive gameplay offers players very little in terms of value.

But the first fruistraton i faced was on the first minutes of a game. The lead mechanichs turned out to be a step back from Beyond: Two Souls bringing us back to the Heavy Rain's gameplay. It would be not so disappointing if the same could be said about the story. But the story is the leading frustration of the game. Starting from the whole setting which is an ocean for the story arcs, philosopfical implications and many other thigs. But here we have a casual story about infrigement of rights and rebellion. The whole adroids' self awareness subject has no any disclosure. Storytellers has a lot of material to start with - from "Do androids dream of electric sheeps" and "Bladerunner" to a lot of modern interpetation of this topic. But it seems the main goal was not to open the question on the other hand. And in the end we have a story in which you can switch androids of 2038 to opposite civilians in any dictatorial country nowadays and nothing will change in general. Twists as well leave much to be desired - especially the one with Alice that force you to lose most of emotional connection with her and Kara's story.

The decision mechanichs this time seems like cat in a bag. Most of times you make an important descisions but a few moments later you realize that the way you've chosen is not what you really thought it would be. In previous QD's games a hard descisions were as well a big part of gameplay and immersion and when i had to chose something the game provided exactly what it promised. In Detroit i always made a descisions that may be interpreted in many ways. And they always turned out to be not what they seemed.

With all the proven experience and the story ending i was deeply frustrated. I expected a new masterpiece but only got a casual interactive movie to play at once. Only a girl from main menu really was something fresh and special.

I've done pretty much everything there is to do in this game. And your choices do not matter. No matter what you choose you get the exact same gameplay experience. Speaking of which, there is no gameplay, it's a visual novel. The whole story revolves around a pitifully weak racism allegory and it offers nothing new whatsoever. The only thing this game has to offer is it's wonderful graphics, but that's it, you get nothing from Detroit: become human that you wouldn't get from a movie. How hollow this game is, paints a bleak picture for the future of gaming, it sets a precedent that the only thing a game needs to make money is pretty graphics. A couple times throughout the game you'll think to yourself "what if I made a different choice there?" And after the level you'll go back and make that different choice and it counts as a different ending, but it's the same thing, the only difference is that a character 5 levels from now says a slightly different sentence. No matter what you "choose" Marcus leads a revolution, Connor investigates, and Kara is a mom. "But anon the endings are different!!!" You say, well yes the endings are different but it's just the very end, you could get the same experience from this game as if you played the whole thing as if you played the last hour. So don't buy it, it's not worth $40, watch someone play it or if you're actually looking for something where you're choices matter play an old fallout game, or play an actual visual novel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Non-Spoiler:

Firstly, this is a QTE driven game-movie. The game-movie part I have no problem with, but the QTE I do. In one instance, I was reaching to grab a drink of water in what I thought was a cut-scene, but it changed into a QTE. I failed the QTE. Since this entire game was built on not having a "Game Over" screen to allow you to repeat a section, it basically screwed up my entire game.

Secondly, the controls aren't much and what you do get is can be frustrating. Forced camera angles at times. Having to hold R2 to reposition gets old fast. The buttons you push for QTEs are different for everyone, event though the character is doing the same action on the screen.

Thirdly, games like this are marketed in way that leads you to believe that you are in control of the story. In this case that's not entirely true. I made a decision that got a character killed and that decision affected the rest of the game very negatively (see spoiler section below).

    Spoilers:
First things first, I played Detroit: Become Human after playing The Last of US Part 2, so I was in a conflicted mindset to begin with. The first half of the game I was fine, I like David Cage's story and where it was going. The Kara & Alice / Connor chase sequence had me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing. Alice nearly got run over and Kara was nearly hit. I found myself say, "No, no, no, no...." throughout the entire event. You had me. Overall I was about 95% positive with Kara, about 75% positive Markus, and about 50% positive with Connor. Then things went downhill fast.

I made a series of decisions that went bad for Markus, Connor improved over all, and Kara was nearing 100% positive. Markus died at the march, martyring himself. I made one bad decision in the Archive Room with Connor and I was not able to figure out the Jericho location. He was deactivated. So all that was left was Kara. Since the story was still progressing, North became the defacto leader in place of Markus and she starts a revolution in the streets. And I have no control over them. I cannot control the flow of the game now. Even though I had a nearly flawless Kara storyline, Everyone died. Luther, Kara, and even Alice. I was so pissed when that happened. I don't advocate for walkthroughs or cheats very often, but had I known that would have happened - an NPC's decision was going to totally wreck a nearly perfect storyline - I would have just looked for a "good ending" walkthrough.

Next time, just give me a "walking sim" without the annoying and distracting QTEs. I would have enjoyed it more than what I played. Having to repeat a small portion of gameplay would have been more welcome that having to play for 12-15 hours and fail the entire game - have to hear a little girl cry right before she gets shot.

Update: I decided to try a walkthrough to get a "happy" ending. I got a little ahead of myself and made a wrong choice.... not replaying 6-7 hours. I'm done with this game.

Detroid: Become human, well, honestly, I expected more from Quantic Dream: ( a story about robots, but we are not given a decision-are robots good or bad? the developers of the whole game say that androids are good, I think the opposite. *possible spoilers* arrange meetings due to the fact that they are slaves and want freedom? don't you find it funny? they can't feel, but the developers say you should feel for the androids . * spoilers are over* the plot is 5/10 (3 points for Conor), the gameplay is not bad (6/10), but the game is good because after your action, the whole story can change, it's mildly surprising for this (8/10). I think that I wasted my money, I didn't like the story, but if you are a huge fan of this genre, I advise you to buy (just like a techno reviewer))), well, the overall rating is 4/10(3 points for Conor and 1 for the variety of action choices))) Expand

While I found the story of the game very enjoyable despite a few misteps, the whole experience was ruined by the inability to alter or turn of QTE.

Quick Time Events are a large part of the game and necessary for it's play style but forcing players to swing their controls around in the air really destroys any tension created in the story.

On top of this I would frequently not get to make a decision because my reaction time was not quick enough or I was unable to decipher what the symbol on the screen wanted me to do with the controller. On occasion missing QTEs due to dropping my controller from attempting to swing it around to hit the previous prompt. This lead to me feeling cheated out of getting to play the game, and I had no interest in going through plot points again because I messed something up. The punishment for a split second mistake is just far far to high.

All of this would have been a moot-point if the game provided any accessibility options in the controls whatsoever.

Ultimately I do not recommend you buy or play this game.

Great graphics, though utterly intolerable gameplay, so boring, I couldn't engage with it at all! I tend to persist with all games and this is one of the few that I wished I'd never bought. I just kept thinking 'who cares'. Spending time trying to work out which ways that the computer would accept to jump up to a window or onto a building etc was too dull for me.

For example North the female bot, when taking on fight or flight missions she would rather commit violence and influence Marcus to do it. I will give it this, choices actually do matter. The flowcharts in this game are wonderful, and the amount of different ways the story can play out is very impressive. Good job!

Gaming as a medium has so far been absolutely pathetic in telling engaging stories that also maturely deal with themes. The themes here should be deeply scientific or philosophical. The game does not touch on either of them. Robots just become human in the most naive and straight forward way possible. Its not a deep game by any stretch of the imagination. And even outside of that, the plot kind of breaks down in the second half.

The gameplay is very mediocre. So yes, its a choices matter game where choices actually matter, but thats all it really has to offer.

Detroit: Become Human delivers a story with a ton of possible choices, and a lot of questions for a player to bear afterward. If you like it when games make you think about them after you play them, this is the game for you. Stunning visuals and music score, make you forget about some weaker points of the game. But all in all, it is an enjoyable experience you should not miss.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
