Fells like a piece of poo after it was digested thru the someone that has no idea on even how poopy games should be made. I gave it a 0/10, death sentence, sry. Its a flop, fix it properly to pick up the shards. Get rekt.

RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG. PvP is ridiculous with lag. 5 shots to the head, all five hits showed up as a hit and do zero damage? Garbage game, waste of money even on sale.

Within a day of the release, people could already tell that the lack of character development, plot, story arc, or anything other than a mindlessly repetitive grind-fest. The AI is made of dumb bullet sponges, and the spawn enemies and spawn points were exactly the same every time... no matter how many times a new quest required you to play through the same tired levels (expect dozens or hundreds of times for some maps). Bosses are just larger and/or take more bullets to kill. No real change in strategy anywhere. The online multiplayer and coop have no matchmaking... so prepare to find groups offline.

I've never been more disappointed in a game that promised so much. And after the subsequent DLC rendered vanilla destiny unplayable... I kind lost any respect I have for Bungie and Activision who were previously my two favorite developers. It sets a terrible precedent for game making that you can massively under-deliver and coast on pre-orders, then pull content out from underneath the day one adopters unless they continue to buy up. This is my last pre-order, and the last game from either of these developers.

My main reaction to this game is the frustration of seeing how much missed potential there is for the franchise. There is so much more that Bungie can be doing with Destiny, and I was hoping they'd hit the nail on some of them with D2, but alas it's not the case. It's like no one at Bungie plays any MMOs that have really well designed customization and progression systems.

I should have seen this coming from Activision regardless who actually developed it because otherwise it's hard to imagine Bungie was actually involved.. It's the same boring, repetitive, unintelligent mess that has become (and continues to perpetuate) Call of Duty. No actual thought went into play testing, reflection, or common sense mechanical decision making.

A perfect example of everything fundamentally wrong with this game is the story. Clocking in at around 10 hours, it ends exactly how it starts- no characters, no point, no plot, and so full to the brim of watered down sci fi psychobabble every single loading screen consists of nothing but disjointed terms that mean nothing and sound ridiculous. "A ketch!", "Queen of bleh", "the darkness bluh", "A koris!", "Storm of Struvock", "The tinkle of flub"... I've read better science fiction on the back covers of JA pulp novels at the public library.

Once you finish the entirely anticlimactic story (not that you cared anyway), what else is there?

Well, if you've got a couple of friends and you like playing overly drawn out horde mode missions that you've already completed in the story campaign you might find a couple hours of fun in the "Strike" playlists. The first thing you'll notice is that most of the post game gear you have is now completely useless so look forward to replaying the same hour long boss fights over and over in the hopes you'll randomly get better gear just to play the same missions on a higher difficulty*. You'll do this until you realize you can get more and better drops in 20 minutes of PvP than you could in several hours of PvE.

*Difficulty is completely relative by the way as every single enemy in this game (besides the basic minions) has splash damage based attacks and no amount of armor will stop you from getting killed repeatedly from enemies who don't even need to shoot you. Enemies who's AI doesn't at all improve with difficulty, only their egregiously large heath bars. This all presupposed you have a few friends because good luck meeting new people thanks to the convoluted and painful "fireteam" system.

When you do find that drops are much more plentiful in PvP you can spend hours getting pissed off over horrendously lazy, mind blowingly imbalanced, shoddily designed mechanics in one of a couple modes. You have TDM, Domination, and variants of 3v3 slayer.

TDM is about what you'd expect from CoD- spawn in some random place and run around for a few moments before getting insta-killed by a jumping rocket, a hilariously far-reaching lunge melee attack, or any number of head-scratchingly overpowered "super" attacks.

Domination (called "control" here) can be fun if it wasn't for some of the worst map design in FPS history. No hyperbole- every single map was designed solely with spawn trapping in mind. There will be two points in a somewhat close proximity with direct, safe lanes of view to a third, proportionately farther away point. If you start on the good side and cap both close points, victory is pretty much a given as you can stand behind cover and easily pick off the enemy as they spawn over and over too far away to cap another point. Not that it matters when a single super attack can completely secure (or stop) a point capture with zero effort.

I wont talk about the third mode because ultimately it doesn't matter. The fact is the PvP side of things is at best broken and at worst non-functional. Watch in rage inducting glee as you: get killed by supers through walls, enemies mysteriously take no damage at opportune times, are unable turn your head to look around you (even with your sensitivity on blast), get stuck on map terrain, get match made 2v6, constantly have players quit mid match with no penalty, struggle to navigate map poor design, constantly fight with the most aggressive sticky-aim in gaming history (and still not hit anything), and drop dead before an enemy actually attacks OR kill enemy players only to watch them run around and shoot at you for full seconds before they finally die.

According to Bungie.net I've played Destiny for almost 24 hours stretched across 3 days and I've seen absolutely everything this game has to offer already; every mission, map, mode, and weapon. I've seen at least enough to know that there isn't enough content to keep my interest and no matter how much (or across how many modes) I play "The Crucible" it doesn't get any better.

This game is getting terrible reviews everywhere for good reasons. If you'll notice, the good reviews that attempt to dispute the bad ones are people who arent arguing the points made and just writing off bad reviews as trolls.

In my experience the game is boring, shallow, and repetitive. I wish I had bought the physical copy so I could trade back for some of the money I put in to it.

Repetitive- There is really only one mission over and over. Deploy ghost at a certain point and defend him against waves. Eventually you'll find a boss that is really only a bullet sponge and nothing more. The sword mission was awesome as it was the only break in the monotony.
Boring- The story is short and uninspiring. It has potential but is hardly explored. The voice actors seem to be doing what they can with what they're given. Why not just let Dinklage use his native accent?

This game is pretty good. I like aspects of it, but it also feels quite limited and I felt like i got the idea of the whole game just from the beta I played. Quite repetitive, but if you are playing with friends (even though its a limit of 3?) it is a lot more fun. Hoping this will tide me over until Far Cry 4 or Dying Light, but its not looking hopeful.

Not the worst but definitely one of the most uncomplete games I have ever played. Few levels, few enemies, eternal loading times, repetitive events with absolutely no variation. To be fair, the classic multiplayer PvP is quite fun but it's not balanced well. I wish I hadn't bought this game.

It's not an MMO, mainly because it lacks the first M in the acronym, Massive. The biggest PVP situation you can get yourself into currently is 6v6. Really? For me it's very typical of the COD style we've all become antiquated with and while it's a good style, Bungie didn't really try to do anything to set itself apart. The playstyle in Co-op got very repetitive very fast and was generally not very challenging. The 'extra' skills you learn are very generic as well and don't add much to the combat style since you're still just going to be shooting everything and throwing grenades anyways. I'd rather be playing CoD or Battlefield were at least the game play is challenging and ever changing.
I might be biased in giving it a 0, but I rate it lower than I normally would because I feel deceived by the developer and publisher. They sold this game as an MMO that you could explore the universe with and go into massive battles with your buddies against tough enemies, and it's nothing like that. It's just a borderlands clone.
The one redeeming factor I can mention about this game is it is very beautiful. Bungie has been good about making very visually appealing games. Maybe in the future they should just focus on their game engine and market that out to game developers, or get better developers in to work on their own stuff. Really disappointing, but not surprising for Bungie after coming off the heels of Microsoft.

The story is chalk full of cliche, and I can't tell if the game is taking itself seriously half the time. With an evil force known as "The Darkness," there is much to be desired if one was expecting a riveting story. Overhyping a game to high heaven and promising the moon, and then delivering a bland and average game with none of the features promised is just not right. In any other industry fines would be levied for outrageous claims, but in video games you can promise things that aren't even in the game!

There is NO LOOT. No chests, enemies drop NOTHING. You get items as rewards for finishing quests, and they are usually boring and bland, with names like "SINA JAGUAR 2.1R3". wtf is that?? A HELMET. Oh wait it's also a pair of pants because they have the SAME NAME.

Items also have the same art design as items from Runescape-- a free to play online MMORPG that's about 15 years old (meaning NONE).

Equipped items don't even change how you look. You can notice a few slight adjustments here and there, but the overall character model accounts for 65% of what you see, so everybody looks the same.

The menu design is horrendous and archaic, nothing makes sense and I still can't figure out where certain things are.

Gameplay wise it's really just a stripped down version of Halo. Areas are quite small, and every mission is exactly the same as the last.

The story is no "Cinematic Experience" as promised, but rather nonexistent.

Multiplayer is like Halo and Call of Duty, minus all the vehicles, cool level design, and tactical gameplay. Run around and shoot ****

If you're thinking of buying this game, all I can say is -- "SPACE WIZARDS". Yes, there are space wizards.

They basically combine the crappiest elements of Halo and Borderlands 2 with space, magic, and then dumb the whole package down further.

I guess I'm just saying that I feel like this game should have flopped and gotten everybody canned, especially the devs making outrageous claims to the press. But instead the hype they've built has just proven a new business model for the gaming industry-- that delivery doesn't matter, only what you can **** prospective buyers into with hype.

This game has single handedly made me quit playing video games. I'm done. I can't support an industry that considers this kind of garbage it's crowning gem.

Now, the game is not bad, just very mediocre. Destiny does a lot of things well, but its so safe, uninspired and lacking in anything fresh that it ends up being a jack of all trades, master of none. The game so clearly wants to be a Halo/Borderlands hybrid, but it misses the marks that make both series popular and falls into a strange gray area. It has the exact same identity crisis that Elder Scrolls Online has, in that it can't decide if it wants to be a singleplayer/Co-op focused shooter, or an MMO. It has MMO elements, but since there's no big PVP battles and the world is way smaller than it was hyped up to be, it hardly feels like an MMO, especially with no real voice chat. But, because it still has the gameplay of an MMO IE: Repetitive grinding and a severe lack of mission variety, it simply isn't as fun as a single player/Co-op experience (especially with no local Co-op). If your game is an shooter with MMO elements, but the MMO elements aren't used effectively, its just a shooter with annoying DRM.

Don't get me wrong, the core of the gameplay is still excellent. The game controls well, the leveling is satisfyingly addictive, the gunplay and physics are tight, the environments are gorgeous and the weapon customization, while not as deep as say, Borderlands, is still very fun. But that's the problem. Like I mentioned before, the game just lacks any discernible wow factor and leaves the player feeling like its all been done before and better. You'll fight the same enemies, in the same mission types, with the same objectives over and over and over again. The objective always seems to be: Fight off waves of enemies while the Dinklebot hacks into something, or Guard the Dinklebot while it opens this door. For a game that hyped itself up to be a game that will be the next big thing in Next Gen gaming, it plays it insultingly safe.

Maybe the most heinous sin that this game commits is that it lied about its size. The game was billed as having this massive world with an emphasis on organic exploration. Nope, its a mostly linear shooter that takes place in various indistinguishable rooms and outdoor areas. The story, which may be the most disappointing aspect of the game, is insultingly short. It took me about 7 hours to finish the story campaign, which included about an hour of grinding for gear. 7 hours? In a game that is supposed to have a 10 year life span? Are you kidding me? This game is hardly an MMO, more like a Fairly Sized But Far Smaller Than They Promised It Would Be Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter. It needs its own genre, FSBFSTTPIWBMOFPS. Wonder if it'll catch on... The worst part is, is that what little story you do get, is not memorable at all. Seriously, can anybody tell me the story or lore of this world? No you can't. There's no engaging narrative or characters worth getting emotionally invested in. I'm not saying that every game needs to have this, as I much prefer games that try to excel in gameplay, music and visual style, but its like Bungie suddenly forgot that they made Halo, which had both an epic sci-fi narrative and characters worth caring about. Most of the story is told by the Dinklebot, in a flat tone, as if Peter Dinklage was given Ambien and then forced to narrate the world's most boring documentary on space. Most of the sound design in the game, including the music is lackluster, which is a shame since Marty O' Donnell composed it, and he usually knocks it out of the park. The PVP is mostly worthless too, as it is horribly balanced, and uncharacteristically of Bungie, has very poorly designed maps.

Overall, I played about 9 hours of it on a rental and I got to level 12. I'm sure as with most MMO's, it gets better once you hit the level cap, but the game did nothing to convince me to keep playing it, and unless you're Zelda Twilight Princess, I'm not under the impression that games get to be boring for 6 hours before getting good. I've heard the game is also better with friends, but most things are better with friends, and I believe that games should be able to hold up as a single player experience. Destiny will go down as the poster child of overhyped, underwhelming games and should be a harsh lesson to gamers about pre-ordering games and buying into advertising hype. Because of the record breaking amount of pre-orders, the game feels stripped of content, clearly made to squeeze more money out of consumers with DLC and expansions that should have been in the game at launch. The best thing I can say about Destiny is that it's just another soulless AAA game that promised us heaven and drags us through hell, like Watchdogs, ESO, Thief, and Titanfall before it. For some people the core of Destiny is good enough to find enjoyable, but for people who haven't allowed themselves to be force fed the flavorless gray paste that is the modern AAA gaming industry, we expect better.

Can't comment on the story as I'm only so far in. Multiplayer pvp seems fun. Enemies are repetitive for the first few hours. I like to address the mmo crying I keep hearing. Bungie has repeatedly called this a share world shooter. It has elements of mmo and other games in it. Don't buy if you're expecting World of Warcraft with guns and an outer space theme.

I haven't tried hard modes yet but I look forward to it.

I feel that I am very lenient with a 5, maybe I am hoping that later part of the game will be better since I just finished the demo part (earth + 1 mission on the moon). The game is pretty boring so far especially with that soothing Peter Dinklage voice (put some emotions and do your GoT accent, man). The storyline is really not that gripping: I don't really feel like saving the world, II feel that I am very lenient with a 5, maybe I am hoping that later part of the game will be better since I just finished the demo part (earth + 1 mission on the moon). The game is pretty boring so far especially with that soothing Peter Dinklage voice (put some emotions and do your GoT accent, man). The storyline is really not that gripping: I don't really feel like saving the world, I don't really feel connected to it. And honestly, Bungie should done a better ripping of Borderlands: more loot and freaking scopes on guns, seriously f*** iron sights. And the whole social/mmo part of the game... yea that probably sounded nice on paper. On the note of PVP, if you plan on doing PVP, do not play as a hunter, the stupid golden gun is just underpowered when you have a titan or warlock doing their AoE type of super attack, it's like bringing a gun to a nuke fight. Waiting for the critics to post their review, they probably are all afraid to say this multi-million $ game is crap because it was so overhyped initially. Expand

This is a well made, fun to play game. The gunplay is solid and the loot hunting addictive. The game is rough round the edges in places, but overall is a quality title well worth your money (although perhaps not worth full retail price).

A beautifully boring and repetitive game. It's not an MMO, its Halo with a spit shine, a Borderlands rip off, grind, grind, grind all for nothing. Co-op isn't really Co-op, for a multiplayer game the world sure seems empty and the PvP is the same retread of every other FPS game. This game should have been a free download...

I had fairly high hopes for this game. It was fun at first, but quickly became monotonous and boring. It looks beautiful and controls well. Unfortunately, the story is very weak and the combat is repetitive and lacks variety.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
