The story mode is some what repetitive but has its moments. The reason why I gave it an 8 and why I am loving it so far is because of the pvp. The pvp is really good and that alone makes it worth 40 quid.

I have to say for all the people that are leaving short negative reviews. Don't trust them. These are just trolls. I give the opening of Destiny an 8/10. Why an 8/10 and why not a 10, 5, 3 or a 0. Well because the game is fun to play, and has a lot of potential but is lacking story characters and player chat like in other MMO games. I give the opening of Destiny an 8/10. Why an 8/10 and why not a 10, 5, 3 or a 0. Well because the game is fun to play, and has a lot of potential but is lacking story characters and player chat like in other MMO games. The gameplay is superb, and the graphics are very crisp. Let me just point out. I played the Beta, and Earth is still the same Earth, so if you leave a review you need to play at least till end of Moon to have a credible review as that is when the game starts to get good.

And the weapons feel great. The shooting is fun, and frantic and I appreciate the challenging gameplay. The game is not easy, but gives just enough challenge for an average gamer. I wish maybe a more variety in weapons, but I am sure they will add more variety later. The game is basically a very polished beta at this time. So do not expect much. World of Warcraft didn't even have raids the first year. These guys plan to release a raid pretty soon. People expecting the best game every made will not get it right away. First you gotta level up. Get some good weapons, then hit the end game. That is when the actual fun begins. I hate leveling myself too. I mean who can actually admit they enjoy leveling up? Maybe gearing up, but not grinding. Destiny does have leveling, but not as much as other roleplaying games. They want you to experience the game, without having to level to 60. Think about it.

Also to the people who complain about this game being online only. Welcome to 2014. A lot of things these days require a stable broadband internet connection. Time to get with the times old folks used to playing single player games. The game is meant to feel like a persistent changing world. Don't judge the game by the first 20 hours of playing it and say it is too hard, when you are actually using the starting gear. When you get better gear, the game will get easier, so you will be able to tackle harder missions. All the people say the bosses take a long time to kill, think about it, you are using WOWs equivalent of Greens and Grays. You cannot kill anything with starting gear. You need to get some decent loot first before you can solo stuff.

To all the people complaining about the game not being able to have anyone to play with. I have like 50 people on my PSN friend list and I am incredibly antisocial, most of those people (friends) I met playing other Playstation games like Warframe. So to sum it up, don't complain you cannot make friends, just wave to someone and add them as a friend. You will be surprised how many people will join you on a quest or a strike in Destiny.

One thing that players must understand, is that this game has been overhyped fro several years now. So of course it will not live up to those kind of expectations. The expectations created are unrealistic. So instead, look at what kind of game this is. This is basically and Halo-esque RPG. And it is wonderful. Being an experienced MMO player for the days of vanilla World of Warcraft, this game has great MMO checkpoints. A leveling system that keeps you wanting more. Loot that drives you to get the best items. And subtle customization that makes you spend days figuring our what you want to play.

This game lets you play one of the best designed FPSMMOs out there. You go through the story to get levels to find out what the class you picked is capable of. Or you PvP in the amazing Halo style combat. Or, for the old-school gamers, you can just grind and get higher and higher levels and just bask in the rewards of excessive grinding. This game does it all. PvP combat that has the FPS elements of skill, yet subtle changes due to weapons, gear, and level to a degree. All of them work. The balance is spectacular.

Want to roleplay? Well guess what, you are a Guardian, one of the last vestiges of a civilizations golden age. You are the champion that is protecting the one remaining city on Earth from falling into darkness. It's here. Want to PvP? Level up smoothly in the game modes that you craved for in Halo. Get new gear as you annihilate your opponents. Want to quest? Then go to story mode and listen to Peter Dinklage edpouse his wisdom. Grind in the surprising open world patrols that are offered on each planet. There is plenty to do in this game, almost a little bit for everyone.

So many people are dissatisfied that it doesn't live up to expectations. Instead, take it as it is. A game that the developers took time to be enjoyable. To make you spend hours, and realize that it is tomorrow and work in is 2 hours. A game that you can lose yourself, and remember and enjoy every moment that you spent. This game is an amazing game to play, and I hope that most of you understand that it is a cu above he rest that have released. It breathes life into the FPSRPG genre, and it cares about it. It is a game that will not be forgotten. I hope people remember this game as a genre defining staple in a stagnating marketing. Play it, and let your enjoyment be the true judge of this adventure.

One of the critic reviews concluded that Destiny is just an empty house built on a solid (gunplay) foundation with a shiny exterior. True, but I see it as a vacation home. I won't live there, but will definitely visit every now and then.

Destiny is a great sci-fi action FPS. Lots of people are trying to grade it as an MMO or RPG, but that's not what it is. It's a FPS that incorporates some MMO and RPG elements. But, for the most part, Destiny is a very enjoyable FPS. It takes a few hours to get into, but from about 4 or 5 hours in, to about 25 hours in I had a blast. Now though, as I'm up to the mid 20's and trying to find the top line loot that allows you to reach the highest levels, I'm getting pretty frustrated with the loot system. The game rewards you with loot seemingly based on performance in all game modes, including multiplayer. But it is just random, it doesnt seem to have much at all to do with performance, which can be very frustrating. The last two nights I played for hours trying to loot up, but was unlucky and got almost nothing, at one point winning 4 rumble pit matches in a row, in which I got nothing, but in some every single other player was rewarded with loot. At this stage of the game, it is starting to feel like a chore, the grinding to try to move up levels, and so it gets frustrating when you dont find a reasonable, logical way to make your time spent playing equate into reasonable progression. But, other than that, it's a great game. Expand

I would say this is just a chat room game, but there is no general chat!!! I have yet to play any of the campaign with anyone other than myself. I even had to stop playing the game and try to recruit some psn friends on reddit because there is an inexcusable amount of ways to communicate with anyone. After playing some of the smoother mp games like CoD and titanfall, I can't help but notice how choppy mp can be. I did like that the mp gives you a random chance to get upgrade after you finish a map. This promotes people hanging in there and not rage quitting. Overall I think this game will do really well and if they implement more communication features people might even stick around. Expand

Also, you have a little robot companion voiced by Peter Dinklage. It sounds awesome, but he shows absolutely no emotion ever. In the end, he was completely wasted. However, what makes this game a 7/10 is the gameplay. While repetitive, it is very satisfying and kept me playing for several hours straight. Which, when you get down to it, is what matters most in a game.

Verdict - 7.2/10 While the story aspect didn't live up to people's expectations in the slightest bit, and there is surely going to be a bunch of overpriced DLC crammed down our throats in the near future, I have to say, the gameplay was damn fine and who knows, by the time this game is finally completed, it all may end up living up to the hype.

EDIT: This review was written while I still thought there would be more than 10 hours of actual content. Once you beat the campaign, the "content" was merely repeating the same levels and enemies to get gear until you can finally get your numbers high enough to do the raid. Naturally, I was really salty about this. The text of my original review giving this game 9/10 can be found below.EDIT: This review was written while I still thought there would be more than 10 hours of actual content. Destiny is not a traditional MMO. The world is sliced up into planets, with the tower on Earth being the hub. Buying, finding, and selling gear is incredibly streamlined, but there is not auction house or trading between players of any kind. The Economy in Destiny is purely based on Player-NPC interactions.

So why did I give the game a 9? For one, the enemies are really well designed and incredibly diverse. There are different factions of enemies you'll encounter and each requires a certain strategy to deal with. To describe three of the many factions: There are your standard halo-esq enemies with a blend of snipers, grunts, and heavies; There are your Zombie esq enemies that consist of zerg-rushing zombies and pot-shotting generals; And there are slow-moving teleporting enemies who use horde tactics to overwhelm players. Combine these enemies with varying terrain for different combat scenarios and the game rarely get repetitive.

The gun-play is incredibly refreshing in this age of standard modern-military shooters. The fast movement speed combined with the relatively slow projectile speed of the enemies weapons will make you duck and dodge constantly. Additionally, the hip fire on many of the guns is surprisingly accurate, to the point where it makes more sense to use hip-fire and retain mobility rather than use ADS in close combat situations. Finally, the melee attacks can often dish more damage than the guns themselves. In point blank situations, the best strategy is often to use melee and gun together in a sort of one-two punch that is incredibly satisfying.

The mounts are a joy to ride. Players get a speeder bike very early in the game that can take them from one end of a map to the other in minutes. Unlike other MMO's whos mounts are controlled by a simple point-and-go system, the mounts in Destiny are actually physics driven. The maps are also designed so that you'll never be going straight for long, as you will constantly be weaving between rocks and other obstacles. If you ever watched the speeder bike chase in Star Wars VI and wanted to play that, this is your chance.

The PvP in the game plays a lot like the original Halo trilogy, except you choose your weapon loadout instead of scavenge weapons. Players start out with only ammo for their normal gun (assault-rifles, pistols, etc) and special gun (shotguns, snipers, etc). Throughout the match, players can find ammunition for their heavy gun. The weapons players bring are the weapons they find in PVE, with the damage output scaled to be even. The only disadvantage for low-level players is the lack of abilities gained from levelup. All in all, Destiny's PvP is the Halo 4 multiplayer we were looking for.

I've heard a lot of people say the game is "grindy," and that the gameplay just consists of "go here, kill mobs, go there, kill more mobs." To that I say "what were you expecting?" Every first person shooter in existence can be described this way. The game, at times, can feel easy but every mission has a hard mode attached to it that is often overlooked. Playing on hard mode on a mission your level is a challenge similar to playing halo on Legendary.

All in all, Destiny is a mediocre MMO, but a Superb shooter. Playing solo is quite fun, and playing with friends is a grand experience. It is well worth the price of $60, especially when compared to other games of a similar pricetag. If you like Halo or other shooters, and don't care about MMO elements, then buy this game!

As someone who's played the Alpha AND Beta, everything in the final version of Destiny is what I came to expect. The world is unique and inspiring, the weapons sound great and there's plenty to do that will last you for weeks.

I don't know... it's overhyped, you can't really communicate with anyone apart from dancing in front of them, it's locked at 30 fps because it would be "unfair" to the other systems to have it at 60, you can win any situation even at hard difficulty by backing up a little bit and the enemies will retreat and the whole game is as repetitive as a game can get.

But boy, do I love it.

After playing the Alpha and Beta extensively, I can say that this game is extremely addictive. I thought I would have already had my fill but upon official release I still need to get my fix. -1 point from 10/10 for:
    - mob similarity
    - predefined starting zone when you go on a patrol mission
    - main hub is kinda "meh" in design. Not bad, but not really good either

    What I loved:
    - Weapon/armor design

    - Great sci-fi feeling
    - Huge locations
    - Coop with a friend is awesome

I personally thought it was a semi-finished masterpiece. I played it for a solid weekend with two other friends. It was very entertaining and addicting, I couldn't put it down. The gameplay was fun and varied, the guns were fun and exciting to use (besides the fact that rocket launchers are **** useless). The boss battles were stressful and rewarding in the end.

The majority of people writing reviews of this game are giving it a bad review because they are comparing it to games that have nothing to do with it. Remember that Destiny is supposed to be a ten year long game full of DLC and new content. For all those people freaking out because people are giving it such a bad time understand that nobody liked Diablo 3 when it came out. In conclusion, although Destiny is lots of fun now, it will take sometime before it develops into what may be one of the greatest games of the new generation.

    Graphics:
Okay so obviously games these days arent fully polished before being released. But Destiny seems to give off that polished feel- in most levels. There are a couple (about 4-5) instances where theres broken textures or bleeding lightmaps which for a game this big is a very tiny ammount.Coming from a fellow game developers perspective its quite a hard thing to fully polish something before release and I do feel for the artists when they hear theres a couple of faults. Those who are wonderingg which console will look better I have to admit out of both of my consoles the Ps4 looked better in terms of graphics. It could just be because of the native 1080 with the playstation console but nevertheless both versions are infact very pretty.

Story: For those of you that say there is no story I'd have to give you a thumbs down its obvious that you didn't really pay attentiion to the story whilst your playing. This story is not weak by any chances it actually pulls you in I think half an hour into the game I was immersed into the story and I wanted more. There doesn't seem to be active plot holes though it would have been good to include the side missions in a little more I felt that department was lacking a tiny little bit in the story department. All up its a good story if your into that type of thing.

Playability: This is a new game new games always have server issues please be reminded of that. I think after midnight launch me and a friend were sitting playing together not talking just playing the next time I spoke was around 5 hours later even though we were in the same fireteam its a very immersive game. But I would also like to note this isnt Call of Duty nor is it WoW so when your playing it would be a good reminder of that. Of course there have been issues like: centepeide (this is a server error they are creative with names I even got a error code called cattle and sheep lol!) which they are actively fixing. I have to admit this game has some replayability too which is nice. Despite the errors this is definately replayable.

Gameplay: Before you argue about what its like take the time to also play borderlands. I think this falls under MMOFPS. Mind you compairing games is a bad thing in the first place. Gameplay is quite smooth especially with the leveling. Nothings really broken here which is nice. Though you might want to consider putting lvl20+ in thier own crucible Im sick of battling level9 and below no challenge haha.

Voicechat: I think it was a good idea that if you arent friends or in the same fireteam that you couldnt speak with other players it forces you to communicate with friends. though I did find multiplayer hard without communication I kinda just followed the pack situation. There were a couple of issues when using a headset I want to be able to lower the volume of the actual game which unfortuneately you cant.

    Verdict: 9/10

Would I reccomend?: I reccomend MMO fans to atleast give this game a try you wont be dissapointed. I don't reccomend this game if your one of those hardcore CoD fans you'll just end up **** about it on forums later.

All in all from a game developers standpoint it is a well done game and I think people should give this game a chance before dismissing it. Of course it has some flaws but all games do at least they tried to please. I'll definately be playing this game for a long time!

How can someone rip off their own game? The point is, it's a great game. However, it doesn't earn a ten. Yes, it was overhyped (ughh, I hate that word), and I know, you always have to be online, and yes, I am aware that missions aren't very fun without friends. But, those are my only complaints. Folks, after level 20, you're just getting started.

Lastly, I don't think Bungie "banned" reviews early; and certainly didn't intend to bolster sales by saying early reviews won't be indicative of the full game. What Bungie said is the truth. Destiny is still young; it's only been out a single week. Bungie will continue adding content and supporting those who play it. I think the best is yet to come.

--Small rant about other reviews below--
What I don't understand is folks rating this game a 0-3. To me, if you rate a game 0 to 3, something has to truly be wrong with your experience...like reeeally bad. I don't see anything in Destiny that could make it that awful for any one person. Additionally, when Bungie said Destiny really begins after level 20...they weren't kidding. Patience is required -- sure -- but that's no reason to rate something this great so low (personal opinion...obviously)

Destiny definitely is eye catching and the gameplay elements such as movement, abilities, weapons, shooting said weapons is definitely close to, if not perfect. Where the game seems to fall short for many, including me, is the story and how you are pushed through it with a lot of repetition. And by repetition I don't mean the shooting things, that I expect and enjoy immensely but more howDestiny definitely is eye catching and the gameplay elements such as movement, abilities, weapons, shooting said weapons is definitely close to, if not perfect. Or the bosses not really having any puzzles to them, their really just big bullet sponges that you need to shoot longer.

And the story is just not that poignant... I liked it and I know its barely just chapter one (Perhaps) and there's tons more to come but I never really felt my character mattered much. If not me, someone else could do all that and we'd be all safe anyways. I need more heroics!

Finally, the game IS damn fun to play if you're a fan of story/shooters and even though some complain about the 'retracing your steps' a lot, I actually quite enjoy it. I think its poetic justice that I can come back to Old Russia and annihilate the Fallen that killed me so many times while at low levels. AND I get to help friends or lowboys while being all badass looking.

Bungie has created a FPS that allows you to create their own game. Destiny is a game that introduces a new style of FPS that lets you decided the skill or path you want to take. This game lays the groundwork for video games in the next ten years. Even in its flaws (endless tunnels and repetitive characters) Destiny's game play is additive.

This is an updated review of Destiny. So this is a game that mixes together a lot of elements from other games. It is part fps, mmo, rpg, coop, and competitive game. The game is addicting because of its rich and unique pieces of new gear you get doing fun missions. The abilities presented in this game provide a unique way to tackle mission objectives. Overall: smooth game mechanics, interesting lore despite lacking in character development, beautiful graphics, and fun gameplay. Bungie has made other solid game. I would give it a 9 but I will give it a 10 to counter act the haters. Expand

I have no idea what happening in userscore section. Who all this people, that give "0" to Destiny? This game pretty amazing! I got exactly what i expect. Nice graphic, wonderful plot, revolutionary network part. If you have not internet access 24/7, what about just not buy Destiny?

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
