Why the hate? This game delivers on what was promised with flying colors, and its incredibly fun. I typically don't write reviews but after seeing all the "0" scores here I felt this injustice needed to be addressed. This is a high production value game that excels in gunplay, musical score, artistic direction, Multiplayer goodness.

I would highly recommend, I've been there for Halo 1 and 2, then retreated a bit from bungee titles. I'm back now with this excellent addition. I foresee many hours of fun with Destiny. Don't listen to the oddly misplaced hatred from people, this game delivers!

Destiny is a game for people looking for some social fun, pretty much what Halo delivered before, but Bungie expanded the formula a little bit (compared to Halo). It is a singleplayer game that you will never play alone (I know, I know, let me explain) and here's why – you can always focus on your own objectives, being a lone wolf and everything, other players on the map would act pretty much like background without interrupting your gameplay. I mean yes, probably a couple times you would end up exterminating same pack of enemies as someone else, but here's where Bungie's signature move kicks in – it's huge, the locations are so big you can always get away from other players and mind your own business, there is enough fun for everyone. The game doesn't burden you with 50+ times leveling up, you reach the cap relatively quick and instead focus on switching skills and subclasses on the fly. Not to mention that the game is really well-balanced.

Despite everything I said in the first paragraph, as a guy who always runs alone in almost every multiplayer game, I must urge you to find a teammate. Just one is already enough, but the more – the merrier. Bungie games always open up from a different side when you play it with someone (especially if you play with that person constantly) – you deal with missions easier (although enemies become harder and the loot dropped gets better), you fool around, have some laughs and generally have a lot of fun.

Then there is Crucible. Everything you did in the campaign, all your skills, your weapons and equipment – you keep it and take it to competitive multiplayer, which feels like a blend between CoD and Halo (in a good way). You still level up there and get new loot, everything you get in Crucible transfers to singleplayer and vice versa.
It's a great game to kickstart a new generation and definitely an ambitious project not to be missed.

I'm flabbergasted that so many people are rating this game below 7, let alone giving the game no marks/points whatsoever.

I've loved this game from the alpha onwards and look forward to it expanding and becoming a fanchise to rival all other AAA titles out there.

One more thing. People also complain that there is no offline mode. First off Bungie stated this from the very beginning. They said this game would be constantly online. If you have, then you knew there was no offline in the beginning so if you did not like the fact why get the game in the first place. That is like getting World of Warcraft and expecting there to be an offline mode. That being said you are NOT forced to play with anyone, you can play solo. Yes the open world environment has random players running around. But once you reach your mission location I.E. the point where you cannot respawn, then only you, or members in your fire team whom you have invited an enter that point with you. Seriously, the only category one could really argue against would be Fun Factor. Because just like beauty, it is in the eyes of the beholder.

My ratings, I feel are the core fundamentals of all games. Fun factor to me consists of many things, like if you like the story the that's being told etc. You might ask why would a reviewer not have "Story" as a rating. Well, what if there is no story? Like in a game like Tetris or Candy Crush?

Destiny hits on exactly what it intended on. Making an awesome & fun: online, Co-Op, MMO, Shooter. Destiny manages to bring console players together like never before. My friends list has grown exponentially since the launch of the full version of the game. I met a handful of “Guardians” in line while waiting to grab my copy of Destiny. And there it was…, I added a few new guardians to my friends list and then it happened. We started playing, exploring, and leveling up together. This is what hooked it for me. We started talking about our gear, where to find dead ghosts, showing each other where gold chests were, teaching each other new tricks and tactics, explaining how light works, talking about favorite TV shows, chatting about new movies, what new games we want…, and then it hit me….Destiny brings the social aspect of gaming to life like I’ve never experienced before. And, I’ve played other online games with friends before…., but this one is different. You can definitely play it solo, but it’s clearly meant to play with others. I can’t help but chuckle at the reviewers that complain about replaying levels. The experience of playing Earth when first starting your adventure is completely different when you’re a level 20+ with badass guns and gear. You instantly get a sense of.., well, feeling like you’re Billy Bad @ss! And it’s so self-rewarding, because you can clearly remember how difficult it was the first time you attacked that particular level vs. how you are owning fools after leveling up.

I could go on and on and on…., and I really am just scratching the surface with everything you can do, and everything I could write/review about. Oh, and Bungie is updating stuff (levels, missions, tweaks, gear, etc.) daily/weekly/monthly..., expansion packs…,

If you’re looking for a real review from a real game player, take mine. This game is really awesome, and if you take a deep dive into the world of Destiny, you won’t be disappointed.

    Good Luck Guardians!

This game did exactly what Bungie set out for it to do. It is the most fun gameplay experience I've had since Portal 2 ad everything fits perfectly into place. Honestly this game did recieve quite a bit of hype. It's a solid 7 to 8 as it could have more to the story than it does. One thing that cannot be denied is that it is fun. Someone on here played the game for 15 hours only to give it a 2. Now using common sense only an idiot would waste that much valuable time out of their lives.

RPG? Protip: Character development involves meaningful choices. There are virtually no RPG elements to this game. You have no skill paths, no influence on the story, and nothing that differentiates you from every other character beyond what gear you're wearing.

Sure, you can choose slight variations on skills as you level up - like do you want your grenade area to be bigger, or maybe have it deploy mini-grenades. That's not character development people. Yes, at higher levels you can choose the ONE sub-class or not. Woohoot.

So, it's a pretty decent FPS shooter with an okay story and Peter Dinklage mailing in some voice acting as the Ghost. But it is NOT an MMO or an RPG by any definition of those terms.

The locations are repetitive but the experiences in them are not. The lack of cutscenes is a nod towards that repetition. Nobody wants to group watch a bunch of video--they want to blow stuff up with their mates. I've seen outright errors in professional reviews--like the lack of ability to join up with random people you see online. You absolutely can. This game will keep me busy for a couple of months of 10 hour/week gaming. I don't like repetition. So who I am playing with and what sub-mission I am going after, or the surprise drop-in missions that started a couple of days ago all make the experience different enough to keep me coming back. Did Bungie start a game revolution? No way, but that's a pretty high bar for a 10. Expand

But maybe if people would stop expecting the world handed to them on a silver platter, and they took off their "critical glasses" for two seconds, they might enjoy themselves every once in a while. As for Destiny, it's not the greatest MMO or RPG or FPS, it doesn't have the most stunning graphics, the gameplay can get a bit 'grindy', etc, etc. However, at the end of the day, I enjoyed myself. If you buy this game expecting a COD type shooter, you won't like it as much and you'll give it a score of 6.0 or 0 or whatever. That's not really fair to rate a game based on the wrong expectations , but hey, that's why you're not a pro game reviewer and why user reviews don't matter. That'd be like be buying a driving simulator and expecting it to be like Burnout paradise crash and blasting all out arcade action game and being disappointed when you just feel like you're driving a real car. Some people like that, some people don't, but if it's accurate to what it's intended to be, it deserves an appropriate score.

Destiny, is kind of like it's own genre, and if you play it like it's intended to be played, it's an absolute blast. It's intended to be played with actual FRIENDS with a headset so you can use strategy, such as flanking and maneuvering to defeat the enemy and complete the objective. The "legitimate" low scores (not counting the 0's, 2's, 3's because that just insulting) are just people expecting a different style of game. If you like strategy and co-operative gameplay, and have friends that do as well, you're going to LOVE this game, once you get past the couple hour learning curve. It's truly amazing. This is my first Metacritic review because this is the first time I really felt the need to explain a game being that it is "different" than what a lot of people are expecting. The voice chat is set up so you can only talk to people in your fireteam because the levels are pretty big. hearing other fireteams would make it absolutely a confusing mess. If you happen to team up with another fireteam and mesh with them, add them as a friend and add them to your fireteam, or use the group chat feature on PS4 away from the game. It's pretty damn simple. If you try to play this game alone, you won't enjoy it as much and that will affect your decision. In that case, it's not a type a game for you, but for the type of game it is, it's an amazing new experience. It's a great game and easily a 9 possibly higher once I get even more in depth into the world.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
