I was waiting for Destiny for 2 years almost, and when all that hype builds up, you are not going to get what you thought. But for me I always tell myself to be calm (We all know this for Ghost). But I found the game to be addicting to the point were I would only stop if my body told me too. It might be because I was playing with friends all the time so we wanted to get to show off. But that also brings me to another point. This game was made to play with friends. If you are going to be a loner, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! You will be bored within the first two weeks. This is an FPS, RPG game NOT AN MMO. We all know this so don't call it an MMO.
Campaign: So the campaign is very short, about 8-10 hours if you play multiplayer and then go on to missions. It is much of a boring campaign and a boring story, no cliff hangers or nothing to look to but the end. When you beat the game all you get is a gun..... That is it. It is a 5/10 very boring and grindy.
Multiplayer: So this is what this game was made for in my opinion. Very fast paced multiplayer if playing on the smaller maps. Can be really fuging fun if you going HAM on noobs, but if not, it is a very bad time in your life. People who play this game are very stupid and do not get how to play the gamemode or how important flags are. They are always bad teammates on your team when you play solo. But one thing that is cool that all the gear you get in Campaign goes to multiplayer. It is balanced so you won't get pooped on in that way. There is a game mode for that. Like a regular FPS you got a fasted paced game with the add-ons of super's which are like you special killstreak for the class you play. These add a lot of fun to the game but they are very annoying when you get spammed with them. The Hunter class is the best by far in PVP which they need to fix.
So in all this game is a 8/10 - 4/5 for me. As a fan of cod and of Halo 2 - Halo:Reach this game is fun and addicting for those Diablo players and CoD players. Halo fans will hop on the train too with Bungi making a game and not 343 studios. (Halo 4 sucked) So if you liked fasted paced games, and games were you put in the time you get the bigger dime ;) then you will like this game. Since so much is in the game it is just better if you play it for a week straight and if you do not like it by the end then just return the damn thing and move on with life. :D

To keep this plain and simple, Destiny is personally a fantastic game and completely depends on a player's personal opinion. The game is completely online and in turn makes for a great 'social-network'. Destiny is far from a perfect game, but indefinitely a step in the right direction. It is true that in fact the story is bland and there is a ton of grinding involved, but if you are able to play with friends, it makes it all the easier.

The fact that users have left reviews at 0 saying "It was okay." is pretty pathetic. The game deserves an honest rating and in complete honesty, can only be determined by personal preference.

In short, lot of grinding involved, story is bland, fun multiplayer, very enjoyable with friends.
A lot can be expected from a sequel to Destiny, and will in future become one of the best selling game series yet.

Al those fast low rated critic reviews are based on the story missions and a couple of crucible games, but there is NO WAY they could have ever played every class and subclass until level 30 with all light gear and stuff, let alone playing the raids.

I think Destiny became a victim of the hype, everyone comparing it to a World of Warcraft type of FPS, naming it an MMO, and even though I would have loved it if that would be the case, Bungie named it an open world shooter, and that’s what it is. A wonderful world to explore. A game with a beautiful soundtrack and visuals. It feels so good to shoot in this game, I can’t compare it to any other FPS I have ever played.

The available content in this game is enough to keep you busy for long time… I often wonder what do to next. Shall I do another mission on level 20 of 24, or do I want to do another strike. Maybe a crucible match.. control? Clash? Will I be doing these stuff as a Hunter, Warlock or Titan, will I be trying another subclass etc etc etc.. so much to do and try, I’ll won’t be playing another game anytime soon.

Only downside for me is the “invisible walls” this game has, for example; There are places you can’t jump on, even though you know you could easily made a jump to it, the invisible wall won’t let you do it.
Still… If I had to pick one word for this game it would be “crisp”.

Overall, this game is a lot of fun, whether you'll be playing it co-op with your friends or as a lone wolf.

Just look at WoW's patchnotes after the 11.11.2004 release, a game like this is being build in time, dont expect it to be the "final" version at release. For me WoW's "final" version comes with every new xpac.

Another thing, i've played BF, COD and those games are made for the multiplayer purpose, any of those games have a very limited time of campaign (good/bad it doesn't matter since the core of the game stands in the multiplayer). Look at the most beloved Dragon Age, a beautiful story, with no multiplayer ... why do you think its like that ?

Destiny's core stands in the multiplayer, PVP/STRIKES/RAIDS, so judge it from that PoV. Long grinding endgame ?!?! (well wtf Diablo and WoW and all other games on the planet are then ?).

For the moment I love the game, since it feels more casual then WoW is and that fits me just fine.

This game is fantastic. Pretty recently, it has been difficult for me to find a game that keeps my interest for very long. However, Destiny hits the spot by being a game that delivers great shooting mechanics wrapped up in a package with so much to do. I've enjoyed this game a lot and I'm sure that you will too. Please give this game a shot.

Aside from the graphics I was mesmerized by the ambiance and the soundtrack and how they really made it immersive without menus and interruptions. I noticed that most of the missions involved reaching a goal and surviving waves of enemies. They don't have the greatest AI ever written but they are definitely a challenge playing solo. I felt thoroughly stressed and panicked in particularly hard no-respawn zones but winning always felt like a bit of a rush, sort of like dark souls 2.

The multiplayer was frustrating when I played because I really did not understand the capabilities of human players. Often I was just a casualty of some super charged attack that I couldn't have seen coming, or players would kill me in one hit. It seemed very similar to the halo series on the multiplayer, but much smaller. I really like the customization of appearance and gear, even though they balance it in MP.

Overall I feel like it is a pretty great game. For those of you who seem disappointed, they are more than likely to address your concerns in future expansions / sequels to Destiny. For example the first halo games were definitely not perfect, but they improved gradually until it became a masterpiece.

I'm sure there's people like you and me behind Metacritic but they're not doing anyone any favors. You want to know if you'd like a game? play it. watch someone play it. or watch things like Zero Punctuation - Yahtzee doesn't give out scores because he understands whether or not something is good is not something that can be communicated in a single numerical value. Anyway, Metacritic, out of business, fingers crossed. FFS.

Is this game over-hyped? Yes, but let's be serious. This is a great looking game with near perfect UI and IS a different game at level 20. (I reached 20 a few days ago). The criticism is more overblown than the games.

Great voice acting creepy but nice atmosphere, feels just like a halo game (it was made by bungee) and has good graphics. Nice weapons but it needs some kind of special mode and everything else is mediocre however the story also has a nice touch of not too fast, it's multiplayer is bland and needs more fast paced action. But overall good game 8.5/10

This is a very fun game. Its like having a shooter MMO on console. And by all means compare it to an MMO, but remind yourself its not. It does share ALOT in common with MMOs however and thats its strong points. But like MMOs it lacks in a few departments. So hopefully the game sees some fine tuning and polishing in the next months.

Its not a game changer, but theres still fun times to be had.

    Pros:
    1. Gorgeous game! Let's all be honest here. Destiny is a gorgeous looking game.
    2. I personally enjoy PvE more than PvP so a Pro for someone like me is how well the PvE aspects work. Three's company comes to mind. 3 works well for story, patrol, or strike fireteams. Also, not everyone is a god at PvP so it's nice to have the co-op PvE option. 3. First Person view just feels

    3. First Person view just feels comfortable and right. Who hasn't enjoyed a game or two of CoD-like games? FPSes are fun and feel immersive so Destiny's FPS aspect felt comfortable right out the door.
    4. No expense spared with voice talent (probably the reason for a good half of the cost of making this game even - lol). The voices are recognizable actors/actresses from shows/movies you've seen before. It's pretty cool. I happen to be one of those that also realize Peter Dinklage's voice role is that of a robot so I don't expect the "Wheatley" type character out of my ghost. I expect it to be drone-like. It's how he was directed so people should leave it alone.
    5. Character outfits/armor diversity is strong. From the moment I started, I felt generally pleased with how utilitarian my character looked. In time - as you level up, the armor gets better textures and designs. Each class also has its own unique set of diverse armor/item looks.

    Cons:
    1. Patrol missions are not as diverse as one would hope when bounties are matched with patrol mission based bounties and you are forced to do the same things over and over again. It's forgivable since the outcome of completing a bounty is worth it still but it would be nice if the missions were more exciting, diverse, or even had more meaning. This is not a game breaker by any means though. Still, I would consider it the most "grindy" part of the game.
    2. No auction/trading system. This is also not a game breaker to me since I want to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt for a while to see how this plays out. The problem is that part of the fun of loot is that you can sell it for profit in a game usually. That idea also has its own flaws though so I want to see how this concept turns out. Either way, you get a lot of armor and weapons and parts/pieces from the worlds that you can't sell/trade.
    3. No non-friend social features like chat. This one is a no brainer really. I'm not sure why a chat feature wasn't implemented in The Tower AND out on Patrols or Story Missions where you can come across other players. Anything would be better than nothing and there is currently nothing. Try on proximity chat, text chat to nearby players, etc. This is a very basic part of any multiplayer game like this - where social areas are created but basic social tools are missing.
    3. Enemy diversity is lacking a bit. I have heard from others on this subject saying enemies are the same old re-used creatures scattered around the planets. This is true for the story arc that involves fallen and hive. Once you get to Mars, the enemy you fight changes. I won't say how but it does so that is good but I am listing this as a con since I do feel the enemy diversity could be more broad in general as well.

Overall, I am having a blast with this game and I really hope Bungie doesn't give up on it after such poor reviews all-around. The internet is an unforgiving place though and the world lives around/on/in the internet so I guess this is the direction the human species is heading. Bungie has a long-term plan for this game and it will include many expansions/updates that will broaden its boundaries so let's hope the future turns the haters into lovers of the game - for my sake.

Do yourself a favor and block out everything that has been said, to include the hype, and be your own judge. With that said, lets jump in. Destiny is (of course in my opinion) an amazing game with lots to offer. I personally cannot put it down. I had my reservations coming into the world that is Destiny, but I'm glad I did. Destiny is an a brilliantly, well manicured, masterpiece from a visual standpoint. The gameplay and control you feel in the game is top notch. To be expected from a group like Bungie of course. The more you put in, the more you get out. Its seems the deeper I dive into the game the better it gets, which is what we all want with any game, right? Its a slow start and takes some getting used to, mostly due to the fact that there is not a lot of explanation or guidance along your journey, not to mention a story line that falls short of great and nowhere near the potential that Bungie has. Especially given the baseline of the Destiny story leaves potential for incredibly epic storytelling. And lets not sell ourselves short here either, we have merely only begun to scrape the surface of what Destiny is and will be. It can only get better from here, Bungie will not sit by and this be all Destiny is, it is a constantly changing and growing world with endless possibilities, and the good news is, we have the best in the business to ensure that. All in All, I am personally already having a blast with this game in all areas, from MP, to solo story missions, to patrols, strikes, public events, all the way down to the decisions that define who my guardian is and will become. But don't take my word for it, discover Destiny on your terms with an open mind and see for yourself. - Jake The Jinxed (Xbox One) Expand

Let's start off with what’s good: the game is obscenely beautiful, not every game makes me want to just stop and look at what the artists have pulled off, even visiting the same areas multiple times I still just love to look around, it's freaking beautiful, the music gives me chills, it’s SO GOOD.
The combat is insanely fun, it feels polished and it's satisfying to ka-blam aliens with my shotgun or scout rifle (literally obsessed with that thing). Even encountering the same "mobs" over again isn't tedious which is an issue I have with a lot of MMOs, you get real tired of those nerds attacking you every time you walk through that area. I don’t even know what else to say about the combat, it’s really fun; Bungie is the master of fun FPS. But with the Strikes and Weekly missions, it get REALLY DAMN HARD. I wasn't expecting it to be so hard, it’s great. Even attempting the high level story missions is tricky, lower level stuff is pretty easy but with the hard modes the enemies just overwhelm you with numbers and being freaking bullet sponges.

I think a lot of people were expecting something else from this game, I think some people were expecting an expansive MMO Space-Skyrim (seriously, I think some people were expecting that?) you'll be disappointed that it’s pretty small environment-wise as of now; I don't have much of an issue with it, but a lot of other people might.
People were also expecting it to be an MMO, and it's not; funnily, the random encounters with other players reminds me of Journey, just think Journey but you shoot aliens.
But if you bought it expecting an MMO you'll be disappointed. The game is more like Diablo 3 and Borderlands. With that said; instead of relying on drops for rare loot you can grind for currency (the marks, coins, motes, glimmer is eeeeaaasy to get) and purchase armor that's JUST as good as something you'll find or win in a Strike or PVP, and I really dig it; I lost my mind killing the same boss over and over again in Borderlands hoping a gun I want would drop.
But yeah, there is grinding in this game, getting the PVP and PVE marks kind of reminds me of gathering weekly tombs in FFXIV, and it’s definitely a grind; if you aren't into the currency/mark grind you would probably hate it. Actually if you don’t like grinding I would suggest a different game, it’s fun for some weird people like me but there are people who haaaate it. For me it’s the perfect amount of grinding, it’s not too insane and the game also does not hand you everything.

Also the PVP? It’s fun, there are the regular issues nearly every PVP game has that I hate which is: I suck at it. But I actually keep going back to play it, it’s really fun and you actually get rewards if you kind of suck. I hope Bungie can fix the cheating issues though, that’s a bummer, why do people cheat with stuff like that? C’mon, why even play the game…

And finally my main issue with the game: the story is mediocre. Bungie should have spent the money on a sci-fi author rather than Paul McCartney doing a song. The lore is interesting and cool but the story was just executed badly and the writing could have been way better, especially when they have Halo to live up to story-wise (which was my favorite thing about Halo). Also, I really think the Grimoire Cards should be in game. The lore they provide is interesting and I’m not going to stop playing to go onto the internet to read them, I was reading them on my break at work haha. Games like Dishonored did an excellent job with the books throughout the game or Bioshock's audio logs with back-story and lore, that’s how you do it; the lore is part of the game, it should be inside the game in some way.
But yeah, if you were counting on Destiny to have the best plot ever, you will be pretty disappointed. Hope they can improve with the expansions.

The game does have some small issues I’m not really going to get into, there are already plenty of negative reviews, and if you don't like something about it, you're probably not going to change your mind.
But really, it’s nothing they can’t fix without additional patches and added content, I hope everyone else who’s playing with it will stick around to see what they add and improve upon, most “MMO” online games have a bumpy road at launch, a la Diablo 3 ;p.

Hope my review was helpful for someone!

I can't help but compare it to my favorite games, such as Borderlands, Skyrim, and of course Halo. The game wows me every time I play it. In the end, don't we just play games to have fun? No, it's not perfect, but Destiny is downright fun!

Destiny has a simple premise, you are known as a "Guardian", protecting humanity, which has been driven back by alien races, and you know stand at the last city of Earth. You choose one of three classes, Titan, Warlock, or Hunter. Next, you choose your race, Awoken, Human, or Exo. This is a pretty standard layout for an MMO but Destiny takes it to a whole new level by involving something we all love -- guns. Destiny is definitely a solid MMORPGFPS if that is what you choose to call it. It feels like "Halo" felt before, but strips away the icon of Master Chief and lets you build your own legend. It has different planets and different gamemodes, such as story missions, strikes (layered battles with oncoming waves of enemies, best done with friends and leave you with rewards), raids (like strikes but can take hours or days, much better rewards and much more in depth when it comes to tactics and organization), and of course the crucible (online multiplayer). Destiny is visually appealing, has optimal customization leaving you searching for more gear and loot, and has enemies from different backgrounds. Despite having a short story selection it has endgame options that allow you to extend your enjoyment of the game. Destiny has weaknesses as well as strengths though. Although it is a mass-mulltiplayer online game, communication is lacking as you can only voice chat within your fireteams (Emotes are your only other option). The story missions can be quite repetitive, and there is not as much personality within the characters as was seen in the Halo series. The loot reward system is flawed as well, decrypting high level engrams usually leaves you with less-than-stellar gear. Despite these issues, Destiny is a fun and engaging experience that I would recommend one at least try. Bungie will be adding more content in the future as well, so don't expect early reviews like mine to sum up the game in its entirety. Bungie has created a very expandable game that will most likely expand as time goes on. Expand

I am not really worried about this as much as some people are....it reminds me very much of Diablo where you farm for gear in a story mode environment. Some have also compared it to Phantasy Star Online as well.
    _____

With my cons out of the way, let me just say that this game is fun. The fun factor trumps and can forgive the few cons that I have. This may not be the same case for everyone, but running around blowing heads off gaining loot, upgrading gear, grinding factions, doing strikes with friends, doing crucible with friends, and just exploring for the chests and dead ghosts is the most fun I have had with a game in a very very long time.

The music and sound effects in the game are great. The sound is immersive and you can hear the mobs all around you, the machines that fire their weapons. The large mobs sound large, the small mobs sound small. The snozberries taste like snozberries....it is great fun.

Some people are going to hate to just hate. In my 30 years of living I have realized there are just negative people out there who pick apart everything. If you can find something good and and enjoyable in the game and it keeps you playing then play it. Instead of finding things that make you miserable find things that make you happy in life. I believe this game haves a little of everything for everyone so....

If you are not one of the millions of people who already have bought the game and you read this write up...then I say it is worth the $60.00. And if you do get it, then I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I think the thing that pains me about this game is it could easily have been a solid 10/10 had the story been done a bit better. The setting for this game is outstanding. Easily one of the most intriguing of any shooter or RPG, and to have it on the next gen consoles is just astonishing. The game is beautiful, the gameplay is smooth and crisp, and the crucible is a lot of fun. This DOES NOT ruin the game in my personal opinion. Not even close. This game is flat out addicting. It has so much wrong, yet it pulls you in. I think this is what upset me so much regarding the story, because again, this game could easily be a 10/10 and potential game of the year. Overall, I really like destiny. It's a beautiful game that is somehow addicting and even though I've never been the biggest fan of shooters, this one pulled me in. Expand

I'm honestly too busy having fun playing this game to write a full review. I took the time to investigate the game before it came out, I got everything I expected from it and more.

I'm having an unbelievably great time playing with friends new and old. I can see myself playing this game for a very long time as it is far deeper than it appears on the surface.

    I love it. 9/10

Well, I've been playing this game for over a week now, and while not all of my expectations were met, I think Bungie still pulled off something pretty impressive. The nicest way of putting this is "they left plenty of room for improvement." "Destiny" has the makings of something great, but all of the greatness has not been made yet, and Bungie should listen attentively to the more reasonable negative player feedback that they've received. That said, I'm continuing to enjoy the game, and think that its graphical fidelity, fun gameplay style, and overall gorgeous presentation makes it well worth playing.

    What's good:
-Great overall feel for an FPS.
    -Cool weapons and armor.
    -Space magic.
    -Beautiful Environments.
    -Great voice cast.
    -Simple but consuming leveling system.
    -More space magic.
    -Dinklage

    What's bad:
-Poorly explained universe: This game needed a codex like Mass Effect, which leads me to...
-Grimoire Cards: Dear Bungie, don't make me use a web browser to look at the cards that somewhat explain the universe. That is all.
-Remember that great voice cast? Now imagine a game where they barely say anything...except for Dinklage.
-A story that is most definitely about something, I think. Maybe? It wasn't so great.
    -Total lack of character development.
    -Limited Loot.
    -Level cap too low.

Even with the list of gripes above (which are by no means the extent of them), I still like "Destiny" a lot. Bungie has created a breathtaking game world, and it seems like the sort of world that's designed to be expanded, and so I think there's a pretty good chance that the "Destiny" universe will be expanded to include more planets and (hopefully better) stories in the future. It's a very fun experience overall, and while it didn't quite live up to all the hype, its strengths outweigh its weaknesses by far.

There is so much negative talk about this game. For what? Not a single critic gave a Negative review. I am always opened to everyone's opinion, but anyone who gave this game below a 5 has to at least pick up a controller again and give it one more chance.

This game provided me with tons of fun, It gave me the feel of when I first played Halo and added the mmo aspect. Even with most of my game time was playing by myself, I really enjoyed the game play. With the open events to the Strike Missions that provided plenty of loot and xp, and now the 6 player raids that just came out, I am excited to see what is to come to the great journey of Destiny
I do have some cons for this game. I play most of my games on pc, but I went out and bought an Xbox one for this game. I do wish there was some type of chat to make it easier to group up. I do know there are websites out there to help with the community and grouping that you can join, and I will certainly be looking into that. But over all I really enjoyed this game and still do.

Destiny isn't the messiah of modern gaming that some hoped it would be, but it's still a lot of fun.

The missions themselves feel a bit repetetive and the story that is told throughout the game feels a bit lackluster but the great gunplay keeps you interested and engaged during the missions and there is just enough story to make you want to know more about the world.

Where the game shines is in all the elements it takes from MMOs. A loot system that is part chance and part effort, dungeon runs with pick up groups and fast PVP that's either objective based or (team) deathmatch.

The technical side is also flawless. Graphics, sound and music are out of this world and the networking seems solid, I at least didn't get disconnected even once. The action is also very well designed with the guns and special abilities having just the right feel to it.

All in all I would rate Destiny 7.5, but since that's not possible here and since I'm gonna give it some props for the potential it shows for future expansion I'm gonna round up to 8.

PROS: Beautiful graphics and a seamless and never-before-seen co-op experience for console gaming. Also, the game brings back the original Halo feel of fun co-cop gameplay with your friends. The RPG element is fun, though lacking some depth in certain areas.

Haven't played much of it but gotta say it's similar to Halo just in a different way. Even though Destiny didn't get the praise it deserves, still you should keep your eyes on the game for a bit as expansion packs will be out later this year and could offer new experiences we haven't seen before.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
