It does seem to lack some content at the moment, it could do with larger areas on each planet (because we are talking entire planets here and only a single "location" on each to explore) and more planets. We have 8 of them, plus the dwarf planet just in our system... so the amount of areas are severely lacking. It is a good game, and it will get better... but you might want to wait on getting it until it has more content. he gameplay is good, the PvP needs a lot of work, all in all, it is a decent game. PS4 version gets one extra point over XBOne version for having extra content, as the game needs it. Expand

i like the game and my 60-70 bucks was an investment in hoping they add more stuff in the future like all games do. the only thing i agree with as far as all the bad reviewers is that the story is hard to follow and i really only found myself realizing i was on a story mission, besides the 1st mission was when i was well into being level 6 and on the moon, so its not a story that makes youi like the game and my 60-70 bucks was an investment in hoping they add more stuff in the future like all games do. the only thing i agree with as far as all the bad reviewers is that the story is hard to follow and i really only found myself realizing i was on a story mission, besides the 1st mission was when i was well into being level 6 and on the moon, so its not a story that makes you want to keep up with it(so far) and the voice chat requirments are annoying. not being able to chat with anyone unless they are already a friend or on a fireteam with you but im able to solo everything so far and have died once, so its ok for now and will just hope my friends get the game later on or they introduce some other chat feature to make it easier to group with random people. i can tolerate COD which use to be just spamming nazis with grenades and machine guns, so i can handle this game and find it fun

    (UPDATE)
I am now a level 26 warlock, still hated the story but when playing with the 1 friend i made so far and any other random people then i do find it fun while trying to get better gear and doing missions and strikes over again for rewards. I use to play WoW when that was big and was completely prepared to only do pvp or raids for the endgame content constantly and that had 10 million players. i find this 1,000 times better looking and even more fun with other people even if they are not your friends. also people call them a money grab and they might be but im obviously excited over any DLC content they have and this game is still a 7 in my book, maybe the expansions might bring it up a bit. just improving or re-doing the story could make this game better

A decent game but for the £500 million spent on it and the hype around it, it was a big disappointment. I personally would not advise people to spend their money on this game it could and should be so much better.

This game is way better then what most people say. First off ill start with the mechanics, very similar to Halo, which means that they are good, everything is very responsive. Yeah their isn't really a story, but i'm not one for stories in games so if you are remember, this is no story at all. A lot of people complain about the cost of the DLC but if you compare destiny to other MMO's, which it is marketed as, $60 for the game and $35 for the expansions over 7 months equates to paying about 14$ a month. Which is pretty standard for an MMO. Now if you count the 5 or so months until the next expansion, the price gets even lower. As for the negative comments about the game being "Grindy" well yeah it is, and once again it was marketed as an MMO. The problem is most people just want to be handed stuff today, so i guess having to work for it would be disappointing. Finally, the game is not perfect they could use more maps in the multiplayer and more variety in the strikes. My biggest gripe with this game is the fact that almost all of the content in the end game is cheesed. This takes away any challenge and any fun and also contributes to the fact that people say that the game is boring. Expand

The music, the architecture, graphics and the GAMEPLAY! Yeah, this is a gameplay for a shooter! + great RPG elements. The things that dissapointed me: 1. THE STORY - I wanted more, more story and more storytelling :( 2. The lack of more content (I didnt brought the DLC cus Im not paying 35 euros for that lack of content DLCs). 3. Its addictive, yes, the game is addictive for some time. If you like MMOs this is good for you, but if you like more single player games, ok, you may try, but possibly youll be dissapointed. Let me start off by saying that I understand why some people are disappointed. But, while Destiny may seem lackluster in some regards, that is far from the truth.

Destiny is, at it's core, is a very gameplay driven experience. Any one who played the Halo trilogy will probably understand the genius of the subtle AI variety between different types of enemies, and the extremely polished shooting and movement mechanics that have been implemented here. The gameplay has elements like these that, to the uncritical eye, may seem "dull" or "boring", but upon further examination have an immense amount of thought put into them. As well, the game has a surprisingly robust RPG character management layered in. On top of this, the fact that your guardian perfectly fits into a multiplayer arena, that at launch seems to have very little balancing issues, is an astonishing feat of game making that only a studio like Bungie or Rockstar could pull off. So, what about the story?

Well, A wouldn't even say that Destiny has a "Narrative" per say. It's more of an layered back story and current world state that you are dropped into. If you are looking for something like what Halo or Bioshock brings to the table story-wise, look elsewhere because that is not what is being offered here. Like I said earlier, this is a gameplay driven experience, like Counterstrike, or Pac Man. But unlike those titles, Destiny puts one of the most exhilarating coats of paint I have ever seen in my 15 years of gaming on top of this core experience.

The presentation. Wow, just wow. The atmosphere, the immersion, the sound, just about everything presentation wise is nothing short of brilliant. Never have I been pulled into a console game this much just due to how it presents itself. The rustic wasteland of Old Russia, the creepy baroness of the moon, the wide open dunes of mars, and a handful of other locales all look (and play) very uniquely. Not to mention the incredibly varied ambiance that exists in each area (props to the audio team). It is a combination of the gorgeous visuals and deeply layered sound design that really transcend all the other elements of the game. And obviously Marty O'Donnell can not be overlooked here, he delivers as usual with a soundtrack that is both atmospheric and energetic. Never has a game that is so gameplay driven, given me this much incentive to stop and smell the roses.

I hope I have gotten my point across: It is the subtle things that Bungie delivers in droves with Destiny. So take your time with this game, enjoy the environments and the lore which drip with atmosphere, because Bungie has managed to create a very rich experience without the shackles of a typical narrative. You make your own story, so have a little imagination and appreciate the world that is Destiny. Any one who loves playing games, and who truly appreciates the craft of game making, should buy Destiny in a heartbeat. It is reminiscent of Halo: Combat Evolved in how simple, yet complex it can be. On the surface, it is amazing fun to just shoot aliens in the face with big guns, but underneath that surface, a truly interesting and intriguing universe exists, begging to be explored. I honestly believe that this game is a masterpiece, and I expect very high critical praise once the reviews start rolling in. Props to Bungie and everyone involved in the project.

    - LFG is great, but lacks in some areas. Please, Bungie, please... just make every strike and raid fall under matchmaking. You get all these folks out there that defend Nightfall, VoG, and Crota's End for not falling under matchmaking, because somehow it would make the game easier if it were? I'm sorry, but not having a job and a family to take care of doesn't make you "hard core" or make the game any more challenging to you. Matchmaking is essential for me, and many others, because I just don't have the time (or the amount of personal online friends) to start my own group or wait to join one. You don't hurt anyone by making all content LFG. Just do it.

Other than these two issues, this is the best game on current-gen consoles and is one of the best games I have ever played, period.

The game had lots of pre-orders and a lot of hype, even more than games like WATCH_DOGS and the PC port of Grand Theft Auto V. However, Destiny is not only the most disappointing game of 2014, but maybe even the most disappointing game of the decade. There is so much things you can't do in Destiny that should of been there. For example, why can't I trade items? Why is the RNG so bad and extremely Unfair? Why are there so many One Shot Kill weapons in PvP? This makes we wonder if they were actually using all of it for this or if they decided to use more than half of it for another game? However, Destiny isn't a great game, so anybody who gives this game above an 8/10 is crazy. However, anybody who gives this game lower than a 4/10 is crazy. The overall way the combat feels is excellent and is easy to pick up. However that is as far as the praise will go. You will find yourself spending a majority of your experience grinding for hours on end just to get better loot. The RNG loot system is completely ridiculous and requires no skill or effort to get better items, just great amounts of luck and hours of killing the same enemies over and over. Game play is also very repetitive, it's the same formula through the whole game. Just kill waves and waves of the same enemy till you get the next objective. The amount of defend missions that are used in this game is ridiculous, it's as if the developers just gave up half was through and chose to give us nothing innovative by way of game play.

The story is extremely bland and does little in immersing the player, it refuses to explain anything that is going on because the writers were too damn lazy to do it themselves. And the so called 'character customization' is downright insulting, the amount of options available to the customization is bare bones, leaving you with a character who is just as generic and boring as everyone else you see.

Boss battles are very anti climactic and require no strategy to win. The enemy variety is very small and none of them are introduced properly.

The art design and environments are beautiful, which is a pity because there is zero incentive to actually explore the world around you because you receive nothing for doing so.

The multiplayer is probably the most amount of fun i had for my whole experience. Which isn't saying very much because of how low the bar was set, it managed to entertain me for a few hours. But just like the campaign it becomes a repetitive flow with nothing that stands out.

Overall Destiny is nothing but a generic fps game that delivers nothing by way of innovation. There are a number of games out there like this that cost less and deliver much more fun than you will ever get from Destiny. However those of you who enjoy endless grinding will have the time of your lives. But if you're a person who likes a strong story coupled with interesting and diverse game play. Then Destiny is not the game for you.

The reason to play this game is, currently, PvP. There's a variety of modes and there's no better shooter out right now for the PS4. In addition to that, the soundtrack and sound design are excellent.

The PvE, however, leaves much to be desired. Enemy AI is incredibly simplistic, so shooting aliens in the face gets tiring very quickly. Story missions are incredibly repetitive, and playing the same strikes over and over gets repetitive as well. DLC content is sparse, but you must buy it in order to level past 30. Destiny's PvE suffers incredibly due to monotony, and needs new content if it is to remain competitive.

The story also leaves much to be desired. It is clear from the Grimoire Cards that Destiny has great lore, yet none of this shows up in the game. Destiny's poorly-written, barely-there story is a disappointment, but something that can still be improved upon in future installments.

Destiny's PvE gets boring fast, and its story is subpar at best, yet its RPG elements and great mechanics make it fun to play regardless. There is much room for improvement in future single-player and PvE content, but if you enjoy the genre, Destiny is worth purchasing.

I’m not gonna go into all the pros and cons since they can be found in any other review. I just quickly wanna tell you guys why Destiny isn’t better than a 7 out of 10 for me.

The major reason is its lack of content and things to do, thus resulting in a mindless grind, sooner or later.
There practically isn’t any story to be found, so we can forget that part.
The few strikes that are available are a blast to play, but there are just five of them. Pretty quickly you get tired of them... which removes them from the to-do list, too.
I personally hate PvP, so this feature got removed from my to-do list right from the start. But I heard that the PvP is supposed to be quite good... again, for a while.
My biggest disappointment was the raid. I’ve waited so long to be finally able to actually get into the Vault of Glass (name of the raid) just to find out that it’s plain boring. Please remember, this is my personal opinion. Lots of people love the raid but for me it marked the beginning of the end for me and Destiny.

It’s such a shame since the gameplay and the shooting mechanics are so much fun. The graphics are awesome too and the sound and music could hardly be better.
But all this counts for nothing if there’s nothing to do except to do the same strike, mission, raid over and over and over again… tedious and boring.

Out of protest I’m not gonna buy the expansions since their value is questionable at best… again, in my opinion. Perhaps I pick up Destiny in the future again but at the moment I have no desire whatsoever to continue the mindless grind.

Honestly though what's not ok is that it was promised and advertised by the developers to be a lot more and including of which to having a story and not being like Titanfall yet it failed to have pretty much very little if any and even to none at some points as well as ending up being pretty much another Titanfall in terms of its single player campaign, promises that were made, and the hype it also got but in the end failed as well. In fact one can say destiny fails on almost every level as far as being a full game and at having any of the strengths of of an MMO, Fact is even MMOs have a lot more storyline and lore to them then this game does which is sad because normally it's the other way around when comparing regular AAA titles to MMOs. Thers to much wrong in this game to even bother and I will say that because of titles recently like Destiny and Titanfall I will never buy a collectors edtion and season pass on top of that on DAY ONE since nowadays you never know if your even gonna get a full game or just ahalf a game that is basically just multiplayer mode that's designed to just grab more money from online players and nothing else. beautifully bland... lacks any kind of real content, the only reason i played so much (200 hours) was the hope that more was going to be added...i was wrong.. could have been amazing, but its really dull devoid of any real character, the shooting is great although the enemies never really change. the missions are a total rehash of each other. the enemies are really really dull. utterly, beautifully bland... lacks any kind of real content, the only reason i played so much (200 hours) was the hope that more was going to be added...i was wrong.. could have been amazing, but its really dull devoid of any real character, the shooting is great although the enemies never really change. the missions are a total rehash of each other. the enemies are really really dull. utterly, utterly, utterly disappointing, even more disapointing that developers are treating gamers like fools. disgusting.
no reason to explore as there is nothing to find. Everyone i know that owns destiny have traded it in already or just plain discarded it, the ones that have prepaid the expansion will be shortly.

I was also stupid enough to buy the 'expansion' on preorder..what a sick joke, stuff that is already on the disc. no new enemies, i would like a refund.the destiny disc is the most expensive tea coaster ive ever bought.
I cant believe there is talk of a sequel when this is so unfinished.

Its easy to see what Bungie intended however after 100+hrs and the first DLC its clear Bungie are not in control. Its broken and lacks scope and is very sparse. The game itself is made up of tiny story levels and is over all too quickly and thats when the games main issue raises its ugly head. The daily grind which sucks the life out of you. You spend a few hours doing your daily bountys and the daily mission, you hit the vanguard mark cap on the first day and then you spend the rest of the week just wishing for the weekly reset.

Its too easy to give this game a high score if it is based upon a quick playthrough but it doesnt deserve to much of a negative review as it is a game that works and you will want to beat it. However i dont think the boardroom realised how much and how fast the players were going to chew up and spit out what they deemed should be enough and have placed this "protentially amazing" franchise in a seriously dangerious place with their core market.

Can be fixed but has it been killed off already by tightfisted business?

Got the "Destiny" bundle PS4 because of all the hype and initial reviews. This is the lamest and most predictable game with bad user control. The story is boring and poorly done. To make matters worse, Activision is now wanting people to purchase expansion packs. Graphics are just okay, and sound is nothing special either. I'm bored and uninterested in this game. Destiny seems like it's designed to see how little content a game can have and still keep players active, with endless grinding and slot-machine tactics.

    Pros:
    Very good mechanics.
Good graphics. Fun weapon designs. Enjoyable PvP Cons: The story is weak and poorly constructed. I hadn't played an FPS shooter in several years and was able to complete the main campaign in a week, only playing an hour or two after work. The DLC was done so poorly it makes you wonder if Bungie has anyone who has ever played a MMO style game left on

I would not recommend buying this game or its DLC's at full price.

I am giving this game a 4/10 as the base chassis of this game still has a great deal of promise, if I were simply basing it on Bungie/Activision's behavior since launch, I would give it a 0.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
