So. I have sunk 34 hours into this game since launch, and believe that my opinion does count.

You will not enjoy this game if you're trying to play it on your own. It's an MMO after all which requires you to be social to discuss strats and generally, have some fun. We've died, screamed and laughed together (new clan and friends met via it) and we still come back for more.

The game really starts after level 20 where the Heroic modifier is activated, the Nightfall strikes are activated along with weeklies, dailies and strike playlists. I have maxed out my vanguard for the week which shows how much of the after 20 content I've played.

There is a lot of hate for this game, especially in metacritic. One review I found was along the lines of "I'd give this game an 8, but because there is a few good reviews, I'll even it out with a 2". In all seriousness, that is a joke.

Very much looking forward to the future with this one, including the Raids which are opened on the 16th. Should be incredible fun.

My recommendation? Don't buy if you're not a social gamer and are not into the 'grind' of typical MMO's. You will not find this fun. If you do get it, please join a clan, make new on-line friends and have a blast.

I give this game a 9 - Purely due down to the story could be a bit deeper and the little grindy end game content (currently).

I've been playing games since 1984 across a slew of different platforms. Over the years I've come across a few gems. When asked what my favourite game is I usually reply Skyrim. But Halo, Half-life, Dark Souls, Uncharted, Bioshock, GTA, among others, would also rank extremely well.

Now, Destiny isn't a perfect game. It may need a little patching, minor fixes and a few updates here and there. It's an enterprise. A saga of sorts. Star Wars v0.5. People that bought into the hype are experiencing a myriad of different conflicting thoughts and feelings. Thankfully I wasn't exposed to it and can take it for what it is.

As it stands, Destiny is a FANTASTIC game! Trust me.
Here's the interesting bit: if we are to believe the rumoured roadmap, it can get even better and improve over time. I'm having a great, great time playing as a Warlock (currently level 18 and rising)! The crucible is fun! The tech tree is fun! The missions are fun! The raids and strikes are fun! Bottom line: you get your money's worth and then some. You have guaranteed fun. It's already a gem of a game and can only get better!
    Go get it! (Really!)

BTW, I simply fail to comprehend or even respect critic reviews and user reviews that rate this game lower than an 8 or 84%. It's a clear 9 for the time being. It can become a 10 soon. That's better than what can be said of most games. Well done Bungie!

This game is is like the Phantasy Star online of the FPS genre. Its a hub based theme park MMO with the best shooting mechanics ever placed into a FPS mmo. How far this game goes will depend entirely on how fast they put out content. As it is now, if you enjoy the combat you will likely put in hundreds of hours into the game.

Not the best game in the world, but pretty solid. It suffers from being over hyped. But I enjoy the game and think it gets at least a 9 out of 10.All these crazy low scores are unjustified.

Destiny cost 1/2 BILLION dollars to make, and yet it sucks. I played it for about a half an hour. I was totally underwhelmed. I just don't understand it. Firstly, I'd like to acknowledge that the game is supposed to be supported for a long cycle and therefore still has a lot of growing to do. With that said thus far I really love the gameplay, the loot aspects, the rpg elements, the world-building and the customisation.

However, I am finding a lack of story. If you actually take the time to get the companion app and read the Grimoire cards then it all gets fleshed out a lot, which did make me wonder why all of this content was not put to greater use throughout the "story" aspect of the game.

I have found that I have really been drawn to the competitive and co-op aspects of the game to such a degree that I actually dislike doing anything alone, which sounds bad but as someone who usually insists on playing alone, this is an indication of just how fun Bungie has made playing Destiny with others.

I am really interested to see how they build on this fun and solid foundation in the coming few months and maybe years. I just hope they can bring the story to life a little more so I can really care about the characters and the world.

The online aspects really shine through for me. I love playing with others on strike missions and these missions are seriously tough which is really refreshing. The Crucible has also been great fun for me and really gets the adrenaline pumping. I am very new to the PvP area though and I appreciate that the character I play without outside the Crucible - with his guns and skills - is the same one I take into each fight.

This means I don't have to fiddle with loadouts and what not and I can see what works and what doesn't and what I need to practice outside of the Crucible. I can also see what guns people own me with and try and get my hands on those bad boys.

    So all in all:
    - the game is really beautiful and probably the best world I have seen brought to life in a game (on Ps4 at least);
    - the gameplay is really fun and the game systems (loot, co-op, PvP) have kept me addicted;
    - difficulty wise the game is a real challenge and can be as much or as little challenge as needed;
    - the story is fairly disappointing.

I would definitely recommend. We may all get to see how a gaming world grows over a span of years, which would be truly groundbreaking stuff.

We keep going in order to level up our armor and weapons so we can try and get into the raid which would be awesome since it's something we have to work toward instead of just spoon fed to us like most games. Only reason why I don't give it a solid ten is that the strike missions (dungeons) are a big part of the leveling experience and yet they have only 6. I believe it's a cross between Halo, Borderlands, and Call of Duty in some aspects but also believe it is it's own game and very unique. I have played this game every single day since release and find myself thinking about this game when I'm not playing or on the mobile app looking at stats or information. Here is a list and detailed explanation of the pros and cons.

    Pros

The gameplay and combat are superb and the best I've ever seen, from the sounds of the weapons shooting and reloading to the bodies flying a la ragdall style! It is a very satisfying feeling getting a headshot on "The Fallen" (AI you're fighting against)! Every gun looks, feels, and shoots in it's own unique style. You can throw a grenade into a mob full of enemies and watch the bodies fly. Each body shot you do has a different effect on your enemies, shoot them in the leg, they slowly try to get away. PVP is a great example of gameplay and combat because most players will have different weapons and each player uses them differently. I personally recommend hand cannons because of the power with each shot and the feeling of 1 click headshots but someone else may prefer a fully automatic assault rifle using spray & pray. You really "feel" it when you shoot enemies or other players and it just feels right. This is where Destiny is awesome is the combat and weapon system.

The graphis aren't the best I've ever seen but still look impressive on the PS4 to say the least. I have stopped during gameplay just to awe at the landscape because it really looks great. You can see the sun go down and the rays shine through trees and you can forget you are in the middle of a fight with the Fallen. Other characters look really nice, even when you get close up, the textures do not lose their crisp look. This game is somewhat open world but it does still somehow feel kind of "closed" off. You can go almost anywhere but the landscape in the far off distance is not reachable, at least not yet.

Music - The music in Destiny is worthy to take note of. Many of the boss fights become even more epic because of the music that is being played. It really immerses you in the moment and I think it even hightens the situation that much more. The soundtrack is out and getting great reviews already.

I know this game has gotten a lot of negative reviews and many feel it was all hype and didn't deliver. I gave this a 9 and not a 10 because of how much I'm addicted to this game and it's been a long time since I've been this hooked on something. The story is not so great, the story of this game is definetley incomplete and many have been upset about that. I have also been pretty upset about the loot system considering I had successfully completed over 50+ strikes (at about 30+ minutes each) and always came in first place with my amount of kills/assists and etc. and never once won a legendary item. I continued to remain patient and finally started getting legendary and exotic items and now that I'm level 28, I have 4 exotics and full legendary gear/weapons. It will happen, you WILL get great gear but there is no rhyme or reason to it, it is all random no matter how well you perform.

The stories and loot system I beleive or the negative points of this game and the reason I dropped it to a 9 out of possible 10. But the gameplay, music, sounds, graphics, and the POSSIBILITY of getting awesome gear keeps me coming back. I hate this game so much I love it! They got it wrong on some major areas but got it right on some major areas. I play this game because I'm finally getting all this great gear and my character looks bad ass, I can play with my friends and we have a blast in strikes and PVP.

    My advice:

If you have played an MMO where you have grinded the same mobs and maps over and over and over and over to get good gear and you still enjoyed it, get this game!

If you do NOT like playing game that are a grind with the same levels and mobs over and over and over, do NOT get this game!

This game is made by art directors! It’s really beautiful, nice-looking weapons, nice looking locations, nice looking enemies, nice looking armor and etc. The idea of presenting game as semi-open world crating the illusion of real MMORG is nice too.

Though they forgot to hire gameplay director, as game is repetitive and unsatisfying. One run through campaign and it’s getting boring.

Though they forgot to hire gameplay director, as game is repetitive and unsatisfying. One run through campaign and it’s getting boring. (Very short run in 6-8 hours tops) Re-playing missions on higher difficulty is useless. It yields no real reward just more time to complete against tougher enemies.

Experience based level cap limited to 20. It’s ridiculous. To get higher level special items are needed that are hard to find. The best option to buy weapons sing special currency, though with price of up to 150 units per gun and getting only 2-4 per 20 min mission is just too much. Raids automatic match making is unavailable, so I need to have friends available or find someone to join me. I suppose spending time finding or organizing people and not playing is sucks.

The game has a potential, though boring and repetitive gameplay that requires a lot of time to get new stuff and so new level is discouraging. I thing only gamers with A LOT OF FREE TIME will get fun out of it.

    Oh, yeh. Deathmatch sucks.

I have logged over 350+ hours in this game and know every single short cut, cheese, multiplayer map, strike mode, character, everything there is to know about this game. I was captivated for a very long time in becoming the best out of everybody on my friends list and I achieved that with my two level 30 Warlocks. Yes, the story does suck which is why I'm giving it an 8 instead of a 10, but the gameplay is amazing. The raids, especially on hard mode, are very entertaining and require as much skill and team work as possible. It's sad to see so many bad reviews for such a damn incredible game.

The multiplayer is phenomenal. It is just simply incredible. One of the best console multiplayers I have ever played. Bungie did a great job with the maps and balancing out skills, characters, and levels so that everybody has a chance to compete.

After acquiring almost every exotic in the game I have finally weened off of Destiny and starting venturing out to play other games. I still think I am going to come back for the expansion pack, though, because I don't think I have ever been so attached to a game in my life. The communication with other players is wonderful and I have met a lot of good friends through Destiny.

If the story mode was better this would easily be an 11/10, but as for now I stand with my rating: 8/10

Then I tried Destiny which came with my PS4 bundle. At first I felt that it was underwhelming and incoherent as I was expecting a single player type epic story with tight narrative. I gave up on it but went back to it couple months after completing all my backlog games. And 2nd time round, i gave it a chance and made sure i committed a good number of hrs to it. And boy did i have FUN! This game is perfect for me, a working married adult with limited time for extended game sessions. This game made me reminisce of those childhood days where i gamed for fun! The last few games i finished felt like a chore, like a checklist of things to complete. It's refreshing to play a game and not having to keep up with an epic storyline and just de-stress and shoot some stuff. I mean i love games with great plot, characters and direction, but i guess ive been playing too much of those games and sometimes after a long day of work, i just wanna relax and unwind.

Destiny's shooting is perfect for consoles. Never did i feel like i wish i had a mouse and keyboard which was my main gripe with playing FPS on console (just switched to PS4 from a gaming laptop which died on me). Each weapon type feels distinct and has advantages in different situations. I love the weapon designs and just collecting Exotics and Legendaries. Looting is fun (Diablo 1-3 took up 20% of my life!) but the shooting and completing challenging missions are the essence of the Destiny experience. Especially when u play co-op with either auto matchmaking or finding people on forums to team up with. To me the Exotic or Legendary loot i get at the end is just a bonus. The euphoria of overcoming a particular tough challenge with a bunch of pple is intoxicating. And i like it that we dont have to chat or type to communicate, just some random 'dance' or 'wave' character movements. That was what put me off MMOs like world of warcraft where u have to be really involved socially. This feels bery balanced where i get to play with pple but not have to socialize beyond the occassional psn messages. Although the King's Fall raids do require more detailed communication via microphones, and thats the only thng i've yet to complete.

Story could be done much better of course and i do believe they will do a better job in the sequel. The grimoire cards (basically game lore) were annoying at first cos i thought they could be accessed in-game. But once i downloaded the Destiny app and a PDF on google for the complete grimoire collection, i realized there was a lot more to the game lore than explained in the game. This kinda impressed me and pulled me in even more. So on my 2nd character play through, I went way slower (i blazed though my first playthrough as a hunter so had no idea what the heck was going on) and listened to every dialogue, background conversation and read up every quest description. That gave the game more meat in terms of story and plot, especially after reading the complete grimoire beforehand. I wish Bungie will release a lore book in future, like Dragon Age's World of Thedas. I'd buy that.

Anyway, this is the most fun i've had in a game in a long time. And that's not been one of my benchmarks for judging a game. It used to be graphics, story/plot, or characterization that decided for me if a game was great. Destiny just blew my mind how much fun i was having and it's very refreshing. I highly recommend this to those who enjoy FPS, looking for something fun and "mindless" to squeeze in under an hour or 30min per session, and love looting. Sign me up for Destiny 2, COLLECTORS EDITION! Keep it up Bungie, have not played a Bungie game since the original Halo 1 & 2 on the original Xbox (gave up waiting on Halo series to come on PC), so this was bloody impressive!

~~1~ THE GAME is awesome and has the BEST control in any shooter game ever.. and ive been gaming since early 90's...

~~2~ THE COMPANY IS EVIL~ (Bungie)
~And this is a big deal..That story of Bungie ripping off and trying to silence the composer/music director for Bungie is ALL TRUE..And it horrified me...Don't downplay this story my fellow gamers...
because Bungie not only fired the guy, but they kept ALL HIS STOCK IN THE COMPANY. We are talking about 80 Million dollars in stock or whatever the amount was...
*He destroyed Bungie in court and Bungie got yelled at by the Judge for using pathetic Tactics in the courtroom to make it appear like they achieved even a small victory...ALL OF THIS IS 100% TRUE AND CAN EASILLY BE GOOGLED...
~So yeah,,i can ignore Bungie and pretend they are the good ole boys from Halo 1 + 2 and the VICTIMS of Microsoft and they finally got independence. but all the rumours were TRUE about THIS GAME, DESTINY getting nerfed and broken up into pieces...

~~This story was gutted and this is another huuuge story and the reason the score is 78 or 79 instead of the 97 or 98 It woulda shoulda gotten had the game not been cut by 75%..
    YES 75% IS MISSING...

***GREED WON THE DAY AND Bungie reputation took a Hillary style hit...
**I recently returned to Destiny after I bought the newest dumb expansion for $40 bucks..(lame)

**and I was amazed at the control and shooting mechanics...In the eyar off I took, I played Metal gear Solid V for 6 months str8, and I played FARCRY 4,,FARCRY PRIMAL(garbage) and The Division..And both these games are mediocre with guns and control compaired ot DESTINY...
I cant say this enough...But the company is really bad and the rumors I heard about missing content is I suspect TRUE..and that means Bungie is a slave to Activision..Thats the price of theyre freedom from Microsoft...
***Had DESTINY been made by Bungie under Microsoft = we woulda had Game of the year and a legend along the Lines of Halo 1 +2....Activision + Bungie allowed Greed to take control and that sound guy is a eff'n Hero....Bungie/Activision DESTROYED his reputation like Hillary did the women Bill Clinton fed D*** too....This man is a hero who yes wanted his money,,but the reason Bungie fired him was because he took a stand and stood up to activision........EVERYONE WHO IS A GAMER MUST READ THAT STORY....

The game is a solid new IP. I believe the sequel will be what we all wanted this one to be. The mechanics are solid, the controls actually work, and everything feels good. Nice job bungie.

It's Bungie, that's for sure. They made the **** Halo tp Halo Reach games that are as **** as Destiny. This studio just can't make good games.

Lets take away all hype attached to this game for a moment. "Destiny" is a solid first person shooter with top of the class action, visuals and contains a very grounded gameplay foundation. After awhile of play, lack of content starts to show. Repetitive mission design and awful story don't help either. But it helped remind me what made multiplayer gaming so great in the first place.Lets take away all hype attached to this game for a moment. I am a PC GAMER. But I also have a PS3, well, I'm in love with this game. Graphics are pretty decent for a PS3 version. I think the story is something immersive as well. So I can't play.
Storywise this game is very immersive, gameplay is cool. I'm having tons of fun with this. Despite there's no blood spill and things like that. I'm in love so far. Atmosphere - 8.5 (playing on PS3 doesn't help much but is acceptable) Graphics= for PS3 I'll give 9 Gameplay 8 it's nice, it is not a golden joystick gameplay but its pretty decent.

Destiny is probably the best feeling shooter I've ever played on a console. The visuals and world design are top-notch, and the soundtrack is nearly unmatched. Something about it is very addicting. Is it worth your time and money? Probably not, but if you ever find it for like 30 bucks, get it. Expand

I am having HEAPS of fun with DESTINY. I am playing with a full 3-man fire team though (I honestly don't know why others reviewers on here are playing the game on their own, don't you have any friends!?!) and it is STACK of fun. Enemies do get a bit repetitive but the bounties will vary the way you approach each mission. All in all a very good game, but does still have room for improvement.

Destiny took a while to get into but once you start you get immersed in a well detailed and fun world. The campaign was average at best, mostly repetitive shooting down things, walk around, shoot more things down and keeping walking around in a painfully linear world. Multiplayer is horribly balanced, level 1s can be put against level 30s BUT once you get leveled up it is insanely fun. What destiny lacks for in some areas it makes up for in others. Expand

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
