As a very sporadic and casual gamer, I usually do not care too much for a storyline or enthralling dialogue. To say this game has a good storyline would be a complete lie; the story is non-existent and boring. The characters are lifeless and the cutscenes are very annoyingly un-skippable. To say this game has a good storyline would be a complete lie; the story is non-existent and boring. The characters are lifeless and the cutscenes are very annoyingly un-skippable. However, as I said I don't care too much about that so to me this game is the best multiplayer shooter I've played in years. I could see that Destiny would get boring for single players but I very rarely play it alone. This is a great game for chilling after work and shooting some enemies with great-feeling game mechanics.
To me the best thing about this game is that when you reach level 20 you then have to grind for armour to raise your light level to increase your overall level. Since the only way to do this is either to get lots of marks to spend at vendors or receive armour in random drops, the playability of this game is fantastic. I always feel there is a purpose to me doing a mission again or aiming to do something I wouldn't normally do to strive to get that piece of armour/weapon ive been wanting for ages.
The Crucible online PVP feels great and plays well. The only thing that would be better is if a capture the flag mode was added and also a game mode without supers as that would match my play style better.
My friends and I have been playing this for months and are still on it so that tells a lot. If a bigger variety of bounties/patrol missions was added and a skip button for the cut scenes then this would be a 10/10 for me. However, I can definitely see this game would be a lot worse for single players or players looking for a game with a great storyline. Again, I'll repeat, the storyline is dreadful. But if I want a storyline, great characters and interesting dialogue I'll go watch a Paul Thomas Anderson film. If I want to shoot things, chill with friends and have a load of fun I'll play Destiny.

9/10 (for groups of players), 5/10 (for single players)

    Pros:
    -Excellent visuals and audio
    -Fun PVP
-RPG aspect of leveling and getting gear
-Different classes add new strategy to PVP and co-op
-Co-op/fire teams make the game better
-More content post leveling. Having the strike missions and bounties gives me good reason to play the game after the so called 'story' of the game

    Cons:
-PVP balance is not that balanced. While damage is normalized between players, abilities aren't. A level 20 player is going to have a lot more abilities on their armor and class than someone who is level 3, who can't even double jump.
-Getting gear is hard. I'm not saying it needs to be super easy but at the point it is now, people are leaving the game because the algorithm that gives gear is just too stringent. Bungie can learn from D3 where they kept upping the percentage of rare drops and reducing the randomness of the items
-Lackluster story. There could be SO MUCH potential for the story but nothing gets explained. Who are the awoken and exo? Where do they come from? Who is the traveller? Why is it just a ball? What is the darkness? Can't just be the fallen or the Vex or whoever else we fight because they fight each other too
-For an MMO type game, it lacks a lot of MMO aspects like trading between players and expansive world. We are only given portions of each planet we're on. I'd rather one FULL world than 4 partial worlds. But that's just me. I do still wish the Earth had more to it. After the destruction of Earth, the last place I care about is RUSSIA of all places.

All in all, this is a decent game. I'm still playing it because I want one of each class and because it's a good game overall, but I have to say that it has a lot of repairs.

This game is a massive disappointment that I can't stop playing. Destiny serves as more a trap, where one is lured into it's amazing gunfights and addictive RNG and loot, rather then a game that is played for fun.

Bungie made a great effort with delivering a technical scaffolding. The story elements could have been much more. I'm think random missions such as one would seen in Elders' Scrolls would make the game more posh. I think they could have done better to release Fall 2015. It's not a bad game, but it does lack a decent story. Nothing makes sense having to read off my cell phone -- theBungie made a great effort with delivering a technical scaffolding. I'm pretty sure a Grimoire is a witches spell book. I found a soccer ball on the tower level. Thinking about that makes me wonder about how hard it would have been to enable a conversation system similar to Elders' Scrolls.

Most of the game's functions are confusing. I leveled up one of the factions to level 2 without realizing it. I actual had no clue how to obtain the various currency without internet research. By the way you can't trade anything. You can't see anything. You can only dismantle things. You can't dismantle extra space ships or jet bikes. There are no weapons on the ships or bikes.

Hopefully they develop more content. I think they lost the mantle but we'll see in 2015.

Such promise, such pity. Destiny is disappointing because of what it was supposed to be. What it could have been. The story is awful and it's outcome forgettable. The mission design is woeful. But the game does have some good features. Fun, fun, fun. Destiny will keep you entertained for a month or so depending on how much you play. Grab a friend and the experience is easily heightened. Destiny has fantastic voice acting from Bill Nighy to Peter Dinklage and this adds charm. However for all it's positives, Destiny is a let down. I am actually unaware if the game is that mediocre or if my judgement is down to the amount of marketing and hype this game received. I expected game of the year material. This dream was short lived and the solar system was met with a catastrophic event. Enter the guardians set to protect what's left. The whole idea of visiting other planets in our solar system was an awesome concept and for its time the graphics picturing how these worlds would look were very detailed. But that is how far Destiny travels. The game's story line is weak and repetitive. End game is a major short fall. One of the biggest issues with the game is lack of matchmaking, a huge problem in a game that requires multiple players to beat certain missions. In one year the developers announced a sequel which really flattens the idea of this game being classed as a true MMORPG. The multiplayer is average, not great but really not that bad. Overall the game was a disappointment and even with recent patches and DLC's Destiny constantly comes undone with the lack of end game content. For the trophy hunters, the game is relatively easy to platinum with the exception of one trophy "Flawless Raider". This trophy requires a group of highly skilled players to not die a single time in a raid. Although there are guides available dependent on your own skill and abilities where you can obtain this trophy by yourself. Expand

Before I got this game, I thought Destiny would have massive worlds, varied levels (not just repetitive) and also a replay value to it.

September 2014, my dreams came true... sort of.

    -Story-

There isn't. From what I recall, you are this city's only hope from evil forces coming in blah blah blah. I couldn't tell what was going on as I was too busy interested shooting some poor aliens skull in. The addition of the grimore cards to try and expand the plot elements don't really make a difference to the story whatsoever.

    -Gameplay-

The gunplay in the game is very good and the option to upgrade it is nice as well. The addition of bounties and strikes add difficulty to the game. Only problem is that they are all the same really. Typically its go out, shoot some aliens, go and wait for that robot to work his magic whilst you shoot some more, shoot boss, done. That will be the same for most of the bounties (some bounties you have to collect something). Raids I have played and its one of the highlights of the game, as you need team communication to complete it.

    -Multiplayer-

Plays a bit like COD but more floaty and less dying at spawn. If you have high ranking guns and a fusion rifle, then you're set for the game.

    -DLC-

Now, I haven't got any of the DLC's for Destiny as it's around £20 for one, which is the price of a second hand game. For a few maps, weapons raid and a strike, that is a bit too much (yes, I know, the DLC's for COD mostly had 4 maps plus a goodie, but they were £11).

Overall, I can't really see myself playing Destiny that much due to the repetitive nature of it. Endgame is the same as story, grind and repeat, grind and repeat.

    Borderlands, anyone?

First off this is a very nice looking game, just don't look up close at the textures. The vistas and landscape is where it really shows the lighting and shadows. The game-play is very comparable to Borderlands , It gives you a some what open world to explore and grind over and over for those legendary pieces of gear. Just like Borderlands this game is best played with friends, You can go without but you will free like you are missing out. Destiny gives you a fair amount of missions to complete and repeat over and over, as well as strike missions witch will end in a boss and almost always give you some kind of gear. By the end of the game you are left to basically repeat story/strike missions to complete bounties and hopefully have some kind of super cool gear drop. There is also the crucible (Player Vs Player) that you can play from the just about the start of the game, But is definitely best played at level 20+. Bungie recently released there first raid mission as well called "Vault Of Glass" and with all those things to complete once you hit max level it leaves with with a fair amount to stuff to do. But once you have played the missions to death, are tired of the Crucible and can't get a raid group together you are kind of bored of it all. It's not the feeling you want , luckily Bungie is adding new DLC and Events to keep people playing.
If you are a fan of Borderlands/Diablo or even Halo you will enjoy this game to some extent, but this game is definitely not for everyone and won't be enjoyed by anyone who hates grinding for gear or halo type multiplayer.

It's got very similar weapons overall, and the new weapon loot which is doled out at a snails pace, that only improve your stats in small increments, and for a loot game, that is a disaster.

Those bosses again. OMG x 1000. Some of the worst boss battles in gaming that actually made Uncharted final bosses look good. YES DESTINY IS REALLY THAT BAD.
Destiny's Early bosses - if the player shoots from a mid distance, simply slowly strafe side to side exclusively, exactly as though they are tied to invisible train tracks!! It's truly absurd.

Sure the game has been balance pretty well. But that just shows you ( because balancing take multiple repetative increments over a long time to get right ) for how long Bungie knew about how underdeveloped Destiny really is. They knew exactly the boring turd that was released into the wild.

There is virtually no mission variety, and you add in a no story, massive repetition of boring, way worse than Halos " 30 seconds of fun" combat engagement... or should I say ' en-rage-ment, and you've got a modern day x-file of why countless people like this game.

So while I’m sure Destiny is now this great experience with all its ad ons...
I’m going to just talk about the base game which is a repetitive and boring joke…
Destiny is a competitive and cooperative online only first person shooter where you play as 1 of 3 classes and create your own character
As an aggressive player I played as a titan..
There are 2 bases in this game that you turn in your quest progress 2, get new missions, fork out your real life cash for any weapons that are worth anything from loot boxes and get back to the grind of being a guardian…
    This game is co op...
But through my entire 9 hour journey in story mode I only had team mates in one mission…
The story mode is practically dead…
So you’re going to have to grind through this excuse of a story mode yourself…
Worse is that all 9 hours take place on the same 4 maps…
the missions just take your deeper into these maps each time..
There are some loot boxes here that are like playing a game of where waldo to find them...
so I just stuck to getting my loot from missions and enemy drops…
Leveling up in this game gives you upgrades for your grenades and suit
though the game doesn’t seem to balance in terms of xp if you are playing alone so late game missions are extremely frustrating..
I was playing through the final story mission at only level 14 because of how slow the game was handing levels out because it assumes I’m going to grind through boring story missions over and over or that I’m playing with other people…
I felt like I had to keep playing in these annoying no respawn zones over and over that would reset every time I died…
But these missions are all the same thing of bring up your ghost, go to a point on the map and shoot all of the stuff until there’s no more stuff to shoot rinse and repeat..
There is a competitive team based mode of 6vs6 like call of duty which is the best part of Destiny as a base game...
Here level advantages are taken away, but you’ll level up way faster than the story mode, you’ll get loot drops, and you’ll have way more fun doing it…
IF you were thinking about giving destiny a try before destiny 2 comes out there’s absolutely no reason to
there’s nothing here worth your time
    Give Destiny
    a 6/10

After putting in some 200 hours, I discovered that Destiny eventually becomes the worst kind of loot grinder you can imagine. It includes some of the worst aspects of RPG and MMO games, namely the repetitive play as you look for loot. This part of the game can be addictive, but keep in mind that the game world is actually quite small compared to games like Skyrim and Dragon Age, so the boredom sets in fast.

Something else to be aware of is that Activision has seen to it that the game pushes players toward the very expensive DLC ($20 each) packs by creating a variety of paywalls that will restrict your gameplay once you reach some of the endgame content. It's a cheap way of pressuring players into paying, or else excluding them from content they've already paid for.

Something else to keep in mind is that the game is not meant for solo play. While you can do some content alone, if you don't have at least 5 good friends, you'll find yourself shut out of the "raids", which are considered the best of the endgame stuff. Bungie refuses to put matchmaking in, so anyone who doesn't have friends online is going to be out of luck.

If you pick this up cheap, or wait for an edition that includes all content, it might be worth a play, but NEVER pay full price for it. The concepts had some potential, but most of it was squandered by game design decisions that revolve around making money, first and foremost.

You may not get your desired item after tons of attempts while one lil' **** comes into raid/nightfall/vanguard amd gets it. Next thing is the campaign. This is the worst gameplay that i've ever had to know. The missions are boring as f**k. It's variety is limited to number of types that you can count on fingers on your hand. Generally it's go somewhere, kill someone or defend something, or collect something or scan something. The sad thing is you need to do this to reach level 20. You can also play multiplayer which, for me, is pretty much boring. After that, you are collecting pieces of armor with specified amount of light that levels you up. The DLCs are just an effect of Activision's hunger for our money - the only worth might be the Comet coming sept 2015. Generally, the only fun thing im this game is cooperation included in raids and strikes. However, to do them you need a group of friends cause playing with randoms is a bad idea. And there is one questions that remains... How long can you repeat the same objectives over and over? That's the thing which at Destiny sucks. It just takes your time, you get interested in but after all, result is you will end up bored and then you realize that you wasted so much time you could allocate for better things... Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is not enough meat on the bones for this game to make it worthwhile. Basically, you will spend a few around 8 hours a week before you become nauseously bored. The main part of this game are the raids which you have to find people to hopefully not rage quit or dc and if they do good luck as there is no matchmaking, blows my mind. Pvp or the crucible is decent other then the ridiculous loot drop system that sometimes rewards afkers more then the top players. I will not mention anything about the story as there is literally nothing to talk about. Finally, they need to add something different then the non stop bounties that Bungie says is content. Expand

Before I can even start with my review I must say that this is the first time I have played a FPS game, therefore I don't have a point of reference to compare to.

The game play and dynamics are pretty cool, very intuitive.
The graphics are also next gen standard and very detailed.
However the content is very limited and missions are very repetitive.
There is nothing new that Destiny has to be offer.

The game had so much potential, but ended up disappointing. Ive had this game since it came out, unfortunately for me I was conned into paying extra for the pre order. The game isn't terrible but to pay 80 dollars for this game is insane im sorry your paying for a product that is hollow and feels really bland. The classes offer similar combat tactics and don't add enough variation to replay with a different one. I don't get how a game with a 500 million dollar budget cap can be so repetitive?! Hoards of enemies playing over and over again. And again. And again. You find out quickly that this is going to be the case through the whole game. Dinkle bot as they call him, stops and says some random stuff and then play the hoard mode, defend him. Wrinse and Repeat. Over and over again. This system is unforgivable. I didn't expect a game with a 500 Million dollar budget to use this, ofcourse I expect it from mobile games or even sometimes start up companies. But from Bungie? The godfathers of Halo? That doesn't make any sense considering how well produced the first halo games were. Its most likely Activision handing out marching orders and Bungie being broke as hell after being basically fired from halo, put it any way you like retired, stopped it doesn't matter at the end of the day they stopped making Halo to make this boring, repetitive, lazy game called Destiny. I hope next time Activision gives Bungie strict time orders, I hope they spit on their shoe and possibly give em the bird because I don't want to see great companies waste what they had. That's right what they had..... Expand

Destiny has an amazing framework set for a Game of the Year, but unfortunately lacks substance to reach such potential. Originally, I would have given this game a 7.5, but after the dlc and lack of proper updates, Bungie has shown incompetence in developing a game in this genre--especially since other games already exist in some form or another (Warframe being closest) within this genre for a couple years. It's as if they learned nothing with mmorpg-esque games. Because right now, the grind is incredibly boring. There is no randomness to maps or enemies like other grind games. And the RNG (random number generator) for loot is one of the worst in games.

Also, for a game that spews "social," there is no ingame chat to help with finding groups for modes that have no matchmaking. You have to go on your phone or pc, find somebody on an external site or forum, invite them to your party chat, then invite them again within the game. It's a horribly unproductive process. Also, there is no use for the most part to clans...yet.

The dlc (or "expansion" to Bungie) is regurgitated maps from the main game and mostly same weapons with just a new cover look. The story is still nonexistant except for on your pc or phone in grimoire cards.

Quite simply, the game is only good for maybe 60 hours unless you like to play the same, exact thing over and over again with little story and reward. If they added some depth to enemies and randomness to them--like Warframe, Diablo 3, or any other grind game--it would have helped tremendously, but they did not. You will literally fight the exact same scripted layout with maybe some minor, predetermined 'combat' modifiers.

Truthfully, I would recommend waiting till Destiny 2 to invest in this series cause you are not missing much...except that cash you wasted on this.

Not as terrible as I kept expecting it to be. I must say I love the fact the mobile app literally blows itself over. It allowed me to be aware that the story literally only took me 6 F****** Hours to finish. But ignoring that, the games story is shallow, and generally just bad. Nothing is explained at all. I don't care about the stupid wiki-like crap I can look up. It's not in the game, that's bad game design. Period. The 'Open World' parts of this game are lies, and are more like tiny areas of small crappy missions to do. The Crucible is fun, but with literally two types of game modes (Also add into the fact that if you don't have Taken King, you aren't going to be playing the cooler stuff) And Strikes don't hold your attention for very long. The content given at base value, the original 60 dollars is pathetic. So why is it a six? Because....I, did have fun with it. And that's something I can't deny about the game. I had a lot of fun with it for a lot of reasons. So, Destiny gets by with me with barely passing marks. A slightly above average FPS with MMO elements. Expand

The gunplay and the variety of gear is great, and the Light progression system once you reach level 20, is a very different way to go than most games, and it works. It keeps you playing to find the best gear possible. As well as this, it is difficult to play solo, it just isn't as engaging as when playing with friends. Expand

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
