This game just didn't live up to it's hype. This game is an empty respective unrewarding generic shooter. It feels a bit like crysis 2 gameplay wise.

I bought the digital copy as I thought I would never want to take the disk out. Huge disappointment. I can't imagine I will pick up any DLC for this either.

This just goes to prove to me that the modern day consumer is an utter moron. How this game has a single 10/10 from anyone who has actually played the game.

The Beta and Alpha promised a lot, the released version just feels like a furtherance of the beta. I am not bothered about the story either, however the "events" are just the same missions renamed, and then if you do get something for doing said special "event" you get an item about 14 levels lower than you.

I am not going to make the comparison between this and borderlands, I enjoyed borderlands. The game felt great for a while, until the dawning realisation that "this was it", once you have done that mission, you will be made to do it over and over again, for very little reward.

I am gutted, this could have been so much better. I firmly believe that Bungle, I mean Bungie prostituted this game to Activision and they chopped up what would have been a great game with a wonderful narrative.

I will also add that those of you who have heard of the loot cave, this got patched very quickly, however other concerns that the community have are being ignored. The loot cave was the most social part of Destiny, then they broke it.

Having played Last of Us to death on ps3 i deceided to dive straight in and start playing "Destiny". Now, let me tell you the good stuff first, since there is unfortunetly so little of it. As i was used to ps3 graphics and never played a ps4 before, this game visual presentation was earth shattering . Everything is absolutely gorgeous in this game. Truly "next gen". The textures used are insanely detailed, with beautiful lighting effects. Everything just is what you always hoped gaming would be one day since you first played that humble little Nintendo in 1985. and everything is running silky smooth with no fps slowdowns once. Amazing indeed.
Next Gunplay. Absolutely nailed it. Best gunplay i have had since, well, ever on any Playstation. That combined with the new ps4 controller and you have gameplay as smooth as butter. I really understand now why some Xbox only gamers have had so much love for Halo. Shooting and aiming guns is very satisfying and well above the standard.
The last good point i would like to point out is the amazing Hollywood blockbuster style soundtrack. You just have to hear it.
And that is about all the positive stuff i can tell you about this game.

The negative list is quite a bit longer s i am sorry to say.
The story is pure rubbish. Pure and utter crap, scraped from the bottom of the cheapest cliche barrel they could find. Let me give you an example here: the good guys are "The Light", and the bad guys "The Darkness". Yeah, no kidding. "The Darkness" is then sub divided in even more cliche sub factions such as "the Hive", "The Fallen" etc. This in itself would not be such a problem if there was actually a story to follow, but there isn't. To actually learn something about these factions, or anything for that matter, you will have to pause the game and head to a website and read the lore there. Serious, that is what you have to do. hardly any ingame story. And since i simply refused to get my story from a website out of priciple, all i was left with was basically a polished up 2014 version of space invaders. What little story there is ingame however is the worst of the worst. It explains nothing. You where dead, but was revived somhow after a few hundred years, yet no one bothers to explain it to me how or why. Later on in the game a character pops up and starts talking to me as if we know each other, but i never have seen her in my game once. Says she is too busy to explain or some crap like that and vanished. lol WTF?? She did give a gun when i "finished" the game though, which was nice i guess. And it goes on and on. The story simply makes no sense and is a huge let down. I actually think they would have been better off just cutting the story alltogether and make this a straight up hardcore shooter.

Then there is the voice acting. And boy, is it bad.
Bungie somehow managed to grab everyones favorite member of the Lannister family, Tyrion, aka Peter Dinkelage. And i am sorry to say, he blew it, and he blew it big time. I dont know if this is because of a lack of directing, or because he simply sucks as a voice actor. But he is so bad i wished he would stfu allready.
He plays this "ghost" which looks a bit like "Wheatley" from Portal 2. And he must surely be one of the most annoying game characters ever made by man. Play it, and you will find out because i just cannot bring myself to be so critical of the excelent Tyrion. Lets just say Peter Dinkelage is no Ashley Johnson / Troy Baker when it comes to voice over work.

Mission design is pathetic. Simplel as that. There are literally 2 "quests" in this game. Kill wave after wave, also known as point defense, horde mode etc. and there is kill the boss, which is pure bullet sponge tank and spank crap. That is all there is too it. No escort, no chases no nothing. It is embarassing to be honest.
Loot is hardly dropped by mobs make it even more boring than it already is, so you need to grind reps to get gear. There are a few daily "quests" to help you along though to obtain it a little faster. Fun quests such as KILL 10.000 guardians, no kidding. Make no mistake, this is grinding original everquest style.
It was after i read that quest btw that i ejected the game and traded it in for something else.

TLTR; this game is a complete outhouse of a mess. Stay away

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny is good game, it draws you in straight away with it's graphics and great gameplay. That all came to end for me, all the top tier gear is locked away at level 20 and you need to earn reputation with factions and currency to be able to buy the gear. the problem with that is by the time you grind enough reputation and currency you have done everything the game has to offer so many times over.

Once you reach level 20 you HAVE to wear specific items that have a Light rating in order to continue leveling up, if you take them off to wear something with no Light rating you can no longer level up beyond level 20. This mechanic to me is just pointless in any game let alone a game that already has so many things that need grinding they add specific items you need to farm just to level up beyond level 20.

The story is almost non-existent and even though I just played it I can't remember anything about why I was running around the solar system besides it was to stop a darkness that is never really explained who defeated a traveler that is never really explained or how a tiny little floating box somehow brought your character back to live after being dead for hundreds of years.

The game appears of have had great potential not to mention an insane budget and wit both of those what has been released is a very pretty game with excellent game play but is completely devoid of any good storytelling in its campaign and far too much farming/grinding.

If this was a one word review, it would just say "redbox."

You'll either save 58 dollars or not mind a small initial investment because you'll be hooked on it. I happened to be in the former camp. After two days, I had the story nearly finished and was almost at the point where I could start collecting the purple weapons...and by this point I had a voice in the back of my head constantly screaming "why should I care?"

I'll start with the good, character and weapon design is pretty well done, it's standard sci-fi fare, sounds are a mixed bag, with some weapons sounding like plastic toys and others are viscerally satisfying. The lighting stands out particularly, shadows dance off the walls and seeing the sun reflect off a destroyed space station is breathtaking, although some textures tend to look plastic-y. Co-op can be extremely rewarding and the idea of running into strangers to tackle random events together is fun, although it's also Destiny's biggest problem, relying on others for fun. I have to draw a parallel with borderlands, where it can be even more fun with friends, but works just fine on its own, Destiny not so much.

On to the bad, what you've heard countless times is true, it is repetitious, and thinly veiled at that. Patrol missions are variations on 4 objectives, scan things with the ghost, go somewhere and scan things yourself (stand in one spot motionless) kill enemies, and kill enemies and pick stuff up. It's the same thing you do in regular missions without a boss enemy, and with less structure. It doesn't matter what material you pick up because the process is exactly the same. The 'Ghost' that follows you around and narrates your adventures is a mashup of cortana and guilty spark, so you'd think the creators would have done a good job on it, but the dialogue is cringe-worthy. I can't believe someone signed off on it with a straight face, although story is absent from Destiny, and it hurts the overall game because all the generically named enemies you fight are all just space fillers, and more often than not they'll either walk in a straight line towards you or stand there while you shoot at them to the point where you actually find one who dodges your attacks it's frustrating, the only purpose they serve is to help you level up, although no matter what level you are they give the same experience, and the difference between shooting a level 2 fallen at level 16 and level 3 is minimal, with damage appropriate weapons, although fighting a higher level enemy turns them into a bullet sponge and your armor into 1 ply toilet paper. The leveling system exists solely to hamper progress, and after level 20 to cater to MMO lovers. There are so many elements in the game such as ships that have no effect on gameplay whatsoever, and it all seems like wasted potential.

I could go on, and that's unfortunate, but there are some who will enjoy this game and I think you should definitely give it a chance, although to me it wasn't worth it. It almost seems like this game got rushed out the door to cash in high profile games being pushed back to next year and the story wasn't fully developed. I'd keep my eye on this series in the future and definitely give it another shot, but this one was a miss for me.

Good graphics, easy controls (work nicely for non FPS regulars).

Shallow story, limited game mechanics, no environment interaction, repetitive gameplay, no split-screen multiplayer.
Only excuse to play this game is that there aren't any other good sci-fi shooters on PS4 currently.

The PVP has been the most redeeming factor here and even then I question how long they could keep that a fresh experience. Well, it'll be with expansions of course. $95 for an always-online game and the expansion pass that you'll need come December when the vanilla version becomes obsolete. People were raging when they heard a console was going to be always-online...but they flock to this game which uses the same crutch. lol, swindle of the decade right here. I tried giving this game a chance but it fails miserably on all counts. There is nothing worth while doing in the game once you get to around level 15. I give it a 5 out of 10 because the shooting part is solid. But then again, isn't it the same as they did back in 2001? I fear that Destiny represents that BUNGiE can't move past their previous saga. From the developers of Halo, here's a shooter that "plays it safe".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overhyped game that looks great, but in the end has no appeal to anyone for what it is. Is it an MMO? With such a dynamic combat system that is more Halo and COD than a strategical shoot and cover system like Battlefield or MOH, this game is too fast paced to need much in strategy when jumping like a fairy all over the place throwing bullets and grenades is enough to get through most situations, and the PvP is mostly broken with the matchmaking system bringing all types together and allowing their one hit wonders of a weapon to sweep boards for what can only be fairly called a rape or good ol' fashioned turkey shoot. So then is it a FPS? For the first 4 hours, maybe. It's actually pretty fun running around and shooting different enemies with different weak points and ranking up for the first bit of the game, but with a story that is mostly just hashed together with little to nothing explained, you finish the story wandering what the **** you're supposed to do now? Well just like the story line, the simple, but kinda off beat inner workings of the game are never explained. I had to refer to the internet every time I played to figure out what I was supposed to do or could do and how I was supposed to do it (should have bought that strategy guide, eh Prima?) So aside from the loose story which isn't really all that important and the lack of explanation for well, most of the gameplay outside of gameplay, this game still sucks as a FPS, and here is why: PvP boughts are rough, glitchy, and generally unrewarding, and unless you enjoy burning through the same campaign line over and over and over, at least the same handful of levels 4-5 times a week, then there is nothing here for you shooter fans either. It's too dumbed down and fast paced for a traditional MMO player, and it's too slow paced and unrewarding/unfulfilling for your regular shooter. If this is the future of gaming, then I'll hang my hat up now, because this game sucks, and I'm kinda pissed it took me two weeks to see I was wasting my time with what I thought would be an interesting shooter RPG like Mass Effect or Borderlands built on the idea of MMO sandbox. I was half right, it's an MMO built solely on Halo mechanics and an intriguing story line that is never explained, just told from somewhere in the middle. And SPOILER ALERT: If you're interested in the sandbox concept of this game imagine four levels that are big beautifully landscaped racetracks that span for something similar to half an island on GTA IV I suppose, with waves of respawning enemy packs and a couple missions in each area (4 types) that either are headhunting missions or run across the map (no timers mind you) and stand in a spot for a couple seconds. Pretty lame. Save your money kids, this one is a lemon sold by the loudest magazines and reviewers. Expand

I'm on the fence with this game. I heard all the hype and was expecting a lot out of this game. First the good stuff.. It took me forever to understand the story mode.. and its easy. the setup in each place is the same, the bad guys are always going to do theI'm on the fence with this game. It took me forever to understand the story mode.. and its easy. the setup in each place is the same, the bad guys are always going to do the same things move the same way and appear in the places. you can't interact with the other Guardians at all.. for a world to be played with each other, there is no social aspect at all. to do the cruicible and vanguard and many other missions and online gameplay you need to have playstation plus access.. so you buy the game, and need to spend more to get everything the game claims to have. I'm almost done the game.. then what.. ive played maybe 15 hours.. so go back play the same worlds with the same missions over and over? doesn't seem to be any progression not enough variety, and all the hype is way over done.. its an ok game.. its fun but, it misses the power punch I was expecting. Boring is the only word to sum up this game... It's a bad attempt at taking the great from other successful franchise to create your own master piece. This game feels like ive been playing it for 10 years.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
