It’s pretty bad. Horrible gameplay, the world is way too colorful and combat is n realist. Pretty much opposite what Assassins creed used to be.

Better than Valhalla in every way so it should be rated higher. Valhalla has the exact same micro transactions yet people brushed it aside this time around. If Odyssey was review bombed for said reason than Valhalla should be too, especially when the game is even more boring and slower to get through. Valhalla made me appreciate Odyssey more.

Even ignoring how the recent rpg AC games are such a diversion from the series that they should not be Assassins Creed games. This game also suffers from the mid-late 2010s open world curse. Every game has to be open world even when there isn't enough content to fill it. This is a prime example of the expression "wide as an ocean but deep as a puddle"

I enjoy a bit this game but it’s like an assassins creed origins setted in greek. This game recycles most of their mechanic feeling that you are playing the same game of the past year. A game of that caracteristics cannot be considered a good game.

From all the microtransactions that are basically forced upon a player to have an enjojable experience, poorly designed combat system that sucks all the joy out of a player and the fact that it has very little to do with actual assassin's creed, there are not many positive thoughts I have about this game other than the actual setting and a generally good story with some mildly memorable characters. It is the first game in the series that I regret buying. Watching a walktrough of the story on youtube would have been a far better and cheaper option where I would have been spared grinding an empty world with mythological creatures and fire swords, that have no place in an ac universe, just to become a high enough level to progress trough the story. Il peggior capitolo della saga! Personaggio piatto, storia che non colpisce, bisogna livellare ed anche molto ripetitivo. Manca la possibilità di equipaggiare lo scudo in quell'epoca storica molto grave. Bella l'ambientazione.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This could be GOTY! Amazing to play, great storyline, great mechanics! This is the kind of game you can play for hours at stretch. I love the greek mythos and on the first impression, I thought, wow I can be Leonidas and I can be Themistocles. The game is not greedy. You can not purchase anything and yet be OP. The classification of gear (Common, rare, epic, legendary) is rewarding enough. The boss fights are draining, but the rewards are worth it. The game has a pretty good sense of humour too. Jesting with characters like Alkibiades and Socrates is quite funny. The perpetual Peloponnesian war never lets this game end and you can switch your allegiance at your whim! That's what a mercenary does right? The Skill tree is not too complicated and fun to use. The USP is the Sparta Kick, paying homage to Leonidas' legendary "This is Sparta"! I would've liked it if I could upgrade the Ship (going from a sailboat to the Black Pearl), but the ship's shape and size remain the same. There is always more than one way to achieve an objective. This AC would keep you hooked for hours with over 200+ hours of gameplay before the main quest line ends. Then again, you can still explore various island nations, do Bounty or side quests. Gameplay-wise, it's quite nice. Decent map pointers move mechanics are uniform and refreshing combat mechanics. You can't just pound your enemy into submission (maybe you can in the later stages of the game), you have to wait for the opportunity to attack. Fighting to run away from an OP enemy is also looks quite genuine. Customizing the gear and character and gear looks is sweet, one moment I am a greek hoplite, in next one I am a Persian assassin..ha! Fun right?
My verdict: Please buy, you won't regret it!

PS: You get an undead horse on fire!

One of the best Assassin's Creed games, 10x better than Valhalla; the graphics were great, the gameplay was awesome, and it's perhaps the only game ever to showcase Ancient Greece realistically in all of its ancient glory. Highly recommend this one; the only reason it doesn't have a 10 is because the story overall was decent but didn't push the bar.

AC Odyssey is a game above all others. A truly immersive experience, with a full, living and breathing world. Everything, right down to a blade of grass, is rendered lovingly for you to run around in.

Oddsey brings back the cliché dual character protagonist system first started with Syndicate and continued with Origins. I checked if there wasOddsey brings back the cliché dual character protagonist system first started with Syndicate and continued with Origins. This time around however, the characters aren't switched between throughout the game but selected once at the start. To me this is pretty redundant and pointless especially without any indication of what their differences will be aside from gender. I checked if there was any substance to the choice online, but there isn't so I just chose Kassandra as she was easier to understand.

Speaking of false choices, due to Assassins Creed trying so hard to be an rpg these days there's now constant choice prompts in character interactions instead of the traditional cut scenes. They're mostly redundant and just serve to demand player attention and interaction giving the illusion of choice. 99% of choices only give a different responding sentence and don't otherwise affect the conversation or the gameplay in any way.
I would've enjoyed the game much more without them and had to stop myself from spamming circle to skip through conversations.
An example early on of the falsity of choice is choosing a horse. You have to ask about each horse to get told of their "strengths", you go to pick the one with the desired strength only to be told it has a weakness which you dont get told of, then told to choose again or decide. Turns out the horses are all pretty much the same, have the same "weakness" response when selected, then have the same name, and control and travel the same speed.

As with Origins, ubisoft are constantly ruining the controls of the game, now taking the horrible rpg-like controls from origins and further worsening them by removing shields and requiring multiple simultaneous key presses to block attacks. Additionally, heavy weapons have been nerfed since Origins, where they used to provide a block type move mid-swing, now no longer do so in Oddysey, so heavy weapons are now slower and offer no defense.

You have the false illusion of being able to assassinate, except assassination doesn't kill on a single hit unless you are of the same level as the enemy. I long for the days of real Assassins Creed, where enemies weren't all gods.

Many moves which were default in Origins now need to be unlocked, eg Overpower. Even worse, "revelation" aka "pulse" aka eagle vision (rip) something that has existing since AC1, now has to be unlocked and isn't default by points (which makes no sense in an AC plotline). It's also pretty much useless even maxed up as the eagle (up arrow) is far better at finding and identifying things than the revelation/pulse.

Ruined the lore. According to an item at the beginning within Oddysey (not even part of the plot), the precursors took the names of gods rather than being mistaken for gods as per the original Desmond plot of AC.
Instead of being assassins vs templars, this game is a soap opera about a family. It's the most boring assassins creed game i've played, and perhaps the most boring game in general I've played. Also, there's now supernatural mythical enemies now. Origins had some mythology, but it only did this within the pharaoh dlc and within the guise of curses. This is just straight-up running around hack-and-slash grinding identical enemies with varying level mixed with mythical beasts.

I don't understand what this game was trying to be. Obviously some sort of RPG, for some reason. But.. it's a terrible rpg. There's no real role to play. There's no feeling of accomplishment. No variation in missions. No meaning to choice or actions. Only a few decisions actually matter and honestly I didn't care about a single one of them as the situations are dull. Inventory management is rubbish.
Quests are disposible. There's no plot, it's just a character traveling around trying to find other characters, and whilst doing this having sex with as many people, male or female, as they can. And not in a funny way like Leisure Suit Larry. Just a cringe way like pandering to teenagers. None of the relationships matter, and the sex doesn't do anything for the character or story. The ending even hammers home how pointless all of these interactions were.
The plot was already quite thin with Origins, but at least what there was of a plot was fairly memorable. The characters mattered and the main arc made sense. There's really nothing memorable with Oddysey.
Horizon zero dawn, was a much better action rpg, it's such a superior game in literally every way.

As a fan since the original Assassin's Creed in 2007, this will be the last Assassin's Creed game I will buy. I never imagined one day i'd be stuck playing an assassins creed game where I have to roam around spamming slash attacks on artificially leveled-up enemies and worse, fantastical monsters, while searching for members of my family only for nothing to really happen when I do.. This was meant to be a game about assassins and stealth, good vs evil, vox populi vs capitalism, and the origin of humankind.

Odyssey builds and expands upon Origins and it's truly better game in any possible way. World is huge, detailed and beautiful. Gameplay very fun and stories that are told in the game with so many side quests are quite interesting. Some of the side quests remind of Witcher 3, although not at that level of quality. The PS5 60fps means it runs smooth as butter and this vastly improves the visual experience and especially the combat, and I had major issues with these 2 aspects back in 2018. TW3’s magic was in the quality of its side quests. How I went through some amazing stories because I sought them out. Odyssey is the same in this regard. While the main story is in fact good, some of the best quest chains and boss fights are in the optional content. I followed my curiosity and sought these stories out. By the end I was the top ranked mercenary, champion of the arena and I had wiped out the entire cult, and I finally completed the “sci-fi” quest chain too. All these things I did because I wanted to. I’m just 70 hours I feel I lived through a life in Ancient Greece. I was completely lost there during the holidays. I’m so glad I played this game and so many people judge it for not being something it’s clearly not intending to do. Sometimes it’s good to let the past die because old AC had run its course. Not all AC have to be like Odyssey but I’m so glad Odyssey itself exists Expand

Instead its all level gated away and spread oh-so-thinly over a vastly over-sized map filled with unnecessary fetch bloat.

After playing Assassin's Creed Origins i was excited for this entry in the series, Origins felt fresh with a compelling story and main character, sadly however Odyssey feels laboured and tired in addition the sheer size of the map does after a while become too much, and while Origins itself had a large map it did not feel like a chore to traverse.

Anyway don't listen to Witcher 3 fanboys,Odyssey is far superior than The Witcher 3.They don't want another game to get a higher rating.Play the game if you haven't bought yet,

(Also don't believe to people who say that the game is all about microtransactions,I don't know what is their purpose. They are just here to write negative reviews without even playing the game..You don't need to spend extra money in the game, microtransactions are only a few unnecessary items, cosmetics and timesavers-but if you buy timesaver maps or boosts, you will reduce the fun)

    Pros:
    +Beautiful,detailed and living huge world
    +Beautiful graphics (with 4k hdr)
+Very good quests(there are many, mini story side quests those keep the interest. You dont need to take or complete the grindy repitative quests, just do them if they are nearby)
+Exploration desire to its beautiful world
    +Very good game mechanics
    +Good Role playing game elements
    +Good performance
    +Gear Transmog

    Med:
=Building the skills can be more compelling,
=Gear upgrade can be more detailed by requiring more specific ingredients

    Cons:
-You dont lose hp when Falling from high,
-After a battle the hp restores itself,i wish there was a food eating/potion/resting action for hp regen.
-Re-skilling costs nothing,it should be challenging to re-skill

Despite the good work on graphics, design et history personalities, the game feels so robotic and mechanical. There is no emotion in characters, stoy or reactions. So senseless, cold and boring of course. Not that one ac game i would recommend.

By the inspiration and historical analysis deciphered by Ancient Greece, AC Odyssey is beautiful, light, and wonderful to roam around and look at to see what Ubisoft's reinvention of Ancient Greece has to offer for us AC fans. The player has the choice to choose Alexios or Kassandra, and both characters are enjoyable to play as. To be honest, Kassandra is probably the best choice as she reminded me so much as Ezio Auditore from AC2 and the voice capture performance by the actress is top notch right there. In terms of story, it is about as generic as any other AC game has to offer in terms of delivering a decent narrative, but the 60+ hour main story is bloated and somewhat forgettable which frustrates most players. Aside from that, the open world that AC Odyssey offers is huge filled with interesting background perspectives and detail that makes you want to stay and learn more about Ancient Greece and it is historical perfection. Lastly, the combat and RPG mechanics has been vastly improved which is an absolute delight if you want more action and choices for you to do while spending time in Ancient Greece. AC Odyssey might not be an Assassin's Creed game we all know and love, but the Spartan influence is so strong that this game will make the player feel like a Spartan badass as there are things to see and do in Ancient Greece thanks to its influence that impacted our society of tomorrow. The world of Ancient Greece is so well put together that when you stopped running from point A to point B and took time to absorb all of the finer details you realise just how immersive this game could be. Kassandra is a real badass, and spending the 100+ hours diving into shipwrecks, fighting epic battles, assassinating cult leaders and accidentally leaping off of tall cliffs on my trusty steed (sorry Phobos) was a memorable experience that surpassed nearly all of the other AC games to date (ACII still holds out as a favourite).

If you love Greek mythology, sprawling open world adventures with hundreds of quests available, weapons and armour to collect and horses which come back from the dead after a long fall then I would definitely recommend Odyssey.

People complain a lot about live service games and their value but when a game does it objectively better than any game ever before, no one even bats an eye at it. Ubisoft should be praised for how they handled Odyssey after release in my opinion. This is how you do a live service game and release new content.

On the good side, I really like Kassandra, the setting, and the story they are telling so far. The ability to change the appearance of armor is also really nice. On the negative side, the bounty system is kind of busted. I think someone implanted cell phones in the heads of the soldiers in ancient greece. I will be fighting two enemies, kill one and be tagged with a bounty for murder instantly by a different enemy on the other side of the region. How did he know? Especially if I kill the only other soldier that witnessed it 5 seconds later. Also how did he notify bounty hunters of my location instantly. It is lazy video game logic that ends up feeling like a fun tax rather than a meaningful system.
I'm also not a fan of having a grindy level system and gear levels in the game. It kinda sucks to get a legendary and have to pay a lot to keep it up to level with me or replace it with a higher level common. It really hampers my excitement at finding cool new gear. All together I think this game is good.... But it should have been better. Thats why it gets a 7.

Still, if we talk about the good aspects of the game, this is an impressive job done by the Ubisoft design department. They seem to have the most talented and passionate people working there.
The locations are large and impressive. It's pure pleasure to observe territories of Ancient Greece, recreated with enthusiasm and in such details.

The main problem is that these territories are filled with an endless number of terribly monotonous activities.

Almost all side missions consist of someone ask to save his wife/sister/father/horse or kill an evil ruler/commander/bandit or steal a vital document/herbs/weapon.
So, you are heading to one of the hundreds of pretty much the same camps/fortresses/caves scattered around the world, clear this location and return to the "employee" to hear a couple of lines of dialogue and get some experience and money.

The main quest has become quite personal and is tied to the family and its restoration. The idea is commendable, but all the key events essentially can be retold in a few sentences, and everything else (and this is about 40–50 hours) is all the same tasks for clearing outposts and participation in sea and land battles from time to time.

Still, the combat system and leveling up are interesting enough to keep attention to the game for a long time, but because of its excessive length, eventually you'll just start to want to finally finish it and put an end to this story quicker.

In addition to this, many things seem to have been designed deliberately in order to delay the completion of the game for as long as possible.
For example, an incredibly small number of fast travel points. For a huge island or region, this can literally be 2–3 points. Opening them is a separate waste of time, plus, even when they are open, the quests are almost always in the middle between them or far away, so you almost always need to spend time anyway to get to the point of interest from them.

For example, in Horizon, the number of fires is quite large in relation to the world, so if you travel around some region once, you can quickly and efficiently move through it always.

In general, I would like to give this game a higher score, but considering how terribly tedious the last dozen hours turned out to be and how few memorable stories, dialogues, events were in it as a whole and in proportion to the time spent in particular, we have what we have.

If the map had been much smaller, the story much shorter, and the quests much fewer, the game would have been much better to experience and enjoy. However, the fact that they explicitly and shamelessly sold "time-savers" for this suggests that the main concern wasn't making the best possible game, but the most profitable one.

It was huge disappointment which left me like not finishing the game after 90 invested hours. After this enormous time I was looking forward to already finish the game and move to something else. I believe most mature players these days have enough money, but they do not have enough time (e.g. I will not be able to finish in my life all the games and books which I own). From the authors of the games I would expect to prepare the game as good as possible without any fillers and with proper ending respecting its players (and customers of the authors). Quality is more than quantity and Assassins Creed franchise is not the type of game like Monster Hunter. The proper length would be approx. 40-50 hours. Or at least the mains missions (like hunt for cultist) should not be hidden between hundreds of side quests.

Also the movement is little bit clunky and fighting is quite simple. I have played RDR2 right before it and then started Death Stranding. Both these games has much better feeling of moving in real environment.

Simply said without great characters and ancient Greek setting, I would enjoy the game much less.

Wow the creators make you grind tons of side missions or you can't beat main missions. Have no fear time savers can be brought in a single player game. Glad I have continued the trend to buy Ubi-soft games pre-owned for a long time. These Ubi-Soft jokers don't get a single coin out of me anymore, because of these types of anti-consumer practices. This could of been a good game to beat the best Black Flag if Ubi-soft didn't let the usual God level of greed get in the way, oh well.

Yes it is Ubisoft game and yes it games repetitive and boring sometimes. But ignoring the fact that it's an AC game, it deserves a 8/10.

What do you want more from an open world game? It’s one of the great game who has gorgeous graphic and amazing fighting physics. Good job, Ubi!

I couldn't decide if it is 6 or 7 score, but it doesn't really matter. The game is really big, there is a lot of questions marks and that's the problem. The game is too long for those who normaly go to work. So sometimes I really forgot what's the mission, why I dont like someone and the oposite. And at the end it was just sunday after lunch brainwashing running from quest to quest.I couldn't decide if it is 6 or 7 score, but it doesn't really matter. Combat system is nothing new and definetly not something like Dark souls, as I read on other reviews.

    Graphics is nice.
    Repetitive quests get me bored.

I cared more for these characters and the world than I ever did in previous Assassin’s Creed games, and I think that’s part of why this reboot is so successful. Playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey left me feeling valiant and triumphant as I worked my way up the cultist food chain, and and I was always excited to see what Kassandra was off to discover next.

If someone had told me couple of years ago that Assassin’s Creed would become a full-fledged action RPG that would not look out of place on a shelf next to The Witcher 3, I would have snickered. But here I am, over 80 hours into Odyssey and still unable to believe that really happened. [12/2018, p.44]

It also commits a few of the same sins: in particular, the deluge of gar drops feels vaguely insulting, conditioning the player to lust after items exclusive to the in-game store. It's lifted, however, by the relative wit and intelligence of its quest design, and the delicate notes of uncertainty and curiosity introduced by Exploration mode. [Christmas 2018, p.108]
