The first Assassin's Creed game I've played since Black Flag which I could never get into. Odyssey on the other hand was a great game to play. Having the choice between playing as Alexios or Kassandra was a great addition. I probably put 60-70 hours in to the game which was definitely a little more than I had bargained for when I picked the game up. My main complaints with the game were the late game dragging a little bit, and the ship battles. My main positives were the world and story, the customization options and some major side quests.

When you are gearing up to finish off the main baddies in this game towards the end, it can be a bit of a drag completing lesser side quests to get to the proper level to fight certain enemies. This is a minor gripe though as a lot of side quests are actually interesting, although pretty fetch questy at times. The combat does get pretty repetitive, but switching weapon types really helped. A much more major problem for me was the ship combat, it was why I couldn't get in to Black Flag, but it's a little more tolerable here. The Upgrade system seems a little steep starting out before you climb the mercenary ranks. However, ship battles never seemed to go well unless it was one on one and I found when I needed to kill specific enemies on ships, I much preferred pulling my ship within 200 meters, jumping off and swimming up to the enemy ships, which could take a lot of time if they kept sailing the opposite direction. The ships are also the only place I experienced noticeable glitches. Those came in the form of horrifically contorted enemies when fighting on ships. This was actually quite humorous and only happened twice very late in game. I did enjoy the ship customization and the sailing songs were quite enjoyable.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Features a Massive open world that's beautiful and full of Greek lore and ton's of character. The story was entertaining and I ended with the good ending so that probably helped. The little speech options here and there added a little bit of flare to some quests without going overboard and the fights against Mythological Creatures were very cool albeit a bit simplistic mechanically, as was most combat. But through that combat comes the loot that you equip and in my opinion is one of the best areas of the game. This game has almost every quality of life feature for the equipment that I wanted. Have a nice set of armor, but want to see your characters head? Toggle the helmet off and keep the armor bonus. Have a nice set of armor, but it's underleveled? You have two options here! You can change the armor to look like any style you've already looted and keep the armor bonuses of the higher set or you can upgrade them to be the same level as you, if your weapons or armor have engravings you want to keep. The side quests in this game did provide some good interest, hunting legendary animals and fighting mythological creatures being high points. And some very likable non main characters, my favorites being Diona, Daphnae, and Odessa.

The skill trees fall into a positive and negative. The skills were good but there weren't enough non ability skills for me to spend my skill points on. Late game it felt like I was wasting ability points. The abilities were fun to play around with and the overpowered attacks were cool. Late game the main draw, the spartan kick, becomes nearly useless as most enemies no longer fly off cliffs, understandably to just keep you from spartan kicking everyone but come on.

Overall the game is pretty cheap to pick up now, and definitely worth what you'd pay for it, about $15-20. This still feels like a $60 game so getting it now is definitely a good decision.

This is, bar none, the best of the AC series. Kudos to Ubisoft and their team for constantly updating the mechanics. It has all the best bits of all previous AC games and adds new roleplaying stuff. Plus the story is great and the world is HUGE. It's almost always on some kind of sale so don't miss out on this open world marvel.

About 90 hours in, finished all the main questlines, and a good portion of the sidequests.

The map is huge, but not empty or boring feeling. There's always something to do, something to see, or a secret to uncover in any part of the map (outside of the ocean areas, for the most part). There is some repitition to the side tasks, but the gameplay is good enough to not make them feel

The map is huge, but not empty or boring feeling. There's always something to do, something to see, or a secret to uncover in any part of the map (outside of the ocean areas, for the most part). There is some repitition to the side tasks, but the gameplay is good enough to not make them feel monotonous, in my opinion, like I've felt in some other huge games. The level of detail they've put into the world is on an elite tier, and it's almost worth the price to just walk around looking at everything.

The gameplay & combat would be aptly described as something similar to The Witcher 3 with a well integrated stealth mechanic as its focus. Or, perhaps like the Arkham games in its combination of stealth and direct combat. You can choose to stealthily take out an entire camp of soldiers, and then take on the captain 1 v 1, you could stealth the entire camp including the captain (if you invest enough in the assassination mechanic), or you can take on the whole camp in direct combat if you want. All three approaches feel fleshed out enough mechanically to make them viable.

The story was fairly engaging, and I felt the animation and voice acting for the most part was pretty solid. I used Kassandra, however, so I'm not sure how playing as Alexios might change one's experience.

A criticism may be that the inclusion of so many cash store items (ship skins, crew skins in particular) feels like it hurt the amount of customization you can find game-only in these areas.

Overall, I would give this a 9.5 rounded up to a 10. I don't know if this game is for everyone -- it's massive and not something you can 100% without putting a LOT of time in -- but if you're into games like The Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc, you'll probably really enjoy playing this.

This is the best game ever made. There are so many kids who harass the makers of this game and say it is not an assassin's creed game. They should grow up. The developers must create new content and games to profit. The behavior of these dumb kids is very annoying.

Это первая игра, в которую приходится заставлять себя играть.Я не понимаю, зачем в играх стали уродовать женских персонажей. If I could compare this to something it would be Fallout New Vegas, whereby the game was an improved, but a brand new, impressively beautiful game based on mechanics from Fallout 3. Give it a try, play it for a bit, ignore the microtransations and you'll have a blast. It seems that people on here are also struggling to accept this franchise is evolving, and if you began to play this game expecting the classic, traditional AC game we've been getting since 2007 (in spite of it being advertised as a full blown RPG and clear diversion from the predecessors) you're a fool. Behind all of the microtransations and grindy gameplay is a great game with a beautiful aesthetic of greek culture and history. But sadly the game bases its game play on these micrtransactions and they cast a shadow on this review as a whole. It is basically Assassins Creed Origins but located in ancient Greece rather than Ptolemaic Egypt. But even in Origins the mechanics weren't as grind heavy as there were at least ways to gather resource quickly in the form of attacking shipments of resources and taking them. Here there is no such mechanic and finding resources in order to upgrade your armor and weapons will be one of the hardest things you will have to do in this game. Of course the reason behind this grind is that they sell resource kits filled with material required to upgrade in their online store. in some cases I had armor in my sets that were 20 levels behind my current cap at level 50 because at that level the amount of resources required to upgrade were as much as 600 to 700 just for one upgrade and as a reference the most I have gotten from an ore is 10. So these mechanics alone are enough to drive my score down to a 5. But everything in combination heavily outweighs any of the good that is to be seen in this game. The amount of detail in this game is breathtaking and it seems Ubisoft really did their research when looking up how life in Greece really was in this time period. instead of plain white marble structures everything is painted and beautifully filled with color much like at the time period. And Greek pronunciations and dialect are a welcome change from the whitewashed hockey British accents you see in most film set in ancient Greece. Now while being historically authentic to culture and aesthetic doesn't mean they got everything right. For the love of god where is the hoplite warfare that was indicative of the time period. Why are there so many Spartan ships. Why do they make this war seem like it lasted a couple of weeks when it was really 30 years. Why is the plague played down so little when it was really the main reason Athens lost the conflict. Why is this spartan soldier fighting with two maces who did it. Not having his shield alone was enough for him to lose his spartan citizenship.
This games combat is enjoyable just like origins and most of it was copy and pasted from origins to fit this game. And specific bows aren't necessary for specific actions they were added onto the skill tree for this game instead which is a welcome change of pace for bow combat.
Characters are also interesting and engaging. Though much of your interaction with them is forced rather than something that is sought out. As stated above this game is incredibly grindy. So in order to progress through the main story you a forced to do these sidequests rather than wanting to do them on your own. Use The Witcher 3 on how you should base secondary mission element into your game. So even in character development microtransations rear their ugly face into this game. Although I did enjoy my discussions with Sokrates and Alkibiades though I will never understand why they made him so effeminate. But if you want to hear me ramble and say the **** word more times than can be counted check out my review on my youtube channel.

Yes naval battles are back and they are super similar to Black Flag's mechanics. Boarding works the same, shooting works the same, although its arrows instead of cannons, and upgrading your ship has a game play loop to it that is really satisfying. You can even customize the look. The biggest change to the Ship mechanic would be the Lieutenants. Lieutenants add perks to the ship like plus damage, or plus armor, etc. They also have uses when boarding a ship. They fight right alongside you. Like gear these Lieutenants range from common to legendary status. Speaking of gear. If you were like me and wished Origins had armor that wasn't just cosmetic, or wanted a change from the status quo upgrading the same armor you have the entire game then Odyssey is your jam. Now armor pieces consist of 5 types. Head, chest, legs, arms, and waist. Each piece has their perks and range from common, to legendary. Weapons are still the same from Origins. Sword, double swords, staffs, maces, axes, spears, etc. However bows have changed and work nothing like origins. Now you only carry one at all times and upgrade perks to make it do stuff like the predator bow did when you followed a shot to the target. Or shoot 4 arrows out of time with the Multiple shot perk. And you can FINALLY craft arrows. That was a much welcome change for me. Listen, Odyssey deserves a chance. If you are one of those people saying "this isn't an Assassin's Creed game!" Ok then it's not now play it it is still good enough to warrant your time and money. The value alone is exemplary. Giving you tons more hours of play than any previous AC games. All I am asking is that you keep an open mind, and before you completely write this game off just try it. You might be pleasantly surprised. My one and only gripe is the heavy push at micro-transactions. You will get to a point where you have to grind for hours to get to the level whatever the Next story mission is at, and it's quite clear what Ubisolft's intentions are. To get you to purchase Helix credits so that you can get XP boosters, better gear, etc. It isn't all bad though. This kinda forced me to explore the world looking for locations to complete, and I ended up getting WAY better gear for doing so. It just throws the pacing off quite heavily. Ok, ok I'm done now. Just try it before ya criticize it. Expand

For brands that are trying to reinvent itself I think this is the best example of doing it successfully without completely rebooting the franchise. If you play your looking at enough content to rival a Bethesda game (fallout/elder scrolls). Assassins creed is no longer a weekend and done sort of game. it is a grind with good story, romances, and choices (sound familiar?). The micro transactions are a bit troubling yes, hence an 8/10, but they are not completely invasive. You can play this game without it and be perfectly fine. Gamer's DO NOT buy games with these micro transactions in. it's not good enough to buy a game and simply ignore the MTs! They will grow with each release. Just look at orgins, it slipped in and now they are slowly notching it up the boosts etc. its slow creep. don't fall for it!

These games do not need to make there game worse but adding this balance breaking nonsense into single player games, increase the ticket price by £10 if you really need and give a full balanced experience.

From now on it should be known as called Assassins Greed.

Although the game can be fun at times, especially when fighting multiple bounty hunters, raiding camps and big battles, the story is full of inconsistencies which is not helped by the abysmal voice acting of the protagonists and mediocre and sometimes exaggerated animations.
By a simple comparison, this game makes Unity look like a million bucks.
I would recommend waiting for a sale on this one.

However. I can say that with a lot of assurance, not just the hype of them oment.
Assassins creed odyssey has been the best assassins creed game I ever played!!!

I love the game, the more freedom of choices, something I understand didn't exist in previous games, but I like it now.

I love the combat, the parry, the skills and passives added.
I love the naval battles brought back
I love the athens sparta war, and how you can influence who controls a region, it is so fun.
and of the best features is the enhanced mercenary system from origins. I love h ow they hunt you down if you become notorious. I love how they try to mess with you even when you are doing other quests or other afairs, it adds so much more depths and longevity to the game!!

Odyssey is a well made game..yes it is open world and yes it has strong RPG elements. Yes it borrows from the Witcher 3 and Shadow of Mordor/War however it stands on its own as a very good game that is fun to play. I have now played Odyssey for more than 57 hours on Nightmare thus far, and I am still enjoying myself very much. Odyssey takes place in the Assassin's Creed universe but prior to the formation of the Assassin Order. Change is not always good but neither is change always bad. Having said that, Odyssey is not a bad game nor is it a great game however it is a very good game. If you don't like open world or you don't like RPG games and/or you want a carbon copy of the earlier Assassin's Creed games then Odyssey will most likely not be for you, but don't be childish and deliberately under rate it because it is not the "Assassin's Creed" game you wanted. There will be a lot of people who liked the earlier Assassin's Creed games, such as myself, who will also like Odyssey just as a lot of people who didn't like the earlier Assassin's Creed games may like Odyssey because of the changes. I could understand a 5 or 6 rating from the Assassin's Creed fans who wanted a carbon copy (even though I don't agree with such a low rating) however anything less than 5 is just asinine. What I am is saying is I understand Odyssey will not be for everyone. The same can be said for pretty much every game. Even my beloved The Last of Us is not going to affect every gamer the way it did me and many other gamers too!!! Just be fair in your ratings people...otherwise you make the gaming community look pathetic. This last comment is also directed at Fan boys who deliberately under rate exclusives from systems they don't own. BTW I also hate micro transactions and have never purchased them...but unlike what some people claim, it is not necessary to purchase them to enjoy Odyssey. Odyssey is not as "grindy" as some people claim but it is a RPG so if you don't like RPGs then you probably won't like Odyssey. Don't whine about it...just play a different game that is more like what you want and like. We all knew (or ought to have known) via the internet what type of game Odyssey was going to be...you could have cancelled your pre-order, so stop being butt hurt. This is my opinion and if I hurt the feelings of any of you who deliberately under rated Odyssey than you prove my point that you are immature and childish. You are entitled to your opinions about Odyssey too however if you are honest with yourselves you would admit Odyssey doesn't deserve a rating less than 5. I love gaming and I love the vast variety of games being created for our enjoyment. Happy gaming everybody and I hope you realize we are in a golden age of gaming. Expand

I'm used to played Assassin's Creed: Origins, i'm surprise for how big the game was, but big doesn't meant good, The story was bad, very unimpressive, villains was totally hollow, unimpressive, enemies base everywhere, bad area level locked etc. i though Origin was bad until i seen Odysseys, completely horrifying game.
Why don't you make new IP instead of slapped AC tittle everywhere, there is no Assassin in main game like The Witcher without Witcher if you wanted to say because it got first civilization factor in game then maybe i will just put the silver sword and medallion in The Witcher game then.
Just i don't really understand what the meaning of there score reviews, good landscape, mainstream RPG, or area level locked ? So if you put in an very unimpressive story but covering it under flowery blanket you suddenly got highs score ?
I'm an old and loyal Assassin's Creed fan, i love the game and the story until i seen this, how long it gonna be until the same peoples who used to defended this game bashing it. Threw away your loyal fanbase, make them started civil war, very "good" direction right.
And where the hell is Sorcerer class ? Wizard ? Magic User ? It suppose to be RPG right ? What an disappointed.
And the characters acting was very cringe by the way i see, try too hard to make thing look lively ? No it not how it work.
AC games was an very old franchise, and the story go literally nowhere, how long you gonna extended it ? After Desmond then Layla then who next ? David ? Jobe ? Lanna ? Tyuuui ? Barri ?
Everybody can have flowery blanket to roll them self in but are they all good peoples ? No.
I doubt all there defenders know what making a good game or even play an game, they are like just buy the most flowery game to test their CPU...
The game was big, yes, but for me it totally empty because very bad and repeated activities, i'm sorry but quality over quantity.
You got an very nice chance to revise the game by Juno plot you kicked it away and replace with this totally bad story.
Sure this game on "good" direction, maybe i will see it later when there is Wizard class available.

This is a game that takes away the usually design type of AC games and allows you to tackle any quest the way you feel. It may not feel like an AC game, but your combat style can change that. You can become the Assassin you want to be rather than what the story makes it. Side quest are great and combat is finally challenging. Overall this game deserves attention and its mark in the series!

The game artificially extends its duration by making the player waste time doing secondary missions that are boring and feel more like homework than an actual game. This is of course to encourage microtransactions, as well as to keep players online for longer than they would, if they could just play the history.

This game is not Assassins Creed, not in the terms we have come to expect. It instead seems to focus on a piece of Eden "very powerful weapon/tool" in the Assassins Creed universe, but makes no mention of Assassins or Templars. The series seems to be stepping more and more away from the genre that made it successful and into a full on RPG, which is fine. Except in order to make an RPG successful you need a great leveling system and an amazing story. Only problem is that every quest in the game is the same. Go to X and kill Y soldiers or go to Y and get X loot. It is repetitive to the extreme. The story is small and seems distant to all the repetitive quests. This game goes back to what made Black Flag so successful and that is the open seas and sea battles. That again seems distant and forced as it seems 90% of quests and story is on the main land.
Do not get me started on the micro transactions. I spent $140 on the ultimate edition but am still trying to figure out what that bought me aside from the base game and some gear that is level 1 and is to expensive to upgrade unless you use real money to buy crafting materials. I have spent an additional $70 on maps, and boosters. Things that should have come with that $140 ultimate edition. Yes boosters are required in this game unless you want to spend hours getting one level past 25. Some people might say but leveling is part of an RPG. True it is... but not like this.

This game is just Origins with a new coat of paint, but terrible story.

This is the worst Assassins Creed game I have ever played and it hurts me to say that about my beloved series. The only reason it gets a 5 is because of the name Assassins Creed.

Alexios' acting and facial expressions are really stiff. The writing is questionable. I like the RPG options and the romance options, giving the LGBTQ community the space it surely needs in gaming,
HAVING SAID THAT, the should have done it more tastefully, some of this rare ocassions seem really creepy.

Scenery is nice, yet TOO SAMEY. Gears are nice. The fighting system is really difficult to master for a casual gamer. The grinding here is INSANE to level up. It's an OPEN WORLD, yet not quite. Because you could be minding your own business out and about and plan to make your way to some fort just to arrive there and find that they're 20+ levels above you.

So far, it's a nice game. Unless it turns really bad towards the end. I haven't beaten it yet, it's really THAT big.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is the latest instalment in the long Ubisoft's flagship franshise and it's the biggest one yet, set in ancient greece it's an ambitious game that tries to improve on everything last year's Origins did, but can he do it?
Odyssey it's an full on Action-RPG with hundreds of weapons and armor pieces to equip and costumize your character with, you level up by doing pretty much anything in the game, from side quests to locations scatered around the map and obviously the main story, combat is very similar to Origins but this time you have different combat skills you can equip to give you an edge during combat, i've never had a problem with the level gaps that everyone seems to complain about, and I never felt like I was forced to level up to progress the story, just casually playing through doing main and side content as I pleased felt rewarding, challenging on some parts, but never unfair.
The story is one of the best in the series, and despite the game being set before Assassin's or Templars wore even a thing "it's set more than 300 year's before Origins" it's since Black Flag, the game that takes it's role in the series more seriously, and is very important to the overall arc of the story.
The main issue lies with Odysseys biggest selling point, this game is BIG, really big, perhaps too big, and this growing trend of developers adding more and more stuff to their games without much care for the quality of the overall experience hurts the game more than it helps, it's a game that would benefit if it took out around 50 hours of it's content, don't get me wrong, there is a lot of amazing side quests to find, another improvemet from Origins, and does encourage exploration of it's massive world, but for all this improvements over Origins, the exaggerated amount of content keeps Odyssey from it's true potential.
After 155 hours I finally did it all and seen it all in Odyssey, it's a massive and surprisingly polished game, that has your money's worth, don't go expeting the game to keep it's consistent high quality trough all of it's content, It's an extremely solid and fun RPG, that it's buried under too much pointless stuff, but it's ultimately an Odyssey that I'm happy I took

They covered their butts on that one. This title isn’t as detailed or anywhere near anything to do with Assassins creed beyond the play style and the artifact that is a pyramid and not an apple. Other than that you’re playing a AC version of the Witcher which has been described many times in other reviews. The skill system and quest system are severely lacking and overplayed. They make you now seek out your quest location on the map giving vague details to extend playtime because of you were guided you would finish in no time. Story is ok, cutscenes lack a bit and the graphics aren’t as great as you would expect. I’m playing the PC on dual1080ti at 4K 60FPS and it’s not like you would imagine it should be. The story is totally out of sync with history using women in battle and half of the mercenary that come for you are women. Umm in Ancient Greece and Rome women did not go to battle, they aren’t allowed even in the camp! How they came to this realization is beyond me and it’s quite annoying how bad Ubisoft has gone off the rails with this story. This editions feels like it’s a fast release to boost profit overlaying the Origins engine and tossing together quick missions that aren’t detailed and lackluster unlike Origins which had huge detailed side missions and took you places keeping you into the story. It’s just a grind fest for levels. Kill this animal bring back the pelts, get this herb bring it back to help. The one thing of note they introduced was tha ability to win over the NPC so you can take them to bed and have sex. Both Hetro and Homosexual encounters are featured depending how you wish to play. Beyond that they took the open map, shrunk it down and added tons of mountains to make it feel big but bottom line is it’s small really. Distances compared to origins are 1/4 from place to place versus ACO. So many other touch points I could go into. This game is a letdown as I feared it would be and I wish I wouldn’t ha r paid the $99.99 to play early. Would have waited had it not been overhyped all year. Ubisoft did it again and I predicted they would. They overplayed their hand and totally went off course from the creeds core story. It’s honestky got nothing to do with it. This is a story of a man who was cast out and now you’re on a mission to find out your lineage and get revenge. Beyond that this isn’t your regular Assasisins Creed. My advice, wait for a sale. Cons
    Voice acting.
Repeatable quests with no real content.
Combat systems feels blank, block, dodge, attack realy simple.
Naval systems (black flag was more rewarding in my book).
    Griding feast to lvl up.

    That's my take

That's not an Assassin's Creed game anymore. If I wanted to play an RPG I play The Witcher 3, wich is a better option by far. They change to much their game, and not always in a better way... And I don't even want to talk about that **** combat system! I'm sad that AC is just a shadow of what it used to be.

One of the best AC's in years. Though it doesn't live up to Origins for me, its far better than anything since the Ezio Trilogy. My only real complaint is that enemy scaling sucks and eliminates the drive to level up. Its a terrible mechanic in every game its been used in

So many are having melt downs that it's not the same formula as the failing previous AC games, I've played just about all of them and if they go back there's no way I will play an AC game again. BEST best move UBISOFT has ever made, I actually logged into my Ubisoft

Whilst I wouldn't fall for this corporate mess in a month of mondays, I do applaud Ubisoft on managing to continually mug legions of people off, time, after time, after time..... Frankly, it's impressive.

I was wrong in most of my assumptions. The game certainly does borrow 1 or 2 things from origins however instead of ruining proven features, it instead builds on them taking the franchise to new heights.

I dont know why people are complaining about the animations, i have found them to be very very fluid and the combat system has been refined. The quests are great and the RPG elements really do not diminish the game in anyway rather they enhance it.

Furthermore the mercenary system draws heavily from the nemesis system from Shadow of War and makes for some truly unique gameplay experiences.

Please do not listen to the naysayers, they are simply angry that the franchise is taking a path different to what it has been stuck on for the past 11 years. The game has progressed and there is nothing stopping you from being an assassin.

If you liked origins and black flag you will absolutely love this game. 10/10

The basic are, you're playing a character who is of Spartan decent. The game is centered around the Peloponnesian war; you know! the one with Hoplites, Spartans, Athenians, a few Persians, and a lot of SHIELD wall. The first thing that comes to mind is why the decided to remove shields from the game? The beginning of the game is pretty much the copy of the movie 300; a bunch of naked guys in spears and shields fighting on the Persian. As soon as the cutscene end, you start playing and your shield is gone? Why? why make the setting about Spartan, Shield wall if you remove that option for the player. Isn't that weird?

You may think I'm petty, but I'm not. There is a reason why i bring up the shield issue first. So let start with the review. this game is badly optimized. I have a GTX1070, SSD, i5-8600, and 16 gb Ram. I get about 30-35 FPS (with occasional dips) playing at 1440p. The game has a big big problem with reloading if you die. If my character dies, I basically have to restart the game. I don't understand! It's the same engine with a few tweaks like previous game but it runs much worse

The combat is weird. The previous title Assassin's Creed Origins (hence forth ACO), had shield, 2 handed weapons, dual wield dagger, swords, a few other weapons. Why does this game remove shield? Why does it remove 2 handed items? Why does this game standardize the weapon type and damage? A level 15 axe does the same damage as a lvl 15 dagger, spear, mace? There is no difference in damage, just the look of the combo. The previous game had more depth, even if it was a little. The game has another issues with hot boxes, you will have plenty of moment where you weapon is hitting an enemy, but it's not registering. There is NO block, you are expect to dodge, or parry. For the most part, you will be dodging backwards and doing a few hits; you will repeat this for the majority of the game. Why do you ask? Mostly because the enemy type don't change. When you have a simple combat as this game, you need to introduce enemies that fight differently, that require different approaches. Instead, even on the hardest difficulty, you will be doing the same 3 things in battle

The story is...bland. It feels like the game a distant cousin of fallout series; horrible; bland, no emotions....BORING.

The side contest is good; it's rivaling games like Witcher 3 but still need some work.

Ultimately, the game feels grindy because they added level scaling, then made it very annoying to get certain upgrades without buying (with real money). You will never feel like you're strong because of the enemy leveling scaling. It feels like Ubisoft doesn't know what they want their game to be; they are clearing adding elements from other games, God of War 4, Witcher 3, previous games AC games. By doing this, they are adding element that don't quite work together.

You can't have a game with so many weapon type but refusing you add some kind of niche to each use. They all feel the same. These types of stuff are all around the game; they drag it down. This game had the potential to be

if you're itching to playing a game like this, i recommend playing Witcher 3. If you haven't played it, it's far superior in many ways. Otherwise, buy yourself the ACO or wait for this game to go on scale. At it's current state, it's a bad game, It's very shameful to see reviewers give this game a 9 and not even mention any problems with the game

And you can't exactly be like "Well, I don't feel like doing sidequests right now, I'll just focus on the main storyline" cuz your level will be too low. Of course, there is a way around this for 20 bucks which is an insult really. It also makes the replay value very low (in case you want to play with both characters) because it means you'll be forced to do all the sidequests all over again to keep your lvl up to par. I for one do not want to pay an extra 20 bucks. I am rather pissed off about this but what to do about it.

Now, if the game was flawless I might enjoy it more. It's not. Immersion is kinda ruined rather often when you can't run up a staircase and you have to move like an inch to the right, when while running around in the world you suddenly freeze cuz the world has to load, when you shoot an arrow at someone and miss cuz the npc is bugged into a location and warps away when you should've hit him thus alarming half the camp. Once I had an enemy duplicate himself when I struck him. Climbing onto stuff doesn't work rather often. (again, moving to the left or right by an inch or two fixes it, but it's annoying) It's also annoying a bit to me that characters level up with you. If I have to quickly do something in an old area, it's not really quickly. I don't really understand why they removed the option to level up enemies like Origins had.

Yeah, the world is big, but because of it it gets old fast. I don't see myself actually finishing this game, it's become a drag to play it, not a joy. If you like to grind and just explore get it, otherwise, stick with Origins.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As with Origins, this years creed installment is a welcome change. The RPG elements are what this game needed to feel fresh, the combat was much improved on the last game (still room for improvement). The narrative was solid, the high seas ship battles are welcomed in their return and the mini nemesis system for the mercenary’s was also pretty cool.

What isn’t great is the game world is big. The issue with this is sometimes the areas feel they are big just to be big, there is nothing to fill those areas with interesting things to find. A good chunk of side quests were very fetch like, this isn’t a problem if during that quest it guides you to a more substantial find (think Skyrim and the Witcher 3). Speaking of fetch quests I am starting to hate the old get something for me and bring it back, I am hoping in the near future these type of “filler” quests will be revolutionised somehow, most of the things you fetched in this game Ikaros could have flown it back for you, rather then sit through a load screen or ride all the way back just to give a guy a stone **** (yep it’s a thing).

Assassins Creed Odyssey is just like the epic poem but not in verse but in content. This game places you directly into a land of adventure, politics, and family turmoil. I was wonderfully surprised how many things to do there are in this game. Back in 2007 when I first played Assassins Creed I was drawn to the interesting world but was quickly bored with the lack of unique things to do in the game. Now 11 years later that problem is gone.

I am about 37 hours into the game at this point and have not finished it but I cannot put it down. Assassin Creed Odyssey is not perfect in anyway but that’s almost what I like about it. I think of Odyssey like a Jack-of-all-Trades, but a master of none. It’s not the best RPG, it doesn’t have the best stealth, or even good combat. Its story is rather simple and there are only a few characters really worth mentioning. But I like that it has all of these elements and that they work well together.

I do really enjoy the game so far and I plan on getting the platinum trophy on the PS4. That’s a claim for only a few games I own. Assassins Creed Odyssey is really fun to play. And I really love that it gave me a new curse word. Malaka, which I guess, is like calling someone an **** But hell, I will always give a game bonus points for teaching me a new way to curse.

Now there is a pretty big issue I have with Assassins Creed Odyssey. As the name implies the game is about assassinations and stealth. Odyssey has 3 types of combat that break down to melee, bow, and assassinations. Melee and bow are pretty straightforward. They are not that elegant but you can mix the two together to make combat interesting and dynamic.

However, assassinations are a bit lackluster. There are only a few ways to assassinate someone and that is by sneaking up behind them, jumping down from above, or using an assassin’s ability. This can feel a bit repetitive which sucks because it’s really the best way to kill people in the game. Assassinations do so much damage that you can’t avoid it. That brings me to stealth because that is even worse.

The stealth in Assassins Creed Odyssey is literally just crouching in bushes. To become invisible you just crouch. The only additional option that you really have to mix it up is to hide in bushes. Hiding in the bushes make you completely invisible some times even to touch by the enemy. I wish they had added some variety to it like peeking around corners, pulling enemies from windows, etc. Because stealth and assassinations are so strong and easy I find myself just running around crouch stabbing people from enemy to enemy. This quickly feels like I am cheating the game a bit because it’s so simple and powerful.

If you get caught and break stealth then all you really need to do is run away. It’s that simple no matter what happens you can always run away and then re-stealth. There is one exception I found while in a Fort. If found, one of the enemies can light a signal fire which signals other soldiers and that can make it tricky to continue. I actually like this mechanic because it encourages true stealth and not gaming the system. I wish the transition from stealth to combat were harder to disengage. This would make getting caught more dramatic and dangerous.

My last gripe before I move onto a few more things I really like about he game is the climbing. All Assassins Creed games have this problem and I cannot believe it’s still the same old song and dance. The climbing is sporadic and hard to control. I tried to climb into a window for 2 minutes because Alexios (the male main character) kept jumping past it, then aside it, then back over it again. Alexios also will try and climb things while in combat when I didn’t mean it to happen. Yea, I probably suck but this should be a non-issue by now. This series has been out for 11 years!

That being said I really do love this game. The world is vast and the quests are plentiful. It never seems to get too repetitive either. There is just enough story mixed into the side quests to keep me interested without feeling bogged down with information and the progression system keeps me coming back for more. I want to complete some quest I just picked up because it will give me a piece of gear that I want; Or maybe it will put me over the edge in experience so I can get a new ability.

Let´s start with the dialog and story (NO SPOILERS), so the dialogs system tries to be like witcher 3 dialog but unfortunantley falls flat, in one mission I tried calming down a little girl and appeard a dialog for it but what my Alexios said was a brutally opinion and harmed the poor girl´s feelings and this type of dialogs are spread in all the game side quests and main missions. The flashbacks are cheesy with no impact at all, and the romance system is so boring, it doesn´t requiered attetion to the character you trying to romance, just press the romance of option and BAM you just got a hot date with a boring no meaningful character, were in other games you need to actually put effort in doing it.
Now the combat: Origins did a great job evolving AC combat and it was simple, functonal, with a functional lock-system. But un AC Odyssey is a complete mess, the parry requieres two buttons to work LB+RB which if you ask me is pointless, when in other games like witcher 3, dark souls, origins, etc., you only press one button for the parry and it worked so good because hey just requieres pressing one simple button. When you hold LB for a special attack or parry, your character is completley vulnerable and thanks to the delay of buttons in the game, you´ll end up getting hit, (NOTE: Im playing this game on nightmare mode), the lock system is crazy, with a small move the joystick you´ll change the lock to multiple enemies, a cool feature on ORIGINS was when you were close to a structure, plant, fence, etc., you could see through those things so you wouldn´t miss the character and concencrete fully on the battle, when AC Odyssey doesn´t have that helpful feature and last but not least the special attacks are broken, specially the spartan kick, you know your game has problems when people abuse the special attacks and that makes the game unchallenging when they´re charge.
Difficulty: like I said, Im playing on nightmare mode. As someone who loves a challenge, the difficulty on AC is not challenging but absurd, when Im fighting against the legedary animals Im so concentrated on them that when all they call more animals to aid the "boss" my enjoyment is completely ruin by a bad game design wich is that, when you are fighting a boss is suppose to be between you and the boss and not their minions+boss and the problems mentioned before made the battles more frustrating and the same goes to captains, ORIGINS nightmare mode made it fair and challenging. -OH JUST LOWER THE DIFFICULTY DOWN, yeah like lowering down the difficulty will fix the problems of game design in the game.
    Special features:
Bounty: the bounty was a create concept, but poorly introduced. Mercenaries appeared out of nowhere next to you after 5 seconds into the bounty, they´re crazy powerful or weak mercenaries, they aren´t divieded by zones. The phylakitais on ORIGINS worked so much better, all of them were powerful but fair and divided by zones.
System Isolation: I hate the new armor/lvl/combat system, they isolate the stealth, combat and ranged combat. When I tried doing my playthrough stealthy I was completley rekt, why? Simple, my assassin armor was weak, and if I used the hunter or warrior armor, they´ll decreased my stealth damage, at the en I gave up on my stealth playthrough and went combat only which is a shame since I love my stealth missions and playthrough. The bows are completley useless even with full hunter armor. Games like MGSV, origins, metro, etc. Reward you for stealth and aren´t isolated by a stupid and painful system isolation.
Animations: thanks to the poorly lock system, the mess of a combat system, and bad game desing, the animations paid a huge price specially on the combat, they are so many bad animations for the enemies that I usually miss a parry thanks the to poorly made animations, some enemies will hit you with an invisible attack that connected with you even 2mts away. And the climbing, I always get stuck on various parts of the maps thanks to a poorly placed polygon or bad programming.
Enemies: the female enemies with spears are crazy powerful, they´ll hit you non-stop even if you hit them they wont flinch at all, the big ones are easy but with creazy powerful attacks, but mostly easy, the one handed sword are fast for its own good, and then the shield ones thata are like mountain with a crazy defense or weak defense. There is no balance and so many other enemies that are more broken than FOR HONOR at launch.
I could keep going and say more about the problems about this game, but Im running out of characters. So at the end, DO NOT HEAR THE GAME JOURNALIST AND GAME CRITIQUES LIKE IGN AND GAMESTOP, they were paid to said good things about this game (like always). After this awful expirience Im never buying a game from ubisoft quebec ever again.

It's great, haven't played Origins, but in contrast to others here I really like what Assassin's Creed has become, I was definitely burned out of the old formula. If you like games like the Witcher 3, then you will like this. Lol at 0 etc scores.

This game is so freaking frustrating because of all of theses bugs, freezes and constant clipping (even during cinematic wtf???)... Aaaaaaahh ! Fix it please and I will change my review. I cannot believe all the press review, WE ARE NOT playing the same game, it is not a Triple A !
I don't get it why it is so laggy on a PS4 Pro !!!! All other games are working great even Origins is way

I liked AC Origins as it refreshed and breathed some much needed life into the AC franchise, and I was even willing to overlook the fact that it was less about Assassins and more about political warfare.

So why the two stars? Well, so much of this game is copy and pasted from Origins! It is far too similar, as if they literally reskinned characters, towns and missions from Origins and somehow did a bad job of it. There is not a lot of new content here really.

That been said, I could have understood the lack of new content since this was released a year after Origins, but it seems a year was not enough time to make new content but was ample time to shove in microtransactions within microtransactions! To save you and I time, just look up Jim Sterling's Jimpressions on YouTube for this game. He gives more detail. They have also made the game slower and more grindy to encourage people to PAY MORE MONEY to progress through the game faster.

Absolutely ridiculous. Avoid this tosh that isn't worth £20, never mind the ludicrous prices Ubisoft want you to pay. I've given up hope for this franchise now. It was one step forward and five steps back.

I don't know where to begin since this game is a complete and utter mess. The entire game is focused on selling microtransactions and every part of gameplay suffers from this because it's all created to make you want to buy them. Not to mention the constant FPS drops, loading while walking, loading while talking, loading...while doing everything always along with the bugs/glitches.

I think all the negative reviews come from a spoiled generation of gamers. Holy hell the graphics and gameplay for the ship battles, open world exploration and combat is what I dreamed about back in the day when I had Atari. It's a rare thing to be excited about wanting to go home from work to play a video game. But this one hit it for me. Thanks Ubisoft!! P.S. if you're a 300 movie fan, the references and scenes are hilarious and fun to watch/participate in. More entertaining than Ryse of Rome imo. Expand

These retarded people talk about GRIND, but they even dont know what is grind...grind is doing SAME thing over and over...but in AC:O is no grind, yes you must go to higher lvl to advance in story but you can lvl up and gather material thru 100 and 100 of different activities!!! so there is NO GRIND in this game, only tuns and tuns of content.
PS: if you dont want sidequests, play on EASY !

I'm glad This franchise went full RPG because though it may be as good as the witcher, it comes pretty damn close.

One of the games of the year. 10/10.

Whoever has given a negative review has not played a single hour from this excellent game. The ancient Greek open world is vibrant and majestic. The story is engaging and there is plenty of non boring side questing to do.
If you're male take my advice and play Kassandra. Thank me later!

I cared more for these characters and the world than I ever did in previous Assassin’s Creed games, and I think that’s part of why this reboot is so successful. Playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey left me feeling valiant and triumphant as I worked my way up the cultist food chain, and and I was always excited to see what Kassandra was off to discover next.

If someone had told me couple of years ago that Assassin’s Creed would become a full-fledged action RPG that would not look out of place on a shelf next to The Witcher 3, I would have snickered. But here I am, over 80 hours into Odyssey and still unable to believe that really happened. [12/2018, p.44]

It also commits a few of the same sins: in particular, the deluge of gar drops feels vaguely insulting, conditioning the player to lust after items exclusive to the in-game store. It's lifted, however, by the relative wit and intelligence of its quest design, and the delicate notes of uncertainty and curiosity introduced by Exploration mode. [Christmas 2018, p.108]
