Needs 10 more years of development with the most recent game engine. In its current state, Starfield has barely no optimizations and needs a 2030 computer setup to run properly. Bethesda also needs to kick her CEO out. At least I got my refund.

The game looks visually goog and some of the quests are really well made. The outpost and ship building mechanics are also pretty great.

Unfortunately, that's all the good I can say about the game. Most of the game is just boring, bland and utterly confusing. Main story is the posterchild of this - it's a 5+ hour long fetch quest that neither resolves nor explains anything.

Starmap is a mess and you can never find anything on it. The only way to travel to your quest destination is to open the destination from your quest log. This is followed by a few loading screens and then you're there. I didn't know where "there" was, most of the time. It was just another random starsystem.
On top of that, there's no map and there's no minimap. You have to rely on the quest markers to get somewhere, which tunnelvisions you into following the blue little dot on your screen.

Combat is boring and way too easy. I played on normal difficulty and I dont remember using a healing item in combat other then the end of main quest where I popped a few. AI is stupid and constantly forgets to shoot, takes cover where I can see it and it tries to use his gun for bashing instead of shooting.

Character building is non-excistant because very little depends on the skills. Combat skills let you do 30% more damage, health skills let you take a bit less damage and have 40% more health. That's about it. Also, lockpicking. Take lockpicking.
I finished the game on level 25. To unlock all the skills, you have to be level 350+ something so that pretty much means 90% of the skills will never be touched.

Crafting is pointless. Every single enemy loads a random weapon with all the variations of mods you can think of. Theres a good chance you will find that perfect weaopn for your build in half an hour. I did.

The planets are void of content. You can land on planets, but there's nothing to do on them. You can scan a few plants and rocks, you can kill a few pirates and collect weapons to sell. That's it. Maybe you get lucky and there's a fetch quest on that planet if you're willing to walk a few kilometers on foot.

The game pissed me off more then it entertained me. Bethesda should fire their UX team immediately and hire whoever makes SkyUI/StarUI mods.

Garbage game that doesn't live up to previous Bethesda titles and forced "preferred pronouns" that are forced on people. They say it's not a big deal, but then they ban mods that remove the "preferred pronoun" bs.

The outdated graphics, the game mechanics dating from 2011, the user interface worthy of an alpha version, no open world just small areas cut off by screen loadings, uninteresting NPC-walkers, so few in number and so not "lively", and more than anything, a story so uninspiring that as a player we tell ourselves that we are going to go to the end just to make the 70 dollars profitable, not because it is inspiring and fun. Also having you do most of your "exploration" through menus and loading screens is a baffling decision to me. If you liked Fallout 3 you'll love this game because it plays the exact same if there's one thing you can commend Bethesda for it's sticking to their roots for better or in this case for worse, the creation engine needs an overhaul.

I cannot comprehend anyone who gives this game better than a 7/10 unless they were paid to do so.

TLDR; Starfield has all the hallmarks of lazy Bethesda design with none of the charm or soul of their older games. If you take the procedural world of No Man's Sky, add in Fallout guns, and then subtract 90% of the meaningful content and design attention from either of those games, you'll have Starfield. Top it off with an insultingly poor UI that forces you to constantly fight against it to actually play the game.

I'm putting my interface rant at the top, because as PC users, there's a fairly good chance you'll be playing on keyboard and mouse, and I want to be sure that you get this warning first. Bethesda did NOT make this game for PCs, despite what they or anyone else says. Starfield was made for consoles, and it shows in every single aspect of the UI design. Starfield has the distinction of employing the single most unintuitive and tedious UI I have ever seen in an RPG, and I am well acquainted with interfaces that are, charitably put, rough. Menus are locked to 30 (30!) fps. The main menu is radial and annoying to utilize with a mouse and keyboard. Every menu, from the main menu, to inventory, to ship editing, has SO much wasted space that Bethesda inevitably uses for some silly cosmetic purpose like showing asset models, instead of displaying actual gameplay information. On top of that, information is organized in a nonsensical way, separating relevant bits of data onto different parts of the screen, or totally hiding information from the player. Keybinds between similar menus are different for seemingly no reason, and in the menus and game itself, pressing a key and holding it function as separate commands. These two innocuous "design" choices really mess with the player's ability to develop muscle memory for the menus and end up burning a lot of time on accomplishing routine UI tasks. The map system, where you will spend much of your time is a total mess. There is no minimap or local map to speak of beyond a dotted grid that shows no information besides the relative position of POIs and there is no map whatsoever for interior spaces or cities.

Starfield is poorly optimized (another signal that the PC release is an afterthought), and for the poor performance, looks barely as good or even worse than games five years or more older. Starfield's lighting and color saturation is a mess, so a lot of objects and structures look overly reflective or blurry. The antialiasing is primitive, so distant objects have choppy edges and combine to make a game that looks VERY unimpressive in 2023. On max settings, my machine barely breaks 90 fps, on fairly high end AMD hardware (7700X CPU/7900XT GPU/64gb RAM), which is who Bethesda partnered with to optimize their game. On Premium Edition release day, I crashed to desktop within the first 60 seconds of starting my game, and then once about every 10 minutes for several hours afterwards. To credit AMD/Bethesda, there was a GPU driver update specifically for Starfield that very day, and after installing it I haven't suffered a single crash. Still though, that's an awful first impression for a game with the budget and development time of Starfield. I have heard that the game is very unstable on Nvidia hardware, which I am willing to believe, so if that's what you have, be sure to look into whether the game will actually run for you. Loading screens are constant, as all building and ship interiors are instanced. If you aren't running this game off an NVME drive, expect to spend a lot of time staring at a loading screen.

The scope of this game is an illusion formed by copy and pasted assets and populated by terribly coded NPCs. Their behavior is rudimentary, even by the standards of Bethesda's older games. Space exploration in Starfield is a falsehood. Travel is accomplished either on foot, or through fast travel options from the map menu. Your ship is simply a place to offload your inventory and do some crafting. There is no atmospheric flight, so almost all of the time you interact with your ship it's on the ground. The gunplay is serviceable, and the audio design is pretty good, but only when the NPCs aren't bugged or acting braindead. After so many years and hundreds of millions of dollars, a scifi reskin of Fallout with laughably low-effort worldbuilding is way less than customers deserve.

Legally or not, some people played this game, while others had the opportunity to enjoy jokes and sarcasm about the problems of this game in YouTube videos. Brain side: I completely agree with all the negative reviews (yes, before writing this text, it was interesting for me to read why the game is criticized by the “red” ratings, and why the game is still praised by the “green” ratings)... The side of feelings: you know... I'm catastrophically tired and angry about what's happening with the gaming industry in recent years. I'm tired of making jokes like "to hell with it, we have an indie industry." I'm tired of the fact that many gamers forgive and even !praise! such products, motivating creators to make further pseudo-games like this one. If earlier there were a lot of big games from big companies that were interesting to play, then in recent years I’ve been increasingly thinking that I’m not interested in spending the full price tag on some kind of garbage in a beautiful wrapper. And thank you if this wrapper is really beautiful and is not stuffed with a million bugs.
I am tired to be angry to see "a big game industry" in such a mess in 2023 because of so-calling effective managers. Because it so happens that in the modern World big games are made not by those who like to create games, but by those who simply want to suck as much money out of you as possible. And the most disgusting thing is that they don’t give anything for it except false promises and no less false apologies. I'm so tired of all this that EVERY! similar pseudo-games in future will receive no more than 3 points from me (graphics, music, idea). I'm over it.

Fault is on players who being spit into face by Todd, wipe and praise spit taste and keep giving Bethesda their money.
So, comparing Starfield to F4 or F76 - and anyone who played those, you WILL have flashbacks and feeling of deja vu - with outdated animation, brain-dead dialogs, textures basically coping F4, just with removed Fallout spirit, and many more - at least in Fallout series was Fallout lore and Universe, maimed by Beth, but thank you God created by better people; in Starfield you got none. The planets lack vitality, and while I understand it's a video game and not reality, I wish they were more captivating. Unfortunately, every quest feels like a monotonous fetch quest that involves going through a series of loading screens—boarding my ship (loading screen), taking off (loading screen), selecting a planet (loading screen), landing (loading screen), disembarking (loading screen), and so on—just to retrieve an item and repeat the entire process to deliver it to someone else. It's incredibly frustrating.

Although the combat is decent, the AI is subpar, and challenging enemies often feel like bullet sponges. On top of that, managing the inventory is an exhausting task. There are no clear indications of what healing items do unless you scroll over them and read their descriptions, which is a hassle. Additionally, sifting through menus to determine if the 500th iteration of the same gun I've found is an improvement over my current one is a tedious process.

What surprises me the most is the good reception this game has received from critics, despite mixed reviews from users. These issues arent nitpicky, they are so obvious. From my perspective, it appears to be objectively average, at best. If I had to give it the highest possible rating, it would still be just average. The most disappointing aspect is that everyone claims the game improves after the first 12 hours, but even after investing 20 hours into it, nothing has changed. I've been patiently waiting for it to become more enjoyable, but it hasn't. The fact that it supposedly gets better only after hours of grinding to design ships and suits is disheartening, as it means I've already bored myself out of this game by that point.

When we usually hear the term "Getting Moar for Less", we usually imagine a product whose value outpaces its price. But when that product becomes a Bethesda game named Starfield, you can be guaranteed the consumer will be paying more and getting less compared to other AAA games of this genre.

Starfield is not a good game, not because it isn't an update or an improvement on Bethesda's production process. It would be a lie or a misrepresentation for me to say that Bethesda has not upgraded the visuals as well as the quality of the game. I haven't had any bugs, crashes, or anything to undermine Bethesda on the data integrity of Starfield. The visual aesthetics are sometimes breathtaking and sometimes sterile, but that is the stylization of the game not a shortcoming of the game's refinement.

No, where Starfield completely falls off the rails, is when the game is running and you the player actually pay attention to the presentation formulated in front of you. Starfield is a 2005 game created with all the technology and graphical fidelity of a contemporary title. This wouldn't be a problem if Bethesda Softworks created timeless classics worth revisiting, but they don't. Bethesda's stories, how they are told, and what is depicted are all middling, milquetoast and tame.

Let me give an example, let's judge how Bethesda goes about interaction between characters to progress the story and create immersion between player and their companions. Not to name names, but a better game company allows companions to banter between themselves allowing you; the voiceless protagonist to listen in on a conversation that defines key characteristics about your companions as well as keeps you immersed in your travels between objectives. Bethesda on the other hand has you pull anybody you want to know about aside and commence a flurry of inquiries you must choose from. Your responses feel less spontaneous or thought-provoking, and more robotic and interrogating. You are asking query after query as your companion cycles through each one like a bad chat GPT. If you don't interact with that companion you will never hear from them. This relationship is a one-way street, or more like a semantic cul de sac. You spit out a random question at any random time, it cycles around generic answers till you ask everything possible on the presented screen. Conversations with your crew are as organic as polyurethane.

With interactions so robotic they could make the Terminator blush, you would think the combat in the game would be the saving grace for Bethesda's would be cosmic opus. Well don't hold your breath, the combat in Starfield is mindnumbling bland. It is so bland that it should count as a blemish against Bethesda because they refuse to put real time and effort into making it better. Weight, sound, impact, Bethesda was really focused on making a space sim because none of those things seem to have any value in Starfield's combat. The banal spongy lifeless AI, paired with your dull uninspired guns, that look interesting but handle like dead wood, beckon you to turn the game off and do anything else to feel life. The lifelessness of Starfield's combat must be an homage to the dark void that is space because no professional Video game company should be proud of this presentation.

Last but certainly not least, we must talk about the scope of this world. This isn't a space game, this is a Bethesda game about Space. This game wasn't built around you exploring the unknown. This game wasn't about using the technology and advances of space-age mankind. This game is about taking the cues, beats, and gimmicks Bethesda has used before and recycling them again. Space is just a complex loading screen, your quest takes you to an assortment of vaults, and the cities are just populated settlements. Fallout 76 was their test realm, Starfield is the 1.0 release.

Usually, creating a subpar product whether objective or subjective in critique was something we as a gaming community ignored. But Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company saw fit to raise the price of Starfield to 70 dollars. Starfield for 70 dollars is a travesty. The sad fact is I think MS knows that Starfield is a poor representation of a next-generation product, and I think cynically this mediocre offering was purposely presented to bolster the player base of the game pass. Either way, Starfield can't be suffered as an actual Space exploration game.

In closing; Starfield is a claustrophobic, cramp, mundane experience, with feeble combat, wooden narrative, and anemic immersion. To play Starfield and to laud it with praise is to validate Bethesda for being a great game company because they say so, not because they earn it. If gamers start to put up with this quality of game design the floors the limit for the future.

Sometimes your follower will get stuck and when you go to talk to another npc where your follower has is supposed to be part of the dialogue, the screen will start teleporting back and forth because of the stuck follower. The base building and cargo shipment system seems completely redundant, which was one of the things i was most excited about for the game. Theres very little point in even having a base besides the upgrading benches you can find in the lodge anyway. Theres barely any customization, you have 4 pre set shapes of rooms you can have, instead of building your own shaped house, you only have the option to choose a square or a circle and connect to the same looking square and circle shaped rooms. The next issue is resource gathering, i went all out on resource gathering on the skill tree, which turned out to be completely pointless because even fully specced into it, going to the various cities and buying out the resources from vendors (which by the way costs close to nothing) turned out to be about 50 times faster than grinding it yourself. This also made the cargo transportation system you can have completely pointless too. The combat is equal to a 2005 FPS game and theres no mob variety at all. The main quest was miserable for 95% of it and the first half of it was basically doing the same quest 20 times over and over again, even 2 of the quests taking you to a location with identical building, identical mobs and an identical underground bunker location. Only during the last 3-4 hours of the main story did the quests get somewhat interesting. Those are just some of the issues, the game has a lot of problems, the potential is there after 4-5 patches or letting modders do their thing. All in all its just an okay game, nothing special and wouldnt recommend anyone buying it until it goes on sale. Expand

-One of the worst perk/leveling systems I've ever seen in a game
    -The UI is horrible
    -Space combat is barebones
-You might as well not even have a ship given that you're barely in it, due to fast travel being mandatory
-Outpost building seems like a step back from Fallout 4 settlements in most respects

I actually intended to maybe give this game a 5/10, but I honestly struggle to think of anything which this game does well, and I was bored out of my mind playing it. At least the spaceship design was cool, although it's rendered almost pointless in a game which barely lets you use your ship.

Even worse these tiny maps are just random generation environments with the same 3 or 4 dull activities randomly scattered across the map/planet. Scan, scan some more, scan some more and occasionally do dome shooting and lasering same thing and the enemies just run at you and stand in front of you. Or just randomly run from random points. At first I was enjoying the game learning the system , but after 10 hours I was just doing the same thing over and over on similar looking areas. This all might be OK if the story and characters carried you through, but its all modern cringe writing with this ugly unappealing characters we find in so many modern games. After not long I was just skipping dialogue in hopes I could enjoy the game systems..But its just shallow. Leveling is just picking perks, that's it! and then there are few generic crafting chores. Basic stuff where you can't build nothing until you pick the perk then you can use some of that useless junk that weighs you down to make more useless junk cause the game still has to be fair if you dont do crafting.
At first I liked the combat but after not long your just fighting the same red human dudes and handful of alien animals that a spread across all the planet/maps.
Off course then there the woke stuff. Yeh it's all there and it's and crap as it always is.Ugly unappealing chicks everywhere , female empowerment with all leaders being butch and manly woman.. Averting the male gaze. Even the one attractive girl that is your companion is made unappealing by sounding like an irritating posh 70 year old.

-The game looks okay, but runs really bad on my system and please don't tell me I need a better PC. I certainly don't. Also missing a lot of obvious features like an fov slider or DLSS. What the hell? I'm using an AMD GPU so I'm not even affected. That doesn't mean it isn't bad tho.
-The story and gameplay loop (like I've said I've been playing for 12 hours so far) is just not good and pretty boring. Now I've heard people are saying things like "it gets better after 25 hours" and I do believe these people, but I don't think thats a good argument for a better score.
We are not talking about "a few hours" here.
-I just don't like Bethesda's writing, but normally I do like the gameplay and open world. The thing I completely hate about their newer games is that their approach regarding the writing feels like that the script / dialogues has to be 80% ""funny"" and only 20% serious. And even for a game like Fallout thats just bad.

I may change the score when they at least fix the bugs and bad performance.

One thing I do really love is how you can create or modify ships, that is a lot of fun and really well implemented.

Diverting power from Grav to shield to weapon 1-2 etc. sounds great but it's not, it's not pleasant to have to faff about whilst trying to fly.
-Vast empty spaces of nothing. Most planets are just textures of nothingness.

In summary, unless you are a die-hard Bethesda fan with low expectations (this goes hand in hand) then I can't see how people are so hyped about this game.... There's a story (which is probably good) but it's locked behind tedious gameplay, UI and travel cutscenes in such a vast world that it's impossible to avoid all the aforementioned.
Looking beyond the visuals and soundtrack which are admittedly fantastic, and this just feels like a sci-fi fallout in an entire (vast, empty and boring) universe.
ALL the positive reviews are only focusing on visuals and story, voicelines, vastness etc. instead of looking at all the CORE parts of the game which frankly whilst typical of Bethesda, feel outdated and will do nothing to bring in new fans to the studio or game IMO.

As a fan of all genres of games and sci-fi (and not a die-hard fan of any studio) I can honestly say I am 100% disappointed in the game and find it tedious and impossible to get into. I've tried twice having uninstalled twice now and will not be attempting again.

If it wasn't installed via games pass I would be asking for a refund.

    - ... Long loading times (freedom / feeling of travel is lost)
    - Navigate a lot in menus
    - Facial expressions / gestures of the characters horrible
    - Overall, no good staging and camera work in conversations
    - Not a good story, typical Bethesda food
    - Spaceships land far away from their actual targets, why? As a result... a lot of walking!
    - No vehicles or animals to move on over 1000 planets (crazy enough)
    - An Outer Worlds (Obsidion - Fallout New Vegas) already offered more decision-making possibilities! Not to mention the titles of other manufacturers
    - Exploring the generated planets will be quite boring
    - The game doesn't manage to surprise me

    I can only emphasize positively:

+ Solid soundtrack but not quite as good as Skyrim
    + Good gunplay
    + Beautiful art design
    + Good speakers

Unfortunately, all elements in the game are only average. If you value story and dialogue, you should resort to the Mass Effect Series or Baldurs Gate 3. There is a better space experience in Everspace 2, Star Citizen or Elite Dangerous.
No man Sky also offers a lot from Starfield, was only there before and continues to work better.

Little has happened since Skyrim, but I spent hundreds of hours there and loved it. Somehow Bethesda seems to have stopped me. The development is progressing too slowly or my expectations were far too high. Spaceships, planets and SiFi.. a dream, unfortunately burst for me :/

This game is a complete disappointment. I can't believe this thing is released in 2023 and by such a giant company with the insane financial power and expertise of Microsoft. Yes, it would be ok if it was the first game by an indie developer but you just can't expect people to like this messs!

Interface: a lot of unnecessary clicks and complete disaster of usability for your inventory

Interface: a lot of unnecessary clicks and complete disaster of usability for your inventory management
Gameplay progress: It's insane how slow skills are being learnt and how miniscule the benefits are for some of the progression you invest your levels into. It will take you literally months until you get all the skills that might be useful. I am not talking here about locking of the content behind a skill wall!
Dialogue: You just have this feeling that you always succeed. At some point, there is no need to read whatever characters are saying, it's just going to be whatever way story writers decided. Yes, you can sometimes do things your way, but it might have no impact. If a character is critical – no way to kill him or her. No alternative exists.
Animation of characters: Are we in the early 2000s? Look at character faces and the way they speak, it's feels like moving plastic.

Pick any aspect of the game, and it just reads – OUTDATED.

The framerate dips extremely low for a game that actually requires a ssd, a 40 series card and equal cpu shouldn't struggle with this game this much and the biggest part of a space game (traveling the universe) is the worst part of the game. Disappointing as this was the game I was excited for the most.

played the game for almost 2 hours and I closed the game and deleted it. The optimization of the game is a disgrace. The spaceship has no meaning, you can go everywhere with fast travel. The graphics are bad. There is a stupid filter and it tires your eyes. In short, this game did not meet my expectations and disappointed me.

The Engine is outdated, not even support for 3840x1600. Even most Indi games support that today.
Most time loading new map when entering something, since the engine can still not handle such stuff. No realtime travel between planets, all time need to use Waypoints, same for landing/takeoff on Planets. Feels like a game made 1990 but not 2023 with all that limitations and restrictions.

Characters are looking also as if they would be made in 2000. Character-creation part is one of the worst i can remember in the last decates.
Dialogs are made like it exist just one script for camera and that one is used all time. No camera movements etc, feels very static.
Dialogs on the story telling part fells boring and flat.
Exploring Planets is on most time pointless, but that discussion about startet months ago that this could be as boring and pointless like in No Man´s Sky, there was the hope Bathesta would make it better since they have been warned and...they failed :P (why listen to costumers as long they give the money)
My score is also based on the price of the game. For a game in pricerange 70/100€ i can not give a better score with a outdated engine, loveles made characters, pointless number of Planets, bad inventory system, ugly character creator, flat dialogs etc. The game got the feel its made of Developers that got payed for being in office 8 hours/day, but not made by enthusiast that wanna make a great or at least good game. (Giving even the feeling like they are that kind of developers that dont even play games at all)

Funny also the reaction given by Todd Howard that people need a better hardware for running the game smooth. Got a 13900K + 4090, with that setting and the average till low made graphic that the game offers, it should run with +200fps. Proof of the outdated engine and loveles made development.

The space side is odd, most of the action is FPS based ground / outpost based, almost nothing in actual space. You don't really have free-form flight, there is no sense of travel, you just fast travel everywhere.

I love exploring, when playing games like Skyrim I rarely if ever use fast travel, I love just walking through the world exploring, feeling like I'm part of it. With Starfield you have to fast travel everywhere, exploring planets feels boring, you just pick a random spot to fast travel to and then walk around empty areas to the nearest procedurally generated waypoint to explore the same basic cut and pasted generated content. Nothing feels particularly epic or even interesting.

The RPG aspects seem pretty much boiled down to an on-rails story and a bland skill tree. There are no really choices or ramifications for anything you say or do. Bar the main story side missions have no real affect on anything, dialogue choices affect almost nothing and the NPCs are wooden and uninteresting.

Graphically the game looks very dated, the ships flying around in orbit look like they've just been pasted in and are being pulled around on string like cardboard cutouts, New Atlantis looks particularly bad. Neon looks better but not by much.

NPCs are just pathing around, they look like copy / paste clones, there are no schedules or life to them.

Loading screens abound, almost everything has a loading screen, entering a building..loading, taking off..loading, landing..loading, using an elevator..loading, you get the idea.

The UI is truly awful, each screen seems to have it's own shortcuts using the same keys for different actions, there is no consistency. On one screen it might be Q and T to scroll through tabs, on another it might be Z and C. One screen might using Tab to exit, another uses Esc.

The controls in the ship builder and output builder are especially bad, placing components on your ship should be quite easy, but trying to drag a component from one level of the ship to another horrible. The output builder is even worse, the overhead camera view has some of the weirdest controls I've come across with mouse-X rotating and mouse-Y zooming, mouse-wheel changing item, left and right buttons rotating the item. And rotate isn't snapped at all, it's almost impossible to align anything with each other or the outpost walls. Games like Satisfactory, Space Engineers and pretty much anything do a much better job.

The game might improve, I've only played for 20 hours, but I don't feel like sinking any more time into it. I've more than enough other games to play, RPGs with great RPG mechanics, space games with actual space flight and story driven games with far more compelling stories.

    TLDR;

Space game without real space travel
RPG without any ability to actually play a role and have any impact
Ship and outpost builder with awful UI
    Living world with lifeless NPCs
Next-gen with 5-10 with aged gfx

To sum it up, I gave up on the game after 10 to 15 hours, and basically regretted even spending that much time downloading the game. Before going deeper, I have a very good pc, with game installed on M2 SSD.

To start with the good stuff,
-There are so many planets you can explore, within the limits of course, and some of them look very interesting. It really gives you the vibes of being somewhere completely else to earth.
-There is a lot of stuff you can steal, interact with and so on, if feels like the whole "planet" is your playground.
-The character creation is a huge playground as well, so many options, perks, traits and so on. It really allows you to create a perfect character for toy.
-The story begins with a really cool premise, that makes u really interested, in whats to come. To be fair, it might be because of me liking sci-fi and space stuff.
-The spaceships make a "big" part of the game, so its really cool seeing an option to create your own one with the builder. Yes there are some limitations to it, but most of those make sense, like having a need for powerful enough reactor, or enough thrusters. On the other hand, the game limits you to only 3 different types of weapons.
-With weapons comes space combat, which iI really like. The use of different weapons against shields and ship hulls, as well as balancing generator power distribution.
-For a Bethesda game, it released in quite a polished state, with me encountering no bugs, and after some fixes, the game runs quite well and loadings are quick.

    Now for the bad stuff,
-I will start with the mentioned performance, where for some reason, Bethesda devs didnt implement dlss to a game with very high requirements. Yes you can get a mod that fixes this, but that shouldnt be needed. In no way you should be required to install a 3rd party mod, to make a 3A game playable.
-The loadings, yet short, are extremely annoying and for me break a lot of immersion in the game. There are 2 problems with the loadings.
--First one being, that most of the time loading is just a boring black screen, that just pushes you out of the enjoyment. It wouldnt be that big of a problem if the game didnt have
--So many loading screens. Yes they are short, but every time u do something, there is few of them, which bunches up. I dont remember last time, when i had to go through a loading screen to get into a house. Mainly with games like EldenRing basically being playable through whole map with almost none. The funniest thing is, that at some point you need to go through 4 loading screens just to get into some spacestation, first is loading while traveling near it, then loading for docking, loading for exiting your ship (if u dont exit directly out of ship, but instead just out of pilot seat, thats extra loading), and finally u load into the other ship from some kind of connecting place) this should be doable with just the travel loading, and docking, where new map for connected ships loads.
-The on foot combat just feels like 2 bullet sponges beating each other with a spoon. Basically, you dont take damage, but nor do you enemies. I ended up just running into their faces with starting "weapon" and killing them that way.
-All the NPCs apear emotionless, if feels like there is nothing behind them, yes they can have some interesting dialog, stuff to say, but when its coming from a plank of food, it all feels not important, boring. I also have seen some weird NPC faces and expresions in clips and photos, but i didnt encounter anything like that.
-To talk a bit about the story i mentioned, that grabs you right at the start, there is a problem it lets you go instantly. Everyone says, that it really gets good in a time, the problem is, that by that time you just get bored, and even the promise of interesting story becomes just a distant dream. I wanted to force myself into getting to the point where it gets good, only to give up.

-My final problem comes from the main idea of the game. This game should be a SPACE EXPLORATION game.
--The problem is, that SPACE feels just like a fast travel medium, that just slows down you loading into the main content which are the planets. For something that had the space advertised so much, it ends up being almost pointless, where most of the time u will just fast travel from planet to planet, without even seeing the space. Also the space feels very uninteractive, where the vast and endless space is just a place, where u can travel a bit, dogfight, and fast travel somewhere else. There is no YOU traveling, where u want to go, just fast travels.
--Same goes for EXPLORATION part, where you can only explore the premade parts of the planet, which most of them have same placements of everything. You are basically put into sandbox, thats a 1x1km cube you cant leave. Most of the planets have it this way. There is no freedom, there is no open space, there are just small sandboxes to teleport to.

Starfield - The talking and inventory management sim. 90% of your play time will be split doing these two things. The other 10% will be doing you know, the fun stuff. Good if you like games heavy on the dialogue and shuffling inventory items about every few minutes.. The very liberal fast travel and many, many loading screens take away any immersion.

At least, i WOULD have enjoyed it if it weren't for the absolute cascade of bugs. I've had about a dozen crash to dekstop's amongst other minor and major bugs. I meet the recommended system requirements for the game as well, installed the latest drivers, and my framerate bounces continiously between 20-40fps. But what really pushed me over the edge is that starting today - the game refuses to save my game. Pressing 'save' in the menu leads me to an error message saying "could not create save file" essentially meaning that ANY game progress i make from here on out is not going to matter. Troubleshooting leads me to that the culprit for many seems to be Microsoft OneDrive, but i don't have it enabled. Ergo, i can't even fix this myself.

I don't think i've ever had such a poor experience with a new release, and especially from a dev as renowed as Bethesda. Hence this poor review score. Stop releasing games that are a broken, buggy mess. Period.

There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
