It's just a D3 remake for 70$ Some parts are better, more are worse but I'm not supporting something that should be 20$ for the quality of game we get.

10m boss fights ending in lag death...down to 3. Stability would help a lot.

A great game completely ruined by server issues. I haven't been able to log in since launch. Constant 200+ min queue times have kept me from playing a single-player game. This is the exact case and point of why you don't pull this garbage. I want my money back.

    Everything is good, except:

    - no solo play, can't disable other players
    - monster level scaling

Which ruins the game, Diablo series is becoming a MMO with no solo option, very sad :(

    2. Early release for suckers who give Activision blizzard extra money. Giving players with fomo an extra four days of early grinding is a terrible business practice.
    3. The monetization. The game is changing upwards of 25 dollars for a armor skin in a full priced game lmao. Seriously, it was less then that to buy the necromancer class in Diablo 3, or for a full fleshed out expansion in Diablo 2. You can't unlock the skins in the game either.
Game could of been good but the greed keeps it from a high review. All of the critics that reviewed this game should have to go back and update their reviews

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, let me justify my score with my experience so far.
1- Blizzard is being blizzard and move into nerfizzard. The information about most of the broken builds was released with the release of NDA of "close beta" and they did perform a nerf after idk 36 hours? From my point of view this was just another jump start to their "content creators" which has access to closed beta (full game) they could do those "balancing" beforehand even before game launches.
2- They often referring this is a "arpg" game and not a "mmorpg" game but playing this game as a single player is only punishing. If you play with a pair you can reset dungeons instantly, once we had a reset dungeon button but its long gone now. I know they just stated that this function was harming the hardcore experience but they could just add a delay to it no? Also while playing multi player you can split and even you cant benefit 5% xp bonus you can still get xp from mobs that dying further away from you. Oh also they're "balancing" elite mobs in dungeons after 9 days of release. But I'm pretty sure that they're doing this it's because most of the experienced people already leveled up to 100 more than 1 class also most of the information is spread around the internet. So change my mind.
3- They're still under influence of gaining huge sum of money from diablo immortal, they didnt gave us a proper game to play yet they're working on further expansions already, which are going to cost us money. So, I think that their greed is still affecting their decisions.

The game has been plagued by lag, stuttering, and rubber-banding since it launched. This is even in the most inconsequential places, even during the end credit crawl.

The gameplay is plodding and the world-wide level scaling means there is no levelling up to get through a rough part and then just exploding through screenfuls of enemies. Just more slow plodding with your undergeared everything.

Combine this with a static overworld, few post-credit activities, no casual party finder, and it is just "meh". There is nothing exciting here and definitely not worth the launch price tag. So save yourself $70 and catch this turkey on sale in a few months.

Let's be honest, art style is amazing!
    But everything else is horrible.

    - Phone UI bleeds my eyes. Floating hud with numbers at the bottom. Cartoonish skill icons. MMO inventory. They all kill the dark vibe of the game. How can you make such a good looking game and then ruin it with such an awful UI? Not to mention the dysfunctional skill page without a search bar...

    - Level scaling. This is why this game feels so boring to play. The more levels I get, the more punished I feel. What's the point of a level system if I'll never feel superior? Cap it already. And put different caps for different map regions so that players can feel the progress they have.

    - Itemization. This is where D4 completely fails. There is no build diversity. Meta is totally controlled by Blizzard and the legendary aspects they add. Some skills have x10 synergy legendries, while others have only a couple. Where is the freedom in this when one skill does x1000 damage with ten synergies and the other can only have two synergies?

    - Resource management. Core skills are boring, but you have to use an even more boring skill to be able to use them. Seriously, who came up with this system?

And why do we have to explain the same things over and over again since D3?

    Side Missions 2/10
They are dull open world filler and not captivating. If you're concerned about that sort of thing, finishing some of the missions out of order doesn't really make sense because they presume you've completed the campaign. The reward is insignificant (crafting supplies, experience points, gold) or occasionally a pointless rare item that you can't even equip on your class.

    Events 2/10
The open world, dungeons, and cellars all contain events, which are brief scripted interactions. They give out Obals, the standard gambling currency. They quickly grow stale because there is a very limited selection of events copy/pasted across a very large world.

    Cellars 0/10
Cellars are useless open world filler. For the price of 2 loading screens you get to experience a small 1 room dungeon that contains an "Event" that you've already done many times over.

    Dungeons 5/10
Horribly formulaic. Once you have done 1 dungeon you have done all 100+ copy/paste dungeons.
Do objective X then, if there is a boss, kill it.
Layouts are all the same, mostly medium length corridors running NE or SE.

    Nightmare Dungeons 1/10
The games normal dungeons can be run as a "nightmare" version which will have 1 good and 2 bad affixes. The dungeon rewards XP for glyphs on your paragon board.
Compared to maps in games (PoE, Torchlight2, Last Epoch) this is just lazy and boring.
Once you max your glyphs there isn't even a reason to run them.

    Tree of Whispers 2/10
This is like a continuous daily quest mechanic.
You complete the same open world "activities" (Dungeons, Cellars, Events) you have been doing but you gain a currency that can be exchanged for a loot bag.

    Strong Holds (7/10)
    A single-use open world event.
These events are done solo or in a group.
The event are fairly original to the location and have unique story/lore content.
Completing this event replaces the event with a NPC town/camp often with a waypoint.

    Legion Events 5/10
These are open world events that appear every so many hours.
It is basically a mass-murder-fest with 3 loot chest at the end.
There are no mechanics, just a zerg of people face-rolling mobs.

    World Bosses 8/10
These are open world events that appear every so many hours.
There appear to be 3 world bosses, they have mechanics, drop loot like any boss and a weekly cache of loot as well.
The fights are pretty fun but as players learn the mechanics and grow in power the bosses can be killed VERY quickly.
The bosses do not seem to scale at all to the power level of the players.
Seems they are just loot pinatas.

    Helltide 2/10
An entire open world zone can become a helltide for 1 hour which allows the monsters to drop a helltide currency used to open helltide chests which contain a mandatory crafting currency.
When compared to GuildWars2 zone wide events these are very lame.

    Renown 4/10
Each of the games 5 regions has a sequence of 5 account wide rewards unlocked by progressing the amount of renown you have in that region
The rewards are mandatory for character progression, so completing everything feels mandatory
This the only reason complete all the filler content in the game.

Music 2/10 Nothing memorable like D1 or D2 Very soft and forgettable, like ambient background music Mounts 1/10 Got 5 mounts, all are the same retextured horse *Driving* the horse feels awful with mouse/keyboard The horse often gets caught on things and just stops Itemization 5/10 Boring/Underpowered Conditional affixes are stupid Tedious item comparison Gems 3/10 Boring/Underpowered Enchanting 3/10 Same boring replace 1 affixes system form D3 but more expensive Combat 7/10 Combat is fairly slow Character is always resource starved and feels underpowered as the world scales up each time you level Graphics 8/10 The game world has a lot of detail and looks good when zoomed out. Zoom in and it looks like a mobile game Campaign 5/10 There are no twists-and-turns in the main story, it is very stale and bland No interesting characters Cut Scenes 10/10 The pre-rendered cut scenes were all very well done Conclusion For existing players of Diablo games, the main problem with Diablo 4 is that it is boring, it feels like a repackaged Diablo 3 with a different story and tweaked/repackaged end game systems. Once you finish the campaign and get to world tier 4 there isn't any reason to continue playing.

There is no build diversity in the end game. "But the meta always exists" isn't an argument. There's having meta builds, and then there's having most viable. Right now, as it stands, because of different mutations that elite spawns can have, ranged characters are rendered useless in high level dungeons. I play a necro with a full minion build and I know that even if I pump as much points into minion life as I can, my build will be useless around high level end game because I'm only on t3 and am having trouble keeping them alive. People like Asmon use the most meta builds for their character, they still suck at the game, then say "you're just playing the game wrong" if you complain that the build you're using isn't working when their's is numerically broken.

I actually liked D3, but right now, the current gameplay loop for me to level up is to just grind the same dungeon over and over again. The people that do this are the same people that say D3 was bad because all you did was run rifts. Dungeons are just not fun. There is SO MUCH BACK TRACKING in dungeons, just running through hallways and caves that you already cleared out, it's just not fun.

Mounts, they make no sense. Nevermind the movement is so janky and laggy that I've stopped using it all together, but having a mount in an open world game like this says one of two things; either they know the map is too big and you need a mount to get around or they want to sell you mount cosmetics in the store.

There needs to be more build variaty. And it's not about numbers. The aspects for blood magic on necro are just bad. The reason every end game build centers around bone spear for necro? It's because it has the best legendary aspects for it. It has nothing to do with numbers, the aspects for them are just useless.

If you want to play through the story and play through some of the side missions, which are honestly really good, then it's worth the base game price tag. If you're looking for a forever game, go try PoE. It's **** free.

Seeing as this is a 70$-100$ AAA game release with scummy cash grabs, an in-game cash shop and a lot of expectations and promises it can absolutely not live up to, 3/10 is a generous rating.

The story and world building of D4 are bland, uninspired and simply not crafted with care or talent.

The voice talent is clearly trying but can't manage to alleviate the bland and unlikeable characters with their performances alone.

Still, for an ARPG the story is passable -or would be, if D4 had anything else going for it.

The skill tree is pitiful and does not allow for any personal input or creativity beyond choosing one of the few builds the developers have 'pre created' for the players.

The end-game paragon board and glyph system looks more open at first glance, but if you look closer you will notice that there is still very little variation when it comes to specific builds and what variation there is is hardly meaningful.

The early to mid levels feel tedious because the trite and uninspired builder-spender game play loop is made even worse by deliberately bad builders that do no damage on their own and feel bad to use and absurdly overpriced spenders that rely on legendary aspects to do any meaningful damage.

If your build relies on a legendary aspect that can not be obtained as a dungeon aspect (and thus added to any item via a town npc after clearing said dungeon) you are at the mercy of RNG and might not get the one aspect that enables your build for many, many levels and hours.

Once you have finally assembled the basic core of your build, things don't get much better.

Now it's time to grind out (nightmare) dungeons. The team behind dungeons seems to actively hate ARPGs. At least that's the only explanation I can come up with as for why killing monsters seems to be an absolute afterthought for dungeons. Monster packs are sparse and far between and a large portion of your time in a dungeon will be spend carrying various stones, runes and keys through mostly empty dungeons to unlock doors.

Even when you're met with a door unlock requirement of 'kill all enemies' you will still spend a considerable amount of time running through empty corridors, looking for the last monster hidden away in a remote corner of the dungeon.

Design like this would be excusable if this was the very first ARPG every created but it is not excusable in 2023 with plenty of games already offering great solutions and better ways to go about this.

    Overall:
If you're just looking to slaughter some monster hordes after work, D3 will serve you better.

If you want deep and meaningful systems and a chance to get creative with characters and builds, go for Path of Exile, it doesn't even cost you a thing.

Expecting everyone to abstain from paying for an advantage or a cool item is just as silly as expecting the public to police bad people for free, which is why we have governments funded by the public so we can have services such as police, roadworkmen, etc. These are jobs that people wouldn't do for free and no one would pay for, just like no one will stop buying these scams unless the government intervenes.

On the positive side, the game presents a simple yet engaging story that managed to hold my attention until the very end. The narrative successfully captivated me and kept me invested in the game's world.

However, where Diablo 4 falters is in its endgame content. The promised meat of the experience turned out to be rather disappointing, with a lackluster and monotonous gameplay loop. The activities and challenges offered in the endgame failed to engage me and left me longing for more exciting and dynamic content to continue my adventure.

One aspect that particularly disappointed me was the build system. I had hoped for a more intricate and diverse approach, where character progression would not solely rely on obtaining specific legendary items. Unfortunately, Diablo 4 followed the footsteps of its predecessor, Diablo 3, by emphasizing the same gearing system. The best abilities are still determined by the legendaries tied to them, which increase damage output by a higher percentage compared to other abilities. This lack of flexibility and creativity in the build system resulted in a sense of repetition and limited options for character customization.

Moreover, Diablo 4 suffers from excessive stat bloat, with a plethora of stats that serve little purpose. This abundance of irrelevant stats diminished the excitement of gearing up and fine-tuning my character. It would greatly benefit the game to streamline and balance the stat system, providing a more focused and meaningful approach to character progression.

In conclusion, while Diablo 4 manages to deliver an engaging story, it falls short in key areas that significantly impact the overall experience. The underwhelming endgame content, lack of build system innovation, and excessive stat bloat hinder the game's potential for long-term enjoyment. Diablo 4 has its moments of fun, but it ultimately leaves me craving for more depth and variety.increased the damage of X ability by X%, but like with Diablo 3 we end up with the same gearing system, where the best abilities are the best because all of the legendaries tied to that ability increases the % damage by more % than other abilities.

Its also extremely stat bloated with 90% of the stats being completely useless which further lowers the fun of gearing your character.

i give it a low 4 out of 10 since the majority of the game is spent in endgame.

This game looks like Indy , not like a AAA premium “100$” project. Not the game date we aspected for 11 years. Every location looks like Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V Every dungeon looks the same with one differens - recolour. 1 door and 1/2/3/4 keys.

The world itself is so linear and lackluster that I find myself just staring at the minimap trying to make sure I don't pick the wrong turn that might lead me around some stupid mountain pass that I have to push space bar to do a neato jump across! Groundbreaking stuff!

After you beat the game, you can go down more linear paths and press 1, 2, 3 or maybe 2, 3, 1 and kill some scary demons!

    Worst $70 you'll ever spend.

If you're part of the team that spent years working on this title, then I feel absolutely terrible for you, which is similar to how it feels to play the game. It is a hot, hot mess.
    - bugs, bugs and more bugs
    - Atrocious user interface
    - Graphics either stutter constantly or look gross when turned down to manage framerate
    - monetization is audacious and conceited for an already 70 USD purchase [see in game $ shop]
    - numerous, fundamental game design and gameplay mechanics decisions that either do not work [do not accomplish the thing they were meant to], do not make sense or just feel bad to experience. Too many to list with character limit
    - embarrassing character design further hobbled by extremely deficient customization options. There are 4 faces vs. 34 different jewelry combinations? No body sliders either. As if.
    - once again the design is so bad that there a multiple instances where we’re not sure if it’s a bug or not
    – balance? As in - of all the different possible playstyles of the available classes each ‘build’ should ideally fall within a standard deviation of the mean. It’s ok to have a clear and obvious best, as long as it’s not exponentially more powerful than any other choice, and that’s just regarding by-the-numbers analysis. Players ALSO want each popular build to FEEEEEEL GOOD and be FUN. If it’s making big damage numbers and never dying, but it’s boring, frustrating, too simple or too complicated then what’s the point?
    – I remember before open beta some content creators and influencers having played the game saying that combat was good. That it ‘felt’ good….i don’t trust those people anymore. They may have been referring instead to combat responsiveness as far as actually pressing the buttons, but i’m playing a necromancer and a lot of the time when try to use a corpse, nothing happens until a full second later i find out why because that corpse ‘despawned’ but was still visible…just pretending i guess. And why do corpses have to despawn as others are generated? If we’re THAT limited by what hardware or the engine is capable of [and i'm not convinced we are] but if it is that bad, then just generate fewer corpses in the first place and then balance using corpses to compensate. But I digress, got really into the weeds there. Combat feel really bad to me
-- story? Not sure, only made it through the first act so far. This is your excuse to disregard me because all the things I'm talking about…what, get better after act 2? Act 3? When I reach level 70 or 90? Sorry, story: uuuh, not terrible but certainly not good. It’s just a little bad. While there’s objective ways to analyze good or bad writing, I’m willing to relegate my verdict to a subjective opinion. ACT I SPOILERS - meeting Lorath [and his VOICE actor! Yeah!] is nice, but then he takes off…oh well. Then we get stuck with Leah…i mean honestly i forgot her name, but she’s just a more diverse Leah. She does the Leah type things. Here, let me open this door for you with the power of smol, or here let me open this OTHER door for you with the power of smert! this guy that will later straight up boast to a literal angel that you’re gonna track down and kill Lilith. That’s the kind of person that needs help opening things. Yeah sure, its magic whatever, it’s also trite, it’s not interesting. Umm, i don’t think story has ever really been diablo’s core skill - to me the games with less were more. Story in this series should be seen and not heard. Imagine diablo as a game saying: i’m here to shred demons and introduce sappy sympathetic archetypes to deliver exposition and inject motivation, and i’m all out of sappy sympathetic archetypes! That being said i’m a HUGE fan of side quests and there’s even a couple side quest sequels that add a little arch to their story, and those were neat i liked those. Okay. why do i care more about the lady with the axe or the hard-boiled exorcist than i do helping Leah…i mean whoever deal with her mommy issues? My guess is less was more.
    - voice acting and writing: **** Yeah! Aaaaand then the rest of the cast - this too, is an unpopular opinion of mine. The actors individually have good or decent quality, but the directing of them is almost always over the top cringe. Like, okay just…i get it, just bring it down to like a 5 or a 6 from where you are, okay? It’s also hard, admittedly, to separate the VA from the writing. You can only do so much with what you’re given. There were some lines that worked, but overall just felt like too schlocky or melodramatic. Get out of the way. I’m already battling the forces of evil, just let that experience speak for itself

I have expected nothing from this game as I do not really trust modern Blizzard and this game got me kind of catfished. It is good enough to make me care, but only to disappoint me later.

The packaging is great, skills fills fluid, game is gorgeous and its fun to kill mobs and progress early on. It works great for first 10 hours, but later all the glaring design problems start to drop on you, of which there are:
    1) Loot is boring.
Imagine playing a diablo game where you don't care about loot. It's so boring, that you don't want to look at it, because mods are just not interesting, there are a lot of trash and uninteresting mods, 50 damage mods which are moderately useless because they are additive with each other, resistance mods which are completely useless, because they tried to innovate and ruined a good working 'capped resistance' system into something that makes resistance a bad mod. Not a single unique can drop for first 50 levels, there are no 'thought-inspiring' items that make me go "Huh, I wonder if I can make a build around it". More than that, the loot is "tailored" for the class you play, so you never loot something that makes you "I want to roll a barb with this" or "I want to give it to my necro friend". Even if you could, the trading is SEVERELY limited and might as well not exist. Gems are a complete waste of space, there are no loot-filters, the stash management is HORRIBLE, only 4 tabs make management even of basic stuff like aspects/gems/sigils/potions cumbersome. The are no sets, runewords, chase items. After playing ~100 hours I have near incredible gear, which mathematically can only be improved by like 20-30% with PERFECTLY rolled stuff.
This is a game about loot and the loot is total and utter ****
    2) Class design.
I hate "core" skill mechanic. The game is designed around classes being playable with MAX ~5-7 skills, of which realistically 2-3 are even good. The passives and support skills also autopick, after you decide on the main skill. This results in zero build diversity, there is literally THE BUILD for every class and THE ALTERNATIVE BUILD. And that's that. There are 10 builds in the whole **** game. It's impossible to experiment, because there is nothing to experiment with. Aspects + passive tree give severely limited choice and pigeon-hole you into the "correct" choice.
This is a game about rolling another character and giving it a try, but it's not interesting, because no creativity is allowed.
    3) Price.
So, this is a 70$ game with a VERY PREDATORY 30$ surcharge for "early start" (which I fell for btw, but it's ok, I knew what I was doing). On top of that they also have a shop and battle passes for which they want to take money. This is not ok.

These 3 are a dealbreaker for me. The rest are a bit less of an issue, but still.

    4) Level scaling feels bad. Level up after 50 is a DROP in power most of the time. Because you barely grow in power with just 1 paragon point, but mobs grow in level and power.
Imagine dropping in power when you level up.
    5) Open-world is gimmicky, useless and feels forced.
I don't want to participate, but kind of have to because of helltide resources needed to upgrade. And I had to complete useless boring quests and go on lilith altar run just because of renown. I am here to slay big demons and get loot. Running around is **** boring. Running to dungeons to enter them feels tedious and pointless.
Imagine having to run to entrance for a minute, to then finish the dungeon in two minutes and have to run for minute to next entrance.

    - Skilltree has no logic whatsoever, and getting a sensible build is a boring hit-and-miss chore.
    - Every fight feels the same, no matter the monster level.
    - Completely no sense of progression.

Some of my negative points are:
1: LVL scaling: The problem with LVL scaling zones and mobs are that the game feels that you are not improving, it actually gets harder if you LVL up due to all mobs grow in LVL but the gear you have are now worse for your LVL than it was before you got that LVL up.
2: Skill tree: I'm glad they have a skill tree and did not go for d3's stupid kid style, the problem I have with it is that it's so shallow. D2 have one of the best with skills impact other later skills you get, here it's 1-3 attacks/buffs with some passive buffs, but after you get LVL 50 and think wow a new tree, that maybe buff some unique play styles but no just 5 main stats and 4 choices that give you hp or DMG.
3: Bosses and mobs: they are the same, even main quest bosses can be the same as in the dungeons. The mob problem is boring where the game feels small, and it gets boring fast.
4: DMG: I understand that they didn't want to be like d3 where you one shot 10 mobs with a spell and just cleave everything on the run, but now it's just pain to run in to a pack of mobs, and it takes 20-30 sec to kill even the easy non elite packs due to one of the mobs being a bear or brute. Then you have elite packs where it's just a roll of luck if they going to take 20 sec or 3 min to kill. And this sets in fast and due to scaling zones it never gets better (until max LVL). If you play d2 you kinda oneshot small mobs in normal all the way and in Nightmare or even HELL none elite mobs get cleaved down fast, and in d2 a new rune word or a good upg will make it feel easy for the next few lvls.
5: One shot deaths: Even in low lvls i felt that some times i would just get one shot from full hp from a none elite group of mobs, run back and not understand why or how and on some bosses there could be a one shot luck combo, and sure making a mistake on a boss can be a death but when its a 100% death if you are unlucky that the boss spawn the wrong creep and then cast one of its spells is just bad.

Now some good: It looks OK, its better then D3, there are alot to do (it's gets boring fast but its there), it can be hard, real hard and thats fun.

All in all, the first days of playing i felt that this game could be a nice new hack n' slash game, but after 30-40 lvls i felt it was more a grind and that i forced my self to play to justify the 70$ i spent on it.

I can see that some could find this game good, but for me It's just scratch the itch for D2.

There exists a deliberate system in any game that intentionally creates discomfort (the Diablo series' limited inventory is an example). However, Diablo 4 has an excessive number of visibly inconvenient systems, which leads to dissatisfaction.

Firstly, Diablo 4 fails to sufficiently develop the game's story and instead relies on implicit hints, providing story content and DLCs only after the initial release. This gives the impression of an incomplete game experience, especially considering its price tag of $70.

Furthermore, in an attempt to extend playtime, Diablo 4 introduces mounts starting from Act 4, which feels like a deliberate content extension. Additionally, the reset of the reputation system, similar to collection content, each season is difficult to comprehend. The subquest rewards in Diablo 4 are underwhelming, and the reputation system is no different from collecting items. Moreover, having to experience the story repetitively each season feels unnecessary and hard to understand.

The dungeon system in Diablo 4 introduces conditions that must be met to access boss rooms, which not only lacks enjoyment but also adds unnecessary stress. This conditional dungeon approach is atypical for the fast-paced hack-and-slash genre, deviating from the essence of Diablo and impacting the gameplay negatively.

The opening system of Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4 is also inconveniently implemented, although it resembles systems seen in other games. In Diablo 4, players must physically travel to the dungeons, and the conditional dungeon system exacerbates the inconvenience. These aspects make Diablo 4 appear regressive rather than progressive within the game series.

While there is a possibility of improvement as seasons progress, considering the current state, it is difficult to give a favorable score.

    2. Another thing that the saga implemented was to be able to carry potions and organize them as we want. Again, D4 implements this in a vague and meaningless way.
    3. I understand the need to implement a battle pass... but this time, it is not only ugly, but also confusing and difficult to understand.
    4. If something made popular was the sets... that in D3 were poorly implemented and in D4 ended up disappearing.
    5. The so precious runewords, something that all the users loved from D2... again. Taken out of D3 and D4.
    6. I ask, is it really necessary to mess up the whole screen with numbers representing the damage applied when the life bar of the monsters does not have a number that represents the total life of the monster? they ruin the art of the game.
    7. That all the objects occupy the same space, another mistake.

And I could go on detailing many more aspects that make this game not up to what it was expected to be. Regardless of the story that you may like or not.

As the game progressed I did enjoy the new spells visually, but it was still incomparable to Elden Ring. Sort of like elementary vs university level. Performance wise, I have a TOP END pc, CPU and graphics card and network and found there were several time where the game sputtered the character causing it to jerk forward.

Over all it’s not bad, but I really expected much, much more from Blizzard at this point in terms of visuals.

Blizzard has gone and turned Diablo into a Live-Service game now. They slapped a bunch of F2P monetization into a $70+ game. Along with a frankly pointless "MMO" shared overworld to make sure people who spend money are around people who don't. Even conveniently planned the "early access" for deluxe edition buyers to begin on a friday and run all weekend. Extra layer of FOMO with a $20 pricetag.

Wouldn't be surprised if this went F2P in a year or two. But would the game be better (right now) if it was Free? Nah. Will it be better in 2 years if it goes free? Maybe, but unlikely. Paid DLC is probably also a thing so the longer you wait, the better the deal you get and more "finished" the game is.

Diablo 4 has been fanfared in the first few days to a week with

    KFC promotions and
songs created for the story by Halsey,
    crap read by MeganFox,
usless stuff that you can buy in real life and in-game

AS IF THE GAME WAS SO GOOD already and it cannot sort to say speak for itself...

Besides all the client crashes and server problems I subscribe to various comments here that point out severe lack of core game imagination from Blizzard topped with many missing - (funny) aspects of an ARPG. The game is boring and linear. I have never played D3 (further then the free act 1 version) and D4 doesn't bring anything adventurous to the genera, not to mention to the legacy.

They (Blizzard) made it so it looks like an open world mmo, with "things" to do and "various" classes to play and "world bosses" that all look like a mobile game if it weren't for the art and design team which are truly and only the one aspect this game has landed where it was suppose to.

I do still play a little but since i got the 90eur deluxe (early access + some cosmetics) version i've almost got very bored of the gameplay, game items, game dungeons that are repetitive and fad, and in over a week.

They could have made the campaign last for the entirety of the lvl cap 1-100 and keep the access and restriction to higher lvl zones so that the players would feel attracted to progress, and on the sideline do activities and special dungeons as an escape from the story line. They could have made all skills be viable and combinations of skills discoverable in terms of build play so that when they say a variety of classes and playstyle, it wouldn't mean a variety of 5 classes with 2 viable builds each.

Instead they made a shame of their name and the most expected game of the last 5 years at least, and a fool of the players who actually bought it.

There are so many aspects this game in it's core is not what it was expected to be but in short especially it's not fun! I'm giving it a 4/10 because the art and graphics design team deserve praise, other than that, rip!

    No economy

A fat, hollow, taxidermied corpse of the Diablo franchise rushed out to the masses to desperately milk as much cash from its customers as possible while delivering a truly embarrassing product. Soulless, empty, broken, greedy. I had such high hopes.

The music slaps though. And the art is great. So much potential. The game needed like 2 more years of development. They had so many years to take the greatest parts of PoE, Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and Diablo 2-3, while learning from each game's mistakes to make something truly groundbreaking. Unfortunately, those days of the company seem to really be over.

ActiBlizz, ahead of it's time, created a new monetization method, the "Pay 2 Pay", where you pay a full premium price to get a ripped off game and pay even more for the battle passes to get the full product.

This is garbage in it's most pure form. And giving it a "positive" feedback will just make this a new standard. Remember those idiots playing and paying for Diablo Immortal? So,

The increased price doesn't help either, as there are better games on the market which are either free and have a cash shop or just a one time purchase. The greed is unreal here, requiring both.

It could be fun as a one time single player play-through, but again through activision amazing management of this title, you can't. You can't play offline, and with the lack of resources, not online either. Even after the D3 fiasco they've learned nothing, not with server management, or game design.

Best to wait for the game to go on sale, hopefully it will be polished enough to hold your attention then.

    Character:
    - 82 Barb with 60-70h playtime
    - All Lilith Altars
    - All Dungeons completed
    - Maxed out Renown in all zones

    Positive:
    - Amazing cinematics
    - Very good graphics
    - Great looking gear on character
    - No problems at launch

    Neutral:
    - Combat feels OK in higher levels
    - Big open world but always the same Monsters
    - Damage numbers in the millions again
    - Aspect System is meh
    - Scaling is OK but needs some improvements
    - Party play is fun but messy and cluttered
    - Runs smooth but sometimes annoying rubberbanding here and there
    - Horse is great but clunky
    - Cool looking World Bosses with some OK mechanics but way too easy
    - Story is OK but nothing special. Some illogical things but it was still fun to play the story. I listened to all the dialogues and did many optional quests.

    Negative:
    - Very boring and repetitive endgame. You don't have real goals like big bosses, character improvements or chase Items (there are some uniques but it doesn't feel like I want them).
    - Bad Itemisation, item progression doesn't feel good and it's the same as in D3: many legendary effects are mandatory for the builds.
    - Bad UI. It is extremely noticeable that it is a console port.
    - Absolutely no QoL for PC (e.g. stash search, /commands, clunky Horse, combat log, death log, and many many more issues)
    - No build diversity
    - No chance to find a group ingame. You have to use the D4 Discord.
    - No trading. Also at discord and very impractical.
    - A lot of backtracking in dungeons.
    - No Crafting. Like in D3 you just can reroll one stat.

It's like that with almost all ARPGs: at a certain point you ask yourself why you're actually doing what you're doing. Do I still have a real goal? In Diablo 4, unfortunately, this comes after a very short time. You could say it's just like Diablo 3 and Blizzard didn't learn anything from the fact that players quit the seasons after a few days.

I really hope that Blizzard will listen to all the criticism. There is still a lot to optimize. Not only small things. So far, I am pretty disappointed by what has been developed in about 7(?) years.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Played D3 for 2000 hours and played most of the ARPG in the market right now. This is the game for neither casual story experiencing (because the story line is plain and simple), nor those who like play end game

    Story: *spoiler*
    - No Diablo in Diablo game
    - Simple kids-level bad guy story that you chase a bad guy and kill a bad guy that's it
    - Prime evil is not evil and being raised as a pet by dark wanderer
    - High heaven and wise Tyrael totally absent maybe the story is too cliche so they have little interest to intervene

    Mechanism:
    - Nothing new. A giant freak of other ARPG game mechanism mix, especially Lost Ark.
    - Imprint system is a piece of ****
    - Managing and searching your imprint or legendary gears are non-existing. No way you can tell what you have unless you have very good memory.
    - Meaningless side quests that give you 1 veiled crystal in the end as reward
    - Meaningless long walk in dungeon, long walk in world map
    - Same dungeons, which don't usually fit to the story line or anything. They just pop up there and inside it's just a randomized collections of several maps.

    Skills:
    - All class has one 1 viable skill or build to play. Not other builds are not "good", they are utterly ****
    - Imagine you're in a season and you need to play countless dungeons with your only build that will never change - I have already lost interest in starting playing at all.
    - Some core skills are designed clearly without any creativity for example Rogue has two almost identical core skill "barrage" and "rapid fire"
    - No variations in skill tree. You got all things like +4% crit, -4% dmg on close enemies.
    - Affixes are pretty much auto-cast certain skills and very slightly change how skill works very boring

    Gameplay:
    - Worst horse riding experience. Randomly stop and stuck in terrain. Clunky.
    - Revive points are anywhere but where it should be - in front of the boss room.
    - Leveling system makes sure you don't feel that you're leveling. When you have that only 1 via build and most of the affixes, you're pretty much one shot everybody and 10s boss raid until level 80.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I LOVE Diablo. I can still remember playing D2 all through college with friends, ALL NIGHT even on exam nights. Then I played D3 for years. I LOVE ARPG's - am also a huge fan of POE. I bought the 100 dollar edition and begin playing during early access. The leveling experience is pretty terrible. It is slow and clunky and there is zero power fantasy. Later on (I am now 75) it is a big quicker and there is some power fantasy but no where near ARPG levels of power fantasy. Dungeons take forever. Helltide events are unrewarding and cumbersome. Navigating with the horse is horrendous. Constantly running. Major nerfs to popular builds and the paragon tree 2 days after early release. There is no mass variety of builds. Everyone is playing the same 1-3 builds. I wanted this to be a game I could sink my teeth into and play for the next 10 years. AS it stands, I think I will likely hang it up in a few days and go back to POE and wait for POE 2. It is worth noting that level scaling DOES NOT BELONG in an ARPG.

Update: Now level 90. I can play for HOURS and not find a single upgrade or new item of any kind. ARPG's are about loot and it seems Blizzard forgot this. The loot is boring and uninspired. Very de-motivational.

Monster density is bizarre. In some dungeons, I can go through 4-6 super large rooms and encounter 1-2 mobs, period. What? This is Diablo. Where the heck are the monsters/demons?

It's a very terrible game. It's not fun at all and it's full of elements that annoy users. There is no such thing as diversity in builds. If you don't do certain builds, you will have a very terrible experience. It takes elements from Elden Ring, WoW, PoE and Lost Ark, but the mixture is terrible. Such a cheap way to squeeze as much as possible out of your customers.

There was so much bad to take away from the character design, itemization, and just in general from Diablo 3, annnnd they didn't learn a thing it seems. The game looks great first of all. A huge step from D3. But the same exact problems are here with characters and items. Unironically has less player customization than D3. Just because they shifted the skills from little pages to a "tree", people think it is great. The "tree" has 2 choices per skill? There's no depth at all, no options to explore and tinker with. The paragon boards all have "best in slot" deals going on where you know exactly what you will use before you even start playing if you plan it out. Nothing to discover or try. No player has "their build". Blizzard has put builds into the game for the player to play. You have the X skill equipped? well put on the X Aspect. Nice build! Just about the entirety of the character's power comes from the player's gear, which is an issue.

The biggest issue for me, is that the game has 0 innovation. This is one of the biggest "game developers", that had over 10 years to work on this game, and they played it completely safe with the thought of consoles, sales, and trying to have the largest player base first. Instead of starting with gameplay and mechanics first, it seems like they started with some business plan, and built a "game" around it to hit goals.

As someone who loves ARPG's I am very disappointed. I was not expecting much from Blizzard these days, especially after all the previews we have gotten the past few years. But was hoping to get surprised and there actually be a step forward for ARPG's, but what we got was a huge step backwards for the entire gaming industry. Setting a precedence of charging extra for a sooner release date is disgusting, and borderline predatory.

The only thing worth mentioning is that the art-team did a good job.

Extremely pricey, in-game shop and a battle pass that gives you benefit over others plus 2 planned DLC:s coming. Stay away from this money grabbing attempt.

Game is boring as hell. Blizzard should have just remade Diablo 2 with some better graphics, new maps, new items, and bosses and it would have been worlds better than this crap. Why the hell would you do this blizzard? The only redeemable qualities this game has is that is doesn't crash, isn't poorly optimized and there aren't any bugs other than the odd invisible wall my character got stuck on. The game is boring to look at, boring to play and dreary to listen to, nothing that I could remotely describe as fun. Nothing about this game is fun. Overrated, over-hyped, overpriced trash.

The gear itemization and skill tree systems are weak and do not confer enough power to the player.

The world scaling is off, with enemies seeming to scale at the same rate as the player, making it difficult to feel a sense of progress.

It's generally very boring right now, I wish i could refund it but i cannot.

I'm an older gamer, almost 35, and I feel absolutely terrible for the younger people who consider this to be a "great game" or "a modern day Diablo II".

The people from the younger generations are largely fooled and hoodwinked not only by the sheer number of degenerate "video game review" companies who generate "positive noise" for the dying gaming industry, (the most prominent being IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, etc...), but also various streamers, influencers and YouTube/Twitch personalities who not only hide behind the fact that they are independent of the parasitical game review apparatus but also want AAA titles like Diablo IV to succeed and become very popular so they can use the game to generate content (and as a result, ad revenue).

These same streamers, YouTubers and influencers will do anything to garner a large audience, and thus, will actively promote a bad game, such as Diablo IV, simply because their careers rely on games like this succeeding.

In short, DO NOT TRUST THE STREAMERS AND YOUTUBE PERSONALITIES! The number of resources one can trust for good, honest game reviews is getting smaller and smaller...

It's also important to consider the fact that this game is developed and released by one of the most, if not the most, deceptive, morally bankrupt and greedy companies in the entire gaming industry: Activision Blizzard, which should put this game under a very high degree of skepticism and scrutiny. This is a company that has "pissed off and ripped off" its consumer base so many times, that it amazes me that anyone with a fully functioning brain would trust this company.

What is Blizzard's plan for this game? Well here it is:

    1. Price gouge the depressed, sad basement dwellers who have no life and no sense of impulse control by charging them a fee on top of the base price of the game so they can simply play the game a few days early before the global launch.

    2. Allow the fake, "positive reviews" from the degenerate game review industry to saturate the market, which will help sell the game.

    3. Perform a "bait and switch". Wait for the revenue of the game to level off for a bit, than slowly begin to integrate more and more microtransactions for selling in game items. The game will begin to look a lot like Diablo Immortal in which only a few very wealthy (and pathetic, mind you), individuals can afford to play the game. These people are referred to as "whales".

    4. Begin to rip off the whales by integrating casino/gambling mechanics into the game, in hopes of getting these players addicted to gambling within Diablo IV.

    5. Let the game die.

In terms of the actual game, well, the previous reviews are spot on:

    - The game is not so much a game at all, as it is a service designed to get people to spend their hard earned money through soon to be implemented microtransactions, akin to a casino and gambling.

    - The game is essentially a mobile game ported over to consoles, than to PC.

    - The gameplay is nothing more than a repetitive "cookie clicker" where you repeat the same actions over and over and over ad nauseam to the point where it becomes boring and repetitive.

    - Blizzard scrapped the character of Diablo for a female demon character. The character of Diablo is not in the game, so why bother to call it Diablo?

    - The open world is vast and expansive, but reuses so many elements that it's ultimately boring, mundane and stale.

    - The level scaling makes progressing through the game far too difficult. Exploring the world for new items becomes a chore.

    - Nearly ALL the world bosses are the same and are nothing more than glorified "damage sponges".

    - The skill tree looks impressive but it hardly promotes a unique character build.

    - The game is ONLINE ONLY! Seriously? Why!? Online only got so much negative feedback when it was introduced years ago that you'd think the morons at Blizzard would have dropped this horrible practice already.

On a more positive note, they did a wonderful job with the artwork, voice acting and sound design. The world of Diablo IV is beautiful and sounds great. I hate to leave such a terrible review and not mention the hard working people who did such a fantastic job in designing the artwork and sound/music of the game.

These two aspects don't save the game at all, as it's just so fundamentally flawed and is really designed to be a way to fleece people for their money.

RIP Blizzard, I had fun playing your games while they were good, it's been a good ride old friend but it's time for us to part. Good bye!

I wish there was an offline option as my experience would've been so much better.

Apart from the poor performance and the game always being online i really love the story and the dark atmosphere thats been created. The game play is also much better then any of the other diablo games. I can see blizzard monetizing the crap out of this game. We all know its going to happen at some point. Who knows if its going to be a disgusting as diablo immortal but i'm feeling there going to try something. I paid $140 for the early access and the game is contantly freezing and crashing at times this is the main reason im voting this so low. Hopefully in a month or two this is fixed but i feel that also in a month or two heavy monetization bs will be added.

Diablo 4 Review: A Disappointing Departure from the Series' Legacy

    Introduction:
Diablo 4, the highly anticipated addition to the iconic action RPG franchise, unfortunately fails to capture the magic of its predecessors. While it boasts impressive graphics and cinematics, the game falls short in several key areas. Drawing upon my expertise of being a Diablo enthusiast, I will delve into the details of Diablo 4's shortcomings and highlight how it diverges from the series' rich legacy.

    Graphics and Visual Design:
Visually, Diablo 4 is appealing, going back to the the dark and gritty aesthetic of its predecessors, but it carries a noticeable World of Warcraft influence. Some spell animations lack the impact seen in Diablo 2 Resurrected, with cartoony spells reminiscent of Diablo 3. Moreover, the generic item graphics detract from the unique item identification experience found in previous titles, and the lack of variety in monster designs is disappointing.

    Gameplay Mechanics:
Diablo 4's gameplay mechanics present significant issues that hinder its potential. Characters are restricted to specific equipment choices, limiting build diversity and preventing unique playstyles like a melee sorceress wielding a sword and shield. This restriction feels outdated, considering the flexibility offered by games released over two decades ago. Furthermore, the absence of a basic attack and the reliance on skills tied to weapon damage undermine the RPG systems and result in poorly designed mathematical frameworks. This departure from Diablo 2's distinct magic and physical attack mechanics diminishes the game's depth and engagement.

    Skill Variety and Gameplay Diversity:
The game's limitation of six active skills at a time, compared to Diablo 2's allowance of up to 16 active skills, curtails the potential for diverse and dynamic gameplay. Diablo 4's gameplay revolves around waiting for cooldowns and utilizing a generator attack during downtime, lacking the constant spellcasting and action-packed gameplay of its predecessor.

    Replay Value and World Design:
Diablo 4's replay value is limited, with an endgame that lacks depth and character progression that quickly stagnates. The absence of procedural generation, a hallmark of the series, and the reliance on recycled assets contribute to a forgettable game world. The static open world with scattered MMO events fails to evoke the immersive and dynamic experience players expect from the franchise.

    Itemization and Power Scaling:
Diablo 4's itemization is disappointing, with convoluted stats that hold little meaning beyond superficial fluff. The game's focus on items dictating builds rather than enhancing chosen builds detracts from the depth and complexity found in ARPGs. Additionally, the flawed math system tied excessively to weapon damage, similar to Diablo 3, creates scaling issues and fails to demonstrate improvements from past iterations.

    Conclusion:
Diablo 4, despite its flashy graphics, ultimately falls short of its predecessors' legacy. It fails to deliver the depth, complexity, and engaging mechanics that Diablo 2 excelled at. The restrictive gameplay choices, lackluster itemization, and absence of procedural generation contribute to a hollow experience. While the game may still appeal to those new to the series or seeking an action-focused experience, fans of Diablo 2 and its rich sandbox mechanics will likely find Diablo 4 disappointing. As an avid Diablo expert, I rate Diablo 4 as a mere shadow of its former glory.

Other than the first act the story really falls of in every aspect.
Gameplay is repetitive and the combat is boring. There's really no builds to speak of for any class other than those shoehorned by blizzard.
Difficulty is laughably easy, it only gets relatively hard once you jump up a world tier and then get trivial again a few hours later. I'm too lazy to deep-dive into the specifics,

Early acess 02/06/23 : minor bugs, servers were working pretty well. I progress through the campaign with my friends and it went pretty well. But once we achieved endgame features, there's a lot of bugs.
Nightmare dungeons : bugged. You can't go in with friends because you will be desynchronised 1 dungeon out of 2.
Helltide : unplayable with lags. you'll die everytime you take a lag, and you'll lose your components.

Release date 06/06/23 : lags everytime. Permanent lags, so totally unplayable endgame features

    08/06/23 22h30 GMT+1 : Crash server. Can't play. Only 2 days since release.

Enough with server problems. There's also class balance problems. Barbarian is Godlike, rogue is too squishy (gets one shotted by almost everything), necromancer has literraly 0 mobility, druid is unkillable, and sorcerer is the only balanced class.

Let's talk about campaign : Act 1, 2, 3 ,4 and 5 are Star Wars Disney tier. Act 6 is a real masterpiece.
Campaign boss fights are for retarded ppl. they have 0 mechanics, they just have a ton of hp.
Only Lilith have a real boss fight. And Elias after the campaign will have a real boss fight too.

The Artistic Direction is perfect. that's why i give them 1 point.
Sound Design is good, but Lost Ark is better at it.

There's a lack of features in the UI. We can't see other player's profile. there's no statistics, can't watch playtime, there's no ladder.
There's no search bar for items in the stash. Gems take too much space

And there's a ton of other bugs, like sometimes you can't use any ability or dash. Sometimes the horse's pathfinding will totally bug. Cinematics will sometimes bug when you play with friends, only 1 in the group will the dialogues / cinematics.

There's no diversity in the bestiary and the dungeon bosses or in the decorations. All monsters are recycled with different color, and they are spread all over the entire map. Dungeons are procedural but you will see always the same monsters in them.
Dungeon Bosses are catastrophic. Distant / Mage bosses are retarded, they do no damage so you can just burst them with any build.
Melee Bosses are a nightmare, they run faster than you, have an attack speed higher than the light speed. So you almost can't kite them and if you don't play barbarian, druid or sorcerer frost you'll just instant die.

To sum up, this game is garbage and doesn't deserve your money, let Blizzard sink.

Diablo 4 is something that was truly anticipated for years. And therefore it hits harder that it is just a mixed bag of Diablo 3 (before it got polished, nowadays it is a solid ARPG in many regards) and Diablo Immortal. This game is no 10/10 and it is not black white to also give it a 0. It has good graphics (likewise to DI for terrain, but more polished to PC performance) and campaign/story - that is the good part. Now the bad: Itemization simple for monkey brain. Complexity and true skilltree choices that matter to make something special outside the box of what the developers intented to make as a build is missing completely. In the current state it does not even have sets, runewords or anything to do when you reached 100. The journey to 100 was ok, but the progression felt like you are losing and there is no anticipation whatsoever to get anything particularly worthy as item or reward when you continue the grind. It is also too easy, not only can anybody easily oversee the best choice to make in skills and points, but also there is no challenge whatsoever. Mobs need too long to die, while making not enough damage. I played to 100 HC in 70 hours and experienced everything once and killed it. I didnt have one challenge, where I died. The fixed hotkeys for the 6 skills, while having to pick, as intended for the developed build, a primary skill and set skillpoints in it, a secondary and so on, makes it just worse. People are given too much hand and developers thought for them instead of giving them itemization and complexity so the players can create something new, that was not intended before. Lastly I can say that the shop is just Diablo Immortal 2.0 . But this is not f2p. You pay 70-100 bucks and afterwards you pay 20 for battlepass monthly (when it ll release, ....) + many mtx , up to more than 100 bucks for the platinum package with almost 800% extra value. It is a joke and I rate it 4.6/10.

PS: I have to add, that I checked the 10/10 reviews, which were there first and it is very obvious that most of them are paid or bots. Like amazon recommendations or anything is faked nowadays. You can often see that the blockbusters of all genres, which were released, all got 10/10 from these persons. Or they are just new accounts

EDIT: NO HUD OVERLAY :D - yes in an ARPG Diablo , better skip this one

    EDIT2: lowered score from 5/10 to 2/10

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
