I grew up with diablo 3 and was excited to finally play the next game in the line. It felt pretty good to play through the story as a sorcerer up to level 50. Then the game basically stops and you start to notice it is basically a glorified soulless mobile game, only made so blizzard can get more money out of your 70 dollar purchase. Items are generic and boring, drops are terrible for the most part, level scaling punishes you for leveling, dungeons are generic, endgame content ist repetitive and boring, level progression is incredibly slow after level 60 there are maybe 10 different enemy types in the whole giant world. The world itself feels empty despite of the other players running around. I went back to grim dawn after this to confirm my sentiment and this old game with terrible graphics was a better arpg, than diablo 4 will ever be. It's honestly sad what blizzard has become.
Or in other words: **** your graphics, **** your cinematic, **** your greed, just give us a fun game like poe or grim dawn or diablo 2.

    1. Unimmersive
Diablo IV's UI clutter is the antithesis of immersion. 1. Unimmersive
Diablo IV's UI clutter is the antithesis of immersion. The minimap cannot be hidden, the quest log cannot be hidden, on-screen key bindings cannot be hidden, and objective markers cannot be disabled. Additionally, small windows are consistently popping up due to quests & challenges being completed or nearby events occurring. This gives the game a feeling of a cross between a free MMORPG and an arcade game, which is terrible for immersion How Diablo IV, the latest entry in the series, is the least immersive game in the series, is baffling.

    2. Lazily Designed
Quest design is lazy, due to its reliance on objective markers. NPCs will give the player a task and not explain where the task should be completed, yet somehow the player character knows precisely where to go, due to objective markers. Diablo IV provides the same experience as any other mainstream game: Chase objective markers around the world until the credits roll.

    3. Socially-restricted
Diablo has always been a social/multiplayer-focused series, yet each new game drastically reduces the multiplayer experience. Unique items cannot be traded, legendary items cannot be traded, enchanted items cannot be traded, upgraded equipment cannot be traded, crafting materials cannot be traded, aspects cannot be traded, caches cannot be traded, red dust cannot be traded, obols cannot be traded, invokers cannot be traded, malignant hearts cannot be traded, etc. Trading has been so overly-restricted it may as well not be in the game at all. Playing the economy is one of my favorite aspects of Diablo games; unfortunately, Blizzard has ruined trading, one of the only reasons to interact with other players.

    3. Lazy Endgame:
Nightmare dungeons are supposed to provide variety for endgame, but the dungeon aspects are just reskinned copies of one another:
    a. Enemies explode upon death = Ground affect you avoid or die
    b. Orb chases the player then lands on the ground dealing AoE pulse damage = Ground effect you avoid or die
    c. Stone structure follows the player dealing AoE pulse damage = Ground effect you avoid or die
    d. Floating thing follows player, occasionally spawning a bubble you must be inside or you die after a few seconds = Ground effect you must be in or you die

This is obnoxiously lazy and repetitive.

    Recap:
To summarize, Diablo IV is a non-immersive, socially-restricted, lazily designed game. This is all a shame, as the graphics and audio are fantastic.

guess why its called diablo 4? right, because u rarely fight more than 4 mobs at once.
Isnt it nice, you can spend all your resources on 4 mobs with 2 clicks and then have to gain resources by using ur filler ability for 1 minute until you can click 2 times on ur main ability again. what a nice game. NOT
now to the horse.. who the F developed this trash thing? u can ride for 10 seconds before u bump into a bush, or u have to dismount because there is a god damn wood barrier infront of you which your horse cannot jump over.
then there is the so called "endgame" beginning at WT3 with NM dungeons, which are basically useless to farm until you are WT4 because every single piece of gear with a higher item lvl is better than what you are currently wearing.. so u better grind some useless dungeons to get to lvl 70 fast, so u can actually play the "endgame".
oh wait, the best thing is they FORCE you to play helltides because otherwise u cant even minmax your gear or even reroll stats on it. i love it.
in 2023 u cant even search ur stash for item names, or apply any filter at all, i have to scroll through a huge amount of useless legendary items because they get put into ur stash after a dungeon when u dont pick them up.
no gem stash? ur inventory is filled with this trash. enjoy vendoring after every dungeon.

i wont even start talking about the cash shop in which u can spend 20€ for an ugly looking item transmog.

if i could get my money back by now, i would do it blindly.

It looks and plays like that mobile cash grab. Sure, for now it's not as bad, but wait for the season 1 to start. They will unleash their usual micro-transaction hell and this game will be basically all about paid skins. Because let's be honest - campaign in this one is a joke and you can't really play it in a loop like before. Majority of the game are lazy fetch quests. Really, in 2023, in a game developed for like a decade by a multimillion corporation? There are indie games that are much better than this one, developed by few dudes in a garage... But OK, let's say it's simply a hack'n'slash game. All you do is slay monsters and loot. OK, but where are those monsters and all that loot? Maps are basically barren copy paste fields with a very limited variety of enemies scattered thin. Most things you get are basically useless junk. Even those legendary items are semi-useful at best in most cases. Also your skill tree is extremely limited and only handful of them are useful. Why did they even added those skills if they don't work? Why bother? Just give me fireball that works and stop pretending. But with monster scaling it would be probably useless anyway. I love that when you level you actually hindering yourself, because monsters are levelling too and become bullet sponges with zillion HP. It's really fun to fight one goat man for like 2 minutes. But man, there are so many bad choices in this game, that it's hard to write a review and put it all in it. So forget gameplay. From the technical standpoint I'm also not amazed. Sure, it looks better than Diablo 2 or 3, but it doesn't look like a 2023 game. I play in 4K on ultra (with that UHD patch) and everything is blurry, low detail, especially ground textures remind me of Doom 3... what the heck man? Also light is badly made. There's clearly no ray tracing and balance in lighting. You have those blinding lanterns and 2m from them it's pure darkness. They also try to scatter, but they really know nothing about coding, so it only adds more blur and make it foggy. I have a good gaming rig - 5800X, 32RAM 4000MHz and RTX3090. And it's barely giving me stable 60-70fps... Really? In a game looking like it was made 15 years ago? And the camera - oh boy, I love those off screen attacks and no awareness of the surroundings, because I'm forced to play with a FOV set for 70" TVs. Haha, and that console HUD, with totally unintuitive and illegible quest tracking, no journal, never-ending tabs and so on. But the real cherry on top is the requirement to be always online. It's not a MMO. I want to play it solo and offline, like a real Diablo game, and not be bothered during campaign by hundreds of other players with insulting or stupid nicks. I don't want your 3 repetitive events and all that useless pseudo MMO BS.

As for my rating for the game. It this was an indie game, I would give it strong 5/10. Nice effort, maybe after some patching and a lot of development it could be good. But Diablo IV was made by one of the largest developers on this planet! They had basically unlimited budget and resources... and a lot of time. Nearly a decade. And they made this? 0/10. All those 10/10 reviews from mainstream media are a lie to trick you into buying this mediocre, at best, game.

They are actively looking at ways to slow down progression to force players to spend more time on the game. Massive dungeons filled with emptiness, enter and walk through several empty rooms before you start seeing monsters. Dungeon layout forces you to run to far corners and back. It's practically a MMO Running Simulator. See that shiny shrine, or chest? Most of them are cursed and spawn 1 minute of mobs before you can use them.. Buffs are weaker than your skills and you can't cancel them. Run out of potions and you find a potion well? Surprise! Deal with 1 minute waves of monsters to top off your potions! Died in a dungeon? There is a 3 seconds cool down for the respawn button to be active. and the respawn point is more than a 30 seconds walk back.. Mechanics such as shielded bosses and perma-stun elites are extremely dumb and a further waste of time. Loot is extremely punishing and unrewarding. Most chests are a waste of time to open. It's becoming too much of a drag to play.

Diablo 4 offers no innovations at all, nor does it impress with creativity. There is a complete lack of attention to detail and that is a real shame.
In the game itself, the player level almost doesn't matter. Everything on the map scales with the player level. So the most important thing is simply the equipment. The skills and the level itself can be more or less neglected.
As already mentioned above, this game costs at least 70€... Measured against this price, it is total rubbish.

Diablo 4 gives me the impression that it was developed for the small-minded gamer who has no ambitions and doesn't want to think. The main thing is to spend money on overpriced skins.

The story is overrated in my opinion and that alone does not justify this price. I can't recommend this game to anyone.

I am disapointed. I've played D1, D2, D3. I was expecting much more from the developers taking into account their experience with the previous franchises and over 10 years of waiting.
I have pre-ordered the game. Paid the bloody 100Euro. I play a Sorc, now at lvl 91.
What I like: + Skill Tree - the idea is neat, but I would expect more build flexibility in the future patches + Paragon

    What I like:
+ Skill Tree - the idea is neat, but I would expect more build flexibility in the future patches
+ Paragon system - tbh - this is the only reason I'm still trying to reach lvl 100. It is interesting, it gives real boost to the combat efficiency

    What I dislike:
    - Gear - at the beginning it was something new & interesting. Some serious hours later, it is all the same over and over again. I mean, Set Items in D3 - really cool & game changing feature, adding to the build flexibility & diversity. Runewords in D2 - excellent endgame (not only) solution, again adding to flexibility & diversity. None of that is here. Moreover, Unique items. Harlequin's Crest (+ 5 more super-unique items) as a great example. Well, it turns out, after the annoucement of Blizz, the current drop rate is equal to the probability of being struck by a lightning while travelling to work. I completely understand chase items like in D2 - Jah, Ber runes, Stone of Jordan as a few examples. They are very rare but it is possible for the players to find them. Currently, in D4, I am not even thinking about finding those super-unique items as I refuse to play for the next 10 years 12h+ daily.
    - Level 100 and then what? Now, this is more or less connected with the above mentioned point. I see no reason to keep playing after reaching lvl 100. The equipment improvements are small. The only real improvement for me now is the paragon development which stops @ 100 lvl.
    - no endgame - or a very poor version of it.

ARPG is the loot, at least for me. As you can see, the loot is not the main factor for me to play the game - which is insane in that particular case of an ARPG.

I can understand, that initially the game was rated much better than it is now. The Diablo series (for me) was all about the endgame, maximizing the character, wasting the enemies quickly by improving gear. It is not happening here. So, when you begin, it is interesting. The further you go, the worse it gets.
So, if you want to play the game through the campaign and a bit afterwards - it should be fun - for me it was. But if you expect more from an ARPG - there is not much left.

    Additional comments:
    * I've seen opinions on the "great graphics" - tbh I don't get it. I wouldn't call it great, rather mediocre. If you're talking about good graphics in a game released in 2023 - check out Hogwart's Legacy. Now that is great.
    * Story - I was not referring to it, as I assumed it is going to be crappy (well, it is an ARPG). I was not wrong, I just skipped the dialogues

I've bought the game without any research or doubt that it will be good. Man I'm so disappointed.
I'm also one of the crowd who played since D1 all the way here. There are a lot to be said about it being a 2023 cashgrab game but my biggest problem is that this game is boring!

F*ing boring, It's such a disappointment to associate this word with a Diablo game for me!!! I was honestly even doubting myself. I though the problem must be with me. Maybe I couldn't find the right build for my sorc (lvl 49 now) but no I tried everything I could, tried every other class too. After level 20 the game starts to feel like a drag.

No sense of excitement, no sense of progress, scaling mobs actually makes me feel weaker as I progress through the game and that in itself makes me furious! WTF? How comes I'm playing this game, grinding, trying to be clever with my build just to be PUNISHED for it?

I literally fell asleep playing and I'm saying it with feeling real sadness. How comes? Never happened with any other Diablo game to me and rarely happened with anything else! It had to happen for me to realize there's something seriously wrong with the game.

Fighting mobs doesn't feel good. I don't feel powerful, it's a war of attrition most times. I don't like it at all that I'm held back by resource generation without a way to instantly generate more. I want to feel I can pump out the DPS from my skills as much as possible and not to play a minigame of doing some damage then doing the dance to regen mana from burning enemies just to be able to continue using skills that feel like they have some impact.

I went back to D2 Classic and Resurrected to confirm my experience and man, it feels so much nicer to spam your skills in D2! It feels so much nicer to become significantly more powerful with leveling up. It feels so much better to have monsters not popping into existence with an opacity transition. It feels so much nicer to go into dungeons in D2. I can't really put my finger on it. But they feel like a significant obstacle with an atmosphere that puts me on the edge. In D4 I got no feeling of urgency at all in the dungeons. Not at all.

Dungeons feel like a chore. I feel inclined to not go into them. I don't want to feel like this but I simply don't enjoy them and whenever I think it would be nice to finally get some aspects I just look at the dungeon icon and feel like no I just can't push myself to complete that drag. How comes??? I want to feel excited to challenge a dungeon!

I hate the arrow indicators on the items. They stop being a true indicator somewhere after lvl 15 or 25. They make me feel bad for not using the latest drop that has worse "effects" on it than my old items with lower base stats but effects that make my skills stronger.

And I really miss the feeling of getting unique items or runes that will allow new ways to play my character or make certain paths viable much sooner.

I also miss the feeling of control. You know in D2 where to farm for runes and socketed items of suitable ilvl. I have no idea in D4 so far if I have any option to specifically look for things I want to achieve. (maybe max level 49 is too early to know)

All in all when I try to pick up the game, the bland world design that looks somewhat different across some regions but barely feels any different, the bland monsters that all feel the same even though they are not the same and I don't know what else, but the whole game makes me unmotivated to explore the rest of the content.

Events feel repetitive, just a task to get the purple currency which I found to be the most effective way to get new legendary-s that might actually be worth switching for.

I found myself not enjoying the experience which I think is up to game design flaws. Blizzard people, fix this game for the above average AAA price I just paid or extend the window to refund my purchase please.

This time, unfortunately, I trusted the (certainly paid by Blizzard) "professional critics" and did a preorder. Assuming that the game, after all, could not be somehow nightmarishly bad, since the creators of Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 worked on it for 10 years.

Such thinking turned out to be a big mistake, with one positive aspect. No more preorders, ever, for any game, even if the "pros" give it 100/100. As for Diablo 4 itself, I don't think I'll say anything revealing here. Shallow story, absolutely horrendous level scaling. This means that after each entry to a higher level, items previously acquired become almost useless. Not to mention that for a level 40 character, the loot is level 30 or lower and so on.

There are also 5 or 6 types of different dungeons in the game, the going through of which can be compared to scanning accounting documents by hand all day. In other words, the game is boring. But not simply boring, but monstrously boring. I played it for about 35 hours, then I was not able to persuade myself to run it again. And yesterday I just uninstalled it to make room on the disk for something to entertain me.

Oh, I would have forgotten! This game, for which Blizzard wants $70, also contains all the hated elements of free-to-play games. That is, the need to stay online, microtransactions (very expensive) and Battlepass. All in all, it's been a long time since I played such a terrible H&S. Worse were probably only Wolcen and Pagan - Absent Gods, one and the other I uninstalled after 5 hours. However, I think that if I had paid $70 for any of these games, I probably would have forced myself to play for 35 hours, like these D4. Any gamer who values his money, time and nerves should stay away from D4.

It is just too boring to play. It doesn't matter what my level is, enemies just level up with me. Making everything feel meaningless.
The world is dull, the Russian accent is killing me. Boss fights is just running in circles. I'd rather play Diablo 1 again, meet up with Deckard Cain, 'stay a while and listen' and then go on a real adventure.

First issue we come across, is the story. Which, in fairness, is actually pretty good at the start. However, the final acts of the game feel a bit rushed in terms of the story beats. The quests themselves feel dragged out, which is fine, I could deal with that is the payout is worth it. But as it is we end up going from struggling to find the main villain to killing her way too quickly, at least if you sit down and do the story in 1 or 2 sessions.

Next issue, continuing in line with the theme of story. The characters. Not player ones, but the villains and "heroes" of the story. Who are with the exception of 2 or 3 of them, are pulled right out of the generic character handbook. Calling them 2 dimensional would be generous. The second main villains only character traits are that he is a coward and doesn't want to die. There is literally nothing else to him. I can't even remember his name to put here he is that boring, I mean the pale guy who freed Lilith.

Now, moving on to gameplay issues. Oh boy are there a lot of them. Now, unlike most here, I will not complain about the level scaling. The level scaling is okay imo. Not prefect, but it's okay. Especially when there is far worse to worry about.
The classes. Where too many abilities are either useless or completely pointless. I'll give you an example of this, playing a blood based Necromancer I naturally looked at the blood ultimate, Blood Wave, an aoe ability with a near minute long cooldown, meant to feel OP just for that one ability, but... It's not actually any stronger than my main spammable resource using ability called Blood Surge, also an aoe that actually hits more enemies than Blood Wave due to a large circle around me than a straight line in front of me like Blood Wave.

Moving on, we next find issues in the classes special abilities. Now, I can't speak for most of them, but I have tried both Necro and Sorceress to quite a high level and... There are no true options as such. The line "As wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle" would be fitting. You are forced into 1 or 2 options because everything else is just useless.

Aspects, so, on the surface I see nothing wrong with aspects. However... Certain playstyles get ignored on ones you can collect from dungeons, forcing you to use playstyles that you don't like or wait until you get the one or two aspects by RNG to play the style you want until that gear is just that outlvl'd that you have to switch for survival again.

The repetitiveness. So, nearly everything is literally just doing one of three variations for every activity. Dungeon? One layout per dungeon and most dungeons using the same layout as 5 others, sometimes mirrored to try and trick you into thinking it's different. All of these dungeons following one of a few patterns of "Collect x item and place it here" or "Kill x mobs for animus and place it here" Random zone events? 90% of the time you'll be defending some random npc from waves of mobs which go in this pattern every single time normal mobs>normal mobs>normal mobs with an elite>normal mobs>normal mobs>event boss. Even if you don't have to defend an npc, that pattern is the same. I'd go through more, but you're probably seeing much the same pattern here as I did.

Levelling. It's slow. Made to feel slower by the amount of times you'll be doing repeated content to the point of tedium. And this has been admitted to be intentional. The developers have called reaching the level cap "Aspirational" and said it's not something that they expect or even want people actively going out of their way to do.

The UI: It's just bad. There is a lack of customisation, a lack of info in some places and just feels waaay too big for anything less than a huuuge tv. It's awful. Example of this is the skill tree, where you can see 1/5-1/6th of it on average. Despite not having enough abilities in that small an area to justify the amount of space it uses.

And now, finally, we get to the first issue I encountered and it's am issue shared by a good chunk of others. The zoom level and fov (google "Diablo 4 too zoomed in, you'll see what I mean about others)
They designed the game around ultra widescreen without any true zoom options. Meaning if you play on a standard monitor or TV you look really far zoomed in and can't see as much of the screen as you should be able to. Leaving you feel super far zoomed in and feeling like you're constantly being loomed over by every single piece of scenery while not being able to see the full scenery. Or in most cases any scenery beyond what it right on top of you. It is terrible.

If you're wanting a main game? Go play one of the older Diablo games, they're better.
If you're planning to play once then quit? This game is probably fine for you

You just kill random mobs anywhere you like and hope to win in lottery, cuz affix pool of items is bloated by useless stuff so getting 3 or 4 good one is just very rare. And then you get hit by fullrandom ilvl.

My number one beef with this game is the open world, always online, live service nature of the buiid. You CANNOT play this game solo, and you cannot have a "Private game". While dungeons are instanced, the "over world" is not.

Also gone are the procedurally generated areas of the past. Once you've explored the areas, they are static. Gone too are cleared areas. Mobs respawn now like a MMORPG, usually after about five minutes.

The level progression system is overly complicated and makes little sense. One no longer levels up stats and instead are reliant on whatever hard-coded increases the developers have chosen for your class. Many of the benefits of leveling up are opaque, and new systems are confusing: What the hell is a Lucky Strike? How is that different from a critical hit? What is Overpower?

I'm not done, though, gentle reader. No, the Lore makes zero sense and fails to follow a unified narrative. The decision to allow any chapter to be completed in any order just makes the game confusing. Why have chapters if there is no order to the narrative? Also making little sense is giving a "Demon" powers of creation. It's no secret or spoiler to say that Lilith is given credit for the creation of Sanctuary, the question is WHY? She's a demon, not a god. Demons destroy, they cannot create.

Gone also is Holy magic or any kind of Holy Warrior / Priest character, which is really bizarre when considering that we're playing a game of Angels vs Demons vs Humanity.

Skip this game. It's not worth 70 dollars, much less 99 dollars for the Ultimate Edition.

They went back to the skill tree from Diablo 2. Most of the skills are useless. You have to power up one skill to the max just to be able to have some semblance of ability. Everything is a mess. You can have quests from act 1,2, and three all available at the same time. The loot is terrible. The legendary items are terrible and the abilities they grant are also boring or useless. I have gotten 4 different legendary weapons all with the same affix. Boring. I have not even reached level 50 and I am ready to quit. Nothing in this game feels like Diablo. They should go back to runes for weapons an armor. You continuously salvage weapons and get nothing for them. You never get the rare crafting materials necessary to fully upgrade an item. The game is boring. Even more annoying, I wanted the game for Mac because I have always played it on a desktop, but because **** bought Blizzard, they did not release the game on Mac. I have to play it on console (PS4). I guess it does not matter, the game stinks either way. Screw you Blizzard, I am done with Diablo. Not buying any expansions, never going to waste real money on in-game purchases, not going to give Blizzard any more of my money ever. You RUINED Diablo. Congratulations. Expand

Diablo 4 is 10 years too late.
I take offence in how plain everything is. Visual style sucks - it's boring and has low to none variety despite the all small details. The only zone that looks alright in that

The worst tradeoff is of course no random map generation - it's just lame. I'm already bored to death. Instead of the characterizing feature of the series we get **** quests like: collect 50 of the same thing as a random drop, get bugged by despawned loot pile, read bout boring ass life of npc №24 at the next village and get betrayed by him 10 mins later. It's all very uninteresting and very time consuming. It gets stuck in limbo borrowing from casual diablo 3 with it's simplistic gaming loop and clear progression patterns and ultra hardcore poe with it's overly complex loot systems and grand but ultimately boring sprawling paragon board. Those two systems don't clash very well and produce unmemorable mmorpg experience that doesn't know who it aims at. It's only "fun" for like first 20 hours and after that it's either you're stumbling onto a good build with descent clear speed or your game turns into a slog.
I really don't like this game, hope the first seasons only mechanics going to be level 5 world tier and then everyone will understand that there's no content at all. It's like with web3 and it's endless promises of future use cases and how technology will improve, but it never does.

They took such incredible rich lore from the world of Diablo and could have made something incredible out of it, instead they gave us a mad libs story without any soul that could have been easily been written better by AI.

Developers keep nerfing everything that was fun in the game. I've officially quit. Way to ruin what could have been amazing.

We are getting smoother and smoother overall systems and general mechanics. It's true some individual elements and details still need a tweak or a couple of tweaks. But with. the high speed they are. delivering fixes and new content it will be a solid game in 2-3 months.
At the moment its 80% there, unbiased, the game is actually fun and engaging now. So whoever is wondering should they get it. Well in this state mostly Yes. By the time you learn the mechanics and level up a couple of characters, and enjoy the high tier content which again is 80% fine at the moment, in 2-3 months it will be well polished and great. From there until the end of the year it will only grow from great. It's going to be awesome from the looks of the quick and regular updates. So it don't hurt you if you already have a few max level characters ready by that time. It will only allow you to jump in the. newest challenges, instantly. Is it OK to be released unfinished like a late beta? Well probably not, I know this made a lot of people angry.
At the same time this is one of the best ways to customize the systems along with the little details they way the players want it. So we not only got a game here, we got a game that is being changed every week, for us. If you don't want to get what you want, we'll then don't get it.

From me a big thanks to Blizzard, they exceeded my expectations.

OK, I wanted to write a review on the highest level of difficulty to be as objective as possible. Unfortunately, it won't happen soon or maybe not at all. Why? Because the game has the worst possible sin for games - it's boring. So here I am - difficulty 3, level 55. But from the beginning. I'm a huge Diablo fan. I'm a huge Diablo fan. I've played all Diablo games, some for years. I've played at least 5 seasons of PoE. Diablo 4 has great graphics, a bit wordy but still a good and interesting campaign with amazing cinematics. The best campaign of all the mentioned games. You'll definitely see money invested in this product. But in ARPG games, it's not the campaign that matters most, but the endgame. And here, apart from leveling, it's not there at all! Leveling is excruciatingly slow. Forget about a quick boost like in D2 or D3 to be ready for some real action. A high level is not needed anyway, because there would be nothing to do next. Two events called Helltide and Whispers of The Dead - boring and repetitive where rewards are loot boxes. I guarantee that if you do three in a row, you won't want the fourth one. Dungeons? You have over 120 (yes over 120!!!) almost identical dungeons that you must complete at least once to get special powers for your character. If you don't mind that some of them don't even have a final boss, you're forced to do primitive and boring activities over and over again like killing all the mobs inside (yes, every single one), finding and fetching some rocks to open the door (one at a time!), finding and freeing some prisoners (always 5), or collecting some "anima" (that's basically all you do in 120 dungeons), you can raise their difficulty and do them again. If you expect dynamic and interesting combat like in PoE maps, you will be disappointed. If you're thinking about killing bosses like in WOW instances or short relaxing dungeons like in Diablo Immortal - you won't find it here. Dungeons are huge, slow, boring, with few mobs and almost no drop. And that's all you'll do between level 50 and 100. No trading with other players, no ladder to compare your skills with others, no runes, runewords, no item sets (only legendary and epic items). No pvp arenas, battlegrounds, raids (except for a few boring outdoor bosses that appear very rarely). The world seems empty, you meet single people in the city, no one talks in the chat. I'm disappointed. There is little hope though - Diablo 3 was also completely unplayable when it was released and the entire design of the game has been changed over the years. Hopefully the same will happen to Diablo 4. 3 out of 10 in current game state. Expand

The game is a 4/10 at best.

    -No LFG system
    -Dead chat channels
    -No map notes
    -Extremely small loot table
    -Limited endgame options
-DPS "Buckets" that are really just redressing the exact things over and over again with different names. I have no idea why reviewers are falling for this clear b.s. as "innovative" when it is in fact lazy.
    -Clunky trading, no auction house
-"Random" world events that all spawn in the same locations and are all the same things over and over again
-World Bosses that are just loot piñatas that take 10 minutes of hitting and no skill or coordination whatsoever
-A large map but over half of it is impenetrable by trees, cliffs, or other obstacles. They made it large and call it open world when really you are so confined that it feels like you're always on a set of rails.

And the worst part is the very clear set up they've got for Battle/Season Passes and future microtransactions. I've never seen a game with so many currencies. Again, I am baffled that people are lying to their readers and themselves with the clear deception from Blizzard that this will only ever be cosmetic.

Diablo 4: lots of potential, so-so story with a severely underwhelming end boss fight, and extremely long on promises and short on production.

    4/10

Frankly, it needs the No Man's Sky treatment to ever attain the acclaim so many seem to be heaping onto it.

Leveling is slow. Always online, forced multiplayer for a singleplayer game. All the downsides of multiplayer with none of the benefits.

Cash shop day 1 with skins going for 20 bucks each. As much as a full dlc or game.

Battlepass, feels like a glorified subscription service to trick you into playing more and paying more.

A LOT OF important passives and class features locked behind rare rng items. Most build won't work without these.

There are only three endgame viable builds for the sorceress also: arc lash, ice shards, and fire wall. Forget using frozen orb, fire ball, charged bolts, chain lightning, or blizzard. They are just too weak. The enchantment system on the sorceress is just wildly unbalanced also. You'll be running fire bolt just to burn things so that you do more damage to them on any build. Some other big issues are the fact that monster scaling feels bad, item level requirements constantly increase as you level, and the quality of life is horrid. Monsters scaling makes it so that you never really feel powerful. The monsters are always increasing in difficulty as you level. It makes it so that you can play with friends of all levels, but it comes at a big cost. You'll see your level 10 friends killing things faster than you. You also lose out on the sense of power progression that you get from other ARPGs. Item level requirements that constantly increase feel terrible. The game basically has three tiers of items. Sacred and ancestral items come with set level requirements, but then they continue to scale up to your level when dropped. This feels bad as items I am finding now all have a level 85 requirement on them even though they are not more powerful than items I was finding at level 60. The item level requirement scaling makes trading rares terrible, gearing alt characters almost impossible, and it ruins being able to give friends rare items that would be good for them. My other big issue with the game is the lack of quality of life. It feels like they just rushed the game out after the campaign was polished and they threw in some endgame activities. The game lacks basic features like being able to search in your stash and having a place to store your gems. It also lacks social features like being able to talk in a global channel or being able to queue up for group activities. There is no loot filter either, so finding upgrades at higher levels becomes extremely tedious. You also have to run to nightmare dungeons, but a fix for that is supposedly coming within a few weeks. Overall, Diablo 4 just isn't worth the money right now. The campaign is okay, but ARPGs are known for their replayability at endgame. Diablo 4 completely misses the mark in this area due to the reasons above. I would recommend that you wait to purchase this game for probably a year or so. They may address some of the bigger issues by then. Expand

I have just reached the maximum level(100) in Diablo 4. In this review I will tell you why this game deserves a 0/10 score and why you shouldn't spend your hard earned money in this game if you have any self-respect.

The game cost in my region almost half a minimum wage, almost double one of the best games ever, Elden Ring. For that price tag I was expecting something out of this world, an experience to transcend my senses and understanding of the universe. Instead we got an unstable release with plenty of bugs, crashed, disconnects and rubber-bending.

The campaign was probably the high point of this game, it is short but has a decent story without the typical cliche of Starcraft 2, where you commit genocide in a galactic scale to save your girlfriend.

After the campaign and you reach level 50, you will start the mid-game, where you will progress your paragon level, which will take you to level 100. After level 80, this becomes incredibly slow, you might wonder, why that happens, and the answer is as shallow as it is sad. The reason is because there is almost *nothing* to do in the late game after you reach level 100, so they must keep you busy doing repetitive content for the sake of doing it.

The game caps nearly all forms of progression after you reach level 100, and the only thing that remains for you to progress are 'Nightmare Dungeons', but your motivation to consume this content becomes null, because there is no noticeable increase in rewards for reaching higher levels, no better gear from it, nothing, void, emptiness.

What starts to make you really despise this game and its developer are all the obnoxious techniques that they use to waste your time. They added a bunch of affixes to these Nightmare Dungeons that are their 'main content' after you reach level 50. The issue with it however, is that these affixes are completely irrational.

Let me explain, some of these affixes to the dungeon are like this: "all monsters have 40% damage reduction against your damage type". Well, why the heck would I ever do such a dungeon?! So you will just waste your time trying to get a different affix, the problem becomes when you want to play with your friends, and then you need to make an affix matrix to decide which combination screw your group the least. This is lazy and dumb to say the least.

*Important: they will release the first season less than 1 month after the game release, where players must start everything from ZERO. I believe this validates my point that they are doing everything for you to stay away from late game, because there is no late game.

Monetization. In the USA, the game price tag is probably $70 to $90 depending on the version, but in my region (Brazil) it costs nearly half a minimum wage. Now imagine, they charge that premium, plus cash shop for, in their own words, '*MOSTLY* cosmetic goods'. And of course, they also add a lot of irrational inconveniences, such as, obviously, insufficient storage space, so they can sell you more space in the future 'seasonal passes' every 3 months. This is just disgusting, this makes me hate blizzard to another level. I honestly reserve myself from expressing my feelings towards this company and their employees to avoid getting into a no flight list.

Blizzard today is the complete opposite of what it used to be 10 years ago, from quality of product to quality of service, it has all gone considerably downhill. No more live chat support, no more phone support, excessively buggy and unstable releases, misrepresentation of products and disrespect of customers. Not to mention all the scandals that have gone unpunished across the board.

These are the reasons why I rate this game 0/10, and recommend that you should not spend your hard earned money in this trash.

As you get more powerful the enemies do too so high levels feel the same as low levels but you have more abilities i guess? They also have the audacity to have a shop in a $70+ game. It's just boring.

The music and sound effects are top-notch, and they add a lot to the atmosphere and gameplay satisfaction.

The story sadly is the weakest link. other games tried to steer away from the more problematic aspects of the world lore and simply left them up in the air, which is a great choice. but starting with Diablo III we started to get a more American Hollywood like story and trying to over explain everything to the player.
While Diablo III had some of that it didn't get to the silly lengths Diablo IV goes in trying to simplify and explain the story to the player while making every character and event a hollow shell of what could have been.

The main story as well as the side content are mostly forgettable. it's sad Blizzard decided to take a more Hollywood like route in terms of storytelling. it doesn't fit Diablo and doesn't do justice to the game.

Nyrelle is the most useless character out of the bunch and could be cut completely from the game without meaningfully changing the story. story points are forced, and it doesn't even try to seem like it evolves organically. Vigo is another silly character that later is even shoved in some kind of armor/contraption that doesn't make sense in the context of Diablo.

Hardcore players might want to wait. as with Diablo III there are some issues with this game at launch which can cause you to lose many hours of gameplay for reasons outside of the game or your control. (They did mention they are going to add fixes for all of that)

the cringe marketing prior to this game maybe should've clued me in to the level of storytelling in this entry.

also, since it is extremely important... the always online BS continues and guts the HC experience. it's maddening to lose characters to server/game issues and there are more than a few. g*da*nit Blizzard! Again?!
And to put the final nail in the coffin... scaled difficulty. this destroys the game. and how tiers work is dogs**t.
I was bored out of my mind by the end of the campaign from the repetitiveness and lack of challenge.

TL;DR - A Good game in terms of game-play, sound, music, visuals but laughably weak storytelling and there's nothing new under the sun after you finish the short and unimaginative campaign.

    Premier gros point noir donc.

Long story short the game becomes boring really quickly just look at all the other low reviews on here its clearly boring once you hit endgame.

I hit level 80 myself and am going to uninstall, I might try again during season 1 but I do not have high hopes that it will fix anything.

And then, they have the gall to design seasons to make players start from scratch. The whole point of seasons is to offer variety to ARPG players, but leveling and gearing in this game are designed to be such an enormous slog that no sane player would love grinding out a new character every season. Given the base design, it simply does not mesh with the concept of seasons. They'd either have to seriously smoothen out the leveling curve or increase drop rates given the lack of trading.

But based on how the devs are reacting to these concerns, I believe they have neither the IQ nor the willingness to reflect. The Blizzard house is but a ramshackle shell of its former self. Just full of WoW morons who won't be able to support the groaning structure with their "inside-the-WoW-box" thinking.

Beta is not an actual game. From levels 1-50, it might seem fresh and new, and you might enjoy it, especially if you're fond of the story. I'm giving them a zero for the way they did the nerfs and the broken-incomplete game they sold. It's like they built an entire amusement park, but people are only using the seesaws. Now, the developers have to step in and temporarily take the seesaws out of service to encourage players to explore the rest of the park the way they intended.

I must acknowledge the marketing team at Bliz for successfully hyping the game and driving sales. If it were any other game with a different name and a less devoted fan base, I don't think it would have fared as well. As it stands, the game feels more like a beta version rather than a fully polished product.

What made matters worse was that this game had a different fun factor than the previous one. It lacked the unique storyline and compelling characters that made the last game enjoyable. I wondered why I even bothered to spend money on this new release.

In the future, Blizzard should care more about creating genuinely engaging games for its players. As for me, I will be looking elsewhere for my gaming entertainment.

As soon as you turn level 50, you realize just how little depth D4 actually has. All in-game activities essentially just boil down to farming the same dungeons over, and over, and over again. And to make matters worse, these dungeons are just less random, objective based (With lots of backtracking), with FAR lower monster-density than Rifts/Greater Rifts from D3. There is no endgame, and there is barely any progression beyond level 50 (Besides very small ones, like Paragon or getting Ancestral items).

Too many aspects of D4 just feels like repurposed mechanics from D3. What are Glyphs? Legendary Gems from D3. What are dungeons? A less random, and less challenging, and more boring version of a Rift/Greater Rift. What is the entire Ability tree? Just a design of the terrible D3 spell-system. What are passives? They are just the Runes, from D3.

It's a huge mystery to me, why Blizzard continue to make the biggest ARPG in history like an MMO. Why do they cling on to having a clear defined "endgame"? D2 didn't have this, and it worked beautifully, because every level mattered. Every item you found was a potential upgrade. There was a huge diversity in builds, and people kept coming back to it, again and again.

Instead, we got a clear endgame starting at level 50, with a slightly higher plateau at level 65. Anything you found before that point is worthless, gold included, because of the exponential tendency of drops, ripped straight from D3's higher Torments. But as soon as you're 65 there's literally nothing to look forward to, expect just more of the same: All the way up to level 99.... Just Nightmare dungeon, after Nightmare Dungeons, after Nightmare Dungeon. And of course, if you want to be efficient about it, you naturally have to do the exact SAME Nightmare Dungeon, over and over and over again. Can we get Rifts back, please? PLEASE?

Also, am I the only one who find the tooltips in D4 to be wildly confusing and not user-friendly in the slightest? There are so many different stats, but ultimately they are all bad because of their additive nature (instead of multiplicative), and the summary in the bottom only highlights what stats you lose. Well, I can't really make a conformed decision purely based on that, now can I? So, I have to completely ignore the summary and read the entire tooltip from start to the end. Can I then remove the summary, seeing as it's only there to take up a lot of space and adds confusion? Nope. Bad system - Never had problems with any tooltips in any games before, especially not earlier Diablo installments.

D4 is absurdly expensive (with the ultimate edition costing 100€ ($110)), and falls flat as soon as you reach a certain point. Now, if the game was great until that point, that wouldn't be so bad, but the game up until that point was boring, had extremely slow leveling, and don't even get me started on the Renown-system - I hate it. Its like pulling teeth out, just to unlock all your paragon points. It's slow and requires ridiculous amount of hours, just to finish that.

This whole situation isn't something that is easily fixed with Seasons. D4, in it's vanilla form, is just as boring, aimless, and confused about its own identity as D3 was, back when it was released. Maybe with an expansion D4 might get amazing, but as is, its sadly just a huge disappointment.
It's a real shame too, because they really put A LOT of effort into creating a huge and immersive open world - You just don't even see it, because there's nothing to do in it, once you're done leveling. Hell, even leveling is done more effectively in just dungeons. The open world is pointless. Real shame.

And the world isn't just pointless: It's devoid of other players - Of life.
On every shard, there are just a handful of players. But because the world is so big, you only ever run into anyone if you're doing one of 4 activities: Altars of Lilith (Which you're only doing once, btw), a World Boss, a Gathering Legion-Event, or a Helltide (All of which, except the Altars of Lilith, only happens a few times each day, tops). So the social aspects of this game is nonexistent. You can't trade, you cant chat with others near you, you can't join Baal-runs or Trist-runs. D4 is a single player game, that REQUIRES you to know others from outside of D4, if you want to play with them. Otherwise you're screwed. You can try to join a clan, but good luck with that - They are all full, at 149 members.
The game feels more anti-social, than social. Damn, I miss those old 8-man runs in D2. Coming to think of it, think I just might launch that up instead...

And I didn't even talk about the lag, the disconnects, the rubber-banding, and all the other technical issues with the game.

The game was visually pleasing, and the story was pretty good. Going through the campaign took a decent amount of time, but that's where the good ends. The inability to go back and kill bosses after completing the campaign, the fact every dungeon is the same and that its the only thing to do leave it a repetitive mind numbing game with next to no replay-ability. When you compare D2 to D4 you really see the lack of replay-ability and creativity that went into the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is just incredibly bland and boring. The tubing of nothing makes sense, everything that makes Diablo the games they are is made worse for a lackluster pseudo mmo experience.

From the boring itemization, dungeons, and lack of story resolution of any plot points, to the walking everywhere. The game manages to be too easy while not making you feel strong or awesome. The bosses are dpa sinks, that drop so much health you can do most of them without moving at all even as a squishy mage with glass Canon and crappy gear.

The story doesn't resolve anything while being nonsensical, the characters make stupid choices and claim various stupid reasons as motivations that are hard to believe.

Theyy added a lot of "content" but it is boring, tedious content just to make you waste time most of all. Mounts are a solution to a problem that shouldn't exist. Teleport points are terribly distributed. Not to mention that mounts are bugged and often slow you down instead.

    Items are just unfun.

They made this big map, which, for me, had the ironic effect of making the world feel small. You walk from city to city fairly fast, from desert to moh tain peaks.it feels like you could easily see the city you came from at any exotic locations, if the isomorphic view wouldn't prevent it.

    That's how bad it is.

It's a dull, boring and 100% soulless product. Yes, it's a product, not a game. They tried to make it gore and dark -- cause of Path of Exile I suppose -- but failed. Atmosphere is gone. Mystery is gone. Somehow they managed to turn the game about fighting the hell into a snoring fest. What an achievement!
No Matt Ulman (so screw OST, I can not remember a single tune from D4 already), no good story, no meaningful characters. Powerful women all along the way again. And dumb and boring male characters. And Inarius is nothing but a miserable idiot. Sure thing.

Besides modern vibes -- it's just a milking cow, a twisted nostalgia trip, a pinnacle of marketing research. But not a game.
Skills are few and boring. That Prime Evils chore and SOULSTONES again... really? And all that hype about endgame? Man, I'm not paying for that thing in an endgame. I'm paying right from the start. And I wish I knew beforehand how empty that game really is. Cause I would say: ok, thank you, but keep your endgame for yourself. I don't want to push myself for like 20 hours through that PoS and wait for your endgame. I don't need that.

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
