This is - or was until the first major patch - an okay flawed game with hints of fun and playability. It's also a buggy mess that is mostly getting through untested. It's also painfully obvious that Blizzard is not doing any playtesting before they patch anything.

I played Sorc, so color my words as you see fit.

Yeah, this is gonna get worse.

So... there were problems. Major problems. But D3 had similar problems, and they fixed it. And continued a rotation of fixing and breaking and it was ok - eventually I got tired of it all and stopped but I still put in 2 years in that game, so I got my money's worth. So D4 is going to come out strong, right? Right...?

Well, yes and no - they clearly had some good lessons learned. The game had some great moments at first. And Blizzard was trying to fix some of the major complaints with QoL. Nice!

Sorcs were busted in a bad way - sidekick to the sidekick levels of bad. But hey - balance patches fix everything! And season 1 is coming and that's when we'll see our patch! We eagerly wait 1.1.0

    Well, 1.1.0 dropped.

Holy shirt. They made it worse. They literally took every complaint and ignored them. They made the game mathematically worse in every way. Every build players made to try and cope with some of the bad game designs were absolutely destroyed across the board. The best classes got squashed, and the worst classes got caught in the same crush. Sorcs are unplayable. Poor damage and survivability BEFORE the patch GOT MUCH MUCH WORSE. There's no playtesting being done. There's no thought being put into the game at all. All of the QoL changes we asked for were ignored. There's no consistent benefit to playing anymore - and Blizzard hasn't shown any desire to make it happen. They just want to push the battle pass. Why? Because it's an income stream. That's all that matters to them. Shut up and buy the battle pass.

My friends and I were having fun playing. We aren't anymore. I wasted money on this game.

Instead, they sit in echo chamber meetings to decide how THEY think this game should be changed to. This is why I am saying the game was released unfinished… they have made numerous game breaking changes since release. These changes should have been made during beta and before release. Instead, players grew attached to their play style and blizzard continues to change the state of the game (mostly through nerfs) and devalue the hard work many players have worked dozens of hours to achieve. In my case, I played the sorcerer to level 91. The sorcerer was ALREADY the weakest class dependent on specific mechanics to be even close to the lowest tier of all classes. Since the nerf, the gap between sorcerer and the other classes have widened. The DPS of the sorcerer was cut by 1/5 and survivability by at least 1/3. Recent patches targeted the mechanics that sorcerers were dependent on, now it feels like you are attacking with a wet noodle. Granted, all of my gear is close to BIS. Not even close to the next weakest class. This is a common issue with this class, and blizzard refuses to listen to the community. At this rate, this game will become unplayable. The game is truly beautiful and the mechanics were fun. Even though playing the weakest class (before patch 1.1) it was so much fun. Now that the class is nerfed to a point of being unplayable, it is truly frustrating that all the hours I poured in the game feels wasted. Here’s my warning to all: do not purchase this game, the early game mechanics will hook you in but the (continuous) end game changes will leave you dissatisfied and a company like blizzard have shown that they are unwilling to listen to the community. Whoever is in charge of community outreach should be replaced by someone that can be the bridge between the large player base and blizzard. Instead, there is a huge disconnect between the two. Expand

The patch today was a steaming pile. I think most people would agree with that. Nerfs across the board never sit well with gamers, especially in ARPG's. But I don't think they understand how "on the fence" most people already were.

As more and more people reached the end game and realized how truly lacking in depth this game really is, the tone amongst Reddit, Twitter, Discord, and Forums started to shift. That was two weeks ago.

The fact is, people are getting bored. This is an ACTION RPG with slow-paced action. It's a LOOT hunter with boring loot. This is an MMO with no social aspects. A dungeon crawler that feels more like a game of fetching the stones and putting them on the pedestals.

The cracks are starting to show in the end game, and people feel like we're playing a paid Beta, you decide now is the time to drop a patch that **** on every build. What better way to push everyone over the edge than to nerf everything?

    Damage? NERF
    Defense? NERF
    Cooldown? NERF
    XP? NERF
    Power Leveling? NERF
    Helltide? NERF

Sure, some builds needed to be fixed, but you didn't have to completely gut entire classes while you were at it. But the nerfs are not even the point of this post. I don't even care about them. I'll adapt and overcome, I'm not afraid of a challenge. But this patch made me really think, why play season 1 at all? You didn't address a single one of the NUMEROUS valid complaints about this game.

6 new uniques? If you think adding 6 new unique items for every 3 month season is an acceptable pace to bring some depth to the sorely lacking itemization in this game, I might as well not play until season 30.

No leaderboards? No in-game trading with an option for self-found mode? No paragon board reset? No Occultist changes? (Cost or listing possible outcomes) No group finder? No stash tabs?

Nothing, in fact. Not a single thing to shine a bit of light on this **** sandwich. You made the game slower. Mobs take longer to kill, and yield less xp, and we're now gated to lower world tiers until the "recommended" (now mandatory) levels of 50 for WT3 and 70 for WT4.

So on Thursday, we're expected to start over, but this time it's all slower, less fun, time & experience gated. And all to get to the end and realize what an unfinished and lacking game this really is. Again. Still.

Maybe if you spend less time trying to "balance" a SINGLE PLAYER PVE GAME WHERE NOBODY CARES ABOUT BALANCE, and more time adding things that are actually fun and immersive, you might sell more battle passes and cosmetics.

    What an absolute joke.

A world of versatility and power was suddenly replaced with stifling constraints. The once robust Necromancers, Barbarians, Rogues, Sorceresses, and Druids faced crippling nerfs that stripped them of their former glory.

No relief came from the enchantment front either. The mysterious and potent art stayed as costly as ever, draining resources without a hint of mercy. The fiery Helltides, once swift as the wind, now languished at a snail's pace, mocking the determined players with their sluggish currents.

The art of Boosting, once a glorious race to the top, was crushed under the weight of patch 1.1, now resembling an uphill battle in waist-deep snow. The once diverse gameplay was corralled into Nightmare dungeons, where other challenges were reduced to mere whispers in the wind.

Experience bonuses that were once the spoils of defeating mighty adversaries became mere crumbs, a meager 10% of their former glory. The sensation of triumphant victory against higher-level beasts was replaced with a hollow echo of what once was.

The essence of combat, the critical strikes and vulnerability damage, faced the wrath of the patch as well. Slashed by 17% and 40% respectively, they further dimmed the once blinding brilliance of the game's weapons.

Diablo 4 was not a sprint; it was a marathon. But with the arrival of Patch 1.1, the marathon had turned into an endless crawl through a desert of nerfs, each oasis of fun seemingly further away than the last.

But there was no all-powerful Avatar, no master of all classes to rise and restore balance. Instead, a call to arms echoed amongst the players: It's time to speak up, to say 'enough is enough.' It wasn't about persevering silently or accepting the nerfed world; it was about making their voices heard, about standing up for the game they loved. Because when it comes to the games we play, the hope is not just something we give ourselves. It's something we demand from those who hold the reins. This is the true essence of player power.

Blizzard deploys nonsensical patches that break the underlying mechanics of the game and in doing so ensures that it has no long-term playability. Why would anyone invest time in this game if they're just going to casually break whatever you've built to juice some internal KPI with a complete disregard for whether or not it makes the actual game fun to play?

Not anymore. Patch 1.1 gutted every build and slowed the game down to a grinding halt. Less damage, reduced stat numbers on items, more garbage stats, less exp for monster kills, less cooldown reduction so combat encounters last longer, less rewards from helltides, less item drops from elite kills, less survivability, just to name a few of the changes. And of course, no QoL improvements and nothing that the game was sorely lacking besides a few bug fixes.

Blizzard see what the community asks for, do the exact opposite, and then do a fireside chat to justify it with "our developers have a vision". F*** off. Uninstalled. I might come back when you patch the fun back into your game.

That loyalty has since been plagued by incredible ignorance and ineptitude by the developers leaving the game feeling like an over-whittled plank of driftwood, with none of it's luster or sheen left over from the fine mahogany log it took years to cultivate.

There is a framework here that could have allowed stats and aspects to prop up nearly any build a player wished to build, but instead created the same niche-only game design we've seen from so many ARPGs in the last decade. With constant dilution hitting the games mechanics, the resulting gunk has little substance, and causes an already unpleasant grind to feel akin to quicksand.

On the cusp of their first season, the final legs of this framework are being shattered, and splintered, leaving little reason to attend.

    - Why the hell does Sacred and sub 725 gear drop in wt4? Like.. what? WHY? The entire itemization process is awful. When I hit 100, I want to farm better gear than when I was level 70.

    - NM dungeons. Okay Blizzard, we get it that you want us to farm those. But the thing is, they kinda suck and are not fun. Resource Burn? Seriously? Stormbanes Wrath? Lightning Dome? In what world did you think this was fun? They aren't fun. They're the opposite of fun. In fact, despite that I've done hundreds of NM dungeons, honestly they are just not as good as Greater Rifts. D3 was better in this way.

    - What's with the pointless puzzles? I don't need the menial task of clicking 2 levers next to spikes that do 0 damage, over and over and over again. Just why?

    - Every dungeon feels flat. No depth, no stairs, no secret cow level or pony level awaiting us. Same stupid fight, every time only they have some obnoxious modifier that just isn't fun at all.

    - Everything about how the horse moves pisses me off. Gets stuck on everything, can't sprint in towns.

    - Inventory management is pure garbage and needs an entire rework. I'm not even going to harp on this because there are others here that have posted amazing suggestions. The entire aspect system is awful. I love the idea of an upgraded codex system that doesn't steal inventory space. I have 7 mules just to hold gear on 2 characters. Most of the aspects have like 1% difference in their stats, so pointless and frustrating.

    * Movement feels slow
    * Patches that conclusively prove that Blizzard have zero respect for their players and that they have absolutely no idea what they're doing or what the community wants
    * I can't even rebind an exclusive "move" to my mouse wheel
    * You only have like 4 stash tabs that are account wide; there are no character-specific tabs and storage space is sorely limited
    * Certain things have pointless caps (what's even the point in capping the sigil materials at 10K or whatever?)
    * Build-diversity is nigh non-existent (there's like three viable core builds per class)
    * The paragon tree is awful and uninteresting (and missing essential QoL things like a reset button or being able to allocate nodes without committing)
    * Loot is extremely uninteresting (and there are no loot filters etc, making like 25% of your playtime reading item stats)
    * Dungeons are all super-samey and dungeon bosses are not challenging at all
    * World bosses and legions are of zero challenge as well (especially late-game)
    * Helltides are really boring and grindy (and since the patch, not even worth doing)
    * No trading (and no solo self-found)
    * Whisper quests are equally boring and grindy
    * PVP is utterly imbalanced and not fun at all (it's either just getting ganked by a group of higher level characters or getting one-shot by some lv.100 barbarian)
    * There's not really a single challenging or engaging boss fight in the whole game (except possibly Uber Lilith that I haven't done yet)
    * Leveling is a slow and boring slog
    * Renown is just a boring grind that you do once and end up exhausted after
    * Class balance is pretty terrible
    * Sorcerer has been rendered completely useless
    * Crafting is sub-par
    * Sigils are uninteresting

Played 3 class in the pre-season. A bit repetitive at first but it was fun, doing dungeons with clan members, perfecting your build on the go.
Then the season 1 patch notes came and make leveling take freaking more time and tedious.
More play time does not mean more fun. Game is not respecting player's time.

Patch 1.1.0A ended the game for me and for many others. They really need to play their own game before making such drastic (poor) changes. So many features/QOL/pain points they have not bothered addressing, yet take quick action if there were an exploit/bug which gets hotfixed within an hour. They took a good game that has so much potential and continue to keep ruining it.

    The good:
The campaign: It's long and good, but then it gets repetitive. It has very good cinematics, very good music, the graphics are good and the voice acting it's good
The Bad: The game after level 50 is the same, everything takes longer, but that would be decent within the game progress(too much to learn). Then it comes a point where everything is slow and it feels like a chore

    The Bad:
The game after level 50 is the same, everything takes longer, but that would be decent within the game progress(too much to learn). Then it comes a point where everything is slow and it feels like a chore rather than fun. You are not rewarded with good loot and you are punished for wanting to do hard "end game" content (if there is one) because of that.

    Overall:
it's a good game until you finish the campaign. Then it turns into a grindy game with little to no rewards for your time invested. But in my opinion (I can be wrong) the worst was the out of touch recent patch note, because it didn't address the concerns or issues that the game has. It just makes que game longer and grindy chore with no rewards and some classes just don't feel worth playing.
I can understand that is was a hard nerf because of the lunch of Season 1 and they don´t want the players to rush the content and stop playing. But this it's not the way to do it.
As i said, i can be wrong because of how i feel the update based on my experience playing it now, but that's how i see it.

Blizzard hates its players. Every class is getting nerfed over and over again until the game becomes a ridiculous grind. Sorcerer had the most hate of all. The gear was bland an uninteresting. After level 25 gear which I upgraded to 40 I never tried anything new because there was nothing unique or strong enough to replace them. The most unique items are so rare 99.99999% of players will never see them. Sorc skills were dependant on one skill so every sorc had to run frost nova to inflict vulnerable. That skill just got nerfed by 40% in the most recent patch making sorc utterly useless. Every action taken by the dev is a giant middle finger to the community. Then there’s the writing. It’s absolutely terrible and full of plot holes. For example, one of the strongest NPC’s who defeated a high level demon wanders off at a completely inappropriate time and gets caught on a pillar and he dies. It’s so dumb. The characters are stupid to the point of wilful neglect by the writers. There’s nothing relatable about any of them. The whole game is a giant cat and mouse chase. It’s just irritating and has no redeeming features.

I could discuss so much more of how awful and poorly written this game is but I don’t want to waste any more time on it. They took the best of Diablo 2 and 3 and destroyed it. What a waste of £60. Will never buy from blizzard again. You have been warned!

They seems to have no clue what so ever why players like me have deleted all their eternal realm characters and uninstalled the game after the patch notes where released.

So i give it a rundown.

Its not fun to see multiple offensive options reduced in power by 40% or more while getting nothing in return.

Its not fun to see survivability reduced across the board without any thing to make up for it.

Utterly patetic lines in the patch notes like increased the time it takes to leave a dungeon from 3 to 5 seconds.

Really show how utterly incompetent the diablo 4 devs are when it comes to figuring out what players find fun and enjoyable in the game.

I have played the diablo series since diablo 1 and i cant recall ever seeing a worst patch released for a game ever in my life.

I am glad genuinly good games like grim dawn still exists in the genre.

I for one has no hope that blizzard will even underatand what a **** they created until several years down the road.

At that time with games like PoE 2 and BG3 having already been released i am not even sure its worth my time as a gamer to even give the game a second look.

I would suggest anyone looking into arpgs to avoid diablo 4 for the moment until at least 5 or more seasons have passed.

Diablo 3 has always been the ugly duckling when it comes to the diablo series but even that game has diablo 4 beat by leaps and bounds nowadays.

For those that are new to arpgs i would suggest last epok, grim dawn and later when you want more meat on the bones PoE for your arpg needs.

At the moment diablo 4 after the patch is not even a better arpg the wolcen and that is obe of the lowest bars to reach in gaming history.

The endgame is so boring with lack of content and lack of any activity that makes you feel like it's an enjoyable experience, and the itemization leaves you feeling like you are just wasting time. The world tier system was a good addition, but then they put artificial levels on when you could jump up to the next tier while simultaneously slowing down the leveling system making it even more slow and boring.
You are literally expected to run the same boring content over and over without any expectation of rewarding loot that is anything but marginally better at best. Even the higher skilled players are forced to grind an abundance of low challenge content ad nauseum just to check a level box to get back to more challenging content.
The developers have gone out of their way to suck what limited fun was in the game while introducing the new season just to have everyone have to start back over from scratch for a more painful and less fulfilling experience. I highly recommend people sit this game out if you haven't purchased it yet until the developers start playing their own game to see how awful it is and start making real quality of life improvements. It is all but unplayable in its current form unless you enjoy repetitive game play that is a huge step back from Diablo 3.

The game is lacking endgame content. For the 1st season of the game, Blizzard tries to extend the lifespan of the current content by slowing down the progress for the player. This is just dumb and lazy attempt at a solution. The correct solution would be to add more content but I guess that´s a far too difficult task for a badly managed game studio.

Since launch there are huge issues people are reporting and struggling with, and blizzard just introduced first Big patch that didnt address any of those issues but further crippled playability:

    1. Item progression - I have literally no emotions about legendaries. Is it yellow or legendary it’s just yet another item to check after you’re done with your run. You just check if the legend has a perfect roll on aspect and that’s it. On top of that at level 100 I’m still wearing lvl 60 item above many (all except 1 below 100, most sub 90) because the stats just rolled well with decent item power. Can you bind ilvl and stats to nightmare dung level ? Currently there is no point of pushing nightmare dungs at all. You just try to farm items wherever, in fact just yesterday I got an upgrade from a normal dung when boosting a friend, I was farming nd+ 50-90 for quite a while got 1 upgrade post 100. There is literally no point other than do whatever you like and try to beat nd+ 100 for the achievement. Don’t sweat with too hight nd+ it doesn’t benefit you at all.

storage space is a joke - making mules is great becasue additional storage boxes have to be added in a season or be payed for right ? How much kb’s such a storage may take to limit it to 3… come on. On top of that you added new kind of gem and more aspects that we don’t have the space for anyway

Every build on every class just feels like a worse d3 version. I want to make an uber killer that will wreck everything if you grind long enough in the meantime regardless of class it just doesn’t feel like that ever. Barb ww or hota is nothing like barb in d3 rogue is so much worse than dh, necro is… who even knows what necro is, druid is a tanky mage and mage is just a scholar… and you keep nerfin any fun build and make it non viable

Talent respec - you literally discourage respecs, it costs A LOT to respec, and getting gear/rerolling for main spec takes ages and then we want to check other options… Can we get the drawer option back alrdy ? It can cost w/e just bring it back

Aspects are just done wrong, another RNG put on top of an RNG, enough said

Alts/twinks - seriously after speending like 150-200 hours to farm to 100, I have to level AGAIN from 0 to 50 and then keep running after someone to have this 1/10 of a d3 taxi experience ? OK taxi in d3 was way to powerfull but if I have friends that are willing to lvl my alt what’s the big deal to not let us do that, that brings us to another point… and you then nerf exp gained. Have you even checked how many people got to 100 because I haven’t seen that many ?

Party and exp range - do we literally have to keep running after each other holding hands like we’re in some cult ? The moment someone wonders to another branch buff breaks. What is the point of that ? And you further discourage playing with someone by adding more HP to monster while in a party !

No filter on items - do I have to keep an excel sheet for my stash and later on twinks to know where is what aspect ? You had it figured out in d3 pretty much and we go back now to no filters what the hell ?

Elemental res - this one is just a filler and waste of space, please just make it all res + or get rid of it at all, no one is doing any res gear, especially with this randomized rolls

World bosses and most events just doesn’t have any sense. You walk in clear, or gather ashes just to get some resources because good drops are not an option for sure

Rerolling aspects - can we get the roll table back, or at least have it randomized not to have the same 2-3 affixes being rolled back and forth that is in the end preveneting in getting anything good ?

Unique - thank god they at least have more value so I can get more gold out of it for my respecs… because 98/100 uniques are just not for me or any meta build that I want to push dungs with, and the new uniques bring little to nothing to the table

Shared stash - what is the point of sharing items if they are lvl bound so I can’t actually give any of those to other chars unless I level them to 60/80 ?

End game - that one is just horrible. I got all of my glyph for any builds I want to test to max level even before 100. There is no progression after hitting max level excluding item progression that is bad as I mentioned earlier.

Haven’t been able to run a dungeon solo since patch how I was having a hard time before the patch even happened.. I didn’t playing Diablo for 20 years. This is absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had.

Original campaign was alright, however so many aspects of the game are unfinished and low quality. Just moving around using the horse is the worst experience of any game let alone arpg game. S1 ruined the entire game, Blizzard are actual dumb poo poo heads.
    Doubt they’ll even fix anything.

Started playing at launch and thought I would return to my roots by playing the sorcerer. Tried several builds and just trying out my own build, but they made the character way too squishy. Further nerfing so many builds will just make the game that much more miserable to play. Original story is great, but the end game just isn't adding up to what it should be. Uninstalled it from my computer and I might come back to it in a few months, only time will tell. Expand

Its pretty obvious at this point the developers of the game dont actually play it. Issues that need to be addressed to make the QoL better for the players are left on the back burner for changes that make the game more grindy and less satisfying for players who dont play 10 hours a day. Some of the decision made are just...odd, they made a loot based game with boring loot, a dungeon crawler with cut and paste repetitive dungeons with no significant differences from one to the next- 150 dungeons with just a handful of bosses and once done with the campaign you never get to see those bosses ever again. The cost of rebuilding your character to try new things is only possible if you, once again play 10+hours a day and even then is just ridiculous. They had 3 previous games to build off of but decided they wanted to shoot for a more AARPG/MMO style game but then start taking out multiplayer aspects because they decided a small percent of players are leveling too fast and shining a spotlight on the fact they biffed the endgame? So the decision was to make leveling even worse for others so they dont have a chance to get there? Not everything is bad but if you throw a pearl in an elephant turd im people arent gonna glove up and look for the pearl. Expand

Giving 1 as the game surely had some minor fun until the recent patch S1. Now a ND I used to clear in 10 minutes ( yeah, I play sorc) now takes 30 if at all manage to finish it. Besides, they broke even more my fav class.

I was having a blast and they sucked the fun out of it. While I’m disappointed, I should have expected this. This is blizzard we’re talking about, and they have a history of doing this. This feels like a push towards heavy monetization. If people aren’t playing, they can’t monetize. The longer they play, the more likely they are to buy.

Feelings like this game is in beta. Congrats blizzard released D4 before POE 2. lets see how well that worked for you.

an unfinished game, the devs patch decisions must be supported by their internal metrics but they seem at odds with the player base which has turned toxic, best avoided until they manage to get it fixed

Diablo 4 is a great foundation and jumping off point for out of touch developers who took the most engaging parts of the game at launch and made them objectively worse in the very first content patch. Let's hope they turn it around before too many people move on.

Game is a proper slog after patch 1.1. It was pretty bad before, then Blizzard decided to double down on making the game as bad as possible. There's too many good games out to waste your time on this trash.

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
