Feels very short sighted and has made the game boring and not fun. This is a lot based game, and the loot in end game is just terrible. Every ancestral or legendary item is dismantled or sold. You're only chasing a very specific roll set, since that's the only way your build can be competitive. I would hold off buying and playing this game until these issues are addressed.

    So far from D2 :

    No potion management
No Item set / Rune words
Damage boom boom just to make yourself proud "i did 1 million damage"... so ?
    No mercenaries (i loved them)
Already dissapointed by D3 when i instabuy it few years ago, i'm not falling in your trap blizzard i didn't bought your 70€ game

Diablo 4 is an empty world, with big empty dungeons. Where a level 10 character is killing the same mob faster than a well geared level 80 character

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Blizzard hates fun. In all honesty, this is my first Diablo game and enjoyed the first 40 hours with my friends, but realized I wasn't getting anything back for my time. The legendaries and good loot wouldn't be enough for me (Sorcerer) to be viable in the ene game content compared to other classes. When you've done all the statues and main story, things fall off after level 70 because you're left with nothing new to do. Tree of Whispers becomes repetitive, world bosses don't spawn enough, helltides are now bugged. You're left grasping for straws trying to get a unique in hopes it will being back the dopamine of fun you had in the beginning. Expand

They managed to make the game "unfun". The grind from 70+ to 100 took already too much time, they are trying to compensate for the lack of content by dragging it out.

Looks good. That's about all I can say about it. The classes are kind of boring. Haven't played the druid because I won't support morbid obesity. I do really like the vanity system. Maybe the first season will drop and I'll wet my pants. I do like getting to ride around on a horsie and unlocks and items being account based. I do wish they had more than the same 4 faces for all of the characters. But, hey, I can play a generic European, Asian, African, and angry looking Italian. Could use some more hair styles too. Maybe they plan to drop a DLC for $400 with 4 more faces and 10 more hair styles. *fingers crossed* Expand

There is no reason whatsoever that a game like this needs to be online only. It was an inexplicably stupid choice for them to make being online a requirement. Blizzard is clearly out of touch and not able to deliver a Game well done and polished.
I played it pretty hardcore since release every Day 8 hours upwards cause i was craving for a worthy Diablo II or III Experience, i got tired of all the Copycats even when i enjoyd most of them like PoE.

This Game has so many Bugs, some small some big, and with each update that fixes an unbeleavbly ton according to the patchnotes and hotfix notes it adds more new ones and didnt even fix the ones that were fixed according to the patchnotes.

Rubberbanding of Doom at random times.
Badly coded like for example our client always reads out all inventory/stash/whatever of any player we encounter while yet theres no benefit for that except the performance issues on client side this creates.
Mico stutters since Patch 1.1 everywhere at the worst times.
PAtch 1.1 was a Joke too, and the Emergency Campfire with excuses and promises that this should have come together with the so called "buffs" in three weeks is the Joke of the Century.
They did not expect that kind of Backlash and had to find an excuse , they never planned to balance it out with buffs and tweaks, they simply wanted to extend playtime and make it more tedious so people will buy pass lvl ups more likely to get the rewards without that hassle.
Forcing PvP Quests on Players in Seasonjourneys in a Game that is as unbalanced with oneshot mechanics and builds left and right is a bad choice too, one that lead to my unistall of both the Game and Battlenet in total.
If i want to have PvP i play real PvP games and not a friggin Hack And Slay Looter !
Yeah yeah go grab a friend and kill him excuses ive heard it all, give me a break with this whiteknighting.
    Where are Sets?
Oh a hundred people of a few millions got uberuniques? Quick lets nerf that down hard, god forbid people have fun finding an Endgame BiS Item.
The Whole Idea of grabbing Affixes from one item and put it onto a perfect Yellow Item is so bad and boring.
Only in the first week i got exited for legendary drops, once i understood all the Mechanics i didnt even bother picking stuff up, hell it even gets send to you box then.
Wich has way to less space for all the Classes and Builds anyway.
And thats not even a thing they can fix easily cause now the Devs mentioned that the Box is perma dupe cheking all the Things wich impacts Performance heavily...... is this a Joke? Not for Blizzard in 2023! JEsus Christ.
The Story itself was pretty mediocre, the Characters where great and had much potential but in the End it felt rushed and to short, and yes i did it all, twice. Then i skipped everything for the other Toons
    Multiple 90-95 Classes.
No Quest sharing? No group progress for questing together on sidequests and that? I have never ever played a Game Coop that was supposed to be an MMO type of Game that was so poorly designed on its Multiplayer aspects, jesus christ.
No more Trading at all for Leg or Uniques, not even with your Partymembers.
What happend to Diablo III´s one hour of Trade possibility with the people you where together after finding it? Nah that could reduce actual playtime if people give away the items they dont need to their partymembers, instead lets just let them hope to find the right thing themselfs.
No MAtchmaking or anything ingame, Chats Dead, why going a Lost Ark Copycat route of beeing an MMO Diablo when you dont even provide the simple things. there is absolutly no Point in making it the Way it is right now, no Housing No show off to other people cause everyone looks the same anyway, the Costumes are bland as hell.
#God am i mad, this was the Last Time Blizzard has seen me as a Customer, i did quit after the Blizzcon Disaster with Immortal after owning all their Games and blowing Money at em, only came Back for D4, noticed how much of a S* Show it is and now im gone forever.
Also it tells alot of the Industry and Media when you compare User Reviews and "professional reviews" even before Patch 1.1, its sickening.

I've played Bethesda games that were better at launch than this. Fallout 76 wasn't this bad, and that game was bad. It's like Blizzard hates their playerbase. Every chance they have to make the game better they go and do the opposite. D3 had a rough start, but I didn't loathe the game. This is so bad. I'd get a refund if it was possible. I've played indie games from small studios that were better and did a better job of balancing and listening to players.

They ruined one of the best franchises in history. Oh and there's a cash shop too.

The suits above, or whoever is in charge of making the game focused on "player engagement/playtime" has ruined the game. Slows its pacing down so you spend more time grinding away at the same content you've already experienced over and over.

They want you to spend more time leveling, playing through the story, dying over and over again to simple monsters, because forget survivability in a ARPG game, you want glass cannon! So maybe, just maybe, you'll look at the cosmetics shop and buy something because you're that bored, so its worth it for them in the end.

My God it's uninspired, unimaginative and just downright boring. No sets, no runewords, nothing new or fresh, no build altering uniques/legendaries, just **** stat sticks that give percentage increases. World events are ok, just lacks variety, gets boring quick or the voice lines makes no sense. (ghost complaining along the lines got lost in the woods, but the event is happening in a damn desert with no tree in sight).
3 world bosses only and one only every 6ish hours kind of sucks as you normally can only do 1 a day with the spawn times being so far apart.

    Gameplay
Feels fine on the most part but there is this horrible issue where the character completely misses the target or fires the skill at another enemy, this has caused me a lot of deaths as something I need to kill gets ignored. if this is fixed perhaps I will give +1 to rating.
Skill tree is meh compared to Diablo 3. The builds in Diablo 3 could vary so much and I loved it for it.
Skills were completely changed in some cases by a click of a button, now you have to pay to change it? Why? There is no point to it. In Diablo 4 it is 2 options for a skill on what it does differently, and most of the times it is very minor changes.

    Performance
Game is smooth once everything is loaded in, before that good luck with rubber banding after you return to town or back to where you just were. They are trying to make it seems like they have these amazing short loading times between areas but stuff are not loaded in yet. I would rather wait the extra 5-10s and have a smooth experience than what ever this garbage is.

    General stuff
For some reason this online game again, no point though as you mostly play alone or with some friends at most. The open world MMO experience is just bad, you see a person do things but you never communicate, there is no point to it. Elden Ring's system had more interaction and those were some word on the floor.
4 stash tabs, that is it, they are also small so good luck storing all your items and all the potions and all the legendary aspects. Per character.
Also gems worth 4 gold? and a white item more than that? feels like they just assigned some random value and forgot to change it back.
rerolling item stats are stupidly expensive, starts at 20kish and next roll it is already 100K+, their balance team are clearly bad.
Reroll a character skills costs 150k where I am at.
Some endgame content is unbalanced or not rewarding enough for the effort you need to put in.
Loot drops are unrefined and just plain bad atm.
World lvl 50 is where you start T3 on avg and endgame starts and items lvl 50+ have better stat rolls on them. You do the world boss and it drops lvl 44 legendaries which is garbage since you are 50+ on T3 and your yellow items are better than they are. This also happened turning in the tree of whispers' and getting rewarded with subpar items.
There are still bugs in their dungeons' progression as multiple times I got stuck not able to progress in the dungeon and had to restart it.
Also be prepared for unexpected server restarts as they do not have any warning in place, so enjoy redoing the stronghold or dungeons.

Shop is trash, prices are insane and it should be criminal to charge so much for stuff after charging a ridiculous amount for the base game in the first place.
There are some cosmetics for the horse dropping, but very rare, got like 2 in about 70ish hours of playing.

Releasing the game on a Tuesday and 4 days early access by paying more is just scum, honestly.

    TLDR
Activision Blizzard is being greedy once again, the game is average at best currently and not worth the price. Plenty of bugs and boring skill system makes me not want to continue playing for much longer. Should have been an offline game, as it is a bad attempt of an online game.

    Update:

One shots are not fun, there's no sense accomplishment from nearing death only to just be able to overcome the battle.

I persisted with the barbarian as I enjoyed the class despite them being nerfed to death since launch, barely hitting for 1 million crits as a whirlwind barb while the necro hits for 1.8billion, but now after the latest patch I don't see the point in continuing with my eternal character as the cost to respec is far too expensive.

I spent around 10 million to respec from a solid whirlwind build to HOTA as I heard they were better for lillith, only to have the class destroyed.

It's disappointing to work full time but manage to spend over 100 hours on one character as a casual player in hopes of beating the final boss and getting the platinum trophy, but still not be able to defeat the final boss because of dumb one shot mechanics.

I'm not impressed by "open world" games that are open world for the sake of being open world, and I don't think this type of game benefits from that. Sure you get things like world bosses, but ultimately the ARPG is best played with smaller groups in instanced areas, not like an MMO.

Story is ... not bad, but not the best. It has its moments, cutscenes are rly great, but the Logic and the progress is far behind what it could be.

    And the game itself?

It feels incomplete to me. No Set items, rly less uniqes, no one remembers the name of the smithes in towns. I mean ... come on, everyone knows who is Headrig.

The battlepass don't give enough ingame currency to even buy one item ... you can't buy nothing with the currency from the battlepass, everything in shop costs more than you'll get.

Bad project management and staff changes mid-way, constant changes with no clear direction or clear identity what it wants to be or which type of players it wants to target, and because it tries to cater to everybody, it ends up pleasing nobody. The endgame, however you define it, is already done around level 85-90 where you get most of your BIS gear and get maybe 1 or 2 small upgrades. Leveling up to 100 will get you not much more than a couple paragon points, and whether you want to push 100 NMDs or uber Lilith is up to you, but there is very little to do around after 85-90: no item farming (grailing), no crafting, no trading. The bugs and missing QoL features and the fact that game requires multiple balance changes, and some emergency changes 1.5 months already after it launched, are clear indicators that they've totally messed up the testing phase.

tl;dr: game released too early, too many bugs & missing features, no clear direction

EDIT: Oh btw, there is no Diablo in this Diablo game. Who cares about Lilith, the very evil, the franchise's namesake, Mr. Big D himself, who returned time and time again, is NOT in this game. Ridiculous! Obviously reserved for an expensive $70 expansion.

Since the original patches everyone I joined with abandoned it. Given we spent about 100 Euros each on it, we were motivated to give it a fair shot.

They made characters feel weak and powerless, nerfing many end game charateristics and build while at the same time making the broken and frustrating loot system worse. So, where you would normally automatically change build, though it is painful, you cannot as they are totally gear dependant and the loot you need will never drop. I am have a lvl 77 druid and it is miserable to play at this point.

But the core game just doesnt exist. There is literally no depth. They did nothing but mimic D3 in an extremely flawed way. Making it not only pure repetition, but totally frustrating and unrewarding. I got to the point of playing while listening to audio books and with the last patch, just gave up entirely as they made it worse and worse.

I hear microsoft are buying Blizzard. I normally would not wish that fate on an enemy. But it somehow seems like a fitting punishment for a game company that lost all their best people, flirted heavily with woke and are now inevtiably, destined to go broke.

And what on earth have you done with the Sorcerer, while other classes breeze through the instances? Is it truly that difficult to achieve balance? Wouldn't it be possible to increase the damage of an attack by just 1% to see where things lead? The Season Stones are utterly ridiculous, and is that really all? Why must players level up an entirely new character when only 1-3 stones are required? Seriously, Blizzard? This deserves a solid 6! I am a huge fan of D1, D2 and D3, having hundreds of hours in the latter. Basically it was obvious that Blizzard wasn't going to take any risks with this game, every bit of info they'd dropped after the initial announcement screamed that they are going to make the same ugly decisions all over again. Basically it was obvious that Blizzard wasn't going to take any risks with this game, every bit of info they'd dropped after the initial announcement screamed that they are going to make the same ugly decisions all over again. And it is basically what we got. It is the same vanilla pre-RoS D3 with the new graphics and the same systems they renamed and repacked to different containers. Same very casual, very clean, very controlable (by blizzard) way of playing the game with nothing of interest for your average player, let alone hardcore fans of the genre. Runes system is your "new" skill tree. Kanai cube is your new aspect thing. Your class-sets are paragon boards now. Same D3 1.0 skill system: generators, spenders. Your vanilla D3 inferno is the new world tier 4.

The story is retconned and is really nothing special despite really being darker.
The graphics are mostly mediocre by today's standarts. The game engine really lacks contrast and sharpness, the picture is just blend and gray. The art style is superb though. Designers, artist, modelers outdid themselvels once again. The cinametics are fire. The audio-design is good.
The monetisation and policies are pure cancer.
The endgame is non-existant. Same with the replayability.
The game is just boring. It doesn't demand any brain activity from you from second one. Eventually it will become D3, meaning every season you start from scratch following some easy guide from some dude, never required to make any decision for yourself. You just grab a list of items from the floor, do some obvious mumbo jumbo and you're done.
People will forget about D4 very very soon. There's just not enough stuff to experiment on there. And there's no signs that is about to change, on the contrary.

    Overall.
    As a single-player story game 710.
As an online multi-player service game 010.
Oh, and let's substract some points for the beyond good and evil greed behind the monetisation plan.
The final score is 110. And honestly I am being generous. Let's not forget I've been waiting for this game for 10 years. And that is what I've got.

There is NO point to play seasonal if you end up with a character once it become Eternal and its zero fun to play. This game will always have a nerf for every new season, that will gut your main eternal realm characters. Why haven't they done something with storage, why do we have to wait will Season 2 for a gem tab? Why, well because they want to make it a slow painful slog. I've been on the last couple of days and its a ghost town. Everyone I know quit the game, because it wasn't fun. If they come back, IF, why would they stay? Diablo Immortal's taint has... its just NOT Blizzard North anymore. Miss the days of DIablo 1 before Sierra Online ruined it with Hellfire. Spend your money elsewhere. Me, oh I'll keep playing Eternal Realm. Its my second job now. Do you think I want to actually have to interact with my family? Nahhhh. So yeah, see you in Season 1 along with everyone else who said they quit. Eternal Realm is a ghost town. Expand

After you reach level 50, it sucks!
The only activities are dungeons that aren't even worth it at world level 4. The nightmare dungeons are also not worth it, neither for levelling nor for the gear. There is far too little XP for everything.
Every effective way to collect XP is patched immediately.
In any case, I am extremely disappointed and will now stop at level 75.

That, or you can always respecc ofcourse; which is tedious AF, by having to click all the seperate nodes, and spending millions of ingame gold. Now you got that covered; ofcourse all the gear you spend gold on is worthless, as specific things like crit and vulnerable are nerfed to hell and back again. Go and grind that new gear; but we made the options of farming gear way slower. Blizzard, you've killed your own game and you know it.

Have thousands of hours in Path of Exile and other ARPGs, had some hopes to maybe buy this game sometime after release. And after the latest patch notes.... those hopes are gone...

Was not that surprised after OW2 disaster tbh, hopes are gone for Blizzard in general at this point...

This game is one perfect example of how the d4 team at blizzard does not know their games audience, and what people who play this genre actually like.
The interviews before the games release and after the games release were already made me think that they have no idea what they are doing, and they are definitely not playing their own games.
After the first season it is very much clear that they do not know the basics as well.
Until they change the director, and the executives I don't think this game will be fixed, doesn't matter how much good developers they have.

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
