Lackluster graphics, game play, story, and skill trees. DRM to play a single player game? What are we paying for then? HUGE disappointment. If you want to own it, pirate it. You don't get what you pay for.

I am rating this game a zero because Blizzard had 10 years to create a sequel for one of their best selling game series and they have failed miserably. Had Blizzard just released Diablo II with improved graphics and a new plot, they would have received an 8 from me. Had they released Diablo II with the same graphics, same plot but one instance of a massive shared world for all players, they would have received a 10 from me. Instead, they spent 10 years removing some of the best features of the original DIablo series and adding some of the worst features from WoW. There is no longer any character customization, the entire plot is one linear-grind and the only thing that differentiates any given character from another is how much real-money a person spends buying mined equipment in the auction house. It's essentially a dumbed-down version of WoW except the only battle is between you, your right mouse button, and eternity. I spent 30 hours playing this game and I am still following one single path by myself, down a single plot, down a single class that I cannot customize. Farmville has more depth than this game. I'm sorry, Blizzard, you blew it. Next time, try retaining the best aspects of a game series and improve on the flaws. Save yourself the money and replay Diablo II. Expand

What is the point of buying a game if you can't even play it? I saved up for it, just to play by myself. I'm not a big multiplayer user, so I bought it for the singleplayer. Turns out, it doesn't matter. I can't play it without being online, which is horrible since I don't always have internet. Also: Error 37.

Everything that made Diablo 1 and 2 great are removed. You were actually building, customizing, and bonding with your character. But now with every skill available to everyone, your wizard is same as everyone else's. And can't choose attribute points either. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Storyline? Act 3 was exact copy of LOTR Two Towers.

Diablo 1 was the first game I stayed up all night for. There are only 2 other games that made me do that one being Diablo 2. Maybe because I'm 16 years older... or maybe because Blizzard is 16 years older and are not the same people developing games anymore... but this one just doesn't have that same addictive gameplay as the first two. Fact that I got off line to write this proves that. I don't miss it.

I'm a huge fan of Diablo II, and still play it today - it's the most atmospheric and playable game I've ever come across on PC. This is a pale imitation in every respect. The graphics are cartoony, and there's very little atmosphere at all. When you're playing a gothic medievel type game and all the items pop up in a perfect clean ariel typeface there's something very wrong. Far too much effort has gone into fancy graphics and far too little has gone into playability. It's a grind-fest geared solely towards the acquisition of loot at the expense of everything else. Blizzard have run with the theory that bigger is better, but when faced with an onslaught of thousands of items with an infinite array of properties the whole thing just becomes meaningless. And that's not even mentioning their despicable corporate attitude resulting in the ridiculous concept of single players being forced to play online at all times. This is a spectaculer fail, and a disappointing glimpse into the future of PC gaming.

If u played diablo 1, and diablo 2 and ur a diablo fan? dont think about playing this game because it will just make u angry.
it seems blizzard neglected all the good and unique features that made diablo II LoD one of the best games in history.
    1. No customize Skills + Artibbutes - this is really poor and ruine the game experience for me. blizzard aimed this game for 6 years old who dont need to think. u cant longer do customize and special chars (for exemple enchantress bear sorc on d2 :p).
    2. Party groups of only 4 ppl - really shame then instead of moving foward and making the game experience of interacting and playing with other people they move back to only 4 people partys.
    3. No game list like diablo 2- all the games are randomize and u cant enter a game for trading like on diablo 2.
    4. The trading experience is really bad now- u dont longer can have the great feeling of the trading in diablo 2 (trading low items junk for medium junk. medium junk into better items etc)- i remember i used to spend many nights by only trading junk to get better items.
    5. NO more world PVP feature - i wasnt a big fan of it but it was fun to duel people on world pvp, now u can only do WoW style pvp arena which is good but they neglected world pvp which was fun.
In conclusion, blizzard had 12 years to make the Diablo III and they wasted all this time of making a poor WoW 2. Diablo II is a game who stand the test of time and is still largly played by many people around the world this days, when diablo III in my opinion doesnt even stand the test of present time. its a truly sad day for diablo game series fans. take care.

The story is plain and dumb, no customization whatsoever, chosing one feat for your skill and call it customs? There is no more skill building, you just chose your arsenal and your gameplay won't be much more different than any other dude having your character.
As always the first playthrough can't be easier, the replayability is just doing the game again (which is short as well) and doesn't add much at all.

It is no longer a dungeon crawler, as expansive levels and have been replaced by one room caves, i'm not sure any of the maps ever even change since everything is pretty much in the same place.... The graphics are way less than acceptable... The real problem though is the leveling system you can't choose any skill points, spells or anything about your character other than their name, on top of that the cap is 60 and it takes no time to get there after the first difficulty your level thirty minimum.. Diablo 2 was a challenging game it took for ever to get to level 90 and above and that is what made it fun the game is about leveling and loot it doesn't work without both parts... turns out to be like thanks i'm level 60 now great that took 4ish days i guess i could start a new character but since it took so little time to get here is this even fun at this point. I really loved the idea of RMAH but once again what value do any items have if every eight-year-old and their mom can make it to the level cap without any effort, its certainly instant gratification for people who hate actually accomplishing things. Always-online DRM is terrible as it is, but it makes the game unplayable when the servers are down (which they have been alot). This is completely ridiculous - in no other consumer market would it be acceptable to pay $60 for a product that only works 25% of the time, for no ostensibly good reason (they could easily turn off the always-on DRM).

Not to mention, digital downloads don't work

The game itself is just a clone of Diablo II, no real changes other than a slightly improved skills system. Completely disappointing.

The characters are 2 dimensional and so hard to get behind it's laughable, so you almost wish it was a comedy. Oh and in terms of customization (the cornerstone of the RPG experience) forget about any deviation from what they decided your character will look like. And to top it all off, after paying $60 you can't even play it without getting kicked off every few minutes due to Blizzard mandating you stay online while you play. Why did they mandate this? So they could suck more money from you via the Auction house. Diablo 3 is gaming's Waterworld.

The game is great. But the constant connection drop, is a pain in the ***. I can't even play single player without connection issues, I keep dying cause lag just hangs my player, and when It comes back I'm surrounded by enemies.

Just want to highlight that I am aware of this problem and really tried to be constructive in my review and I don't just give a low score because of that. Ok, so to start - unfortunately Blizzard screwed one of their best Universes up, the story-line is weak as never before. The character development is bizarre, slow and, at the end, just getting boring. The quality of items/artifacts is low e.g. at the end you don't really get any differences between an ordinary stuff and a sword... So the gameplay is screwed as well. The graphic engine is weak and wow-like (which is horrible because Blizzard had 10 years to design a brand new engine, not just use the old wow's modified one! A good 2D would be better than a crap 3D). Well, finally, all this online based non-sense, which is plain awful and totally aimed on a maximum cow-conversion of customers (to milk them for money). I don't want to use internet when I play diablo! I just want to sit at my office/flat/cottage and play it at my laptop/desktop even if it won't have any internet connection! I am frequently outside the city and it's just hard to stay online ALL THE TIME. The only good thing I can say about the game is it's OST but I can just buy it separately, right? Thinking to ask for a refund. Highly disappointing and simply sad guys. I am sorry for loss of our dreams and try to concentrate on a good stuff and remember some Diablo 1/2 moments. Expand

    Cinematics? 0.

    Sound 6 out of 10
On both our machines (my wife is playing as well) we experienced unbalanced sound. Sometimes the voices are loud and clear and sometimes you cant hear what NPCs are saying. I also had to change the effects level down to 25 percent in order to hear a bit from everything. What you hear is average. The music mostly known from Diablo II and some tracks sound like theyre taken straight from WoW. Everything fits though so no big deal. Only negatives are the voice actors and recordings from the angels...they sound like speaking into a bucket. Not really speaking freely more like reading into a bucket.

    Gameplay 8 out of 10
This is simple. Once you found the class that suits you the game is pure fun. If you liked Diablo I & II you will like Diablo III as well. Theres 2 reasons for me though why it aint got a 10 out of 10.
When you level up for the first time you'll notice you dont get any points to spend. This kills a lot for me. In Diablo II for example I could create any character that I want. Just put some strength to your mage and he can weild a 2 handed axe. In Diablo III the axe is simply not available for your wizard and you cant spend any points. Want to create the ultimate dodging barbarian? Sorry but you cant. I dont see why this got removed. I find it kinda sad that theres a trend to games that everything is automatically done for you while spending points on your character is one main feature of a true role playing game. In Diablo III you cant do anything wrong but you cant do anything better either.
The second point is the online single player. Although youre playing alone you have to queue for a server slot? When you get one you might still experience lag as data is permanently sent and synchronized in the background. This is a no go in my opinion.

Normally this would lead to 7 out of 10 review but there are so many things wrong with the game at the moment.

-315300 possible errors that you can get.
-No free server slots (for your single player game!)
-No access to the game when battlenet is on maintenance.
-Auction house problems bugs and bad design.
-Bugged Achievements (everybody loves achievements :D)
-The well known non-existent customer support from Blizzard.
-Faulty CDs when you didnt buy it online.
-Faulty installers when you bought it online.
-No cow level...ok the Cow King is there but he takes you to Care-Bears LSD trip level where you slay rainbows and unicorns O_o'
-Real money auction house will end up in items only being available for real money. Who is responsible for droprates? Who earns money with every single sale? Blizzard! I guess this model will lead us into a new era of gaming models where you pay for virtual goods. And who tells us that Blizzard themselves wont put auctions on there for real money?

Overall its an unfinished product in my opinion and thus it gets 0 out of 10 from me. Dont get me wrong its an awesome game but the only power that we have (I doubt that Blizzard will care) is to let our frustration out in some way and if that means 0 points for a great game than thats your part you can do.
Lets see how long it takes them to finish the game but knowing Blizzard it will take loooong. Its a great game dont get me wrong but it needs to be finished fast.
If you buy a new car and it has as many faulty parts as this game you simply return it and ask for a new one. With software its different since you cant return it and Blizzard doesnt have a new one, all their versions are faulty ;)

It's ridiculous. Who in their right mind thought this was a great idea? Had I known it'd be like this, I would never have even entertained the idea of buying Diablo 3. But here I am, with a game just sitting on my desktop to serve no purpose other than to decorate it. As for the actual game itself, it feels so restrictive. in Diablo 2, if I happened to like 2 different skills, then I'd put points in both and that'd be the end of it. But in Diablo 3, if 2 skills are from the same branch, you can only pick one of them. Not only that, but that skill might not actually be as useful as another until you reach the level necessary to unlock the rune to boost up your skill. That to me is ridiculous, and really restricts the way I want to play my character. The classes aren't all that interesting, it feels like I've played those already. I really liked the classes of Diablo 2 they felt really different and had different purposes, but in Diablo 3 it seems like they just mixed a few elements of each classes, and the way you play D3's classes to me just feels all too similar with one another. The story itself isn't bad, nor is it the best. They did put some efforts into adding more to the world, but that's about it. Overall, I decided to give the game a 0. Why? Because I can't even play it. This is the first and last (Single-Player) game that I purchase with an always-on DRM. I bought a game to have fun, and I'm not. Expand

As for the game itself, when it is available... It is far too easy. Lack of skill tree does not hurt so much, but still I'd prefer to have more options to make my character unique. The story is simple and short, though it does contain quite a few treats for Diablo fans in form of dialogue references and diaries hidden here and there. Playing Diablo III together with my wife is fun, but I doubt I would like to play it solo - I think it would be far too boring. I don't get it why the critics give the game such a high score.

If you played the prequels D1 and D2, you'll notice that the skill system has been revamped. The skill trees are no longer there and you cannot distribute attribute points any longer (they are automatically selected when you level up). I don't really mind this. Blizzard decided to make the game more streamlined. You may like it more or less, but it's fine.
I found unacceptable the fact that this is a single-player game that forces you to have a constant internet connection ALL THE TIME. Some games require you an online authentication only you start them at the beginning of you gaming session. D3 requires a connection every single minute you are playing. Diablo 3 is NOT an MMO. It's a single player game (as much as D1 and D2) that also gives you the option to run a dungeon next to 3 other players. It's not a persistent world either.
However, in order to play not only you need to log-in, the game will also constantly send information back and forth with Blizzard server. The same way as an MMO, except that this happens in your single-player game. I have a very good gaming hardware and a good cable internet connection. However, I experienced connectivity lag in my single-player game many times. The character would start moving in slow motion while the latency increased.
I played many MMOs and I have always accepted the drawbacks that came with them. On the other hand, I enjoy the freedom that single-player games have. You can pause the game, play it wherever you want regardless of internet, go at your own pace, etc.
One very annoying thing is that the game will kick you out if you pause it for too long even in single player. This happened with my game many times. One time I was playing the game and my phone rang. I paused my single-player game and talked for 30 min or so. I afterwards made myself a coffee and came back around 45-55 mins later. Blizzard server kicked me out of my game and I had to explore all the area again. It turns out that just like an MMO I had to start thinking were to pause my single-player game if I suspected I was going to be away for more than 30 mins. This is unacceptable in a single-player game.

Okay, this should've been a Single Player Game. This is no MMO. You should've given us the choice to choose between off-/online. Now I have a game, which is no MMO, and I can't play it, because you MMO experts (WoW) can't handle your servers. This makes me regret the purchase so much. Truly sad.

The relation of developers is irresponsible. And apologies only occasion, to win little time on the correction of the errors. Diablo 2 Lord of Distaction was the game of decade. There is no sense of direction in diablo. Blues are as good as legendaries, bosses are as easy as elite packs, blacksmithing is useless, community is isolated, classes aren't balanced, elite packs are broken, auction house is a grind, graphics hurt my eyeballz, monster scaling is lazy. However with the launch of Diablo 3 I feel compelled. Having waited years for this to be released I was shocked when news circulated that it would be only playable online. I thought this was not true at first. Okay so now it is finally released and the relevant persons in the company spoke to the media stating various reasons it needs to be online play only. The main reason I gleamed was to make money via the auction house.

And after game release what are the results... Has game play been made safe for the gamers by the caring Blizzard team; can they buy and sell items in the auction house; are they immersed in this wonderful new world... Well as most of the genius and efforts seem to have been directed at how to make the maximal amount of money; not much intelligence seems to have to left over to figure out how to ensure the servers to take the load of HAVING TO LOG IN AND RUN THE GAME FOR EVERY SINGLE PLAYER WHO WANTS TO PLAY, HAVE A FUNCTIONAL AUCTION HOUSE, ETC. The players don't have to worry about all the bad things the online only play protects them from and all the wonderful benefits as most can't log in or can only log in and play for a few minutes at a time.

Well I am sure you all are very proud of what you have on display after years of efforts. Well done. I am sure that any twinge of embarrassment on the company part is overcome by profits from the people who put down their money for a game that they can't properly play. And for all those who have to pay for bandwidth used per month I am sure they have received the indirect message that Blizzard is only interested in customers of a certain socioeconomic background. That message was quite clear from the release of WOW. So while I will not having the benefit on enjoying the new diablo 3 I feel that time has come to stop all support for this company. I am sure that it will go unnoticed as enough people are so invested in the series that they will continue to support it just to see it to completion. I hope that one day the company is run by kinder sensible persons but that is just a dream. I quite enjoyed my offline single player games; I had no interest in going online or in purchasing items from anyone. I was content to play against the game and keep replaying to see what new items/quests I would get. Seems the times are changing and my simple tastes are no longer allowable. I hope a few other companies will keep catering to these simple tastes.

We can list them but we can say: many similar games share these traits. Lag spikes, disconnects, error 37... Ok, some online games stay this unstable for weeks long, Diablo III isn't all alone. Online only single player encourages account hacking but doesn't prevent item duplication? That is bad. And even worse with server side achievement and AH bugs. We can speak about stability issues, hacking incidents, AH bugs, item duplication and other things. We can point to the fact, there is no PVP because the game is half finished. We can see frequent hotfixes because of huge balance problems that shows how some abilities weren't tested at all. We see numerous smaller or bigger issues. We can see how Blizzard lied in russian key related scandals. But sadly when many people tell you, "it was easy to this point, but now I can't make a progress at all" and good drops just don't want to drop even after days... Then you have to say the game can offer you two things: Boredom because you see no challenge, or boredom because the game is too hard. Where is the fun part? Ok, "flow" (if you learned about psychology) and mindless farming can be "motivating" and "fun" for some. But the same people would have fun as factory workers as well.

Why the game can't even have short part where the difficulty is just right and you can enjoy it? Why everyone sees easy progress then hit a wall and see "no progress"? Because the balancing mechanism that help to set proper difficulty are just wrong, and small tweaks and adjustment can't fix it. The core game mechanism is flawed and it needs a total redesign. This with the well known issues is enough to rate this game as a 0/10.

The Money Shop is why you MUST play On-line for a SOLO game. You must always connect to the internet to play. No matter what. To cater to people that like to Pay to Win. Pay to Win. Blizz supports it and built the entire game around it. You don't do it, you will be left behind. Have fun with that if you can.

WoW's success and Starcraft and Diablo mean Blizz can do many things wrong for a few years and people will still eat it up. Just like Final Fantasy can do almost anything and get a hit, Blizz can produce mediocre content and get people to buy.

If you read the perfect score reviews, notice they say D3 is not as good as D2. They rate D3 a "10" but then call a game OVER 12 YEARS OLD AS BETTER! Really? But D3 is still a 10? Graphics are cartoony. You are Bugs Bunny battling the armies of Elmer Fudd. Welcome to Looney Tunes. Gone are the serious tones of Diablo. The graphics are also low quality. Animations are jumpy (not smooth) making it look like a beta still. Your character has no customization. Is this a 2012 game or 1999? People are blaming "kids" for the poor reviews. Kids didn't play D2. D3 is the first experience they'd have, so if they were kids, it would be positive remarks. People next blame fans of D2 for the hate of D3. D2 is old, and no one wants to play that anymore. They want better. Instead, they get a game aimed at children. If people are hating D3 for not being superior to D2, something is very wrong with the game.

The game is short. Very short. Beyond short. And easy. I could go on and on about why it is just sup-par Pay to Win crap. But I'll leave it at this: Wait until the game has been out for 2-3 years and is patched up, then buy it for $10-15. It is NOT worth the over-priced buggy junk that it is now.
