First off, I just want to clarify that this review is not a complaint over the connection issues/first day launch problems. So many "critics" want to wash the consumers complaints with, "Give them a break," or "This is expected during launch." They fail to acknowledge what is actually written within the thousands, yes I said thousands of negative reviews. To put it simply and clearly this game is GARBAGE. Why? The intense feeling of gloom and doom that one once had when playing Diablo 2 is completely gone in Diablo 3, the graphics are MUCH to bright and cartoonish. When playing you can never become attached to the game simply because of the graphics engine in which they chose to use with diablo 3 (world of warcraft graphics engine). The voice acting for some of the characters, such as the male wizard; is absolutely TERRIBLE. A homeless man could have done a better job on acting the scripted dialogue and dont let that one famous voice voice actor from avatar fool you into believing the rest of the voice actors in Diablo 3 are going to be exceptionally amazing. The story line is a major disappointment, so not to spoil it I will not explain further but to put it simply, I could have created a better story line. Next up, the skill tree. The skill tree is so auto pilot that a 5 year old kid could play through normal without suffering any consequences of the skills in which they can choose from. Did I say choose? I meant given to them. Also, there is no potion bar in which you strategically heal yourself, so the more this 5 year old child kills things the faster he can heal himself and progress through the rest of the game mindlessly clicking away. The little socialization features Diablo 2 aloud are completely gone and instead is on the xbox live format of socialization, which is auto assigning games with random people. Pointless to play hardcore because of this, also impossible to play hardcore, they included it but do not allow quick exits anymore. Ya you read right, 10 second delay on logging out of a game which means if blizzards sites lag (which they do 24/7) you cant just quickly exit to save your butt. Blizzard only added hardcore mode to the game to bring back that crowd thinking it would be the same but instead is only a gimmick. Do not waist your money, I would advise it because you will regret it. This game is much like the star wars the old republic hype, blizzard is only riding on the name to sell copies. Keep in mind Diablo 1 and 2 where created by blizzard north NOT Blizzard, so the developers are completely talent less and under a corporate mind set in which is the newly formed Blizzard. Watch out folks, games like star craft, world of warcraft, diablo are just never going to be the same. Expand

The inability to play offline, repetitive gameplay, predictable plot and sub-par graphics not to mention numerous bugs and connection issues have led me to give this game a 0/10 simply as a way to show my frustration.

The inability of servers to handle load on launch day or any other day is not the issue. Constant all-time online-DRM is just not right and no amount of justification, excuses, amazing gameplay or graphics (not necessarily in this game) can set that right.

I found D3 a great disappointment. The need of a permanent internet connection to play a single player game is absurd. I think they could find a way (offline for single player and online if u want to play with others ppl). In my opinion from this point of view Valve is way above Blizzardâ

I don't play games online. My location doesn't allow high speed internet and so I avoid buying games or systems (read Xbox 360) that focus heavily on the online experience. I'm giving my game to the first homeless person I find. Why would I give this to someone that has absolutely no use for the game, and will never be able to play it? I can't even use the product I purchased because of the Always-online DRM that Blizzard programmed by making a battle.net connection REQUIRED for single player. Bravo, after years of "polishing" I can not play because of your greed. The servers are so overwhelmed I can not log into the single player game. Total BS.

I even created a partition with only Diablo 3 and the necessary drivers on it while troubleshooting. I have ZERO problems with all other online games and services. Despite this, I struggled through it and played only in brief increments. I amassed some gold and shoddy items only to have my account get hacked today. My guess is that their server was hacked by a typical SQL Injection method, and now my password compromised. I know many other are reporting being hacked recently too.

I waited a week to review the game giving Blizzard a grace period to fix the game. Instead a week later, all my incremental progress is undone by some hacker who probably used SQL injection on their database to get everyone's password. End score is a 0, and this is coming from a Diablo fanboy who loved the beta. You can't score something that doesn't work out of the box.

The game is OK despite the low-fi graphic and lack of old school Diablo atmosphere but the issue for me is that I get booted before I finish a quest. Thus I need to repeat it, all the while collecting experience points making be an all mighty Barbarian who is way too powerful for the area I'm still stuck in. This may sound good but it's not. The enemies are sooo weak in comparison now that I sit there chopping away like they are on a conveyor belt and I'm a factory production line worker. It went from a dungeon crawler, like 1 and 2, to a game that is painfully linear. Blizzard has taken a game that you could play without using the internet and placed it on overloaded servers that they do not provide support for. The lag from the aforementioned servers makes the game virtually unplayable at certain times, significantly decreasing the enjoyment of the player. The dynamics of the game itself have not changed despite the progressions in graphics capabilities and platforms. Blizzard chose to utilize a platform that both Mac and PC can use despite the fact that Direct X is significantly more common among PC gamers (no true gamer owns a Mac... they're garbage). This platform causes PC users' graphics cards to reach temperatures that not even BF3 induces. Now for the game itself, you cannot use your own keybinds, such as WSAD for movement, you're limited to four slots for abilities, not to mention the fact that there are numerous bugs within the game itself that limit performance. Diablo 3 was turned into a pure RNG game that has gear so poorly itemized throughout the entire game that it displays only the utmost disparaging incompetency in the designers. This game was far too simplistic, the characters never stop talking, the creatures and abilities are all from World of Warcraft (even with similar names to boot), this game lacks originality in every single form. They even had the audacity to reuse the Diablo 2 soundtrack for Diablo 3. I searched tirelessly for any small sign of originality or enjoyment in any aspect of this game. To my dismay, there was not a single one.
For the fanboys out there (most of which who were born long after Diablo 2 was released), Blizzard is making this game pay-to-win. That's right! Pay-to-win! So you can use your parents credit cards and buy gear from the auction house! Rumor has it, these items will not be poorly itemized, and you get that extra special feeling when you show your friends how awesome those pixels are that you payed real money for!

At a very high price (60$) for PC standards, this game ends with the player's freedom. At launch, we met tons of server problems and many players couldn't play at day 1. Even after that, some days servers are still down for "maintenance" and you cannot play the game that you bought legitlly. Not happy with that, Blizzard probably will launch lots of DLC and the total cost of this game may surpass 100$ easily. And the worst thing: the real money auction house. For each transaction, they win a % of the money. With that simple principe, they could win money over the years without any need to do another game or do anything at all. And the worst scenario: some day, they'll close the servers and we'll be unable to play anymore because of the DRM system. With all this facts, Blizzard is calling me stupid, and I'm saying "Yes, I am" just for giving them their 60$. But not anymore, this has to end. Companies like EA, Activision and now Blizzard think they can do whatever they want, that they can steal their users, that money is the only thing that matters. That's way this game deserves a 0. In a normal scenario, proabably I could give it a 7 (because of the step back from Diablo 2 in some ways), but not as it is right now. And remember, my 0 could be unreal, but is just as unreal as all those 10's (no game is perfect).

The connection issues make it unplayable. In 2012 this just shouldnt be an issue and is a direct reflection of the poor planning and lack of respect for the gaming community by Blizzard.

This online only DRM **** has got to go in games. Blizzard integrated an online only feature to prevent hacking/piracy, yet the tables have turned on them - there is currently an exploit allowing people who have done nothing but play the game to have their session ids captured and then their accounts hacked. It doesn't require a trojan horse, it doesn't matter if you have an authenticator - it is a security hole that they overlooked. Even people who do not play in public games can be targeted by this exploit. It is absurd. Blizzard has shifted the entire burden of their problems to the user. Admittedly, they have to fix the exploit, but it is now the user who has to suffer for it because s/he cannot log in without having his/her account jeopardized. In terms of gameplay, I find the game pretty fun. A lot of the abilities (e.g. the Demon Hunter's) are WoW copies, but what makes it fun is switching out your abilities to prepare for certain styles of fights. The graphics, while not astounding, are pretty good. The storyline, while somewhat cheesy and predictable, is also entertaining. My only complaint about the gameplay is that Diablo 3 has always been a game that i've played with friends, so limiting party size to 4 is pretty weak.

The ultimate problem that I have with Diablo 3 is not the content of the game itself, but with how Blizzard has forced the user to comply with a lot of bs to play the game. Requiring online only play (even for single player), integrating a "real money auction house", removing lan play, and demonstrating inadequacy in terms of preparedness for launch and security measures are real concerns that the company has yet to honestly address. Instead of looking to their audience for feedback like other up and coming game companies, Blizzard has been banking on their reputation and abusing the end user, ultimately just seeing him or her as one of the many millions of suckers to have tolerated their ****. For the record, I'm one of them for now.

Every single facet of the game has been as letdown. None of the features lived up to the expectations. Auction house is a complete joke. Diablo III is a failure in so many aspects that it'd be impossible to put just in a few words why it's so bad and dissapointing. They had the time, they had de money and resources, they had experience in the gaming world and they also knew what their customers were expecting. Taking all that in consideration, I guess D3 is the biggest Fail in gaming history. To sum up, it has no soul.

Horribly over-hyped. First run was fun, but after reaching mid nightmare it was all the same. There is 0 replay value in d3, absolutely no end game content. Horrible decision to make it online-only DRM with no offline single player. Servers are always down or shutting down. Game was pushed out the door 60% complete and will forever be remembered as Blizzards downfall.

Sure Diablo 3 can be fun to play and is not so bad technically wise, but it is the way Activision / new Blizzard is treating the fans that is totally unacceptable, especially for that price.
And it's very simple, if enough people rate the product down and don't buy it, you'll wonder how fast the publishers suddenly will make great games again. Or maybe Blizzard / Activision will go down and vanish? So let it be, a company that gives a **** about their customers and the fans should not be so big anyway. New, smaller publishers and indiegames will raise and have already: See Runic Games with Torchlight 2, lot's of the old Diablo developers are in their team now and it has everything Diablo3 is missing and much more. It just doesn't have the giant budget to make it such a hype title.
With every copy of Diablo 3 (or other games with same problems) that is sold, we just tell the publishers their behaviour is the right one and to go on with it, even to make it worse next time. Blizzard is long dead already. R.I.P. Blizzard, R.I.P. Diablo.

The game was exciting although repetative up until inferno (last difficulty). In order to get past where i'm at i need millions of gold because of the broken economy in Auction House. In order for me to get that gold i either have to grind for one hour per 100 thousand gold or i can just buy from the "real money auction house" for 1 dollar per 100k gold. So basically grinding becomes extremely boring and repetative and makes you almost forced to pay real money to continue. If not, you're literally grinding for 1 dollar an hour. In order to get the gear i need to finish with second act of inferno I need min 15 million gold which means i either grind 120 to 160 hours the same damn part of the game or pay out of pocket 150 dollars. Than it gets worse in act 3 and 4. This game is cheap in the fact the content is so short only made harder several times over (they did that in diablo 2 which was fine cuz of limited space on CDs , now its just an excuse of being lazy in order to not make further game content). The art is pretty, but the graphics are terrible at least a good 10 years out of date.

You might ask yourself why they feel the need to take out talent trees and put in this panda style skill system, and the answer is that they felt like it would be easier to balance... The word "Balance" has ruined this game, they were actually so lazy when making this game that they didnt feel like dealing with any other variables than necessary so they went ahead and made it to what skills you picked had little to no impact on how you play. This alone is a reason for me to say that this game has no replay value whatsoever, and it has even less satisfaction from beating it, the best feeling I got from beating Diablo 2 was to see my weak starting character transform into a heroic Juggernaut through the particular stacking of skills, I remember that I stacked so many points on my druid that I could constantly have 10 or so summoned wolfs helping me at once, this game lacks all of that original diversification therefore making it the retarded offspring of what was Diablo. Nobody at Blizzard played through Diablo 3 or they all suck at RPGs. Jay Wilson (lead designer) claimed it would take at least a month to finish the game. People finished it on the hardest setting in less than 3 days. Their lack of RPG knowledge is reflected in the gameplay. The rampant bugs and server issues speak for themselves.

The character levels on its own, and you are given six slots to choose which skills to use, and which runes to attach to the powers to alter the skill. Skills are doled out as you level in a pre-planned fashion. That's it for customization. It's a simple system, and if you like that sort of thing, you'll love this game. I know some people love the "streamlined" system and thinks it's an improvement, and I'm glad those people can enjoy this game. I didn't, however, and I couldn't feel connected to my character as a result of having no input on how it leveled. That issue, coupled with the internet DRM, is why I give the game a terrible score, and why I won't be purchasing it. The combat plays like Diablo, and the music is Diablo, but that's where the similarities end for me. Do yourself a favor and play the trial before buying this, to make sure its the kind of game you want. I was expecting something completely different. Otherwise, I suggest pre-ordering Torchlight 2, as you'll get Torchlight 1 for free to scratch your Diablo itch while you wait for T2 to come out this summer. Consequently, Torchlight 1, a game with a far lower budget released in 2009, has held my attention just as long as Diablo 3, and I'm still enjoying it. I think that says something about Diablo 3 and it's level of quality, at least as far as players who were expecting the ability to customize their character in a similar way to the previous two installments of Diablo. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Good:

Graphics are fair enough, nothing groundbreaking, but not what I would describe as bad.

New skill system is fairly innovative and interesting.

    The Bad:

Always-on DRM. Can't play this game without Blizz's servers up and a broadband internet connection.

The storyline is indescribably bad. Diablo walks into heaven and single handedly destroys it, and mounds and mounds of angels because evidently God doesn't care too terribly about his home being wrecked. And then Diablo then dies to a group of up to 4 nephelim (nephelim being somebody who has human and angelic parents), so: Angels > humans, Diablo > Angels, One Half Human-One Half Angel > Diablo. Makes perfect sense.

    The controls, while being very similar to Diablo 2 are not at all optimized for the new skill system and there are no options for click-for-everything. As a result, especially for ranged classes, controls can feel clunky, especially in combination with the horrendous lag. Which brings me to my next point;

The lag is terrible thanks to the fact that 90% of the game is done through server-side processing. The game client installed locally on the user's computer does little more than contain the graphical assets and display them for the user. Movements, abilities, monsters, and all other operations performed in the game are processed by the server and as a result, have never seen a ping below 250ms. According to Blizzard this is A-OK (the latency bar stays green until you hit 300ms, at which point it will turn yellow). So at minimum, anything you do takes 1 quarter second before it ever actually happens. This leads to dying many times to monsters you thought you had plenty of distance away from.

Sadly, the boss battles are all boring. The only one that was of any interest to me was Belial. Diablo was pathetically easy. Just left click on him and hold down. That's about all there is to it.

Sad thing was, that even with the new skill system that few of the skills are ever really required, most of the time you can just left click your way to victory which really made the game feel very bland.

All in all, I bought Diablo 3 with low expectations since Blizzard hasn't been known as of late to produce quality material, yet sadly even my low expectations were let down. Diablo 3 is not worth $60 in even the most remote respect.

Please show some solidarity with people who, like me, sometimes play their games on the go or want to play together with friends who don't have internet connection. If we don't protest now SOON ALL DEVELOPERS WILL FOLLOW BLIZZARD. And don't stop there don't buy any Blizzard products until they change their policy and tell all your friends to do the same or really soon you'll find that you won't be able to play any single player game without internet connection. I am not even going to discuss other concerns such as the fact that you don't really buy the game you kind of rent it from Blizzard, or the fact that there won't be any mods, or the lag, or the theft of the accounts, or the server issues, but I have to say a few words on the auction house. BLIZZARD SUPPORTS MODERN DAY SLAVERY by legalizing the trade of virtual goods. Just do a Google search and you'll find information on forced labor camps in China and other not fully democratic countries where prisoners are forced to play the game to support the regime or for the financial benefit of the prison guards. Don't be ignorant about this issue, there's no excuse, educate yourself, and search your conscience to determine whether you'd like to play with people who are forced by oppressive regimes to farm gold in the game you play simply for fun. IT'S UP TO US WHETHER WE LET GAME DEVELOPERS DISRESPECT OUR RIGHTS AND THE RIGHTS OF OUR FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS.
EDIT: 1st time I reviewed something on metacritic and I gave it 10 instead of 0, sorry if it was misleading to anyone.

I'll start by saying the art is actually pretty nice.
That being said, the music is absent or entirely forgettable.
The "diverse" skill system actually just locks you into one-two viable builds once you hit inferno. The bosses are kind of an afterthought and designed to be easier than champion packs when they aren't just a walkover even at higher difficulties (magda lol) But the best thing

But the best thing about this game where you hunt for cool items is they screwed up their itemization so bad, that there are actually no really cool items to look forward to, just an endless stream of flavorless blues and rares with inflated main stat. Don't look here for the fun item affixes like procs that would trigger spells or transformations, because in D3, NO FUN IS ALLOWED.
Oh, and also you can tell from enough hours of play that they've really amped the scarcity on uniques/sets because hey it'll drive people to buy and sell on RMAH. If you don't intend to spend more money than the $60 full price you just dumped into it, there's a whole bunch of stuff you're not likely to ever see. Awesome!
Honestly, this is a terrible package and once you hit max level and get a good grip on how the game systems work, you'll understand it doesn't even begin to have the replayability factor you would expect from the Diablo series. Do yourself a favor and go play something else, you can't say I didn't warn you.

The list goes on and on. After hours of giving the game a chance to impress me and moving all the way to Act 3, I was absolutely disgusted how boring, childish, and overall fake everything came out to be. The atmosphere of the game isn't dark enough and I don't feel like I have any control over the outcome of the character. This game does not deserve the word Diablo in its title!! The only reason diablo 3 sold so many copies is the success of diablo and diablo 2. If you're a casual gamer that wants to spend 10-15 hours on a hack and slash game, I'd rate this game 7/10, if you're a diablo fan and expect to play a diablo game, I'd rate it 0/10.

When you buy a diablo game, you expect a certain type of gameplay, atmosphere and graphics, diablo 3 doesn't deliver any of that. There's diablo clones that are more like the original diablo games than diablo 3, that's just unacceptable. The graphics style is cartoonish, and the general atmosphere of the game is nothing like the gothic, diabolic and hellish atmosphere of the previous games. The graphics are bad for a 2012 game, but thats not very important, the style is'nt unique or memorable, its like the WoW designers were working on diablo 3. The story is unacceptably short for a 2012 game. Character customization was very important in previous games, however, in diablo 3 it's virtually non existent. This game isn't a hardcore rogue-action hack and slash PC RPG, it feels like a bad port of some console hack and slash game like Dark Alliance. I would rate this game higher if blizzard didn't try to earn money by abusing the diablo franchise, they should have given the game a different name. This is an obvious attempt to earn more money by making the game extremely simple, and thus accessible to casual gamers, but simple boring games like diablo 3 die fast. I can't imagine people that would be willing to play diablo 3 in 10 years, as is the case with diablo 2, in fact, I can't imagine why people would want to play this game more than a few days at most. I've been playing diablo 2 on LAN with my friends since its release, of course there were breaks when I didn't play it for a year or two, but so far none of my friends (including myself) have enjoyed diablo 3.

But why make a user playing in single-player mode suffer through server downtimes and non-playability when they have don't have internet or your ISP has problems. When I buy a game I expect to own it. But in today's game business thinking, you're paying for the privilege to play when the owner allows it. If the owner goes away, is hacked, or has technical problems, then you're SOL on playing this game. After reading other's reviews, some are saying we shouldn't judge a game based on its DRM. Reviews like those make me think they're being written by the game's developers or publishers. To those folks I say you're ridiculous. When a ridiculous DRM prevents you from playing an expensive game, then it should indeed be considered when reviewing it.

As for me, I'll continue playing since I bought the game and want some amount of enjoyment from it. But I'll also look for a cracked EXE or similar thing that shuts off the DRM so I can play without a net connection. It's my right to have the ability to play the game when I want - with or without a net connection.

The list could go on, and on, and on. Diablo 3 is basically a bad joke created by Blizzard to the Diablo audience. To call it WoW free2play is not an exaggeration. That is literally what it feels like. Nothing in this game was designed with the end user in game, save to allow it to be "playable" (not likable) by as many players as possible and to extract as much cash from them as possible via the "Real Money Auction House", which by the way has been indefinitely delayed because the playerbase is tanking so hard right now that they realize they need to focus everything to save it. They're trying, but they will be unsuccessful. Blizzard has been _permanently cripppled_ by its long stint/focus on WoW. They _actually believe_ these things are actually fun, otherwise the game would not have been released with such horrible flaws. If they cannot see the problems, they cannot fix them. I have asked for a refund because I am actually offended at how bad this game is, and I encourage anyone who bought it to do the same.

I was willing to see past the tired, rehashed look of Starcraft II - hey, the cut scenes are great, and there's a lot of interactive toys to play with between the missions that look like they were pulled almost directly from the original Starcraft. But I just can't find anything in Diablo III that would make it worth the 10-year wait, let alone the $60 price tag.

So, what's so wrong with Diablo III? Well, pretty much everything:

    * The graphics are pretty bad; even the "high quality" textures look like something from the original Diablo, the skew perspective means your character is pretty much guaranteed to be hidden from you at least part of the time (as are enemies and loot), and the gamma correction gives you a choice between "too dark to see anything" and "too dark to be playable with a light on in the room".

    * Gameplay is repetitive and dull. It's a clickfest, pure and simple. Click here, click there, kill an enemy, pick up some loot. Lather - rinse - repeat. Oh look! A new level... that's pretty much the same as the level you just finished...

    * Difficulty leveling is so badly broken it would be funny, if it weren't so tragic. After a long boring slog through hordes of enemies who couldn't harm you if you were to lie down and take a nap, you get to uberboss, who coughs and you fall over dead.

    * I can't tell if the soundtrack composer came from a background of 1970's horror flicks, and wanted to try composing for porn, or if they came from 1970's porn flicks, and wanted to compose for horror movies.

    * It's a client-server game, but Blizzard is only shipping the client. So, in addition to crappy graphics, crappy gameplay, and crappy music, you also get crappy lag, crappy disconnects, and truly crappy uptime stats. And forget playing unless you have a low-latency broadband connection. Even with a cable modem, you can expect stutters and random teleports.

    * It's a network-only game with no true single player mode, but Blizzard didn't include voice chat. Dubya tee ef?

Suffice it to say, this will be the last $60 Blizzard ever gets from me.

    Things they did wrong
    -----------------------------------
    1. DRM (you are required to be online 24/7 to play, even single player)

    2. Removed any customization with the skill tree AND Attribute tree (You are literally the same character as the millions others that play)

    3. The difficulty is a ****ing joke. A trained monkey could easily beat this game with ANY character.

    4. The auction house removes any desire/need to actually loot for awesome gear. (Acti-Blizz just milking it for more money after everyone realizes the games ****.)

    5. No more awesome 8 player nameable lobbies with PvP. (PvP has been scheduled to be released later on in a WoW like arena (****ing gay))

    6. The color scheme is ****ing ****ty as are the graphics for a game 12 YEARS in Development!!!!!!!!!!!

    7. The servers are a ****ing joke. I lag all the ****ing time on a rad ass connection so I know it's not me.

    8. The story itself is ****ing retarded. Lame cliches everywhere coupled with horrible voice acting leaves me vastly disappointed with, what was supposed, to be a game you could play solid and still enjoy for at least a month.

In summary, they have taken out the heart and soul of Diablo and replaced it with a Children's game. Don't indulge Activision or Blizz anymore...... I am personally boycotting these terrible game devs from now on. I encourage everyone who enjoyed Diablo 1 and 2 (Or good games) to do the same

Im only giving it a 0 because it fails in every possible way to live up to D2 and the hype. Nobody really takes metacritic seriously, but I hope their stockholders do.

Say goodbye to chat channels, switching acts, boss runs, builds, customization as a whole, any sort of story, tyrael as you know him, fun/interesting items Say hello to WoW itemization(revolves around dps and stats only),

Say hello to WoW itemization(revolves around dps and stats only), exploits/hacks/errors,real money auctionhouse, broken inferno mode(hf kiting), every class plays the same(no builds, people just use the same skills), no stat points, tyrael as a character gets ruined, story had the most obvious plot since Avatar

    100+hours played, 100+hours of regret

In all honesty I hate all the critic's reviews, either didn't play past normal or are goddamn liars

As much as I like some of the features of this game, the "always on" internet connection is an instant 0 rating. This is unacceptable. Mind you, I do have a cable, so for me it's less of a problem (although overloaded servers are still a pain), but conceptually the idea just sucks. Single player should NOT be always-online.

Diablo3 it's a huge disappointment. I waited this game for so long and at the end Blizzard come up with a kids story (falling star rise of zombies, yes some original good stuff). The first minutes very something laughable, especially when I saw all this people with the headache in the tavern... ahaha :D
Organization of Gameplay is horrible, I still don't get how to fire a real arc arrow

Organization of Gameplay is horrible, I still don't get how to fire a real arc arrow with the mage... can't set the attribute points (WHY?? WHYYY??) can't zoom, and can't personalize my character. I still wonder if Blizzard can make some good use of 3d technology in 2012.
They ruined this game with cartoon like characters, bad music, recycling stupid ideas (and 3d stuff) from WoW and removed perks that most of the old players loved. I just expressed my review on the game and I don't want even talk about this bloody feature about being always on. Bad. Bad. BAD!

The conclusion? I had the honor of testing torchlight 2 beta and is way more fun and similar to the original diablo verve.

    Sad face. :(

That's really the only way to sum this up. Save yourself 40 dollars and get Torchlight II instead. Or get 3 copies of Torchlight II instead of buying this. Why would you even pay $60 for a game anyway? All the games I have hundreds and hundreds of hours logged on (besides the 1 mmo I ever seriously played) cost me $20 or under and are much higher quality and better

(Call of Duty's modern warfare series comes to mind as the most recent example of this.)

Diablo 3 would be an okay game if it had cost half the price or you are a very casual player.

I've put about 40 hours into the game and made it to act 2 inferno (the last difficulty). The entire game is built around making money for Blizzard from the Auction House (AH). The good items are impossible to come by (hence keeping their value high in the AH). To be able to play inferno you

It is nothing near as good as Diablo 2 and you should not waste your time on it.

The game is pretty terrible on some things and there is no excuse for that; you developed it for 10+ **** years. I believe that that time was enough to deal with the bugs and the cartoon graphics. And as if that wasn't enough, you put the DRM in too? WTF where you guys thinking? I would expect that from EA, Activision and from Ubisoft, but from you too? No, i didn't. The problem with critical reviews of this game is that critics are expected to churn out judgement based on sitting down and playing the game for a few hours (or a few days at the most) before they need to write an article about it. This is accurate of how Diablo 3 is. Play it for a few hours or a few days and you'll tend to say "best game ever." Play it longer than that though and the impression (very, very) quickly fades. I am giving this game a 1-rating despite being a (former) Blizzard fan not only because the game requires you to always be online with servers that are very unreliable - these things can be fixed given time. The reason I am giving this game a 1-rating are because: 1) the game is too short, 2) it assumes you'll have to play the game over and over and over (ad infinitum) just to progress to the higher difficulty levels. It requires you to either grind for gear or scour the AH and in this regard, it loses what made the Diablo franchise fun. It was FUN to kill monsters. It's NOT FUN getting 1-shotted in Inferno difficulty because, despite grinding hours for gear, the RNG gods have not yet given you enough gear to be able to handle this level of difficulty. In this regard, Diablo 3 becomes a game not of skill, but of luck. There's no aspect of strategy here. To be able to survive Inferno, you need to have a very specific build with a very specific (and very hard to find or very expensive) gear.

This is not the game for you if you just want to sit back after a long tiring day at work and kill stuff and be happy about it. This is a game for people who either play games for a living, or have enough money in their Daddy's trust fund that they can afford never to work a day in their life and can spend all of it playing this game.

    Too easy, too primitive!

A small number of acts, a permanent Internet connection, a primitive script, silly quests, a primitive character development ...

    The worst project from Blizzard!

Diablo 3 took everything that made Diablo 2 fun and just threw it away. This is a game for casual scrubs. Terrible game, don't buy it. Blizzard used to be the best game developers in the world, it is sad to see how low they have sunk. Oh and by the way, enjoy always having to be online to play when Blizzard's been to cheap to buy decent servers (have fun playing with 150 ms at all times!).

Blizzards requirement to have us always be online is detrimental to the gaming experience as a whole offered up by Diablo 3. Previous Diablo games could be enjoyed solo or with others online and I think that it's reasonable to assume that the third game in the franchise would hold up to that basic tenet of the series.

That is simply not the case.
Multiplayer is fine, I expect outages, I expect connection issues from time to time. This is not an MMO however and the game is designed to be able to be played solo as well, but it is here that the connection issues are not welcome. Lag in any other single player game would be considered a bug so it is is not justifiable in any way here.

Blizzards decision to protect the RMAH at the expense of our gaming experience is reprehensible.

Diablo 3 might be the best game that no one should play.

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
