Diablo 2 had the main chat lobby where you could see other players and their gear, as well as interact with them in a multi channel chat interface. Diablo 3 has one pathetic "general chat" which is plagued by an ungodly amount of gold farmers spamming relentlessly. One will find themselves forced to leave the channel instantly. The item database is garbage. Blue "magic" items are generally the best in the game and "legendaries" are a complete joke. One will often find class specific items full of worthless attributes (e.g. intelligence on a "mighty" 2handed barbarian only club). Terrible. I think the auction house is the worst feature this lackluster game has to offer. It literally gives no incentive to playing the game at all. Lets say you get to a boss in act 3 and it's too difficult to beat with your current gear (i.e. gear check fights which are also lame). Instead of going back through the act and farming lower level content to gear up, the auction house is right there to solve your problems in a few clicks. Seriously, whats the point to trying to farm decent gear when you can just buy it for a few thousand gold and then steamroll the boss you were stuck on. I could go on but I find myself filling up with rage. I can't believe I waited years for this garbage to come out. The game is in beta mode at best. What has happened to the gaming industry? Remember when games had to stand on their own two feet and were sold as is? Those were the best. Now were stuck with mainstream casual friendly mega corporations with the "we'll patch it later" mentality. So sad. RIP Blizzard North. Expand

The worst purchase in years. Technical problems and poor support. But once you get through that, the game is an utter bore. I stuck with it too to find out if it got better. It has to - its Diablo! It doesn't.

One giant pile of garbage. They pretty much destroyed the Diablo Lore and did nothing but create a boring game based on making from the auction house for Blizzard. Possibly the dumbest and biggest failure in video game history. Avoid this game like the plague.

The classes are vastly unbalanced, which explains why PvP still isn't part of the game. Playing a ranged character means dodging a couple dangerous elite combos in Inferno, playing melee means crying your heart out consistently. Comparing the experiences of Monks and Demon Hunters in Inferno, for example, is illustrative of the degree of imbalance in the game. Which leads to the biggest problem with this game: Inferno hero packs. In D2 they were randomly generated, which was lazy and sloppy. In D3 they are still randomly generated, and Inferno difficulty has absolutely no new mechanics, just a cliff-face scaling of mob damage and resistance. It's incredibly, mind-numbingly, almost unbelievably lazy. It results in a game where the final boss in Inferno is a cakewalk compared to the elite group with insane combinations that can spawn anywhere in the whole of the Act.

Oh and the number of hacks already out there, a month after the game was released, is a joke. Stupefyingly lazy, EA-style cashing in on an established brand.

***a copy paste of a great review on diablo forums - not mine and not full because the 5000 characters a reached***
    * Extremely dumbed down from D2, with insulting amounts of hand-holding present everywhere. This ranges from autostats, all skills enabled, no skill levels, freespecing, restricted skill choices without elective mode enabled, simple skill tooltips, removal of almost all combat mechanic affixes, no weapon swap, 4 socketables vs the hundreds of D2, generic/boring legendaries, etc.

    * Lack of social support - poorly implemented chat channels, automatched game joining only, ghost town effect (similar to SC2's major problem with Bnet 2.0), 4 player limit = even less socializing.

    * Cheesy B-movie story-telling, cliche one-dimensional characters, corny voice-acting, non-sensical/comical actions by villains, predictable twists and plotline.

    * Lack of diverse character types within and among classes - no more physical/caster/hybrid - all character types now rely on weapon damage like physical characters in D2. This destroys a huge amount of itemization/gearing choices, as there's no longer a deviation between decentralized gear (caster) vs centralized gear (physical) vs a build that needs to balance the two (hybrid). In D3, there are no more physical barbs (frenzy/ww), caster barbs (singer), or hybrid barbs (BvC), there are only barbs that all base their gear on weapon damage (physical).

    * DRM online only - no offline single player, no lan support. Laggy servers, and all the same issues of botting, duping, spamming, and trade exploits present in a game that's over a decade old. * Crappy UI that's designed by a console developer - convoluted to navigate, clunky, and inefficient at utilizing screen space.

    * Approx FOUR times less legendaries (uniques/runewords) in the game than D2:
    * 9 chest pieces vs 37 uniques + 14 runewords
    * 18 swords vs 35 uniques + 26 runewords
    * 6 shields vs 22 uniques + 8 runewords
    * 7 helms vs 23 uniques + 5 runewords
    * 7 bows vs 19 uniques + 16 runewords
It's actually more like 20x less if you consider that all but 1-2 legendaries per category are completely worthless - low/mid-level legendaries are unusable due to a general lack of utility mechanics present in the game, and no way to upgrade the base item to the next type (which would increase base damage or defense).

    * 4 gems vs 7 gems + 8 unique jewels + 33 runes + a NEAR LIMITLESS variety of magic/rare jewels.

    * Legendaries are generic, boring, and don't have the flavor that D2 uniques/runewords did. Legendaries hardly seem to have themes or any effort done to them anymore, and most are just cookie-cutter molds that have been pasted onto every Legendary item type. Randomization of 1-3 entire affixes also makes the item much less iconic or powerful than before.

    * The removal of attack rating (accuracy), faster hit recover, and faster block rate equates to a severe loss of having to balance such stats on gear, and represents yet another dumbing down of the decisions you make in the game.

    * Much weaker bonuses on items in general aside from pure stats - less attack speed, less damage reduction, less run/walk speed = items feeling much less powerful than before and gear choices becoming much less meaningful or strategic. Set items also have extremely weak, almost laughable bonuses.

    * Inferno mode is broken. It's not more difficult, it's just cheap. 1/2-shots everywhere, melee is severely handicapped. A number of retarded monster affixes that should never have been put in. Most builds except for a select few aren't even viable. There's no semblance of strategy, just having the best gear possible and dumb luck in not hitting the wrong champions. Since when did Diablo change from a game where you mow down monsters and feel like a god, to one where you repeatedly get cheap-shotted over and over again in a boring grind?

    * Lack of character uniqueness/identity/ownership - all builds are freely changeable, many builds in the late game are similar or identical - no character permanence + lack of customizability = lack of character attachment.

    * Lack of in-depth customization - skills only have 1 level each so it's impossible to specialize in certain skills to the extent you could before. You can't specialize in builds that aren't predetermined for you through the passive trait system. Because there are no points to allocate, there's no more tinkering with unique builds, thinking about your build, or calculating your allocation of skill points/synergies. Although stats played a lesser extent (due to most people putting enough str to wear gear, and rest into vit), removing stats still removed some unique build options such as pure dex amazons, pure energy sorcs, pure str barbs, half/half varieties of the aforementioned, and max block vs 50% block vs passive block depending on dex allocations.

When some time ago my friends discussed how a single player mode could still require network connection, I laughted at them, because these days almost every single PC is connected. Just now I realized how wrong was I and how right they were. The game is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to play because of disconnects and lags, even if you try to play just a little, just for fun, just alone. With these lags even by the time you reach end of Act 2, the game becomes something like "Spawn, freeze, wait, wait, wait, see your corpse". As for me, once per 15 minutes the game disconnects and forces you to start again from the checkpoint. Damn it! I prefer to explore everything, run in every corner and track (on minimap) where I have been. With these disconnects it is impossible, you always start on a new randomly generated map, scout about 30-40% of it and... disconnect again to start anew. Forget about completing everything, try to reach the next scenario milestone before it disconnects again. I am very happy for Blizz that they decided to make even more bucks on real-money auction houses and introduced online gaming to prevent hacking, but guys, I don't want to pay for your greed. I was never a fan of spending real money on virtual sh*t (wow, you just paid $$$ for that cool armor in diablo? wow! you are so cool, man, paying your real earnings for some set of bytes on Blizzard servers rocks! :)), and now you force me into lowered gaming experience because of your greed? Block my access to those stupid auctions, but give me normal gaming experience, for which I payed a considerable sum to you.
In-game graphics sucks. So many talking about "working 10+ years to give the best experience" and we still have static cartoon portraits of NPCs?!
A complete disappointment. Even not reaching the end of Normal difficulty I already regret about losing my money on that sh*t.

DON'T TRUST THE RECENT POSITIVE USER REVIEWS. Diablo 3 has spawned a small army of top tier "investors" who now have a financial interest in seeing that this deeply flawed game receives positive feedback. They don't see you as fellow gamer seeking honest opinions before a $60 purchase, but as a potential mark who will foolishly spend money at Diablo 3's Real Money Auction House.

I never had a problem with lag on steam protected games playing solo. If my wife checks facebook in the other room on her tablet, I literally get killed from lag. How dumb is that? This information should have been placed on the box for anyone who wasn't aware of relegated end-user security. Once you log in, you create a character which can be one of five different classes: Barbarian, Witch Doctor, Wizard, Monk or Demon Hunter. The classes can be male or female but offer no other forms of character customization. The classes all have a locked in 6-set ability kit, which can be changed to elective mode. The barbarian is the classic up-front-and-smash-face character with a variety of melee spells; the monk is naturally more mobile and evasive in combat; the demon hunter is the ace-single-target kiter; a wizard is ranged and has a slightly more varied combat kit than the demon hunter, but still relies on kiting; and the witch doctor is a hybrid blend of range and close-combat, relying on a unique set of abilities (such as pets) to mitigate damage and deal a ton back. All classes have their pros and cons, and in and of themselves, are not cause for negative gameplay experiences.

The gameplay is relatively smooth but incredibly generic for a game that's been in development for years. You hit and run any set of mobs with the only differences being barbarians using hp as a resource pool for usurping damage and ranged classes having hard snares. There are four difficulties with the later and most 'difficult' being Inferno. The monsters present only an increase in affix combinations and damage/hp; there are no significant puzzles or theorycrafting involved with killing a monster: You have the numbers to kill a monster (or group), or you don't. If you don't, you have the GAH or the RMAH to look to for upgrades. The GAH (Gold Auction House) allows you to use gold accumulated in the game to buy items. Gold offers no intrinsic value outside of its accepted use as currency to buy items. Unfortunately most upgrades at level 60 (pre 1.03) cost gold that would take the average person weeks to accumulate. This is further compounded by individuals who exploited the game early on with bots and hacks to steal gold from people who didn't use an authenticator and so amassed wealth at a rate that caused damage to the economy.

The RMAH allows you to spend real world currency to acquire items. However the only way to make use of this feature is by having a smart phone with SMS and a paypal account linked to your Battle.net account. To summarize, you must have an authenticator because Blizzard can't protect their online-only game. The character's and itemization offer no individualized dynamic aesthetic appeal. You can beat the game with whatever gear you find, but you can't experience the full content of the game because it is built around the use of an Auction house. The storyline constantly contradicts with the previous storyline given in Diablo and Diablo 2 --- or, at least strays away from the atmosphere and experience of the original two games and is filled by cheesy, b-rate quotes and poor voice acting. You may not play the game based on the story and that's ok because you might enjoy running around in circles for ten minutes with no hope of upgrading or individualizing your character.

You have 1 viable build and all you need is your primary attribute vitality and all resistance. If you do not care about mindlessly farm for 10 hours to buy 1 item and just let blizz say what you should play then for all means buy and play this game.

this is one gamer signing out from d3 and i most likley will not come back.

AH and RMAH are Diablo's cancer.
AH and RMAH are Blizzard's cancer.
AH and RMAH could be entire industry cancer.
Financial things are still our world cancer. Don't insert this on our games.

Help gamers and create an account to say this to Blizzard (because we have better chance to be read here than on their censored forums). I hope they'll focus on fun on their next games.

This game has been mutilated beyond all expectation and the "critics" don't know what they are talking about. Jay Wilson is a terrible designer and Blizzard should be ashamed that they put their label on this.

Not to mention, this game revolves around it's RMAH (Real Money Auction House). You can buy and sell items found/earned in game. Great idea only when you play the game and get a feel for how upgrades work and how important they are at certain stages of play, you realize you are most likely going to have to reach for that wallet to maintain any level of progression through the game.

    Overall:
Brief amount of Good Gameplay, Graphics Great for 2008, Pay-to-Win, Developers are unwilling and/or don't care, this game has many factors pointing to it's demise with haste. Truly a shame.

Diablo 3 is an awesome game. It's not your standard RPG but I loved the previous Diablo games and I love this one. The only problem is, I didn't pay for a game that I can't play when I want to play it. I understand the need for DRM, but not allowing for solo play off-line was the worst decision made in the history of gaming. For that, they get a zero. If you can't play it, you can't get rated.

    Over simplified.
-No in depth specilization in builds
-No interesting stats on loot. Your literally grinding for millions of gold to pay for +12 int (jewlcrafting assumption). That is not intersting compared to the old +x skill and +x chance to proc -insert interesting thing- along with the int raise.
-Few viable specs in the hardest mode and swapping is penalized. With no in depth specilization and penalizing swapping it gets extremely bland.

    No character attatchment
    -No customization other then armor.
-No humanization of protagonist (I am a killing machine programmed to destroy and shout things from time to time)
-No in game back story presented (my elder kin tells me it exist online somewhere)

    Patches have nerfed fun
-Large decrease in number of random loot earned through environment destruction
-Very large increase in repair cost while lowering gold drops discourages trying anything challenging.
-Added boss enrage timers. THIS IS NOT AN MMO.
-Skeleton king summoning archers was unnecessary and just annoying.
    -More reflect damage :(

    Witch doctors
-I am sorry you are second class citizens (patch broke both endgame playtyles, one a bug that wont be fixed till next patch, other the attack speed nerf). -I am also sorry your damage is all based around one ability that's a chore to use.

It goes on, im tired of typing.

This game is only playable online, even if you wish to partake in single player mode. Their server lag spikes, which happen frequently, often lead to the death of many players that play hardcore mode with no compensation or regard from their support team. The game play mechanics are severely limiting. There are no skill levels, no points to assign for attributes, and you are only able to use 6 skills at any give time. Changing skills will take away all buffs to your character, pull out a menu that blocks your entire screen and have a cooldown of a minute, which severely discourage players to change skills once they start playing. As a result, this game is solely based on gear and their auction house system. In order to progress in the game you are forced to rely on better gear. The problem is that in order to progress into the next part, you have to use gear that drop from that next part. Gear from your current point are 7 levels lower than you. The solution to this is to use the auction house and buy your gear either with gold or real money. As of the latest patch, they have made gold nearly impossible to get. Repair costs for items are now 5x higher than previously and the gold drop from environmental objects is near 0%. For every attack you make, hit you take, chest you open or pot you smash you incur repair damage. With the imbalance in gold, people are urged to use real money to progress in this game. Then when people buy thing with real money and DO progress, they nerf those items and they lose their value and the feel of progression that came with it. Blizzard has made progression in this game stagnant and punishes players for their the inadequacies of the development team with dealing with bugs in the game. The biggest problem is the arrogance they exhibit in saying that they want people to have variety to play with flexibility and to explore new ways to play BUT AT THE SAME TIME eliminate methods of playing the game that does not align with their philosophy (which changes frequently to suit their needs). They force players to play this game in only one way and eliminate any other methods of playing. As of this review, most of my friends have already left this game because of Blizzard's inability to LISTEN to what their player base wants instead of arbitrarily thinking they KNOW what players want. Their amount of people that play public games dropped from 20k to barely 1.5k on peak hours. Blizzard does not respect the players or their wishes for the game and has severely disappointed me as a fan. Expand

The worst part is that you are not dying to bosses, you're dying to random packs that are impossible to kill. And I do mean impossible.

Ok so you die, no big deal, save for when you die, you lose durability. And the repair costs are astronomical. An item that sells for 2000 gold can cost 4000 to repair. Why do you die? Because you simply cannot beat some monsters. Not by any fault of yours, but because they are simply too strong for a party of 4 to defeat. A character than can solo inferno diablo can be killed in Act 2 by some mobs.

Ok so how do you get more items, well you open your wallet. You can buy them with gold, but on each death you lose your gold (it starts around 4000 gold to repair your items per death and racks up), so you are not as wealthy as you'd expect to be. The only option is to buy them with actually currency, which of course is over priced. Blizzard takes a cut of each sale, and takes a 15% cut to transfer it to a paypal account.

Compare all this to Diablo 2. There were very strong boss packs, but nothing you could not handle. You start out weak in D2, and then by the end of the game you're very strong. The opposite happens in D3. You start out easily rolling through normal, but as you progress you become weaker even though you get better gear. Storage is also an issue, as you can only get 3 tabs (though the beta showed 5). It seems the game is more the first part of a game, and not a stand alone product. Blizzard is waiting for it's expansions to balance the game.

All in all, this isn't a game worth purchasing at least for the first 3 years of its release.

That alone should tell you everything you need to know about the game. For a game that was 12 years in the making it is extremly unimaginative and lets be honest it was never intended to be fun. It was made to make ActaBlizzion fist loads of money on the RMAH.The only hitch they ran into is that consumers like to get value for their $60 usd. and the platform is just a stripped down version of WoW with poorly ported controls poorly sized hit boxes poorly designed interface, and well just a poorly designed game in general. It has been barely a month since they (ActaBlizzion) broke all records for pre sales on a software release and they have less than 2000 people playing it. i have a monk that is well into inferno and even with the loot drops buffed in the latest patch mobs at the end of act 1 are still dropping loot from the hell play through.

I just accidentally dragged one of my skills off of my action bar and it zeroed my level 60 loot buff. EPIC FAIL. the only reason the buff is there in the first place is to keep people logged into the game for longer than 3 min at a time. because the servers couldn't handle the load.

ActaBlizzions solution: make the game so boring and unimaginative that people quit playing, because after all once they have your $60 usd who cares if you keep playing.

I can hardly wait to see the sales numbers from the next release from this FORMER industry leader.

If you decide to try this game you have to agree to the DRM ALWAYS LOGGED ON requirement. for those of you who don't know what DRM is it is an extremly sad attempt to keep the game from getting copied. the so called "Digital Rights Management" software downloads onto your computer and ties up valuable resources by having your own computer scan itself for copies or other attempts to hack or subvert the game. ( as if the people doing that would not remove the DRM first thing.) The end result is a poorly performing game with random sluggishness as your computer tries to catch you hacking, AND NO POSSIBLE WAY TO PLAY OFFLINE.

Even to play a single player campaign requires you be at the mercy of battlenets laggy and barely stable servers. The TOU states that battlenet can pull the servers down at any time with no warning for as long as they please and you have no recourse because you clicked ok on the TOU at the start.

but don't take just my word for it feel free to read everyone else's complaints on the official forums @ http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/3354739/

Awful game play and experience overall. If the original diablo developers were still working for Blizzard it might feel like diablo and more polished. The gear progression only takes place through purchases in the auction house. After 200+ hours on one level 60, I have not found an upgrade to use besides the auction house. They only let their beta testers play 1/48th of the game and it shows. Don't pay full retail for what will basically be another year of beta-testing. Currently, each patch makes the game WORSE, and they are sneaky about slipping in "hotfixes" that make it less fun, or fix things they refused to admit

Not only has this new team of developers managed to rip the soul out of Diablo, they managed to create a mediocre piece of badly coded shallowness catered to casual gaming.

What is most frustrating is the fact that their servers create lag spikes resulting in unfair deaths, their game is broken on so many levels and the latest patch only helped to suck more of the fun out of the game, along with breaking a myriad of spells and mechanics.

The addition of an Auction house and Real Money Auction House is another step backward, clearly Blizzard has seen what a money maker WoW is and decided to poor that into the game.

The result is a boring game with a childish art-style that only servers one purpose : Force people to spend real money on the Real Auction House.

This game is not about skill, it's about investing the most money to get the best gear and I am fully against these types of business schemes.

Furthermore they took everything that was remotely fun or remotely connected to actual skill out of the game.

Their hit detection is so broken it's possible for you to die from an attack performed by a melee mob on the edge of the visible playing field --> nowhere near you .

Blizzard's response to this issue : It's the way we want it to be, we don't want people dodging mobs.

I.E. : We are too incompetent to fix this issue and thus we'll just say it's meant to be that way.

I loved Blizzard, I forgave them for the folly that is WoW but this was the final drop.

    Total neglect of their userbase.
Extreme neglect of their European customers.
    Bad server stability.
Total lack of respect for it's customers.
Total lack of knowledge on what Diablo used to be.

If you feel like grinding for over 900 hours in a boring, demotivating environment where everything remotely fun has been siphoned out and being forced to spend Real cash on gear then this game is meant for you.

This is the last game I'll ever have purchased from Blizzard, I will be warning my children's children of the band of thieves that Blizzard represents.

Catastrophic disaster. The story is bad, the graphics are obsolete, pay-to-win, takes no skill to actually play the game. And with the latest v1.0.3 they infinitely ruined the game; Repair bills are way too high which forces to grind endlessly. They also nerfed the drop rate of loot considerably so you are force to use the Real-Money Auction House

All they are forced to do is 'farming'. This isn't the kind of 'farming' which rewards players for any certain amount of effort made. It is an activity that makes the player spend these hours only for a small chance of something coming their way that can then have a chance of having a percentage of progress. It forces this mindless grinding upon players, which only benefits the game's 'Real Money Auction House' system, from which Activision Blizzard is making a nice cut.

There is no single player mode, despite what is said. You must keep yourself online at all times, and that means under no circumstances that you could play on your own or have a 'LAN' party with only you and your friends.

The multiplayer mode is horrible. There is a limit of only 4 players per game total. Players suffer from a constant threat of having their accounts hacked, but they are forced to keep playing online because they cannot play offline. The online game play also suffers from a number of bugs, including but not limited to a bugged chat system, exploitable servers, and insecure online play.

The game itself, aside from the horrid farming forced upon players, has very little going for it. The controls are clunky and awkward, many times making the player's character do unintended things. There are several dozen implemented 'fixes' as Blizzard calls them, that are actually made to make the game more difficult in order to force the player to farm longer. There is almost no fun in this game, outside of the first play through, which lasts only about 6 or so hours.

The only alternative to farming for hundreds upon hundreds of hours is a single option that Blizzard would love for all players to take: paying real world money to win. That is, this game is made to force players to pay money to buy more items in order to progress. It is a slow choking that eventually will leave no players for this game at all.

TL;DR? This game is horrible and no one should pay more than 5 dollars for it.

I'll admit, I enjoyed the 20 hours that it took me to complete the single player game. The other 70 hours were an undending hell. In order to progress past "normal" difficulty you MUST use the the gold auction house.

In order to progress past "hell" difficulty, you MUST use the real money auction house and pay yet more money to Blizzard than the outrageously prohibitively $60 that these ^##%&(#@( already ask. (In case you are wondering, I'd pay $20 for this game in the bargain bin, it is NOT worth anything else.) Should you fail to heed this simple advice, you will spend entire weeks dying and not having fun.

Yes, that is right, the main theme of this game is death. All you will do is die. You will die not because you are a bad player, but because you do not have adequate gear. How do you get said gear? You do NOT play the game, you spend gold on the auction house, you spend yet more real money (than the outrageous $60 fee for such nonsense) on the real money auction house... a great deal of money. Then, maybe, you are capable of "playing" the game.

Should you ignore this advice and attempt to "play" the game like any normal PC game, you WILL fail. Death is extremely prohibitive. All of your gold will be spent on repair bills. The designers claim that you should be able to craft, in order to fill in missing gear slots. This is FALSE. You MUST use the AH, waste your gold, and you will not have enough to pay for the massive repair bills. If you die, under any circumstances, you FAIL.

Did I mention that this game requires a broadband internet connection to "play"? If not, bear that in mind. If you do have broadband internet, expect frequent delays and disconnections. You WILL DIE, regardless of your best efforts, simply because the Blizzard servers lag something awful.

DId I mention that the game is also terribly buggy? I play a 60 Wizard. Some of the most interesting skills that I have DO NOT WORK. This is unexcusable in game this mature and old.

Have fun playing the way that you are? Do not worry, Blizzard will patch the game soon to prevent you from having "fun". This is a concept unfamilair to these Zingy wannabes. As of patch 1.0,3 (yes, only 1.0,3 considering the replate flaws....), I lost 20% of my DPS from patch 1.0.2. There have also been many reports of Blizzard "hotfixing" the game to remove popular farming sites. After all, in order to succeed, you MUST spend 100's of hours farming (assuming you do not spend massive amounts of real life money on the real life money auction house to further this fiasco.)

Ugh, this awful metacritic text editor is not working correctly.... Anyways, I spent 100 days playing DIablo II. This Diablo sucks a lot. The graphics are also terrible. If anyone says anything good about this stinker, they're fans of farmville.... IF you like farmville, or dying, you'll like this terribad game.

First off, Metacritic appears to be censoring bad reviews of this game. The User Score is likely much lower.

The graphics suck. They are not much better than Diablo II, realeased over ten years ago. Think Torchlight with a lot less character and a lot higher GPU requirements. Think WoW style graphics and you have a good idea how awful this game looks.

The gameplay is simplistic. You die. You die, a lot. You die some more. You spend a all of your gold on repairs. Then you die some more and decide to quit the game. That's about all that happens after the first difficulty level.

If you plan on advancing, then you must use the auction house. It is impossible to solo this game. If you plan on reaching the highest difficulty level, Inferno, then you must also spend yet more money on the real money auction house (Blizzard takes a huge 30% cut of all purchases.)

There is no skill to this game. You do not spend skill points, or stat points, nor can you farm gear on your own. You must use the auction house. Well, I guess I shall end here, since metacritic refused to post my 5000 character critique... maybe this will actually be posted for a few seconds before Blizzard pays them to take it down.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you are from Oceania, then you will get 2 second delay; Blizzard has made no secret (or effort) to aid, assist or communicate to players about the issues of the latency. There is no plans for an oceanic server at all, and with the trend the company is taking it will only get worse.

That is only part of the issue; I could go on about how poor the story line is, the lack of game play, how over 80% of the maps ARE NOT randomized; the elites are far to over powered in inferno, how 2/5 classes are almost unplayable in Inferno and how the others have about 6 viable builds each..

In General, this is the most dissapointing game I have anticipated in the last 10 years, I am finding it hard to compare it too anything, maybe not having Suikoden 6, but then again D3 just brings tears to my eyes. Another thing I have to say is that Blizzards lack of empathy and customer service is beyond disgusting; to the point where you ask yourself are they even trying to be professional, or just sweeping players under the carpet hoping that the addiction of gaming will keep them quiet...

Well in this case, the gamers have spoken loud, and in volume. Check out the PRO CRITICS, they are all bought off by Blizzard and probably do not even play the game beyond the first week. BUY THIS GAME AT YOUR OWN RISK - and if you want a reason to stop gaming RPGS and go back to study, training or another real life activity, then D3 can give you that incentive! What frustrates me the most about this game is the developers and how they sit back behind their monitors just to laugh at us as they update the game with a patch that makes it harder for new players or casual players. I will admit that inferno is very hard and normal difficulty mode is a joke, but this repetitive game only has 4 levels (acts) that you will constantly play trying to grind levels and gear up your toons until you reach inferno difficulty and realize that all the loot you have farmed up to that level is worthless and weak. Then you go to auction house and buy gear costing 10 to 100 times more in gold than the gold you have collected in game but instead you can buy the gold and equipment for your characters with real money that you worked for when Not playing the game. This is what D3 developers want, for you to commit your time and spend real money, not have any fun when you get to inferno because all you do is die if you are not geared well enough or set/unlock your skills in the option settings. It is very sad that the people buying their gold and gear are the ones better off since this is a very gear dependent game, yet they update the game by making you pay ridiculous amounts of gold in repairs when you die and lower the drop chances of good gear for your toons which drives prices in auction house up since the demand is GREATER than supply Expand

They completely screwed up the loot system to promote the auction house. Inferno's difficulty curve is too steep, yet the loot rewards aren't exciting AT ALL, you just hope you get an item with good rolls, sell it on the auction house to buy stuff on it. And Diablo is all about the loot, it's the reason why we run higher difficulties.

The drop rate is quite poor, you can think because of the auction house , the game went to a pay-to-win game. SP should be offline, that's why it's called SP. Diablo 3/Starcraft 2 is the start of a new era for blizzard, Money>Quality of games. And yes, the goal is to make money, you're a business. But Diablo 1 was a far more innovative game in 1996 than Diablo 3. But Blizzard is laughing all the way to the bank because they advertise these games but once you've bought the game you realize you were have been rolled! I never thought I would ever feel that way about blizzard!!!! nOoOoo!

Diablo 3 takes about 50,000 steps back from where they began with the first game, okay sure it's a different game. but don't call it Diablo 3, because your fan base is going to think you are building off what you've started! It is very misleading!

My suggestion to Blizzard is: Come up with a new idea... Please. "Heroes of the Storm?" Really? SC2 was the EXACT same game as SC1 with some minor tweaks in graphics.... Diablo 3:

    6. All the numbers in Diablo 3 are so inflated, 6000000000000000000 damage? super sayaN? INFERNO DIFFICULTY X50000000000000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    8. I played with my cousin split screen on the XBOX because apparently on the console, "It's a totally different game." you have a total of 4 skills X,Y,A,B, in Diablo 2 I used F1-F12 and sure in D2 you could just be a spammy Hdin, But you had the ability to go beyond that. In diablo 1 you had the freedom to mix it up as well! "Sword and Shield Rogue mixed with some nuke spells, throw on the bow against those sexy succubus" ;)

9.ETC ETC ETC It goes on and on and on and on.

It's a falling from grace: Blizzard is no longer the company that it was, they have taken on the Activision CoD mentality.

The good news is. So many people STILL play D2, no joke at all ! LOL! Hope this was helpful.

You have two options to progress in this game once you're max level: 1) spend hundreds of hours farming the same content over and over with a small chance a high item level drops, and then an even smaller chance that the item that drops has stats that are good for you, OR 2) throw down some cash on the RMAH. At the expense of game-play/design, companies like Blizzard are more focused on adding ways to entice their customers to spend more money than on making a game the best it can be. This isn't a mistake. This was a calculated and planned decision thinking we'd all graciously separate from our money to make progress. Inferno was set at a ridiculously high difficulty in order to force you to choose one of the above options, hoping most people eventually decide they value their time and spend money. Terrible. I just pre-ordered TL2 ( or any other game would do )today as i was frustrated with D3 and hoping TL2 can wash the D3 memory from my brain.

First of all, There is almost zero creativity and troubleshooting with your characters ( things that made D2 the best game of all time in its genre ), and what makes it worse, Blizzvision is usually very FAST to NERFFFF the S*** out of heroes' Builds/skill set or even item affixes (eg:IAS) that allow players to almost faceroll inferno. I am quite confident that the MAIN reason blizzvision nerfes(or they say, Patches) the exploits of the system ( which is funnily their developers thought already balanced on 15 May) is to make sure the MAJORITY of the players play the F***ing game the WAY developers WANT them to play, which is obviously very gear dependent (for solo) and similar to WoW ( eg: melee tanks, range dpsing from behind). In other words MORE RMAH SHOPPING! more $$ milking!. With D2, I didn't know the terms of tanking, dps, or support role. those terms I learned from WOW!

secondly why this game is a tremendous utter failure is the loot/gears mechanic. ZERO creativity and with very bland Flavor. Leave almost no room for future gear improvement, sh**tty legendaries and yet the developers claimed it would be the biggest Diablo ever ( yea dream on ). only 3 most important stats that people can look for in D3 in terms of gear, the primary STR/DEX/ INT, VITALITY, and ALL RES (+optional 1 individual RES). nothing else really matter. as for weapon and attack power, mainly concerns of the weapon DPS and stats, but very few interesting effects whatsoever (mainly critical dmg, AS, and LoH, the rest of the effects are next to useless).

I also Realized that the whole game is mainly to get you hooked and hypnotized you to be dependent on Auction house ( blizzvision makes you accustomed to Gold auction house first, then progress to us$ AH. I still remember that even the FIRST day i played D3 (May 17), I already had to rely on GAH in order to progress much more quickly and some friends who refused the idea, got left far far behind. Ridiculously, this whole AH idea, completely destroyed D3 other feature which is crafting ( even retards know that buying stuff in AH is faster, cheaper and more reliable than sh*ts haedrig makes )

Lastly, I have very little doubt that when pvp does come out later, there will be a huge patch and nerfs in order to balance up the horrid mess that developers had made. in order to mitigate this, I am quite sure that the developers will implement some quick fix like introducing pvp gear only, or nerfing pve dps gear, and so on and so on. and at the end of the day there is hardly any uniqueness in each characters, except gear progression ( sounds WoWisH?)
it simply does not require much IQ to figure out that this scenario in the future will be full of WoWification ( way to go blizzvision, way to go!)

D3 is no fun at all, no fun, NONE,compared to D2 i played. in D2, i could enjoy even the first 15 minutes of play, much more gory, unexpected surprises, andariel spooked me, ( i laughed at butcher as he used the same 'fresh meat' phrase from dota /warcraft, and sadly uses the same hook skill ). I enjoyed exploring the stuff in D2, and it was hard even in normal difficulty at that time ( D3 normal mode is an insult to most players). When i played D3 I felt like I was working in a 2nd job. boring, tedious and very very repetitive, 80% of the map is fixed ). Blizzvision really did lie to customers in this map randomization feature.

then i reached a point where i was so bored, I deleted all characters i had (high/low level, including my baba) and uninstalled the game just to made my evening better after work.

After buying their two products and witnessing their current money milking business model, I can hardly trust any products from Blizzvision anymore in my life as they have proven themselves again and again as a company that only prioritizes money milking in order to afloat. too bad folks, this company will hardly reinvigorate our childhood memories.

The game has fallen INSANELY short of expectations, I am not just farming the AH for gold (I play HC as well, just to make the game kinda sorta fun) and there is little point to anything else than amassing more and more gold as finding that "must have" item is literally impossible by using the tried and true "farming" that we all knew and love from the previous incarnations.

The games community is hollow, it is overrun by goldfarmers (after day one) and the CM's / Dev's don't truly seem to care about the current shoddy state it is in. They are more interested in updating the RMAH (real money auction house, to make more money, they take a 15% cut and therefore that is where all their interest is.)
They ADMITTED they have NO end-game on the horizon (will prob milk the fans summore w/ an expansion that will fix the major flaws) so yea, this game is bad... and I am truly sad to say it as I have been following it since before it was released.

I feel sad about it all, but I feel I needed to say what was on my mind, as the forums are a TERRIBLE place to commune as they are ovverun with fanbois and whiteknights (prob on Blizz payrole) that will evicerate you over ANY comments that portray D3 in anything but a positive light.

Blizzard has jumped the shark folks.

This is a game made by Satan himself(Bastard even got his generic name in the title) that summons an horde of demons to torture our kids while playing it, and make them too attached to money with the evil Auction House. All christian games should stay away from this game if they want to be saved.

The combat is repetitive to the point you literally can run your finger along the keys and you will succeed. The character customisation is actually really bad, sure you're given options... but the options are minimal and end up having a very similar effect. The one redeeming feature which is why I am giving this game 2/10 is the art & graphics style, it is utterlly fantastic. On a whole this game should be avoided as it is a complete waste of money and completely boring to play. Blizzard simply screwed up on this one - BIG TIME!

    - People cleared Inferno after days, due to the completely bugged nature of this game that was never even tested on the highest lvl. - After we learned that it was possible to dupe Gold for several weeks, onle three ppl from my friend list (containing 39 chaps for D3 alone) decided to go on playing. They stopped two weeks ago.

A simple bug that wasn't corrected for days (!) allowed you to quadripple your money in a matter of minutes. Thats why there are still 500.000.000 GOLD items that sell. Because the gold is still in circulation, blizzard never took measures against it. Oh yeah, well that makes your hard earned 10 Million virtually ... worthless. Congratz! :(
