I was young and creeped out by the scary music, gothic theme, monsters etc.. Not to mention the scary lore which I read off the manual. But no matter how scared I was, I couldn't stop playing. Its a feeling I'd never experienced before. Being from a small town in India, I didn't get a chance to buy the full version for a few more years. When I finally saw the game at a store, I got my parents to buy it for my birthday. The game kept me hooked on single player for atleast a year. That was when read about Diablo 2 online. I looked for a copy in all nearby stores to no avail. I finally got a vendor to ship me the collectors edition for Rs. 4000 (around 100 US Dollars back then) in 2006, around 5 years after it was released. When someone is that desperate to play a game, that shows how good it is (I spent almost all savings I had at that point for this game). Broadband connections were very expensive in India and the single player was all I needed. I played multiplayer a few times but it never appealed to me much. Then, when Blizzard announced Diablo 3, I was one of the happiest people in the world. Despite being turned off by the cartoonish graphics, I trusted Blizzard to deliver. A day one purchase, definitely. Imagine my horror when they announced that Diablo 3 required a constant internet connection for offline single player. And they lied off their face that is wasn't DRM and gave absurd reasons to defend their decision. Do they think everyone has unrestricted access to high speed internet worldwide? What about people in universities and offices behind firewalls? What about people in underdeveloped and developed nations? What about people who are travelling to remote places and want a way to free themselves from boredom? Don't we all deserve to play your game. The solution was simple - store single player characters on clients and multiplayer characters on servers. But no, Blizzard decided to screw their true fans. I can't understand why some gamers are choosing to defend Blizzard on this. Is it to make you feel better for having wasted your money on this crap? If you had given me another expansion of DIablo 2 for 60 dollars, I'd have bought it. I'm not going to bother pirating this game and ruining my sweet Diablo memories with this WoW clone. Even though I don't like the colourful graphics of Torchlight either I'm going to buy it anyway for obvious reasons. Expand

Asia server keeps crashing every evening and only comes back on at like 3am. For people who have a job, this game is impossible to play. So yeah, unless you actually let me play the game I paid $60 for, this is going to be a zero.

I've played King's Quest I (released in 1984) with my young girls and had a great time doing it. What do you think the odds are people being able to play this game in 30 years due to the always on DRM?

This title brings nothing new to the genre, the need for a constant internet connection at face value appears to be a poor decision by Blizzard, then you are stuck with login errors, server maintenance, lag issue, the constant internet connection becomes game breaking.

This game has been simplified by the removal of the stats system, and simplifying the skill system which have removed much of the interesting potential of strange builds. The itemization is terrible, I did not want to play a single player WOW clone, this game needs to be heavily patched... before its worth a look.

I was actually playing it again last year when I heard the announcement for this game. I cannot express my deep disappointment in the absolute horror of a product they have released here. I thought I would be okay with the "dumbed down" character leveling, I am not, I thought that I would be okay with the online requirements, I am not; I thought that the leveling progression and story would grab me as the first two did... they have not. Perhaps it is because I am so much older now and my maturity has gotten in the way of being awestruck, perhaps it is because I had such high, high hopes for this game that there is no way my expectations could have been met.

Regardless, I do not blame Blizzard or the developers who made this game, they are running a business and I am sure the gaming industry reviewers will give this game an overwhelmingly positive score and this game will make the company millions. I blame myself for not listening to the red flags that warned me to stay away. I truly regret buying this game, it is simply not fun and a sham for the great series that was Diablo, I will not be purchasing any DLC for this game at all, I will not be buying Diablo 4, 5 or 6 when those eventually come out. I will learn from this mistake and definitely never pre-order a game again.

If this review could help anyone, I implore you to save your money and not purchase this game. There are a couple of other games of this genre coming out that I could look forward to, hopefully they will not disappoint me as this game has.

I signed up for Metacritic just to warn others about this game... that is how upset I am.

    Good luck.

I loved Diablo 1 and Diablo 2. Diablo 3 seems fun, when I can actually log in and play -- and there lies the problem. If I can't log in, I can't play. Getting home at the end of a long day at work, logging in, and then getting bounced 3 minutes later due to an emergency patch doesn't make for an enjoyable playing experience.

My expectation is that Blizzard got my money, I get to play

Kind of like tying a dollar bill to a string and pulling it away from your victim as soon as they get close. Very few companies once successful stick to quality standards and seek for never ending ways to exploit and sucker their customers once pleased with their offerings into bloating their coffers. Enjoy dishing out quarterly payments to these big gaming corporations to complete the forever incomplete product you are essentially buying. EA has been doing it for years, adding a few useless features or features that were already there or very easily could of been utilized in previous year titles. Huge disapppointment, past 10 years in development? Then they must have contracted it out to government employees because its nothign more than a watered down cut and paste from Diablo II. They have realized over the years that RMT is going to be THEIR future and still baby their WoW MMO. Not to mention that server stability is utter garbage...

What a huge disappointment! Quiet annoyed about having to fork out £44 for this. It is a terrible game and I want my money back. Its a lot to pay for a game and frankly I expected more. Its a lot to pay for a game and frankly I expected more. Its quiet obvious that I've paid £44 for the maintenance of servers so Blizzard can capitalize on their profits. Clearly very little of that money has gone into the development of this game. I'm not going to go over the connection issues and other bugs, they've been well documented. I want to talk about how I'm really bored of this game. Its a bland, its easy, its boring. The gameplay is so one dimensional its painful. When Blizzard first pitched this game we were promised a game that would require more strategy over the previous titles, but honestly, it more point and click than Diablo 2. And thats saying something. The storyline is basic, the twists are obvious, the music...oh don't get me started on the music! Its like Diablo has lost its soul. A lot of people have commented positively on the voice acting. I honestly don't see why. The actors sound too jovial for a game like this. There's no sense of danger, no sense of urgency, its like 'who cares' whether you kill Diablo or not. The fear of fighting your way through the world of sanctuary has gone. You cant take this game seriously because it looks like a cartoon. Even Hello Kitty looks more menacing than the monsters in Diablo 3.

And its the little things too like the sound effects. It sounds kak. You don't feel like your interacting with a system, rather passing through a load of screens. I was really looking forward to this game and ignored a lot of the negative comments directed towards it. This game had so much potential, I cannot believe that Blizzard have managed to sc@w it up.

If it was £20, then yea, fair do's you expect to have to take a gamble on a game at that price. But its £44! You expect something a lot more polished. Torchlight cost me £15 and that even though it doesn't have half the stuff Diablo 3 does, its still far more enjoyable. And I don't have to have a constant internet connection to play. C'mon Blizzard, that's a lot of money for people to pay, especially in this climate. What were you thinking?! Paying for a game like this would actually do more to encourage piracy than to put it off.

I was so annoyed that I created a metacritic account especially to express my annoyance. What I cant believe either are the critics reviews. Any reviewer worth their salt would not give this a positive score. Its just a joke. In my opinion their all sucking up to Blizzard and they should be ashamed of themselves. Consumers rely on critics to do their jobs so people don't get conned into buying something they won't like. I refuse to believe that every critic thought this game deserved over 80%. Not just because of personal experience, but because of the huge numbers of users that have given it a negative review. You might argue that there are over 800 positive reviews, but if you read them, you'll notice that alot of them are protest reviews against the negative one. So far I haven't seen one negative critic review and that says it all. We've been conned by Blizzard and we've been conned by the critics. I'm going to ask for my money back and I'm going to boycott Blizzard games from now on.

WTF is the point of being a peasant in a game are you serious who signs up to that?) - crappy graphics(torchlight looks better honestly nothing stands out plain bland graphics and just sad all round performance i have no idea why it needs a beefy comp to run those sorts of pathetic images)

    -No customization at all
    -None replayability
    -Ridiculously flat skill/attribute points
    -Extremely linear
    -Difficulty not challenging at all
    -No runewords
    -Pay to win RMAH
    -Battlenet 2.0
    -WoW-like skills and graphics
-+200str an armor? lol...(WoW-like items, never seen a +200str or +200 any other attribute in diablo games)
    -No PvP on release
-Checkpoints (awful implementation) -Joining game issues like: leveling up or getting waypoints you didn't have.
-Almost none ingame trade system (no global chat equals no trade between players equals all trades made with blizzard as intermediary equals high end items that worth RM get sold in RMAH equals blizzard getting part of)
    -12 years wait.

    Pros:
-Due to the dificulty and the mobs AI you could still play Diablo III even with both arms broken.
-Its pretty optimized for smooth gameplay even on not high end PCs.

It's unfortunate and a major disappointment. I'm surprised all the 'paid for reviews' gave this game an average '86' Metascore. To recap what others have stated: 1.) No offline gameplay
2.) Even if you play alone in a private game to get a 'single player' feel, you get disconnected frequently and losing progress.
3.) Cash shop / auction house / pay to win 4.) No PvP / Hostility

7.) Average completion of normal mode is about 7-12 hours.

All in all, I wish the original developers made this game. They wouldn't have fked it up so bad. There's probably a reason they stopped at Diablo 2. It feels like they just pulled more prime evils out of their ass to milk the Diablo franchise.

And now, it seems that Diablo 3 is the game that broke the camels back. The respect I had for Blizzard being a revolutionary and innovative game publisher is all but lost. After paying the hefty $60 price, I am unable to play the game, not because of my computer specs, but the fact that the game has to be connected to the internet to play both multi and single player. I was aware of this fact when purchasing, however because Blizzard's server isn't even working properly, I might as well hang the diablo 3 DVD from my clothes line outside to keep the birds away; this way the DVD would actually be useful. In any other situation, if a company sells a product (or as Blizzard would like to call it, a service) in mass numbers that doesn't work, it would be refunded or recalled. This game is a perfect example of how corrupt the pc game industry has become, and how somehow it is the consumers who are out of line, because they are complaining about buying a $60 paperweight. Shame on Blizzard. By trying to discourage piracy with their always on single player connection, they only alienate the legitimate consumers who pay for their products. Moving past all of this, when actually able to play, the actual game itself is nothing new, rather an oversimplification of the former Diablo games. Attribute points are gone, character customization is limited to male or female, there is no options to choose skills (most of which are very unoriginal). In addition, the dark, moody graphics that helped define the Diablo series have been throw out for cartoony, WOW rip off graphics. To make things even worse, Diablo 3 has implemented real money, pay-to-win auction houses, allowing players to simply pay cash to create a strong player, rather than through their accomplishments in the game. To add insult to injury, players who use this feature will be helping to fatten Blizzard's wallet with every transaction, as Blizzard will be taking a 15% cut of all transactions, in additional to a $1 fee for every real money transaction. I am disgusted with Blizzard. 9 nine years in development and all we get is a money-making scheme disguised as the revolutionary Diablo 3 game that loyal fans to the series have eagerly been waiting for, taking advantage of their loyal consumer base. In closing, if there was one word to personify what I see Blizzard as after all this, it would have to be.. diablo. Expand

The looting system sucks, the multilayer "Match making" sucks. This game wont span generations like diablo 2 did....

In order to play the game, you have to select a quest to play. You cant just join into a game, or create a room. Your stuck doing that one quest. You cant switch acts unless you leave the game and load a quest from the book in the act you want. So no more Practical mf runs...

The colors in the game are.. disturbing... One of the bosses, actually is wearing a PURPLE cape. In D1 and D2, monsters capes were either black, or red... Not purple. 70% of the wizards skills emit purple rays. Monsters seem cheery, and are recycled often. Unique monsters are just larger versions of their orignal 3d models.

The Scenery in the game, is great.... But it does not apply to all places. In Diablo 2 and 1, you had a black space bordering the dungeon you were in. Think the Catacombs in Diablo 2. In Diablo 3, you have a similar level, except instead of a black space bordering the walls, you have in almost every location, a bottomless pit, or a giant wall that heads down seemingly forever. With great looking 3d effects. Its the cellar of a cathedral. It DOES NOT SPAN DOWN ENDLESSLY!

This type of scenery did work well when your near the end up in heaven, seeings the ground below and walls and clouds extending down... worked well there... like horizans sanctuary in d2..

No pvp as of yet, the Diablo world is a dark world, where players can do what they want. In Diablo 2, if i disliked my ally, i could go to town and hostile them, and kill them if i so choose. Diablo iii is going to follow the pvp system from a wow pvp server, it will pop up a menu asking if you want to 'Duel". I dont want my enemies to have a choice, i want to hunt them down...

Replay value? What replay value? Play through it twice and you have all the levels memorized, there is no random dungeon spawning.... Well there is... but its a cave that will spawn in the level at one of a few pre desginated points. These dungeons are always tiny, like one or two rooms tiny, the room fits entirely on your screen.

The characters level up automatically, you cannot set stat points, or skills, the only way to modify this is by equipment. Its pretty much a choice between equipment that does more damage, or equipment that adds more health..

I was hoping to return to places we have seen in Diablo II, meet old characters. But The only returning characters were Ashera, and Cain, and of course Diablo. The only place you see in Diablo III, is a sorry excuse for tristram, that resembles nothing of the orginal. You even get to go into something that's supposed to be Adrias hut.... You don't even cross a river to get there...

Play the game, enjoy it for what it is. Dont take it too seriously, then put it away untill they release an expansion or something...

Would i reccomend this game to the hardcore diablo fan, no don't waste your time / money

If you want the real diablo 3 feel, i'd reccomend games like Torchlight, or Titan quest (Greek mytholodgy)

They pulled it off right. Diablo iii FAILS

And not just because after a decade of waiting, expectations were so high.
Even if I had bought this game with no expectations at all, it would still be a stinker.

Most importantly though, the DRM management is absolutely unacceptable. When you buy a product like this, you encourage the developers to continue doing this.
I bought this game. I paid good money. I have the right to play it whenever I want, wherever I want PERIOD. I will never buy a game with crooked DRM ever again. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS OR IT WILL BECOME THE STANDARD!

We started playing but lo' and behold, we don't have a lot of time to play ( we both work during the day so play a bit during the night). So well, we decide it's time to pack it up, log off and continue next evening and what do you think happens ? Everything we discovered is flipping gone ! The map is black again so we had to run the **** boring super-easy content again, and again and again and again and again and again, wtf ?

I will not even mention that the game is flipping laggy at times and it feel like a chore to play it but today it took the cake for me. I am in the lunch break so I decide to play a bit solo with the witch doctor and see what that's about but guess what ? THE FREAKING SOLO GAME IS SO LAGGY THAT I CAN'T FREAKING PLAY ! wow ! So I decide to play a bit to wash away the stress of a half work day and Blizzard got me really pissed off, and all that because I was retarded enough to spend 120 euro for their ****

Now, why does this game have any inventory ? Considering that all character management is gone, vanished, bye bye and that the game currently is kind of a mindless : gather 10000 crap white 2 gold items, go back and sell, rinse and repeat ten folds and that any gold drop above 30-40g will be worth like 20 things in your inventory ... why not remove it all together ? this way you just get rare stuff which gets auto-equiped and that's that, no need to have a useless feature.

What happened to Diablo 2's randomly generated stuff ? We are just in ACT I but until now everything looks the same and stays the same, even the Cathedral is largely the same with not much variation, you can guess where the exits are most of the time - I guess this is how people finished the game in 12 hours or less ? Meh.

There is more stuff but I can't be bothered to put it in, if you don't believe me, the guys @ Rock Paper Shotgun and a lot of other people here feel free to throw your money out of the window and let me know later what you believe.

    Have fun.

Still the amount of game content is lacking. At least in normal difficulty it seems impossible to die which makes the game quite boring. I'm not particurally fond of lazy difficulty systems where you just multiply monster's hp and damage by a certain amount, either. The next day I went round a friends and she was playing it, only to discover it was incredibly laggy, and that the game was shorter than most single player games (skyrim/fallout fan here). I played on it a bit, the graphics look very cartoony, voice acting is horrible, I heard there was an auction house for real money? Erm so basically you buy to win? Isnt that a bad thing? The bobo's at Blizzard say that the game needs to have internet connection all the time in order to avoid piracy & malicious hacking. CD Projekt (The Witcher 1 & 2) has proven already that games can be successful, even when published in a DRM free business model without online requirements. It is just a matter of interacting with your gamers' community before, during and after development. Wasteland 2, funded by Kickstarter community, is also good example of this. And, let's not forget, we are talking about the mighty Blizzard: the company sitting an a pile of cash, running a MMORPG with millions of users for many years now. Still they completely failed in delivering a network and server infrastructure which is up for the challenge. "We will release Diablo 3 when it is ready" they said. Well, in my humble opinion, if you demand your customers to be online all the time, I think it is fair to say that network and server infrastructure becomes an integral part of the game. They failed. Not taking into account this deal-breaker; the game deserves for graphics: 8, sound: 9, gameplay: 7 = I simply expected more from the in-game graphics. The 2 zoom modes don't do it for me. The lack of character customization. The randomization that has gone too far. At a certain point I want to be rewarded with stuff my character can actually use without going through the burden of going online for finding the right gear and trying to sell the huge amount of gear I don't need. I wasted tons of resources and gold on making gear, hoping to get something with dexterity bonus for my demon hunter... In the end it is not rewarding, because I spend too much of my precious time not enjoying the game. And that is very frustrating... At least I have got all my achievements related to "Salvaging"....yipee...What's next: daily and weekly quests?

There is no uniqueness at all. For single player game, users have to be connected to the internet all the time due to the idiotic DRM. I am sure a lot of people WORLDWIDE would appreciate to play OFFLINE mode. The graphics looks cartoonish and at least 5 years behind the current standard of graphic design. Often my character is not even identifiable in a mass enemy encounter. What funny is that the skill casting effects has absolutely nothing to do with your equipped weapon. Therefore 10 players would look exact same when they cast the same attack even they use different weapon. Real Money Auction House?? Seriously, is Blizzard trying to scam people's money after they have spent a good fortune on a piece of failed product. Should this game be enjoyed equally amongst all users? Pay-to-Win is not for true gamers, only for those who like to show off. Well, Blizzard is taking 15% cut to make a profit. I purchased the digital download version first because i knew my collectors edition that i ordered to be shipped would not arrive on time. Again staying positive here, once i finally was able to play, I was happy with the graphics, as well as the story line. To be completely honest i Truly enjoyed the departure of assigning skill points and playing with skill trees. I feel that this gives me more time to immerse myself in battling foes and focusing on the story rather than worrying on how many skill points im saving or if i messed up and put too many point in a certain stat. I really enjoy the story, i like seeing all the characters that we heard about in the past finally show up and make a mess. Not only that but the story line brings back old favorites and really can play with ones emotions. Ok now we can talk about the bad stuff, Granted there are some real good things up there, but the bad stuff im going to list here, are more of a Business mistake rather than a developer mistake. CLEARLY most of what you will read here on all these reviews as well as in this section did not have to be this way. Right from launch Blizzard literally tells the customer "WE are rich, we have what you want, and if you dont like it, we dont care". First and foremost, you dropped 60 bucks on this game, 59.99 to be exact, and 1 cent doesnt really make a difference, its more than 59 dollars and one cent less than 60 so we will just call it 60 and be done with it. Blizzard said 12:01AM Pacific time you can play the game. sure that was true for many customers, but not all... Why, because its online only.... You cant play this game on a plane, you cant play it on a train. though you could probably play it while eating green eggs and ham.... so long as you have a broadband internet connection. that means you cant play it on your life raft in the middle of the Atlantic probably cant even play on your grandfather's farm in the middle of no where nebraska. No internet there.... or they only have dial-up, yes i know its 2012, but guess what there are still people that have dial-up. and YES THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT STILL HAVE AOL (the kind that came on a cd or floppy disk in 1995) they cant play diablo 3... they are "NOT ENTITLED". yes im the fortunate few that has a broadband connection, i wasnt able to get on for four hours on launch day. i live at most 20 minutes away from a video game store, i could have left my house four times bought a title and have 4 working games right out of the box. so not being able to play what i paid for is a big time sad face. another big sad face is for a game that is just as easily single player as it is multi-player, i have to suffer multi-player problems in single player games.... lag..... i cant tell you how many times i have been face to face with a boss... then all of a sudden everything freezes... then 30 seconds later, a screen pops up saying you are dead... its one thing to die and it being your own fault.... you bit off more than you chew it happens. i can suck that up all day long, sure i might get mad if it happens all too often i might throw something, i might flip a buffet table who knows. but when its NOT my fault, when its My ISP, My crappy router, or more than likely over populated blizzard servers. now i want to flip Blizzard's buffet tables! i want to tie up Vivendi's french speaking CEO and flip the table so the creame frieche ruins his expensive suit! I am a paying consumer, i should not have to put up with this. Blow this off as another whiny entitled rant, but you know what, you are DAMN right i am entitled, I paid for something i want it to work properly. i bought everything i need for my computer to run, it works as intended i am happy, i bought my internet it usually works as intended and when it doesnt i call my ISP and they FIX it. i bought diablo 3 and it doesnt work as intended i call support and they tell me they are aware and are investigating the problem, they do absolutely nothing to tell me they are going to fix it. no reassurance nothing. thats bad business, and business arrogance. Put simply Blizzard has made so much money off us consumers, that the consumer's happiness no longer matters. Diablo 3 will be the last title i ever purchase from blizzard or their affiliates. I do not do business with blunt arrogance. Expand

Everyone should avoid this monstrosity at all costs. You have been warned. Blizzard should not be allowed to profit on this nonsense. Just because of the name, they figure they can half ass this and still make money. Guys, we should boycott this.

Wow what an EPIC FAIL! Way to go Blizzard!

Bad graphics, boring over simplified game play. Over priced. Rip off your customers pay to win store. Intrusive DRM. Have to log in to play a single player game. It took ten years to craft this piece of garbage? I don't think your fan boys or employees are going to be able to keep up with the negative reviews on this boat anchor. This "game"

This "game" looks like it was designed by your board of directors. Blizzard's reputation is going to take a giant hit on this disastrous rip off.

Diablo is definitively not to be purchased at 50 or 40$. Mandatory internet connection is just wrong. We need solo player. Automatic skills selection is wrong. Tested on a friend PC, I will buy it when it is 10$. Does not deserve more. If you want a real great sequel to Diablo 2 go and support Path Of Exile which is what Diablo 3 should have been.

It comes as no surprise that most of the "official" reviews of this game rank it highly. I am unsure of how they can do so with a straight face, especially when nearly twice as many users have given this game a negative ranking than a positive one. It probably has something to do with perks offered to these reviewers by Blizzard, who knows?

This game is a complete let-down. Aside from the intrusive DRM and the fact that you cannot play single-player without a constant internet connection, the game itself is just sad. They have dumbed everything down. The graphics are reminiscent of World of Warcraft, which isn't too surprising given that its made by the same company, but it just destroys the whole mood for me. Another thing that destroys the mood is the dialogue in the game, which was clearly not thought out very well as most of it is just comical. When I play a game like Diablo, I want to feel like I am fighting for my very life, like I am truly struggling to save humanity from a dark and sinister evil. Instead, I feel like I am playing a World of Warcraft - Diablo mod. Even the secret level in the game, Whimsyshire, is a childish-looking, rainbow- and pony-infested atrocity. The developers might have thought it to be funny, but to the consumer it is just completely insulting.

The game is completely unappealing to hard-core Diablo players and they have dumbed it down so much I feel like they shouldn't have even bothered releasing it at all. Blizzard has really let all their previous success go to their head. Instead of giving us new ground-breaking titles, they give us half-assed games that only sell well because of the franchise's name. Yet, people are reluctant to see the writing on the wall and continue to encourage this kind of behavior, because "OMG it's Blizzard, it MUST be good!" DRM is not okay. Even the people who claimed it was were whining and complaining when they took the day off from work on launch day and couldn't log into the game. Hypocrites.

The real-money auction house is going to destroy the economy. People delude themselves into thinking they are going to get rich with it, but they fail to realize that there are going to be millions of people doing the same. Within a short period of time, perhaps a few months at the most, even the rarest loot will be available for extremely low prices. People who pick up the game after this period of time will be able to equip their characters with the best possible gear without doing any work. Where is the fun in that? Diablo has always been about grinding bosses for loot and finding random strangers with whom to trade. It's clear Blizzard just wanted to control the profit OTHER people were making in Diablo 2. I've heard all the "justification", but let's face it - Blizzard is greedy and they don't care about putting out a ground-breaking game, they only care about profits.

The lack of mod support is sad. Part of what extends a game's longevity is the inclusion of mod support, but I guess greedy ol' Blizzard doesn't want people to touch THEIR code. That's why they included all the DRM in the game, so that you can only truly RENT the game from them.

Lack of LAN support is also sad, since you have to rely on Blizzard's servers. Forget playing with 0ms ping with your best buddies in the comfort of your own home. Instead, you'll have to pray that your internet connection is strong and that Blizzard's servers aren't down for maintenance or chugging because of all the millions of concurrent users. I guess Blizzard's way of bringing people together is by keeping us apart.

0/10. This game is a complete disappointment and I feel sorry for all the people who delude themselves into believing Blizzard's reasoning for everything that is WRONG with this game. Actions speak louder than words, and Blizzard seems to care an awful lot about making sure people hear their words and ignore their actions.

    $59.99 better spent elsewhere.
+ It has the Diablo brand name on it. I guess that's a plus...

First and foremost, this game is simply broke.

Because of the required, always online DRM, if you have the slightest hiccup at all over your connection, you get disconnected. Oh, that's not all. If you have any latency at all, you have lag in your game. So, yes again, YOUR SINGLE PLAYER GAME WILL LAG because Blizzard (for what appears to only be selfish reasons) requires you to have always online DRM.

One might hope that "well at least the game (when you can actually play it) is good, right?"

I wish I could tell you it's a good game. It is 2012 and this game looks 10 years old. At least. No joke.

And, then the controls just plain suck. It might because of the 300+ ms of latency that the current servers are running at; hard to tell, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and *hope* that the gameplay improves if they do something with their servers (but why should they have to?!?!...) But really, how hard should it be to Point.. and Click... in a single player experience?

I really wish I could 'review' the game. I mean, I've been waiting for this game for like 4 or 5 years when I heard the first rumors of a Diablo 3, but despite getting the game immediately on release day, I've only been able to play for a total of 4 hours or so because of the constant disconnections.

I really don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a game. And that is really saying a lot.

The game-play was completely dumbed down to the point that a trained chimpanzee could complete the game without any problems, the graphics look as though they were taken out of WoW and darkened slightly. As I feared, Blizzard have forgotten how to make a game that is not the hugely successful WoW. Diablo 3 is a huge let down for anyone who has ever played either Diablo or Diablo 2, and I, in all honesty, cannot see how it would attract new players (aside from those who fell into the hype). I won't be a fool and say Blizzard "owned us" a great game, after this long of a wait, but after waiting for eleven years, expectations were high. They were met with Starcraft II, and they were simply destroyed with Diablo 3. It is as disappointing a game as you will ever find, and there is absolutely no way I am ever going to fall in love with it. For those reasons, my rating is a solid zero. Expand

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
