I made an account for the sole purpose of expressing my anger at the poor quality product I was tricked in to spending my money on. To be fair, the game is quite fun and pretty to look at. Either it won't let me on, or will tease me for a few minutes before it boots me. I'm glad to see everyones anger at this crap and I hope these crap ratings deter others from purchasing it. If I could return this product I would march down to gamestop and demand my money back. I realize piracy is a complicated issue to control. But I'm getting sick of this whole 'not really owning the things I paid for' thing. I hope the people responsible for screwing this up are having a really bad day. It makes me angry that so many people still crap that companies are having to resort to bs like this. But this isn't the way to do it. I would gladly undergo a slightly more intensive registration process if it meant I could actually play the game I bought without the lag and getting booted. Or not being able to play it at all. I feel like blizzard sold me a product I can't even play. Expand

This game is unplayable for most of the time that I want to play it - even SINGLE PLAYER. This is totally unacceptable as the always-on DRM is only in place to protect their pay-to-win real money auction house.

We are witnessing the downfall of PC gaming right in front of our eyes.

    Do Not Buy.

I just paid $60 for an error message. This game is worthless until Blizzard can fix the connection problems. Until then, I'll be looking into how to get a refund. I'm so sick of being disappointed by new PC games.

Complete with outages and game breaking patches. This is my first and probably last review, but with always online requirements breaking a game so consistently, we all need to tell companies that this will not pass and that cheaters, software pirates are their issue, and their issue alone. Oh and on the no LAN support issue, I played this game at a LAN it was a boot fest, I guess the LAN is dead. Sorry kids you missed out on a real great thing. Expand

Servers are never up/ if they are the AH isn't up or working. The game is broken in inferno and becomes about as fun as a root canal. Itemisation is garbage. Blizzard continues to go downhill after Activision takeover. They should be embarrassed.

In fact I think the server's go down weekly now (which I never knew about).

Sadly the only people enjoying this game to it's full potential are the pirates as they have no server downtime and they aren't kicked from their single player experience. Activision (I refuse to call them Blizzard as that company is long since dead now) have really screwed up with this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. With 120 hours of playtime, the game is done. Broken mechanics, tedious, not hard(One-hit KO from out of sight creatures is the new hard). Zero customization.
Once an attack animation starts, it cannot be dodged.
You do not fight, you run around and try not to get hit while laying down AOEs. With heavy WoW influence, you now see "enrage timers", which is a simple "You die".
The game is centered completely around the real money auction house to fill greedy pockets. Loot is entirely TOO random. You get a class specific item with the entire opposite of needed stats.
    Exploits and bots are everywhere.
Extreme amounts of compromised accounts, and all Blizzard can say is "get an authenticator".
Case insensitive passwords, weak measures against brute force attacks.
Blizzard forum moderators are insulting and offensive.
The forums are filled with trolls, and any constructive criticism is locked/deleted off of the forums if Blizzard doesn't like it. The troll posts stay much longer.

If you buy this game in the near future, understand you are purchasing your way into what really seems like beta testing. The games core mechanics were drastically changed 4 weeks prior to release with no testing, and Inferno was never tested properly.

If you want to pay to win, open your wallet, you might have a good time.

And god help you if you log into public games. Hacking is unbelievably common. people logging in and stealing your stuff. Fortunately Blizzard will happily sell you an authenticator for six bucks. Do not buy this game. Or, if you must, first search for "5 Creepy Ways video games are trying to get you hooked", an article from cracked. Read that and understand that this is all diablo is about. Addictive treadmilling. You have no significant customization options, no significant means to influence your characters build (No Knife and dagger Demon Hunters... not if you don't want to die every encounter). At best you get dualwield, sword and board, or two hander... and even the differences between these two are negligible. What I'm trying to say here is that the play is extremely shallow. It lacks any kind of depth and if you've followed the diablo mythology for any length of time you'll pretty much know exactly how it'll end about ten, maybe fifteen minutes in. This is not an exaggeration. I figured it out roughly that quickly. However, if you're dumber than a box of hammers you'll get to learn the exact same thing I figured out about 20 hours later when you've completed the game. All that's left is higher difficulty. Mind you, higher difficulty doesn't really unlock any significant new options (you have character progression til sixty but you'll beat the game on normal around 30)... The critics were either bought and paid for or too terrified of knocking blizzards new MMO. I cannot stress this enough. This game is an enormous con job the likes to which, in roughly 20 years+ of gaming) I've never seen before. Expand

Terrible game, end game is pointless and broken. The game has been abused from the beginning and a exploited to where a select group have free reign over the entire Auction House. The demand is only getting larger for act 3/4 items, whilst the supply is staying the same because the people who abused/exploited the game in the early stages are the only people who can obtain the gear.

It feels like every game design choice Blizzard made was done with the sole intent of driving every player to the real money auction house. In Diablo 1 and 2 community interaction was a huge thing. Trading was the lifeblood of these games, but Blizzard all but eradicated it in Diablo 3. As a result, Diablo 3 feels like a hallowed out shell. Oh, and they just added 100 Paragon levels on top of the original 60. Blizzard decided you had to play this game online, even if you play solo. Keep that in mind if you decide to go and buy the game. Because you simply won't be able to play it if Blizzard' server down. And they are, a lot of time, down. So you probably won't even get to decide if you like the game design.
Sono veramente all'inferno.

    [English Version]
After 12 years of waiting for the sequel to Diablo 2, finally here it is.
Deliberately I avoid the part of the installation of the game. I would not be objective.
    Later in the game.
Toh! What a strange graphic ... uh ... I do not think so "attractive" as they praised. In fact ... I think just a little "antiquated". Yet the colors ... I'm a bit strange, too doughy ... too watery ... too "pastel".
The classes are "cute". Nothing really great to be honest, there is much lack of classes like the necromancer ...
    -After 10 hours of play-
    There's something not quite right.
Skills are "strange". Not really "cool" are all average earnings and average are all useless.
Also the equipment ... is very strange. I have a terrible misfortune, and I find really useful objects. Also in this case, the equipment that are unable to loot from the mobs / boss, is on average useful and useless on average.
    -After 60 hours of play-
They are to "Hell". I'm really in hell. I'm freaking out.
There is no logic in the exponential expansion of the fightings. The various enemies gain powers and abilities in an absolutely random mode. If you redo the same 10 times Rare/Elite/Boss, 10 times more and will use different abilities. Not to mention that in addition to their "super enhanced" ability, they acquire even more Rare/Elite/ Boss abilities. It's a delirium. The system is made not to be exceeded.
There is only one way to end "Inferno" to Diablo: avoid all Rare/Elite on the path and go directly to the boss. There is no other solution.
Even the equipment is a foolish choice: the player is FORCED to use only the Auction House. Even here there is no other way. There is no way to loot decent gear, even with the stack of Value of the Nephilim.

To conclude: there are games that are hard in a smart, funny, mode; Diablo III is hard only in "retard idiot" mode.
In a nutshell: if you come towards the end of the fourth level increases excessively the feeling of being cheated, the feeling of being cheated.
Finished Diablo "hell" is just one thing to do: uninstall the game and forget about spending money on such crap.

I'm guessing they are trading your information to other sites to make a little cash on the side while you play one of the most dissapointing sequels of the decade. The problem started when they decided to make the game. Hack & Slash games aren't very good to begin with. We all played Diablo and Diablo 2 because we were waiting for Starcraft, or the next Warcraft RTS game. Probably the same reason why Blizzard eliminated the studio after the mediocre interest of Diablo 2. Then instead of coming up with a new ip, which I believe was rumored, they brought back their B franchise. Think of Warcraft without 90% of the lore. It's like the mouse for the PC just came out and they are showing you what it's capable of doing. I thought Blizzard shifted from making games this bad and wanted to build mmos and advanced rts esports games, the next age of gaming, instead they wanted to release another Diablo with half the content, no PVP, a gimmicky way to rip players off with a store that should be illegal. They forced it to be on the internet so that they wouldn't have cheating. The problem is no serious players are going to play this for long, so cheating might even add a bit of interest to the game after people have nothing else to do which happens after two days and beat it. Hey now try it but the enemies have a lot more health and the same artificial intelligence. Expand

I played single player a couple days and then switched into playing multiplayer with my wife. I never joined a public game, never talked to anyone in chat, never interacted with the online component in any way. My account was hacked less that 15 days after purchasing the game. Blizzard had rollback points, which is good, if they're frequent. I'm a casual gamer now, so I play sometimes, maybe 2 or 3 times a week. They had one rollback when I was level 4 and another when I was 18, none for all the progress after that. In addition, even though their choice to put this pile of trash online only, you can only have 2 rollbacks for the lifetime of the account. So if you get hacked at lvl 60 and lose all your rare and legenday items and then it happens again that's all you get. A third hack will mean personal loss.

I will say the game is very fun, the enemies are varied and challenging and the game itself has a lot of polish. If it had SP/LAN this review would be a 10. But so far my interaction has been play the game and have a really great time, then I got hacked, then I alerted blizzard and they took forever to get back to me. 48 hours is too damn long. Especially when the account recovery tool quotes 6-12. So they tell me that I can have my stuff back if I want to be out of level with my wife and unable to play with her. I skipped the restore because of the 2 restore lifetime limit, but this experience has ruined the game for me. I've not been hacked on any game ever before because mostly I run LAN with the direct connections to the internet disabled completely. (Eliminates interruptions from SMS/IM services)

This review slams the game pretty hard, but the core of the game is good. The mechanics are solid and it's really an awesome feeling when you put the right skills together and lay waste to the minions of hell. But making every single person that bought the game a target for hackers is **** What I've really lost is my respect for Blizzard. Before you slam be and tell me that I just don't like blizzard, understand that when I was 5 I found Warcraft and I played Warcraft everyday until Warcraft II, which I played everyday until I found Diablo. I've logged thousands of hours into Blizzard releases. More time that I've spent playing every elder scrolls game, even arena and daggerfall. That's saying something. Within a week of buying Skyrim I'd logged 100 hours while working a full time job. I think when I finally stopped playing Morrowind the damage was around 700 hours. 23 hours into this one my account is hacked and the game is virtually unplayable due to the terrible customer service.

If you're just looking for a casual game where you can log in and play with a friend or two, save your cash for Torchlight 2, put up with the lower budget and enjoy a game that not every hacker in the world is hacking into.

The game's probably alright if you're a casual gamer or have zero intention of playing Inferno (guess where the good items drop...) but if you're a serious Diablo fan or anything resembling a "hardcore" gamer, you should hold off on D3 and either wait for them to "unstupid" the game or simply skip it.

Moreover, while the game could be addictive notwithstanding in a foolish way if you take it for what it is (an arcade hack'n'slash with outdated concepts and graphics and no real creativity in it), Blizzard adds another weight to the scale:

The enforced online-only nature tied to Battle.net servers and the pitiful service offered by their servers.

For the game itself, the mark would be 5...the game is really bad for 2012 standards, but it's still addictive...however the problem is that is online-only, Blizzard is giving a crappy service with its servers and customer service and the main fun part (Auction House) is more often taken down and not working than working!

Given that even the most addicted customer would get sick quite quickly...

    My suggestion is:

    Don't buy.

You'll pay good cash for a mediocre game and the worst service you could think even in your nightmares. Moreover you'll not be able to play offline while Blizzard mess everything up with its demented Battle.net servers!!

Personally, I will give this game an absolute ZERO, not because it is bad, but to protest against the constant DRM, because if this game is successful and people accept the online DRM, then all the companies will adopt this method to protect their games and eventually the games industry will be filled with games that we will only be able to play as long as these companies support them. If you buy Diablo3 for the listed reasons and more then realize that none of the features listed are part of the game and the ones that are are very weak. Diablo3 is built around one thing and one thing only: Loot and the Auction House to trade that loot in fake money(gold) or in real money. Now when I started playing Diablo2 back in 2000-2004 those were the years I was studying accounting and management and it was possible for me to become involved in the real Wallstreet. I turned down that option soon after I realized it was a model based off of greed. Now 10 years later I am still playing video games and I am confronted by Diablo3 which has nothing good content wise in it. Diablo3 is a very bare bones game and it is probably meant that way so that people will turn to the only content available: the (real money) auction house. If I wanted to play a Wallstreet sim I would have just become a stock broker in the first place. Activision bought out Viventi in 2008 which owned Blizzzard so I guess Diablo3 is the first game to be produced by Blizzard Activision after its merger. Blizzard customer care is below any minimal acceptable level, and for an online game customer support is vital for the service itself. Currently the game is not accessible since many days, many players were not able to play it at all since they grabbed it, due to continuous server issues, and this happens now since more than 2 weeks. This is simply unacceptable. Beware if you are planning to buy this game, it's wise to wait and see if they finally will be able to fix they major server issues.

Blizzard customer service is not acknowledging the ongoing major fault on their servers, and sadly they don't come out to provide official statements and actions in progress.

Fact is: this is an online game, and you currently cannot access to it.

They milked millions of dollars and euros around the world knowing that customers just buy everything with a Blizzard logo on it.
This is sad, but this is true.

Game could have been fun, polished (and addictive you know), but they destroyed it being the game unplayable after 12 years of development, not even acknowledging the problem.

Gamers, there are several excellent alternatives upcoming out there, some are even free to play. If you buy a Porshe you are not just buying a brand, but a uber quality product. Let's start thinking that a Blizzard product it's no more a safe quality choice.

Well I have to be applaud Blizzard in all reality. From a business stand point it would seem like you're on the perfect track to make the shareholders at Activision very, very pleased.

You've taken a game with so much hype built around it, a game with a rabid and wildly large fan base, a game vaulting off of the massive success of the previous generation - and you've turned it into your sacrificial lamb.

I understand that WoW is dying. The cash cow that you have been able to depend on to fill your coffers is finally drying up. It had a great run. MoP is not likely to defibrillate the failing heart of what was once the WoW empire, and you know this. Starcraft 2, while an amazing game, cannot replace this cash cow - then again it wasn't meant to. How could it? Your business foresight is very, very attuned. Because of this you carefully planned your next chess move: Diablo 3.

What better way to birth another golden goose than to bank an entire game off of the most addictive part of what Diablo 2 was: the item grind. Pure brilliance. And so, from the ground up, you formed this game to be solely about item exchange - this would be the titan built to replace WoW's subscription based bankroll in the form of micro transactions.

    Except one thing: you're boring.

On May 15th 2012, after nearly a decade of anticipation, we were given Diablo 3! Except, it's not quite Diablo 3. It's a slimmed down, cut up version of the Diablo 3 everyone was taught to expect. Except, it wasn't given to us, we still had to pay you full price for it: $60.
So where's the beef? - some might say. The beef is that this is not Diablo 3, this is an imposter. A hologram. An artificial replacement. A lame duck substitute for what hype built it up to be. A cut up and slimmed down version of what should have been. In essence: a slaughtered, sacrificial lamb.

That leaves myself and thousands of others saying indeed, where is the beef? Blizzard's answer: there is no cow level. But hey, we got rainbows and unicorns!

Is anyone still in complete denial about how truly boring this game is or have people started to shake off the honey moon dust?

You eliminated enchanting, PvP, pet companions and other things from the release version so that you could market it as part of a later expansion for more money. (This is a trend in gaming that several developers have been following; withhold content you've been advertising for the past two years and charge a premium for it at a later date. I shouldn't have expected Activision-Blizzard to be any different, and that is my fault. I wrongly assumed this group was made of trend setters and leaders, not followers - so shame on me.)

You didn't include a single player mode because you can't make money off of people if they aren't using the AH in a multiplayer format. Less work for you in the development stages, and forces people to engage in the micro-economy that your bankroll is based on. Again, brilliance. Which leads me to my final point:

There is so LITTLE dynamic to this game I cannot believe it took this many years to create it. In fact, I don't. So why the long wait? I'll tell you: economic law.

More specifically, the legality and complications that stemmed from the idea of a multinational game built around a Real Money Auction House. This process, I imagine, took years to iron out - while the game itself probably took no more than a few actual working years to complete (and it truly shows).

It doesn't take an overly intelligent mind to figure WHY they would want to use a RMAH and get a cut of (a lot of) the transactions. That's fine. Here's the problem: you built the entire game around a pure gear grind, and then force that gear grind to revolve around the AH, specifically the RMAH. There is literally no other dynamic. When you build a game from a purely business stand point, you're not building a great game - and a great game this is not.

In conclusion, gamers, do you really want to spend your time on yet another slave-like gear grind? If so, eat your heart out. You'll find no better place to do it! If not, there are a plethora of other games out there much more deserving of your $60, I promise.

Diablo 3 was built around Activision's greed. Participate at your own will.

Gamers hold grudges and people aren't going to forget this disaster. If you obliterate your true fan base, the pillars of your success come falling soon after.

I give this post less than a few hours before it is deleted by Blizzard moderators. Can't have that bad flavor out there, can we? Truth hurts.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off since most people only read the first line I'll make my point clear: Avoid this game.

    Artstyle: 8 / 10

The art varies from person to person on how much they like it, and considering the scale of models and animations on screen I would like to say that this was fairly well done. There's of course some lackluster color palletes in some areas and overall I'm not a huge fan of the player-character designs. Not much to really say on this subject really.

    Design: 2 / 10

This is a rather long one to get into so instead I'm going to go over of some of the glaring issues which take the enjoyment out of the game: Diablo 3 has been largely designed around the Auction house, which is ironic since an application of an Auction House should prove be supplementry. Blizzard Rep's have even stated that drop rates were signifigantly lower as a result and that gameplay at higher levels will reuire the player to use the Auction House. This creates the "pay to win" scenario which becomes Diablo 3, witht he upcomnig release of the RMAH this will only become more aggrevating on players that are trying to be self sufficiant. Itemization is terrible, and the "legendaries" are nothing more than rare items *random terrible stats* with a different color for their name. This plagues the player to use the AH to find something that will help them progress, and is likely not an issue until hell / inferno modes.

Crafting is a high risk low return venture which i would pit on par witht he recent 38 Studios issues and Rhode Island. (RI Invested in a startup MMO, it went south.) Simply put its a wasted and bad investment.

Farming items and being excited about loot has become farm gold until you can buy what you want, or wait for thr RMAH and buy with with real money.

Online DRM for a game that is played largely as a single player since larger groups on higher settings are almsot impossible to play as. Stacked with having unstable and often laggy servers while playing alone leads to alot of player frustration wondering why they have to deal with lag while playing alone.

Several UI problems, both in game and extremly bad in the Auction house.

Auction house issues, having the functionality the game was built around down for hours on end, at this point the commidity auctions (gems, tomes etc) have been down for 11 days straight with no ETA on their return. Really shows the flaw with the AH being needed to progress and yet its unreliable. I'm beating a dead horse here when I saw that the Auction House's central focus point of the games oveall design has been the core of mose of the issues, which the other is largely in itemization.

Inferno mode is untested, Blizzard itself just took a random point and "doubled it" figuring this would provide a challenge, this however is an amateur move for a team of designers you would expect to have the common sense to check all the varibles without going into launch blindly. Inferno mode beings a kite fest or get one shotted, which is somewhat possible for some classes (albeit alot of deaths) to impossible for melee classes.

Enrage timers on Bosses in Inferno. Again, terrible design choices done by inexperience with the same heavy handed design found in WoW. Since the health and damage of enemies in Inferno is dreastically high with no testing, putting on enrage timer on a boss without knowing what a reasonably geared player's DPS should be is downright foolish.

    ========================

I'm going to cut it short there, theres several more issues as well but the point across is that there is a large amount of terrible design chocies in play and monetization of the game is the only thing working as intended.

I would highly reccomend people avoid Diablo 3 unless you are ok with "paying to win"

Horrible level design, unbelievably bad loot distribution, overwhelming disparity between range and melee, hacks and exploits all come together to ruin the sequel to one of the most loved pc franchises of all time. Right from the start of pre-ordering the game, I had to queue 6 hours just to collect a game i paid for months ago, i did not appreciate the fact distributors(Asiasoft) were making use of us as free-publicity / marketing stunt. While some may say this is not controlled by Blizzard, i say Blizzard shld pick better distributors. When I finally got home and tried to install, i had the "stuck at updating file issue" (great i can't even get the game to install). After spending additional hours of research, and getting the game installed, got the client up, clicked launch, and wow i got the "stuck at launching" problem. After another few hours spent researching on how to get past this problem, finally got into the game, played for a few minutes and bam ERROR 37. So after spending an arduous amount of time playing / dc-ing, i had a shock the game was over so quickly due to lack of content and reeled from the realization that the game wanted you to REPEAT the same thing another FOUR times to experience the entire content of the game. This was an extremely excruciating experience and i wish i could get a refund for purchasing a product like this. Probably the worst game i've ever spent money on and if you think FFXIV was bad, Diablo 3 brings "bad" to a whole new level. It is true when they say "all hell breaks loose on May 15", indeed, they just didnt say it was going to be on the ppl who bought the game in good faith. Expand

The game is simply terrible. I can leave aside all the technical issues like error 37, DRM, Auction House unavailability, lack of true single player, ... I can even leave aside the blatant FRAUD commited by Blizzard in the form of false advertising by not including major parts of the game such as PvP, not delivering a finished AH, ... I can leave all that aside and more because in the end Diablo comes down to one thing and one thing only: loot. People would have never continued playing Diablo II if it didn't have such a great loot system. It allowed you as a player to experience the thrill of finding great items, but still made you work hard for it. There was a good balance, and even casual players could enjoy some of the more exclusive items every now and then. Blizzard has done away with this in favor of their money making scheme, the AH. However, they neglected the fact that the very heart of Diablo was the thrill of the items. I do have to add that a great factor contributing to replayability was the skill system. For example you could try to create characters that were a little more wacky or excentric but powerful in their own way. This, too, has been eliminated because every Barbarian of lvl X equals every other Barbarian of lvl X. No idea which idiot came up with that... Blizzard, Diablo was about the fun of hacking down monsters, the thrill of the items, and also, a little work. A little work put in by the player that gave you pride in the end. Meaning that your character was strong because you made it strong. Now, because you've taken away all of these key ingredients, nothing remains of what was once your masterpiece. And that really is a damn shame. Expand

One can satisfyingly get 20-40 hours out of this game beyond that you either have a set of friends who is doing this together, or just have no life. Seriously even if your just wasting your time sitting in front of a PC why would you keep grinding on this game? Go play anything else. Torchlight I is far more fun to endlessly grind on than this game. Story - ya ya I'll quit the the $20.00 vs. $60.00 thing for this one at least. The story wasn't bad, yes it is cheesy, etc. but so was the story in D1 and D2 I think the reviews saying the story is bad are missing the boat. This is a little dungeon crawler game it isn't some expansive RPG that one would epect a supper compelling story in. Overall the story was adequate and I'll leave it at that. Auction House - It has been up and down so often, several times all my items simply dissapeared, etc. and the real money AH is still not out at the time I'm writing this review. The idea of the real money AH is as exciting as a bank asking me to "insure" my FDIC insured account ... for money ... the real money AH should only be exciting if you work for blizzard. Other than that it adds nothing to the game at all. I'm sure this cash scam will continue though and more companies will add more and more elements like this in the coming years. My lengthy opinion about the game ... read if you like but be warned this is just pure catharsis for me that is all: Where to begin. Diablo III indeed had perhaps unattainable expectations to live up to. Having well over a decade to wait fans had high hopes and expectations for this game and that has perhaps muddied the waters a bit out on the internet. There is much ranting about both how terrible this game is or the other side the standard blizzard fanboys are gushing as usual.

My biggest criticism is simply this. How D3 turned out in its entirety is fine, if it would have been a $20.00 budget range game I'd have not a single complaint, in fact I'd be giving it a glowing review. At the $60.00 pricepoint though this game is terrible and a poor value. Comparing this game to the other $60.00 range games you get so much less value. Go play Torchlight I and look at how the core of the game works, I'm assuming that Torchlight II will actually be superior to Diablo 3 in pretty much every way. Those games are in the $20.00 price range. Don't interpret my focus on price to mean I'm a cheap gamer or poor. I spend several thousand dollars a year on games, I have no problem paying $60.00 for a game and do it routinely. I simply categorize games by price, the more you charge me the higher my expectations are going to be. This game is a minor league baseball game at a major league price. It is not worth $60.00 and as blizzard never really reduces the prices of their games ... so you can't wait and buy this later at a lower price and there is another beef I have with blizzard.

I bought the game, I put in 40ish hours and I feel I basically ground my monies worth out of the game but it wasn't a good value for me at all. I played 2 characters (Barb and DH) up to 60 and am so sick of the game I don't care how awesome the expansions are or how cool the promised PVP is ... there is nothing that could pull me back to it. Thus I've uninstalled the game and given it to a friend who I strongly urged not to waste money on it. As for the story, etc. I'd challenge anyone with real complaints about that to go back and play D2 (almost no one could do that these days it is such a dated game now) and look at the story there or in D1. What story? Some cheesy Dungeons and Dragons campaign idea converted into a video game. This isn't an epic literary work, it is mindless video game junk. Why do people even get uppity about story in a game like this? This is a little dungeon crawler, about hack and slash and loot ... period ... the story was as good as one should expect for a game like this.

Blizzard should be ashamed. Of course they won't be because this terrible game broke sales records and that seems to be the only thing they care about recently. I get that this is a business and all but I would rather give my money to game companies that give half a crap about their customers. Damn Blizzard and damn D3. I will never give them another dollar. If you are looking to try this game I would suggest looking up private servers, yes, there are already several up. Expand

This game is just terrible. It is basically Diablo 2 with some better graphic, nothing else. There is no thinking required in this game. It's just clicking the mouse all the time, which makes me wanna sleep every time I play for more than 10 minutes. I recommend everyone who wanna buy this game to save your money on something worth its price, such as the new Dragon's Dogma which is a 10This game is just terrible. This is a serious and objective review from a person who played many pc games.
First of all: connection problems. Worst service (even after a month since release!!!) of many online games I played - GW, WoW, Diablo2, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, FPS shooters(Quake, Unreal, Counter-Strike), Starcraft 1 and 2... you name it.
Graphics - far too bad for a 2012 game! Sound effects - decent.

Graphics - far too bad for a 2012 game! Sound effects - decent. Music - bad and repetitive. Gameplay is about decent the first three difficulties. The last difficulty is very boring. Players need to collect gold for hundreds and hundreds of hours to be able to progress. Then they spend it in an Auction house where they buy item upgrades for their hero. In Diablo 2 players were progressing on their own with just a bit of trading. In Diablo 3 good item drops are extremly rare - like 1 to billions chance to get such an item yourself so the Auction House does not get flooded. Logical, yes, but it turns the game to Auction House manager, where players farm gold the whole week and then lie for a day or two in front of their PC, scanning the millions of deals, hoping for a fair upgrade. So dumbed down. This takes all the pleasure from the item hunting which made Diablo 2 such a great and replayable game.
Skill system cannot be more broken. Everyone ends up using the same skill setup. Scarcity of good items forces them to do so. Many GREAT features (it will take more than an hour to list them and you to read them) from Diablo 2 were just cut from this game. 10 years in development and we get this?! What a shame. I wont even mention the Real Money Auction House where players give real $ to Blizzard. Pay to Win! Take this from a serious Diablo 2 player - do not touch this game it will dissapoint you badly. Enjoy other games.

I paid to beta test this game. Its broken. They screwed up the one main focus of the game which is loot drops. How they did this is fascinating to me. I give this a zero because of that. There's no excuse for it and I'm sick of taking it up the A from Blizzard.

The game took too long to come out. The Always online fiasco was more for the AH than piracy. Blizzard missed the point on this game. People didn't want a "WOW" style clone with Diablo themes, they already have that in World of War Craft. I understand that MMORPGs can't be played offline for the most part. Keep it simple and intuitive, this is Diablo not Warcraft. This was the wrong direction to take the Diablo franchise. I don't doubt that Blizzard will make money off this game. It's like they aren't listening to the fans when they speak out. Expand

I have played through the game on normal and now in nightmare and can honestly say it's the biggest waste of time and literally not much fun at all. I could have more fun painting my wall a new colour than with this game. I bet the later difficulties are challenging but seriously it's not fun. Just a load of drilling enemies, and even if you die you can spawn again and take them on again.I have played through the game on normal and now in nightmare and can honestly say it's the biggest waste of time and literally not much fun at all. Okay items makes it interesting but not until you realise there's an auction house for all the money you have so you can just buy amazing items and not die. This game is stupid and I hate it. Expand

This gets a zero for the terrible story. Metzen went through the motions and churned out an incredibly flawed plot that made any Diablo fan squirm in their chair. My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
