Add FFXII-like annoying characters in Ava, the twins and Typhon, unskippable cutscenes, annoyingly OP anointed enemies (yet no twitch streamers are calling for nerfs to these), writing on the level of Game of Thrones season 8, and an endgame mechanic (Mayhem Mode) which just isn't fun (and even though it wasn't fun in the first place, it got nerfed) - and you have an extremely disappointing sequel to what is probably my favorite series of all time.

The only positive is that some maps are quite fun (particularly low-grav maps). I doubt I will ever play the DLCs that I've already paid for.

This is a solid game and if you liked Borderlands 2 you will like this one. It has some performance problems and is rough around the edges such as the occasional random crash along with cut scenes not working properly on wide screen monitors.

Needs more polish which I'm sure it will get over time.

Also FOR THE LOVE OF GOD make the the cut scenes skippable after the first run through!

I used to be a huge fan of the Borderlands series, so what changed? well, for one, the writer, once funny humor has now become cringy, repetitive and predictable puns and low brow jokes we've only heard 16times before from the same series.

The storyline is absolute Garbage, with little to no player agency and every plotpoint is created by a literal Deus Ex Machina from some Siren power (essentially space magic) You lose nothing by turning the dialogue volume to 0 and instead look at the nice scenery.
The gameplay has improved over serious titles, shooting is fun, unfortunately Gearbox seem bent on crashing the one train still running, every hotfix comes with new nerfs, Instead of balancing the game by making other things stronger they destroy every fun build the players have created.... in a PVE game. I heartily wish I hadn't spend money on this, and I can't recommend anyone else buys it.

    Straight to the point.
What does this part bring? A lot of additional gameplay. Parkour, mechanics with machine guns, all this is wonderful, this is what was missing in 2 parts. There are no questions about this. But here is the story .. Prove it. The main villains - mannequins, compared to the handsome Jack from bl2 - are horror, the old heroes are not revealed, and the storyline itself is ****

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is a bad point, it becomes repetitive in some points and what I liked most was how they managed to evade it including a great variety of enemies.
there is a part in which the same game can be repetitive, but they managed to prevent it from becoming this way thanks to the large number and variety of enemies that are everywhere.
the story is not the best nor the villains the best that have been seen (Handsome Jack left a difficult position to fill) the outcome of each character to my liking was fine. The stories told by the great Typhon can not be missed and especially because of the importance of this character for the outcome.

The different zones in the game are a crap shoot on quality. Most of them are beautiful in their own way, but it's obvious some were designed on a budget, in a rush, and with the intention of feeding you through a specific area. They are suppose to be in the "open world" be are really just outdoor dungeons.

Shifting gears, after I completed the story for the first time I sat for a good two minutes with my mouth wide open. Not because it was amazing mind you, but because I couldn't believe I had waited 7 years for this steaming dung pile — I'm being generous. The main story in Borderlands 3 feels like the musings of sophomores just introduced to critical theory and trying intently to weave it into their favorite fan fiction.

Characters make asinine decisions, the plot is driven by idiotic motivations, and you, the supposed hero of the story, are agentless, if not completely excluded, from the majority of the important parts of the story. You don't matter. Very little you do matters. And in the end, you don't matter at all.

This is especially true if you're a straight male. The writers went out of their way to exclude straight men from the main story. Save for brief involvement with a couple of characters, the majority of the men you interact with will either be evil or idiots. The main cast will be dominated by female characters who seem to have forgotten their male peers from the last two games.

This is critical theory at work in the gaming industry. Women, minorities, LGBT+ are "oppressed" and therefore the Social Justice Warriors must "right" the "injustices of oppression" by "empowering oppressed peoples", especially at the expense of the "oppressor". Logic, audience, and story be darned. Don't get me wrong. I think having meaningful, empowering, and main roles for female characters is a good thing. But not when it's done at the expense of a compelling story, deliberately excluding numerous characters who are natural additions to the story. Again, if you think this is being "over sensitive", you need to read up on what critical theory is and how it's being implemented in our culture today.

A game that use to pride itself on being anti-PC is now a sermon on political correctness. The main story feels like it was written by a team of interns as a college project, but the game play is phenomenal. If you can ignore the main story (the side stories are where the charming Borderlands humor still resides) then you can squeeze some enjoyment out of this game.

*My score has nothing to do with the game-play, story, characters, or the **** that followed EPIC and GEARBOX and Randy. It's solely on my experience with the performance of the game from launch to now. I'd honestly give this game a 8, maybe 7 overall.*

So, after that, I have been plagued with constant crashes. Also, for some reason my GPU just goes "nope!' and I would either have to force a restart or complete shutdown. This is the only game i've had that kind of crash with. My PC can handle the Rec. Specs..

    CPU: 8700k
    GPU: GTX 1070
    RAM: 32GB
    HDD: 2TB, 512GB SSD
    OS: Win10 64bt

I get between 1-3 hours before I get this crash. I've tried every "fix" out there aside from reinstalling Win-10. Switching from Windowed to full-screen, closing third party apps, rolling back drivers/updating drivers to latest, Updating Bios, lowering graphics. The score will stand till a actual patch comes and hopefully deals with the problems. It will change based on if things get fixed.

I've never had a single problem like this with any Borderlands game from 1 to the Pre-sequel.

    ****Edit****

So after a patch, I have noticed that I have not been crashing like it used to. I may get an occasional stutter or a little lag with menus, but other than that, the game runs well enough with what I have.

Game play - Almost like any looter/shooter, the guns do feel much better than Previous games, Each brand does feel unique and there's a lot of variety, hopefully it will spawn many builds, and not just a couple "meta" builds for each class. A majority of Legionaries are not tied to a certain boss, and can be world drops, either in random loot or just random enemy. You can still farm certain bosses to get loot as well as some endgame stuff. The 4 classes we have (At launch, slim possibility that they might add more vault hunters, not guaranteed) Do feel different from each other and should have great synergy when builds/loadouts are more refined.

The scaling is actually really good, compared to what we had in BL2 with the ridiculous amounts of health/shields and damage for both players/enemies. It's found a good point where you're not reliant on set weapons/shields/grenades/classmods or your not gonna have fun. (I was able to use a LV17 legendary pistol till about 30)

Story - I'll keep this short, it's not amazing. I mean there will be jokes and stuff that people will either laugh at and enjoy or just cringe and sigh. Things could've been developed better and some things should've been fleshed out better. Oddly enough, some of the side missions do have better dialogue than the main story.

Performance - A game this anticipated should have not launched in this state. I can understand PC being a bit harder to optimizing because of the vast amount of hardware to account for, but the PS4/PS4 Pro and XboxO/Xbox OX did have a bit of trouble as well.

Graphics - Game looks beautiful. I'm able to enjoy the game on 1080p High settings with average FPS of around 75-90 with dips to 60(when toooo much is going on)

I know they still got plenty to do to make the game great for all. More patches, buffs, nerfs, and when the DLC comes out, hopefully it will add more to the story and make it much better. With everything I've went through and what I've played currently my new score feels justified to me. Get this game if you want to, it's not a must own but if you're a fan of Borderlands and Looter/shooters in general. Probably get it on a sale. Or wait till April when the paid beta is over. XD

Gearbox went so wrong in this. 5 steps forward, 4 steps back. From the different voice actors, to different writers, to leaving huge plot holes from the previous games, how could the critic reviews possibly give this more than a 5.

The bank has a bug in which wipes everything. I had 10 anointed legendary and 40 legendary. All gone. 40 hrs worth of farming is gone. Good job borderland.
Inventory is just stupid. Don't know how they coded it but frame drops like crazy. I actually lag when I open inventory and I have really good gig (I7-8700, 16gb ram, 2060 6gb). Like game actually freezes during inventory.

I have also had zero technical issues with the game to this point.

After finishing the game and starting another playthrough, I can definitely say the game itself is better than BL2, but the STORY isn't as good, and part of that is because the villains are nowhere near as good as Handsome Jack. The overall dialogue is also not as good as BL2. I am also not thrilled with how some of the old characters are treated in the story, but as far as the game itself, it's still excellent overall.

Dropping my score from a 9 to an 8 because the story and characters were always a big component of what I liked about the Borderlands games, and while I still think BL3 makes the story in games like Destiny look like a joke, the story/characters/dialogue (and how old characters are treated, as I said before) are not up to par with Borderlands 2, even if everything else is better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. PC Player here, wanting to chime in. A quick summary...I did not enjoy this much, and would recommend you find something else to fill your time.

I had played Borderlands 2, and was intrigued by the gameplay and general story leading in to Borderlands 3. I know the story wasn't terribly strong in 2, but it was still decent enough, if very predictable. In 3, the story largely ignores the set up from the interim games, and is not just predictable, but skirts by predictable plot points by going for threads that are less predictable because they are so much weaker than what you could extrapolate on your own. Side quest stories are rather weak, and despite having a massive catalog of characters to choose and utilize, they are all very two dimensional and have little growth. Don't worry about your own character's arc though; they'll never show up in any of the cutscenes (bar one, and they don't have any impact then) despite several cutscenes where they might have been able to make up for the "main crew"'s stunning idiocy in several scenes, or sudden loss of powers as the writers couldn't think of a way forward with the plot otherwise.

The 'humor' gets very grating as well, with several sections repeating the same joke until either you go insane, complete the quest (which drags on and on) or just turn off dialogue volume (a certain 'Escort npc' on the final planet comes to mind, as does a robot-woman making chimp sounds; it's not anywhere near as funny as it sounds). If not repeating the same joke ad nauseam, it's being drowned in every single aspect of the game going for 'wacky-kooky-silly' humor where everything is a joke, at which point the humor spreads into a thin boring mire that loses its lustre and drowns you in cringy outdated jokes and pop-culture references. Some characters are just paper-thin jokes that shoot guns, which can be done well when handled by more competent writers, but in Gearbox's hands are done a disservice (such as Aurelia Hammerlock, who apparently was a more fleshed out character in the interim games; here, she is "I am better than you because I am rich and you aren't" and "I'm an Ice-Cold **** (Because she's mean and uses ice powers, get it?) and that's about it for her character).

Enough of my complaints of how poorly written a bloody Borderlands game is, and on to gameplay! It's...alright. Gunplay is decent, but you'll often find you'll out-level areas really quickly if you do all the side quests in the zones as well as all the challenges which takes relatively little time. Enemies never get smarter than "wobble back and forth between open areas and partial cover", even towards the end of the game; they just get more bullet-spongy. Bosses are not much smarter, as they don't use cover due to their massive healthbars; only a couple use unique abilities, and even then it's largely the arena. Enemy scaling is all over the place, with areas sometimes scaling to your level to afford you a challenge and sometimes not (though this may just have been due to story purposes).

If you thought that having several planets to travel to now would make the world open up more, then I am sorry to say you have been misled. The world(s) are even more linear feeling than in Borderlands 2, though the terrible map might trick you into thinking otherwise. Mission design is rather plain, with practically every single one being "go to place and shoot the dudes", often contriving terrible reasoning for a quest to have dudes to shoot. Interfaces continue to be terrible, which they seem to not have learned from Borderlands 2. There is even a second interface you need to go to every now and then to receive extra powerful weapons, though most often you'll just end up selling them. Additionally, the interface will often bug out and swap equipment icons around, so you better be careful when selling items to make sure you don't actually sell something you wanted to keep-best to favourite every good item you come across the moment you find it, which means slowing down the 'fast-paced shoot and loot gameplay' even more than it already does itself. The game ends very poorly, with the only reward being a legendary (the game gives them out in spades) and the option to play it again but harder now.

As for stability, many people I talked to had issues with it crashing and bugging out, as well as frequent frame drops. Personally I lucked out, as I didn't have any frame drops aside from whenever I first loaded the game up or occasionally when zoning into a new area. I did have several other bugs though; a couple CTD's out of nowhere, as well as a bug where when I teleported into a fast travel point I was stuck and unable to do anything outside of fast travel elsewhere (though I was still stuck and needed to quit the game). I consider myself lucky on that front.

Overall, this game is not worth the dollars. Poorly written, poorly optimized/tested, an awful repetitive slog through a miserably bad story.

I personally think that the game is a 10/10, loved it and played the story out in 3 days!

If you love a crazy loot fun run and gun shooter pick this up!
This is my game of the year. Good Job Gearbox

This game has amazing gameplay, fun side missions, great boss encounters, and classic borderlands humor. Hours of fun, billions of guns, and a dlc roadmap that will see the light of day unlike other company's. Gearbox has out done themselves.

After two weeks of constant improvements most of the technical issues are no longer there. FPS is stable, scoping doesn't slow the game, etc. I'd recommend this game to fans and newcomers as well.

Borderlands was a great game with very weak plotline.
Borderlands-2 was a good plotlined game with very bad technical implementation
Borderlands-3 have a bad plotline, technical implementation... almost everything.

not only it's bugged as hell, it's spiced with Denuvo™ issues over it.

at this moment it's not worth to be played even for free, not talking about to spent money on it.

Of course, 3D design, graphiс, cars now is much better, than before, but in general, I regretted that I spent my time and money on this game.

Where is all Vault Hunters from Borderlands 2, and why aren't they the main characters in Borderlands 3? Where is The Watcher, Athena and Great War from The Pre-Sequel? Where is Fiona after TFTB ending?

You can enjoy it until the bugs in the game make it impossible. after the 30th bug half way through that I would call game breaking/game ruining. it just seems more like a chore. Personally, I think that Borderlands 2 is a game that got everything right. At least for me, I don't think it is too far to say that it is one of the best games of all time. Everything that Borderlands 2 has, is something that borderlands 3 lacks. Among many pacing storyline problems, the borderlands series has lost its voice.

Very little of the team that made borderlands 2 worked on this game. That includes the writer, director, and producers, and creative director. This clearly shows in how different the writing is, and how different everything feels. It makes me think that all of the good things about the series might have left with them, and only the drawbacks remain.

The story sucks. I think everyone can agree on that. More than that, the missions and level layouts feel incredibly contrived. Almost every mission boils down to "clear the area of enemies for no reason other than this is a video game". The bosses feel like bags of meat, and the overuse of invulnerability is often frustrating.

Puntos positivos: Más armas, nuevas mecánicas de movimiento, historia entretenida, más personajes carismáticos, buenos chistes, mejores gráficos, nuevos modos de disparo, frenético a más no poder. Es todo lo que necesitaba.

Personally I never dropped below 60fps on Ultra at 1440p with my RTX 2070.

In terms of gameplay I wasn't sure what to expect but I would most liken it to 'Destiny', in terms of other games that I have played personally. Explore, find secrets and treasure, kill waves of enemies, smash the bullet-sponge boss (I don't mean this in a bad way - attack patterns and 'weak points' also play a big part) and collect the phattest loot!

Visually the game is one of the best looking titles out there. The cel-shaded art style is brought to life by incredible lighting and fog effects, etc. Everything looks crisp and colours simply pop. Fantastic.

The audio is right up there too. Incredible soundtrack (some licenced tracks too), atmospheric ambience and great 3D positioning. Not once did I feel a sound came from somewhere it shouldn't have.

Fans of the series have probably picked up this game regardless, but for those who haven't looked at the Borderlands series before, there's no better time to jump straight in :)

Furthermore, sure the game play is the classic Borderlands game play with not much changing aside from mayhem modes and tvhm being available at launch rather than part of an expansion. New guns, new fire modes for certain weapon manufacturers, new weapon specials. It's everything Borderlands 2 was with all of its expansions and then some. Everything is fresh and while it stays true to its roots without taking any risks (which for some isn't enough) it's still highly enjoyable. I could care less about a story line in a shooter, especially one that is a loot-shooter. I'm here for the gear upgrades and the guns. Besides, it's the only loot-shooter on the market that does it right. I got exactly what I paid for, Borderlands. The overall reviews of the critics have it right this time. The users are a bunch of butt-hurt ibuypower pc buying neckbeards.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me say first that the game has a lot of potential in the future and that I don't believe it should be bought as of right now. The game in its current state as of 9/25/2019 is quite a buggy mess, hell, if you join an online game and the connection isn't stable enough driving straight is literally impossible because vehicles will curve left to right. Gun play feels good, but classes like Amara don't feel as strong as they should be in the end game whether it be because of higher tier enemies having too much health or Amara just doing too little damage even with optimal builds on Mayhem 3. While on the topic of the end game, there isn't much of one right now. There is no raid boss like Terramorphous once you beat the game, but there's a "Proving Grounds" which throws mobs at you for awhile and has a relatively weak boss at the end. I don't expect this to stay this way though, I believe there will be quite a few raid bosses in the future. There also isn't an UHVM or OP levels, but OP do somewhat come in the form of Mayhem levels after you beat the game which is fine. Another annoying thing to deal with in TVHM specifically is annointed enemy spam. Most of the anointed enemies are fine, but one in particular that makes it almost completely unenjoyable is the anointed militant which is immune 80% of the fight (this CAN be mitigated with Amara's phasegrasp though, but I don't think having to change my build around one enemy justifies it).

    TL;DR as of 9/25/2019
    Game is buggy right now
Not much to do after completing story on TVHM aside from farming legendaries
Some characters' optimal builds feel a little weak on Mayhem 3 compared to others
Anointed militants in TVHM kill the flow of the game

If you don’t really care about story and are just looking for fun gameplay and exciting loot, this game will be a fine addition to your collection. However, for those looking for a deep and interesting narrative, you will likely not enjoy this. I find the story and characters lacklustre compared to both other games and previous entries in the series. But, if gameplay is all you care about, this game will be one of your favourites.
Of course I cannot ignore the elephant in the room; this game has released in a frankly poor state. The game is plagued with bugs and from what I’ve heard, co-op is almost unplayable. In this day and age, games should not be releasing like this, but here we are. I’m frankly quite disappointed with gearbox for this but hopefully they will fix up the game in the coming weeks to make it a more enjoyable experience.
Overall, I would say that borderlands 3 is an enjoyable experience that may not have fully lived up to its hype, but is a solid game nonetheless.

Gamers exchange the world over can rejoice as the long-awaited new chapter in the Borderlands saga has arrived with Borderlands 3. The game takes place after the events of Borderlands 2 and the Telltale series of games which cast players as one of four new Vault Hunters who seek to find one of the Great Vaults which have been the main objective of the prior games in the series.
The four new characters break down as follows…

Amara the Siren, FL4K the Tracker, Moze the Gunner and Zane the Operative.

Characters have unique abilities which can be adjusted as the game unfolds as players will gain skill points to allocate to various abilities as they level up throughout the game. Each character has a special ability that is deployable after a certain amount of time and really can turn the tide of battle. Moze for example can deploy a mechanized unit known as an “Iron Bear” which is capable of unleashing a devastating arsenal of bullets, rockets, flames, and increased protection which makes it ideal when taking on some of the bosses in the game.

One of the new features in the game aside from being able to have better ability to mantel or destroy cover objects is a greater range of destructible containers which helps turn the tide against the relentless and overwhelming numbers that players can face.

Well I played a significant chunk of the game on my own; the game does allow up to four players to play with one another and this came in very handy during a couple of battles Where I simply did not have enough firepower to complete it on my own.

There were some frustrations with the matchmaking system which did not allow me to select games to join and I was basically dropped in blind to games near my character level. This caused me to have to repeat a mission multiple times and then endure having to re-do the mission I needed help with three times due to various glitches and crashes.

Further complicating matters was that in joining a game blind, that now became the jumping off point for continuing my game. It took a little bit of searching to find one roughly where I had left off; so I could continue on.
The key for me turned out to be asking for assistance from players on my friends list as well is those who were listed on my recent contact sessions.

The game tasks players to go up against Twins who have started a Cult as they attempt to unlock the Great Vault and use the power to control the galaxy and kill all those who oppose them.
As anybody who is played any games in the series knows; there are all manner of enemies and creatures for players to battle as well as vehicles and NPC characters to help out and move the story along.

This time out players have a spaceship called Sanctuary which allows players to venture away from Pandora and experience several other planets in the Borderlands Universe. Each planet has its own unique look and bio system ranging from a Louisiana style swamp location to high-tech cities as an example.

The graphics in the game are absolutely stunning in the amount of detail is simply breathtaking to behold. The level of detail in something as simple as a mansion is worthy of just walking around having a look were it not for the numerous things trying to take you out. The game has incredible amounts of loot that players can accumulate which can be used for various upgrades. 2K and Gearbox promote that there are over 1 billion weapons available in the game which leads to some really difficult choices as to which ones players keep, discard, or placed into storage.
While one may offer a bigger punch; it may be slow to reload, have limited ammunition, and increased accuracy. There is definitely a lot of experimentation that goes on and the same is true for the skills tree which even after completing the game is still fairly open which will entice me to go back and complete side quests while I wait for the DLC and maximizes the potential of my character.
The game is exceptionally long which is not a bad thing save for a couple of times when I thought the game was wrapping up only to be signed more back-and-forth or other missions to advance the story. This is not a bad thing as the universe is incredibly immersive but I found myself eager to see what the outcome of the story was rather than what seem like a series of missions designed to extend gameplay.

That being said; Borderlands 3 was hands-down the best gaming experience I have had this year and is an early contender for game of the year award despite the glitches and matchmaking frustrations that hampered some of my enjoyment of the game.

Start to finish I was absolutely captivated by the game and I’m eager to go back in and experience more of this incredible universe as I look forward to the free and paid updates that are coming soon which will hopefully keep me satisfied until the next chapter in the series is released which hopefully will not be as long a wait.

Borderlands, though, is a problem. I love the Borderlands series. Have all the games, all the expansions, etc. But in every single instance, I've only played couch co-op with friends or my wife. B3 has all but nuked that ability by making a terribly split screen experience.

The game is great. We love the graphics, characters, etc. But we're about ready to stop playing and we haven't even finished the first area. "What does that say?" is a question I hear constantly from my wife - and we're playing on a 70" screen. The horizontal split has things so wide we also can't play for very long before one or both of us get motion sickness. Opening menus is a great way to take a break since you can't really both do things at the same time. (We use it as an excuse to check our phones or go to the bathroom.)

I'm sure the lag problems (and assorted bugs) will be sorted out. But the horizontal split screen has got to go. Gearbox have already said that there were "no plans" to do a vertical split screen option and it's just a shame. I can't even imagine what it must be like on a smaller TV.

So, great game, fun gameplay. Decent loot (as always) but this might be the first game we give up on in split screen. Time to buy another PS4?

I've played 3 of the 4 classes only Siren hasn't been tried, and my only complaint here is that Moze's cooldown is wayyy longer than either Flak or Zane's, and the mech when being used in a huge gunfight seems to deplete very fast until upgraded VERY HEAVILY in the skill tree.

Lets move on to the Meh, what hasn't really changed in a good or bad way. The environment to start isn't anything jaw dropping from my experience here, there are open world pockets put into what felt like a hallway (Pandora did feel much more open world then any of the other planets which suffered from "Hallway syndrome") where your character is constantly being strung along to help the story progress. This isn't horrible but honestly if felt more mind numbing then any Borderlands prior, due to these horrible cons.

The bad. Characters are boring/annoying/Don't fit in with their previous role in the series. Very few characters do not fit into one if not more of these statements.
The AI. I really haven't seen people complaining about this but for a borderlands game i felt these Enemies moved around horribly. I played entirely single player and when I'm down without a npc my only chance of revival is the second chance mechanic. The problem being 80% of the enemies will literally run far away from you and hide behind cover, what?!?! In prior games I've never felt so frustrated with getting downed and having to try to strategically play so when i'm about to die i'm right next to an enemy so i can not be screwed. The 20% that do move towards you are Badass or fanatic type enemies that if you haven't already been dumping clips upon clips into you have no chance of killing them due to the next big wtf.
Your FFYL timer is also a health bar? so you can get nuked and die in your chance to revive in like 2 seconds.. And the only enemies near you will do high amount of dmg or the little dudes are hiding.

I didn't have many bugs/ performance issues to comment on, Played on a RTX2070 with a I7-7700k on release day until this review. smooth 60 fps at 1080 on high details. wish this was eveyone's situation but it inst. Also weird note the cut-scenes are at 30fps locked, so whenever starting one there would be slight fps problems for like 5 seconds until it was running smooth 30 for the cut-scene, then some more problems for 5 seconds then smooth 60 fps gameplay.

Pure and simple. This is more Borderlands! Don't expect a ground breaking evolution of the series, just enjoy an improved version of the same best fun you've experienced before. I'm really enjoying Borderlands 3 after 6 years in development and I think most Borderlands fans will as well. Enjoy yourself!

Buggy, broken and boring, seems like alpha, not full release. Maybe it's good that it's not on steam - less people will be disappointed in how the franchise ends.

i would not recommend buying it in it's current state. it's has CLEARLY been rushed. i don't have anything negative to say about the epic store directly, but it would sure have been nice to have the option to leave reviews on the platform itself. also epic will not support cross platform play with steam.

my advice, wait till it comes out on steam if you want to play with friends. if solo just go take a visit to pirate bay.

Borderlands 3 is great, why? It's more Borderlands, but with vastly superior graphics, gun play, weapon design, locations, and Jesus, dot even get me started on the loot. Yes, the writing is cheesy, but that's what Borderlands has always been. I highly urge you to go back and either play or watch some Borderlands 2, and you'll notice that besides for Handsome Jack the writing has mainly stayed the same. Borderlands hasn't changed, you have.

As for the main villains, the Calypso Twins, yes, the villains are cringe and nowhere near to being as cool and charismatic as Handsome Jack, but that's to be somewhat expected when you created arguably the greatest video game villain of all time. I thought it was a pretty interesting concept the writers took with making Troy and Tyreen streamers who are on their 15th cup of coffee an second line of coke after four years of sleep of not sleeping. My issue is that Calypso Twins lacked that classic serving of Borderlands' parody that the series is so well known for. Instead, it felt like a bunch of suits shouting buzzwords to try and make these characters appeal to a younger audience, *cough* "Like, follow, and obey" *cough*. This did make me sad because I really do like the concept and story that these characters have, but its overshadowed by corporate mumbo jumbo.

My biggest issue I have with this game is that the story, despite being good, it does not feel to me that Borderlands 3 has the replayability of Borderlands 2. Borderlands 2 I can look back fondly on and say that I loved going back to replay the campaign on all six characters, in 3 I honestly don't think I can entirely say the same. I did my first play-through solo, and will be doing my subsequent 3 with friends, so I can shoot the **** as I mow down CoV and Maliwan goons.

Overall I had a fun time playing the game, I enjoyed the story, and loved the loot. Whilst not packing the same punch that Borderlands 2 managed to, its successor did a damn good job. Solid 8/10.

If you want to feel like a badass, exploding, shooting, beating the crap out of people, this is the game for you, and so are all the previous borderlands games. Borderlands 3 feels like borderlands 2, but better and newer, which is exactly what i wanted, borderlands 2 but with a new story, and new things to do.

I would recommend this to everyone who loves 1st person shooter games, as borderlands offers something unique to it, something that other 1st person shooter games dosen't. And im sure they will keep making new content for the game in a long time, as they did for borderlands 2.

Like many other Borderlands fans, I'm quite disappointed in BL3. I had high hopes for the same hi-jinks and hi-octane over-the-top action in previous games unfortunately it doesn't quite capture the same spirit as the previous games. I would have pretty much no-lifed the game to reach the cap quickly but this one, just hasn't captivated me or even me much drive to play!

I would have pretty much no-lifed the game to reach the cap quickly but this one, just hasn't captivated me or even me much drive to play!

Other problems include the excess and paranoid DRM also terribly shady business practices coming from GearBox and 2Kgames also is a major concern here too, others have touched on these points so I'll rather not write an essay on this but its pretty bad. Another major issue is the rather absurd "professional" reviews again once again, providing gaming journalism is corrupt and unethical.

    Loot

One of the problems is the loot, and how it drops - in the previous games almost always you could tell outright if you had found an upgrade, but in BL3 that isn't exactly apparent anymore and to make matters worse, most of the battles are completely interrupted with the typical loot hauling and spending several minutes looking through everything in the hopes of finding any upgrade, basically a billion different weapons but 99% of them suck it seems.

    Bosses

Boss fights are typically over the top, some of them are way over the top but in the wrong way with high difficulty or having gimmicks and patterns otherwise you'll have a tough, tough time beating certain ones, or simply not having a specific elemental weapon - kilovolt boss fight is a prime example here, and even then - you're not even guaranteed an upgrade even after winning.

    NERFS

A major problem has been recent nerfs, especially to drop rates which effectively limit farming significantly, in a game that prides itself on loot - any major and significant nerf to loot drops is going to be met negatively.

    BAD co-op/matchmaking

The co-op feature is terrible, absolutely terrible to a point I don't even bother joining with randos. Imagine some of the co-op problems of the previous games, basically play with friends only on this one folks.

    General personal issues

Feels very linear at times, and whilst the maps are huge...there literally isn't nearly enough fast travel so quite often your forced into backtracking and wasting significant time which adds unnecessarily tedium at times.

Basically, Borderlands fans will either really love this, or be disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. to say the least. They were more annoying side bosses than main villans. They've had years to do this game right and it feels half baked. Cash grab even. Every story mission I got the sense they crammed as much of a fight to stall the storyline because they themselves knew there was no substance. It was always feeling like a stall. The usual business like most of the time I agree which is familiar like a Borderlands game but once I finished the story I lost all desire to continue playing. Once I managed to force myself to continue I hit the level cap and again realized that the balance in mayhem mode is a mess and don't get me started on boss battles. The one boss being stuck inside a building and him teleporting constantly right next to me led to some serious loss of funds I had to change my tactics over and over until I managed to use a corrosive weapon in a door way going across over and over wearing him out. The other bosses seemed weak repetitive and boring. For a game that's had this much time to get it right I am genuinely unhappy with the results and if there's ever another title I will more than likely hesitate to pre order. Hopefully the dlc reclaims my enjoyment in the game and bring in new vault hunters that aren't copied from previous or neutered by today's standards of gender. It's a video game don't make it political. Fix your problems. Mindless violence in games are epic but not when they are forcing it down your throat in a boring repetitious manner that leaves a bad taste just playing. It's a popular game and I'm sure there are others just as disappointed! Expand

Very demanding for a game that doesnt look anything near as good as gears 5 (built on the same engine)

My biggest problems are the crashes to desktop (happens in both api's) and the game breaking quest bugs

    1) bosses disappear and I cant progress (had to restart)
    2) quest map arrows get mixed up (points me to the objectives on different quests)
    3) crashes to desktop (far too frequent for me, happens regardless of what API I use)
    4) 4 to 8 second 'freeze' (could have been network related due to denuvo nonsense), happened a few times

People seem to fall into two categories for this game

    1) people experiencing bugs
    2) people who have not had them yet

It's sad as what is there is legitimately fun, without the bugs I would give it an 8 out of 10

Really wish I had waited and read more user reviews instead of the cherry picked launch days reviews designed to showcase the game in the best light and sweep all of the bugs under a rug.

I am not trusting ANY launch day review that gave this game more than a 5 as it simply doesnt deserve more in it's current state.

This is one of the shadiest launches ever of a knowingly bugged product, e.g 'ship it now, fix it later'

It's like every character is CL4P-Trap! It's clap-track humor all through the game.

And the thing is, claptrap is really only funny in VERY small doses. He gets annoying really fast.

And while I could hardly put down BL1 or BL2, and binge-played both on release, I'm just not drawn to the game. It's not a bad game. It plays well. It has a lot of polish.

It's just not compelling. The story and enemies and motivation are just hopelessly mediocre.

And while we're on the subject, here's a problem that BL3 has that carries over from BL2.

In BL1, the player character was THE HERO. Yes, Angel was there to guide you, but Angel was a disembodied voice who couldn't do anything without you. But in BL2, the original BL1 characters are the heroes. The player character is just a go-fer, an errand-person, a hireling. Every step of the way, you have Roland and Lilith and the others talking to you like your child, "Way to go, Champ! Good job!" BL3 does the same, only now you have all the BL1 and BL2 characters as the heroes, and once again, it's "Hey, kid! You got promise. Here, go get me a hamburger!"

    Nah.

It'd be much better if the player character were alone, and were the lone hero, and the others kept out of it a LOT more.

    The Good:
The gunplay is solid, class progression feels satisfying and fun, visual design is still gorgeous and some characters are nicely written. New weapon/characters/overall mechanics are fun to use and decent side quests keep the chase for loot interesting and fresh and never feel forced or boring.
Activities and Engdame are great, keep the fun going and present more options to gear yourself.

    The Bad:
Most of the characters are dummies who tell 20 dumb jokes in a row and 1 good joke in the end of their pressence in the scene. Villians are terribly written, allthough the design and concept behind them is good enough to be somewhat entertaining. The humour is terrible across the whole game on 50 garbage jokes you get 1-2 good ones. Story is a flop, with absolutely unsatisfying ending and a spit in your mouth in general and especially in comparison to Borderlands 2, which at least had some sort of meaningful and decent paced events. Optimization is hot garbage, it is not acceptable to release a game that had been 7 years in production in a state like that.
    Microtransactions are coming.

Conclusion: Borderlands 3 keeps and refines its brilliant gunplay, reinforces class progression and design and enhances visual art style and presents you good amount of fun content and dozens guns and gear to loot, just like a good looter-shooter supposed to do. While the story, humour, characters feel choped in half in quality and downgraded in scenery, the game still provides you a good shooter experience and overall feels like a good time spent.

Maybe they are reffering to the DLC that is to be coming out, but that is not something I have a problem with, since they aren't "surprise mechanics." (Aka loot boxes). Shift keys are free from the various twitter pages, so that can't be it either. Will investigate more and have my pitchfork ready.

For my complaint, what the actual f*** is up with this DX12 beta nonsense. I mean the extra 15 FPS is great and all, but the initial load time is really an annoyance.

Finally, a neutral point. The jokes, they are somehow funny and unfunny at the same time, and I couldn't understand why. So I dug deep into my steam library and tried a little bit of Borderlands 2. Turns out, that game was just as funny/unfunny to me as an adult. This made me realize the jokes in the game are more of a nostalgia thing.

All-in-all if it weren't for the DX12 load times this game would be a solid 9 of 10.

Most annoying bunch of voice actors I have ever heard in a game and I have played too many to count. The optimization of the game is a mess, the dialogue is a mess, the fps on a 2080+6700k is barely 60 in fights at medium. I think Borderlands 2 was pretty good, although a lot of bad humour. The story is ok but taking the powers from Lilith is a mistake and there are just too many women on that damn ship. And please either change the voice of Claptrap or leave him out of the games. The game is fun when it works. I have a brand new computer with a r5 3600 and 5700. when first released i would easily get 100 - 120 fps on high settings. now i can barely keep it at 75 with 90 fps being the max. there are micro stutters when aiming down the sights and other various things that cause it. the game has crashed on me about 15 times basically once an hour or so. wish companiesThe game is fun when it works. I have 10 hours played which I realize isn't a huge amount, but I think enough that I know what kind of game I'm getting, and I don't want to wait too long to write a review to where it's past the point of helping most people decide if they want to pay full price so here we go:

First off I am certainly no fan boy of the BL series in general. I rented Borderlands 1 maybe once or twice, and have a whole 8 hours played on BL2 according to Steam. So this review is definitely for people who didn't play much of the other two games, and are sick of seeing other reviews say "If you liked the first two you'll like #3".

I expected to hate the humor and story but I really don't. Yes the humor is silly and light, but it definitely isn't awful. I am a 31 year old dad, so I like to think of myself as a full on adult, but I haven't found this humor juvenile or non stop poop jokes. It's really not as bad as other reviews are making it out to be. Nor are the villains. Again, I didn't play BL1 or 2 enough to be able to judge Handsome Jack, but the Calypsos are fine. The plot is a bit of a cliche trope, but it's enough to keep the excellent game play moving along. If you're wanting a game for excellent plot or characters, then go with Witcher 3 or something else.

The game play is great. Gun fighting is snappy and feels good. Visuals are nice and I have not experienced any technical issues that so many other people just give zeroes because of. I am also writing this a week after launch, so perhaps a lot of problems have been patched up. My only cons for the game would be the looting can start to feel a bit tedious, and in general bad guys can be a bit annoying with all the yelling they do over the communicator. I get that looting is a big pillar of the game, but opening chest/box after chest/box just for more ammo you don't need and

This game takes everything I enjoyed from the Borderlands series, improves upon it, and adds more - which is exactly what I expect from a sequel. Gun-play feels much more fluid and the auto collect of ammo, mantling, power sliding and superhero landing melee attack fit in well. The Ai has improved, the landscapes are beautiful and the ability to port directly to your vehicle or fast travel point from anywhere saves a lot of legwork. Many of the boss fights require tactics which is really enjoyable to work out.

I'm currently 20 hours into the game on PC and I haven't experienced any bugs or crashes or freezes. Nor have I seen 1 single microtransaction since they aren't in the game -and if they do come it will be for skins only the exact same as BL2.

I haven't bought a $60 dollar game in years because of games like this. I match the recommended specs in all but one category(CPU, i5 4690K to the recommended i7 4770), and yet I can't manage a consistent 60 FPS in 1080p on the lowest settings (I drop 10 FPS every time I aim down sights). They really haven't changed much to make it a different game from the previous installments.

At the very least, wait for some optimization patches, better yet, save your $60 and play the pre-sequel again.

I'm going to say that I like this game a lot. It's Borderlands, the series we all learned to love, and they even improved a few aspects of it. It feels like there are a lot more enemies in every area, but I also found that I died less, which means that the characters are a lot more powerful, and the guns do their jobs, which is killing things. I don't care about the controversy, so I'm just not going to mention it. There are bugs, I personally didn't get anything game breaking, really just some icons sticking around when they shouldn't, and some effects being weird, honestly it didn't bother me too much and I can totally wait until they are patched out. Another thing, I don't think my computer is particularly terrible, but I didn't get all new parts this year. so I wouldn't say it's a fantastically good computer, and my frame rate was fine. I got a few frames sticking, but they wouldn't stick around too long, and the game, for the most part, was smooth. Expand

Gearbox has a problem: the fantastic Borderlands 2 is too good to be beaten. But in the case of Borderlands 3, it is still more than a worthy successor. The filmmakers brought many pop-cultural references, maybe pushing too hard on how they want to be “modern”, but otherwise it's a great game again. [Issue#298]

Borderlands 3 offers a generous experience, with colourful characters, neat gameplay and a charming universe. Its formula, very close to that of the previous episodes does not revolutionize the show but its small new features bring a little freshness and the scenario makes us want to go to the end of the adventure. Its dynamism and nervousness make it a choice piece for adrenaline-ready FPS lovers and license fans.

The fun, humorous storyline, some great dialogue and theatrical accents of the diverse characters, beautifully varied locations and the same great gunplay that Borderlands is renowned for, means that Borderlands 3 becomes another must have title in the series.
