Bitiremedim.

I enjoy the unique atmosphere of this game: unique art style, irreverent tone. I like that it's not a constant-shooting, run and gun game. I'm interested enough to carefully watch my inventory of new items, always looking to update and improve guns and shields as soon as possible. So far the difficulty level at normal (intermediate) is about right for me, not too hard, not too easy.I enjoy the unique atmosphere of this game: unique art style, irreverent tone. It's not a complex game, so when you just want to divert yourself with a fun atmosphere and some gunplay, without having to think too much, this game is good for that. (If you're in a mood to think more about your game, then try something else like RDR2 or Cyberpunk 2077).

One of the worst games ive played this year and ive played ac odyssey/ shadow of tomb raider this year. Characters and writing is feminist and boring as hell. Devs force you to do boring side quests by level gating the (boring) main quests. Just avoid this.

3 years after release, and many minor bugs still on. This game is totally on line add DLC, never repair errors, bugs, crashes, some bad game designs. Loved B1 and B2, at least story, voice acting and characters are good, but not enough for good score.

    Pros:
+ It's more of the same Borderlands game play loop: If you like previous entries, you'll probably like this one, but if not, this isn't anything new to change your mind.
+ If you're into the gun-loot grind, it's can be fun. + It's the best one since Borderlands 2. + There were some pretty girls in the game. In cut scenes, I had a fun time finding the best camera angles to ogle

+ There were some pretty girls in the game. In cut scenes, I had a fun time finding the best camera angles to ogle the boobs and butts. To be 13 again...

    Cons:
    - The main villains are weak and uninteresting characters with a boring story line and motivations. Granted, this is not a game about the story, but Borderlands 2 showed you could have a much more interesting villain than this. These are just comically evil characters that do bad things because they need one-dimensional villains to move the plot forward. I could not skip through the CoV cut scenes fast enough.
    - I feel like I've grown out of the edgy humor and teenage angst portrayed in the narrative. It's more a con of me getting older.
    - I found the game very easy. I rarely died, and didn't feel like there was much skill or challenge in the fights. Point at the thing you want to die and hold the trigger; move forward and repeat. I barely used special powers or grenades because there wasn't much point.
    - Obnoxious DLC sales push. OMG, they are trying way to hard to sell you DLC in game with constant in-your-face reminders.
    - On PC, I had a few crashes. At one point I had to google how to restore a corrupted save game after one of the crashes.

Buying advice: If you're a fan looking for more Borderlands, this is fine. If you're new to the series, start with Borderlands 2, and come back to this if you want more. I'd pay $20 for the base game, but I'm not really interested in playing the DLC.

I don't understand either how on Earth this game demands so many resources (>= GeForce 1660, 6 GB VRAM for a game that looks like BL 1 ???) it still has screen tearing IF VSync is not set On and stuttering and un-rebindable keys. You morons, not every player uses the outdated WASD, SOME of them use TFGH (by far, superior to WASD!) with Y instead of E. In your crappy console-port Y is bound to Team Chat and cannot be unbound (and other keys too). Your game menus reek of putrid antiquated pieces of trashware scent, prev/next menu Z/C, LALT/CTRL, etc. Guys, you use to be PC gamers, what the hell is wrong with you, design your game having the keyboard and mouse in your minds, not that despicable device ever invented by man, the putrid controller. The PC is the most fascinating, reliable and powerful device invented by man, the keyboard has TONS of buttons to play with (not like that putrid and despicable controllers!), the mouse has pinpoint accuracy (and if it's a gaming one, well, hooah soldier!), its parts can be changed, interchanged, upgraded (if you like hardware tinkering!), the PC is FREEDOM OF GAMING AND MIND. Yet, you cling to those antiquated pieces of trashware AND you have the nerve to ask afterwards *very* powerful resources/rigs for a game which looks like its 2010 version (with small differences in lighting, some textures here and there, some shadowing, etc. *barely* noticeable in a fast-paced shooting).
    The Season Passes
The Season PassES, because yes, His Illustrious Grace Gearbox pulled this card on the table, with *multiple* ones.
This is by far, one of the most despicable business practice very similar to that of pre-ordering games. It's like paying whores multiple times in the brothel *before* "engaging" their Blazkowicz services. This despicable practice needs to die in miserable pain along with all developers that implement it. Until now, only His Pandoran Excellency Gearbox pulled this card on the table, I *really* hope that other developers will not follow this putrid scent.
Once upon a time on Earth, if a game had been successful, it would have been followed by an expansion; nowadays they have the guts to ask in advance for their **** and also to be paid in advance for their **** extra private dances, because, you know, if there is a game, it has to be a DLC too.
Lets now take a look at their older DLCs successes through the eyes of a game considered successful by some *very* vocal players (on youtube, flexing and showing-off how cool they are in killing some bosses on overpowered levels +72 ->80).
What statistics say for Borderlands 2:
    1. "Better Than You Were" Reach level 10. Only 67% of players achieved this. That means 1 in 3 players gave up quite early.
    2. "Always Improving" Reach level 25, 40% of the players. Which also means that 6 out of 10 did not bother.
    3. "Cool Story, Bro" 32% of players, that means only 1 in 3 players bothered to finish the main campaign only.
    4. "Capped Out... For Now" Reach level 50. Only 17.3% of players, that means only 3 out of 17. 14 of them went to greener pastures.
    5. "Thresher Thrashed" Terramorphous the Invincible killed, 11%, that means only 1 in 10 players bothered with it.
    6. Completionist Completed all Pirate's Booty DLC side missions. 2.4% of players.
    7. Done That Completed all Hammerlock's Hunt side missions. 1.9% of players, I wonder what other 98 out of 100 players did.
    8. Make it Raaaaaid Vanquished the Ancient Dragons of Destruction. 5.4% of players.
    9. Spicy Boy Defeat Haderax the Invincible. 1.8% of players (!)
How many players bothered that much to reach "Overpowered level 8", if barely 3 in 17 reached only level 50?
Were those DLCs *that* successful, if less than 5% of players bothered with?
This despicable practice of asking in advance for money 1. for unfinished and surely full of bugs products and 2. because "you know, we will deliver in 6-8 months some extra-content (aka 1-2 hrs max **** DLCs, or worse, extra characters to be played with)" should, I repeat, die in miserable pain along with all developers which implement it.
Does ANY game need Season Pass? No.
Does ANY game need Season Pass 2? Definitely no.
Does ANY game need Season Pass 3? Definitely, definitely no.
Shove all your Season Passes in your throats, by the time you end up publishing your marvelous DLCs which no one cares about, your game will have collected a lot of dust on Steam servers.
You can easily bundle all your **** DLCs along with the main game into some *unique* GOTY edition (as it was up to 2010, 2011!) without splitting and chopping the content into Deluxe, Gold, Ultimate, Spectacular, Whatever Edition and having the nerve afterwards to ask money for Season Pass 2, 3 and so forth.
PS. Statistics pulled from Steam achievements. I'm pretty sure that Epic achievements will fall into the same ballpark.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Borderlands 3 overall is a solid game when it comes to gameplay but lacks the writing to make the game compelling. I was not expecting the game to be a Borderlands 2 by any means and was hoping for just a good looter shooter. Well it was good at looting and shooting but the rest of it did not hold up.

Now this game was difficult to review as I feel the game is better than the original in terms of gameplay…. yet I was not happy or thrilled when I was playing it. The vault hunters you get to pick where mostly ok but honestly, I didn’t really feel they had character like the previous series. None of them where compelling and mostly just had generic dialogues. The game itself also felt a bit easy for me and I didn’t feel much of a challenge throughout the main story. I do like the gunplay and the extra variety of guns they introduce so that’s a plus. Skill tree is still cool but nothing new from previous titles. So overall my experience with just the game itself without adding into the story is roughly 6/10. Enjoyable enough but average.

Now when you add in the story, things get a lot worse. I hated how the story progressed. One of the most annoying non compelling villains that I just hate. Borderlands 2 had a very good villain that you know is as villain, but you enjoy how great he is as a character. Borderlands 3 completely does not have that same magic at all for their villain. Making them this streamer attitude kids who doesn’t have the same charisma or depth. The game also added in a horrible character name AVA and I hated her. There is nothing else to say but after a certain turning point in a game where this kid is now part of the crew, I stopped playing the game from the original release date…. until a week ago. After finishing the game my view has not changed. Poorly written character growth, underserving character death and horrible villains. This game was a slog to get through because of the story. There are small aspect here and there that feels like they understood Borderlands universe and then the rest of it is just pulling random powers ups out of thin air and making one of the WORSE characters in the game the center point of the game. So the story is a 2/10. It gets 2 points for having Tiny Tina and to have a memorial statue of a previous character in the game. That is it.

So there are some games that are enjoyable without paying attention to the story. Mario for example is fun with a simple story that doesn’t get in the way. You can’t say the story is great but it isn’t a negative aspect. God of War has amazing gameplay and amazing story that helps it immensely. Earth Defense Force is by far the stupidest game in terms of story however has a very fun gameplay that doesn’t hamper the overall game. The Last of Us Part 2 is an okay game when it comes to gameplay but with very bad story that hampers the enjoyment of the game. Borderlands 3 falls into the same category of being an average game with a horrible story. The company already has a long history of being horrible towards their developers as well as the CEO is one of the worst out there…. I don’t believe I would be excited to play from anything else from this company. 4/10 play Borderlands 2 instead

The ultimates/super abilities recharge really fast and feel equally underpowered. Kind of kept forgetting to use mine since it was actually better to just use a gun.

The story is incredibly boring, and all the Borderlands-y tropes are just terrible now. The characters aren't interesting or charming.

The gunplay is even more polished than ever, the guns have more variations than ever and the world looks really really nice is some of the later locations. The performance was bad at launch but still above 60fps. Today however it seems vastly improved and im often at 100-140fps on my 3060 Ti.

No serious bugs or crashes, already completed 3 playthroughs and I'm itching for a 4th. This game is at it's best when played with a couple of friends. Single-Player would probably be a lot less fun.

I'll give it a 8.5/10, but since I can't here I guess I'll have to round it up to 9/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought this game both on Steam & Stadia, they both run very good and I am actually surprised how extremely good it runs and looks on Stadia. I bought BL3 after finally getting tired of BL1, 2 & TPS.

I love BL3 but not as much as BL2, the gunplay is alot better in BL3 in my opinion, story is decent, playable characters are fun but there is one big issue I have with BL3 and that is how easy it is right off the bat (playing on Normal), i've done multiple playthroughs now and every single time I get overpowered legendaries at around lvl 3-5 that I can bring down bosses up to lvl 15 with in about 5-8 seconds, the spread on loot needs to be tuned down, less legendaries and more purples would be alot better.

Reason for this is because every time I do a new game, I don't have to upgrade my gear every level, I can use lvl 3-4 legendaries up until about lvl 15 before I need to change, the whole game is about getting better loot, the sellpoint of BL has always been, "A billion guns", "A gazillion guns" etc, you know what I'm talking about and this is completely pointless in BL3, loot barely matters. Sure there is anointment weapons which is basiically the new "legendary" but this system completely removes the need for green and blue items during the whole first playthrough on Normal, it takes away the fun that Borderlands has always been about and it does that right from the start.

Would I recommend this game? Hell yes, it's a blast to play but for old BL players you may be disappointed and positively surprised at the same time.

If you've never listened to a single line of quest dialog in the Borderlands series and just followed the marker, you'll be right at home. Otherwise, the lack of coherency and thought put into the plot and writing will be irritating - offensively so at times.

Otherwise, the lack of coherency and thought put into the plot and writing will be irritating - offensively so at times.

The "good gameplay" is really good. In terms of pure mechanics, this is a superb Borderlands installment. There's some bs with the metagame (inconsistent drops, weak manufacturers), but shooting has never been so fun and responsive in the series. Also, Borderlands finally got actual boss fights, and most of them are really well done, imo.

The "bad narrative" is really bad. And it's not just about the plot or the characters, I mostly don't even mind them, - everything's awful on a fundamental, moment-to-moment, line-to-line level: the writing, an overwhelming majority of the jokes, pacing, sometimes even the voice acting.

Everything in between is a mixed bag. Graphics are nice to look at and artists try their best, but results range from fantastic to really bland or even visually irritating sometimes. Soundtrack jumps from memorable and thrilling, complex and fitting pieces to a "meh" audio filler, sound effects are no different.

Overall, if to approach a score as a dry calculation of good parts vs bad parts, I feel that there was noticeably more good ones, but they're disjointed, unfocused and mixed with some of the worst filth this series has to offer (looking at you, Ava). Better then average experience, but the line it walks not to fall into a complete blunder is so thin, that I cannot force myself to complete DLCs I paid for, so they cannot disappoint me further.

    6/10, only buy if you're a fan.

This being an epic exclusive on release shouldn't detract from its score as much as it did. It should be judged purely on the game that it is.

I will say that some of the criticism aimed at the game, i entirely agree with. The characters are annoying and the story is so forgettable i couldnt even tell you what happened. However, since when were people buying Borderlands games for the award winning story telling lol? Never. Thats when. Every story in the franchise thus far has been bad/forgettable and this game is no different in that regard.

What this game does get more wrong than its predecessors however, is the characters and dialogue. It's super cringe and i MEAN super. Infact its so bad id almost recommend you just mute the game entirely and listen to music while you shoot the ever living poop out of things. You wont be missing anything worth experiencing if you do, and thats what i ended up doing after having my fill of the asinine writing and voice acting.

Which brings me to my final point. The fact that i was able to mute the game entirely, yet still play it through to the end and have a lot of fun doing so, tells you something about the game and its gameplay. I have only ever really played borderlands because the gameplay loop is extremely satisfying to me, and its no less satisfying here. Infact its endlessly more satisfying, because the shooting and combat as a whole has been overhauled and boy does it pay off. SO much more responsive are the guns and shooting mechanics, the movement is sleek and fun where the previous games felt clunky and slow.

As a game, Borderlands 3 improves on almost EVERYTHING in terms of gameplay over the previous titles. It also somehow manages to do all of the other stuff waaaaay worse than the previous games. But ask yourself this....

Do you really care about the story or do you just want to shoot 5 acres of sh*t out of a good variety of enemies with an extremely good variety of guns?

if the answer is "no i dont care about the story at all" then this game will not disappoint you and in fact will most likely leave you very happy.

Borderlands 3 is an excellent game, but not for the reasons one might think. The plot is not a bad one, and the characters aren't written poorly, in fact some characters have their best appearances here. The most essential part of the game is lacking - the villains.

The Villains of borderlands 3 are very much in the same vain as Handsome Jack, loud, annoying, braggadocious and not full of much depth. Their plot isn't bad, and their concept isn't awful but they feel rather hamfisted. The main character I played also suffered from this to some extent, where she was speaking in old internet lingo that felt really dated. However, despite all this the game was very enjoyable.

One of my biggest complaints with Borderlands games is the driving is done very poorly, and in this game its not improved upon at all, yet despite all of this some of my favorite missions were driving missions. The vehicle part acquisitions is tedious but a great addition, and it a great expansion on the cosmetics in borderlands. On top of vehicle cosmetic adjustments the game also brings player colors/themes and helmets back, these are much better than the previous entries and are thematic. Gun trinkets and paints were added, while I was not able to collect too many they were nice when I found them.

The graphics are exactly what one would want, and on top of that the game runs impressively well. My machine is rather out of date now a days but I managed to run this almost maxed out at 1080p with 60fps no problem. The games environments look fantastic and not a bad resolution low poly object in sight. When you first load in, the game might tank and look bad but its just loading things in and it does fix itself rather quickly.

The writing while I complained at the start of my review is actually really enjoyable. There are some things which could be perceived as plot errors but they're not so glaring that they ruin the story. Where the writing really shines is the individual characters and how they all fit so excellently. WIthout spoiling, many celebrities voice characters in the game, and while at first it is strange hearing their voices they nail their characters and their characters are witty and enjoyable. We also see a great cast of returning characters, some even from Tales From The Borderlands which is phenomenal. i was very worried they'd leave those threads untied. The recasting of Claptrap annoyed me deeply at first but eventually I just forgot what he use to sound like and quite honestly, he's all still there. He's done very well, perhaps his most compelling appearance.

Gun play is as enjoyable one can expect from a borderlands title, however new additions have been made to gun manufacturers and "class mods" that really add variety. Each gun company has a special benefit to using their weapons, without naming them all jakobs for example when you crit something the bullet will bounce to another target as well which comes in handy when you're bursting down large groups of things. Much of the game I was doing content I was not at level for, which is likely my own fault so most guns I could not use until later. The vaults in my experience yield no good guns, and my best guns came from quest rewards or killing bosses.

Speaking of bosses, the bosses are excellently done. Just enough mechanics to be challenging and not so much health they feel like bullet sponges. Every single boss was unique and entertaining, however I did not feel as if you had to adjust your gun types to help you. I only did this for one boss that I was clearly undergeared for. Most bosses I died on one or two times, except funnily enough the final one which I did in my first try. Many of the bosses are large and imposing, you have to maneuver around the stage to get better shots on them and you never really can stand still or hide behind cover for too long. This makes the fights feel more engaging and less like I'm just pouring bullets into something. Some of the bosses are forgettable, so much so that I actually had to look up a list again to check which bosses there were, but others are so excellent they should be case examples of how FPS should implement boss fights.

The game ends well enough, its not a great surprise to me, and it does leave itself space to have another game, while still feeling satisfying. I have not played the DLC, and I played completely solo, I'm sure others experiences may differ but I am looking forward to playing the DLC and future games.

A quality title that is easily worth the money, especially if you can enjoy it with friends.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's more of the same which isn't a bad thing. There really isn't anything new or revolutionary over previous games. It could have been DLC and accomplished the same thing. Again, not necessarily a bad thing.

The issues that bring this game down over its predecessors is the story and the bugs. On the story side this game was just dull and went on entirely too long. Spoiler - by mid game every major mission ended with you doing a lot of shooting to get something and then the bad guys magically appear out of nowhere, take it all away and wipe out everybody on your team. It doesn't matter that they couldn't handle whatever the challenge was themselves, they always immediately disable you and there is nothing you can do about it. Rinse and repeat over the back half of the game and it just becomes incredibly dull. Towards the end of the game the villains are even considered invincible and have powers that, if they were real, would completely wipe you out with no chance of winning. And yet you still have the traditional boss fight at the end where suddenly you are able to defeat them even though you couldn't the entire game before. This just reeks of a slapped on story.

The other big issue is with the premise that you have a ship and can go to other planets. Yet every planet looks exactly like the others and they all look like the places from B2. One would have assumed that they would have used the "planets" as a way to show different biomes like perhaps an ice world or something from the pre-quel but they didn't. It is just the same biome over and over again. Really a letdown given this was hyped up before the games release.

On the bugs side the loading times on a fast machine is awful. I can boot Windows in 10 seconds and this game takes over a minute to start even on an nvime drive with more CPU power than the game needs. And then as soon as the load screen appears it freezes for another 10 seconds or so. And if you do an update and it has to refresh the shaders then you might as well go to lunch.

Once in the game the perf is generally OK but bugs are still plenty. I played co-op and my partner lost the ability to hear cutscenes after a while, the name indicators over each other's heads stopped working and there were stutters throughout. At the end of the game after a particular cutscene the next cutscene started playing (so many of them) and the subtitles from a cutscene a while back was stuck on the screen. My co-op partner didn't even see the subtitles. The subtitles stuck around every cutscene after that until we stopped playing.

As far as loot it was seriously screwed up compared to previous games. The best loot we got was from normal kills. Every time the game hyped up a vault or a cool boss we got white or green weapons. It was rare to get blues or better. It was particularly funny when towards the end of the game one of the NPCs gave us his "personal" weapon to help in the upcoming boss fight and it was a white for both of us. Overall the loot just seemed weak compared to previous games. I stuck with my lower level legendary weapons from mid game all the way until end because they simply were better than everything else.

Overall this is more of the same. It doesn't in any way move the series folder and could have just been a DLC and been just as good. The story and loot were bad compared to other games and it just went on way longer than it needed to with no real benefit.

I played hours on end both alone and with friends in every entry in the series and it was almost always a hit with everyone I played it with. Its combination of Diablo-style loot and skill trees with Halo-style shooting and physics is a winning combination what I percieve to be largely minor design problems, and in all honestly, 3 is no exception. I was there at PAX East 2019 when Gearbox had their big presentation to announce the game, and did nice things like show Battleborn fan art and have cosplayers come up on stage. I should have suspected something when they conspicuously failed to announce what store the game would be available from.

Borderlands 3 is a lot of fun, but I cannot in good conscience tell you to pay money for it. The why is a number of things that are varying degrees of heinous. The first, of course, is because of the Epic store and their shady exclusivity deals, which more then once have been used to bait-and-switch customers and kickstarter backers. I've been playing Epic games all my life and the skeezy, CCP-money backed Epic Games of today resembles nothing of the company that once developed and published titles like Unreal Tournament, Jazz Jackrabbit and Tyrian 2000. They don't even resemble the company that developed Gears of War. If the issue had been that alone, however, I would have simply waited out the year and then whatever time it would take for BL3 to be severely discounted on Steam. But there is more.

Anyone familiar with Gearbox has a lot to say about them, not all of it productive: How much of a "disappointment" Duke Nukem Forever was, how "bad" Battleborn was. **** of course, though their treatment of Duke since has not been stellar, and Troy Baker's statement about their refusal to participate in unions, and so on. The real issue is their grandstanding CEO, Randy Pitchford. Even if I had enjoyed some of Randy's past antics and stage magic tricks, his persistently bizarre public behavior and repeated allegations leveled against him of things like possession of child porn, siphoning 12 million bucks from the company and even assaulting Claptrap's original VA, David Eddings on top of denying him pay, are rather difficult to gloss over. It's difficult to say what's true and what isn't. But you combine that with the Epic business and publisher 2K Games' less then stellar track record, such as supposedly sending private investigators to a Youtuber's house for "breaking our policies, leaking confidential information about our product, and infringing our copyrights", they said, and you get a pretty ugly picture overall. By the time of this writing i'm sure tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people ignored all of this and gleefully shelled out the full asking price for BL3, maybe even from the Epic Store, but I will not. If you people keep paying money to get shafted, they will keep doing it.

Instead, I suggest you pick up a used copy of the game for consoles or find, shall we say, alternative means of acquiring BL3, because beneath the executive **** price model, crashes, unlikable villains and flat jokes is a mechanical evolution of the series that I'm sure, for at least some of the people who did real work at Gearbox, is something they wanted to be proud of. Hopefully they got the pay they deserved for it, but I don't think Randy, 2K Games, Tim Sweeny or Xi Jinpeng for that matter deserve one red cent of your money for this or anything else anymore.

The game offers a number of quality of life improvements, like the ability to fast travel from any location instead of specific warp points, a feature that really ought to have been in the series from the first. Driving controls were much improved as well, with a better sense of weight and physics. Movement is improved, the mantling mechanic is a great addition. There are number of outstanding issues attributable to its origins as a console game, such as there still being only four weapon slots, but I guess things like that are never going to change. Like I said at the beginning, minor issues in the scope of things. The game generally runs well, with smooth framerate and reasonable load times, though I did occasionally encounter game-crashing fatal errors.

I wanted to tell people to buy Borderlands 3, but I can't. Still, if you have the opportunity to play it, whether or not you've played the previous games, it is a pretty good time. That is why I am giving it a Four and not a big fat Zero. I even tried to leave a Steam review after the free week and was not able to. There is a reasonable explanation for why that is, but it doesn't look right regardless.

Then, the show airs and most of the fans stop watching after the first episode. They hyped the hell out of this game, boasting how it was open world, and it doesn't even feel like a world. The planets feel empty, soulless, devoid of any wow-factor. Any enemies you run into only exist as the subjects of quests dragging you to and fro. I thought that, maybe, if I tried it on PC (as it's free to try on Steam for the next 5 days), I might like it better than I did on PS4. Nope. Sure, Borderlands 3 has its moments with some fun little side missions and a couple characters you can't help but love (Hammerlock and Jakobs), but 90% of the writing choices made by Gearbox were awful. Fart jokes, lowbrow humor that can't even hit the mark as ironic, and worst of all: the most annoying, uninteresting, cookie cutter, unsympathetically pathetic villains, the Calypso Twins. These two, unlike Jack who couldn't really be matched anyway, have no believable motivation, eye-catching backstory, or meaningful effect on the player. Half the time I couldn't even remember they were the main villain, it seemed like some BL1 DLC side-villain like Shank or Knoxx, but even those two had something called CHARACTER. Long-story short, play the game for its strengths like its revamped gameplay, gunplay, and loot. Also the DLC ain't too bad considering what you just had to go through with the main game. Expand

There is also a slight graphical edge over the other entries, mostly in it's color scheme, it's not much of an upgrade at all however, and that's where the pros end. This game was abysmally average, hardly any improvement from the second game that was made SEVEN years ago. The writing is very poor in comparison to 2, The Pre Sequel, and Tales From the Borderland, which is to be expected as the head writer of those games was not present here. The humor is painful to have to sit through and contains no charm from the last entries. The character arcs from past games go nowhere, and a lot of them don't even show up for this one. Hopefully you didn't like the playable characters in borderlands 2, as only 2 of them actually show up, just for one to die in a meaningless way. The plot has a bad habit of introducing new, *very* annoying characters who you have no connection with, and then getting rid of ones you did. The characters who die also go out in very anti climactic ways and in the end is just disappointing for their story arc. If you are a fan of the gameplay of the other games you will have fun, but don't expect anything different or innovative. In the end this becomes a painfully average rpg which outstays it's welcome, which is something the borderlands series shouldn't be known for. I hope they can make something better for their next project. Expand

Gameplay is great and improved from the pre-quel, but the story is very bad. Also, there are tons of bug still in the game. I give it 6 because of gameplay only. the rest has gone because of bugs and story.

I must say this third game is way fun and much better than the first and second game. The gun fight is agile and the variety of enemies plus level is more than the previous games. Though I still miss Handsome Jack as the main villain. I reccomend people to play at least campaign co-op up to 2 players at least. Is way more fun to play with other player.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Just so you have some kind of idea of where I'm coming from, I loved Fallout 4, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, and Skyrim. From reading the reviews, this game seemed like it was similar to Fallout, so I was quite enthusiastic about it heading in.

About 3 hours in, my thoughts are that this is pretty meh. On the plus side, the mechanics are solid, it has a great sense of humor, and the graphics are beautiful. But the story line seems to have been thrown is an afterthought. After several hours of playing, all I've gathered is that you're a "vault hunter" trying to collect loot. it's like Fallout if it were told from the perspective of one of the nameless NPC Raiders. The games that I mentioned above had me hooked from the opening scene. This game is a few hours in, and I still don't give a crap about my character or anyone that he's interacted with.

In conclusion, I did not care for this game at all. I probably won't bother playing it ever again. But I play games mostly for the immersion and story line. I know that many gamers place much greater emphasis on things like combat mechanics and variety of loot. If that's you, you'll probably love this game. With all that in mind, I give this 5 stars.

SOY INCAPAZ DE ENTENDER COMO ES POSIBLE DE QUE HALLA GUIAS PARA CONSEGUIR LEGENDARIAS, NI LAS VI LAS GUIAS PERO ES UNA BURLA LAS LEGENDARIAS, MATANDO CUALQUIER COSA GANAS UNA LEGENDARIAS, EN EL MODO EXPERTO ES MAS RIDICULO TODAVIA LO PEOR DE TODO ES QUE SE CONSEGUIEN COMO PAN CALIENTE HASTA EN LAS CAJAS Y LOS BAÑOS, HASTA DONDE AGARRAS LA MUNICION!!!! Los planetas solo rescato Pandora, EL RESTO SON UNA PORQUERIA, NO PUEDE SER QUE UN PLANETA EN GUERRA SOLO TENGA UNA SOLA AREA DISPONIBLE!!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So this game plays like a charm, even though it does take a lot more to run than its predecessors. The guns are more toned down instead of dealing 1,000,000 damage in a single shot, which makes the game handle a decent bit better, and the characters are somewhat original and charming in their own ways.

But then we get to the big problem. compared to BL1 and BL2, the story is TRASH. After each planet you go to, you have to listen to Lillith talk for 3 hours straight, and the writing is horrid. There are so many avoidable deaths, such as Maya. Like if that trash rat, Ava, wasn't a deaf and clingy trashbag, she wouldn't have been in the vault to just get in the way.

AND THE VILLAINS! Compared to Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2, the Calypso twins are just the most garbage villains in the history of gaming. They have extremely dry humor and they are sooooo annoying.

In the end, Borderlands 3 is a game that plays very well, it just has a horrible and repetitive story that just makes the game impossible to enjoy.

Excellent game. Beautiful to look at and a lot of fun to play, I've dumped a ton of hours into it. They have continued to add to and improve it as time goes on. No microtransactions, excellent. My only tiny gripe is that the characters could have written a bit better, very childish humor that often falls flat.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I truly have mixed feelings about this. For me BL2 was one of my favorite games of all time. I became invested in the characters, lore, everything.

First the good. This game is in fact a superior game to BL2, the gunplay is more fluid, enemies actually rag doll, the addition of sliding and ledge climbing was great and made you feel more mobile. It has a number of quality of life changes too, like in general making money useful instead of useless, letting you teleport from anywhere and giving you tons more space in your pack and bank to store things. I loved all of that. The artistic direction and music is once again unrivaled. The Voice Acting for a majority of the cast was fantastic.

So why did I give it a 5? Honestly I was tempted to go even lower but stopped myself for want of being fair. Not only to the game but the people who put in so much time, passion and effort into whats here. The majority of developers did an incredible job and deserve so much recognition. They deserve their bonuses which Gearbox illegally decided to withhold from them.

A product is a sum of its parts, its only as strong as its weakest link. And the weakest link here is its story. The story was the most infuriating, insulting, insufferable, BORING, story for a game I think I've ever played. I seriously think I liked Turok 2008's story more.

Favorite characters including mine(Axton) from BL2 are no where to be found and not even mentioned. They don't do a good job explaining any event post BL2 for people like myself who have no interest in the "tales" series, so I was immediately confused and horrified to casually hear that Scooter died in the time gap. I was even more horrified when they killed of Maya for a cheap "well it worked with Roland" moment that was neither earned nor made sense. All the humor is something that a 12 year old boy might find funny which was in BL2 but here literally EVERYONE is more annoying than Claptrap, a character designed to be annoying. There are no straight men to even play off of as the rest of the fan favorites are maybe in 30 minutes of this 40 hour game.

The main villains? Listen I never expected them to top Jack. And to be honest, I liked the twins as a concept, I really did. Serine antagonists felt like a proper threat, but again the being more annoying than Claptrap while also being Merry/Gary Sues/Stues just ruin them. The entire meta commentary on "streamers" fell completely flat on their face while insulting us, gamers, as mindless cult members who blindly listen to what ever their favorite streamer says. My interest in this franchise is completely dead. Best parts of this game were its DLC packs which I can't even include in this review or else it might go up to a 6 or 7. The rest is just garbage writing.

Pick it up on sale if you want to play it for the gameplay and environments. Skip the story.

I know some may not like the change in art direction but I think the brighter colors give it a futuristic feel that fits well with the series moving off Pandora. The story isn't fantastic but is good enough for a Borderlands game to keep you interested enough and while I wouldn't say its a riot the jokes still land well for the most part. The DLCs have also been good thus far, improving on characters and story beats from the main game. However, there is just so much damn waiting. The game loads slow, especially on co-op and has a tendency to crash when trying to get back to Sanctuary, which you have to do an absurd amount of times. This has been improving with newer hotfixes but is still really annoying. The gameplay also makes you wait, why the hell does every single boss become invincible at some point during their fight? It feels like game time padding and is not fun. Then there's the story slowing you down too. In the first game there were only a few mandatory dialogue scenes and all quests you could read the description if you wanted to or just skip over it if you didn't care about the story and weren't stuck waiting. Whereas this one nearly every quest makes you wait to listen to someone talk and dont try to jump ahead of them because you'll have to go back and pick something up from them. That's my main issue with this game is the sheer amount of waiting to get to the actual gameplay. Wait to load, wait to listen to dialogue, wait for boss to not be immune. If they went back to letting the gameplay move you along and not halting it so much with long dialogue and drawn out immunity boss fights that would make it much more enjoyable. Expand

There are many issues with this game but I still logged 300 hours in it. For what it's worth, most of these issues only occur in the post-mainquest-endgame, so if you wanna just do the mainquest and side quests, this game is pretty bug-free.

And they appear every few minutes in end game levels. Googling about them noticed articles about how they ruin end game and can't agree more. Made me decide to quit Borderlands 3 and forget about buying DLC packs ever.

I had to turn the graphics down significantly to get the game to run relatively smoothly and I have a new computer with 32 gigs of RAM and top graphics card. The game is the same engine and the story is worse than borderlands 2 and bland. The guns are not as interesting and the missions gets repetitive quickly. For some reason they took out achievements. What a fricking pity!
I’ve bought this game thanks to a summer sale; being a fan, I would have bought it at full price hadn’t I known in advance of the super SJW attitude of Gearbox.

First off, I disagree with most of what the negative reviews say about the gameplay. This is the best Borderlands in terms of shooting, thanks to improved weapon mechanics and wild design; I especially love the alternate function of many weapons. I like the fact that you cannot grow too attached to a weapon because it will become obsolete as you level up: change is good and equally good ones will come your way, keeping your experience varied. The main opponents are not as annoying as people would have you believe. On the other hand, it’s essentially the same as what came before. Get to an area, kill all the spawning mooks, then move on. No problem for me, as I love it, simple as it is. I’d give it a solid 9 if not for the rampant misandry.
But then, at this point I’ve yet to see a female NPC that is a complete clown, like 90% of the male ones. Female NPC badasses I’ve met so far: Lilith, Ellie, Lorelei, Maya, Moxxi, Ava and also the female twin. Male badasses: Zer0. Notice something?
And then comes a mission in which you have to kill one of Moxxi’s exes, Killavolt. His sin? Apparently, he disappointed her. It’s a stream of comments on how he's obnoxious and was no good in bed, minimally endowed, egotistical, overcompensating. You are also required to shoot him in his male parts, just to add offense to injury. Finally, after he is dead, you must hang a trophy of him to the toilet. Try to imagine what would happen if the genders were swapped and you were required to kill a woman who disappointed a man, with constants comments on how she was sexually inept and a total loser. The game would be trashed by all critics, there would be boycotts and worse.
Well, if you don’t mind that and you like Borderlands humor and shooting, this game is great. Me, I can’t overlook Gearbox’s hatred of men, so it’s a middling score for me.

Not really a bad game. But still, in some places, it’s not clear, with stupid jokes, with a banal plot. Grade 6 will do for her.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Didn't mind the story as most people complained about it. Sure the humor wasn't there compared to Borderlands 2 and I do think Handsome Jack is a better villain (Butt Stallion, Tiny Tina expansion was GREAT). But I enjoyed the playthrough. The gun damage is confusing though, it varies by a lot. So far I use Shocking AAA and Yellowcake as my main guns. Oh yeah, and just when you thought the story was going to end before the Troy fight, it goes on for a while after that (not too long though). Confusing kinda, but overall I liked the game. Expand

Gearbox falsely believes they are brilliant story tellers, and they've unfortunately made the story and characters the main focus of BL3 and all the DLC. Gearbox's idea of "harder" gameplay equals increased health and damage dealt, i.e mayhem mode. It's not harder, it's tedious. Other big problems include Mayhem 10's extremely build/weapon restrictive nature due to horrid balancing decisions, asinine limited time seasonal events, horrible optimization, and much more, which you can consistently find people **** about on reddit. Borderlands 3 is a pretty good game. Its gun play is the best the series has had to offer and for the most part, the characters are likable and enjoyable to be around. In addition, the villans are a joke in comparison to the brutal, yet charismatic, handsome jack. But, the series was never mainly focused on making a good story. Rather, making compelling gameplay. As I mentioned earlier, the guns and sound design in are the best the series has seen. The crisp sound that each gun makes is satisfying and makes the guns especially fun to shoot. On the other hand, the missions in this game, moreso the side missions are a pain to get done. In the game its pretty much impossible to complete a mission if you're not at least within two levels of the recommended level requirment. Since the side missions barely give any XP you are left doing love and rather pointless side missions for meager amounts of XP. In conclusion, while better than presequal, this entry is only a few steps above the first and is heavily flawed. if you're looking for a borderlands experience with a good story and amazing characters, you should stick to 2. But, if you're looking for amazing gameplay and glorious sound and level design. You should try 3. Expand

TLDR: Gameplay (9/10), Endgame (7.5/10), Story(6ish/10). A more worthy successor than TPS, but still not the glory of Borderlands 2. Still highly suggested for Borderlands fans.

This review is post Mayhem 2.0, but prior to the announcement of DLC 3 and the Guardian Takedown which will take place in 8 hours actually. Aspects may change and I may come back and adjust things.

Borderlands 3 is a great game lagged down by some varying issues.

The gameplay is honestly, in my opinion, the best there has been in the series thus far. While there are only 4 characters thus far and no conformation of more yet, the characters we do have have more diversity in builds than ever before. Multiple action skills and "augments" (think they're called something else but still) really lets you try different things out and makes each character feel like so much more than the previous ones. The gun play is great and the guns themselves are awesome and as cool or weird as ever.

With the current Mayhem 2.0 patch, endgame balancing is far far superior in my opinion than that of UVHM and particularly the OP levels we've seen previously. The Mayhem levels only increase the health, armor, and shields of enemies and not their levels so the damage dealt to them and yourself is the same across the board, which cannot be said for the previous OP level system. Along with this there are some modifiers that will increase difficulty a little further, but thus far these have been fairly unobtrusive with it allowing you to reroll until you find a set of modifiers you can agree with. Currently the number of weapons that are viable at the highest difficulty, Mayhem 10, is a little restrictive, but there are promises of patches in the near future that will help address this bringing lower tier weapons up the ladder while nerfing some of the more frequently used and powerful guns. These nerfs though should also be balanced a fair bit by a blanket reduction of health given to enemies at the higher mayhem levels making it generally easier. Build variety is fairly open from what I've seen allowing lots of play styles. Overall, the balancing currently is good and should only get better.

The endgame lacks as much content as there was in Borderlands 2, but still has a lot more to do than that of The Pre Sequel. There is a moderate amount of things to do with plenty of normal bosses to farm. There is only one major raid boss currently being Wotan. More are believed to be coming, but are yet to be seen. As far as DLC goes currently we have The Handsome Jackpot and Love, Guns, and Tentacles, both of which I think are great and add enough content to warrant the purchase of. DLC 3 is about to be announced and a 4th is coming further down the line. Content updates are also fairly frequent with events and weapons being added giving more stuff to do and bring ya back.

The story is probably my biggest gripe. It's... disappointing to say the least. It's definitely not the reason you'll want to buy the game. I'd go as far to say that Borderlands 1 may have done it better purely because you really can't be let down too much there at least. There are good moments and characters, but there are also some major downs and frustrations. Some fan favorites are pushed aside in favor of old and new ones that are not expanded on in as meaningful of a way as I'd and a lot of others would like. The story is just a step back from that of TPS and BL2. That's for sure.

Little things. The tech issues I know were present at launch have mostly been sorted out to the best of my knowledge so it runs quite well. The initial reveal and launch of the game was a complete catastrophe between Epic Store exclusivity, Randy Pitchford in general, tech issues, story issues, ect. There is a lot that left a sour taste in my mouth. I waited until the steam release. I've more than enjoyed my time and love the game, but I have to speak up to the wrongs and stupidity of a lot of whats happened between the reveal and now. The games come a long way and it's better for it, but I'm not forgetting the wrongs here.

Overall, Borderlands 3 is a great game, just not the best. I'm excited to see the new DLCs and other content coming to the game and hope to see it lead to a Borderlands "4" that's better than ever. I hope the developers learn from everything they do to make that next entry that much more amazing, maybe even surpassing Borderlands 2. I love this series so much. From the a little after the last DLCs release for the first game to now this series has brought me thousands of hours of entertainment and has become a large part of my overall love for games. Thank you Gearbox for my favorite game franchise, and thank you to anyone that managed to slog through this nerds overly long user review on metacritic. Geez I'm closer to character limit than I'd like.

I was a bit worried at first because of all the negativity, but I thought I better use my own judgement and see for myself.

I love and enjoy this game as much as Borderlands 2 and have not been disapointed. So if you are a Borderlands fan there is probably a strong chance this game will appeal to you. The gameplay has improved and thats the most important aspect to a looter shooter

So if you are a Borderlands fan there is probably a strong chance this game will appeal to you.

The gameplay has improved and thats the most important aspect to a looter shooter as I don't play for the story and the story is not to be taken seriously, anyway I think the story is ok and suits the game and sure the villains are annoying and give me the feeling of I can't wait to wipe them out which I think is good as we aren't supposed to like them.

I have not had the game crash, but
still the game has problems such as occasional lag and stuttering, online disconnects and hate the rotating map.

But overall this is a 8/10 game for me. Love most things about it.

Borderlands 3 really should have been great , and i will say i enjoyed the game it does a lot right but for everything it dose right there is 2 missteps and by the end this game just felt like a mess , an enjoyable mess but i mess nonetheless , I am a huge borderlands fan and first i wanna say that its evident that gearbox is frustrated they are only human after all but very frustrated.Borderlands 3 really should have been great , and i will say i enjoyed the game it does a lot right but for everything it dose right there is 2 missteps and by the end this game just felt like a mess , an enjoyable mess but i mess nonetheless , I am a huge borderlands fan and first i wanna say that its evident that gearbox is frustrated they are only human after all but very frustrated. this is a criticism not a hit.

Story: the biggest disappointment of this game is the story, its terrible we all heard about how awful it is, i feel bad for who had to write this following up borderlands 2 witch had one of the greatest villains of not just the borderlands franchise or hell even video games but of all time handsome jack that would have been hard, tyreen and troy are well boring and stupid , i liked that the villain was a siren 2 sorta , the fact that troy was a siren as well only because they were twins made sense to me i liked that little detail, she can steal peoples power . but they don't feel like people they feel like bad guys , jack might have been the bad guy but he was a person first. that's also my main problem with this EVERYONE IS TERRIBLE its like everyone is a charactachur of their former selves 1/6th of the way in i thought they were gonna find some way to throw all this violence in my face tell me im a terrible person PULL A FREAKING SPEC OPS could have made the games story memorable but it just didn't. the most shocking part is that nothing shocked me
    Story 2/10

World building: the second biggest disappointment was the world building , borderlands 2 was nuanced and the world was packed this is why i loved doing the side quests in BL2 It always had some hidden little detail about its characters or its world behind them, hammerlocke being gay, all the vault hunters moments they decided to go to pandora, roland and liliths relationship , tiny tinas parents I COULD GO ON but i won't ........DIGNITY I ALMOST FORGOT DIGNITY. they butchered the sirens making them a massive plot hole instead of a creative bit of lore , what happened to every other vault hunter but zero and maya ? how many vaults have been on pandora again ? like 4 ?
Worldbuilding 6/10 i was frustrated but the world isn't flat like other games so ill be lenient

Graphics: well i mean its stylish , bl2 was a huge improvement from 1 but 3 feels like a couple baby steps forward but forward nonetheless , this game looks good especially with all the different locals on single biome planets , its more like the tech caught up with the style , this game will never look bad BUT i think the lazy map design really hurt this game , a lot of the world is just flat empty ground i think that arena style places would have been best in this type of game especially given the gameplay. i remember not being very impressed by the leaked tech demo 2 years ago but i see now that it was just pandora that looks bad even though it has many different biomes they could have used but the went with its wasteland
    Graphics: 7/10

Gameplay: THIS is the best part of the game , the new vault hunters slap , they are so much fun kudos to gearbox a mech soldier is exactly what i wanted even though i didn't know i did, guns are a delight to shoot even the basic ones from the start and the further into the game you go the weirder they get , a gun that shoots cheeseburger BAM , a gun thats shoots sawblades with dynamite BAM because of the comic book style these don't feel like stupid gimmicks they feel like natural parts of the world as well tying all of the weapons into the lore among the different behaviours the manufacturers comply too and seeing these different super companys in game is a treat. the new movement mechanics are great sliding and the vaulting made me run around and use more strategy in the early game. my problem how ever is this game doesn't work i encountered countless bugs , glitches , frame rate issues and crashes it was incredibly frustrating even after iv updated my drivers , fiddled with settings and got it working it only works for about 3 hours before my frames DIP hard and loading screens become unbearable , when the game works how ever its exactly how id want bl3 to play and is a great load of fun
    Gameplay (when it works) 8/10

Sound design: Im running out of letters to use so crash course
    MUSIC: when it plays GOOD
Voiceacting: some good , some bad , some AWFUL like the villians clearly no one had fun recording their lines unlike in bl2 , thought moxxi had a different va all together
SOUND EFFECTS: GREAT guns sound great skills sound great , jumps HURSSS and melee all great
    Sound design: 7.2/10

    2+6+7+8+7.2=30.2
    30.2/5= 6.04/10

Gearbox has a problem: the fantastic Borderlands 2 is too good to be beaten. But in the case of Borderlands 3, it is still more than a worthy successor. The filmmakers brought many pop-cultural references, maybe pushing too hard on how they want to be “modern”, but otherwise it's a great game again. [Issue#298]

Borderlands 3 offers a generous experience, with colourful characters, neat gameplay and a charming universe. Its formula, very close to that of the previous episodes does not revolutionize the show but its small new features bring a little freshness and the scenario makes us want to go to the end of the adventure. Its dynamism and nervousness make it a choice piece for adrenaline-ready FPS lovers and license fans.

The fun, humorous storyline, some great dialogue and theatrical accents of the diverse characters, beautifully varied locations and the same great gunplay that Borderlands is renowned for, means that Borderlands 3 becomes another must have title in the series.
