This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to enjoy this, I really did. However Disney makes me abhor what Star Wars has become.

It started off so promising and crashed and burned without offering a single new insight.

There are so many illogical fallicies with the whole series, Obi-Wan should have told Bail Organa to go swivel as Bail failed in his mission to protect Leia on a planet he ran where there were many guards to protect her. Thus enforcing Obi-Wan into action and leaving Luke exposed with no real protection.

The series then meandered on with what felt like at least 4 filler episodes, during which we learned Obi-Wan can't keep his cover, he can't walk around a gate exposed at both sides and thinks walking through a hangar as a 4 legged hunchback is a good way of not being noticed by Imperials hunting for you; so much for wise old Obi-Wan.

We also learn Leia is suddenly a tech genius which was never shown when the Millennium Falcon had its numerous issues and she later has no memory of Obi-Wan come a New Hope, figure that one out.

Then we get onto Reva, a character that tries to torture a child for information despite knowing this child has had no involvement with this underground as Reva had set up this kidnapping.

Then later it turns out Reva is working against Vader because he killed Jedi and younglings. So in order to enact out her revenge and get close to Vader she kills Jedi and younglings...???

Anyway Reva allegedly "redeems" herself in the last episode; saving a child by not deciding to go through with their murder because now attempted murder is suddenly an admiral trait and heroic now.

Also anyone notice how Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru hold their own against a very dangerous and skilled Inquisitor but can't fend off Stormtroopers that can't shoot for toffee. I was stunned considering it's only 6 years between this and A New Hope.

I will say there were flickers of potential like Vader brutalising Obi Wan and being such a vicious tyrant in a few scenes but at the same time he failed to finish off Reva which seemed really out of step with the character. Also the lightsaber battles felt forced and poorly blocked in each encounter Vader had with Obi-Wan. On top of that he flashback scenes making Hayden look like an old man pretending to be a younger man felt a bit sad to see really.

Qui Gon turning up at the end was great but why couldn't we have started with that and had Qui Gon training Obi Wan to be one with the living force as the overarching story and eventually coming to blows with Vader without the silly kidnapping angle.

Instead what we got was repeated remnants of Episode III with no further character development and more plots holes that further muddy up the lore.

Unfortunately this series fails to offer any new insights into the characters that we didn't previously know.

Its a very badly written tale that had characters acting against their own best interests and the plot was quite choppy at times but this all made sense when I looked at the calibre of the writers and their previous projects.

It's sad to see Star Wars failing on such a level that with each new Star Wars story brought to screen, it becomes more watered down and the prequels suddenly seem better in comparison.

If you can completely turn your brain off to watch this show, you’ll get some enjoyment out of it with great returning characters and actors, and some great action scenes. But if you think about the character motivations and try to make logic out of this plot at all you’ll quickly see this show fails horribly a telling a coherent and believable story. Expand

I am loving the show so far. How Obi Wan barely copes after the empire takes over. Im loving seeing tiny princess Leia. The strong bad guys that star wars gas always had. I cant wait for the next episode.

The first thing I can say is that the actor for Obi Wan is PHENOMENAL and easily the best part about this show with how he delivers the feeling of hopelessness and PTSD with such subtle expressions and learns to trust himself again with slow development overtime which is a nice bit of fresh air from The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian Season 3 who couldn't care less about their main characters and focused too much on the side characters. Darth Vader is also a great character here with what's happened to him before taking place here and it feels heartbreaking to see him this way when you remember who he was and the show even does a great job making it feel that way. The character development between Obi-Wan and Leia is great FOR THE MOST PART since it's great at helping them both learn to trust each other and the bond they create feels realistic and earned and actually even fixes a plot hole in the 1977 film where Leia somehow knew Obi-Wan there. Finally, the last episode of the show was simply beautiful with the camera shots, fight choreography, soundtrack, and characters that were present were all at their A-game and is simply the best part of the show. HOWEVER, despite this show's strengths, there are some major problems with this show that prevent me from ever watching it again. Despite how the last episode is phenomenal, I can't say the same thing about the other episodes with how little care went into the writing, side characters, pacing, and plot. Firstly, the show literally did the exact opposite of The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian Season 3 by developing so much on Obi Wan, the side characters don't get nearly as much attention and mixing that with the pretty weak writing means there's simply nothing memorable about them. Something that goes completely unnoticed is how there's an insane amount of camera shake during the lightsaber fight in the last episode, making it feel like a good fan film rather than a Lucasfilm production. And finally, the pacing is completely inconsistent and ruins the flow of the show which in turn leads to a stupid amount of plot holes here KILLING rewatchability. Overall, despite the great things about this show, there are a lot of problems here that make me hesitate on recommending this show that it's genuinely disappointing to see how far Star Wars has fallen from its initial rise back then to where it is now. Star Wars has gone too long without taking any risks and the only director who tried ended up crucified.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is entertaining, of course, and thankfully short, plus McGregor's presence is more than welcome, but its merits and achievements rest on its constant reliance on staying in a safe zone filled with fan service.

Would it have been the same if Darth Vader hadn't appeared? No, but if they had dared, perhaps Obi-Wan could have been explored in other ways, but the fandom won't allow this saga to do that and has trapped it in a repetitive cycle of stagnation where new plots or ideas are completely out of the question.
I mean, they have a whole galaxy at their disposal and they just can't get off Tatooine.

It's not that I'm expecting something epic from Star Wars anymore, but at least I hope they no longer have to resort to easter eggs or cameos to validate what they're presenting. Yes I'm talking to you Mandalorian.
That's the burden this franchise is carrying and until they actually dare to go beyond the timeline between Episode I and IX, they will continue to be stuck.

Only for their fans and of course you already know that.

I see many critics who don't really understand the universe of Star Wars and the brilliant job that the team did actually put together by making this series.
It's not so simple being a screenwriter, specially if you have such an overwhelming script to be in charge of. Obi Wan's prequel to episode IV managed to build a bridge between a gap from the third to the fourth episode and to give Hayden it's seat near the sunrise, even though he could had more minutes. Plus, the actress portraying Leia will soon turn out to be a great star. Not sure I would call this a failure or at least an average tv series...

I do think some fans are too critical and should just enjoy the content (i enjoyed movies Episode 7-9 as well while there was a lot of hate on it). So in short: Watchable, albeit a bit childish, and not as good as The Mandalorian for example.

I understand the show is very flawed and I‘ll get into what I don’t like about it but as with The Last Jedi, when this show nails stuff, it really truly does nail stuff and it ends up becoming some of my favorite Star Wars content. Ewan McGregor is obviously the best part of this show. His performance is amazing and even better than it was in the prequels as the dialogue is a lot better. I loved seeing him back in this role and I liked how they treated him in the same vein as Luke from The Last Jedi where he’s a broken man and cut off from the force and has to find his way to being the hero again this time in the form of Leia. I liked Leia in this show. While the actress’s performance wasn’t amazing, the mannerisms and dialogue felt like Leia in my opinion. Hayden Christensen did a great job when he wasn’t under the Vader mask and his performance was definitely better than the prequels. I loved Vader in the show and his dynamic with Obi-Wan. Vader felt like a serious threat and some of his scenes were badass especially their final duel at the end of the show. Their final dual has issues in terms of presentation but the emotion and performances really carry it and it can feel emotional if you love Obi-Wan like I do. My issue with the final duel is that the camera shakes way too much. This is a criticism of the show in general. They don’t really like to keep the camera still and it does get annoying after a while. Some of the sets also feel somewhat cheap at times. Not all the sets feel like this but Vader’s castle just feels off and same with the sets in Episode 3. I think Reva is a fun addition to the universe. She does make some contradictory decisions in terms of who she is but I enjoyed seeing what they did with her. Deborah Chow’s direction was kind of mixed to me. It worked sometimes and other times it didn’t which is strange because her direction in shows like Better Call Saul is fantastic. The music is great as well. It’s not the best in the world but it works very well for the show although I wished they had pulled some more tracks from the movies themselves. John Williams original theme for the show is great though. The fan service wasn’t too overbearing like it can be with other shows and it makes sense for this show. This is a great addition to the Star Wars universe that I would definitely recommend checking out. Expand

Dialogue and performances are fine, but there's some poor writing and action sequences that aren't that great, and for a paranoid totalitarian regime the Empire seems to have unbelievably lax internal security at times. None of it's crucial to the plot but there are plenty of moments that will leave you scratching your head over what happened.
However, the basic idea of Obi Wan as a damaged and broken man dealing with the aftermath of Order 66 is a good one, as is an Inquisitor who's a dysfunctional and obsessive backstabber instead of a suave and controlled master villain. I'd put this in the same bucket as the prequel trilogy and TLJ, as something with good ideas but poor execution. Set design and visuals are gorgeous as always, and you can see that Disney's really getting confident with the visual language of Star Wars.

The actual 0-2 score negative reviews seem to mostly be the usual people crying salty manbaby tears either because (shock, horror) it has a black female antagonist and the Jedi lead character isn't a wish fulfilment power fantasy, or because Disney decanonized their beloved EU and hired professional scriptwriters instead of second rate hacks who churn out books on spec for adolescent boys. Cry more.

Was it blessed with top class CGi and special SFX, no it wasn't but I'd watch it 100 times over and still get emotional.

Worth it for Ewan McGregors performance alone. I have very minor nitpicking on editing for specific sequences (such as several chase scenes), but overall a worthy successor to Revenge of the Sith.

Obi struggling to survive even to exist, love little Leia, amazing performance, I can't believe how she made me feel like she is Carry. Love the inquisitorium, I think it's normal that some changes have been made, love Reva, she represents the ambitious sith acolytes, always fighting with each other to have more power, come on! They are sith! And absolutely love Vader, incredible, I almost cry when he spoke and was James Earl Jones! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such a fantastic show so far. Between the story, the characters, the connections with other Star Wars media, the cameos, and the acting…Just Bravo. Little Leia is an absolutely amazing addition as is 3rd Sister Reva (Youngling from the order 66 scene anyone?) Episodes 2 and 3 kept me on the edge of my seat and the cliffhangers keep me craving more. Ewan is again fantastic as Kenobi as well as Hayden as both Anakin and Vader and it was so wonderful for James Earl Jones, Jimmy Smits, and Joel Edgerton to reprise their roles. I fully understand now why Ewan was genuinely afraid to act with Vader. Absolutely ruthless portrayal of Darth Vader at his prime that was more than due. I hadn’t been so scared of him since playing Fallen Order! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An excellent show that deals well with some mature topics such as war and its victims, PTSD, mistreatment of veterans and drug abuse. Moses Ingram as Reva is brilliant, portraying the young, bloodthirsty Inquisitor with a tangible zeal. I note that some criticise Reva's actions and demeanour as unnecessarily reckless, performative and even childlike; however, in my opinion, Ingram's performance is very similar to Hayden Christensen's and Matt Lanter's portrayals of Anakin Skywalker. Both are young recruits to their respective orders, trying to gain favour with their Masters - Skywalker, yearning for a position on the Jedi Council as a Master; and Reva, trying to earn Darth Vader's favour to become the new Grand Inquisitor.

The show gives us a brilliant insight into the difficult dynamic between high-ranking Imperials, further building on the ruthless competition between Krennic and Tarkin in Rogue One; it also gives us a brand-new perspective on the fall of the Jedi Order, seen through the eyes of Ewan McGregor's traumatised and cynical Obi-Wan, which presents a stark and welcome contrast with the saccharine tones of hope and optimism that pervade other "prequel-sequel" shows like Rebels.

I can't wait for the remaining episodes of this show.

TheAs one of the most ardent Star Wars fans, I did not expect anything sane from Disney (a new trilogy, God forgive us) suddenly quite a good series, although the devotion to the children's audience does not quite fit into such a story. The series has been trying to flirt with the old audience (between us, Disney, this is the key to the success of the franchise) Separately ... the scene with Darth Vader and Obi in the sixth episode.
