Deus Ex Machina and errors that intentionally exist in order to continue the story. They literally waited for the last 20 minutes of the last episode to do everything the fans wanted to see, and they did it wrong. It's like when you make a report and just before handing it in you realize that something was missing. This is a missed opportunity and I hope they don't use the same directors and writers again. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main character. Once again, we see the lack of understanding from these so-called writers and once again they want to tell their own story and send their own messages which do not go along with what was set in the original story.
Kenobi - a hopeful and strong Jedi. He wouldn’t bury his lightsaber and try to run away from his past. He’d met this head on, and meditate on his mistakes to overcome them. Instead we get this depressed man, who’s years of martial and spiritual training somehow withered, under the weight of his memories. That is not the man who kept going forward after his master died, not the man who went into the Jedi Temple risking his life so that the remaining Jedi wouldn't fall into a trap. So despite the grief, he would never give up hope and stopped being what he was. When Kenobi went to Tatooine it was to hide Luke and himself from the Empire. He had a mission to watch for the boy. Sure, he was under the weight of guilt and pain, he is a living being after all, but his Jedi training has prepared him for such things. Also Obi-Wan wouldn't decline the call for help.Ewan McGregor is playing some dude named Obi-Wan, but when we see that character, it is clear that it is not Obi-Wan. (Even if in the end all his virtues, skills and power instantly returned.)
The Antagonists.
Reva is the angry creature which I haven’t felt any sympathy for. If she sought revenge against Vader, what was the reason to hunt for Kenobi? To get close to her target? Surely there were other ways. And the way she was hurting civilians, chopping off their limbs, screaming out threats esspecially when the other Inquisitors didn’t, makes her even worse. Her attempt to torture Leia doesn’t bring much sympathy for her neither. And that is a problem with that character – she isn’t consistent. Her plan is futile. Usually when the character seeks revenge he creates a plan, a design. It may have it's downsides but from the perspective of that being the plan will be consistent. Reva has no real plan for her revenge. And she is not after power. Power and revenge are two focuses of any being corrupted by The Dark Side. Instead, we have nothing. She is a villain, but not really. I should feel sympathy, but I don't because she cuts off hands, tortures kids and all that FOR NO REASON.
And in the end she goes after the child of his enemy. She’s willing to hit that low for her revenge but she won’t try to kill the boy’s guardians. By watching the previous films I know that these two characters won't die and I haven't felt any danger. And many fans knew that as well. So what was that all about?
Vader is needless here. He is not the villain, though perhaps he should’ve been.
There is no antagonist with enough motivation to follow Kenobi. But there are two whiny creatures that doubt their actions at every possible turn. Villain can have emotions, but when he is consumed by doubts it makes him less interesting to watch. I don’t believe that Vader would’ve just stood and watched Obi-Wan being saved, when he was so close to his revenge, especially in such a theatric and poetic manner. The antagonists? Ruined. Unfocused. Inconsistent. Choreography.
Clearly the movies were superior in that regard as well as the cartoons. Here though? I didn’t felt Obi-Wan’s mastery, or how unexpected and dominant a Vader’s style would be. It’s just lazy work, an empty one. Not the fault of the actors, but certainly of the one who created these duels which have no soul, and no meaning. The flashback of Anakin and Obi-Wan training felt kind of out of place, but apart of bringing us the feeling of Star Wars, it wasn’t meaningless and had a message in it so it was a good move.
The last fight. No one seems to understand the reason why George wouldn't give Force Wielders to much power. But I think I know the answer. In one scene we see Vader unable to do something about the wall of fire, in another we see him crushing the ground beneath. Kenobi barely catches a girl, but then lifts massive amount of stones like a Mary Sue.
Conclusion.
In my review on Boba Fett I explained in details why his character was broken even before the show has began, by Dave Filoni who tried to make the cold blooded bounty hunter into a warrior following the medival code. And there is also a case of Luke Skywalker from The Last Jedi movie. The problem is always the same. Those who rule over company do not want seek professionals, giving them more time to do their work. Instead, there is a rush, a schedule, and the desire of a company to make more money in the expense of art and the nostalgia, while also manipulating the collective mind that there are so many racists out there and that only they don’t like the show, so that the producers can do whatever they want and if you won’t like it – you’re the racist. Or chauvinist. Or some other label that makes your opinion obsolete even if your criticism has a lot of weight.

Am I describing episode 4 of Star Wars or Episode 4 of Obi Wan Kenobi?

Since it's impossible to tell, take this as a warning to avoid the heap of steaming dung that Disney just pinched out here.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't see how the scores on Metacritic are averaging a 7 and up. The only episode that holds any meat up till now is episode 5. The rest has been boring and poorly directed. With terrible logistical decisions that will scratch anyones head. Like Leia outrunning 3 smugglers on snail pace (One smuggler is actually stopped because of a branch in her path). Or Obi Wan being able to escape because of a small fire that you could easily walk around. It tells me a lot about Disney. How out of touch they are they did not go big budget on this one. The only reason I can imagine as to why they made this a series instead of a movie is to have people be subscribed for at least 2 months to Disney+. They could've done so much more with this it's truly saddening. The empire is ruling. Obi wan is on the run. A fugitive. Could get caught at any moment. At no point in the series do you really sense any dread from Obi wan. There is no character study that goes deep into who obi wan is in this new day and age. He's not really a Jedi anymore. He should suffer from things like anxiety. Things probably new to him. The series never challenges itself. I'd imagine someone that lost everything would be remembering how things used to be. Or reminisce about the good old days. Like the old man he now is. None of that. Well a tiny bit. But it never feels authentic. Instead they shoehorn in an inquisitor with her own agenda. Which in itself could potentially be an interesting ark and worth a series on it's own. But the way the inquisitors are presented here, it's not very menacing. People should be terrified. They never feel dangerous. That and the catch me if you can theme with Leia... It all detracts from Obi Wan. There's a lot more things that feel off. Like no de-aging on Anakin while he is portrayed as a Padawan. Unbelievable escapes or confrontations with Storm Troopers. That actually look at obi wan and Leia and just ask some simple questions. How is the entire empire not up to date on a fugitive old man with a young girl? I hope for everyone including myself that the final episode will make it all worth it. But it will never get rid of the bad taste that the first few episodes have left. Expand

This doesn't even feel like Star Wars that we all grew up with. Disney has butchered the franchise to almost beyond recognition. Can't believe anyone who would give this a 10 has any kind of standards or knowledge when it comes to making a Star Wars spinoff, or shows in general. This is poorly made.

The only reason it deserves even a 4 and not a 1, is because it has Ewan and Hayden and Jimmy back from Episodes 1, 2 and 3, as well as James's voice as Vader.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. More bald recycling of old SW plot tropes (ob1 rescues a kidnapped princess from the cruel fortress where she is being imprisoned and tortured... narrowly escaping Vader's grip only to mourn the sudden loss of a member of the rescue party and then to be secretly tracked?) and a general pantomime feel to the entire proceedings leaves me less than impressed. This Obi-Wan, like the star of last year's Boba Fett and Luke Skywalker in SW8, has had all of the blood and colour drained out of him. The continuity doesn't truly fit into the established story canon either, which is just lazy. My low rating would be closer to zero but for Ewan McGregor's performance which is great, and the show's production design which is - as expected - outstanding. Expand

Another "hero is broken but get saved by younger female character", except it's the ultimate face-palming pair-up on Kenobi and 8-yr old Leia. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show has so many problems and not watchable at all. Where to begin?:

-Leia "running" away from the kidnappers in the forest?! Like how does a 10 year old run away from grown adults who "run" so slow and run into branches on purpose?! Really??
-Joke of a fight between Vader and obi wan. Obi wan is a coward who runs away with no skill whatsoever. What happened to him? How does he expect to train Luke and protect Luke in the future if hes such a bad fighter now?!
-Fire wall not stopping Vader, Vader not using the force to pull obi wan back into fire. Vader basically just letting them go.
-Obi wan and Leia trying to disable the laser gate when they could have obviously just walked around the gate!
-Tala slapping the storm trooper on the helmet and brings him down with a slap. really?
-Tala and the muffled choking of the troopers behind the machines. How can anyone not hear this!? so unbelievable.
-Obi Wan swimming in the ocean and coming out into the base, clothes dry, not wet at all, not dripping any water. Where did all the water go??! His clothes should be soaking wet! Also when obi wan escapes the hallway with flooded water and the door closes, no water comes out at all on the other side of door. Perfect timing from Tala! Congratulations! or maybe Obi Wan has magic clothes that repel water! Who knows with this show!?
-Obi wan hiding in a straight corridor from troopers who did not see him duck behind the wall. How the hell did the troopers not see him?!
-Obi wan hiding Leia in a trench coat! Who thought this was a good idea?! Practically and Visually ridiculous!
-Reva outsmarting Darth Vader while under a force choke. How did Reva know Leia would escape that she had the foresight to put a tracker on her droid? Darth should have killed Reva then and there, but no, she outsmarts him and lives.
-The Reva lightsaber deflections with the snow-speeder in the hanger. It was so awkwardly filmed and angled.
-The snow-speeder pilot dies and there's this long montage of sad faces. I'm sorry, are we supposed to feel sad for a character we just met briefly at the start of the show and know nothing about? The show is so badly directed and written with no attention to detail at all. It feels like just one scene moving onto the next scene with hardly any connection at all. Just set piece moving onto next set piece. This Leia kidnapping should have been over by episode 3. But this keeps dragging on with only 2 episodes left.
What role does Hayden have left? We barely saw him. Fans expected some dialogue and interaction, maybe a flashback with Hayden and Ewan. All we got was Hayden staring far away at Ewan. No interaction at all between the two actors. Hayden better have something to do in the last 2 episodes of the show.

This show was marketed with Hayden and Ewan heavily by Disney before the premiere, with some Reva and no mention at all of Leia. It was a bait and switch. This show is titled "Obi Wan", yet he's a side character. Reva should be a supporting character at best. I am so done with this show.

I made the mistake of thinking that this show would be about Obi-Wan Kenobi. My mistake. Disney should hire someone old enough to read a story before they try to write one. What a mess of utter senseless inarticulate shlock.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dumbest chase scenes in the history of cinema. In this universe, 10 year old kids have the sprinting power of a doped up olympic athlete. Villains are stopped by cloth awnings and small fires they could easily circumvent.

This show must of been produced by people with an institutional loathing for the human race. Proof? Despite seeing all the death and destruction wrought by Vader, Obi-Wan spares his life a SECOND TIME. Nonsensical to the extreme. It would have been so much more interesting to conceive of a scene where they were unable to fight and had some stimulating dialogue instead.

Most of the acting falls in the subpar to embarrassing range with the ironically enough the best performance coming from a brief cameo from Ewan McGregor's IRL daughter. I would say her performance, the Jedi vs Storms at the beginning and the second V vs. Obi Wan duel are the only redeeming moments in this otherwise insulting endeavour.

I DO NOT consider this steaming, heaping pile of garbage canon. Instead, it should be relegated to the trash compactor.

It has bad writing, some continuity errors and inconsistencies. For example Obi Wan is sometimes a weak coward and other times a badass that is an unstoppable force. Before the bigot, misogyny or homophobia accusation is used: No one has anything against gay, trans, black or diverse characters and this was also the case 20 years ago. Just as reminder: Remember anyone criticizing Moff Gideon, Cere Junda (Fallen Order), Lando Calrissian, Mace Windu or Dr. Aphra (comics)? No, because they are awesome characters and we want them to return in new stories. Instead we dislike boring or one dimensional characters, weak stories and misuse of characters we grew up and liked for years. Sadly Obi Wan has a lot of weaknesses. It does also not help that you know the outcomes. They cant kill or seriously harm a character that appears later in the movies. The main example is the final episode and the climax battles where no one could die. Just a few additional examples. In one a familiar character is threaten with death by light saber and there is an interrogation with seemingly dire consequences. Both fail because you know no one could die. Another example: The Grand Inquisitor has an awesome arc in Rebels which happens chronologically after the events of this show and I say they give the character redemption there so you can see the outcome from a mile away. Continuity wise there are a few problems too: The knowledge that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker is a huge secret only a few know and anyone who talks about it will die swiftly. He even killed his own squad when a fugitive Jedi spoiled this to them if I remember correctly. Also a certain Imperial base that is majorly important has no defense mechanisms. The general story feels often like doing check marks on a to do list. Insert Darth Vader here, a familiar character there, show the base from Fallen Order, tease this and that. When you look behind this attempt to bait nostalgia it is a weak show. Only episode 5 is anywhere near the quality you need and even it is sometimes silly and unbelievable. The final has some great moments that feel like Star Wars and I freely admit this. Then there are plot holes like my prime example: Entering a hugely protected secretive base without any reason to be there as subtle as a jack hammer (Making suspicious radio messages near other imperials), escaping while hundred of armed soldiers aim at you at an important base without defense weapons nor star fighters or changes of characters decisions because of a small dialogues that should not work (Roken helping Obi Wan). Also no one during the show notice Obi Wans face even when he is on the top wanted list and actively searched when he reappears or later that he hides a child under his imperial uniforms cloak and hundred of people fail to notice. Lets end this point here. I don't blame the actors for a weak script and misuse of the characters. I even enjoyed Reva especially after they get character development towards the end but they weaken her before with bad writing and predictability. I knew / predicted her backstory immediately. Also name something that defines her character outside her hate and obsession before the last 2 episodes. As example for the poor writing: Reva forgot that her light saber can open a blast door in seconds until it is needed storywise or that a dozen or more stormtroppers are in hearing distance when she talks to Obi Wan things that could harm her badly. This level of writing makes her look incompetent. Now imagine how her backstory and development would be handled by a more competed writer. She would be a fan and critic favorite. Maybe the show was too long in development struggles as it should be a movie, was rumored to be canceled and more. So I will not criticize anything further in this regard. Then there are moronic decisions by the characters like being unable to use the Imperial resources when necessary (reinforcement, ships, surveillance etc.), no one figures out guarding a dangerous prisoner with just 4 stormtroopers is moronic or sending an undecoded message that contains all information to be crucified if it gets in the wrong hands. Then there are the abrupt character competences changes like Obi Wan not being able to use the force without reasons (other than the script) but later going one man (Jedi) army. Darth Vader is later also affected by this and forgets he has his ship in orbit. The special effects are good as expected as are the fights (except an early one which breaks Obi Wan). Overall this was a disappointment and is not recommend for fans of Star Wars. Mandalorian shows how to do Star Wars right and outclasses this show on any level. The warning signs were there as they fired the “If you dislike this you are xxx” (Insert racist, misogynist or others) even before the first episode started. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is incredibly mediocre, they really dropped the ball, even though they were working with such talented actors and great characters, the writing just isn't compelling at all. I'd say the show overall has a single highlight, which is the inclusion of a flashback fight scene between Kenobi and Vader in episode 5 that mirrors the events happening in the present in that episode, everything else is just subpar.

Reva's arc is very uninteresting and nonsensical when you know her story (she's also written incredibly dumb and non-threatening at times), Kenobi's is not so bad, it's just re-learning how to become a Jedi, and Liam Neeson and Hayden Christensen are just wasted in this, they don't appear enough and their contribution is minimal.

Watch it once, you might get a kick out of the memes or the recognizable actors from the prequels that appear in it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The best thing about this series is the acting is fairly solid all round. It's just a shame the writers gave them nothing to work with. Obi-Wan is reduced to a pathetic version of himself and abandons his only job in episode one, Leia has no character growth (it would have been nice to see how she becomes headstrong and grows into the awesome woman she becomes) and Reva's plan for revenge only works because everyone reacts precisely as they need to to make it happen. Don't even get me started on her motivation ... she's spent the last 10 years killing men women and children just to get close to Vader to revenge the killing of men women and children. The most apathetic writing of any Star Wars show to date. Such a shame. It has a few fan service moments which are nice to enjoy but it could have been so much more. Disney are just churning out content, it's not art anymore. Expand

Too bad potentialThis series is average, the first episodes are lower and lower levels, with the apogee in the fourth installment, not what better episode VI does not save the series, at most it does not lose our time like the previous ones. Too bad potential is wasted. Instead of the story of the hermit who was to be Obi Wan Kenobi, we got the story of the Third Sister that no one asked for. That's the plot Disney sends us on for the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series. True, it has everything that belongs to Star Wars: lightsabers, the Force, Jedi, Darth Vader and the sands of Tatooine. But a real "Star Wars feeling" still doesn't come up. The series lacks the right music and size in its production - everything is as small as possible. Kenobi is a broken hero when we see him again in the first episode. The old white man has resigned, and only in the course of the plot does he regain his strength. The producers don't take the canon too seriously: Luke and Kenobi already meet here and the flashbacks between Anakin and Kenobi are supposed to give more depth to the conflict between the two characters, but they seem rather ridiculous. We all know how it ends between Obi and Darth Vader and who defeats Darth Vader in the end, why try to build suspense here where there is none? Hayden Christensen is too old as a young Anakin and Ewan McGregor is too young as Kenobi, considering he's the age of Sir Alec Guinness in Episode IV... there's a lot wrong with that. In general, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, but Vivien Lyra Blair as Leia outplays everyone. The series seems as if the only intention was to attract more subscribers to Disney+ with the big name "Obi-Wan Kenobi". With the thin plot, the desperate attempt to fit into the big story arcs, and the struggling actors, success is doubtful. Obi is one of the great characters in the Star Wars universe, and he deserves a better series with a more innovative plot. "The Clone Wars" has told so many good stories around Obi - that's the benchmark. And the new series fails completely. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disney has done Obi-Wan a disservice with 'Kenobi'. A prime example of the creative bankruptcy running rife through Western cinema and television. The writing for this show is appalling, especially considering the talent Disney can afford. Logic is thrown out the window and key details are not explained sufficiently meaning main plot points happen for....'reasons' rather than making sense and being well thought out. Evil characters are unnecessarily incompetent and Obi-Wan is relegated to being a side character in his own show at times. The directing style is also a mess. Numerous scenes play out as comedic when they are supposed to be serious. Examples of this include the chase scene in the forest where grown adults are unable to catch a child and are stopped by a small branch. Or when Obi-wan is walking through an imperial base with Leia under a great coat which numerous imperial personnel do not notice - it seems like a scene from 'Austin Powers'. Again, at no point has someone stopped to think, does this logically and realistically make sense. Yes it is a sci-fi but you need to ground your show in reality to make the setting believable. The cinematography is poor, often contrast is turned down so the scene is overly dark. Generally, it feels cheap overall as if the series was rushed. Surprising considering this story features Kenobi/Vader story.

Acting ranges from decent to laughable. Ewan McGregor does his best with a bad script. Moses Ingram acting is awful, she literally has one setting - angry and even that isn't convincing. Vivien Blair is competent but the writing for her character makes her unlikeable and annoying (this isn't the actresses fault).

Overall, a wasted opportunity that could have been so much more but let down by poor directing and writing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

After going Weeeeeee when we see Ewan on the screen as Obi-Wan, all else jumps into the picture and makes it bleak.

Apart from the actress portraying Leia, who delivers, everything else is at most mediocre.

The story is so simple and so easy to predict that it's just not fun at all. Yes, it's great to have both Obi-Wan and Vader on the screen at the same time, but the build-up, if you find any, just doesn't cut it.

The whole concept had some sense it in, but finally the show is just a rehash of what has already been done to the franchise many times earlier on.

Trying to piggyback on some of the iconic one-liners or Ewan & Hayden's presence is just not enough.

And the final episode makes one thing clear - whether this series existed or not, nothing really changes in our understanding or love for the the Skywalker saga or SW itself.

I believe this series suffered from a combination of over-hype, poor writing, poor directing, and just a Dash (Rendar) more of some over-hype.

I understand this is a sci-fi about space wizards, but the plot holes in the screenplay are just painful -- Children out running adults for miles (this happens more than once), scooby-do moments like hiding people in trench coats, and then just confused directing that feels like they were just going to fix it in post and never got to it.

I would say this is above average TV, but I scored it 5/10 because of the level of disappointment this series made me feel. All in all, it's not a bad series, but it felt like they should have brought in additional directors and screen writers to buff out some of the stupid.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Below average. There are a few cool moments, but that's all there is to this show. It's 5% cool moments, and 95% unadulterated nonsense. And none of the cool moments feel earned because the rest of the series is just a jumbled-up mess of something I can hardly call a plot.

This show promised so much and delivered so little. We did not need to have this much of a focus on Leia and Reva. If you want to make a show about them, great, go for it—but this was supposed to be McGregor and Christensen's time to shine on screen. And I feel like they never fully got the chance.

The payoff of Obi-Wan gaining back his powers also took way too long, which made him look like a bumbling idiot for 5 episodes out of 6. Nobody wants to see that.

Bad: Poor casting for Leia and Luke. Both those kids looked too young. Leia in particular pulled me out of the story every time she was in it. There was also this need to constantly push her on us. Loke Disney SW is teying erase Luke and Mary Sue Leia. Lot ofittle things like the snow speeders hovering and the remote base with no patrols guarding it. And finally, the plot was dull.

The prequels and the sequels just soured me on the jedi. That's why I liked the Mandalorian and Fett; no jedi.

At the same time, every scene with Vader is basically perfection, Ewan mcgregor is great and contains some of the best individual scenes in the entire Star Wars saga. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As of episode 4 (will update in the future) this show is a head scratcher for me, I like it but I don't love it, and it's getting more disapointing as we go. The CGI for the snowspeeders looked cheap. a 6 episode show shouldn't have it's 4th episode be a filler copy of episode 2, and this show is supposed to be about obi-wan but we're chasing leia and dealing with reva, who wasn't needed in this show. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely love the new Obi-Wan series. I have had so much fun and young Leia is the absolute best!! This show brings so much to the Star Wars universe that is much needed and helps fill a couple plot holes in the 4th Star Wars movie! I heavily recommend it to anyone! Expand

Yeah bad inconsistent writing...You know the kind..like "Hulk can smash a skyscraper to rubble but can break through a flimsy wooden door it's inconvenient for the plot."
I was so happy with the Mandalorian finally seeming to get Star Wars on track again after twenty years of abysmal story telling, but Obi-Wan Kenobi has returned it to it's old bad habits of piss poor inconsistent plot hole writing.

This series just has too many flaws to ignore. By that I mean that almost every movie or series has logic flaws or something like that, but when it's a string of them from beginning to end, it's just too many.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 4 episodes in, I'll update this review at the end. A good start but now this series seems to be meandering a lot. No Luke, it's all about Leia. Hayden Christensen has put in a brief appearance but nowhere near as much Anakin/Obi-wan interplay as I was expecting. Instead we get too much of the character Reva, who is boring and is always angry and shouting a lot. Indira Varma is excellent as the empire turncoat. Effects are surprisingly ropey and there have been a few cringe/lol moments (the infamous trenchcoat scene and the snowspeeders). Overall I'm becoming disappointed with this effort. It should have been amazing as we are all invested in the Obi_Wan/Darth Vader dynamic. As I write this it only has two episodes to pull it out of the bag. Is this turning into yet another Disney disappointment? Of the Disney efforts, I liked Rogue One, and Force awakens wasn't bad. Mandalorian had some great episodes. But everything else has been pretty terrible. If anything, it's making me appreciate the prequels even more. Although the dialogue was cringe they knew how to tell a story and they expanded the Star Wars universe. Expand

More garbage exploiting a beloved character in order to foist a new woke-approved character onto a gullible or ignorant audience. Cynical propaganda at its worst. I was done with Star Wars a long time ago, still these new barbs sting.

Once again, the Disney show is boring yet feels preachy. Legacy characters don't retain a shred of dignity and it generally feels ... just badly written. A waste of time.

I'm all for strong female leads, yes, but if you call the show Obi-Wan Kenobi (what a stupid name) and make him a weakling Beta Male, being led by a 10 year old girl and constantly rescued by not one, but two female frienemies, you deserve all the negative feedback. And no, it's not "racism" or "misogyny", it's just the most primitive way to push feminism with no regards to plot holes, characters and logic. It well deserves a 0 rating. At least be honest and call it "Star Wars - the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Reva!" or "Beta-Wan Kenobi". Expand
