Despite only consisting of seven levels and relying on players replaying them multiple times, I never got bored with Bleed. The additional enemies and increased challenge made each playthrough feel different and the brevity of the levels helped to constantly provide a sense of progression. Of course, the smooth controls and exciting 2D shooting action didn't hurt either.

Sometimes, playing a game from decades ago is more gratifying than picking up the latest and supposedly greatest games. Working through the massive campaign is such a blast and I couldn't recommend Forsaken Remastered enough for fans of the genre.

I had a wonderful time with Temtem: Swarm and it's easily one of my favourite Survivors-likes so far; definitely play it, chums! It's so cute.

I thoroughly enjoyed Astor: Blade of the Monolith. It may not be ground-breaking but what's here will entertain you for many hours.

Juggling attacks and skills as you gradually make it further through its variety of stunning environments makes Absolum one rewarding brawler.

Super Meat Boy 3D modernises the 2D classic in such a fleshed-out and meaty way that it's really quite scrumptious what they cooked up.

Agartha-S reminded me of the times I'd blindly rent a NES game as a kid then become pleasantly surprised upon playing it. It's truly a hidden gem for Switch and I highly recommend it whether you're into retro-style games or just looking to play something unique.

Kirby Star Allies offers plenty of classic adorable Kirby action with oodles of exciting abilities to discover. It may not be the most fulfilling game in the long-running series but there's no denying just how much fun there is to be had.

My main gripe is that Monster Hunter Wilds plays too similarly to previous entries but there's still a lot to love including its thrilling hunts against creative monsters, weapon and build diversity, and, of course, the chance to pet Poogie.

Toy Trains is one of my new favourite PlayStation VR2 games with its wondrous world, oodles of charm, and satisfying gameplay.

Unfortunately, Half-Genie Hero isn't Shantae's finest moment but that doesn't mean that it isn't a great game. Any 2D platformer fan should definitely pick it up as it's one of the genre's best.

Crashlands strikes the perfect balance between the unforgiving Don't Starve and the laidback Minecraft to create a fun survival game.

Fans of rhythm games or Avicii or both definitely need to play Avicii Invector with its unique and creative spin on the genre.

Although it's been kicking around a while, Rock Boshers DX: Director's Cut is a great retro-inspired game that holds up impressively well.

Oaken is one of the best-looking and sounding indie games I've played this year and its strategic elements are wonderfully fleshed-out.

War Theatre made me initially hesitant but once I got to grips with its challenging and rewarding gameplay, I was hooked.

If you enjoy optical illusions and perspective-altering puzzles then Superliminal is definitely a must-play experience.

I'm happy that I played Please Fix The Road as it's simply one of the best puzzle games released in recent years so get paving, dear chum.

Last Labyrinth is simply a wonderful VR game for escape room enthusiasts with its challenging puzzles and dire situations.

I enjoyed Another Crab's Treasure more than I thought I would thanks to its tight combat, sense of variety, and hilarious use of humour.

For a console shmup from 1994, Cotton 100% has held up exceptionally well with its distinct style and enjoyable magic-based gameplay.

From its cute collectible hats to its memorable and lighthearted game world, Little Kitty, Big City is bursting with charm and laidback fun.

If your bumbum needs more puzzles to fart on then Billy Bumbum: A Cheeky Puzzler will make you grin from cheek to cheek.

With lots of levels to master and clever complexities that get introduced along the way, Treasure Temples is quite a fulfilling puzzle game.

As a spin-off of a highly underrated game, Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara is a lovely 3D platformer that's full of charm and heart.

I've never played anything quite like Dungeons of Dreadrock 2 - The Dead King's Secret before and its cleverness really makes it shine.
