With a combat system supported by a huge amount of possibilities to customize your runs, memorable boss fights and excellent pixel art, Astral Ascent is a must-have for roguelite fans.

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is, at best, a mediocre base-building and environmental exploration game, but most of the time it does everything worse when compared to other similar works. Add the disappointing combat experience, a forgettable story and lackluster aesthetics, and you have something that is bad as a game, even worse as part of a universe as incredible as the one created by Tolkien.

Train Valley 2 not only maintains the strengths of its predecessor, but also brings small changes and new features that make the title even more challenging. For puzzle or simulation fans, it's a guarantee of many hours of good gameplay.

Have a Nice Death is a challenging roguelite, but also a lot of fun. Even though its randomness can be frustrating in some cases, the huge variety of build alternatives and the excellent combat system are capable of keeping you motivated to overcome these adversities.

Born of Bread is one of the biggest surprises of the year. An initially simple RPG, but one that captivates with each new mission and companion we encounter. In addition to the visuals heavily inspired by Paper Mario, the game brings a lightness that I haven't found in a title of this genre for some time. Fun, with delicious exploration, combat that works, an excellent soundtrack and full of pop culture references, Born of Bread is a game that deserves attention and that fulfills its main objective: to entertain and, at the end of the day, leave us with a smile on his face.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is a very worthy adaptation of this universe for games, even if it gets lost in the DualSense interface. The linearity and contained scope of the adventure may bother those expecting a large-scale RTS. But with expectations in the right place, there's plenty to enjoy here.

Even though it is still limited by genre trends, Roots of Pacha builds a farming simulator with its own personality by centralizing the theme of community in its optimistic and relaxing campaign. Unfortunately, this didn't extend to multiplayer, which is online only and doesn't allow you to share the screen locally with your loved ones.

The Awakened King develops the story of the world of Losomn and adds a good amount of items and content to Remnant II. That's enough to keep players entertained for a while longer with what was already one of the best action games of the year.

Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections finally brings the entire saga of its protagonist to a game, along with a multitude of iconic characters from the franchise. Its mechanics and aesthetics, however, recycle everything that was already present in previous games, with qualities and defects, which should please long-time fans and put off anyone else.

Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn delivers a lot of extra content and manages to delve even deeper into the history of the people of Dehna and Rena, making it a mandatory DLC for anyone who loved spending hours on end helping Alphen and his friends in the main campaign.

Dead Island 2: Haus stands out for maintaining the game's basic structure and presenting a new, uncompromising story. With a short duration and little beyond the basics, it lacks enough content to justify a return to the game.

Barton Lynch Pro Surfing is definitely a game made by surfers for surfers. Even though its technical part is below what we expect from a game nowadays, the gameplay is fun and represents the feeling of surfing very well.

KarmaZoo has a proposal that in practice only works when playing with friends. It's almost impossible to complete and have fun with randoms. In the end, it's an interesting platform game, with a unique concept, but honestly only worth playing with people you know.

Worldless stands out for its vibrant visual aesthetic and strategic challenges in turn-based battles. The abstract approach to the plot and the lack of detailed explanations can be frustrating, requiring discovery through trial and error. The experience offers intense moments, in which precise timing is crucial. Backtracking encourages exploration and solving challenges with new skills, despite some frustrating elements regarding understanding the mechanics.

The Last Faith steps into the ambivalence of familiarity: while it fulfills its promise of aptly mixing metroidvania and soulslike, it never really surprises or innovates. Although the campaign is challenging, its good pace of shortcuts, fast travel and leveling up pushes us to advance further and further through its gothic world of beautifully detailed pixel art.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 makes mistakes in practically every possible aspect, from the campaign with questionable design and shallow story, to the uninteresting zombies mode and even its classic competitive multiplayer mode, delivering much less than expected. Little is really original and the game looks more like a reuse of parts from Warzone to create a new product to be sold at full price.

Haunted House is exactly what you expect from a conventional roguelite, favoring stealth over direct combat. Abusing a cartoonish artistic style, it offers good but sometimes unstable mechanics, as well as a solid but repetitive and not always rewarding progression model.

Persona 5 Tactica is a great Tactical RPG, bringing another good story with the iconic group of Phantom Thieves, a mystery that will keep you interested in its resolution and explores a new gameplay style not yet seen in the franchise, although not very challenging. If you are a fan of the series, this is another spin-off that will please you and introduces an addictive new genre.

When played just for fun, Teardown is an excellent destruction experience, with your imagination being the limit to create the most varied situations. Unfortunately, part of this is limited by a repetitive campaign mode that can become frustrating on many occasions.

Berzerk: Recharged is fun for a limited time and gets it right by using strong arcade game elements. However, a bolder approach would guarantee an even larger audience for the Atari classic in its new version.

The Talos Principle 2 is a masterpiece that ventures into ingenious puzzles and the philosophical universe of deep questions. Even though it is aimed at audiences looking for exciting, challenging and honest intellectual stimulation, this is a less intimidating experience than it may seem, thanks to the flexibility to progress through the campaign and the certainty that each puzzle already contains everything necessary to solve it. Few games have given me so much satisfaction with the beauty of seeing everything connect and make sense of the riddles, making me run to the next. This is one of the best games of 2023 and I'm humbly delighted to see its existence.

DreamWorks Trolls Remix Rescue is a collection of generic and uninspired solutions that try to sustain itself through the charisma of a franchise much loved by children. It fails narratively, aesthetically and, above all, in fun factor.

The universe created in World of Horror deserves to be checked out, especially for its peculiar mechanics. The different stories, accompanied by a competent soundtrack and art direction, make the experience pleasant and interesting for a while. It's a shame, however, that the mysteries don't have as many ramifications, which can make the game repetitive after a few hours.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a natural evolution of the first title, bringing more modes and notable graphic polish. Unfortunately it still doesn't do enough to differentiate itself from the competition, but it's a great option for PlayStation players looking for a platform fighting game.

EA Sports WRC delivers an incredible legacy of the WRC, with new features that should entertain players who are fans of rally games. It has visual limitations, incompatible with the current generation, whose customization proposal tries to overcome existing flaws. It stands out, but with limitations.

VISCO Collection is a collection that helps preserve VISCO's gaming history. Some titles are very fun (Bang Bead, FlipShot and Neo DriftOut), while others are average (Goal! Goal! Goal!, Ganryu and Andro Dunos) or terrible (Captain Tomaday).

Despite not being suitable for beginners, Like a Dragon Gaiden is a spin-off made for fans that fulfills its objective: it delivers a narrative wrapped in a rollercoaster of emotions with traditional beat'em up gameplay and dozens of secondary activities. Following the franchise's classic formula, the game entertains, excites and raises expectations even further for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

CYMACHINA is an RPG with interesting ideas and good combat that ends up suffering from excessive repetitiveness in its enemy and map designs, as well as a story that ends up tripping over itself a little.

The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone knows exactly what it aims for and how to make it work. With a story typical of the good old days of the animation, charismatic protagonists and simple and effective mechanics, it's a light and fun game, as long as you don't expect more than what it sets out to offer.

DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing is fun and shows that the developers cared about animation fans. However, it limits itself as just another game of the genre that only copies a successful formula, without the necessary potential to stand out.

Ebenezer and the Invisible World charms with its hand drawn visuals and fantasy narrative. While it's well above the ordinary metroidvania in these two aspects, the same cannot be said about other features. The fights are no more than average, the world design can be discouraging with backtracking and the small fonts can be annoying. Those who like the graphic style, Victorian stories and A Christmas Carol will have a lot to appreciate here, which can compensate for the perception that the gameplay does not stand out in the genre.

Achilles: Legends Untold honors the legacy of both the character who stars in the game and the good references from which the production draws inspiration. Beautiful and enjoyable to play, it has its own heels, but, precise and efficient as the hero, it surprises as one of the best works in the genre.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures Deluxe offers an immersive experience for simulation enthusiasts. With several game modes, the opportunity to create custom roller coasters and challenges in varied settings, players can immerse themselves in managing their parks. However, despite some additions since the original 2018 game, the title does not bring any revolutionary innovations.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R is a great remake of not only an excellent Action RPG, but one of the best and most influential games from the golden age of JRPGs. With a unique and pleasant look, considerable new features in its gameplay that will keep even long-time players engaged and several quality of life improvements, Star Ocean: The Second Story R is a must-have for fans of the genre.

Alan Wake 2 is the result of all the experience that Remedy has accumulated over the last ten years. Surreal, scary and simply excellent, it's an experience that will live in my head for years to come.

RoboCop: Rogue City has several problems that consist more of a general lack of technical polish and the use of a dated overall game structure. Despite this, it respectfully delivers a good setting for a classic character, respecting the original material and with good doses of fun.

Mail Time is a short and sweet game for those who want the peaceful experience of exploring a small open world while engaging with fun characters and doing favors. Although it fells like it could be more ambitious and lacks polish in some areas, the tale of the young mail deliverer's first day on the job is interesting and playful. It's like an illustrated book that you can hop in to jump, glide and relax.

Quantum Error's proposal was interesting, but the final product delivers a confusing and meaningless narrative, harsh gameplay, poor level design and generic enemies. Only with a good discount and many fixes to risk venturing into the Nomad complex.

There's a good game within Archetype Arcadia, but with its inflated playtime, inconsistent art and a premise that's not that original, what's left shouldn't please most gamers.

Wizard With a Gun is a special survival and crafting experience, with clever mechanics and constant challenges. Players have the freedom to create their approaches and progress in randomly created worlds.

EA Sports UFC 5 is an excellent improvement over the previous game, maintaining much of the already solid foundation of the previous game and bringing welcome visual improvements, combat adjustments and game modes capable of making the experience even more fun.

The Gap invites us to follow Joshua's journey in search of a cure for an illness that affects his family. Exploring his memories and finding clues that will trigger even more memories, this "narrative walking simulator" delivers an intriguing, engaging and exciting story. With an ideal duration, The Gap provides us with an excellent experience on the same level as titles like Tacoma and Call of the Sea.

Ghostrunner 2 shines with its new features, however, it sticks to the old successful formula. It has decent moments of inspiration, balanced with a familiar repetitive system. Challenging in its essence, it returns even more frenetic, fun and daring.

Endless Dungeon proves that mixing different game genres can work. With a good evolution of scenarios and a constant feeling of progression, Endless Dungeon will keep you motivated to play it for many runs.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged improves everything that was already great about its predecessor, adding game modes and mechanics to offer more diversity and quality of life to a simple but very entertaining game.

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is the biggest proof of how amazing the series is when its elements click and bring it back to the right direction after some missteps. Combat, story, characters and setting all work together to make it one the best game in the whole franchise.

Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur is fun, engaging, has an impressive variety of abilities, and is accessible to players new to roguelikes. With an interesting story, it will provide moments full of action, without making the experience too challenging and frustrating.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 improves on the original in every way: a more focused and engaging story, varied missions, a very agile travel system and combat on epic scale.

Sonic Superstars is a good Sonic game that manages to capture the essence of the Genesis titles. Fun can be found in both single and multiplayer. However, the price of the package is a little above considering the amount of content that is offered.

Poorly executed, uncreative, with restricted progress and co-op being the only reason for its fun, PAYDAY 3 is a difficult recommendation even for fans of the franchise.

Lords of the Fallen is full of good ideas and has the qualities to be a great Soulslike. But, in order to reach its full potential, some enemy mechanics and technical issues must be addressed.

Bang-On Balls: Chronicles offers engaging and challenging gameplay that captivates players, resulting in the desire to play more. The diversity of maps and collectibles add depth to the game, encouraging exploration and character customization. However, the lack of clarity in objectives can be confusing for players, while camera issues detract from the experience.

In Cocoon, the strangely beautiful alien setting is a meticulously well-done job that, in general, compensates for the minimalism of the almost non-existent narrative structure. The journey is filled with puzzles that work with the elegant cohesion of a living organism, flowing in an experience that, on the one hand, is harmonious and rich, but, on the other, is simpler and more contained than it should be.

With a nostalgic DNA, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails remaster should please Falcom's longtime fans, but newer fans might not adjust to the "loop" and restrictions from the original release.

As a celebration of the series' 40th anniversary, Super Bomberman R 2 leaves an empty feeling, seeming like a simple patch or DLC of its predecessor and that there is still room for evolution in the series. However, the game offers a solid multiplayer experience, especially in local mode, showing once again that this is the franchise's greatest strength.

Avatar The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance is a pile of shallow ideas implemented in a simplistic and clumsy way. The narrative and visuals make little use of the rich base material, the exploration is bland and the combat system is an insult. In the end, a big disappointment.

Everhood: Eternity Edition brings intense rhythm challenges, good electronic music, a surrealist story and lots of psychedelia. Fortunately, difficulty options help make this trip more accessible to those who want the dreamlike experience without suffering (too much) with the required reflexes. It may not be for everyone, but its peculiarities will surely appeal to the target audience.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is an excellent homage to the past and a well-realized title in its own merits. Evoking elements that made the franchise a huge success and marrying them with several of the improvements made in recent games, it is a great game and it has a beautiful approach to telling the story of one of the most intriguing characters in the franchise: Basim.

NASCAR Arcade Rush is exactly what it promises, delivering a simplified and casual racing game without any specialized complications or the like. Using colors in a charming visuals, it offers a light and simple gameplay, perfect for lazy afternoons, but far from the sophistication that many motorsport fans expect.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is another excellent chapter in a franchise full of them. Mixing a great musou combat with a rich and exceptionally developed story, a well-established mythology and very well built characters, the title is easily one of the most welcome and surprising games of 2023.

Pizza Possum delivers on its promises as the arcade looting chaos is a lot of fun. This game is a well-made arcade feast that's even better for those who want to steal food as a couple in co-op mode. However, like all delicious and ephemeral food, it leaves you wanting more.

Baldur's Gate 3 has reached the pinnacle of RPG games. With an engaging turn-based combat system, rewarding exploration, and some of the best narrative and character development, Baldur's Gate 3 is one of those games that we'll remember for many years to come.

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps and Beans 2 is a tribute to fans of Bud and Terence, whose nostalgia and references to the famous duo provide the necessary quality to conquer a space among indie games focused on the retro pixel art style. The unique characteristics full of humor, associated with the dynamics between protagonists and antagonists, is the difference that signals the game's extravagant personality.

MythForce had everything to please an entire generation that grew up falling in love with the peculiar aesthetics of adventurous animations from the 1980s and 1990s, but unfortunately the inspirations remained only in the concept. As soon as the game starts, it only presents us with a generic roguelite journey devoid of any emotion.

Despite not delivering what it promised and sounding like a step backwards after so many new experiences developed by Experience, Mon-Yu still manages to deliver the core experience and entertain fans familiar with the genre.

The Crew Motorfest is a great addition to the franchise, but it's also a title that may disappoint some fans, especially those who continued playing its predecessor for so long. Although the game is full of fun activities, the focus on multiplayer may leave many unwilling to follow the continuous evolution that will come in the coming months and years.

Separate Ways is a great expansion, bringing an additional campaign to one of the best titles of 2023. In addition to completely reinventing the mode from the PS2 era, the DLC brings new features to the gameplay and manages to deliver a complete package when we take the base game into account.

If we look at The Crackpet Show: Happy Tree Friends Edition as a game dedicated to the famous characters that made their mark decades ago, it certainly owes a lot because it takes little advantage of its qualities beyond the visuals. As a roguelike shooter that mixes comedy, cuteness and gratuitous violence, however, there is a lot of fun here for fans of the genre.

Agatha Christie - Hercule Poirot: The London Case follows the footsteps of its predecessor and delivers an excellent mystery worthy of the author's best works. With simple mechanics and an unstable look, however, its best qualities lie in the way the investigation is conducted and in the twists and turns that only good stories in this genre can provide.

Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai is a good game adapting an anime, but a relatively shallow Action RPG. Although there is a lot of content here (especially if you are a fan of the franchise), the game only recreates the anime's narrative, the combat is too simple and its most unique mode ends up tiring due to its repetitiveness.

With even better gameplay, more intuitive menus and modes that allow you to get to the field as quickly as possible, this is ultimate proof that the name change doesn't matter - the quality remains the same.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, when combined with update 2.0, brings a series of new features and adjustments to the original game. Some of its worst technical problems are resolved, adding new narrative layers, improving problematic systems and, finally, taking the game to the level we expected at launch.

Days of Doom is a fun mix between roguelite and tactical RPG that keeps you entertained largely due to its simplicity. Although the game manages to capture the feeling of wanting to play just one more run, its simplicity also ends up limiting the time you can enjoy it.

After almost 25 since their original releases, Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles finally brings two good RPGs from the PS1 and PS2 that were exclusive to Japan to modern consoles. Although they are not unmissable games, both bring several unique elements that make them very fun and will captivate fans of the genre who have never played them.

Mortal Kombat 1 has fun gameplay with several combo route options thanks to Kameos. However, Invasions mode gets boring quickly and the final arc of Story mode doesn't please either. Character customization should have been better after what we've seen in other NetherRealm Studios games and the absence of the Krypt is notable.

NBA 2K24 is, at the same time, an incredible basketball simulator at its best on the court and a game plagued by its excessive effort to sell microtransactions to players. While all modes deliver a lot of content, their success largely depends on your tolerance for someone trying to sell you something all the time.

Lies of P combines elements from Soulsborne games, adds some of its own ideas and puts it all in a very well-set version of a dark world, inspired by one of the most recognizable stories in classic literature. Some of its combat mechanics may take a little more time to get used to, but that doesn't take away from Lies of P its merits of being one of the best Soulslikes released recently.

WrestleQuest is a fun tribute to one of the most important eras of wrestling. Its narrative and combat have good ideas and fun execution, yet it fails to reach a higher level thanks to some frustrating design choices that make the game excessively repetitive.

A competent visual novel, with an engaging story and unique artstyle, ANONYMOUS;CODE delivers a solid experience, even if, in some aspects, implement already known story beats from past SciADV titles.

Firewall Ultra is a simple game, with few modes at launch and a very long matchmaking. Furthermore, the gameplay barely explores the capabilities of VR. With the promised support, Firewall Ultra may be better in the future, but it's difficult to recommend it at the moment.

In an attempt by the developer to reach a wider audience, Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten brings a lot of flaws as a JRPG, with the story being one of its only redeeming qualities.

Ashina: The Red Witch expands a story told in other games, but works by itself as a supernatural mystery tale that may please those who like Japanese folklore, even without being especially remarkable. The gameplay is kept to a minimum of finding and delivering items and its simplicity hinders the pace at times when the player would rather continue the story instead of making exchanges that don't seem relevant. Recommended for anyone who wants a playfully dark tale in retro game form and for those who enjoyed My Big Sister and Red Bow.

Alice Escaped! is a typical metroidvania in its essence. The title adapts a classic work of world literature to games without, however, losing a certain identity based on the charisma of its characters acting collaboratively and the enchantment provided by this very specific reading of Lewis Carroll's world.

Despite little innovation and certain attempts that ended up not working out very well, How 2 Escape got it right when it comes to console-app interaction between players. There are several areas with different puzzles and environments, which can deliver a few hours of entertainment. The difficulty of solving some puzzles, however, can be discouraging for some.

Although it is not the version expected by many players, Red Dead Redemption shows strength as one of the best games of all time. The 2023 version is the most stable option, but it could be much better.

The Making of Karateka is a history lesson. A complete package for those who want to get to know Jordan Mechnerâ's first works. The "making of" part is great and bringing the different versions is essential for preservation. However, for those looking for gameplay and don't care about this historical side, you may be disappointed that we basically only have two very short games. In addition, there are no support for Brazilian Portuguese, which makes accessibility to the "making of" material difficult in our country.

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is more of the same, and we love it exactly for that reason. Players who are familiar with the adventures of Zoya, Pontius and Amadeus know exactly what to expect and will certainly leave satisfied. And for players who aren't, this is an opportunity to embark on a magical world filled with puzzles. The experience is even better when shared with friends, either in local or online co-op.

Madden NFL 24 is a great game limited by a series of small issues that significantly affect the experience. While certain issues have been resolved and clear improvements are seen in the gameplay, the game modes and menus either remain the same or are worse and, along with some small hiccups that persists, limit the game's potential.

Quake II is a great remaster, with plenty of content and an impeccable job to bring a classic back. The multiplayer is fun, especially the entire campaign in co-op.

With well-crafted writing, engaging and dynamic battles and luxurious pixel art embellished by vivid lighting, Sea of Stars nails the test of being a turn-based RPG that's both retro and modern. We can still notice some small outdated legacies of the genre, but that doesn't affect the pleasure of embarking as young heroes to save the world in an epic and witty campaign worthy of the new old days.
