WrestleQuest, more so than any other game in recent memory, reminded me that I was human. Where it’s easy to succumb to powerlessness, this experience somehow inspires me to fight back against the ills of society, like Muchacho Man fought against those who would see him fail — yet, he persisted. There are plenty of reasons to play this game over and over again (I was a Face the first go-round and am curious to see how things shake out as a dastardly Heel), but one thing’s for sure: this is a must-play for any gamer looking to laugh, hit a backbreaker on some fools, and triumph over insurmountable forces that will bend to your machismo.

WrestleQuest is a fantastic homage to the wrestling scene of the ’80s and early ’90s, and expertly crafts that persona for its world. However, the slow pacing in and out of combat and various bugs dampen things. Fans of classic wrestling will delight in all the references, but players who don’t have nostalgia for the subject material will still find much to enjoy here, even if it’s not as tight an experience as it should be.

WrestleQuest is a fun tribute to one of the most important eras of wrestling. Its narrative and combat have good ideas and fun execution, yet it fails to reach a higher level thanks to some frustrating design choices that make the game excessively repetitive.

Forget your 2Ks and your Fight Forevers, if you want to experience fun and surprisingly authentic pro-wrestling action in 2023 then WrestleQuest is by far your best bet. Wax your back, coat yourself in baby oil, and prepare your promo, because WrestleQuest is the pro-wrestling RPG love-fest you never knew you always needed.

While WrestleQuest’s well written and heartfelt story combined with it’s fun 16-bit throwback sprites look like it’s getting ready for a Royal Rumble, the combat and the game breaking bugs get it launched out of the ring almost immediately. There’s potential here for a killer game here, but it needed to spend more time in gym before making it’s debut.

While I did enjoy the small portions of the game I was able to play, the aesthetic and the overall charm the game seems to ooze at all times,While I did enjoy the small portions of the game I was able to play, the aesthetic and the overall charm the game seems to ooze at all times, plus all the homages to 80s and 90s wrestling greats, there's absolutely no way I can recommend the game in the state they've released it in. Bugs and glitches run rampant, especially with the save slots, and I've been unable to progress with 3 different saves now, all at different points early in the game due to a massive game crashing problem that seems to happen randomly. I don't know how much this is affecting other platforms, but, for PS5, stay far away from this game for now until it's given a patch to make it playable again. Expand
