Forza Horizon 5 is a great port of a game that you wouldn’t believe is almost four years old. Panic Button have ported Playground Games impressive 2021 open world racer to PS5 and it might well be the most fun we’ve ever had with a driving game on Playstation outside our beloved Bernard Paradise. The Drivatar difficulty is a bit hit and miss though and we did feel a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of objectives on the in-game map but they are minor foibles all told. Bring on Forza Horizon 6!

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is not only a return to form for the storied franchise but a whole new beast in itself. It not only ups the ante in regards to scares but also plays the smart card as well. The game not only shows that Capcom still have what it takes, it also exceeds the expectations that were set by the impressive marketing campaign. If you are a survival horror fan, VR fan or both, then Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is essential.

Windbound presents itself as a serene experience, full of gorgeous locales and charming visuals. Underneath this nomadic glamour, hides a core of rogue-like brutality and the ever-present threat of death, with an inevitable restart to the beginning coming to those who brazenly disregard the dangers. This difficulty will divide many, but with perseverance, the game turns into an experience worth taming, with rewarding exploration, fun seafaring gameplay and a constant sense of rewarding progression.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall successfully brings a 4X title to consoles. The manual combat can slow things down too much and there's a learning curve to tackle, but the controls generally do the trick and there is so much content here for a solo player that you'll lose dozens of hours to it and still have much more to explore.

Aliens: Dark Descent does a great job of combining the feel, suspense and horror of the films with some solid RTS mechanics and we've enjoyed playing it more than any other game inspired by the film franchise. It's just a shame that a few legacy bugs from the PC version have made their way over to the PS5 version. That spoils things for early adopters but in a few patches time, this could end up being the best Alien game yet.

Despite the change of developer, TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3 continues the series' upward trajectory. Focusing on the island itself for an impressive backdrop works wonders, even if performance doesn't always hold up. The long-awaited remaster of THPS3 arrives and proves why the original was one of the best games ever made. We're not sure the THPS4 levels bring as much to the party and the overall structure of the game makes everything a bit of a repetitive slog. But the classic Tony Hawk's gameplay, and the significant visual upgrade, make this a winner regardless.

Holdfast: Nations At War is fun mess. As a battle for territory, it struggles to coordinate the large player count. Enemy soldiers can be tricky to spot at a distance and a packed fort can leave very little room for shots. What it does offer is an absurd scenario where players will find a role to play and commit to the bit. I have had some unforgettable, stupid moments with this game and the willingness of the community to play along delivers something unique.

Jazzpunk is an absurd, quick-fire joke machine that holds its end of the bargain for the two-hour duration. Its sense of style remains strong and consistent throughout. There’s a lack of replay value beyond finding any gags you’ve overlooked but I can’t help but admire how different and funny this is. It’s brilliantly executed and carries a jaunty, playful tone that keeps things moving. If you're in the mood for a good story, Cats and the Other Lives should suffice. Whilst the game does take place over three long days, very little of it feels wasted. There's a lot to discover about Bernard and his family whilst Aspen provides plenty of opportunities for mischief. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is more of the same and that's not a bad thing. People who have yet to sample the delights of the series should start at the beginning but fans of the series, and JRPG genre, are sure to be drawn back in to Rean's tale before eagerly awaiting part four.

Accessible but with a surprising level of depth, Super Mega Baseball 2 has managed to improve on the original with a very customisable experience. Some AI fielding anomalies aside, the sport is well represented in a bright fashion whilst remaining grounded enough to appeal to fanatics. It's a shame the online component is so limited but solo players can enjoy what is robust package.

Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion is a good combination of match three mechanics with dungeon crawling aspects, but is hamstrung a little by the harsh difficulty you’ll encounter in the second chapter. Some mechanics aren’t that well explained, but when the game is as addictive as chocolate coated peanut butter crack pieces, you’ll let it slide as we did.

Vampyr is the most unique RPG we've played in years. It may not be the slickest or most beautiful but it has a charm that makes the game much more than the some of its parts.

Inkulinati is an entertaining strategy puzzle game with an interesting medieval graphical style. Only in this game could a snail prove to be the most powerful unit on the battlefield. The campaign lends itself well to multiple replays. Plus there’s local hotseat multiplayer. Get to it.

Still Wakes The Deep is more than just a walking simulator in the tradition of Rapture or Esther. It nails the feel of bleak 1970’s Scotland to a tee and while everything goes to hell in a handbasket, your man Caz somehow managed to maintain his composure. Very much recommended.

Tethered is a fresh and welcome idea for PSVR that provides a worthy and challenging RTS experience. It capably proves that the genre is not only functional but also an incredibly good fit for VR hardware. If you were ever a fan of god sims then Tethered is worth your time.

We should have expected nothing less than this level of surrealism from the developers of Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Bugsnax is about as weird as they come. Yet, underneath all the cutesiness, strangeness and edible bugs there is a surprisingly deep, heartfelt storyline with a mystery worth solving.

Fatal Frame / Project Zero - Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a fair update of a 2008 Wii game that does a solid job bringing it to a new audience. Sure, it's not a brand-new main series entry, but it's good. Just don't try and run in the game, it's more of an exaggerated shuffle.

Yooka-Laylee is a fun retro styled 3D platformer with the buckets of wit and charm that made Rareware games so much fun to play, but along for the ride is a somewhat combative camera system that occasionally gets in the way. If you can overcome this then Yooka-Laylee is an excellent trip down memory lane for fans of Banjo-Kazooie and similar titles.

As someone coming back to the game eighteen months after release I have to say, if A Walk in the Park made me look back on The Surge fondly, then The Good, The Bad And The Augmented reminded me of the less appealing aspects of the base game.
