With its nods to gaming classics of yesteryear, Special Ops really is a blast. It's not a full-blooded action title, and it certainly doesn't have the depth of a traditional RTS, but it does lie somewhere happily between the two, occupying its own little niche. Put simply, it's an awful lot of fun, and that's as much as anyone can ask for.

Our only complaint involves pausing and then restarting the game, with zero time in between to regain one's bearings; fixable in an update perhaps. Aside from that relatively small issue, Bobbing is one of the most challenging games we've played. It would have felt right at home on classic consoles. That being said, it's a great fit for iOS and Android devices.

There's simply no excuse to not buy N+.

It's just as much a kick-ass military shooter as its console brethren.

We have nothing but positive things to say about the spectacle. Having such a graphically-rich title on iPhone and iPad screens is remarkable. At the same time, and if we expect video games to grow up, publishers need to invest the same effort into the other components, especially when dealing with the fourth entry of a popular franchise.

As a toy, rather than a game, there's no denying that Little Inferno's sandbox is a satisfying one that will entertain for a time. But in hammering home its message just a little too forcefully, it also lacks a certain amount of graceful bite, and as a result it doesn't quite touch the greatness it might otherwise have achieved.

Factor in some catchy music, and Time Surfer is one heck of a satisfying package. These are the types of simple and addictive games we play for hours on end throughout any given year, and that being the case, we hope it finds a hungry audience that can't resist one more slice.

Eternity Warriors 3 isn't just the best game in Glu Mobile's action series, it's also one of the better free-to-play games on the market.

Final Fight One's AI is cheaper than a bottle of discount wine.

An addictive, entertaining affair that takes a little bit of patience and learning to get down the basics. Once learned, however, you'll be hooked in no time flat and unwilling to turn a cold shoulder to it.

Overall, it's a lot of fun, especially as you unlock achievements and post high scores through Game Center, but you'll need a certain level of patience to deal with constant restarts that make iStunt 2 more of a stop and go experience; it definitely puts a damper on the action.

It's a bit repetitive, and with only three environments, visually limited, but Major Mayhem delivers thrilling arcade style fun. Worth a buck? Absolutely.

Unlock the full game and have a blast. We certainly hope more (and free) levels are on the way.

There's no doubt that Dungeonism won't be to everyone's tastes. With its pretty but primitive graphics and sound, not to mention its roguelike flavors which give death an air of inevitability, you'll need an appetite for exploration and experimentation to get the most out of this experience. If that sounds like your cup of tea though, Dungeonism might just end up being one of your favorite games of 2013.

The only thing working against Bleach: Dark Souls is familiarity. You've seen most of these options before in Blade of Fate. Aside from that, this is a true winner for fans of the anime, Treasure fanatics and fighting purists.

League of Evil 2 offers more of the same, which is definitely a good thing, since the first title is so much fun. For just $0.99 (the sale price, so be sure to act quickly), it makes for a great virtual companion, whether you intend to play for a few minutes or several hours.

Resistance: Retribution is worth a look, thanks to its enjoyable single player campaign, sharp visuals and addictive multiplayer. PSP owners should definitely pick it up.

Mika Mobile has once again commanded our collective attention with a game that is both easy on the eyes and immensely satisfying. Buy it without hesitation and cross your fingers for plenty of free characters and levels in the future.

Sprinkle is both fun and visually stimulating, a game that should be in everyone's collection. The fact that it costs $0.99 ($1.99 on Android with 24 additional levels) means you have no excuse.

It's an enjoyable game that I'm glad that I own, but it didn't impress me enough that I felt the need to gush all over it. But kudos to Game Freak for coming up with something fresh in the platform genre, as simply conking bad guys on the head was getting tired.

It may not be the most sophisticated game you can get for your mobile, but it is one of the most entertaining and original, and you can't really ask for much more than that.

From the outstanding water to the Career and Online play, you'll struggle to find better racers on smartphones and tablets.

Still, if you managed to overcome any of the control scheme shortcomings in previous touchscreen LEGO games, then you have nothing to worry about in this latest release. In terms of content, characters, and all of the many charms the series has become famous for, Batman DC Superheroes delivers one of the better mobile LEGO experiences.

Had there been more levels, Dark Void Zero would've been unbeatable. That said, you still shouldn't miss it, especially for three dollars.

All this praise aside, the game's commentary comes up way short.

In the face of so much delightfully clever level design, it's easy enough to brush aside any niggles about the game. Icycle's colorful, clever and a great example of just how far a little imagination can go in the world of indie mobile development.

A well polished and kick ass surgery game that makes excellent use of the Nintendo DS' touch screen. But what I wasn't prepared for was its engaging story, and that added bonus puts this game over the top.

There's no denying that Glu Mobile did a great job adapting Transformers into a turn-based strategy game. G1 Awakening lacks the pomp and circumstance in Activision's games, but it's both fun as well as a cool trip back to a time when Saturday morning cartoons and toys were actually good.

Capitalizes on humanity's inherent love for a slightly aggravating puzzle that we secretly relish.

Taking this into account, Man in a Maze is superb regardless of which platform you play it on, and play it you most definitely should. Meanwhile, cross your fingers for even more levels, contestants, and prizes in the months ahead. Yup, it's a winner.

Similar to Candy Crush Saga, you only have a limited number of chances to play, but the developers were generous, and the time to regenerate these "hearts" is significantly shorter. Besides, the better you are, the longer a single game will last, making the wait time almost insignificant.

Although it's too familiar for its own good, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy is a fine conclusion for the series, at least for the time being. With a fresh story, solid presentation and plenty of puzzles and challenges, this is one mystery that doesn't wear out its welcome.

But the actual tennis is excellent and the various mini games are lots of fun, so if you absolutely love the Mario Tennis series and/or have a few friends that also own this game (because each player needs a copy), it's a decent purchase.

Great amount of fun, with a fun and vibrant look throughout.

About the only thing wrong with this game is the repetition.

Bitcoin Billionaire is a very interesting game to say the least. The game can be very addicting because it is so simplistic and you really want to make as much money as you can. On the other hand though it is not really a game at all and if you are looking for something more challenging than tapping a screen over and over than look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, it's a fairly short-lived experience. You can beat the game in roughly an hour, but on the positive side, multiple routes will keep you coming back for more; case in point, we didn't reach the Blue-Marine level during the first play through.

A classic, lengthy, & challenging platforming experience - the type of game we don't see enough of, anymore. And make no mistake - the game gets CRAZY hard, later on. This is no pushover like "NSMB" or "Super Princess Peach." You WILL die dozens of times in the last world, and bosses WILL stump you.

While by no means perfect, Castle of Illusion is a good enough platformer that pays worthy homage to the Genesis classic. That said, its high cost makes it too expensive to be an impulse buy, and we can only suggest waiting for the inevitable price drop.

Patapon 2 is just as wildly addictive as the original, with its energetic gameplay and presentation.

A fun homage to the glory days of video games, back when controllers didn't have a whole mess of buttons. Ah, memories.

Ultimately, the overwhelming frustration makes Fragger HD a huge pain in the butt.

The only downside is the game's short length. You'll probably blow through it in a day or two, depending on your skills.

When a game is supposed to be strategic, I expect strategy... and when it fails in that regard, I personally cannot believe it's a great game. That's not to say FFXII: RW is bad or that it isn't competently designed, it's just that it could have been much more and it's sort of infuriating to know it isn't.

A wonderful homage to one of the most beloved games of all time.

The physics are top notch, and we love the slow motion that kicks in, just before the last block or two hits or narrowly misses that final star; if things go wrong, you can always restart the puzzle at any time.

Star Marine: Infinite Ammo satisfies the need for an arcade style shooter on the iPhone, delivering all the big guns, nasty bad guys and the grizzled hero one would expect. With that, grab that Ion Torch and come out firing.

Great Little War Game HD is much better than a three out of five. We just couldn't award it a higher score knowing it crashes on iPad 2. If you can deal with that, or have the iPhone/older iPad, this App comes highly recommended.

This is the best comic-book beat-em-up from Activision to date, with a huge list of characters to choose from, many villains to defeat, and the ability to go at it solo or with friends.

A combination of great things. In the casual sense, it's a 1980s puzzle party. For hardcore gamers, it's a cross between Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and Lumines. Providing this news didn't cause a massive brain explosion, we strongly suggest downloading this app right away.

No matter how much FIFA you might have played on your mobile prior to this morning, we're confident you've never played a FIFA quite like this one.

Sleepwalker's Journey is that rare game that manages to combine a frightening challenge with a huge amount of accessibility, so that those less obsessed with gathering every last mark of success can still enjoy its delights.

If anything, Trials and Tribulations is guilty of just being the "same old thing". After all, the formula hasn't really changed whatsoever from what was present in the first two games, aside from some tweaks to the defense system.

With a simple control scheme, robust assortment of parts and vehicle modifications and online multiplayer that will keep you hooked for hours, Racing Rivals is worth a test drive.

Civilization Revolution makes our DS smile. The game is sweet strategic candy wrapped in replay chocolate.

The fact that we enjoyed Another World 20 years after it first debuted is a testament to its greatness. Other games have copied its cinematic storytelling and puzzles, but this is where it all began. Young or old, you'll appreciate much of what this engaging adventure has to offer.

One of the prettiest and most entertaining iPhone and iPad games, and for $0.99, you'd be foolish to ignore it.

Phenomenal...Instead of shoehorning the Xbox 360 adventure onto the App Store with a virtual analog stick, Activision played to the iPhone and iPad's strengths, creating a game players of all ages can enjoy. Bravo.

A great game, a rhythm/music game that bends the genre in new directions with its creative design, heartily original soundtrack, and unique gameplay system. Ads notwithstanding, Dead Ahead ranks right up there with the best the endless running genre has to offer, including Halfbrick's Jetpack Joyride.

Leaps and bounds better than the previous edition, and a worthwhile recommendation to anyone who loves golf.

Overall, Grimoire of the Rift is an excellent example of quality DS gaming.

Thankfully, there's more to it than eye candy, and this substance outshines the negatives. Worth five bucks? Absolutely.

Whether or not it's Vita's best title is up for debate, but it's without question a damn good one.

All in all we wouldn't hesitate to recommend that any strategy fan gets stuck into at least the free content that's on offer here, and it's a wise distribution model given that there's not a great deal of hand-holding or explanation of the game's core mechanics.

This is yet another outstanding addition to the 3DS eShop, and the old school presentation and enjoyable gameplay more than justifies the $8.99 asking price. One of the best games we've had the privilege of playing on Nintendo's handheld.

Ultimately, what I took away from Pokemon White Version 2 was this: that the series, much like the monsters that call it home, desperately needs to evolve.

Gameloft has done a marvelous job creating a high-quality game that you'll enjoy for months to come, even during actual fishing trips. After all, everyone needs something to pass the time.

It won't take long to unlock everything, but the journey is worth the modest amount of cash. Besides, blowing a zombie's brains out is quite the guilty pleasure.

Yes, the lack of full screen iPad support is a letdown, but Diggin' Dogs helped me ignore my illness, and therefore receives a hearty recommendation. Now excuse me while I take some meds.

It's both expertly designed and challenging. We'll literally sit upwards of five to ten minutes per puzzle trying to figure out the best possible angles for those mirrors.

There are definitely niggles with the controls in the game, but I was won over by the blend of genres, the lovely retro artwork and the kind of chip-tunes that nag away in your brain, long after you've stopped playing.

RAD Soldiers is a very well executed touchscreen game, and will do a good job of scratching that turn-based itch while you're away from the meatier console and PC games in the genre. That said, we did find the objectives and locations just a little bit too repetitive.

Overall, Lums is a fantastic addition to the crowded physics puzzle genre, and packs in more than enough originality to put a smile on the face of even the most jaded physics action fan.

Even if you think you're grown hopelessly tired of endless runners - or, for that matter, zombies - Infectonator: Hot Chase will still win you over. Like the hero you control, it'll certainly grow on you - but without that pesky infection.

If you enjoy South Park or even pinball in general, these are an awesome couple of tables you'll undoubtedly want to spend plenty of time with.

Zombie Catchers is a fun and unique title. It's very creative in its approach to the genre, and it's a blast to play. The amount of waiting you have to do to play gets really annoying and the game constantly makes you take breaks because of the wait times.

If you love first-person shooters and don't mind the core simplicity at the game's heart, Neon Shadow is well worth taking a shot at.

It's not without its faults, but those faults are overshadowed by the quality. No matter what your heart desires (dishing and swishing, hacking and whacking, or posting and toasting) this game has it all.

Princess Fury will try your patience, but it's worth the effort, if for nothing else than to relive the glory days of 16-bit arcade fun.

All we need, at this point, is for the developers to crack down on rage quitting and improve the tiny bit of lag that crops up. In its current state, though, Street Fighter IV Volt is still the best App Store brawler. Highly recommended.

Clap Hanz learned from its mistakes and made a tennis game worth checking out, with approachable gameplay, excellent role-playing elements and a slick presentation.

Beaterator could've been a little more consumer-friendly, with a better hands-on tutorial and some minor sequences. Not everyone will get it, but would-be music maestros and DJs should definitely give it a look.

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony is a bold remake of a classic RPG that fans shouldn't miss. Its visuals are among the best we've seen on a portable system in some time, and the audio is so high quality, you'll want to keep your headphones plugged in every minute.

A nice debut for the line on the Sony PSP. It has its needs for improvements but what you get here is still a focused and thrilling game of portable baseball done right. And you can't really ask for more than that.
