  1. It’s improved in every way but still retains all of the elements that made the original an instant classic.
  2. In a time when 2D platformers seem to be fading into gaming history, for fans of the SNES it's downright heartwarming to see a sequel that is true to the classic.

One of the best platformers on the DS. [Jan 2007, p.75]

A pleasure to experience from start to finish. It’s thorough, pretty, sometimes challenging and downright fun to play.
  5. 80
It's just that compared to the original, it's nowhere near as polished.
  6. Yoshi's Island is a paradise of platforming pleasure and the perfect holiday destination this summer.
  7. The DS version is a fun game, but it doesn’t improve on the original enough to break it out of the museum and into your collection.

It’s not as good as the first one, but Yoshi’s Island DS is a generally satisfying sequel.

It feels the same as Yoshi's Island on SNES, but behind the cute graphics and music hide some extremely lacking level design. Especially the last levels, they're not hard or challenging, they're simply frustrating. I remember dying over and over again in the same levels with more than 70 lives in stock. The whole baby-switching aspect is interesting at first, but after a few minutes it feels gimmicky and it doesnt fit that well in the game. I don't recommend it. Expand
