After many years of stagnant design, the Fire Emblem franchise takes a huge step in sophistication with Awakening, probably the best strategy RPG on the 3DS and maybe in the genre, at least in recent years. Its amazing storytelling is only bested by perfect mechanics that nurture with relevant characters, each one unique in abilities, dialogue and personality. The well-crafted design finds perfect match in beautiful cinematics and orchestral music, everything creating an harmonious and epic experience.

A middle ground between the mindless fun of Brawl and the more serious play of Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is a pretty solid iteration, packed with content, charisma and lots of versatility.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is Atlus' new bet to bring us a high quality JRPG. Their experience with the Persona saga is poured into this fantasy world that captures you with its great story. Its political and philosophical load, excellent art direction and simple but deep gameplay mechanics make it one of the best exponents of the genre of the last decade.

Unless you’re the ultimate fan of Mario Kart, there’s no reason to get the Switch version if you have the original for Wii U. That’s because even if Battle Mode was the missing piece in this puzzle, you’re paying full price for an extra mode and the access to play additional characters. You never had a Wii U and Switch is you’re first Nintendo console since a long time? Don’t hesitate to get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - together with Breath of the Wild it's the best that the console has to offer and it will give you tons of entertainment.

Rayman Legends does not offer a real revolution for the platform genre, but it proves that there is still room to be creative and to develop fresh ideas. Unfortunately, even though the game tries to be innovative in different ways, not all of them were really successful. This might not be a game changer, like Origins, but it is a nice continuation of the aesthetics and game design proposed by it.

The glorious return of Kamiya's beloved brainchild, Bayonetta 2 is a master lesson in arcade action, flow, design and skill, even if it doesn't burn with the same passion of its predecessor.

Sekiro is an instant classic and one of the best games of this generation. Its many atmospheres are simply amazing and very well done. At times they are dark and eerie and can rival a Survival Horror game. Exploration is very rewarding and fun. The enemies have personality, are well thought, varied and their design is very imaginative. The combat system is deep, addictive and difficult to master, maybe too much for the average gamer, but very rewarding for those who like difficult games and put the time and effort to get good and learn from their many deaths. I really enjoyed my time with this masterpiece and it reminded me why I love videogames.

Forza Horizon 5 is the racing game for everyone, which takes outsiders from the racing genre and turns them into followers of the speed, and for those who are already fans, it offers an almost endless variety of activities and challenges. Also very remarkable is the representation of Mexico, which offers vibrant landscapes full of incredible details that only those who live in Mexico will recognize. It is an indispensable game and highly recommended.

Split Fiction is a great experience that any video game fan should try. Josef Fares and his entire team are presenting an unforgettable journey that, at times, rivals the achievements of It Takes Two. The co-op sequences are highly original, fun, and exciting, while the science fiction and fantasy concepts open up a world of possibilities that never cease to impress. If you're looking for a new adventure full of challenges and have someone to enjoy it with, Split Fiction is the perfect way to pass the time and rediscover everything a great video game can offer.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was worth the wait. It is a masterclass on how to improve an already successful formula, expand on almost every single of its mechanics, change some things and keep surprising the player. It is so huge and full of stuff to do, that it makes you think you are never done, but in a good way. Even though it can be very difficult and frustrating, that makes it really satisfying to beat and keep improving.

Hiromasa Shikata assumes for the first time the challenge of directing a Zelda title. The result will please fans of both the classic action-0oriented Zelda and the puzzle oriented Zelda of Aonuma. Beautiful art direction, great music and the triumphant return of some classic features of the series make this Zelda one of the most memorable additions to the franchise.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 excels in delivering a spectacular combat system and seamlessly fluid traversal mechanics. The game truly shines when it lets you swing through Manhattan's cityscape at breakneck speeds, a thrilling highlight of the experience. Yet, where Insomniac Games stumbles is in the narrative and certain design choices. The inclusion of stealth sections and an overreliance on cinematic Quick Time Events detracts from player agency. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 doesn't reinvent the wheel but also doesn't significantly improve its rotation.

The Last of Us: Part II Remastered is a re-release that delivers the best and most complete version of this game. While the graphical changes do little to impress, the extra content is valuable for those hungry for more of Naughty Dog's grim universe. That said, it feels solely like it exists purely for commercial continuity, to capitalize on the hype of the HBO series and give another sales boost to Naughty Dog's video game.

Another high quality entry from CD Projekt RED, Hearts of Stone keeps the tone and essence of The Witcher but gives a very interesting twist to the "stoic monster hunter finds that humans are the true monsters" framework of the saga. Also, Shani will rekindle the heart of true fans. A fantastic effort worth your money.
