There are elements to Curse of the Sea Rats that really shine. It is exciting to progress through the world in Metroidvania-style watching the animations, cooky boss fights, and listening to the music. When it comes to gameplay such as combat and platforming however, the shine wears off. Pervasive loading screens on the Switch, neutered boss fights, and finicky platforming can make it too difficult to enjoy. The world is worthy to be explored, but with better gameplay.

While Project Dark isn't for everyone, those who find enjoyment in visual novels can appreciate the story and settings experienced in this game. Players who look for more narrative-driven games and focus less on visual aspects will enjoy the scenarios that Red Meat has developed using this audio-based gameplay mechanic. Though I feel the game could have taken a different route to provide a more engaging story, the current state of it lends to a relaxing play session that gets gamers out of their comfort zone.

Total War: Warhammer III: Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs is a great expansion on the base game. Adding a long-requested faction to the title in a near-perfect way. With many new and brilliantly designed units, a fine selection of lords, and some cool new features there is a lot to enjoy with this new content. However, the extra levels of economic micro-management that the DLC adds may be too much for some.

Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord feels chained to its retro inspirations. While very little could be considered objectively poor, there's a lack of care to innovate that leaves Refrain Chord feeling bogged down. Between the hollow feeling world, the likeable but generic cast of characters, the poor Switch performance and, in particular, the strained strategic combat that actually takes decision-making away from you, everything makes Refrain Chord feel stuck in the past. If you're itching for some classic fantasy or anime fun, this game will certainly scratch that itch. If you're looking for something more, though, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Suffer The Night delivers a thrilling horror experience within the first few moments, keeping you on your toes throughout. It delivers two different horror experiences and never leaves you wondering what lies ahead. It’s not perfect, and the flaws are noticeable enough to impact gameplay. But the strengths outweigh the weaknesses and you will have a few good scares while playing the game.

Outer Terror is a fantastic homage to pulp horror with some strong points in review. The gameplay is largely enjoyable and there some great quality levels and synergy between the game, missions, and side quests. However with a little more to do on each level the game could be great, but at the moment, it often feels like you’re just running back and forth.

Despite its rocky road of development, Dead Island 2 succeeds in bringing more of the same mindless, mind-bashing fun as its predecessor. While not flawless, Dead Island 2 leans into its gory silliness by bringing dark and well-timed humour into its cut scenes. Intricate details in the environment make exploring engaging and all aspects of the infected have been lovingly designed, including the weapons you use to destroy them with. If you are looking for some zombie-bashing goofiness, then Dead Island 2's gruesome tour of LA is worth a visit.

I get it. You don't go into Lovecraft expecting to giggle. It's a deep spiral of depression and ennui that lets you explore human nature. With boats. What I want to get through is that despite that, despite my anxiety and hesitation to play this, I actually enjoyed myself. I liked dredging wrecks for supplies. I liked pulling up exotic catches while dodging aberrant anglerfish. Heck, I even loved a few of the characters like the Researcher. Despite my hatred for stress inducing games, I found myself unable to pull away from this game. It's good! Depressing, but good. And maybe that's all it needs to be for an Eldritch fishing simulator.

I apologize if this review sounded somewhat nitpicky. I'm only this strict because Battle Network is a series that is near and dear to me, one that I played a lot in my youth, and I want it to be the best that it could be, such that other people can come to love Battle Network as much as I do. If Capcom had taken the proper steps to modernize these games, then they could be masterpieces, but if you have the patience to deal with their quirks and archaic mechanics, then the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection will offer you 100+ hours of JRPG goodness, and it will not disappoint.

Boneraiser Minions pushes the bullet hell survival genre in new directions with fresh ideas, and an addictive gameplay loop. The clean, retro visuals are fantastic and the improved accessibility options make Boneraiser Minions easy to enjoy. The fun classes and interesting minions create a deep layer of strategy and potential builds as you take your revenge on King Gigald. At just $4.99, Boneraiser Minions is a great value and can provide dozens of hours of entertainment.

Hunt the Night is a challenging but rewarding game that rewards players with new gear, timing, and skill. It takes place in a world where humans and monsters live in a cycle, where humans come together to stop the cycle. Dialogue in the game is intentionally vague and just enough to set the tone of the world. The story and gameplay of Hunt the Night are well-done, with a mix of melee and ranged combat with dodging.

Scars Above tells an excellent story and provides several mechanics that fans of the genre will enjoy. The landscapes and monsters are designed beautifully, with audio that completes each setting. While character design could use some work, and customization would have been nice, the good heavily outweighs the bad with this one. The combat difficulty will provide plenty of frustration and enjoyment for days on end.

After the Fall performs well in the gameplay department. The guns feel great, enemies are terrifying and diverse, and the 80s Apocalyptic setting of a frozen Los Angeles feels amazing to play around in. Vertigo Games has innovated on their already successful mechanics from Arizona Sunshine, taking a page from Left 4 Dead, while raising all aspects of production quality. Grinding in After the Fall is fun and worthwhile, and the multiplayer aspect works well in VR.

It seems absurd to complain about a lack of content in a game that has an endless amount of player-created levels. But for Meet Your Maker, it fits very well. This could be an amazing game, but the limited set of tools available at launch restricts the amount of fun that can be had by both raiders and builders. I'm sure it will be awesome in a year from now, however. With more content and tools, only then will Meet Your Maker truly shine.

Forsake is a solid new entry within the ghost-hunting genre. Unseen Interactive manages to capture and expand upon what makes the genre great. The stages are well-made, and the Entities in this game are solid, all having their unique behavior. While there's a game-breaking bug that prevents us from finishing a Ritual, overall Forsake is a fun ride that many players, both veterans and newcomers alike, can enjoy.

Post Void is an acid trip disguised as a boomer shooter. When the trippy visuals aren't messing with your mind, the twitch-based gameplay kicks your butt six ways from Sunday. Post Void's roguelike mechanics provide depth and variety to each playthrough. It's an adrenaline rush like no other, one where its surrealism hides a challenging but rewarding old-school FPS.

Kudos to SEGA! The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog really shows what the developers are capable of. This inspired and creative game has already captured the hearts of many fans, and it captured mine alike. With its vibrant and immersive gameplay, this adventure is perfect to fill an afternoon with. Here's to hoping that SEGA sees the positive reception and makes more Sonic content like this. I already can't wait.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is an awesome game that Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, both new and old would love. I honestly would've probably given this a lower score, but they just added the option decks from YGOProDeck directly to the game. This just fixes one of the major issues of the game and warrants it a better rating. All in all, fantastic looking graphics, and it plays well. What else can you really ask from a card game?

Deflector takes the idea of deflecting attacks and weaves it into the roguelite genre. While it doesn’t necessarily break new ground, it does offer additional strategy that makes you think about blocking. There’s nothing fundamentally different as you play, and it’s still a regular roguelite. But it’s a roguelite that encourages different playstyles, deflecting, and has a great soundtrack to listen to.

Escape From The Red Planet is a tower defence game incorporating aspects of lite resource management and rail shooters. That sounds like many things, but Escape From The Red Planet manages to simplify this concept to its bone. This simplification helps the game flow well but also leads to aspects where the game is sometimes way too simplified. All this leads to a pleasant game which is short and fun.

Hogwarts Legacy is littered with small niggles which, when stacked together, make the game feel like it was released over a decade ago. While the castle is a large enough area to explore, the monotony of repeating quests and tasks makes the game feel last-generation and boring over time. Hogwarts Legacy could already use some DLC's in order to expand the size of the world, add more complex spells, and introduce a wider array of enemies. If you are a power-nerd looking for a new and complete RPG, you will have to wait for Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, coming in April 2023. While most critics agree that Hogwarts Legacy is near perfect, due to the incomplete feeling of the game and lack of a solid story arc, it feels more Muggle than magic.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is a masterclass in modernizing a tried and true classic game. Though not without faults, they are so few as to be insignificant to the overall experience. Every aspect of the game has been rebuilt in order to make the time spent as Leon Kennedy an utter joy. With a riveting story, rewarding gameplay, and gorgeous design, it is a masterpiece in every sense.

Out of the Park Baseball 24 is truly a joy to play. With its deep mechanics and realistic simulation, baseball fans will love it. Perfect Team may not be something to recommend, but it's only a small part of the overall package. With the level of customization available to you, OOTP 24 is almost like a playground for creating different leagues. This is easily worth the price of admission, even if you aren't a fan of baseball.

Behind the Secret of Rainy Woods gave me a great reason to jump back into The Good Life, a game that while challenging and sometimes frustrating, was also very enjoyable, not to mention memorable. I had a lot of fun getting back into this game and doing the new quests. While they don't provide any new gameplay aside from extra quests, it at least gives you something extra to do. If you liked The Good Life, then you should think about checking out the DLC.

9 Years of Shadows will draw you in with masterful pixel art and irresistible music, then keep you hooked with its glorious halberdy action and overall strength of character. Despite some overly forgiving map design and limited replay value, this is a Metroidvania you might just fall in love with. An ideal entry point for newcomers to the genre, a must-play for long-time fans.

Contraband Police looks like a simple document checking game at the outset. But if you dedicate some time to play it, you will find a decent story and varied gameplay. A good balance of activities prevents the game from feeling boring too quickly, and the story is surprisingly deep. You actually feel like you are a border patrol officer with large responsibilities, managing more than just your welfare. While the game gets harder as time goes on, there’s always something to do that keeps you on your toes.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is another solid entry from Team Ninja and is a good option for you that wants to try the Soulslike genre for the first time. The Sims 4 Growing Together Expansion brings exactly what you expect to the game. It's perfect for players who love family gameplay, and it's also great if you enjoy your Sims growing and developing at any age. San Sequoia is another amazing world to play in, ideal for families but great for anyone. I especially love the new Recreation Center. I wish there were more Lots though. Regardless of the few flaws, this is a great new Expansion Pack and one you should definitely consider getting.

While it may not be served with intuitive cooking controls, Chef Life: A Restaurant Simulator delivers an engaging and unique game. Cooking dishes is a challenge to begin with but with some practice you can make them perfect, Having total control over your restaurant ensures there are plenty of ways to pass the hours as you customise the interior design and plating layouts, and the ability to lower the difficulty down to a simmer means you are able to enjoy a leisurely cooking sim, or keep the heat on high for a more realistic restaurant experience.

WWE 2K23 took everything that filled 2K22 with promise and expanded on it, making them better than before. The time and effort put into things like MyGM and WarGames are evident. And the quality of MyRise can not be understated. Interesting stories filled with self-aware jokes and storylines directed toward 2K and WWE in a refreshing manner that hasn't been seen before. Though there are still issues and kinks to be worked out that prevent the game from being as great as its potential.
