Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a love letter to action RPG fans. It presents the best elements of the genre while providing it's unique ideas and strengths. The result is simply fantastic and addictive.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is another solid entry from Team Ninja and is a good option for you that wants to try the Soulslike genre for the first time. Deflection/Parry and the Morale System are the two main mechanics in this game, and Team Ninja manages to implement them incredibly well while making them seamless with other aspects in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Taking its cues from Nioh and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty boasts a number of challenging mechanics. The simple yet profound Kisei system and the Morale Rank system are innovative features, and the sheer speed of the combat is addictive. However, while the fundamentals of Wo Long are excellently made, it suffers from a number of problems both large and small, including an unwieldy UI, a one-dimensional story, and a lack of variety in both melee attacks and enemy types. If developer Team Ninja’s Nioh series is anything to go by, it’s possible that many of these problems will be resolved in future updates and DLC. For now, at least, Wo Long is a highly enjoyable game that falls just short of hitting the next level.

When all of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s systems are going, they masterfully work in harmony to make the player want to see more, fight more, and challenge themselves. When players are pushing their limits and conquering the game's mechanics, Wo Long becomes a hard game to put down. It doesn’t totally reinvent the mechanics that Team Ninja has been building since Nioh, nor does it fully flesh out concepts from Sekiro that inspired it; however, Wo Long takes enough from both to make something engrossing.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a solid foundation for a new IP with fluid combat and fun exploration but fails to topple its spiritual predecessor due to oversimplification of customization and a lackluster PC port.

The name of the game is “parry”. Whatever the problem is, a well-timed parry will save the day. But if you can’t handle parrying mechanic, you’ll lose, no matter what tactics you use and what your equipment is. [page 52]

I love Nioh 1 and 2. This product feels unfinished and rushed. The pc port is awful and the grapichs and everything looks from the ps3 era. II love Nioh 1 and 2. This product feels unfinished and rushed. The pc port is awful and the grapichs and everything looks from the ps3 era. I think they will fix most of these issues in the future, but for now I can’t recommend it. The difficulty is also all over the place, maybe the hardest souls-like game I have played. Expand

The issue isn't the average graphics, boring story, or uninspiring janky gameplay, I just can't get over how lazy this port's sound is. There are scenes where the actors are asmr breathing in your ear with no ambience or background sound. Dynasty warriors 3 on playstation 2 had more effort put into the sound than this game. The voice actors sound like they were picked up off the street. The scene transitions look like they hired a random from deviantart and slapped some commentary down rather than using anything remotely close to a creative scene transition. It's a joke.

Also, the game is confirmed bugged to hell by design. The speed of animations is tied to your FPS causing some enemies to have inconsistent attack speeds.

Bad ports I can forgive, lazy ports I cannot.

The control scheme is completely screwed up with no remapping, the game speed is locked to the frame rate, so if your max frame rate is 120 but you drop to 90, you start playing at 75%. This is an absolutely disgusting design. There is no optimization. This game is just an absolute pile of garbage and I expect some people to get fired because of this embarrassment. Expand

81 for this game is too much. Even 60 is too optimistic for this game. The controls on PC are insulting, graphics and animations straight from81 for this game is too much. Even 60 is too optimistic for this game. The controls on PC are insulting, graphics and animations straight from 2011, optimisation is so bad i don't even know how to describe it. Even on the controller the game feels very wacky, especially the camera. Gameplay wise it's pretty good despite the fact that it's basically a sekiro's rip-off. Overall, this might be the worst game of 2023 Expand
