It's a fun and addictive take on the classic "Breakout" recipe that will offer you some hours of enjoyable summer gaming.

Nier has some of the shortcomings of the previous Nier game like lazy open world design and side quests without a meaning. But the collaboration with PlatinumGames sends the fighting experience sky-high and overall the story and some characters are not forgettable at all. On the contrary, a rich battle system, some really inspired RPG features and secret endings which prolong the game to 40 hours give Nier the little push it needed to leave the mediocre league and set sails for the glorious ball rooms of the industry

Unfortunately, the open world segments, one of the biggest additions in Exodus, have the constant feel of fillers, devoid of any noteworthy substance. It is an aspect of the game that could benefit of significant overhaul or scrapped altogether in a potential (and very welcome) sequel. On the other hand, the shooting is extremely satisfying and the more linear levels that come from the main missions bring the high-quality design, variety and claustrophobic feeling that fans of the series come to expect. All in all it is a Metro experience albeit with some… fat that could be trimmed.

Chris Jones and Aaron Conners bring back the legendary detective Tex Murphy and manage to make him feel as fresh as ever while respecting his legendary cult statue. Pixel hunting and low difficulty issues aside, Tesla Effect is an example on how sequels should be made.

Immortals Fenyx Rising comes as a surprise. Tackling on Breath of the Wild tropes and excelling on traversal, puzzle solving and combat, the newest blockbuster by Ubisoft has lots of charm and plays great.

A delightful game that offers a fairytale style aesthetic, hours of roguelike dungeon crawling with plenty of replayabillity and a co-op mode that is superb albeit not available in the main campaign but only on the side quests.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is a wondrous, youthful, naive and hopeful new story in the Mass Effect universe, filled with ideas, stories and lore to kickstart a new series. The material is there and it could have been a triumphant return, but it is a pity that it is held back by its clearly rushed release state and some obvious shortages such as the lack of any control over your teams behavior or a mini map.

It may not be the reinvention of the wheel its predecessor offered and it may have some ambiguous gameplay design choices, but Company of Heroes 2 is every bit as great as the previous installment and some of its amazing improvements offer a spectacular strategy game.

There is no doubt that Splatoon 3 sets out on a path that has already been paved by its predecessors, leading straight to success. The game manages to provide the same sense of colorful action and enjoyment in a more refined way compared to the previous titles, though it lacks the spirit and the features that would name it as a true sequel. Until all the new features that have been promised by Nintendo become available, Splatoon 3 will remain a game that we enjoy, yet we do not truly need.

Multiple puzzle solutions, surprisingly interesting mini games and pure "heart" oozing behind the design of the game, Whateverland is a game worth playing as it manages to soar above its pacing and budgetary issues.

It is quite strange, but it is the truth. This year’s CoD has a great single player campaign accompanied by a decent zombies mode, but the multiplayer mode is mediocre and not in par with previous installment of the franchise. Activision should take notice.

The first episode of the new Life is Strange story sets the ground for a compelling and dramatic adventure with well written characters that truly makes us care for. Kudos also to Dotnod for taking a clear stance in contemporary sociopolitical issues.

Vermintide 2 steps on the known Left 4 Dead gameplay tropes and pushes the genre some significant steps further. The melee battle system feels rigid and organic and the various characters/ careers add some significant replay value. It respects its lore heritage, but bear in mind that it is aiming at hardcore players, who are ready to accept recurring failure and equipment/ xp grinding.

Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered is a well-made port of a classic JRPG, though it offers little beyond the bare minimum expected of a remaster. It remains an interesting piece of the genre’s history, but its quirks may deter newcomers, while longtime fans and JRPG veterans will find reasons to revisit it.

Exactly the sequel we were hoping for when we finished the original Valkyria Chronicles back in 2008. Deeper, denser and harder, VC4 hits all the right spots for a triumphant return to the home consoles. Only blemish, it plays, feels and looks like 2008, having copied a large amount of assets (and problems) from the original title.

After an enormously long development cycle, the end result was worth the wait. The developers persevered through development hell to deliver a striking retro-futuristic setting enhanced by well-crafted horror elements. Across its 4–5 hour, mostly narrative-driven experience, the story and its deadly presences will keep you on edge.

There are no actual improvements to the original game (besides the 4K resolution and some minor tweaks), but that’s perfectly fine with us. L.A. Noire is today as charming as it was when it originally came out and is probably the best depiction of a 40’s era L.A. in video games to date.

If NBA 2K23 was a today's player, it would probably be Doncic - we can either focus on his magical stepback threepointers, or on him being a "black hole" on defense.

Yes, most of the game seems like a copy of Arkham City, but that doesn't take away the overall high quality that comes from the lush world, the superb fighting system and the great characters WB Montreal created.

Mega Man Zero/ ZX Legacy collection is a must for all fans of the franchise. Boasting a complete reproduction of all six games, along with tons of content and the addition of save-assist and casual modes, it may even attract newcomers. That is if they can ever become able to sidestep the musky feel of the nigh twenty-year-old gameplay.

Besides the immersion you get by playing this game in VR mode, there isn’t any real reason to visit the North of Tamriel again. But for those who haven’t experienced Skyrim before and are owners of a PSVR headset, this is probably the best edition to choose.

Sakaguchi's latest is not a tribute to JRPGs of old, as many might have expected, but a bold new step for the genre. Although it's quite short and suffers from many cliches, Last Story is, without a doubt, one of the best games Japan has to offer in this generation.
