In ages past a mighty battle rocked this land, when Elore, the king of the gods, fought three malicious deities: Death, Saruin and Schirach. After a long and drawn-out struggle, Death and Schirach were sealed away and rendered powerless, with the final deity Saruin also trapped through the power of the Fatestones and the noble sacrifice of the hero Mirsa.

Now 1,000 years have passed since that titanic battle. The Fatestones lie scattered across the world and the gods of evil are resurgent once more. Eight heroes set off on their own journeys, as if guided by the hand of fate. What tales will these adventurers weave across the vast tapestry of Mardias? You are the only one who can decide!

The original Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song included many of the SaGa series trademark elements, such as the Glimmer and Combo mechanics and was considered to be the epitome of the series when it first released. The free scenario system that lets you create your own storyline remains at the core of the game, letting you select one of eight protagonists with completely different origins and backstories, then set off on a unique journey. This remastered edition has evolved in all areas, featuring upgraded high-definition graphics and numerous enhancements to improve playability. And for the first time ever, the game will be fully playable in French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This makes it highly recommended for both fans of the original and newcomers to the SaGa series.

Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song Remastered International is a thoughtful tribute to a peculiar and unrepeatable way of understanding Japanese role-playing games. The Italian localization finally makes accessible an extraordinarily free and unpredictable system, which rewards curiosity and punishes a linear approach with the same unwavering naturalness with which it allows quests to disappear without warning. The quality-of-life options, additional characters, and interface refinements mitigate the harshness of its historical rough edges, but do not distort its profound logic: Romancing Saga remains a living, ever-changing, sometimes unsettling ecosystem, always ready to surprise those who accept to be guided by the unexpected. Not a remaster for everyone, but an open door to a universe that resists compromise and continues to exist for those who seek, in JRPGs, something radically different from the usual.

Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered is a well-made port of a classic JRPG, though it offers little beyond the bare minimum expected of a remaster. It remains an interesting piece of the genre’s history, but its quirks may deter newcomers, while longtime fans and JRPG veterans will find reasons to revisit it.

Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- is an incredible non-linear roleplaying experience, and the ultimate game to lose yourself in. The lack of direction and open-ended storytelling can be overwhelming at first, but if you dive into it and take your time with it you'll end up crafting an incredible adventure that's all yours.

Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song is a work that embraces its past and chooses not to hide it. It makes no effort to appear more modern than it is, and perhaps that is exactly what makes it so captivating. A complex journey, at times hostile, yet capable of offering a sense of freedom that few contemporary JRPGs can provide. And now that it finally speaks Italian as well, one can say that its world is, for the first time, truly open to everyone.

Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered International offers a great classic from the past in a completeness that allows the player to choose which version to tackle. While the adaptation work is considerable, the technical limitations of a native PS2 product and the gameplay choices make it difficult to face for those accustomed to more modern titles. In short, it's a product not for everyone.

RPG maniacs who missed out on Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered due to the language barrier can finally check it out. International is the same remaster with identical QOL features, but now with additional language options to make it easier than ever for any Western gamer to enjoy this grossly overlooked, open-ended PlayStation 2 RPG.

Romancing SaGa Minstrel’s Song Remastered International, is a long title for a game that felt incredibly long to review. Whilst it wasn't for me, I suspect fans of previous SaGa releases will appreciate the PS5 Remaster.
