The good: The weak storytelling aside, Sacred Citadel doesn’t do anything wrong and ticks off every box in the fantasy-beat’em up manual that was written by Segas Golden Axe. Then again, it doesn’t do anything particularly right, either.

The fights are intense and remind me of a slow Vanquish while the tight platforming delivers some of the most memorable moments of its kind in this generation. But overall the pacing is completely off, while the grand finale gets interrupted by drawn out core searches. The potential is there, but the execution lacks finesse and direction.

Behind the comical façade hides a short and generic 2D-Jump&Run in the tradition of Bionic Commando. You fight, you jump and you swing with a continually growing array of tools but the unbalanced difficulty level drags you down time and again.

Bloody, brutal – but quite cheap and too linear at times. For fans of the art of boss battles this is an entertaining experience. But outside the arenas Dracula can’t motivate like Metroid Prime, Darksiders or Batman, from which it takes quite a few elements.

While the show couldn’t convince fans nor critics, leading to NBC cancelling after just one season, Gemini is a surprising game. Technically mere average (underutilizing the Unreal Engine 4) the mixture of Mirror’s Edge and Psi-Ops doesn’t live up to all its potential, but still delivers a solid action experience.

In its best moment Through the Woods is an atmospheric trip into the world of Norse mythology. But what this adventure desperately needs is depth. While the simplified story premise is very interesting, the actual storytelling is as shallow as the stealth mechanics.

The scope could also be more generous in general: If you deduct Stockpile, which is currently too haphazardly for me, only three modes remain in very similar arenas; The character skills and special attacks of the hero cars are too interchangeable for me.
