No wonder its cast and crew rejected that version, you can see that this is a labor of love. Supporting actors, such as Diane Lane even functioning at their 'A' levels. And it bogles me how the he@# that WB executives saw this 'initial cut' as a failure? Yes, it is not the MCU, but a different variety of it and dare I say, comparable in quality. Alas, the Snyder verse may have reached an end and all these great potential are laid to waste. Yet, we still have this version to savor for years to come.… Expand

Zack Snyder seems to have knocked it out of the park with his vision for the Justice League. The story and the crucial characters getting fleshed out to a more conceivable pattern in comparison to its 2017 counterpart is infact a lending factor to its own superiority. Hollywood can learn a thing or two from here when too many cooks in the kitchen can pose a problem for studios. The auteur strokes on the contrary enriches the movie’s soul with enough humor, optimism and story beats leading very well to a climax that connects to the viewer. The length never seems to be an issue if the viewing is managed under chapters, not to take away the merit of streaming content in binge sessions as some hardcore fans might prefer to. If the DC universe needs to thrive further, they need to take elements from this movie(cul-de-sac or not) as a reference model to their success trajectory further. Or perhaps as fans call it #RestoretheSnyderverse, if that wasn’t too much of an oversimplification. An interminable campaign by fans deserves an appreciation too.… Expand

In fact, everything is very simple. If you are a fan of Zach Snyder this is a great movie for you. If you didn't like Snyder before, then you won't like this version either.

Personally, I enjoyed every minute of these 4 hours. And it was amazing.

Some big standouts are Cyborg, the Flash, Wonder Woman/the Amazons, Steppenwolf, and Darkseid! Apokolips' invasion of Earth does well in setting high stakes that the protagonists must overcome, and especially terrifying is the "knightmare" subplot hinting at what will happen if they fail. By merit of these great characters and their individual journies, by the time the credits began to roll, I was wishing it wouldn't end.… Expand

It might as well be a brand-new film. The old JL was one of my most hated films. It was so poorly paced and badly written. I'm a little shocked to say that ZSJL is an incredible superhero film. This is the true Justice League we should've watched in 2017. Its packed with action a lot of new action scenes. Steppenwolf is brutal and improved. Diana is all an Amazon war, not the **** they presented to us in WW84, Batman is no longer a walking joke, here if he is rude. Well developed characters, unexpected cameos and gory film. The soundtrack is another plus that gives everything an epic touch. Very good movie that should have been released 3 years and 4 months ago in cinema (that is, November 2017).… Expand

First it illustrates the unequivocal truth that Joss Whedon is and has always been a talentless hack who has often fell backwards into something good on rare occasion.

This cut does proper justice to the characters and the story it sets out to convey. It is not perfect and it requires its own standard of "comic book movie" good, but for a contemporary comic book movie this cut is on par with Joker, Logan, Deadpool, The Dark Knight and the original Blade as Good comic book films out of the absolute scrap heap Whedon left of the film.

The film also illustrates the level of bias and worship that fans and the industry have for Disney. The original cut was bad but it was never terrible. Fans eviscerated it as if it were The Room. All while Disney super hero tent pole films are bland, uninspired, that lull you to sleep with how "awesome" they are just before they break into a classic Disney song and dance routine. OK that last bit is being facetious but honestly, give it another 5-10 years max before it becomes standard. But I digress. Fans rampaged over the original cut and it wasnt because it was bad so much as it was because it wasnt Disney.

Granted the original cut did a poor job overall, this cut shows just how good and truly epic these types of films can be. You can tell the overall product was a labor of love that was basically denied and delayed due to a tragedy. Its so good that honestly it made the limp wristed Whedon butchery so forgettable that outside of about 2-3 scenes it was like watching a whole new film

Speaking of tragedy it now looks as if there is the potential for this to ultimately be a take of greek tragedy proportions. With this cut being so good and setting up so much the question is can and will WB actually work to reunite this cast and make the proper followup film that now NEEDS to be made.

Dont get me wrong, the film has its flaws. A sizable lull in the middle being the most glaring but tbh with a run time of nearly 4 hours how could there not be a lull? Overall the pacing tends to be good but some of the exposition gets a bit long winded and could use a smidgen of refinement.Yet I would gladly sit through sporadically placed redundant lines of dialogue for the overall product we got. Also one other minor complaint... The musical cue for Wonder Woman needs to stop. I have no problem with character thematic movements but that track is quickly getting annoying with how they use it seemingly every single time she goes into fight mode out of all the movies she is in. (also Gadot is still the worst casting choice in comic book movie history) Change it up, Limit this one to only her most "epic" scene or at the very least change up the arrangement to provide some variance.

It takes some effort but its well worth the watch. Honestly I would suggest digesting the film in 3 sittings to help with that lull at the 2 hour mark. Makes it much easier to swallow this glut of content.

Definitely the most enjoyable thing released so far in 2021. Worth your time and money. This one film on its own is better than all the Avengers films assembled.… Expand

It is an amazing movie and clearly shows that WB **** up. Given full creative control Snyder can make an amazing movie. The saddest part of the movie is knowing that his plan won't ever come and I see it as one hell of a waste.

So much better than the Wheaton Cut. Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman were more flushed out in their back stories. Watched with my daughters and nephews, they didn't move for nearly the entire movie and that's saying a lot. Good Job Zack

First off; I am one of the few who enjoyed the original release but I always felt it was...lacking. It seemed “pieced together”. It seemed “pieced together”. It was “entertaining” but I always felt there were too many cutesy, Marvel wanna be scenes that it detracted from the depth that was available in these rich characters.
Not so, with the Snyder Cut.
There was so much in it that was, obviously, cut from the first version as a consequence of bad editing. I am not going to go into explicit detail. It would take too long. Suffice it to say; this is an entirely different movie from the theatrical release. There was a depth of background detail, character building and motivation that is unmatched in “comic-book” movies. The story development felt organic and well thought out. (Zack nailed it.)
Plus; the ending was completely, and wonderfully, modified, (ergo; different).
{I absolutely adored the Black Super suit!}
I was happy to see that Ray Fisher’s Victor Stone/Cyborg was incredibly (beautifully) fleshed out as a person and character.
The minor changes and myriad additions only added to the wonder that is the Snyder Cut. All of the actors are perfectly suited to their roles. A stand out, as in the theatrical release, was Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash. He brings just enough humor to the team without being the “class clown” they turned him into in the original version. Gal Gadot is so great as Wonder Woman, I love Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Henry Cavill does make me “believe a man can fly” and Ben Affleck...what can I say? He IS the Batman. I could watch his Bruce Wayne in a dozen films. (Jeremy Irons is a wonderful addition to the Pennyworth legacy as well.) The cameos/revelations were great and well placed in the story.
My final word is; this is the way it should have been released the first time around. At 4 hours/2 minutes it is long but worth every minute. Not a piecemeal film trying to emulate a cartoon from the 70’s but a film that stands on its own merits as a drama first, a character study second and an action movie/superhero movie third.… Expand

After the critical mixed reception and box office bomb of 2017’s Justice League, fans have been campaigning for the original cut of Justice League, known as the Snyder Cut, done by it’s original director, Zack Snyder. After years of many fan campaigns, the Snyder Cut have finally arrived and is available in HBO Max. What separate this movie from the theatrical cut is both of them are totally different movies and this movie is not an extended version. This movie is using footage originally shot by Zack Snyder only. None of the footage shot by Joss Whedon (who took over as the director of the theatrical cut during post production) will be use. Another difference in this movie is R rated and the runtime is 4 hours unlike the theatrical cut which is PG-13 rated and runtime is 2 hours.

On the night that Superman died, his death triggers the three Mother Boxes’ reactivation where the first two Boxes are guarded by the Amazons and Atlanteans respectively while the third Box is under the possession of Star Labs. Some time later, the reactivation of the Boxes attract Steppenwolf’s attention. He and his armies of Parademons successfully retrieve the first Mother Box from the Amazons in Themyscira.

Queen Hippolyta warns her daughter, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gadot), about Steppenwolf (Hinds) and the upcoming threats. Having been warned, Diana learn some history regarding Darkseid’s failed invasion of Earth five thousand years ago and losing the three Mother Boxes in the process. Diana meets up with Bruce Wayne/Batman (Affleck) and inform him about the threats they are going to face. Together, they seek out the three metahumans with superpowers: Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Barry Allen/Flash and Victor Stone/Cyborg to fight Steppenwolf and stop him from obtaining the other Mother Boxes.

Meanwhile, Steppenwolf made his base in an abandoned Russian town. He reports to DeSaad, Darkseid’s loyal follower, about the his progress hoping to regain favour with Darkseid, who is also Steppenwolf’s nephew. With progress have been made, Steppenwolf hunts the remaining two Mother Boxes.

As I have mentioned earlier, this movie is a completely different movie. There are no scenes from the theatrical cut at all. That means there are no Russian family subplot, Superman being interviewed by some kids, Flash landed on top of Wonder Woman and more. This is definitely a Zack Snyder movie and his style of directing absolutely matched in this movie. The visual effects are now better and polished. The cinematography is beautiful and many of the shots are great something which Zack Snyder is good at.

All the major characters especially Cyborg have great character developments from the start till the end in this movie. In addition, the cast performance are even better than how it was in the theatrical cut now that many of their original scenes have been restored. Ray Porter, who voiced Darkseid, have done a great job in voicing the character considering that he was an unknown actor and audiobook narrator. Nevertheless, he gave a menacing and threatening voiceover performance in his role.

While the basic plot remained the same as the theatrical cut, some elements used by Joss Whedon such as Parademons being attracted to the sounds of sirens and smelling fear have been removed. Batman does not have some one-liners quotes and awkward moments anymore. As for Superman, he does not have weird CGI mouth and he wore his iconic black suit instead of the traditional suit. This version of Superman is more true to the version established in the previous movies. The humours in this movie is more natural instead of feeling more forced. Other characters such as Darkseid, DeSaad, Iris West and Nuidis Vulko have played some roles in this movie. The most important one is Steppenwolf. The character is no longer a generic villain. He is given a sympathetic backstory with his original intended design as depicted in his cameo appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He is even more threatening and a gruesome warrior in this movie compared to the theatrical cut.

The only bad thing about this movie is the movie is way too long. Putting a 4 hour movie in cinema is impossible. There are people to who are unable to watch the whole movie in one sitting even myself. Some scenes that did not contribute to the story can be easily remove to shortened the runtime. Fortunately, the movie is split into six chapters and an epilogue so that you can continue watching the movie on your preferred time. I felt the final scene is kind of pointless because the scene look more like a sequel bait considering this is the last time Zack Snyder direct a DC movie.

Last but not least, this movie is the true version of Justice League. If you have been disappointed by the theatrical cut, then watch this movie. I guaranteed that you won’t regret it. Don’t bother staying back for post credits scene because there are none.… Expand

Not being a huge fan of the theatrical version, I was pretty put off like most whom were following the narrative. As the release date came closer I was finding myself more and more curious and excited to see how this would evolve. When reviewers say "it drags on so long" they are putting their personal preferences ahead of the merits of the film. If you only like superhero movies and you detest black & white films from the early 1900s, you will probably feel like Citizen Kane drags on forever. Your review has to go beyond just your personal preferences and explain why those preferences are relevant to your review.

Ok, so why is it so good? Partly because Zack has dropped so many of his bad habits from his previous films. As much as you may like or hate them, there was always one moment which pulled a lot of people out of the film. In this masterpiece, he avoid the non-stop whiplash from Man of Steel, the Lex Luthor character from B v S, the "Martha" insanity from B v S, etc. There are flaws aplenty but they aren't as god awful as his previous works. The tone stays pretty consistent throughout. This movie moves slowly. Yes, the critics are not wrong on that point. But that is part of its genius. It gives the story time to breathe. It makes the characters appear more human and real. It allows the story to be fleshed out. But be warned, I am heaping all of this praise on the movie in spite of the CGI. A lot of it looks very dated by virtue of its age. And some of it looks like it was missing some post-production and are clearly worse than the comparable CGI in the theatrical 2017 cut. But it is petty to care about these issues when you have these well developed, human characters. There is a newfound empathy. And there is no overt political virtue signaling; you kids won't remember what that was like but it is a nice reminder of the olden days. So yeah, this is how super hero and comic book films should be made. It doesn't treat the audience like kids (hello Disney Star Wars), it doesn't race through action scenes to keep the viewer awake, and it doesn't feel like being immersed in a Saturday morning cartoon show. It has realism, humanism, emotion and depth. A bit of something for everyone who enjoys "films" and not just kids jokes combined with amazing CGI.… Expand

Конечно балл снял за то, что некоторые, понравившиеся лично мне, фрагменты из фильма 2017 года не вошли в фильм 2021. Ещё мне категорически не понравился формат фильма. Почему 4:3, зачем? Понимаю может это дань какому нибудь IMAX или ещё чему, хз. Но фильм будут смотреть в первую очередь дома на телеках 16:9, а может и более широком формате и всё это 4к просто теряет смысл.
Но если последние два абзаца не критичны, фильм явно удался! Концовка вообще улёт и просто кричит, просто требует продолжения! Выйдет думаю вряд ли, но ждать буду.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was a huge surprise for me and I'm not even a Snyder fan. Despite it being four hours, there wasn't a single moment where I got bored. Aside from the visual effect, the cinematography and action sequences, which are Zack Snyder's specialty, the characters, especially Cyborg, were greatly improved. They've been given arcs and have a purpose. Even the main villain was improved. Not only has a cooler look but even has a more character motives, and a backstory and a sympathetic goal that actually make me feel sorry for him. Aside from the main villain, seeing Darkseid was an absolute joy.
However, some of the issues I have so far are that this movie has too many slo-mo sequences, some unnecessary scenes like the singing in the beginning and hearing Wonder Woman's theme repeatedly and Martian Manhunter didn't really need to be in this film. Overall, this movie is not without its flaws but it's nonetheless a masterpiece, it's even better than Avengers Endgame in my opinion. The critics giving this movie a low review are just being petty. Honestly, I’m speechless in how I love the film. It isn’t perfect, there’s still things I wish they did, but it still gives me hope for what other film makers can do. This original content makes several scenes in the movie have more context that the theatrical just ignored.
Cyborg having a real storyline was a pleasant surprise. I liked a lot of what they did with him, even if I seriously disliked his weird cgi skinny robot body.
The flash is a freaking BADASS in Synders version, and a joke in the theatrical. There are 2 scenes in the Snyder cut that Flash uses the speed force in such an amazing cgi wonder; that I honestly think the Flash scenes single handedly make the movie worth watching for.
There are still several plot/continuity problems with the series as a whole, but I can honestly say I liked this movie and want more.
After Man of Steel, I hated Snyder and what he did to Superman's backstory. After Batman V Superman, I thought he was a joke for ruining Batman, Lex Luther, AND Doomsday all in one film. This movie redeems him and his overall vision for me. I just hope if he continues anything in the DC universe, that it stays on par with this film and not it's predecessors.… Expand

Halfway through, at chapter 4
So this part of my review halfway through. The characters are all improved and better. All the arcs have been taken great care of by snyder. The only exceptions would be the Lois Lane arc and the Commissioner Gordon character. Seeing the back story Cyborg was amazing and really puts him front and center to set up an amazing arc. Having Barry's arc more fleshed out and developed was good but not too much to save more for his feature film. There are alot of scenes I would have preferred been cut, and alot Iike in the movie that really should have been in the 2017 one. I feel like more of the scenes added are likable than unlikable, and really there aren't alot of unlikeable scenes just unnecessary ones. I also feel that the intro scenes and cgi are at times tacky but not to the point where it drastically ruins the film just something to cringe or laugh at. Chapter 3 so far has been my favorite one because we can see all the characters start to come together and blend into each other's arcs. Steppenwolf isn't a major improvement but the motives and reasons for him to be there along with the overall realization that darkseid might be the main villain is really interesting and draws you closer to being interested in the villains. I am now starting chapter 4 at exactly 1:51:35.

Part 2. The final battle was the exact opposite of the 2017 cut version. It utilizes every character to have a role. What flash did at the end opens a whole realm of possibilities not possible with the 2017 cut and if this is made the cannon cut then the flash film will have so much more to build on. Darkseid needs to return as well. And Jared Leto can play the joker when given a good script and he **** did it. The joker he played here was **** amazing. Batman and superman mirroring each other in the battle was amazing and the way they lead this team was awesome. Diana and Aquaman's ass kicking boss fight was **** great, cyborg has had the greatest role in this film and Ray Fisher needs to return to this character. This movie is the greatest comic book movie of all time. Zack Snyder took these characters and ran with them. He blended in the most surreal dark aspects of the DC universe possible and he created a wonderful film that really makes you appreciate both the original 2017 cut, and the entire DC extended universe even more. Yes this movie has unnecessarily long drawn out sequences yes it some bad cgi here and there yes there are a few cringe lines of dialogue, but this is honest to God the best super hero movie I have ever seen. Snyder cut needs to be cannon and we need a sequel.… Expand

The movie is a lot better than the theatrical version. I fell sleep while I was watching the original, but 4 hours did not feel that long. It is interesting to know how same movie can be so different depending on the director.

Yes, it's long... but it's totally worth it... I enjoyed every single minute of it... The previous theatrical version of this movie is nothing compared with this one... probable one of the best super hero movies in the recent years...

The waiting was long but worth it Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a surprise vindication with a mature approach to its superhero drama, better-realized antagonists, and improved action. A perfect adaptation for a DC universe movie.

The Snyder Cut is the movie the most of us hoped for. Well written, superb acting from everyone, substance over style. Ratings: 8.6/10

It was good. Definitely an upgrade from the theatrical version. I actually liked it better than Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition. But was it great? Like Man of Steel great? No. Man of Steel in my opinion, is the greatest comic book movie of all time and also the most underrated comic book movie of all time, I still don't understand why so many people don't like that movie. But was the Snyder Cut, Man of steel great? No.
It had its own share of plot holes, which I think could have been avoided.

The 4hr watch time actually helped, it gives each character breathing space and a lot of character development especially in case of Cyborg. Each character has its own moment to shine and you get a lot of insight about their back stories. Although I think when you do something like 4hrs long it comes with its own positives and negatives. And the ONLY negative I found is few scenes were only contributing in the length of the movie and not in the narrative at all.

But its a Grand for your buck. A 4hour film, filled with a lot of emotion, a lot of heart, lots of action sequence, and being a Zack Snyder film, a plethora of visual shots, and NOBODY does better visually appealing shots than Snyder.

Character opinions: (SPOILERS)

Superman- The trilogy is ultimately his arc. And I think Zack Snyder understands Superman more than any previous Superman directors ever did. From the very first shot of Superman's dying scream waking up the Motherboxes sets a well narrative of the film. To the very moment when he walks into the house of El, with the voices of his two fathers, Jor-El and Jonathan Kent, with the Hans Zimmer score … Chills. And the best moment in the film, when he just literally takes the blow from Steppenwolf's axe and just goes, "Not Impressed"... Nuts!!

Batman- The 2017 version presented Batman in a very bad portrayal and kinda low, but he gets the much much better upgrade in this cut. But I think it still low from the Batman we got in BvS. Which I think The Batman in BvS is the best live action batman we ever had. But overall its an upgrade and I think it sets Batman as the leader of the pack very well.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman- They had a little bit of a back story which sets their journey good. But that fight between Steppenwolf and Amazons. But just those three line, "I'll bathe in your fear", "Show him your fear", "We have no fear", makes that scene epic. And in case of Aquaman, the addition of Vulco makes his arc better.

Flash: One of the two characters who was severely damaged from the reshoots in 2017. Gets a much better character time. I would have loved to see more of Iris but alright. The speed force thing and turning back time was epic. "Dad, I want you to know whatever happens, your son was one of them. The absolute best of the best".. damn! And yes there was humor because their will be, the Flash is a humorous character, but this time the humor didn't feel silly like in 2017.

Cyborg- Zack Snyder always said that Cyborg is the heart of the movie and indeed he is. Its more a Cyborg movie than a JL movie and I think Zack Snyder gave a very touching character development. Especially in the scene between him and waitress which shows us the heart of Cyborg and that scene was really great and necessary. Steppenwolf and Darkseid- The 4hour time also helps to dig deep into Steppenwolf's aim and his motive and a little bit into his back story. The design is a MASSIVE upgrade which I loved. The inclusion of Darkseid, doesn't matter for how many minutes he was there, but just his presence gave a whole new dimension to the film.… Expand

I just watched The Snyder Cut and damn was it good. I can’t believe the junk we was given back 2017. This movie did a way better job of establishing characters relationships and I enjoyed it’s chapter book style of storytelling. Overall veryI just watched The Snyder Cut and damn was it good.
