Lackluster movie that even gal gadot or pedro pascal cant save. The 80s style is boring and not well executed. The story is blend and also the shots are not well crafted. I already fear jenkins starwars flick :-( sad!

The movie had 2 villains in it and they both were just fighting for the majority of the screen time. If your going to have multiple villains, you have to make it work and flow. This movie made it rough and hard to keep track of what was going on at what time. Also the stupid twist was that Wonder Woman had to stop the world from nuking itself because a magical rock fell from space granting everyone’s secret wish and everyone’s wish was to nuke the earth! This is just horrible! How they got away with this, I don’t know. But don’t see this movie. It’s just a waist of time. Expand

I’m so sad and angry about the movie. I genuinely love Wonder Woman. It’s easily a top 5 character. But this movie is full of plot holes. The reason why they stuff is badly explained. It feels more like scenes glued together then an actual movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I start to talk about the movie, I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It was beautifully shot, the action scenes were well done, unfortunately they had some problems of which I'm going to talk about a bit later. Overall this is a decent movie with sadly, a mediocre and cliched plot. Personally I would say that you should lower your expectations, and a lot.
Now let's talk about movie's highlights and problems. Let's start with the highlights. As I said before, this movie is beautiful, and especially the opening scene in Themyscira. This scene took my breath away. It was beautifully shot, beautifully created and overall nailed its messenge about truth and greatness. I liked how movie showed Diana's loneliness. Gal Gadot's acting was very convincing and she continues embody Wonder Woman perfectly. Chris Pine did also an amazing job bringing back our beloved Steve. Kristine Wiig and Pedro Pascal were perfectly casted as the villains. I think that the third act was better than og WW's one. Cheetah's CGI was good, and it looked nothing like Cats.
Now about the flaws. In the beginning of my review, I said that the action scenes were well done, however I can't ignore the fact that they were pretty cheesy and kinda cartoonish, especially the scene in the mall, which was very disappointing since I was expecting completely different thing. I also found myself to notice a few weird cuts here and there in the action scenes. The CGI was overall great, but there were moments when it looked ridiculously terrible, like Diana's running scene. The scene flet completely out of place, and you could clearly see that it's green screen. The pacing was both bad and good. The first half was boring, stupid and too long. However, the second half fixed it with action sequences. At the end, I want to say that it is a decent movie, not good nor terrible. It had some pretty good action and emotional scenes, however it left me wanting more than I got. Here's a small summary of pros and cons: Pros

- Great cinematography, especially opening sequence in Themyscira.
- 80's feel, it really felt like a movie from the 80's. - Gal Gadot was outstanding as Wonder Woman. She continues to embody the character perfectly. - Chris Pine did an amazing job as Steve Trevor. His character was like a fish out of water, and he nailed it. - Kristine Wiig was great as Barbara and Cheeth. She nailed the transformation from loving and shy Barbara to ruthless and cold Cheetah. - Pedro Pascal was great as Max Lord, however he got too much screen time.
- Action scenes were short and there were four of them in total, but they were amazing and well choreographed. - Movie succeeded in delivering its message. Cons

- Despite CGI being great, there were some scenes where it was horrible. Especially Diana's running and flying scenes. - Plot was very mediocre, cheesy and boring. - There were a lot of cheesy moments. Action scenes had this strange cartoonish style.
- Action scenes were short, their length was about 2-3 minutes. - Emotional moments weren't convincing enough. - Too much talking during the fight scenes. - 1st half was boring, 2nd tried to fix it. - Max Lord had too much screen time, movie should've focused more on Diana. - Cheetah's hate towards Diana was never explained properly. Yeah, she wanted to be like Diana, but the end she started to hate her for no reason.
- Movie left me wanting more, which is a bad thing.

Personally I rate this movie 8/10.

Sadly, Wonder Woman 1984 is its polar opposite. Terrible. The first hour and 20 minutes are excruciatingly slow. Then in the final hour it really picks up ... and becomes such a confused, inconsistent mess it'll make your head spin. Things just make no sense. Then there is the unfortunate fact that all men (except Steve Trevor) in this movie are groping sexual assaulters. One positive aspect of the first Wonder Woman movie was that it did not come off as a man-hating flick at all, in the way, say, Captain Marvel did. Wonder Woman was for everyone. Disappointingly, "Wonder Woman 1984" makes Captain Marvel seem as if it was produced by a men's rights club. It's hard to understand why Gal Gadot or someone else on set didn't say at some point, "This is just ridiculous." In any event, a real disappointment after the last Wonder Woman movie. Shockingly so. It gets 2 points. One for Gal Gadot and one for Chris Pine. They were great, but they had to act out an excretious tale. Expand

Really? This movie?

Perhaps it's the fact that this is the biggest semi-theatrical release since Christopher Nolan's equally scrutinized "Tenet," or the wear and tear of the year 2020 on us moviegoers as a whole, but did any of us really expect this to be as good as the first one? This time around, the action is definitely more sparse, but still well-choreographed. The pacing is wonky at times, but the third act is an order of magnitude better than the first film's. In fact, that's not the only thing better. Here, we have a substantially more refined performance from Gal Gadot and a fantastically well-developed villain in the form of Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord.

Maybe I'm blind to the truth or just blinded by all the joy in being able to get to the theater again, but I really didn't hate this. I'm curious to see what the response to this would have been if this were a graphic novel or an episode of a Wonder Woman animated series instead.

The first one was alright until the ending went and derailed the entire thing, but this film doesn't even actually have a plot. I'm not sure if it's a problem of too many cooks, or just someone trying to get a bunch of points nailed out so that they could create another movie. Sadly in this DCEU the later is the most common reason. Honestly I'm not sure who or how many people wrote the story for this, but it is non sensical and there's literally no point. Nothing that happens means anything. The character even gets a whole bunch of new super powers for literally one scene and never has them again. The consequences of the world almost ending (again) aren't in the future movies, and even after Wonder woman reveals herself to everyone no one even knows she exist. Frustratingly bad movie that's not even worth the free watch on HBO's streaming service. Seriously not even the CGI is good in this! Expand

This much-anticipated action adventure release misses the mark in so many ways that it's easy to lose count. The story was frequently derivative, the script played like it was written by a committee, the action sequences weren't especially engaging (and a little slow in coming), there were plot holes aplenty, the symbolism was obvious and heavy-handed, there was little to characterize the story (visually or thematically) as to the significance of its 1984 setting, and on and on and on it goes in endlessly lame ways. To be sure, Kristen Wiig delivers a fine supporting performance as a fence-straddling villain, and there are some nice sentiments worked in during the film's closing moments. But, compared to this film's far superior predecessor, director Patty Jenkins's ambitious but disjointed and flawed offering represents a big step backward for the franchise and its future (especially at a time when it can ill afford it). And, by the way, what was with that outfit Ms. Wiig wore in the closing sequence? It looked like a wardrobe reject from the movie version of "Cats." Expand

Naturally WW84 is the must have digital movie ticket of year end 2020, so we delved into it with gusto. Sadly this franchise seems to have lost its way a little.
One of the great appeals of Wonder Woman is her tie to the timeless past of greek mythology, and after hinting at a dark link with ancient origins, nothing further was revealed in that wasted storythread. Instead we get a trite, shallow, snake oil salesman routine on a global stage. Instead of a focused journey of growth and discovery, we get fire fighter Diana running from one flaming chaos to another. Gal Gadot plays her part beautifully, especially in her heartfelt scenes with Chris Pine. Some of those moments were heart wrenching as she reflects on the sacrifices of the past and future. Pine really rises to the occasion with maturity and resourcefulness. Pedro Pascal started off well but devolved into a melodramatic heap. Kristen Wiig also started well but descended into a shallow, vicious creature. Such wasted potential. Though the events of this movie play out on a global stage, the magnitude and investment is lost in a blizzard of pettiness and self serving motivations. There are no grand historical themes, no lessons for mankind, nothing of substance. I actually wonder if Jenkins was a one hit wonder, and if we should worry about Rogue Squadron.

WW84 takes a stupid name, puts it in a terrible (but trendy) era, butchers that era, butchers the characters, disregards plot, pacing and logic and effectively leaves an infantilized version of WW wrapped in a misandrist sheen.

It is following the same path of the original in that it is again pushing that awful Disney model for super hero films and distilling the source material to golden books level of childrens stories. There is nothing worth watching here. One minute you will find yourself rolling your eyes at how goofy the plot and dialogue is and the next you will find yourself agitated at how sexist and intolerant the production is. Even as a woman you should be upset because its pandering, disrespectful, and condescending. Sort of like Hillary Clinton expecting all women to vote for her just because she is female. So too does WW2 expect you to swoon and cheer for a "bad ass woman" just because you are a woman without actually representing women for the focus on negative stereotypes as reality.

Yet what is the most unforgivable sin is that when you put all the parts together its just boring. I seriously had to watch the film at x1.45 speed and it was so slowly paced it felt like it was normal run time. Thats not really an issue that its a female centric film. Its a problem with the character and its one shared with her DC counterpart, Superman. The character is essentially an idealized version of a woman but has no tangible flaws. She is unrelatable down to her DNA. They somehow managed to find a way of dragging it out and making it worse. This is further compounded by the heinous mistake of putting the role in the hands of Gal Gadot.

Granted, she tries her best and she does turn in a better performance this time around, that is still a low, low bar. The awful israeli accent has been considerably been thinned out this time around to where she is at least comprehensible, its still incorrect and that thick accent makes it all that much harder to connect to the protagonist. Its like trying to watch the recent Macbeth that stayed true to the original language and left the whole thing mostly unwatchable.

For all its sins the most grievous of which is the single dumbest ending of any super hero film ever made. All of this is inexcusable considering they have had the film ready to go for most of 2020. They kept pushing it back simply trying to wait it out for theatrical release. That means they had extra months to review the product, do focus testing and know that it was absolutely awful. Yet they went ahead and released it anyway. No one could see this and not know it is going to flop.

So yet again an unacceptable excuse for a WW movie. Had it not been another attempt at cloning Disney into DC it could have mustered as high as maybe a 3/10. Otherwise with the misandry and Disney model being the core foundation of the film it EARNS 0/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a slow-paced long movie, that tells a personal story of the three main characters (Diana, Barbara, and Max) in a quite satisfactory way, but leaving opportunity for future developments. Like Barbara Minerva's character, her transformation as Cheetah is overshadowed in the film and not as exciting as it should be (being the archvillain of Wonder Woman) . The character's ending in the movie is ambiguous, wether she kept her powers or not, but it opens up the possibility of Cheetah's appearance in future films.
Maybe they made this movie as a launching pad for future films, so it didn't feel like a good sequel. But overall, the story, CGI, and the movie is quite enjoyable.

As good as the original was that's how bad WW84 is. It's like watching paint dry. The same scene was repeated over and over until the audience makes a wish that the movie projector would break so to put us all out of our misery. The action scenes were comical without any suspense whatsoever. If you suffer from insomnia then this is the movie for you. Rules shift incoherantly. Pacing is bad. The action scenes are hard to follow even if you accept their blatant omission of the laws of physics ( for example a machine gun barrel is bent by a normal person .) This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie's premise is so insane and nonsensical that it has a hard time setting up constraints to wrangle in its own potential plot. The wishing plot is impossible to make a movie out of because the entire movie could be solved at any point by the right character making the right wish? Why didn't Chris Pine just wish for Madalorian's wish never to have happened? Why didn't Mandalorian have someone wish that nobody could stop him?

A few questions for you to ask yourself -
How do renounced/cancelled wishes work? Does everything get undone from that point in time onwards, or does it work as if the wish never happened?
Why doesn't Diana ever use her invisibility powers other than one time for one cool scene that they never explain or come back to?
Why was the entire beginning of the movie included?
Why do the people go from referring to Diana as a mysterious woman who nobody has pictures of and may or may not exist to saying to each other "where's Wonder Woman?!?" by the end of the movie?
And the explanation for Mando granting wishes to everyone across the world is nonsense - that particles will be beamed down from the TV studio, and those particles "touching people" counts as physical contact with him... He might as well go around spitting on people and telling them to wish for a million bucks.

The movie world was also just not immersive. Namely, when Diana walks through the city in chaos - it looks too staged.

Also when Mandalorian wished to turn into the stone, he should have literally morphed into the stone.

However, the movie will break its own rules for the sake of progressing the movie, and since we all know everything will be fine since we have Justice League and Batman v Superman in a later timeline, the stakes in 84 don't matter. Patty Jenkins, the director, has the movie set in the 80s which isn't a setting that's common in superhero movies. They utilise this setting by having more vibrant colors compared to the grey, dim colors of the first movie. Also, the set and costumes designers do a phenomenal job in bringing the 80s to life.I also like the idea that it is kind of a reverse situation to the first movie for Wonder Woman. In the first movie, she was the fish out of water learning about the world outside Themyscira but here it's Steve Trevor instead. Due to this, we get to see a completely different Wonder Woman from the first movie and a slightly flustered Steve which was entertaining. The action scenes are also pretty fun to watch but they are nowhere near as good as the first movie to be fair. Also, Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) was a surprising villain as he was more emotional and less stoic than I expected. Most supervillains in comic book movies, even the first Wonder Woman movie, are bad because they are bad and just stone-cold but Maxwell is more energetic than that which is different. On that note, I think the actors all do a really good job. Gal Gadot feels better than previous movies now as it feels like she has got the ropes. Chris Pine is still charming and charismatic and Steve Trevor. The chemistry between the two is still there and the best moments in the movie are the scenes where Wonder Woman and Steve are together. There are some emotional moments in this movie and Gal Gadots performance is incredibly convincing. Pedro Pascal is so good as the main villain and his performance throughout the movie as Maxwell Lord becomes more insane is very convincing and enjoyable to watch. Kristen Wiig as Babara/Cheetah, the secondary villain, was a controversial casting but I think she does a great job with what is given. Kristen is great as the weird and awkward Babara in the first part of the movie but is also great as the more confident Babara in the second half of the movie. On the other hand, the story is kind of disjointed and messy. It doesn't flow well and due to that causes some pacing issues. The movie is a whopping 151 minutes but this is fine if the movie was constantly engaging which this movie isn't. There are a fair amount of moments where the movie drags. Additionally, Wonder Woman's character arc in the movie is kind of weak. I feel like Wonder Woman from the beginning of this movie is still the same at the end of the movie. It doesn't feel like this movie was an important story to tell for her character and she even feels like a supporting character in her movie. The villains are shallow and cliche as well. Maxwell Lord has a son he loves which adds some humanity to his character but for the most part, he wants power because he just does. Babara/Cheetah motives are just so generic as she becomes villain just because she is jealous and that's it. I also disagree with the way Steve was utilised in the movie and felt the emotional moment with him could've been stronger.

I think my biggest complaint is how cheesy this movie is. I cringe so much in this movie even when it's meant to be serious. The movie is just laughably dumb at times and that is just kind of disappointing when compared to the serious nature of the first movie. For example, the mall action scene is just so cheesy with bad supporting actors, silly choreography and terrible lines. The movie also ends with a very cheesy message that they try to shove down the audience's throat. Instead of pushing the movie to new heights, the movie decides to embody all the cliches you can think of. The action scenes are fun, except for the mall scene, but there are some very noticeable and shoddy CGI. You think with all the delays this movie went through that they would fix the CGI but nope it's quite bad. An example would be the truck scene with Wonder Woman running along with the car and it's so green screen or the Cheetah CGI looking like it's from Cats (2019). On that note, one of my complaints about the first Wonder Woman movie was the dumb fight near the end against a dark-coloured CGI thing at night and Wonder Woman 1984 kind of does the same thing. It's not as dark and bad but it is just her fighting some terrible CGI Cheetah. Hans Zimmer who is a legendary composer does the score for the movie but it feels phoned in. Also, severe lack of 80s music for some reason. The score is just okay and that's not what I expect from Hans which is a shame. My last point is a nitpick but this movie is still set in the DC extended universe yet this global scale threat is barely mentioned. It just feels so weird that such a large scale event doesn't seem to be of that much important in this universe. Honestly, I don't even understand why the director made this a global threat because it didn't need to be. Also, the movie ends with no repercussions for some reason.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was wishing this movie came out. Unfortunately the wish came in the form of a monkey's paw clause. I lost 2hrs and 30mins of my life in exchange. I now renounce my wish to try to save the world from this movie. Wonder Woman 1984 is another score mark for 2020's disappointments. This is not quite the Cyberpunk 2077 of movies, but it could learn the same lessons from that debacle. This movie was undercooked and unpolished. WB definitely knew what they had and purposely used what goodwill it gained from Wonder Woman to leverage their streaming service. What will actually bothers most fans about WW84 will be continuity and the lack of context for new powers. This movie could have been fixed by either shortening it and fully make it a one off adventure movie that doesn't conflict with established storylines. The other way is to extend the movie even longer. Like how the Synder cut will be four parts. This movie need more time to cover all the villains and better contextualize her new powers. The plot holes alone will infuriate those dedicated to the establish DCEU. Whoever wrote this script took bits and parts of comics and decided to put it all in one movie and not give well scripted context to all these elements. I would almost say they were part of the last season of Game of Thrones writers. Another example of a great idea that was undercooked. It would've been nice to see WW gain her invisibility powers through some training flashback or anything besides, her Mr. Miyagi-ing it and just getting it to work perfectly. If you're stuck at home like me and have plenty of time on your hands, watch this movie. It's not a total waste, but you'll have some words on it after viewing. Hopefully the 3rd WW learns from it's mistakes. This also makes me very nervous about the rest of WB's 2021 release slate. I hope the Matrix 4 doesn't look like made for TV production value. Expand

A big disappointment after the awesome first movie.

The film starts off well enough, but it drags and slows down after the opening and gets... boring. I figured out the plot easy enough within the first 20 minutes after the opening scene. I was checking my phone halfway through to help keep myself awake (we watched at night), which I don't normally do when watching movies. Super corny, campy, and sometimes even downright stupid. Seriously. Some of the special effects scenes are also very... old-timey (obviously fake) and weird. When using CGI, you should never call the audience's attention to the fact that green screens are being used... it's that bad. Movies using special effects should always try to make it realistic and believable. This one fails at it. Heavy on the messaging, which is nice enough in these tough times, but a little too heavy and lots of spoon-feeding. Will never watch this again and I'm glad I didn't spend money to see it in theaters.

Diana Prince portrayed as a shrinking violet over Steve. This whole movie is a mess from start to finish. If this had been viewed in a theater, I probably would have left early. I pushed through because my wife wanted to see it but even she fell asleep halfway through, and she's usually far better than I when it comes to shutting off the brain and enjoying mindless entertainment.

The bad DCU is back. They captured lightning in a bottle with the original Wonder Woman and Aquaman but now they're back to making terrible movies. I'd argue this is nominally better than Justice League and on par with the awfulness of Suicide Squad.

I see the "iF yOu DoN't LiKe iT uR a MiSoGyNiSt" brigade is rallying on Twitter to defend this travesty of a movie. It's a bad film and it would be a bad film if it was a male lead or a female lead. It has nothing to do with Gal Gadot or Kristin Wiig. Patty Jenkins does deserve all the criticism for this weak movie -- not because she's a woman but because she was the engineer and conductor of this trainwreck.

DC should just call it quits on their movie attempts.

This movie has more heart than the entire recent JJ Star Wars trilogy combined (low bar, I give you that). What you have here is movie subtly defying the expectation of the superhero template. There isn't even a real antagonist or final battle or such things. It's an in-your-face love letter to 80s. A great cast with a relatable "villain". An all out 80s action flick with a wonderful soul. The action scenes aren't special at all and the villains are really bad in their writings. Expand

Когда Педро Паскаль тащит на себе не только "Мандалорца", но и очередное недоразумение от WB.

Both villains were likeable and were played pretty well. There were a few good moments in the film. 'Someone else' was also very likeable albeit underused (undercooked? undersomething anyway!).

That's about where the good ends. An early scene is super corny/cheesy. Made me wonder if DC misunderstands fans that ask for their heroes to be more heroic and less dark, thinking they mean they want them and their villains and regular civilians to all be cheesy caricatures.
Diana does something incredibly selfish that essentially steals someone's autonomy and puts them in mortal danger for much of the film. I couldn't really stop seeing it that way. Her original action is unintended, following through on it is not.
The two villains are pretty decent, but the method of stopping the 'main' one seemed both weak and as though you could avoid consequences of your choices a little too easily.
I wish the Barbara character's other side got explored more.
CGI looked bad to shockingly bad in several places.
Felt slow sometimes. I think it is 2.5 hrs long and doesn't have near enough story for that.
I also have a continuity objection in Diana's power set here vs two future stories she has been seen in.
Unfortunately my review is that the original film was far superior. This wasn't terrible, but it is very forgettable. An aggressively average 5.

There were parts that had heart and likability but taken as a whole, just was not very good, unfortunately. It somehow makes the first movie way better, in comparison, which had it's own flaws, but at least gave a concrete story, decent origin story, and paved a better path that should have lead to something better than WW1984. Wonder Woman's moment in Batman vs Superman was probably greater than this entire movie. Expand

Not only is this follow up to Wonder Woman bad, but it’s so unnecessarily corny to the point you just can’t believe you’re watching it.
