This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not only is this the worse Wonder Woman movie so far (I’m a big fan of the first one and everything else she was in), but this teeters on just simply a horrible, low class, corner cutting movie period. I am appalled at the professional critics reviews, as they lost all respect from me now. To give this movie ANY credit shows a excuse making mentality. Shame on you all !

First off, the very very beginning was great ! I was feeling at home with a proper Wonder Woman movie and story evolving. BUT the first moment I seen one of the women jump, I was like what ?? 2021 and the special effects are going backwards ?? Literally as the movie progressed every single special effect looked horribly fake. Faker than past older movies even. What’s going on ? Come on critics, call a duck a duck, don’t be shy. Tell it like it is. This movie cut corners and it ruined it for me. Next, the premise behind the stone/storyline/villain was just so discombobulated and grossly separated from anything believable. I could go on with details but none of us have time. It just sucked, the villain sucked the idea sucked the execution sucked and the core of the premise wasn’t based on anything I can believe unlike any other comic book movie. The way Steve came back was just utterly stupid. Next thing, Wonder Woman don’t fly. That was ridiculous and again looked horrible. She is not Superman, YET took a Superman position in the sky. There was a million ways I could have made this movie better and up to par with the first one. I sure hope this is not a sign of what’s to come next nor do I want Covid19 to be a excuse for corner cutting. Furthermore we as fans and critics should NOT go easy on judging this movie. Facts are facts and situations don’t spawn excuses for mediocracy to be claimed as ok.

I loved the fact they finally did the invisible jet (cause she does have one for real) and I like the Lasso, BUT again they super overly cheesed out with the way she used it by grappling onto clouds and lightning bolts.. Like that's a big NO ! Cheesy, wrong. Every other comic book movie has been great till this one. (well End Game kinda sucked too, but at least it was better than this absolute disaster).

I'm honestly amazed at anyone who is unintelligent enough to accept this as a correctly done movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed the first Wonder Woman movie from 2017. I enjoyed the story and left the theatre satisfied. WW84, on the other hand, is a huge letdown. The writing is bad, the script is bad, special effects are terrible and Diana Prince rapes a man whose body is borrowed by her former love interest Steve Trevor. The movie is a mess with a sloppy plot device of a wishing stone to guide the entire ark. It's also way too long and the acting is weak. I say skip it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Like most audience members I was blown away by Patty Jenkins' first Wonder Woman. Ever since we got our first glimpse of the sequel, way back in December of last year, I have been anxiously awaiting it's cinema release. Unfortunately due to it being the year 2020, I viewed the movie from the comfort of my own home curtiousy of HBO Max and now I'm here to share my impression s after only having seen the movie once. . With all that said, let's jump right into the review.

As your can tell from the giant green 8 popping off of your screens, you can come to the logical conclusion that I enjoyed this movie and that I did. Unlike my fellow reviewers who seem to have been frustrated with the lack of action throughout the film, and they are correct, the film traded that out to focus on the characters and their varying motivation s. What does Barbara want? What does Maxwell Lord want? What does Diana want? These are the questions that the film takes it's time to answer.

Which off course brings me to the return of Chris Pine as Diana's one and only love: Steve. Going into this I was afraid that they were just trying to shoehorn him in to get Pine back into it somehow. However what they managed to do instead was present him as the one thing in her life that Diana cannot let go off. His return places a serious obstacle in her heroic journey as she has to learn to accept the truth: he's gone and there's nothing she can do to change that.

In conflict with her Barbara is a nerdy girl who everyone looks past although see has a lot of good to bring to the table. She envied Diana for how strong and carefree she appears on the outside, but as a result she loses what makes her so unique among the sea of people who dwell in the world: her humanity becoming the super villain the Cheetah.

The films main antagonist, Maxwell Lord played by Peadro Pascal seems to be a charismatic and charming business man on the outside is in fact a phony who aspires to be a great corporate entity who his son can look up to. However his greed gets the better of him causing him to want to take more and more but he some realizes the truth: everything always has a cost.

In the end the film preaches that we should be careful for what we wish for, that everything has a price, and that truth prevails over lies.

The only major grip I have with this film is the occasionally forget cgi and the unnecessarily long runtime. Outside of that it is a great comic book movie that stands as one of if not the best film of the dceu.

The Plot made no sense, especially Pedro Pascal’s character. Even if it made no sense, it must’ve been an entertaining mess like the Pirates of the Caribbean’s sequels, right? No! Good lord this was about as fun as British cuisine. Finally we have the Cheetah. I saw a distinct similarity between her and Jamie Fox’s Electro, which is a massive insult because at least Electro had amazing CGI. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wonder Woman 1984.

Aka Wonder Woman: The Wishmaster.

...and I wish this film had not been made.

I was a staunch supporter of the first film's intelligence, style and coherence. Albeit with the acknowledgement that the final boss battle was terrible.

But this? How have they taken yet another promising DC ip and run it into the ground?

"Where is your joy? Your warmth...your humanity?" - Diana.

I literally felt that line as a fourth wall breaking observation on the film itself.

One professional critic was singing its praises for showing all the ways women can be strong...

In this film you have two examples....

1. Be born with super powers, so much so that you beat highly trained, athletic adult amazons at the age of 10.

2. Wish to turn yourself into a leopard woman.

Strong women indeed and both are fine, grounded and achievable examples for young women everywhere.

The. ****

I loved the first movie and thought this one was just ok. It's 2 and a half hours which is probably the worst thing about it. It's just not worth that much of someone's time.

Aside from that... they retread some old ground. In the first movie diana was a fish out of water and now it's steve's turn but... it's not quite as funny in my opinion.

Also Kristen Wiig as a villain... terrible casting. She'd be fine as a geeky best friend but as someone ignored, gradually turning evil... she just can't pull it off. Plus realistically... she's not nearly as attractive as gal gadot. It's kind of weird having her as a rival.

The action is pretty good though and it's well shot. Some pretty solid performances. Not a great script or story. Just some nonsense about a magic wishstone. Overall... it's fine but a big step down from the first movie and too long. 2 hours would be much better.

The original was not great, nor is this great, but it is certaintly not as bad as many of these incoherent critiques. The Avengers annoyed me and I found "cheesy", with a flying worm essentially as the bad guy, and wordless dudes that were climbing on buildings that did nothing. There is nothing in this film...any more cheesy..than anything in an Avengers film. I have no idea what people are talking about, if they think anything Avengers is remotely realistic..and somehow this is not. Its literally fantasy. Its movies. It isn't real. The comments complaining sound pretty funny as most of these people likely like the Avengers and think its great...when its no more "cheesy" than anything in multiple Super Hero films. It's a good sequel, with the biggest knock, being a long run time at 2:30 mins (I watched it in 2 sittings)...and the first 45 minutes or so is kindof slow for a superhero movie..but that's about it. I was still drawn in by the mystery of the plot, as I wanted to know what would happen, and the last 1/3 builds to a pretty exciting climax, typical of a big Super Hero film. Perhaps people had too high of expectations ? Pretty good sequel, to a flawed original, I enjoyed both. (also great performance by Pasqual and an interesting possible metaphor to his character.) It's at least 1.5 hours too long for this joke of a "story", the dialoges are cringe even for a superhero movie, there is no timing in this movie at all, everybody tries to be funny and fails. PLEASE tell me this is not the same director that just announced to direct the Star Wars Rogue Squadron movie. There's absolutely zero chance that his untalented person can deliver. This is the biggest movie disappointment in an anyway weak year, a total waste of 2 1/2 hours. I give it 2 points for the trailer as well as the opening sequence, everything else is simply rubbish. Can't believe what I just saw. So, so bad. :( Expand

Expand

After so much time and all the delays it had, it's strange to realize that the expectations far exceeded the results, and that personally, Wonder Woman 1984 was a massive disappointment.

Clearly the success of the first film granted Patty Jenkins ample freedom, but that doesn't translate into a good movie, much less a great story, and Wonder Woman 1984 is an excessive and cartoonish film.
I can even go so far as to say that there were oversaturated moments that made me think of Schumacher's Batman & Robin.

It certainly doesn't fall as low as that slop, but Jenkins plays with a lot of elements that doesn't really help her film. Mainly, I deeply believe that it was a mistake to continue placing the character in the past. An element that also shows an implicit hypocrisy on behalf of the director, since she criticized Joss Whedon because Justice League contradicts her films, but this same film contradicts what Zack Snyder did in BVS, because apparently she forgot that Diana Prince herself says that she walked away from humanity 100 years ago, and 1984 shows that she did not do that.

I must say that at all times the decision to place the plot of the film at that time was more a whim of the director, than a real decision that adds something to the character, especially since we already know the sophisticated woman she became in the present. What Wonder Woman 1984 really is, is a love story in which the lead character ultimately learns that the easiest way is not the best option and she has to learn to let go. It's nothing new or innovative, but I assume that for many viewers it will be enough for emotional catharsis, especially considering that critics have called it an antidote to the reality we're currently living, which makes me think about what their reasons would be to value it, if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic.

And what's the worst sin in the film? Its villains and their remarkable lack of threat.
Pascal's character is the catalyst, while the wrongly chosen Kristen Wiig is the muscle.
Pascal is at least credible, Wiig's plot twist is simply laughable, and forced to work more by the structure of the narrative than because it has a specific or necessary weight in the plot.

Gadot delivers, and shows that the character belongs to her, and her chemistry with Pine is still genuine like in the first film.
Pine is her best support and anchor. Now her real challenge will be seeing her standing alone in the character's third planned film.

In small mention, I have to give kudos to Hans Zimmer's remarkable score, but thumbs down for the CGI and some VFX shots, since there are moments that look really bad, especially the scenes in which Wonder Woman is running.

In conclusion? It was more hype than anything else.
And for me it's one of the biggest disappointments of the year.

Most of the film is dull and boring has nowhere near the excitement of the first.
Young Diana is good then were made to care about pointless characters and a wishing stone. making wishes is not action and no one cares, the whole plot is so poor and has been done before. All of the ways this could have gone with the Amazonians, the old Gods or even a Justice league Villian. But we got cheetah who created a little challenge and is a character seen so many times before that thinks she has been wronged and goes crazy. Maxwell lord who was always going to change his mind on what he is doing in the whole movie and making wishes just isn't that interesting than a villain Diana can not beat.

We also get Steve Trevor again who does little in this film but follow Diana around like a lost sheep. They should have gone with a new character really because from his introduction you knew he was not going to be staying very long and Diana would be upset like in the last movie pretty much the same thing again.

What makes this one not very good, is that it has literally no plot, and they brought back chris pine for no reason at all. This part doesn't even make sense. This film is also incredibly boring for at least 90 minutes. It is terrible at holding the audience's attention. Now the reason this gets a 4, is because the music is great (Hans Zimmer, of course), and the action was actually good, but it took 2 hours to get there....

Mostly a stinker of a superhero film. Oh, I almost forgot to mention how bad Kristen Wig's villain was....just terrible. There really was literally no point in making this movie, BUT it still is a one time watch, and that's it. I won't be buying this one on 4k when it goes on sale. The first Wonder Woman with Gal was actually pleasantly surprising and quite good. Sadly, this sequel is a dud.

Wonder Woman 1984 offers such a deep message about greed & Shows how your actions have consequences. It gives a brilliant look at 80's followed by great performances from Gal Gadot, Pedro Pascal & Kristen Wig, nice action sequence, nice visuals & also good work by Paty Jenkins.

Hans Zimmer did a wonderful job.
Start of the film with Zimmer's music is so Dope, introduction of Cheetah & Maxwell lord to DCEU is good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is in a Suicide Squad level. The first movie of Wonder Woman was awful. It really sucks. But this movie was able to surpass the first one. They took the Shazam idea of a childish hero/universe and put it into this one with a naive hero. The first action scene, in the mall... come one! The CGI scenes were garbage. Why did she use the whip to swing in the lightning if she learned how to fly? How can a scientist borrow an item that the FBI asked for analysis without any concern about it? How could a scientist come with an inference about an ancient artifact without further tests, just guessing that is fake by looking at it? How could a real hero maintain no real concern about the life and consciousness of the one who her lover took the body to swing around? How could a real hero steal an airplane? The whole movie is a real mess.

The movie has a narrative structure of the 2000s superhero movies. It's shallow, a crap story only to justify a bunch of corny and horrible action scenes. The first was terrible but this one was able to vanquish it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok, let’s just get to it. Wonder Woman 1984 is trash. I’m gonna break it down. We start off at a mall scene(gonna skip the childhood scene cuz that doesn’t matter), the visuals were D grade, like a movie out of the 2000s, and the acting was TERRIBLE. Wonder Woman shows up to basically rescue hostage from a couple guys who stole from a jewelry store/black market. and the editing just destroyed this clip. We barely see her fight, we just see guys get thrown across the room( it’s her but we don’t even see it, it cuts off before we see hits land), and it makes this scene atrocious. That was the beginning. And I kid u not after this scene, we don’t see ANY Wonder Woman action whatsoever for a STRAIGHT HOUR and some change, which makes the movie boring asf. It’s just people talking and more All Men Are Trash bullcrap. Minerva is depicted as the nerd, invisible girl who never gets any attention, which was fine, but this totally gets wrecked later in the movie, when we see her with Max Lord. Then Steve got butchered so hard his character was a complete dumbass he BARELY had a role, like he was there cuz he’s Wonder Woman’s boyfriend. And then the concept of the Dreamstone( which gave Maxwell Lord his powers) was supposed to be similar to the monkey’s paw philosophy( be careful what you wish for) and even THAT was trash, because if you want to end it all you have to do is “denounce your wish” which thins the plot and makes it WAY too simple. Then the next time we see Wonder Woman is on a road with a bunch of tanks, where we discover her powers are getting weaker because of her “wish” from the stone to bring Trevor back. The editing in that scene is even worse. At least in Man of Steel we see the actor lift cars which makes the scene more dynamic. There’s NONE of that here. We don’t even see Wonder Woman land any hits because it always cuts away, even when she supposedly pushes one of the tanks. The scene executions were HORRIBLE. Then we pick up at the White House and Minerva has a copy set of Diana’s abilities( because of wish to be like her) then we see her protecting Lord for BO other reason than a simple crush. Like BRUH HUH???. Literally beats the crap out of Diana for a man she barely met. Like what??????? Then the plot was so confusing we go to Egypt and Puerto Rico and stuff like that, and it was just shriveled. So we pick up at the “climax”, where Minerva wishes to be an apex predator hence the Cheetah. Now Max DEFINITELY had inspiration from Trump, especially with his podium scene, and they didn’t even try to HIDE it. Literal garbage. So now we are at the point where Diana is traveling to the base of Max, after she denounces her wish, and we get a cringe goodbye from Trevor. She starts swinging on clouds, falling with style, and then of all of a sudden she starts FLYING. How? WE DONT KNOW Expand

It took so long for Wonder Woman 1984 (WW84) to be released everyone either forgot about it or was sitting on pins and needles. Honestly, I was one of the ones who was starting to forget that this movie was even coming out until the news that it was coming to HBO Max. So you know I had to check it out on the Christmas weekend. Would this sequel live up to the hype of first movie? Or will it be forgotten in the utter mess that 2020 and Pandemic world has left us in?

I'm going to keep it simple as possible with WW84 and that's hard to do with a film that was all over the place. WW84 was a jumbled, slightly boring, unfocused mess. When I say "mess", I don't mean because the movie was horrible, I mean "mess" because the movie was just very average compared to the anticipation. I've only seen and heard people say this movie was "meh", "bad", "boring" or "good". I'm was quite frankly baffled at that range but not after viewing the movie. I understand that most of this angst comes from the viewers and reviewers because the first movie was just so focused and detailed. WW84 had promise but, just like Tenet, it suffered from "you're doing too much" disease. Yet strangely, WW84 also didn't do quite enough, and for a movie that runs for 2 hours and 26 minutes that's quite a feat. The movie looked pretty good but also didn't give us the magic from the first movie. Except you, Gal Gadot, you are magical to look at. The dialogue was basic even though Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal did their best to keep it interesting. Side note, K. Wiig gave Gal a run for her good looking money for a minute there in the movie. But let me focus, don't get me started on the action. There was nothing new and the cool points of the trailer were so trivial and minimal in the actual movie. It seems like they forgot this was a super hero movie because there was way too little action for a long movie like this. Either give us more action or make the action you have so dope it's memorable, but they found a way to do neither. It was only a little taste here and a little taste there but that's about it. It's honestly like the whole creative team were all on different pages for this movie and the editing couldn't save the final product. The puzzle was already configured and the pieces clearly weren't in the right spots. I mean for goodness sake there wasn't even a real villain in the movie. Come on DC! You're already lagging behind in the movie franchise world, you cannot fumble the ball like this after such a good first film just a few years ago.

With all of that said, the movie really is just an average super hero flick. There is some entertainment with action but the length of the movie and the unfocused narrative lead to the movie feeling boring and inconsequential. If I'd paid for this in the theater, I'd be pretty upset but as a streaming options, it's not a reason to get HBO MAX but if you already have the app you can stream it if you're bored with a handful of popcorn.
