And when she's on the screen you just wish she got less dialogue and more action because she's just a terrible actress (Natalie Porter in Star Wars BAD). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. WW84 gets unfairly trashed in the sense that, in a vacuum, it's not a bad movie at all. The movie suffers though, because the first one was so good. Gadot was awesome in the role as usual, and surprisingly, Wiig was fantastic in her portrayal of Minerva as well. The real issue with this movie, other than the pacing, is how Steve Trevor's return was handled. It was downright cringy, and neither WW nor Steve really see an issue with him inhabiting some other guy's body with no thought given to this guy's life. Other than that, WW84 is perfectly fine, just didn't live up to expectations. Expand

Just a silly, hypocritical and cynical film. It's still terribly boring. In addition a lot of idiotic drama and very few action scenes. (2, only 2 small ugly scenes for 2.5 hours of film). Just expensive peace of **** ;)

A nice joke can save a bad drawing...but not the other way around. This right here is a studio, a director, a producer and writers, with their head stuck just too deep in their own as*es.
They gave a blank check to someone that just wanted the cash.

My biggest complaint is that the Max Lord character is uninteresting, and not fun. Instead of making him a super bad, he is simply a guy who makes wishes come true. He character revolves around murky rules for wish-making, for example, why does Barbara get 2 wishes, but nobody else? And how exactly are the wishes killing Max, and how many is too many? It felt contrived, not well thought out. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine were good. So was Kristen Wiig, which surprised me a bit. But all three together were unable to save the poor script which was full of good wishes and positive messages, but extremely light on action and entertainment. The Cheetah character was great, but she and WW only had 2 fight scenes totaling about 5 minutes. She doesn't fully realize her powers and ability to be menace until the very end. And Cheetah is a sub-villian to the inferior Max Lord character, or a co-villan at best. She should have been the focus of the movie. I wonder if the producers felt pushed to make the movie feel good, because of Covid and general societal upheaving. You know what would have made me feel good? A good movie. Lastly, my wife and I had a good laugh at the prospect of making this movie a 1980s period piece. References to the '80s were few and far in-between. We decided that the whole reason for naming it WW 1984 was so they would have an excuse to dress Pine in a few ridiculous outfits for a total of about 30 seconds. It felt like false advertising. Everything here is even more boring than the first film plus the two and a half hour long runtime makes this film hard to get through. I was almost never interested in what was happening. There was a cool action scene in the desert and anything with Pedro Pascal was kinda entertaining but that was it. Gal Gadot does a worse job here than in the original Wonder Woman. For reference, I thought she was okay in the first Wonder Woman. Chris Pine was good in this but his reasoning for being in the film was dumb and he didn’t serve any purpose to the plot other than their chemistry was good in the first film. Their chemistry here is still good but Gadot’s weak performance stains it a little bit. Chris Pine is only in the movie for about less than 50% of the runtime. His appearance was pointless and they shouldn’t have included him at all. I thought Pedro Pascal did a good job with the material even though his villain is absolutely terrible. He doesn’t have any interesting motivations or ideas other than I wanna be all powerful. Pascal did a great job at making his villain incredibly over the top which at least made the film watchable when he was on screen. Hans Zimmer’s score was good too although it’s significantly weaker than his other musical scores. The films story is incredibly cliched and nonsensical with everyone getting what they wished for and absolutely no one wishes for certain things to happen? There is a wall that is put up in the Middle East and not one person in the world wishes for it to be taken down? It doesn’t make any sense. Since the film takes place in the 1980’s, I expected the film’s tone and visuals to be reminiscent of that era but there was almost nothing that told you this was the 80’s except the music and the cars. They could have made this movie so much better by leaning much much more into the 80’s tone but it chooses to go on the safe, predictable route. If you like the DCEU then you might get something out of this but any average movie fan can skip this and not worry about missing out on anything. Expand

Not since the Nolan Batman movies or the first Snyder films I have seen such great attention to character and world development.

If there are common themes to various super-heroes, the search and promoting of empathy in Wonder Woman's journey is subtly and beautifully depicted in this heartwarming film. It reminds me of Spider-Man 2 in a very positive way, as it seems like every character is a crucial element of the hero's story, and not just another box to check. It also makes a lot of sense, then, that the main villain is this megalomaniac with a Napoleon complex who is, paradoxically, a complete failure in his personal life.

As far as story goes, I was very positively surprised. But this movie also exhibits great pacing and exciting action scenes, that felt refreshingly organic. The grandiose directing and score put the cherry on the top.

Great action movie with a carefully crafted script. Probably one of my favorite super-hero movies of recent years, maybe one of my favorite, period.

In my experience, I personally enjoyed it while also seeing why others won’t. The last half hour of the film is where most of the negative criticism lies. Though the rest of the movie was great, the last half hour and final conclusion were the most disappointing and least memorable. One thing that heavily annoyed me when watching was the fact that Maxwell Lord has the same amount if not more scenes than Diana. He’s not even a character worth having this many scenes because he is just a boring antagonist. Maxwell Lord was definitely the worst part of this film unlike the second villain, Barbra Minerva/Cheetah. I absolutely loved seeing the slow transformation of Barbra becoming Cheetah throughout the film. I wish that the movie only centered around her and Diana since she was the best part of the movie for me. Expand

A poorly written, racist movie. Pro-state propaganda masquerading as progressivism.

An entire 30 minutes of this movie is basically just Islamophobic, pro Israeli state propaganda. The only Muslim character in this entire movie just happens to be an evil warlord, who wishes for, and I quote, "For all the heathens to be kept out forever." It wouldn't be so bad if the movie just played into this stereotype one time, pandering to the American Muslim scare that's been a thing since 9/11 is something Hollywood loves to do, but it gets worse. In one of the following scenes, Wonder Woman, played by former IDF Gal Gadot, swoops in to save a group of little kids from the evil Egyptian soldiers who of course would never stop or try to avoid the kids, because this movie portrays every single Muslim in it as inhuman. It's not done though; when Lord asks everyone to make a wish, the movie cuts to another Muslim (he's not even a character in the movie, he just has 4 seconds of screentime) and his wish you ask? He wishes for bombs, because of course he does, because Hollywood only cares about representation and avoiding stereotypes when it lines their pockets. Is any of this really a surprise considering this movie stars a literal war criminal?

While pining for her true love (Chris Pine), she comes to numerous rescues… on the DL. Two villains emerge: Max Lord, a greedy huckster who wants to rule the world (Pedro Pascal with verve but not special) and The Cheetah, a mousy researcher with a wish for super powers (Kristen Wiig who manages to subtly incorporate her comic charm). The evil-rules-the-world theme is tired and the evolution of the story is rather dumb. What we really care about is the action and there are some moments that thrill, but most of the scenes aren’t spectacular. To make matters worse, the attempts at emotional drama get in the way of a good time. After the engaging spirit and rousing stunts in the original, this follow-up doesn’t manage to instill the same magic or thrills. BTW, look for the real-life daughters of Gadot and Jenkins in a snowball toss near the end with Gadot’s hubby and other daughter riding a carousel in that sequence. NOTE: Sit thru the early end credits for a wonderful surprise cameo. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Suicide Squad got my vote for worst DC movie (at least in recent years), but Wonder Woman 1984 has now taken that spot and may remain there for a long time. This movie is just bad, I thought the first movie was decent, but the sequel is a poor follow-up. I found all the principle characters to be rather uninteresting aside from the main villain, indeed Pedro Pascal's performance was the only reason I watched it all the way through and that's setting The Mandalorian show aside completely. I find Gal Gadot to be mediocre as Wonder Womoan, Kristen Wigg just seems to be herself and Chris Pines really doesn't come off as much different playing Steve Trevor or Captain Kirk. The story is interesting but the movie comes off as a mix of clunky, flat, corny and also ridiculous. The invisible jet sequence was silly, the lightning lassoing was silly and I found is straight up ridiculous when she starts "flying". The ending was rather mediocre. I felt nothing when Wonder Woman had to let go of Steve Trevor, indeed I only really felt something when the villain reunited with his son. The movie is at least a half-hour too long and that is really being generous. The CGI and effects are at least decent, but this leads to one of my biggest issues with this movie and the first Wonder Woman movie: slo-mo. Every action sequence in this movie and the previous movie uses slo-mo all the time and it SUUUUUUCKS! I can't stand the overuse of slo-mo in these movies is just drags things down and doesn't make the action seem anymore impressive, if anything less so. Expand

I couldnt love the change in pace any more if I tried.

WW84 is a return the camp and cheese of yester years. No over the top giant cg battles, no constant bombardment of action. If you're looking for the generic formula that Marvel has invented of stupid constant action you're going to be let down so much.

This movie has all of 3 action scenes. I love it. It focus more on jokes and story telling than it does on fights. The biggest issue with the original movie is how awful the stupid cgi fight is at the end of the movie. This doesnt go for that. It's clearly harking back to the old Superman movies and a kind of 90's Batman feel. My only real complaint is the pointless opening as her as a child. Im sure its to give the casual movie viewer that extra bit of action and setup the golden suit at the end of the movie. Frankly you gain nothing from it. It could be cut completely. Really thats the only thing wrong with this movie is run time. With a little trimming it could flow and work much better. If you're looking for something wholy so UN MARVEL and UN DISNEY generic this might be for you. I base this off me hating the whole MCU as just awful movies. As a reference point I like Fox's Xmen, Sonys Spidermans and Blade. So I dont hate comic movies I just hate Disney comic movies.

From time to time, I get bored and jumping in and out of the app. WW84 reminds me a lot of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with too much going on with not too much action, another thing it reminds me of TASM 2 is Diana and Steve's relationship, Idk why they have to bring him back. His character hurt the development of Babara. In some of the scenes, the CG is pretty bad, and the third act fight scene is laughably bad and wasted so much potential. Am I going to watch this movie? Probably not. Very disappointing coming from the first film. Now, I'm not too sure about WW3 now. Expand

Infuriatingly stupid and dumb. For anyone who loved the 2017 movie, this would be nothing but a terrible disappointment. This movie should start with a disclaimer saying "Please turn off your brains for the next 2 hours and 35 minutes or youInfuriatingly stupid and dumb. For anyone who loved the 2017 movie, this would be nothing but a terrible disappointment. This movie should start with a disclaimer saying "Please turn off your brains for the next 2 hours and 35 minutes or you might end up with an excruciating headache." The script is totally inconsistent and literally nothing makes any sense. The very first scene itself is completely inconsistent with the premise set up in the prequel. I see a lot of reviewers regarding that scene as one of the best scenes of the movie, but clearly, they have forgotten or never watched the 2017 movie. As a child, Diana was not allowed to partake in martial sports with the other Amazonians and the Queen was especially against it. Here in this movie, we're forced to see the Queen proudly watching child Diana compete in the deadly warriorship olympics. Utterly distasteful and nonsensical.
And then the actual movie begins, which really has nothing at all to do with that first scene. The plot is pointless, immature, and illogical. The characters lack dimension and conviction. Crucial details are just omitted or explained away with illogical dumb explanations. The motivations of the villains are completely unclear. For the climax, the threat seems to be of a nuclear war, but given the film's premise, such a war would not be in the interest of either Maxwell or Barbara. But they won't stop it. It's utter nonsense. BTW, the story of Barbara makes ZERO sense. At the end of the movie, you might just feel pity for her for the way she got treated in the movie. The ending sucks. No questions are answered - what happens to the stone finally - what happens to Barbara - nothing. There's just a random Christmas scene at the end that again, has nothing to with anything. It was July when they flew to Cairo. And now, it's Christmas. Deal with it!
The entire plot of the wishing stone is just SO BEYOND DUMB. It's so unoriginal it hurts your brain if you think about it. The stone grants one wish, and so Maxwell wishes to be the stone itself so that he can himself have infinite wishes. Oh really!? I mean there was a skit in the FRIENDS show where Rachel mocks the guy who says "if I had a wish I would wish for more wishes." THAT WAS IN 1994. People were so tired of this cliche back in 1994 that comedy shows were writing jokes about it. And that's exactly what Patty Jenkins' big fat idea is for a 2020 movie supposed to be a blockbuster.
The film is so immature. Devoid of depth, philosophy, or anything of substance. It grapples with a message that it doesn't understand. It makes abhorrent assumptions about the nature of humans that everyone, and yes LITERALLY EVERYONE on the planet is greedy and selfish and destructive. Throwing the whole "there is good in humans" message of the last film into the trash bin. The writing is ridiculously child-like and yet I can't think of a child who would actually find this movie interesting. There's no thrill, and the anti-climax is literally a drawn-out monologue!
It's a disgrace. Honestly, everyone involved in making this film should be deeply ashamed of themselves for unleashing this garbage on the fandom. It's especially disgusting because it's supposed to follow up on the 2017 film, which as far as I am concerned, was a great movie. I loved it whole-heartedly and had big expectations for the sequel. This didn't just disappoint my expectations, it even went back in time to ruin the first film with that garbage opening scene. Seriously, shame on ya'll.
I found the attempt to emphasize Wonder Woman's super-power of truth over her strength endearing, and the performances of Gal and Kristen are as good as they can be. The script isn't their fault, after all. So that amounts to the 1 star. Nothing else deserves any credit.
Patty was clearly so obsessed with the 1978 Superman kinda films that she forgot it's 2020. WW84 wants to be Superman so hard that it even forces in a scene where WW is learning to fly just like Superman! Which is just as dumb and pointless as it can get. I mean, again - it's 2020!! People expect, NEED, movies with far more maturity now. Patty, please leave the writing to people who know how to do it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was very excited for this movie. A superhero movie in the 1980’s sounded cool. I watched it with my family and I was disappointed at the end. My issues (plot issues, continuity errors, little things I noticed) include.
1. The plot revolves around a wish stone. A stone that grants your wish after you touch it. My 4 year old cousin could have come up with a better plot than a plot that revolves around a wish stone. 2. Why did the PROTAGONIST want to turn off the security cameras at the beginning? It’s usually the other way around, right? 3. When Diana was talking to Max, she says she doesn’t own a TV. Then why does she have 9 TVs all stacked on to each other in a room ( probably just monitors for security cameras so I don’t care that much) 4. The acting was meh. I thought Gal Gadot was fine, but Kristen Wiig was disappointing to me. 5. Wonder Woman could have very easily gotten the balloon that a kid accidentally let go of an floated into the air. The very next scene literally showed her above the clouds in the sky, but she decides not to save it.

Those are just a handful

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Uninspired, convoluted, messy. WW84 is disappointing. Watching every minute of its over 2 and a half-hour runtime is a chore due to its terrible pacing. Action set pieces are few and far between and is filled with so much exposition. BORING AF. The story? Oh boy, that plot involving a freaking wishing stone is an example of lazy writing. What a lame excuse to bring back a certain character and a lamer excuse for the villains to go bad. The villains? One is so chessy and over the top while the other is cliche (Electro and The Riddler-esque villain). WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??? Don't start with me with the '84 subtitle. It has zero bearing to the story they could practically set it in any year they wanted. I'll end the review here. I still have a long list of issues with the film and may take forever. The first film was good that is why I am extremely disappointed with this one.

Even that unexpected cameo at the end couldn't save the final disaster of 2020.

The bad: everything else. This is a SLOW movie, with barely any action in the first hour and a half, that at times feels like a Lifetime drama exploring the difficulties of being a woman. They could have cut a good 40 minutes from this movie. The comedy is awful, the villain makes no sense, every man in the movie is a horny creep, and the ending makes no sense. That "Imagine" video Gal Gadot posted that was laughed off the internet was a great preview of the ending of this movie.
