The SE7EN and ZODIAC Fincher influences are there, and this feels much more ingrained (for better more often than worse) into the detective aspect of Batman as a character. This comes at the expense of Bruce Wayne as a character, which is more glaring in the 3 hour runtime. But, spending time in this version of Gotham was a real treat. Expand

This leftist Marxist divisive bs agenda in everywhere on TV is why NetFlix is going broke. Otherwise, I very much enjoyed the movie. The actors played very well in their roles and I like the story: it reminded me more of the early comic books. The dark, morbid, creepy, and sad nature of things... yet there is hope and there is a fight that still lingers, and Batman, and Jim, while they are down, they are not giving up. And you can also feel the main villain wanting to "fix" things, in his own deranged manner... you feel bad for him but then you remember he's a psychopath criminal....... and lastly, by the end of the movie, you feel like things are reaching a boiling point.... things will get worse, but so will Batman. The musical score is awesome as well! Expand

So many elements of the film, from its detective noir story following a Jeffrey Dahmer esque Riddler villain, (masterfully played by Paul Dano), to its more internal struggle of Robert Pattinson's Batman two years into his fight for Gotham city. Matt Reeves The Batman is a spin on the caped crusader that has not been put to film in quite this same way by other directors. The film is crafted masterfully by excellent directing, acting, beautiful cinematography, and a great score. While weighing in at nearly three hours in length, the film surprisingly doesn't have much drag to it because of the expert pacing. With a trilogy and a pair of television shows planned from this point, Matt Reeves' The Batman is an excellent first step into a new universe. Expand

This is the closest rendition of a graphic novel on screen I have ever seen, apart from all its peers. The cinematography is just spectacular, each scene is worthy of pausing and framing, and is loaded with allegory. The fight scenes remind me of the taught, lightning-speed moves of the excellent Arkham series of games. I read recently this is one of the most rewatched movies in history, and now that makes sense. Pattison plays the role well, a man who is torn by this past and trying to redefine himself in the present. He displays remarkable intelligence and resources becoming a billionaire detective, yet shows character flaws and weaknesses becoming an everyman. His deliberate carefulness in each scene is appropriate, but this vanishes into decisive action for the well-being of others in times of crisis. This Batman upholds the right to life and dominance of law more so than previous iterations. The movie relies less on gadgets and vehicles, and more on wits and will. Kravitz plays an excellent Catwoman, born of pain, and bred to intelligent survival. Dano is a formulaic Riddler, but the unrecognizable Farrell is a remarkable penguin, stealing every scene. The entire cast performs well overall. I think we are now justified in seeing another remarkable Batman trilogy with a very unique aesthetic and arc. It is a pity other hero franchises cannot reach these levels. Perhaps Batman’s lack of powers and adherence to justice makes him the most relatable protagonist of all. Expand

Dark, mature and exciting, something different from what Marvel has unfortunately accustomed people to believe that it must be a superhero movie. All the characters come out what is necessary and no more, they do what they have to do and do not stow the narrative. the noir elements combined with batman are fabulous and give him that dark touch that the character deserves.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman is an incredible film with not much problems dragging it down. The cinematography is the best I've seen in a superhero movie in a long time. This movies looks better than Dune and that's a long feet. The vibe of Gotham is literally what you would expect Gotham to be, this **** hole place filled with corrupt leaders and insane criminals. Pattinson's portrayal as Batman is just really damn good, I think it's a tie against Bale's Batman. Riddler as a villain may not be Heath Ledger level but he is definitely 2nd place. His reasoning for everything he did fits perfectly well with Bruce's journey into becoming the hope of Gotham.
The movie is much more of a detective film compared to the other movies. It's a cat and mouse chase just like any other detective but this one is done really well in particular. Some of the reveals will surprise or excite you for what will happen next and the movie rarely diverts away from that main plot.
Every actor did wonderful in this film with Robert being the carrier. The arc Bruce goes through and finding out the secrets of his family into becoming the hope Gotham needs rather than the revenge fueled man he was at the beginning was absolutely astonishing. There are basically sorta 2 plots in this film. Number 1 is his chase for the Riddler and 2nd is him finding out the truth about Gotham and his family's past. All this plot concludes with an ending that wraps itself really well and feels as though all the suffering everyone goes through has lead to this final moment.

Flaws
1. Robert Pattinson's acting as Bruce Wayne. I understand the criticism of Bruce Wayne and Batman being the same character personality wise but I disagree that it is a fair criticism. His entire motivation in 90% of the film was him not caring to be Bruce Wayne. He doesn't care if he is a Wayne and he doesn't care about his public image. My criticism is how he looks. He looks way too emo to be Bruce Wayne and he never changes his voice when he is Bruce Wayne. I know he doesn't care but he should care about people finding out that he is Batman. He also doesn't feel rich, there is really no scene that shows the fact that he is very wealthy. His appearance has Bruce Wayne always feels a little flat

2. Luck and coincidences
For example, after Gill Colson explodes in front of Batman's face (I have no idea why he is so close to a bomb that's gonna explode in seconds, he wouldn't have time cover his face and somehow his face remains clean), the police waited to bring him atop the police station and then starts to question whether they should take his mask off. Lucky him.
And another one which is the biggest sin. In the final riddle, he happens to be helped by a police officer that happens to be there and he also happens to know stuff about carpet which helped Batman to solve the riddle. This is so damn lucky and lazy by the writers. Looks like they got tired making things happen for a reason so instead things just happen because they do. 3. The length
This movie is almost 3 hours long and I think after watching it, you can trim out some bits that isn't really needed (which would prolly be like 10-20 minutes). Some scenes where Bruce is drawing the clues on his floor or scenes where he is walking through the crime scene could be sped up a bit or chopped down cuz it feels long and nothing interesting is really happening. Other than that, it's still an incredible film. My actual score is an 8.8 (very close to a 9) but metacritic includes no decimals so I'm giving it a 9. It's my favorite movies from DC since The Joker and The Suicide Squad.

I might be speaking with a bit of "recency bias," but I THINK this is one of the best DC movies yet: They did a great job at making things feel a bit more realistic in this version of Batman. This was coupled with amazing settings, scenery and atmosphere, I don’t think there was a single sunny day in Gotham.

I was absolutely blown away by Robert Pattinson's rendition of Batman! I was one of the initial naysayers who "Didn't want no... “TWILIGHT BOY” in their Batman movie!" But I was surprised and humbled by his stellar performance as a younger and grungier version of Batman/Bruce Wayne (He's certainly better than the LAST guy who played Batman).
Hell, even if Pattinson ended up doing a poor job, all the other actors would have covered for him: Zoë Kravitz might be the best Selina Kyle yet, I still refuse to believe that that was Colin Farrell portraying The Penguin! Dude literally disappeared into that role both literally and figuratively. Paul Dano took the role of The Riddler to places I would never imagine the role could go. Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis put their own unique spins on their respective roles.

If I were to give ONE "harsh" critique on the film, "The Batman" feels a bit too much like one of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. Which isn't a terrible thing, I suppose. This movie is certainly a must for any fan of Superheroes so go watch it ASAP. And make sure to go potty before the movie starts cuz it’s a long one!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been waiting for this movie since the moment I saw the first shots. Already from them it became clear that the movie would turn out to be at least incredibly stylish. And this expectation was justified!

Pattinson fits perfectly into the role of the inexperienced, still unrestrained, but already moral compass and 'don't kill' code, Batman. He feels very physical here: you literally feel the necessary heaviness of his suit, the force of blows in well-placed fights. Robert looks just as cool as Bruce Wayne, who is written less like a billionaire playboy, but more like a recluse still reeling from a childhood tragedy. It's definitely an interesting approach that creates a psychological thriller/detective atmosphere.

As far as the cast, it's generally very good. Paul Dana just steals his scenes. And the very approach to the character of the Riddler has been very updated for our time. You believe him, you are afraid of him, you want to put him behind bars in Arkham. The suspense associated with it is very reminiscent of Fincher's Zodiac, which is a very nice compliment. The confrontation with him is purely intellectual, which makes the film feel like a noir detective until the third act.

The role of the Penguin is played by Collin Farrell, although he was made up in such a way that I would never know! His character is also less comical, closer to the ground, but not too much. I wonder what they'll do with it in the sequel.

Zoë Kravitz is perfect for the role of Catwoman. Her gait, look, blows are performed with the necessary grace of a cat. And most importantly: her character is not introduced for fan service, she moves the plot almost on a par with Batman.

As it turns out, director Matt Reeves, already an established master of thrillers, also has the guts to release a three-hour film in the era of couch-watching movies. But I warn you: this visual perfection needs to be viewed on a larger screen. Watching the film, you understand why it was decided to make the film so long: it has so many necessary storylines, many characters, and there is enough time for everyone. I can just imagine how Reeves argued with the producers, proving the necessity of each scene. And it's true, although the scenes are long, they never drag on too much. They rather make you savor the atmosphere and create pleasant suspense.

And there is something to savor here: each frame is thought over ten times, verified a hundred times and polished to a shine. At the cinema, I dreamed of a print screen button about every two minutes! Cinematographer Greg Frazier, who was apparently restricted in Dune, went all out and experimented with everything he could. Haven't had such visual ecstasy from watching a movie in a long time. The oppressive atmosphere of Gotham, mired in crime, is also facilitated by the very oppressive music of composer Michael Giacchino. And the song Something in the Way by Nirvana fit perfectly. I will rewatch the scenes with her again and again.

I would like to call the self-sufficiency of the film a separate plus. Yes, there is literally one scene that directly hints at what will happen in the sequel. However, in general, the film feels like a stand alone work. Even if you don't know anything about the character, everything will be clear to you. There are no constant references for the sake of references, which are full of Marvel films and sometimes detract from the film. And accordingly, there is no desire to look at YouTube 'top 100 details that you did not notice!'. Instead, it seems to me that the content around the film will be devoted to video essays that talk about the themes and symbols of the movie.

Of course, it was not without its downsides. Due to the fact that Bruce is a recluse here, you don't feel much difference between him and his alter ego. We seem to always see Batman on the screen, just sometimes he is without a mask and mascara under his eyes. I also missed interacting with Alfred. It feels like several important scenes with him were cut in the editing. I hope that their relationship will deepen in the next film. Also, sometimes I was annoyed by the invulnerability of the suit, even for bullets.

To sum it up, if you're willing to sit for three hours in a movie theater for visual enjoyment and speculate with the director about the psychology of outsiders, then you need to go to the movies. If you're a Batman fan, you need to go to the movies. If you're fed up with Marvel movies and want something fresh in the genre, you need to go to the movies. The film is worth the three hours you spend on it.

I admit thatThe new Batman is here and from the trailers I already had high expectations and I can say with a smile on my face that this movie lived up to them. Robert Pattinson did raise a few concerns in me, but thankfully unnecessarily. I admit that Christian Bale remains the best Batman for me, but this one was also great and had something going for it. But what the film did best in my opinion was the atmosphere. It was absolutely fabulous. It immediately drew me in and didn't let go until the end, even over 3 hours in. Not everyone will like it. The pacing is slower and most importantly this is a bit of a different Batman. It's much more detectivey and rarely gets any action. Personally, I welcome this news warmly and I really liked this detective style and enjoyed watching the various pieces of information being uncovered until the very end. As I mentioned before, there isn't much action, but it's all the better when it does occur now and then. It's really great, and it felt quite realistic, which made it even more immersive. In short, this is not some superhero action movie with a full load of action and an immortal main character. On the contrary. Batman isn't as strong here and at times he takes a beating from his enemies, which adds to the aforementioned realism. What added to the quality was the music, which at times perfectly highlighted the moment and more than once I got goosebumps or simply the feeling that I was watching something spectacular. I would also like to mention the excellent chemistry between Batman and Catwoman, because we have perhaps never seen such chemistry in any Batman movie. So the question is kind of whether this is the best Batman movie. How about. It's hard to compare, because this one was vastly different from the previous ones and it goes its own way and it's doing just fine by the way. I personally prefer Christopher Nolan's Batman, but that's a matter of taste. Back to Matt Reeves' Batman, though. I believe that some will love it for its change to the detective genre and others will find it a long, slow and mostly boring affair. I'm among those who welcomed this new release and for me, it is a wonderful film that I recommend. Expand

It’s Halloween night. Do you know where the Batman is? Is he lurking in the shadows of that alleyway you face after a robbery you commit? Is he inside the building you’re vandalizing, waiting for your guard to drop? Or maybe he’s behind youIt’s Halloween night. Do you know where the Batman is? Is he lurking in the shadows of that alleyway you face after a robbery you commit? Is he inside the building you’re vandalizing, waiting for your guard to drop? Or maybe he’s behind you in the subway as you heckle an innocent bystander. It’s a big city. He could be anywhere. He could be anybody. How would you ever know?

Matt Reeves’ interpretation of the caped crusader in “The Batman” focuses a lot on the fear that he instills. Fear has been in important plot device in every iteration, but it’s played on a lot here. A lot of criminals will boast how unafraid they actually are, but when they see the cowl erupt into the light, and the speed of him increase they can’t help but cower and lose that naive bravery.

But fear is not the only tool Batman/Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) has in his arsenal. In addition to being a very imposing figure with incredible, but grounded, gadgets, Batman has his mind, where he takes on the identity of the world’s greatest detective, a famous moniker that Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin (Colin Farrell) takes and puts on its heels. And he needs to be if he hopes to save the city from its latest threat, The Riddler (Paul Dano), a masked serial killer hellbent on revealing the corruption of the city of Gotham and its leaders. Not just the crooked cops but the elected officials, members of the mob, and philanthropists alike. Those who promise change, only to be forgotten and betrayed once the power they seek is attained.
Is Riddler wrong? Not necessarily. Corruption is a powerful weapon used to turn good men around into a life of deviance. But is he going about it the right way? Again, not really. But what can one do when the judges who would oversee the cases of the men put away are as corrupt as those that are put in front of them. That’s where the brute force of those like Batman who answer to nobody but themselves and the code they abide by comes in. There’s a line that you can cross, and once you do you’re just like those you seek to destroy.

Now if you’re reading this, and thinking “Well geez, this all sounds a little familiar” you would be on the right track. While Batman movies/comics/games have been saying more or less the same thing for the last 80+ years, the difference lies entirely in the execution. At this point with all the source material available, it’s hard to get the underlying of Batman wrong. Everything lies in the performance that is given, the stakes that are held, and the technical work behind and inside the camera.

One of the most talked about and prevalent aspects of this film is the beautiful and at times chilling score by Michael Giacchino. With his imposing theme, to the beautiful undertones of “Ave Maria”, there’s a lot to love. It’s a soundtrack that has the intense seat-gripping horns and the calm harps that can mold themselves to fit into whatever scene writer Matt Reeves and Peter Craig throw at the audience. And then there’s the cinematography by Greig Fraser. He has one of the best eyes for what the camera can show us in a modern blockbuster. He’s done the great work for “Dune”, “Vice”, “Zero Dark Thirty”, and more, proving time and time again he’s a force to be reckoned with and one that ultimately should be rewarded with an even more impressive career going forward.

There’s so much to talk about, but there’s also so much movie to be had. And keeping in theme with having this review be as spoiler-free as possible, it must be urged that the words on this page can’t express how much this movie deserves to be seen. Of course it won’t have any problem with that, seeing as it has sold out its early access fan screenings days before the official release.

Rapid firing what this movie had that was especially lovely: shirtless Robert Pattinson—Colin Farrell doing a little Penguin walk while tied up—Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman (nothing specific here, just her entire presence)—incredible action work by stunt coordinators Darko Tuscan, Steve Griffin, and everybody else on the stunt team.

Overall, “The Batman” brings a lot of the same to the table, but does it with a lot more craft and precision than some other efforts. The Batman was a wonderful film, and personally I can’t wait to see the rest of the story unfold in future movies.

In my opinion, this isn't the best Batman movie, but it's the most comic-accurate batman we've ever seen on screen. Pattinson absolutely kills it as a young Bruce and a young Bats. Loved it.

Finally a true Batman movie, not a Bruce Wayne movie, Batman is in costume 90% of the time and the focus is squarely on Batman from start to finish. An inspired take on Selina Kyle really put this movie over the top, and Kravitz Catwoman played of Pattison's Batman perfectly. This is a long movie, and not perfect, but I like how all the characters tie into the story and each other, so nothing feels unnecessary or out of place. I wasn't totally sold on this twisted version of the Ridder at first but Dano nailed the character. Stunning visuals from start to finish complimented by a strong score made this movie a blast. WhatRobert Pattinson is obviously well known and a very good actor but he truly embodies the role like I have not seen since Christian Bale. He is fierce, intimidating, calculating and not someone you ever want to catch in the wrong mood. What you may not have expected however is that this is The Riddler's movie too and therefore a detective movie throughout.. perhaps the thing Christian's was missing the most of, Bruce is using his brain and quick thinking skills more here than he ever has in a live action movie. Selena Kyle played by Zoë Kravitz is perhaps the most shocking standout and has more to her than meets the eye and throughout her chemistry with Robert as Batman and Catwoman is the glue that holds this movie together. The villains of this movie are honestly what you would want. Cold. Hateful. Brutal. And of course.. loves to get on Batman's last nerve and make him truly think "Does he really deserve mercy?" BUT what keeps this movie from being a 10 was Paul Dano as The Ridder. Absolutely overacted the entire time and made me want to laugh in serious toned moments and that's a shame because for the first half of the movie he's great but that last half is just awful with his scenes. The most surprising thing about this movie is Bruce's psyche, his relationship with Alfred, his father figure, is heartfelt while also being somewhat realistic when a child experiences a tragedy and how to live with it and what he's going through the entire time and keeps you on the edge of your seat and his path to TRULY becoming the savior to Gotham they need and deserve. Matt Reeves has created not just one of the best detective movies I've ever seen but in my opinion a stronger first film than even Batman Begins and the best Batman movie since The Dark Knight Rises. Ladies and gentleman, Robert Pattinson is The Batman and we are in for some incredible films if this movie is the floor rather than the ceiling. We deserved this movie and everyone involved should be proud and excited for the future. Expand

One of it's best elements is how different it is to other on screen adaptations. The burton films were gothic and dark (for the time), the Schumacher films were wacky and over the top, The Nolan films were realistic and grounded and Snyder's were edgy and apocalyptic. This film is dark, moody, gritty and mysterious, and rather than a Superhero flick it is more an action/mystery thriller with noir vibes, with Batman being portrayed as an actual detective solving a string of murders. The film has many more brilliant elements to it too, from the Great performances (Especially Pattinson, Dano,Jeffrey Wright, Zoe Kravitz and Colin Farrell), brilliant characters, carefully layered and brilliantly crafted plot from Matt Reeves, absolutely stunning Cinematography from Greig Fraser, the brilliant, brutal action scenes and of course Michael Giacchino's swelling musical score. There is so much to love about this film, such as the smaller aspects, like Bruce's character arc, his relationship with Alfred, Selina and Gordon, and the horror elements, portraying Batman as a monster from the night that strikes fear into the hearts of criminals. The city of Gotham was easily the best in this movie too, the movie really captured the heart and essence of the city and it's people, state and corruption. Gotham is as much of a Character as the others in this movie and I love that. My only issues with the movie were that some characters like Alfred and Penguin didn't get enough screen time and that the ending was a bit anticlimactic. Overall an absolutely magnificent film, one of my favourite comic book films ever, (the similarities to the long Halloween really helped) and a 9/10 for me. Still trying to process it. Not sure if it's better than The Dark Knight yet ( comparisons will obviously be brought up), will have to rewatch it for that, but for now I can say that I love The Batman, and I highly recommend it Expand

This adds another level to the character. The punches I feel, the atmosphere is so well done I think I just walked around the mean streets of Gotham for about three hours. This is world building at its finest and it’s the way it should be. Many movies don’t pay attention to the world they’re inviting the audience into but this is done brilliantly. This is a more believable character than the one in the Dark Knight but it lacks those amazing scenes that you got with the Joker. The villain is interesting and you understand his point but the Joker seems more villainous. Look I’m not asking for another Joker movie. I feel like that’s done. Maybe scarecrow or someone like that next.

Great movie! Would watch it again. Patterson did a great job.

The Batman

The Batman is a near three hours of delicious and dark crime noir. It is bleak and thrilling. Dealing with a Batman that's new to the mask and the vigilante life, it strays from the exploration that former iterations have delivered.

The Batman knows what it is and the direction by Matt Reeves straitly sticks to it. The Batman delivers stunning cinematography and styling, with a delicious score by Michael Giacchino.

The themes (of class, wealth, inequality and PTSD) that The Batman delves into are handled carefully.

A good story, direction, cinematography and action choreography would be nothing if the cast isn't brilliant, and the cast of The Batman is nothing short of brilliance. The broody and contemplative Batman is balanced with a flirty and sensual Catwoman, and the villain in the Riddler is malign, twisted and sinister.

The Batman is a riveting start at Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's iteration of the titular character, and should leave audiences wanting more from this Batman.

9/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really great and engaging movie. It takes Batman to a different level from previous movies, the horror batmam, a lot of times we feel the villains fear of batman and in a lot of ways that wasn't repetitive at all, the direction knew how to not get boring with time and it clearly works. This movie got some little jokes too here and there and they work well within the story. We could see a lot of good acting too on this film, although sometimes I wanted to kindaaa laugh when I think I weren't supposed to. VFX were actually great and seamless throughout the movie and made a good experience. Love interest it's ok, I just hated the bike scene in the end, like why, just say goodbye that's enough, but this is truly personal of my way of thinking in direction. Anyway, overall this is a GREAT Batman movie with a new and good take on the hero, some scenes I personally think doesn't work as well as they should or are unecessary. Overall really liked the film Expand

The actors played their roles pretty well too and the fight scenes are so well done, they nearly get niveau of the Matrix Movies (except from The Matrix : Resurrections). Reeves and Pattinson together have developed a more brooding and vengeful batman who is the most present figure in the movie. Reeves seems much more interested in diving deep into the "Batman" persona fully then trying to balance it out with the seemingly sidelined alter ego of Bruce Wayne. Pattinson shines as well as he can in the new (awesome looking) bat suit, of which he does roughly 85% of his scenes in. Zoe Kravitz did predictably great work in what I ultimately thought was a role and arc that could of used some more development or thought. Major all time batman movie highlights I will remember from this movie include: The Soundtrack, the car chase seen, and the Riddler prison scene. Expand

My issues being that the penguin was rendered to a minor villain given his notorious reputation, we were barely given any screen time to understand this new iteration of Bruce Wayne as the movie is centred mostly around the detective work of the Batman, and the Riddler's final product was very underwhelming but still gruesome detailing how dangerous he can be.

This movie was a major improvement over Affleck's batman and did the dark tone right like the Dark Knight Trilogy.

USP of this film is its Music; direction; story; acting, all in the descending order.Matt reaves provides us a bit too long film with a slow first half but in second half, oh boy, they nailed it. Bruce don't know the concept of batman in this and he's trying hard to understand it which is great but riddler was on different level. I should say just two steps less than late heath ledger. Film should reach 750 Million and am sure it will. 8.5/10. Expand

Incredible film. More of a murder mystery, detective movie , rather than an over the top superhero picture. That being said, it’s still a Batman film.

For the first time in a live action version, Batman is the most interesting character. This is a character study on Batman and is far from the usual comic book fare. It is a refreshing direction that is slow and methodical. Though it is technically not an origin story, it weaves the beginning tales of iconic characters masterfully. Robert Pattinson as Batman and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon specifically were highlights as their partnership was truly believable. Wright’s Gordon in particular felt very world weary as it felt like Gotham was consuming him. That leaves Gotham itself as it can clearly be seen how wretched the city is as it consumes everyone living in it. While the plot has some minor issues and the pacing is not always perfect, this is the best start yet to a new Batman story. I cannot wait to see where Matthew Reeves takes us next. Expand

Best Dark Real GOTHAM BATMAN. A MUST SEE!!!
If you were expecting The Dark Knight walking into
this movie, then you will for sure be dissapointed. But
if you are expecting just absolute beautiful cinema;
then this is the Batman for you.
Mathew Reeves is a genius. A genius for following the
Comics portrayal of The Batman. For the first 10 min
of the movie I got a little nervous because it wasn't
the Batman that I was used to. But after a little bit of
seeing the most Accurate Bruce Wayne and most
accurate Batman combo, I was surely surely satisfied.
Overall, the writing in this movie and cinematography
is just perfect. Perfect perfect perfect. And a huge
thanks to Michael Giachino for being the best
composer of all time next to James Newton Howard
and Hans Zimmer.
As for the acting. There could not. And I repeat could
not have been a better cast. Paul Dani made the
movie alone with his preference on the Rider. Just
genius. And if I didn't know before the movie that
Colin Ferral was the penguin, I would have never
guessed it. As for Robert Pattinson; bravo my friend.
You played the absolute best version of The Batman
that anyone could ask for. Where as with the other
Batman's, they were seen as two characters (Batman
and Bruce Wayne), your version matched the Comics
of the right balance of Billionaire Playboy and the
right balance of dark rich vigilante. And Zoe's acting
can go without saying as the perfect cat woman too.
Hot, sexy, straight to the chase, hurt, broken, and
Flexible.

The movie deserves an 8.6 rating but I’m giving it a nine to boost the rating.

'Nolan's The Dark Knight was more of a Joker's movie while this movie though has a great antagonist in the form of Riddler it's a Batman movie. The characters of James Gordon, Selina Kyle & Penguin standout and I look forward to seeing more of their character arcs. Pattinson's portrayal of Bruce Wayne isn't quite there yet but he does pull off a good Batman.

Matt Reeves had a great take on the story and this is the best rendition of Gotham we've seen so far outside of comics. My only nitpick is that 'The Batman' movie starts to feel like a slow burner of a movie that ends with a bang but the ending didn't quite hit the home run.

But with the end credits/last scene in Arkham my excitement for the sequel and expectations are sky high! This movie is a must watch even if super hero movies aren't your preference 'The Batman' will still entertain you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Batman is one of the most riveting comic book movie this year. The detective noir element provides a fresh relief from the previous batman series (and that's not to diss the Nolan Batman, those are terrific as well, but the Batman and Robin from the 90s, not so much) and as most of the critics have stated, this is a more darker batman. Now this isn't a origin story, but more of a finding self for the main protagonists. The riddler is quite a maniacal antagonists, leaving a set of clues for Batman after the victims have been brutally murdered. The interest of Catwoman I enjoyed very much, her story is very intertwined with the relation of the mob boss, Falcone. Everything in the plot is done very well, I was never bored and glued on the edge of my seat. Even the slow moments were excellent as well. The special effects and Reeves use of the red and dark colors really stands out. The only minor gripe I can have is that it was a little long. Overall, I would personally give it a 9.5 out of 10. Also, the ending is a nice little treat leaving fans to have fun with the speculation ;) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you go into this movie expecting an over the top, typical superhero movie you will be disappointed. This is more of a detective noir movie than a superhero one, and wow, is it a breath of fresh air. Reeves does something different and effective with the character and story and I thought it really worked. Giving characters that have always been seen as pillars of good more depth is a great decision.
The acting was good. Was glad that there was much more Batman than Bruce, and thought that Rob did a better job with the former. TLDR: If you like to watch quality films, try it out.

This movie's detective aspect are pretty good, but they are far too convoluted, and aren't as interesting as I would've hoped. As a result there is a lot of exposition. Overall I think this was a great beginning to a trilogy, not without it's flaws, but still pretty awesome. Expand
