An incredibly well-crafted piece of filmmaking. One of the best detective-noir movies of all time and easily the best Batman movie. The Villain, while not as good as heath ledger, is still an incredibly well written antagonist. All these negative critics about how it is too dark or Batman is emo… I'm sorry but that’s just dumb. Its a detective movie like Se7en, ofc it’s dark you dumb people. And sorry but Christian bale and Michael Keaton also hat black eye make up under the mask, but in this film it doesn't just magically disappear! All the other Batman movies was just a crowd pleasing blockbuster without showing Batmans internal struggles and etc. also The Batman has one of the best opening and endings in a movie I have ever seen! I love this movie for it being comically accurate. it was the batman being a detective and I love how simple they can keep it sometimes. everyone's acting in the movie was so excellent. whoever says this movie is "overrated", I disagree with you.

I was surprised about how vulnerable and human this batman is compared to the others. Of course he isn't going to be beat but this one feels a little more like an actual human being than some almost supernatural invincible entity. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great take on Batman. More realistic in a sense and showed the early development of the legend surrounding Batman within his universe. This is not an experienced Batman, but his beginning steps with being the Batman. This movie depicts a Batman that is not a combat master or knows his way out of every situation because he lacks the experience. This movie will show Batman getting messed up because he is not thinking calmly, he is thinking with rage. I really appreciated the depiction of him being amateur Batman because it shows us something no Batman movie has shown before and that was him learning how to be the true Batman. By the end he has grown substantially as a character and learned from the mistakes he made throughout the movie. The villains in this movie are also within the early development of their villainous careers, showing the penguin before he is the top boss and who was there before him. The main villain is the riddler and this is the first instance Batman and the riddler ever come in contact. The riddlers perception of Batman is twisted and unknowing of the Batman’s true motives. Spoiler, but the riddler actually believes the Batman is his partner in vigilantism, due to his inexperience with Batman. This movie is a great watch that truly shows how Batman started and the struggles he went through to overcome his internal battle.… Expand

1. It's the film too long? No, I didn't notice that almost 3 hours passed cause the tone, the vibe was so intriguing that kept me hook to the screen all that time.

1. It's the film too long? No, I didn't notice that almost 3 hours passed cause the tone, the vibe was so intriguing that kept me hook to the screen all that time.
2. Was the acting of Robert Pattinson good enough to please the Batman's fans? For me, yes it is. Batman's character it is driven by vengeance, a lone vigilante who doesn't feel ok with killing but can't stand injustice, not so chatty, with a heavy past, a burden, not been able to solve his parent's murder, so from time to time he has some emotional burst, completely understandable.
3. The Batman-Catwoman interaction was classic, well performed, as it's supposed to be. It made recall the old batman classics.
4. Jim Gordon was terrifically well performed by Jeffrey Wright.
There are so many aspects to recall about the film looking for perfection (status that actually doesn't exist) that I could go on for a big while, detractors, those who whine for every plausible things they didn't liked of the film, they will never be pleased, they will always complain. For us the true fans it was an outstanding film for the great hero that Batman it's.… Expand

Many Batman movies have been made so far, but I think this is the Batman movie that is closest to the comic. It reminded me of the Long Halloween and Year One panels in places, but also had elements of Year Zero. I understand that “The Dark Knight” is the better film overall, but man does “The Batman” scratch that itch for me. From the presentation of Gotham, to the score, the theme used to tell this story, the performances from Pattinson, Wright,I understand that “The Dark Knight” is the better film overall, but man does “The Batman” scratch that itch for me. From the presentation of Gotham, to the score, the theme used to tell this story, the performances from Pattinson, Wright, Serkis, Dano, Kravits, and Turturo. The film influences are being worn on its sleeve from Chinatown, Se7en, and Taxi Driver and not to mention the comic influences from Year One, Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Ego, Zero Year, Earth One, and some sprinkled Lee Barmejo, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo winks. Plus some Telltale, Arkham, and The Animated series love is in this. Yup, If you couldn’t tell by now I absolutely love this film so I’ll stop. Also forgot to mention the Adam west love lol. Best comic movie ever made. The panels are great, the villain is creepy and the action is breathtaking. The soundtrack is a great mix of the most famous Batman soundtracks ever made with an own touch. I'm very eager to watch the sequel.

It has awesome cinematography, some scenes are very dark yet way of capturing the emotion is just fabulous. Some of the action sequences combined with brilliance of cinematography make those pieces of real art and perfection. The movie unveils the layered character of the batman. Without going into setting up the story of origin of batman(Nolan's trilogy did that) it successfully takes us into the psyche of our character, how he would have fought the 'fear' he once witnessed.

The villain, the riddler also deserves due respect as he literally tears apart the city and the way in which it is portrayed has great relevance to the real world of ours as we all know the "the so called savers are real looters in real life". It shows how the the people endowed with duty can become greedy to the core and can do anything for their selfish needs. The best and widely acclaimed success of the administration / government can actually be a big lie. I personally liked Paul Dano's work , as he has shown some real piece of acting. Its mind boggling to see such a cute face can be such a sinful, merciless, hell of a maniac killer. At the same time he is also successful as a cult.

The cat woman although small appearance but is well portrayed.

In all, the movie is by far the best from DCEU for me. I watch both Marvel and DC, But i can say that this movie is greater than all three spider-man (the current Tom Holland's)if not than avengers endgame. Actually it is bigger than many of individualistic marvel movies. And also bigger than Justice League/ Batman vs Superman etc in terms of strength of character and revealing the psyche of the character. I'm vengeance, I'm the night and I'm Batman.
The movie has shown that Batman is more than just vengeance.
Love it , Robert Pattinson has done justice to the young, novice stage of The Batman.… Expand

What a movie. I will admit, as a fan of Batfleck, and specifically of Snyders vision over the last few Batman/DCEU Movies, I was not wanting to like Pattinson or this movie. However, after watching this, I have to say that it is one of theWhat a movie. However, after watching this, I have to say that it is one of the better portrayals of the character overall. I feel that, for the first time since Batman vs Superman, the villains truly feared Batman. It was, and is very dark, much like the Joker movie from a few years back. However, I think this is necessary for a character as broken as The Batman.

Without going into spoilers, I felt the dark tones were very in line with Snyder, and the character was very closely related to how Bale portrayed Batman in his trilogy of movies. So, overall, a great mix. Though an almost 3 hour movie, it felt like the movie went by quickly, so it was extremely interesting (this coming from someone who regularly has to take breaks when watching movies at home). 9/10… Expand

‘The Batman’ does most if not all of the above, and goes in a different, albeit more crude direction, and this iteration of Batman movie as a whole,has a very believable homemade feel to all the props, cars, motorcycles and gadgets and it works for this movie. Even the camerawork feels crude, but I'm sure all the shots were meticulously planned and framed because there are some very iconic keyframes in the movie and it did not happen by accident or serendipitously.… Expand

The acting from the heavy majority of the cast is great, especially Pattinson when he's donning the cowl (less so as Bruce Wayne, where he comes off as kinda creepy), Kravitz, Paul Dano, and an unrecognizable Colin Ferrell. The riddles laid by The Riddler are both clever and digestible, the atmosphere around Gotham is very well-done, and the action choreography is fantastic. While it treads some similar ground to other Batman films before it, two things it does exceptionally well are making Batman do actual detective work and giving him a real character arc, something no Batman movie has really done before this one. Finally, in spite of the film's bloated runtime, it's paced really well and the pressure/intensity built up through the direction and score is great as well. While it could've been potentially streamlined a bit, The Batman should satisfy most comic book movie fans, as well as most movie fans so long as you're willing to enjoy the film through its 3 hour runtime.… Expand

This movie masterfully tells its stories and carried key themes throughout. By the end, I was in awe of how every single (and I do mean every single) storyline served core themes of the film. Vengeance and justice, despair and hope, mental illness and trauma, recognition and healing. By the end, the setting, the history, the characters, and the featured Riddler case all collide perfectly to deliver on the core themes woven throughout the story.

Zoe Kravitz was a huge standout for me -- I have never seen her in anything and I actually worried about the Catwoman romance subplot, but she delivered. Her acting was phenomenal and she paired perfectly with Pattinson to showcase these damaged characters that were trying to hard to find some healing.

I am a huge Batman fan and this is my favorite Batman film. It really felt like it told a full story of Batman. The trauma, the darkness, the vengeance, the light... You got a perfect but subtle view of how Batman is a slave to his trauma, his vengeance, and his need to heal, and they showed a real progression and arc of how he came to understand the need for hope. And I really hope there are more Batman movies with this crew.… Expand

The negative reviews really show you how Marvel/Disney has completely screwed up people's attention spans. The movie is long, but it's pretty good. There are some really nice moments and shots in there. It's definitely not perfect, but people saying it's "SOOOO BORING"... maybe for them, but I kinda liked how slow paced it was at times. It leans more into the detective side of Batman rather than just explosive set pieces all the time with just non-stop action. However, it does have that action... it's just not the sole focus of the film. The slow moments in the beginning and world building actually help build up tension for when all that action finally breaks out which makes it more satisfying overall.

Part of the problem I have with so many Superhero flicks is that eventually I experience diminishing returns and even though there is a LOT going on on screen, it bores me. Non-stop action leaves me desensitized and becomes meaningless/boring. This movie actually balances the slow moments with the action-packed moments rather well and I appreciate that since a lot of movies don't seem to be interested in doing that nowadays. Again, it's not a masterpiece, but it is a welcome sight for me to see some superhero flicks kinda try to mesh with other genres instead of just being "ACTION! ACTION! ACTION!". This movie definitely has some Detective Noir influences which has ALWAYS been a core inspiration for Batman as a character, but has been largely ignored in movie adaptations of Batman. Idk... it's nice actually seeing the detective side on the big screen to a character with the nickname "World's Greatest Detective".

I can definitely say that this is better than Batman vs. Superman and Gotham for me. Those were... uhhh... not good in my humble opinion. I am not sure if I like it more than the Nolan series. I would say it's better than Dark Knight Rises, but I don't how it would compare to Dark Knight and Batman Begins for me. I would probably have to see it a few more times.

Anyway tangent over... it's good, but it definitely can be a slow burn at times. Slow burns doesn't mean "BAD BORING MOVIE" as so many reactionaries on this site seem to think... it just means it's for a different type of audience than the normal superhero "thrill a minute" blockbuster crowd.… Expand

Great Batman movie. DC is a thousand times better than Marvel. Thanks for making adult superhero films. This movie is pretty dark with a serious dark tone to it. Just like 2019’s Joker, The Batman is a standalone movie featuring Robert Pattinson as the the character and not part of DC Extended Universe. This is the first solo Batman movie after 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises which is part of The Dark Knight Trilogy. Currently, this movie is the first instalment of the planned Batman trilogy by Matt Reeves, who is known for directing 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.

In his second year as a masked vigilante, Batman (Pattinson), he investigates the murder of Gotham City Mayor Don Mitchell Jr. on Halloween. The mayor was murdered by a mysterious serial killer called Riddler (Dano), who targets corrupt and powerful Gotham City figures. Apparently, he left a riddle behind for Batman. Soon after, Riddler kills Commissioner Pete Savage and left another riddle for him.

After solving the first two riddles, Batman and Lieutenant James Gordon finds a thumb drive in the late Mayor’s car. The thumb drive contains pictures of the mayor with a Russian woman at Iceberg Lounge which is operated by Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Don Carmine Falcone’s lieutenant. While Penguin deny knowing the Russian woman, Batman come across Selina Kyle (Kravitz), who is a roommate with that woman.

With Selina’s help, Batman learns that Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson along with the late police commissioner, are under the payroll of Don Falcone. Riddler strikes again when he abduct Colson later that night and use him to crash the mayor’s funeral the next day. He left another riddle for Batman while Colson was strapped with a timed collar bomb. Batman has to solve the mystery of the serial murders in Gotham City before Riddler kills more innocent people along the way.

If you are expecting to watch Batman’s parents died on the big screen again, you will be glad to hear that this does not happened at all. This one part will let you know that this movie is not gonna be another retelling of an origin story. This movie puts more focus on Batman’s detective skills than the previous movies where this skill was not put much to use. Using the Riddler as the main villain really does align in the movie for Batman to use his detective skills. As the movie used the mystery-solving angle, the movie will keep you engage with the story and you will not feel bored while watching. Speaking of bored, there is not a single scene in this movie is boring because the story of this movie is really well written and the pacing is very good which nothing is out of place. With a well written story and good pacing, you will feel that movie is like a two and half hour movie instead of near three hour movie. Kudos to Matt Reeves for a very well done job in directing this movie. His direction of this movie can rival towards Christopher Nolan’s direction of his Batman movies.

Robert Pattinson’s performance is really great. Not only his Batman is intimidating like his predecessors, his version of Batman spend more screen time as the Caped Crusader than his actual identity as Bruce Wayne. His character developement is done well from his journey as from a vigilante to being a symbol of hope which I believe will carry on into the next instalments. I’m sure his predecessors is proud of him. Paul Dano not only does a great job in playing The Riddler but portraying the character as a Zodiac Killer-style serial killer is really an interesting choice and one great way to introduce this villain into a modern day comic books cinematic. Zoë Kravitz along with the other casts have really done an outstanding performance in the movie. I also liked her on-screen chemistry with Pattinson which I felt it so natural. I felt that this movie does a better Batman-Catwoman relationship than the previous movies.

There are not many bad things about this movie. The only bad thing about this movie is Andy Serkis, who played the role of Alfred Pennyworth, have very little scenes compared to his predecessors. Because of less scenes in the movie, Batman and Alfred’s relationship was not explored well. Hopefully, it does better in the next movies.

As I have mentioned earlier, this is a standalone Batman movie with no connection to DC Extended Universe which means you do not have to watch any previous instalments. While the movie is unconnected, there is no doubt that this movie is a masterpiece and worth rewatching. Last but not least, there is no post-credits scenes.… Expand

The Batman is no doubt one of my favourite superheroes. After the slightly disappointing utilization of Batman in the DCEU, we get another interpretation of Batman from director Matt Reeves. The biggest thing I appreciate about this film is that IT IS a fresh and new take on Batman. One of the iconic titles of Batman is that he is the "World's greatest detective" but we never see that get explored in any of the previous Batman movies. Matt Reeves focuses on this aspect of Batman throughout with him using his smarts to solve the mystery. Instead of this being the generic superhero movie, it instead feels more like a detective, noir, thriller and I love that. The story itself is very engaging and I love watching Batman try to unravel the mystery. It is also a very grounded and more realistic take on the character. It never feels like Batman is superhuman or using gadgets that are too futuristic. For example, the Batmobile is not a super over the top military tank-like in The Dark Knight trilogy or the DCEU. It's just a muscle car with a giant engine and it is still awesome nonetheless. It helps bring you into the world and also really makes the audience feel like Batman could get hurt in these fights.

The cinematography in The Batman is gorgeous. There are so many shots in this film that make the city of Gotham feel alive. It is the best looking Batman movie so far. On that note, I love the interpretation of Gotham in this film. It is dark and grim which illustrates how much of a hell hole Gotham is. Despite that, the city still feels alive at times and there are moments where Gotham can still look beautiful which shows worth in Batman protecting Gotham. The music is scored by Michael Giacchino and it is phenomenal. The music score he made elevates every scene and fits the story being told. He also made a new theme for Batman and it might become one of the most iconic Batman theme songs because it is THAT GOOD! There isn't a lot of action sequences in this film but when there are, it is pretty good. They're not going to blow you away like the Batman v Superman (2016) warehouse sequence but they are still fun nonetheless. Although, there is a very awesome car chase sequence and it might be one of the best I've seen in a Batman film ever.

Robert Pattinson is awesome as the titular character Batman. The way Robert moves and the way he talks as Batman is just a sight to behold. He actually makes me believe that criminals would be scared of him. I also love that his Batman is flawed and makes mistakes. I also appreciate that he does go through character development with him learning a massive lesson by the end. Colin Farrell is also great as the Penguin. Props to the makeup artist as he looks unrecognizable as the character. Praise must also be given to Colin himself as the way he speaks just works for the character and it doesn't sound like how he does in any previous movies. Additionally, Paul Dano as Riddler is exceptional casting. The Riddler as a character is incredibly goofy but Paul Dano manages to make him feel genuinely creepy and smart. The Riddler feels like a worthy adversary to Batman in this film. The rest of the cast also do a great job. Andy Serkis isn't in the film much as Alfred but I love this more fatherly take on him. Jeffrey Wright gives a more buddy cop take as Gordon with his friendship with Batman being a highlight in the film. Zoë Kravitz gives a more emotional take as Selina. John Turturro makes Carmine Falcone feel dangerous. However, I was a little disappointed by how "Bruce Wayne" was in the film. What makes Batman great is that Bruce Wayne is a different persona from Batman. Bruce Wayne acts like a playboy and party-goer while Batman is the broody vigilante. Unfortunately, there is no difference between Bruce and Batman in this film. Batman is broody and so is Bruce Wayne which is a shame as I think this is a great aspect of the character. I get why they went in this direction as in the film Bruce only wants to be Batman. Still, I would've liked to see Robert give two different performances for these personas instead of just one broody performance. I also have an issue with the relationship between the two characters which feels very unearned and sudden. Not going to spoil it but you can probably guess who. Overall, this is the best Batman movie since The Dark Knight (2008). Matt Reeves delivers a terrific Batman movie. It is a gripping detective thriller that is no doubt one of the most gorgeous superhero movies to date. Furthermore, a stellar cast that all give remarkable performances, an amazing music score by Michael Giacchino and enjoyable action sequences. The Batman is still one of the best to be done in live-action and I am glad to see that there are directors who can still give us something new with Batman. Can't wait for the future of this Batman franchise!… Expand

This is the definitive and most accurate comic book Batman experience we've ever had and the best onscreen Batman to have ever come out.
