    Sea of Thieves is the most boring game I have ever played. The amount of content in this game is akin to a free-to-play tech demo. The game is entirely bare-bones. Customization is boring, and irrelevant in essence. Solo play is impossibly boring. It is fun for about 20 minutes, adding 3 friends doesn't change that in the slightest.     I understand why Microsoft has made this game on Gamepass. This sea has no depth at all. It's a sad excuse of a game, and anyone like me that had the hopes of it reviving the name of Rare Games, can give it up. Not only the game has no campaign mode, it has only one mode. Too few items too few choices and a single map. If it wasn't for free on Gamepass, it would surely flop even harder,I understand why Microsoft has made this game on Gamepass. This sea has no depth at all. It's a sad excuse of a game, and anyone like me that had the hopes of it reviving the name of Rare Games, can give it up.     Cara, joguei a beta e senti falta de conteúdo, o jogo final é a mesma coisa...
    A única graça é a batalha de navios, todo o resto é a mesma coisa seja, conteúdo 0 como minha nota.

    Fiquem a vontade pra flopar esse jogo, e boa sorte pra quem pagou R$200,00 por isso.
    Já até me arrependi de gastar R$29,00 no gamepass.

    Mais um "joguinho do mês" mediocre. Em 2 horas de gameplay você já fez de tudo oq o jogo oferece. Monótono, fraco, apenas cosmeticos pra desbloquear. Pensamos que esse jogo seria a Redenção, mas é apenas mais uma vergonha pra RARE e Microsoft.

    Use os 14 dias gratuitos da Game Pass pra testar o jogo, porque definitivamente não vale sua compra. O jogo lembra uma beta, com tão pouco conteúdo presente. O end-game? Destravar cosmeticos pro seu pirata. Senso de progressão? Nenhum. Sinceramente, nem perca seu tempo.

    Game is outrageously boring after you have done everything once. It is rinse repeat and that is it. Definitely not worth $60. Overrated game that will die out in a week because there is literally nothing to do.

    M$ não aprende, chega de jogos sem vida, visando somente em multiplayer e serviço, gracas a Deus temos a Sony pra trazer bons single player, boa história, me fala no que te poderia acrescentar um jogo com esse SoT? NADA!     Jogo extremamente chato e enjoativo. Como sempre a microsoft está cagando em todos os jogos. No jogo vc caça baús, bananas e mata caveiras. Parece uma brincadeira de mal gosto, parece mais um run simulator. Não recomendo a ninguém, jogo sem graça e enjoativo, só tem um mundo, sempre a mesma coisa, sem história e monótono.

    Проходная гриндилка сделаная спустя рукава. Если вы удумали играть в нее то проходите мимо.3 квеста повторяющихся всю игру. Ни какого смысла и интереса которых проходить нет.

    Very repetitive game, and with a very high price, I did not like it. It seemed to be cooler before, but it has not changed much from the beta as well, plus the PC version is giving a lot of trouble.

    I literally made a metacritic account just to warn you all that this game is an insult to us all. I feel duped for spending $60 on a game that's no where near complete. As a community we can't just keep buying incomplete games and cross our fingers for future DLC to get the game we wanted/expected. Play on the Xbox pass at the very most.

It is a boring experience that calls itself a "Pirate" game which has an awful sword fighting engine, and a mere 3 weapons, (pistol, blunderbuss, sniper) and even worse only 2 types of ships (galleon, skoon). Now I generally enjoy playing games alone and obviously thats almost impossible in this game. And evenSea of Thieves is a great example of what NOT to do with a video game in 2018! It is a boring experience that calls itself a "Pirate" game which has an awful sword fighting engine, and a mere 3 weapons, (pistol, blunderbuss, sniper) and even worse only 2 types of ships (galleon, skoon). Now I generally enjoy playing games alone and obviously thats almost impossible in this game. And even though it is possible it lacks any type of fun whatsoever. Theres basically 2 mission types, fetch and deliver, or find an island, fight waves of the exact same skeleton until a Commander appears, then kill him and bring his skull back to the merchant. There is no XP system, no upgraded weapons or even mods. And the only progression whatsoever comes in the form of different skins for all your items, weapons, clothes and boats. You can't even create your own pirate. You just choose from randomly generated ones which took me nearly 30 monutes to find one that didnt look stupid. Then i decided to try to get into it and play online with others including one friend and even then it just wasnt any fun. We spent nearly an hour trying to get to an island on the map to pick up and make a delivery and sunk our own ship time after time. Once in a storm, and another I honestly dont know what happened, i wasnt even on the ship, got the chicken and omw back my friend said the ship is sinking. I realized then that all the time to get there was wasted and had to start over. I turned the game off. Came back online later that night for one more try and this time i went and lolled skeletons until i got the skull i needed and on my way back to the order of souls another ship of players came and i completely meant to mind my own and they attacked. I actually killed two of them and then my friend was killed and our ship was sinking which then cancelled the quest again. It was truly the biggest waste of about 10 hours i have put into a game in my life and because of the sheer lack of content. No xp system or any better weapons, (cosmetics DO NOT COUNT!) And the fact that its the worst game I have nearly ever played, i dont even feel its worth the 10 dollars for a month on xbox game pasd and therefore i must give it a 0 because on my opinion its a game that IS NOT WORTH PLAYING and i had to make my first metacritic account just to write this review because that's just how bad this game is and to get people to save their money! Even if rare puts tons of content in this game in 2 years tome it isnt fair to the people that pay 60 dollars on day one. They suffer having to wait and we as gamers need games like this to fail so that developers DO NOT CONTINUE THIS TREND OF RELEASING A GAME WITH PROMISES OF CONTENT LATER. Because then one day an incredible game concept will. Ome out, sell hundreds of thousands of copies and then the developer pulls the plug and reaps the rewards of their false promises. This must stop now. Sea of Thieves is exactly that. A Sea of thieving game producers and developers who are getting paid now while making the game later. If that was truly the case go to kickstarter where tons of amazing games have gotten the funding they need to release several fantastic games. I am cancelling my xbox game pass immediately following this review so that i save myself 10 dollars because i pretty much own all the good games on it and this game isnt worth it for free.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing visuals and an tmosphere that is perfect for the subject matter, but that is all this game has. Underneath this shiny coat of paint is nothing. The world itself looks fantastic, but nothing about it feels fleshed out. There's no story, no real progression, it like Minecraft in terms of making your own story, but the options become limited after just a few hours. Beyond that, you can get treasure, which becomes very repeated after a while andd you can experience the game's absolutely terrible combat system. This is what ruined the game for me. Me and my crew spent a long time fighting on a skull island, using our resources in what we hoped would be for a good payoff. Then some tryhards showed up and completely destroyed us because we had little to fight back with after 45 minutes of shooting skeletons. So we lost all of that progress and I lost all will to continue. It made me realize that this game does not give me any reason to keep playing. It is entirely wasted potential. It can be fun for a little while and it was, but once the feeling of emptiness creeps in, there's no stopping it. The terrible combat combined with griefers will only make that happen faster… Expand

    The water may not be shallow but the game is; it's boring & repetitive. It was hardly worth the free trial of Xbox Game Pass. So much potential, I just wish an awesome developer or a huge billion dollar corporation was behind this game... oh... wait......

    Would prefer to pay someone (and I am being very serious about this) £20 to **** in a bag and give me it rather than spend £50 on this and have it forever. 0/10

    If you thought Zelda breath of the wild lacked content, then that game has about a million times the content, enemies and story like than Sea of thieves. Literally terrible game    … Expand

    Sea of Thieves is The worst game this generation the game mechanics are clumsy, playing solo is nightmare. If you play the Alpha or the Beta is the same boring thing. If this is the best of Microsoft this year I will be switching to Playstation. Do yourself a favor and avoid this horrible game.

I’m trading it in after only one day because it’s really not fun at all! The good news is that I’ll get 35$ back for it, so for 5$, I got to experience what hype is all about, and it sucked.     I went to buy this game of cdkeys for £43 for the digital copy when a friend told me it was on xbox game pass (£7.99 a month). I was quite suprised a game at £43 was on xbox game pass as the most expensive game on game pass will go for about £15. That should have been my first warning, I installed the game and jumped straight having not played the beta. I was amazed that there is noI went to buy this game of cdkeys for £43 for the digital copy when a friend told me it was on xbox game pass (£7.99 a month). That should have been my first warning, I installed the game and jumped straight having not played the beta. I was amazed that there is no tutorial whatsoever. After a couple of hours I had mastered the controls which are just so awkward its unreal and decided to start my first mission, it took about 30 minutes to complete it ( capturing 2 white chickens) that I was amazed my next mission was again to capture this time 1 red chicken. In reality there are only 3 types of mission

    1. Kill a skeleton and take the skull to the outpost
    2. Find a buried chest and take the chest to the outpost
    3. Capture a chicken/s and take them back to outpost

    Seeing a trend here!

    I did too that is sea of thieves in a nutshell.

    Never has there been a more apt game name than this as all the developers are after is your money    … Expand

    I’m sorry but there is literally nothing to do in this game but sail in a small map, visit the same islands and possibly fight ships which are ungratifying and offer no risk and no reward the gameplay is boring, the loop is boring and even tho the graphics are good, it counts for nothing when it’s empty it’s a game not a picture.

    Sea of Emptiness is the prime example of a polished turd. It's just as much of a disappointment as No Mans Sky was on launch day.

    Cons:
    -There is no character creation, just a randomized roulette wheel.
    -There is no lore or story.
    -NPCs are boring and say nothing that's of any interest.
    -The games three factions offer only simple fetch quests with no reward except gold.
    -The only progression is ranking up in one of three factions, doing so will reward you in fetch quests with more steps which might give you a little more gold than starting quests.
    -Gold is mainly used to purchase cosmetics.
    -Cosmetics offer nothing except a change in appearance. And because there is nothing but cosmetics a person that has played the game for 1 minute is no different than a person that's played it for 300 hours.
    -The only enemy you have excluding other players are skeletons (snakes don't count as you can just walk around them) that offer as much challenge as Minecraft PvE. Walk backward and shoot,
    -Enemies drop nothing and seem to only get in your way.
    - PvP is a thing but since there is no reward for killing other players there's no point. No k/d, no score, nothing.
    -Islands are practically empty. No environmental hazards of any kind.
    -When sailing the only hazards you have are a storm that you can easily avoid.
    -A shark spawns to discourage you from being in the water too long. It's a game that's 90% water, why?
    -There are no penalties for anything. You can die all you want, lose your ship, kill other players and nothing bad will happen.
    -Crews are limited to 4 people. This can be an issue when using the galleon which requires a minimum of 6.

    Pros:
    -It looks nice.

    To ask a person to pay $60 (a price which no game should ever be worth and we should never have been okay with) for basically nothing is insulting to say the very least. It's degrading, derogatory, disrespectful, offensive, repulsive, and rude.

    I already know how this is going to work because I've seen these scum sucking tactics before. They release this empty game and then over the years add the rest of it piece by piece, only they've wrapped it up as extra content, and then charge people $20 or $30.    … Expand

    I wont lie, graphically Sea of Thieves is amazing. It has some of the best sky boxes and water physics I have probably ever seen. Its co-op is great and really rewards the player for good teamwork but it all ends there. There is little to no progression system, most of us know this already but having no progression is a mistake. It basically just turns it into a massive grind fest, with the player trying to get to Legendary Pirate status which is basically impossible without having to grind out hundreds of hours for pretty much no reason.

    The bottom line is, Sea of Thieves is unfinished but it has amazing potential and in years time it will probably be an excellent title. However in its current state it isnt worth your $60 investment. You're better off getting an XBOX gamepass and trying it out before you make the decision to buy, because to be honest right now, RARE doesn't deserve your money...    … Expand

    Fun game play at first in beta but after few days doesn't feel like there's anything new to do. Called Microsoft and they gave me FULL REFUND for the game as long as haven't requested any refunds in last 6 months. If not good game should call Microsoft and get refund and let developer know games has lack of content.

Don't get me wrong, the first few hours are fun, mainly if you play with friends. Just fooling around and everything is new. But after a little while, you realize, this is it, there isn't anything more in this game.

    As game developer I can't help but notice the lack of effort that went into this game. This is what made me come to the conclusion of scam. If you were to make an asset-list from all items, objects and things in the game. and compare this to other similarly priced games. You would start to understand what I mean. This game has about 10% of the effort put into it compared to your average $60 experience ($85 if you buy this in Europe)

    There are no cheap cosmetics, a getting hat will take you 5 hours of play (if you don't fool around) and changing your ship color or sail at least two full days of play. (and since barely anyone paints their ship, it's hard to tell them apart) This grind is there for two reasons: To keep you playing for longer, since there is not much else to play towards, and to sell future micro-transactions.

    One thing that personally stuck out to me as a sore thumb is the music. I love the concept that they made. There is no soundtrack, but you get two instruments, to play your own music with friends. It's really fun to make your own pirate song. But this hole thing turns into a pain when you realize there is only 4 songs, and not even the most known shanties. (maybe a few more you can discover, but haven't found any of them) After a while this will get to your nerves as they become very repetitive after hours of play. It is just a detail, but it shows the enormous lack of effort that went into this game. With this concept they could easily have made 30+ shanties or more varying instruments like a flute, a drum or a guitar.

    My recommendation: don't, DO NOT, buy this game at full price. But surely check it out with the xbox game-pass. It's worth experiencing, but not worth wasting money on. This game is another example of sickness that is spreading in the Industry.    … Expand

    Problems:
    Sluggish combat system, trying to switch weapons too fast will make it so that you don't actually switch weapons, and therefor not switch unless you spam the button so that way you switch when you actually can.

    Not much to do honestly, the quests are enjoyable, but there needs to be a wider range.

    The spawning system is atrocious. The skull island raid is great, but the pvp there is nonsense considering if you win and sink a ship, they are back there in 2 seconds because they spawn at the closest outpost. This game was made by millennials for millennials, so even if you lose, you get to retry retry retry retry retry retry retry retry retry until one crew gets sick of it and leaves. Honestly, if you lose the least that should happen, is you spawn on the other side of the map, what I would like more, is for you to switch servers so that you cannot come back. This would force the community to get better at ship combat by making them actually repair their ships, or do drive by's... not hey lets anchor and everyone on cannons and blasting and hope they sink before we do, then repair when they are gone.

    So the lack of content pushes everyone to do the ONLY skull island out, and you get a never-ending battle where skull island takes 1-4 hours to do. Also, where is the damn variety in monsters, its just skeletons over and over and over.... god put some ai pirates and stuff like that driving around with rewards for killing them... something... anything... PLEASE!

    So there being only 1 skull island, and galleys on the server that can just keep coming back, a solo/duo on a sloot that want to challenge themselves to do it, can't... period... infinite spawn of galleys won't allow you to.

    Changes that should be made: Faster combat system, more weapon variants, maybe a 2 hander that has longer range and deals more damage but is slower, a sword AND shield where you can block bullets. A better scoped sniper rifle, maybe even a different type of rifle and submachine gun. Add 1 more weapon slot so that we have a little more ammo, and more capability in combat. Add ammo slot upgrades that gives you 1-5 more bullets. When a ship is sunk, that crew needs to spawn on the furthest outpost away that has no one at it, not the freaking closest one. And honestly, Galleys should be on their own server, and sloots on theirs. I've seen too many galleys only go after sloots, and completely ignore other galleys because the crew is pathetic. Also, how's about when you finally get the kraken and defeat it... how about some kind of freaking reward... how do you guys reward people for losing with 800 chances... yet a crew that wins vs a kraken you give nothing too. Who is making decisions for this game? They need to be fired, and allow someone else to take the helm.

    Also, how is this a $60 title? Can anyone come up with a legitimate answer other than these guys just wanted to make a quick pirates plunder and then hope everyone doesn't care? This game is probably worth $20, but definitely not worth more than $30.

    I've talked to many of my friends about how much I was anticipating this game, then after playing it for a few days they asked about it, and I told them straight up, not worth it, because it isn't. When a ton more content is added for us to go do, and they figure out and add the things that i've put in here, I'll change my opinion, and tell people to get the game, but as of right now this looks like a cash crab with 0 passion, because they would have realized that there wasn't much to do in the game.

It was harder to steal a chocolate bar as a little kid, than it was to get loot from the skull island, which literally just has the same skeletons over and over and over again.

    There's only 2 melee animations in the ENTIRE sword fighting "pirate" game. I wish I was exaggerating. I am not. Forget about having a decent ship to ship battle because of the wonky controls and the extremely, and I really mean EXTREMELY limited arsenal. If you've done it once, you've done all there is to do with that. I don't even know what the point of looting is, because literally everything you can buy in the game is cosmetic only. Once you got all the gun types (which you could probably get in under 20 minutes) it doesn't help you do any better at anything. So why even bother? Don't let me start with the overpriced sail paintjobs. They don't make your boat any faster. There is nothing to do, and there is no reason to do anything once you played the first time. There is only TWO kinds of ships in a PIRATE game! WHY? At least put a ****ing row boat in the game we're not all that picky! You can't even fish or sell sharks and whales for money like in AC4. You can't even rob merchant ships because they do not exist in this game. How did Ubisoft make a better pirate game with actual looting, when the pirating was just a small part of the story? They really **** the bed with this game I'm sorry to say.

    But yeah sure, give Rare a pass because apparently all we need to sell a full priced game and get a decent review, is a "GOOD FOUNDATION!"

Servers randomly kick you off for "not being active" even while you are sailing from far island to far island. After the 3/27/2018 patch the game requires to be reinstalled each time you what to play.

    Update: Now after patch game wont start at all.

    Visually this game should get a 7 out of 10.

It will go free to play before long if it wants to be have a chance. Even PvP is lacking (and they respawn you at your ship in the same location so you can be camped) which is sad for a pirate game.

    This game is a fantastic concept with horrible execution, absent support staff, and disgusting player base. There is no fun to be had with this game; only anger and frustration. Leave this game to the twitch idiots and the vile creeps that comprise the players and spend your time and money ANYWHERE else.

    This game is fully dependent on having gaming friends who have the exact same day schedule as you and the same device. The game has no extra settings to make it easier or harder depending on the size of your crew, and it does not work very well on PC if trying to join an xbox friend.     We have nothing but respect for Rare's vision with Sea of Thieves, but it is a game as likely to chew you up and spit you out, as it is to embrace you. If the wind is in your favour then it can be a delight, but a storm is never far off if you lose momentum. The real test of the quality and efficacy of Rare's plan will be in how it manages to evolve and grow in the weeks and months to come. [Issue#199, p.67]
