while not as historically important as halo combat evolved the fact remains that halo 3 is one of the best fps games of all time. the single player is admitatly short its the best of the series so far. and the multiplayer is the best on 360. halo 3 can stand side by side with the best fps of this and any generation long live halo 3

Halo 3's didn't end the story line in a very satisfing way but the multiplayer, forge, and above all the theater option is amazing. They deserve props for that.

Co op online is great going throught the missionsn with up to 3 other players online, not to mention some of the achievements available on the campaign mode, adding for more replay value. Multiplayer is where halo 3 shines, and quite frankly anyone who feels that the game doesnt have a great online system is an idiot, I could go all 'Pro' and moan about battle rifle changes, but tbh no one excpet the competetive folks rly care about that. But the whole experience of online play is sesnsational, the matchmaking system works well normally finding games quickly, depending on amount of playres in the playlist and skill levels available. Antway I digress, Halo 3 = Great game, minor faults, Alot of people here are just giving it low to make it look bad, it is a 7 at worst, bt tbh i cnt see how it isnt at least an 8, i'll give it 9 coz of theatre and forge modes tho , anyone giving it lower than about a 7 has some sort of bias up their sleeve, maybe bungie called them names...who knows. Okay to all of those who are giving this game a scor of 0, fans of this game are not all a bunch of "retards without any brains" as one of you so eloquently stated. Remember the emphasis of this triology is NOT the storyline, if you want a storyline in an fps, go play one of the rpg-fps hybrids like Bioshock or Mass Effect. The best thing about halo 3 and the entire halo trilogy is the multiplayer. The matchmaking system is definitively the BEST setup for any console ever made. The ranking system allows you to play competitively with people at your own progressing skill level, and joining games is always relatively quick and efficient. The mechanics of the multiplayer is also well done, all of the weapons are fairly well balanced, and excel in different unique situations. As a level 50 in 3 different playlists, im PRETTY SURE I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT( and yes it IS possible to do well without hacking, you just need some aim and some teamwork). The reduction in health from the previous two games allows for a heavier emphasis on teamwork and communication ( its is hard for 1 player to take down 3 others at the same time). My only complaint about this game is that whenever new maps are released, you need to purchase them online to be able to continue to play of all the playlists available on XBL, giving the game a certain "WoW-scam" feel. For those who slander Halo 3, and say Call of Duty 4 is a more mature and better game? That is complete rubbish! Apart from the single player of COD4, Halo pisses all over it with polished gameplay, the best mulitplayer on any shooter, and map maker capabilities. There is no way that Halo 3 could live up to the hype that it picked up in development. That said, it is still a very solid, decent game. The campaign was somewhat short but it definitely gave your the impression that you "finished the fight". In regards to the multiplayer aspect, just like Halo 1 & 2, people will be playing it for years to come.

Now, onto the review. This game is essential to anyone who owns an xbox 360. Hands down has set the bar for what a 360 game should be. Being a fan of the games since it was orginally released as Marathon for PC--Bungie has carried there FSP shooter series into the Next Generation. The engrossing campaign--with added hours of skull-hunting--and varying levels of difficulty make it worthy of purchase in itself...but then you have the LARGEST onlien community available for any next-gen console out there. This aspect just turns an already GOLD game--right into platinum. Endless hours of pwning people names Rolf S, (and getting an uber-amount of achievements for doing so) or other Noobs just makes for a truly epic experience. Where it lacks is the campaign is short. Only about a max of 10 hours on Heroic difficulty. But, the hours after you beat the campaign...especially if you have access to the internet...and even if you dont...are truly endless. That is, if you aren't a noob who gets pwned on a game-to-game basis. Expand

Best shooter ever? Probably not. However, it is the best I've played thus far on the Xbox or Xbox 360. BioShock and Gears of War both come VERY close, but I still had a lot more fun with Halo 3. The visuals are vastly improved from the previous games (which is to be expected on a newer console)... the lighting effects are stunning. The voice acting and musical score are top-notch. And the gameplay is what every Halo fan has grown to love. There are, however, a few flaws. The campaign is too short (which was my biggest gripe about Halo 2 as well). However, it wraps up the story arc and its a good warm-up for the awesome multiplayer. Some of the weapons tweaks are particularly annoying. The pistol's refresh rate is much too slow, and (my BIGGEST complaint) the needler is no longer a dual-wieldable weapon (AHHH!!), making these weapons almost unusable. The controls for the Scorpion tank also seems to be a bit less refined than in Halo 2. All in all, I can assure just about any fan of FPS games that they will get enjoyment out of this game, particularly the multiplayer. I don't think that there was any way this game could live up to the hype surrounding it, which is sort of sad, but it still stands above most of the rest on a console that is saturated with first person shooters. I got this game last night, and played it until class today at 1:00. The campaign is excellent, leaps and bounds ahead of H1 or H2. The new weapons are a great addition, and the assault rifle isn't worthless anymore. The hammer might just be my favorite weapon of any game I've ever played.

Also its glitchy, idk if its just my copy or what but the the final cutscene just died, and i never saw the credits it just got stuck on a single frame, now i gotta replay the final part to see the whole thing. There are also many bugs from killing things, often the enemies will just start to run into a wall and keep running thinking they're going somewhere. not often but it happened a few times to me, ill kill something or someone and their body will do that annoying twitch if it lands on an edge or another object. Usually im not picky about little bugs like this but Bungie prides themselves at completely polishing a game with no bugs and my grade for polishing it is a B-, not the A that halo was or B+ that halo 2 was. Graphically it is amazing at times but a lot of things are just bland and look exactly like they did in halo 2. The explosions are the best ive seen in any video game thou. Even though gamers were promised a truly epic tale that would be virtually impossible for any game to live up to, I think Halo 3 comes very close, not having bought into the hype and read anything about it before I bought it. Online play is excellent, game variants and maps, along with a constant supply of opponents keep it going for as long as you can.

Though amazing in so many ways, Halo 3 is not without its flaws. The campaign mode was well concieved and the game's story constantly left me in both suspense & wonder. The campaign, however, was far too short. This is the greatest flaw of Halo 3. Minor technical issues were noted here and there, and the marines AI definently has its problems. The marines seemed to do well in combat, but when operating vehicles, repeatedly running into tree's were quite common. All in all, Halo 3 is among my favorite titles of all time. It's difficult to read all these negative user reviews, because just like everybody hating president bush is the "cool thing" to do, bashing on Halo 3 is also. I've asked about a million people why they hate bush, and they can't give me an answer. I don't like bush, but I at least know why I don't like him. Same with Halo. They can't say why they hate it, except for reasons that they hear other people say. It's too bad so many people try so hard to fit in.

But, if you ignore that fact and treat it as a way of enjoying yourself rather than an epic 3D storybook, its incredibly fun to play. The multiplayer doesn't realy add anything new but, having said that, it's also incredibly fun to play. Over a year after first getting it, i'm still playing it, because it is such a great way to pass time with your mates, or people you meet online. What I like most about the game is that Bungie have finaly seen fit to add some new innovative features - such as film playback and Forge - which all work realy well. But, in normal circumstances, the few innovations and new things that Bungie have added wouldnt be enough to make a new game out of, and it is fairly clear that Bungie are using Halo's fandom and success to make more money out of the franchise, but they do it so well that we simply can't complain. SP was so good i bought h2 + 1 to play the whole thing. The less "insta-kill" style of play does not make for a less skillful game, but allows a more team based TDM setup. If on COD I run around w/o talking to my team it makes little difference but on halo it will ensure you fall behind (unless in FFA). The MP is awesome. The game types are varied and interesting and every weeked there is double exp WITH A NEW GAMETYPE. Incredibly fun, better to play with friends than any other FPS, satisfying. His second complaint was that the multiplayer was too similar to Halo 2's multiplayer, which is funny to me because one of the single largest complaints in the Bungie community is regarding how DIFFERENT Halo 3's multiplayer is from Halo 2's. Certainly, they are based on the same premises and rules. However, the subtleties and dynamics have been altered dramatically. He references the sudden appearance of powerups, which have actually be a Halo staple since Halo: CE, which, if you'll recall, is the very first Halo game. That right there should be reason enough to have his comment removed and his vote disqualified. He obviously has no idea what game he's playing. As for adding Forge to Halo 2, it's not quite that simple. And it astounds me he didn't mention the theater mode, which is a milemarker in game development. I've also seen no mention of the depth to which the game is integrated with Bungie.Net. The bottom line is that I'm still playing this game almost daily two years after its launch. So are almost 1 million other gamers. That very fact that proves the longevity and replayablility of this game warrants a 9, in my opinion. The game isn't perfect, but it does what it does very well. And it's significant to the industry in terms of development. Expand

Halo 3 is a sequel. If you were expecting a completely new game then you are lacking in intelligence. Halo 3 does exactly what you expect from a sequel, it improves upon the formula and adds new stuff. What makes Halo 3 so good is it's action. No other shooting game does it better in my opinion and I've been playing them for years. Bioshock, The Orange Box and COD4 are all Halo 3 is a sequel. Bioshock, The Orange Box and COD4 are all excellent games for different reasons but Halo 3 just nails the formula of guns, grenades and melee. The gameplay is action packed and the online play will get your adrenaline pumping like you wouldn't believe. There's nothing like scoring a triple kill and then getting all tense and excited as you desperately try to find that overkill in time, or making a comeback from 20 points behind to take the game by one point. The multiplayer is absolutely phenomenal, it is super exciting and at times even hilarious. However, It can be very frustrating and, at times, very unforgiving but that is no fault of the game, though it is easier to blame it. The campaign is Halo 3's weakest link, it is great and is fantastic in 4 player online co op (if you've got a good internet connection) but it is graphically disappointing. The cutscenes are quite ugly and the second to last level is just awful. The game keeps a solid framerate throughout though, so it is to be commended for that. The story is terrific and the game does a good job of finishing the trilogy, whilst leaving the door open for possible expansion. Also, the music and sound effects are outstanding, the attention to detail is astonishing. The two newest additions are the Forge and Theatre modes and I could go on for hours about how ridiculously awesome they are, they do an absolutely fantastic job of adding more value to this incredible package and make for a refreshing break from all the action. All in all, if you are looking for a social gaming experience, you cannot go wrong with Halo 3 as everything about it has more than one person in mind, if you are looking for an incredible, competetitive online mode then no other game does it better, but if you are looking for a deep and involving single player experience then you would be better off with something like BioShock. Buy this game! dont listen to these ppl who complain to the littlest things, becuase it didnt live up to there standards, those ppl dont even look at the greatest cause there too up in there own head to realize it. Halo 3 is a good and very popular game, in fact I think it actually suffers from the fact that its popular. Internet trolls who must masturbate to the opening credits to CoD4 or wipe their pimply fuggly faces of tears while playing Bioshock hate Halo because its an every-mans game for adults. The replay value is great, the story is interesting and the gameplay is simple. Internet trolls who must masturbate to the opening credits to CoD4 or wipe their pimply fuggly faces of tears while playing Bioshock hate Halo because its an every-mans game for adults. The replay value is great, the story is interesting and the gameplay is simple. By no means is it gods gift to man, but neither is CoD4. The only reason I can imagine why Halo gets so much crap is because Gamers are frightened that people who enjoy the company of women, drink occasionally and don't live in their parents basement can pick up and enjoy this game. Its a socially acceptable game where even 'frat dudes' can play it with out being considered nerdy. It is this social acceptance, which it seems many gamers never attain in their lives, that I can only attribute to its unpopularity with an internet community obsessed with anything non-halo as being SO much better then Halo, even though it still ranks up there with games like CoD4 in online play and popularity.
Halo isn't a perfect game and the whole game plays like the first Halo game, but that's the point. In a world where it seems there needs to be something jaw dropping and eye catching like 'perks', 'plasmids' or 'frame rate' Halo remembers what old fashioned video game fun is. Its not realistic, but when you win a duel with a well placed grenade on Live or beat a 10 foot ape alien to death with a pistol you feel good. that's a feeling that is hard to get with CoD4's easy camp levels, broken tru skill system and defective 'perks' (which are complained about by even the most hardened Call of Duty 4 fan. Note that I said Call of Duty 4, not Call of Duty, there is a significant difference between the two.) Now Halo does have issues but where as logically I would give CoD4 an 8 or 8.5 as a result of those issues Halo gets a 9 because its problems aren't nearly as game breaking. Halo's issues, with nearly worthless equipment and at times nerfed weapons and maps, are problems but you can still play the game without those things affecting your experience at all. You can get around those problems and still have a fun time unlike Call of Duty 4 where you can only tolerate its problems just so long before you want to throw the controller across the room.
In short Halo brings the fun, and lets you have all kinds of it, something most other games are hard pressed to do.

  1. It's the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs, legs that will probably keep you running at full speed until Bungie figures out where, exactly, to go from here.
  2. Halo 3 is the best Xbox 360 game to date. The single-player campaign and storyline are both very strong, but it's Forge and the Saved Films features that will likely go down in history as Bungie's crowning achievements. They've basically taken everything great about the series and improved upon it in every way, then added some amazing new features that we'll be using for years to come.
