This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game comes down to one word "garbage." I think Infinity Ward should give it time and launch games really well done. trying to share space with other companies in game releases and thus end up losing "too much" quality in these games, the main gameplay. Unfortunately I bought this game before knowing how it is, next time do not lose more time and money with a game of this size. Expand

The weapon sound effects are the same, rank up sounds same, kill streak menus the same and the main menu is also exactly the same as Modern Warfare 2. Graphics have barley had a tune up. Thing don't look better just more glossy. As if everything in the world of Call of Duty is colored with Candy paint. The Campaign was a let down as well, I expected an epic climax to the story instead i got lead down a straight path to at the end, push keys it told me to, and with such dated graphics it just looks so cheesy. Theres no variety to multiplayer either. Basically its every man for himself. Everyone run around like chickens with their heads cut off. In my opinion this game also takes no skill to play. The weapons significantly lack recoil making it very, very easy to aim and by aim i mean spray rounds everywhere because you wont be bumped off target. Not worth 60 dollars, hell not worth 20 dollars. I'm no fanboy, just a very disappointed gamer. Expand

Then I played the BF3 beta and found myself struggling to get into it. So when BF3 hit, I decided to rent it instead of buy it outright. I beat the campaign, it was decent. But again, I struggled to get into the multiplayer. It was well crafted, but just didn't gel with me. So I canceled my BF3 order and ordered COD MW3. And despite my earlier feelings of wanting something different, I found myself in love with the series all over again. The campaign is possibly my favorite so far. The multiplayer, while familiar, adds enough to make it feel exciting again (I especially love Kill Confirmed mode and the way points help unlock support packages...)! I've not spent much time with Spec Ops or Survival yet... but that just speaks to the wealth of content available in this title. There was much doubt that the "new" Infinity Ward could bring the quality that the founders were known for once they departed Activision. But the truth is, I find Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 to be a better game all around than Infinity Ward's last game, Modern Warfare 2. And since World at War and Black Ops turned out solid (in my book), between the new Infinity Ward and Treyarch, this franchise is in good hands. Yes, one could still argue that this series hasn't taken many risks this generation... but at the same time, they must be doing something right. I'm not the only one who keeps coming back for more, and having a great time in the process. Expand

Look at the sounds in multiplayer, WTF, each gun with a sliencer sounds almost same. M4A1 sounds like heavy machine gun. maps are so small, narrow, u just like a rat running in the street, it's full of crap and useless garbage. However, MW2's map are elaborately designed.

And why don't u build up dedicated server as u have made so much money.

In conclusion, this game is totally a fraud. I already go back to MW2. Take care.

The muliplayer is just plain frustrating, the spawning is automatic and forces the player into the game, sometimes placing the player right in front of the enemy, and the killsreaks and perks make the game enormously unbalanced. The only reason I am giving this game a 4/10 is because the campaign was magnificent and the Co-operative gameplay is addictive, but only for a few hours. I had rented this game for a month to try it out, I thought i might ask friends and family for it for Christmas because i wasn't willing to spend my own money for it, but now I don't think its worth their money either. For anyone that is going to buy it for the campaign, just watch the videos on youtube or rent it because $60 for a campaign isn't worth it. Now some people defend Call of Duty not having a new game engine because it is in a contract with Activision to release a game every year. That is completely absurd because if they don't realize it, the game switches developers every other year so two or three years is plenty of time to develop a better game engine, considering they say that the game engine has been updated, but is just isn't seen, I feel i am playing Call of Duty 4. Although I have tried CoD games in the past, this was the first one I was looking forward to playing. Since I didn't play MW2, my low rating isn't based on other players' complaints about rehashed content. My complaint is that the game is simply frustratingly unplayable in Multiplayer.

There seems to be no real reason why what happens on my screen, and what I see in people's kill cams are so different. Many times, I will spot a soldier first, put over half of my clip into him, then he will turn around and kill me. Then, when I watch his kill cam, it shows him firing on my before I have even turned to aim at him.

That is horribly unacceptable in a game that's been using the same engine for awhile now. This game should be water tight, but it is not. It is frustrating and I'm enraged that I wasted 60 USD on this.

A fire selector switch, large maps with a rush type mode, modes for more tactical game-play. These changes would have been easy to include and really don't push the envelope very far into the land of "fixing what ain't broke". This latest effort from Activision and Infinity Ward shows laziness and greed. They made a far inferior game (super-tight maps with ridiculously frenetic pacing / outdated HALO type game play / boring leveling system) and play it off like the best thing ever. We are suckers for buying this stuff. With the resources they had, they really could have moved the bar up...instead they just ignored the bar altogether...or maybe, the developers are still hanging out at the bar, I don't know. What about all the mods and cheats they allow...how is your game this hackable guys? Really poor effort, really poor. MW3 is a great game! As was MW2 before. And before that, MW1. There are some tweaks and changes, but basically it's the same game all over and over again. So unless you're into the short single player campaign, there's no reason to pick this one up if you own any of the previous in the series.

My roommate bought this game the day it came out. I was disgusted by how much Activision does not not care about the consumer, but instead is only focused on the money they can make with mw. The number one comment I heard from people coming into our room was, "Is there a new map pack for mw2, I havent played this map!" (copy+paste)+change enough to satisfy children = mw3

This game is not what I have expected. Modern Warfare 3 is just a copy and paste version of Modern Warfare 2, and it should be named as Modern Warfare 2.5 or Modern Warfare 2: Episode 2 with the graphics, gameplay, and innovation being the same. Moreover, it has ONLY a few minor improvements in this game, making MW3 only like a small update from MW2. Viva la Skyrim!

Despite a few new additions to the formula, this is generally the same game that we've been playing since Call of Duty 4. This in itself can be a good and a bad thing. It is bad because it's not really anything unique or different, but then again, it doesn't really need to be. Pokemon, Zelda, Mario, and sports games have been doing the same thing for years, and still put out fun and great titles. The same goes for Call of Duty; while not being anything original, it's still damn fun and addictive. Also, look at it a bit more realistically. It's obviously more financially reasonable for Infinity Ward to release an addition to the series that doesn't take much work to make. It may not seem "just" or "right," but it's smart. These are business executives, and they're all about the dollar, and hey, I'm not complaining too much, the games still amazingly fun. Sure there are still those frustrating moments when nothing is going right, you can't get a kill, and the game lags up on you and you get killed behind the corner, but these little shortcomings are far outweighed by the fantastic structure and addictive gameplay, and now with the addition of the strike packages, everyone can succeed. Support Packages are perfect for beginning players that need a bit of aid in their early efforts at becoming an expert. Assault Packages are the same awesome killstreaks from previous games, with some new editions, like the Assault Drone, Reaper, and Osprey Gunner. And last, my personal favorite, is the Specialist Package, which is for the expert players that can go on long steaks without dying. Getting the All Perks Bonus is one of the best feelings you can get when playing a game, given that you become a near invincible beast until you die. To me, most of the new maps are awesome, being headlined by Dome, Village, and Mission; however, maps like Bakaara, Seatown, and Fallen just strike me as uninspired, boring, and most of all frustrating. Last of all, the guns in the game are pretty great; however, I feel as if they added too many shotguns, where they should have focused a bit more on Submachine Guns, given that most of the maps seem more geared toward them. The PP90M1 and the Type 95 are beastly weapons that I never get tired of using. Unfortunately, sniping from Modern Warfare 3 has stayed with MW2 style rather than the more balanced and difficult Black Ops sniping. I wouldn't be surprised to see more and more people quick-scoping within the next few months. The final big addition to the game is how you can level up weapons. I think this was a marvelous addition to the game, and helped to improve your game with weapon proficiencies. Overall, the proficiencies were a nice addition, but I never found myself straying away from Kick, Range, or Attachments seeing that those were the most useful. Modern Warfare 3 is a great game, and will probably keep me and others playing for many months to come. Sure it's strikingly similar to previous titles, but as the saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Expand

This game, although it is pretty much a rehash of MW2, would be pretty fun except for a few things. The clan tag mods are way out of hand and should have been crushed a long time ago. I would rather see the often offensive player cards of BlackOps than this. There seems to be several other ways of cheating which I have seen videos of (i.e. 10th prestige on the second day after release). I can sort of deal with this things because they don't appear to be in every game. What I can't deal with is the lag compensation that this game uses. To be hit by one bullet and die, only to see you were showered in bullets on the kill cam is silly. Being behind cover on your screen and getting killed, only to see you hadn't made it to cover yet is ridiculous. BlackOps had this in it as well, but it was not so invasive. It was a little frustrating. In MW3, it seems to be running at full blast making for an incredibly frustrating game. Modern Warfare 3 is a great game that has some new things to offer that will keep you entertained for more time. The graphics are good, they may be no where near as good as Uncharted 3's or Arkham City's but still nice. The voicework and explosions are great as always and the playability has always been great. The plot for the campaign is not that great this time around as it has always been so I was dissapointed in the plot but the multiplayer is as fun as always and Spec Ops is even better with Survival mode so the whole thing is still fun to play. The flaws are that there is not much that makes MW3 different frm MW2 other than the campaign and Spec Ops and multiplayer additions and the campaign has some wears and tears that does not make it as interesting or as enjoyable as the plots of the other two games but this is minor compared to the rest of the package. Overall, Modern Warfare 3 is a great game that is worth playing, if you are new to the series you will love it but is you've played the other games you will be somewhat dissapointed at the lack of new content but you should still play the game though. MW3 is one of the great games in 2011 that should not be missed. I loved the arcade style fast gameplay which was quite different from other games I had played. World at War was released the following year, which I did not have high hopes for, considering it was made by a different developer. At first, I did not like it. I loved the campaign and Nazi Zombies, but not the multiplayer. However, after a fair bit of play time, I started to get into it, and by the time I had reached level 65, I loved it. The following year, I was very excited for Modern Warfare 2. I had been following it since the hour in which it was announced (no really, the hour). I went to the midnight launch, picked up the Prestige Edition and went home. I took the next day off and played it for 24 hours straight. I was absolutely in love with it. I also got this hyped about Black Ops, based on the recent history of my love affair with CoD. I once again went to the midnight launch, picking up the Prestige Edition. When I first started playing it, something was different. It just didn't feel like a CoD game. The only thing I liked about it was Zombies. I thought that the campaign was terrible, and no matter how much I played the multiplayer I could not get into it. After about a day of play time, I officially gave up on the multiplayer.

Earlier this year, Modern Warfare 3 was announced. Based on the disappointment of Black Ops, and the fact that due to layoffs, the multiplayer would be made by Raven Software, I did not have high hopes for this game at all. I did not bother with the midnight release, or even the Hardened Edition. In fact, this was the first CoD game since Call of Duty 4 that I did not buy on the release date. With the high number of friends playing this game, I decided to get it. I did not like the campaign, but Spec Ops was a lot of fun. When I first started playing the multiplayer, it didn't feel right. But it seemed that the more I played it, the more I started to enjoy it, even though I thought that CoD was dead when Black Ops was released. Well let me tell you something.

    CoD HAS BEEN REVIVED!!!!!!!

After extensively playing the multiplayer, I have once again fallen in love with CoD. The gameplay feels like a hybrid between Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, which I am really liking. The brand new strike packages are fantastic, and with the addition of the Specialist Strike Package, CoD is no longer all about killstreaks, like it was in Modern Warfare 2. There are a few overpowered guns, but since these are unlocked at early levels, the game is fairly balanced. The damage taken from explosives has been considerably reduced, which means you will see a lot less people running around with grenade launchers, like you did in Modern Warfare 2. Two new game modes have been added to Modern Warfare 3. These are Kill Confirmed and Team Defender. Kill Confirmed is similar to Team Deathmatch, but once an enemy is killed, they drop their dog tags, and the only way to score for your team is to collect those dog tags by walking into them. However, you can collect your fallen teammates dog tags to prevent an enemy from getting them. The other new mode, Team Defender, is once again similar to Team Deathmatch. It starts off with a flag in the middle of the map. Teams will start killing each other, just like in Team Deathmatch, but a kill is only worth 50 points instead of 100. The objective is for someone on your team to pick up the flag. While someone on your team has the flag, your team will gain 100 points per kill, making it easier to reach the score limit of 7500 points. However, if you have the flag, you will show up on the enemyâ

The only part of the game I enjoyed was the story line and that was only because it distracted me from the shocking multi player. In my opinion the multi player on mw3 is worse than any of it's predecessors. The first thing to note is the maps, which are either ridiculously small or way too big with about a million objects for people to camp or hide in. Then we have the shockingly over powered weapons... In black ops, u at least had a second to react if you came under fire, whereas in this u literally see the small red marker from the direction you have been shot from and then u find ur self dead... To add insult to injury they have also reduced the power of weapons like the grenade launcher and rockets so you can pretty much walk away from a direct hit. Oh and u also have sniper bullets that can kill 2-3 people with 1 shot one minute, then just bounce off when u hit someone directly in the chest the next. And just like everyone else has mentioned, I'm sure we all love respawning in front of the guy who just killed us so that we can get killed again... So overall if ur thinking of buying this game dont, and if you have, take it back as soon as you can before its only worth a tenner and Uve lost loads of cash and hours of life you'll never get back. It's like going to see thelatest Harry Potter or Twilight movie, same characters, same setting, same general direction and outcome, but I don't hear people complaining that those movies are all alike. Either a lot of people who make these points haven't bought the game, or have bought it thinking thye were going to get something totally new and unique (who would be that stupid, really? These are the same complaints people had with Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, you'd think people would have learned by now)

I love this game, I really do, sure I bought it out of peer pressure because all my Black Ops playing buddies were buying it, but I don't care, I'm having so much fun playing with them in the awesome multiplayer modes. A lot of people are dissing the gameplay and blaming it on an engine from 1999, sure they used a heavily modified engine from 1999 for their 2005 game Call of Duty 2, but since then it's went through many more iterations, Modern Warfare 2 used IW4.0 engine and this one is using IW 5.0, cleverly titled as MW3 Engine, so to say it runs an outdated engine from 1999 is the absolute height of ignorance, and frankly I'm just dissappointed in anyone who uses this as a critical point.

As for the single player, it does leave something to be desired, I found it to be fun, while a little controlling in direction and linearity this is sadly unavoidable as it needs to be like this to keep the fast paced feel of urgency going in the story, you never stop moving, your adrenaline is always pumping and there's never much time to rest, some poeple like that and some people don't, I enjoy it but It's not a huge selling point.

Another great game in another great franchise of games from one of the best publishers around, yes they're evil, yes Bobby Kotick is satan in a suit, but damn this is one hell of a fun game, and I will be playing it a lot over the next year.

The pit falls of the PC version though really trump could have been, the game doesn't even feel supported and seemed like the developers didn't care at all for PC gamers. To them we are all pirates and there is no $ in PC gaming. Which is funny, because I see that most games that are pirated first are console games.

-Again, the PC version feels very dated and the textures are HORRIBLE. It sucks they didn't spruce it up at all for PC seeing as many of the gamers to get it have way better systems then the 5-6 year old consoles.

    - CoD Elite. They touted it and touted it. Where is the PC version? Why is PC being shafted with a stripped down version. It's ****

    - Dedicated servers. We go them, yay! ... But, they are all uranked? What. The. **** Why in god's name would I ever play a non-ranked server? The game, like all games now is the reward. I like gaining XP and unlocking guns, levels and prestiges... but removing them from dedicated server? Stupid.

    - IWnet/P2P. This was the major complaint for MW2 and it returns in MW3. Having to play with someone who gets host and an advantage and deal with lag, and change of hosts and no way to deal with any cheaters is horrible and not fun. In a twitch shooter, every ms counts. If I'm lagging, I am going to be in a bid disadvantage. What was wrong with me being able to play on a dedicated server that was located near me and I wasn't lagging. IWNet/P2P, It's why I didn't put much more time in MW2. My first game after buying it was into a hacked lobby. Black Ops had optimization problems with dual cores, but man it played the best out of all the CoDs I've played so far. And we had RANKED DEDICATED SERVERS.

The single player was alright, but nothing memorable with it all. Same 'ol crap from the previous games.

Since Modern Warfare 2 was easily worthy of a 9 or 10, it follows that the successor earns about half of that. The inclusion of a new character withSince Modern Warfare 2 was easily worthy of a 9 or 10, it follows that the successor earns about half of that. The campaign's length has been cut to approximately half the length of the previous game, most of which is recycled and formulaic content, including the obligatory stealth sections that account for far too much time in an already short game. The inclusion of a new character with an interesting back story only highlights how the player is held hostage to the story. As with the No Russian mission of MW2, control is but an illusion. The player is given a gun during a flashback sequence and allowed the opportunity to attempt to change the existing canon - logically, of course, this sequence is impossible and subsequently pointless, burning more precious minutes of a painfully brief story. The amount of time the player controls their character versus the amount spent unable to control their character (through enforced actions, such as being tossed around by an explosion, vehicle rides or plot sections) means that calling the campaign 5 hours is perhaps being overly generous. Compare to other titles on the shelf, such as The Elder Scrolls V, Dark Souls or Deus Ex Human Revolution, and this is an unforgivable offence.
Spec Ops, the glorious co-op element of MW2, makes a return, although it is notably shorter and considerably easier than the previous iteration. The insult to the developers' lack of creativity comes when you not only run an obstacle course akin to the first Spec Ops level of MW2, but when a later mission involves running the same course in reverse. Spec Ops is helped by the inclusion of Survival mode, which continues the trend started by Gears of War 2's Horde mode and further continued with Halo ODST and Left 4 Dead. This mode allows the player to fight increasingly difficult waves of enemies across the multiplayer maps. Jarringly, unlike the other games just mentioned, both Spec Ops Missions and Survival modes are still limited to two players, either splitscreen or online. Given that Horde Mode in Gears 2 is responsible for the resurgence of the mode's popularity (which could be traced as far back as Unreal Tournament 2004), it is perplexing that Modern Warfare 3 fails to push past a simple two-player limitation. The era of two-player co-op, without justification (Army of Two, for instance, had a legitimate justification for its restriction), should have ended with the four controller ports on the Xbox or at least the emergence of viable online console play. The third option for the game is the multiplayer. Other than a slight adjustment to killstreaks, the only difference between Modern Warfare 2 and 3 in this regard is the cosmetic change of new maps and a few new weapons. Even the two game modes touted by marketing are nothing more than variations of team deathmatch. Team Defender is essentially Halo 3's Juggernaut mode, but adapted to team play. Kill Confirmed is nothing more than team deathmatch, with each corpse dropping tags that need to be collected for the kill to be scored. Neither is hardly a revolution in multiplayer, heradling the culmination of the spin-off series' decline in innovation.
The curiosity of multiplayer gaming is the only motivation to purchase the game. The multiplayer element remains largely unchanged since Modern Warfare 2, even though Black Ops offered a more robust system - the balance of unlocking and purchasing equipment was far more enriching than simply unlocking the gear as in MW3. However, the mainstream has moved on from MW2 and Black Ops to MW3, for better or worse. Finding a server in either game is made all the more difficult with the bulk of players moving on. The question one must ask is, how badly do I want to pay for a game I already own? Unfortunately, the disparity between critic response and user response seems to indicate that, had these concerns been brought to light earlier, the third title would not have outsold its predecessor. Critics and consumers bought into hype that was delivering a diluted product. Expect to see this title stacking the pre-owned shelves as there is not enough content to leave this on your shelf at home.

The single player Campaign is not why I bought Modern Warfare 3, but I did enjoy the plot for the modern warfare series (especially the first one), but I can't really say I feel the same about this game's campaign. The plot was weak at best, bouncing around from location to location fighting off Makarov's shinnanigans with different teams of undeveloped characters who for some reason all seem to know each other closely with very little explanation of how (particularly Sandman and Price).

Spec-ops is basically horde-mode from Gears of War, was fun for about 30-40 minutes and then I got bored, I'm sure there are people out there that will enjoy it, but it's not really my thing and I didn't feel that it had too much in the way of extended entertainment value.

Now to the real core of Call of Duty; the multiplayer. They essentially threw out the majority of the positive changes black ops had implemented, made a rehashed version of their player statistics into call of duty elite which you can't even check in game between matches. They brought back quick scoping (which is basically nothing more than abusing aim assist), location lock Javelin missiles which have more power than a predator missile and can reach more than half way across the map. The maps themselves are filled with tight corners and I swear the flanking routes to the flanking routes have flanking routes...combine that with what can be questionable spawning locations and claymores/bouncing bettys which only work maybe 30% of the time you can expect to be shot in the back a lot. New strike packages are pretty cool, Assault is pretty much the same as ever, I think Specialist is awesome, and then there's support which for reasons unknown holds the stealth bomber killstreak. Aside from maybe the sentry gun, which I can accept as more of a defensive oriented killstreak a strike package that doesn't reset on death should not have offensive based killstreaks like a stealth bomber which I usually see about 5 times a match if not more. Advanced UAV, Stealth Bomber and EMP were some of the most valuable killstreaks attainable in previous games, now they're tossed around like loose change, even if your actively seeking out and killing the players on the other team who are getting kills you can do nothing to deny them these streaks which can be relatively frustrating. My final gripe with this game isn't a balance issue but the matchmaking and hosting in general, the lag and poor connectivity in games is horrendous, 3/4 games will have lag issues, 1/4 will just die and send you back to the lobby, I've never had these issues playing any of the previous Call of Duty titles (should probably note I play on xbox360).

In summary I wouldn't write this game off completely, it has a lot of potential, and it still has the solid mechanics of any modern warfare game, but they've definitely taken a few steps backwards, and if you're a player used to a high K/D ratio be prepared to get really frustrated as maintaining much above a 2-1 k/d is a lot more difficult than previous games.

However the true disappointment comes from this unseen and more felt out process of MW3 it feels like something is always working against you in this game weather its the death by latency or poor spawning mechanism with no spawn protect to help you at least move for 2 seconds, the game doesn't feel right. The story was the only thing that will get a semi positive rating since seeing the Michael Bay stuff is pretty cool and nice to end this story arch. Now the bad things The story was just well predictable 80's movie style I'm sorry but only 3 men should be able to do what Pierce did well 4 men Chuck Norris, Arnold, Sly, and Willis. The Multiplayer is the worst out of all the MP's and Sure I don't have an amazing K/D Ratio I don't see how I really could, being an Old school CoD Player (Yes, PC CoD back in `04) I play aggresive/conservative objective style modes, plus a lot of my death's have come from one death that gets stack into 3 or 4 due to spawn camping and tiny jam packed maps. Next we have the rehashing of almost everything in game , I feel like I got mugged by the lazy computer nerd with a phaser. The only big thing I notice different in CoD is Assassin Pro which in my honest opinion shouldn't be in this game at all its overused and abused to encourage camping, Don't even think about jumping my case about that you all know it's the truth and I would rather have no perks and killstreaks just the standard UAV, Art strike and Heli like CoD 4. You want to know what ruined this franchise it's those KS and Virgin Halo cast offs that only care about a K/D, that's what made this game garbage a new incoming fan base that a company is making a glutton for spoiled gamer syndrome. Black Ops repackaged and dressed up with the MW2 stories. Just look at some timing between MW2 and MW3, then look at BF2 and BF3. Even if you space between the franchises most recent titles (Black Ops and Bad Company 2) Dice clearly has the advantage of rational development pace. Both MW3 and BF3 have their own faults and strengths, both had horribly cliche ridden single-player that could have been left out for the sake of polished multi-player. Sales for both games assure us a bright future of recycled, unimaginative, laugh-at-the-consumer titles. Those of you who keep buying these half-assed products will only make it worse. We all know that the majority of COD fans buy the games nowadays for the multiplayer experience that COD 4 pioneered. I consider myself and my friends to be a pretty well skilled group of players who have spent alot of time and money on these games. All of them until Modern Warfare 3 would have recieved a moderate to high score from me. But I do not feel as if Sledgehammer, or IW really listened to the gaming community before they made this game. If they had, there would have been a clear and tangible difference to the newest addition. Sure we all know that the game is going to be VERY similar to the others. We pay for the game knowing this. But we ALL expect each and every new addition to be an improvement on the last games. With so many COD's before Modern Warfare 3, there simply is no excuse for the plethora of issues this game has. Sure, at times, it is a fun game. But when entire groups of players 6 or more in numbers are getting fed up and going back to Modern Warfare 2 or even Black Ops, ( God Forbid), Sledgehammer, IW, this is a problem. I have both Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield 3 and I can honestly say I have had more fun, and less frustration playing battlefield 3, even without people I know, than I have Modern Warfare 3. The way I see these games, they are an investment. And after 300$ for all three Modern Warfare games and Black Ops, (not to mention DLC for all of them), I am beginning to think I have invested in the wrong game to provide me my fun. To the makers of EVERY Call of Duty game: Thank You, it has been a wild ride. But we are growing apart. I just cant stay in a relationship where I give and give and give, and you take and take and take without any concern for my opinion on the matter. Save yourself the heartache of a lost 60$.

My initial impressions were that MW3 is terrible, and sadly it is still my opinion. Infinity Ward made promises to 'fix' the problems with MW2, and make it more like cod4, meaning less overpowered kill streaks, faster pace, and more focus on gun-on-gun battles. They failed in every single aspect in what they promised. MW3 rewards bad players who aren't able to string together kills and rewards them for playing slow paced. It also punishes people for trying to play fast paced and aggressive. First of all, the maps are terrible. There are so many different paths leading to the same location it makes it very easy for people to flank you. Creating less gun-on-gun battles and very slow paced gameplay because people just sneaking around corners. This favors inexperienced players because people who have no idea what they're doing are able to accidentally sneak up behind people and shoot them in the back. Next, the support strike package is absolutely idiotic. It is a system that rewards bad players who are not able to get multiple kills in a row. Also, it is a support class, not an assault class. There should be absolutely no lethal kill streaks in the support package. Period. However, the biggest problem of all is the perk assassin. This is most overpowered perk in the history of call of duty. People complained of ghost from black ops being overpowered. How did Infinity Ward respond to that complaint? Doing the exact freaking opposite. They made it even more powerful. Being immune to counter UAV, EMP, and advanced UAV! What were they thinking!? There is no counter to it. This perk is what is most responsible for the slow paced, boring, camping behavior that is oh so prevalent online. I found myself almost forced to use it at times because of the excessive amount of enemy UAV's people are able to get because of the support strike package. People may counter this by saying that you are able to shoot the UAV's down. This is true. However, another stupid move by infinity Ward was to make the UAV's extremely hard to see. And on most maps, there are so many buildings you can't shoot down anything. Lastly, the matchmaking system took a step backward. There is no locale only search option. I'm tired of being put in games where I get killed without even seeing who shot me. Then i look at the killcam and from their point of view they were right in front of me! Bottom line: MW3 is a huge disappointment. They took one step forward and 10 steps backward. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 is an add-on to a controversial series such as it's predecessors. The game brings back all the things that we love and love to hate about Call of Duty. I will review the three modes (Campaign, Spec Ops and Multiplayer) into different categories and review, since it's what they deserve.
Campaign - The campaign takes after the events of Modern Warfare 2 and continues with a slightly new cast which includes Captain Price, Soap and Makorav, and also some new characters like the men in the delta team and Yuri. (An ex-spetsnaz) I was disappointed with the story compared to the last installment. (Call of Duty Black Ops) The ending wasn't as good either, I feel it wasn't much as a ending as it was a thing the storyboard writers written when it hit 12 am. Spec Ops - Spec Ops was a mode that was added two years ago in Modern Warfare 2, I found that I enjoyed playing the missions in Spec Ops enjoyable to play. When i played the original missions I got bored really easily bored, but the missions in Mw3 were revamped and the layouts and objectives were reasonable and fun, especially with a friend.
Multiplayer - Fun, but it didn't live up to my expectations for a good game. It (Like many other fans say) is a edited version of the Modern Warfare 2 system. I found it fun, but it could have been WAAY better. I have to give Raven Software credit however, the made a decent multi-player in which people can't get addicted to it. I will add my scores together:
3 points - Campaign - It added a mediocre ending to the mediocre series, I thought it was good enough however to get a three. 4 points - Spec Ops - The added missions and survival mode are a huge part of the replayability in this game, I love it! So I will give it four points.
1 Point - Multiplayer - I give it a one because It's nearly the exact same system as before with absolutely no risks taken for the ending part of the series. The only thing difference is a little bit better graphics and a touch of new guns, and some poorly made maps. I will only give it a one because it's RS' first time at a COD multiplayer mode.

Also, i hate the maps in black ops but i would gladly play any of the black ops maps instead of **** awful mw3 maps. They said that making them smaller would reduce camping **** the way they made the new maps only further encourage camping which ruins the gameplay experience. Also, the lag compensation and hit detection is worse than black ops which i thought was as bad as it could get, guess i was wrong. Anyways to wrap this up i give this game a 7 out of 10. I can't play this game because Activision have allowed a broken product to leave the developers studios. We are just three weeks post-release and already we have had 4 update patches - this means that the programming was not correct when it started to ship, i.e - an unfinished game, rushed to get it out in time for Christmas cash-in.

The problem is that you must play with people from your own country, but for smaller countries and States, nobody is online at all sometimes so you cannot play this game. I bought XBox Live to play people from around the world, not just my area code. There is no option to choose otherwise, so your chances on playing this game depends on whether or not someone else in your area code is online also which is a pain in the backside after 11pm to say the least as if it wasn't difficult already for smaller populated area's.
For example, Europe is divided into individual countries instead of the E.U - all this makes matchmaking a total frustration. It's just definitely unplayable. Then we have the lag - the bouncing and jumping all over the place, the hitmarkers, the bullets that can turn corners, pointstreaks are overpowered (once a chopper is called in, you can't hide from it and SAM turrets take an age to take it down). There are glitches everywhere and the maps are not as good as previous installments yet, the talk about bringing them back such as Terminal, Favela, Crash, Shipment into MW3 doesn't make much sense to me because we've been asked to pay $100 for a NEW GAME, why bring back all the OLDER MAPS? Is this an acceptance that MW3 is not good enough? Or is it simply laziness on the developers part not to be creating new maps? It doesn't make any sense....

However, even if all these bugs were fixed tomorrow by IW, Sledgehammer and Raven - the main problem with the Call of Duty franchise is the type of players it tends to attract. The community are not focused on winning the game as a team, and tend to ignore their bomb that has been detonated, their flag that has been captured or even to capture the dog tags in Kill Confirmed (which is the whole point of that gametype), it honestly bewilders the mind with a complete lack of any kind of recognition regarding the team mates and the objective. Ultimately, it is the mainstream light that COD has moved into during these past number of years that is ultimately killing the series altogether. The franchise has gone so mainstream now that the developers are no longer producing a game they aimed for back in 2007 with the release of MW1. I don't know who their target demographic are anymore, but it sure as hell is not the same people that purchased the original Call of Duty back in 2003. I gave this game a rating of 2 because i did enjoy the campaign, albeit a very short over-the-top cheesy and korny HollyWood style at times. If you have COD: MW2 - stick with that.

    I hope this helped.

Big deal. Weapon levels? Who cares. Sounds like IW's version of the Madden hit stick. And as for being the most balanced CoD yet, I say boo. Ever hear of the Type 95 IW? Someone dropped the ball on balancing that thing out. Essentially MW3 is nothing more then a really big expansion pack for Modern Warfare 2. I mean if you really really liked MW2 then this is the game for you, but after awhile don't you get tired of the same old thing? Everything is more or less the same. I hate to break it to you Activision but Battlefield has for sure set up shop in your town. And they mean to get bigger and better. I have played every CoD video game since the first. Once call of duty 4 came out it was a complete game changer, but since then, not much else has changed. Modern Warfare 3 promised so much and barley lived up to it at all. Starting off with the Single player, it felt extremely lacking of a solid story or even relevance to the game, some may disagree with me on that point but in my opinionI have played every CoD video game since the first. Starting off with the Single player, it felt extremely lacking of a solid story or even relevance to the game, some may disagree with me on that point but in my opinion it didn't live up to the current day first person shooter campaigns. If you take a game like Modern warfare 3 and compare it to other first person shooters like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Battlefield 3, Rage and Resistance 3 the campaign just doest do the game justice. Now on to the Spec Ops. Yes it is a great addition to the game, it is basically the game mode that makes up for no cooperative campaign. I find some of these fun but on the other hand i feel that they were something that activation just threw in due to lack of creativity. It was new and innovative in MW2 but i found it rather old in MW3. They were just boring and didn't really add much to the game unless your trying to get all of the achievements/trophies in the game. Now onto the point that most people get the game for, multiplayer. Yes the multiplayer is fun and addicting but theres nothing really new to the multiplayer. The multiplayer feels rather lacking of the main point, but people will keep buying this game no matter how much they change or add to the game. Its just the same every year, just like the Madden series, i just can't justify people buying a new Call of Duty game every November. Maybe if they just took a break and released a game every 2 or so years they would actually have time to make it a fun and worthwhile game. With modern warfare 3 i felt that you were just buying a new map pack and some new guns. Overall i think this game really disappointed and didn't live up to the hype just as its predecessors have done. But it is another game and fun to a certain point, I am not bashing this game in any way shape or form, just giving my honest review. This game is just rather simple and bland. I can't see it living up to other modern games released this winter. Hope this review helped!! Expand

In all honesty I approached this game with some skepticism. I loved Modern Warfare, but absolutely loathed Modern Warfare 2. A friend convinced me to buy the game, however, and after a couple weeks with the game my impressions are as follows:

Campaign: Like Modern Warfare 2, it is pretty short. I beat it on hard (not veteran) in about 5 hours. The story is a bit more coherent this time around, but I still feel nothing for and could care less about any of the characters. The scenery makes you feel like you're showing up after something totally awesome just happened, while the game guides you down a series of rails on turret guns half the time. "Meh" is really the only word to describe the experience. At best, the campaign is serviceable.

Competitive MP: What a **** I thought MW2 was bad. This... this is something terrible. There is no shortage of frustrating WTF moments when watching kill cams. Perks ruin any semblance of balance. Killstreak rewards leave out any hint of fair competition (juggernaut suit, seriously?). The MP feels like I'm playing tag at an elementary school. Every map is a circle that has a pathway cutting through the middle; it just has a different coat of paint. Speaking of paint, the color scheme in the MP is awful. Each map picks a color and focuses on it which leaves everything just sort of blending together incoherently at medium to long distances. I know that it doesn't seem worth griping about, but stare at the screen long enough and it gets annoying. If people wanted evidence of copying and pasting, look no further than the MP. The dialog and voices are taken straight out of MW2. The sound files are literally pulled out of MW2. The MP constantly rewards you with trinkets to make you feel like you're progressing. I don't like that so much. If I'm doing bad, let me know. Don't tell me I was the best at falling from high places and surviving or spending the most time aiming through my scope. Tell me what I did that caused my team to lose. Don't try and make me feel good about things that don't matter.

Co-op MP: The new survival mode is fun enough, but it doesn't do anything better than other games that offer similar modes. I can see myself going back to that mode for some fun with a friend, but why is it limited to two players when every other game out there offers a minimum of four? The same with spec ops. The spec ops mode is the same as MW2. It's fun for one play through, but there really isn't much point after that in my opinion. And the two-player limit is disappointing. I was hoping for bigger ops with more players. But it didn't deliver in that regard.

Overall: People say the game is solid. This is true. A shooter that runs at 60 FPS consistently is hard to come by on a console these days. But, I would happily take a hit in FPS for more visual spice--some aspects actually look graphically worse than its predecessor--and improved animations (which are awful, by the way). The game engine is showing its age. I have a 1996 Subaru with 200,000 miles on it. It works. It gets me where I'm going. I fix it up and keep it working. But eventually it's going to die, and I wouldn't pay premium price for it. The same with this game. For that reason it's taking an additional hit on the overall score I would give it. This game is not a $60 game plain and simple. It's an expansion pack. While I do consider games art, I also factor in value. Modern Warfare 3 doesn't deliver on either front.

Also, this isn't about BF3 vs. MW3. Modern Warfare 3 is bad REGARDLESS of Battlefield 3. Not because of it. It's just a game that falls on the higher side of poor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 is an awful game. Simple as that. After watching the MP briefing at CoD XP, i really believed that this latest instalment could, at least, breath life into this stale franchise. However, MW3 is merely a lazy, copy and paste effort of MW2. In fact, everything in MW3 is a massive expansion pack, which could easily have been added into its predecessor, with nothing new or innovative added.
MW3's story picks up where MW2 left off with Captain John 'Soap' Mactavish fighting for his life after getting stabbed and left for dead and the continuation of the Russian invasion of the United States. Vladimir Makarov, the mastermind of the invasion, is still at large after his escape at the end of MW2 and the hunt for him takes you to various locations across the world from the East Coast of the US to mainland Europe and Africa as you view the conflict through the eyes of various characters.
The game's presentation, while not terrible in anyway, is quite unremarkable. The game is identical to MW2, in terms of visuals and gameplay. You'll still get massive firefights and giant action set pieces but for those who've played previous titles in the series (which would be most of you) you will find nothing special. The voice acting, however, is generally very good with Billy Murray and Kevin McKidd putting in fantastic performances once again as the iconic protagonists Captain John Price and Captain Soap MacTavish. Craig Fairbrass, who voiced Gaz and Ghost in MW1 and 2 respectively, also returns to voice Sergeant Wallcroft of the British SAS (who had a minor role in MW1). However, much to my disappointment (and to the disappointment of others i'm sure), Fairbrass' role is extremely minimal compared to his previous roles. William Fichtner and Timothy Olyphant also put in decent performances as Delta Force operatives Sandman and Grinch. The soundtrack by Brian Tyler is also good, however it lacks that epic feel that Hans Zimmer expertly delivered with his score in MW2. However, Hans Zimmer is in a league of his own so to compare him with other composers is massively unfair.
Gameplay in MW3 is frustratingly similar to past entries. Usually this involves things like fight your way towards destroying objectives to rescuing hostages to defending locations. Its become too familiar and doesnt represent a satisfying challenge. In fact I completed the SP campaign on veteran difficulty in 3 days with relative ease as the gameplay mechanics have become so overused to the point where it becomes so predictable. Spec ops returns and, as before, can be fun for a short while but there is no real reason to play multiple times once you get every star. Survival mode, a new mode in which you defend yourself from infinite waves of enemies, works just fine in MW3 but is hardly innovative as it has been seen in many other franchises. The MP is where the game really disappoints. Robert Bowling, community manager of Infinity Ward, promised that the MP was more balanced than before. This is true to some extent. Certain perks which overpowered players such as OMA and commando have been removed. Perks that gave players power advantages such as stopping power and danger close are also gone. Familiar perks such as Sleight of Hand and Steady Aim have been tweaked to allow pro variants that better complement and balance its base variant e.g. SoH Pro allows faster weapon swapping as opposed to faster aiming. Shotguns are thankfully primary weapons once more and the game ending nuke doesn't return. This means that there is more focus on gun on gun gameplay that relies more on skill than perks and less reliance on air support to do the work for you. However, the same frustrating problems still exist. For starters, the matchmaking system is awful as ever. Playing team games is an extremely frustrating affair as the same gung-ho, lone wolf style of play remains, where players care more about their KDR rather than playing the objective. Even with the new pointstreak system, where you are rewarded with points for taking out air support and capturing objectives as well as racking up kills, you will still find players who play solely for kills rather than objectives. Is it really that difficult to go to TDM to improve your KDR? Even in TDM you will find bad players who don't know they're doing and will often lose matches for you. Camping exists tenfold in all game modes, mainly due to the poor map design as well as the inclusion and abuse of the blind eye and assassin perks which render you immune to air support and recon devices. Stealth is perfectly fine but using it to camp is game breaking. The terrible spawn system, which has marred the last 2 titles, has returned along with the awful hit detection which makes for a frustrating experience overall. If you're looking for a rewarding shooter get Battlefield 3 instead or perhaps get Call of Duty 4 the last great CoD game

And personally I thought Gears 3 was less than amazing, But I have had some fun on Call Of Duty games, for all the inevitable frustration that goes with them. I'll admit, my favourite was World At War, but I played COD 4 enough and spent some time on Modern Warfare 2 before I got distracted by something else and never came back. I will say I wasn't really interested in the campaign. Despite completing COD 4 and MW2 I can't really remember much at all and I'm not a big fan of this kind of on rails campaign anyway. I doubt I'll ever complete this one with Skyrim and even Saints Row: The Third still to be played. The new Spec Ops modes are entertaining enough, though. At least it wasn't zombies again, right? And even if you liked the zombies, at least they're not charging you money for the same old zombies mode (at least for now,) right? Anyway, multiplayer is exactly what I expected; Modern Warfare 2, more or less. As a casual COD player I can't really tell the difference. And by reading this, I'm guessing you kind of fit into the same crowd. Don't get me wrong, it plays well enough and it's still worth some fun but it's nothing new and it still has the same set of problems, especially with not using dedicated servers... I know people have ranted about that fact since it was released, but it is annoying. The weapons roster consists of exactly the guns you could have guessed... AK, M16, etc. They're 'customised' in the same ways. But as mediocre an offering as Black Ops was, at least it had a crossbow and a **** axe to mix things up a bit. The maps aren't great either. They mostly look cool but they're not a lot of fun. I can understand the phrase 'if it ain't broke don't fix it,' but I would have used something more along the lines of 'not bad, not perfect' to describe the last few games, and that's definitely true this time around as well. I'll give it a 6, because while it's still good enough to exceed mediocrity, it's nothing amazing or even new. I'll still play it until I get bored, but sadly I can already feel it'll be collecting dust on a shelf in my local CeX soon enough. Expand

The story went from harrowing and exciting to predictable and cliche. The engine now feels stale. The multiplayer is where I encounter the biggest problems. The hit detection is atrocious to a point beyond frustration. It's no fun being killed when you're 5 feet around the corner. The spawning system is still laughable as I was easy pickings on many occasions. But my biggest gripe about this installment are the maps. Following up classic maps from MW and MW2 was going to be difficult but it feels like IW just didn't put forth the thought and effort into these. Yes they gave us a lot more maps but this is a classic case of quantity over quality. Many of the maps are breeding campers and hole up points. There are a few choke points but those few are really abused. All this just encourages you to avoid that part of the map hindering your overall experience. With these problems, the replay value takes a hit and I haven't played the game for over a week. A prestigious franchise as COD shouldn't be taking a backseat to other games but the lack of entertainment and innovation has forced me towards more enjoyable experiences such as Skyrim and Uncharted 3. I've even ventured back into Battlefield 3 to appease my FPS craving. It may not have the polish that MW3 has but I'm having a better time with it. Expand

Disappointing sums MW3 up nicely. The trailers made it look like it was shaping up to be one of 2011's best games. Instead we got MW2 with a couple of add-ons. Multiplayer, is well MW2, it's the exact same, plays the same, looks the same but it does have some different kill streaks which is a positive. lets me start off by saying that ive been playing the call of duty games since cod 4... i am a huge fan of the series, but theres something about this game that gets to me. first the campaign, tho its short like all cod games, it still had a cool fictional story to it, never disappointing with that. next is the co-op, survival mode is pretty cool when i started to play it. but like anylets me start off by saying that ive been playing the call of duty games since cod 4... i am a huge fan of the series, but theres something about this game that gets to me. first the campaign, tho its short like all cod games, it still had a cool fictional story to it, never disappointing with that. next is the co-op, survival mode is pretty cool when i started to play it. but like any other endless wave based game, it gets old after awhile. but it is cool to switch up from mp... which brings me to the last part..... the multiplayer... like i stated before.. ive played the previous games, and got pretty far in most, if not completing all of the prestiges.. but there is something about this one.. first, it kinda feels like a glorified map pack, with new guns. ive always liked the (iw) infinity ward games better than the treyarch ones, but i feel that a lot of things that they made a step foward in black ops with, they took a step back with mw3.. now i here a lot of talk about the engines that are used for these games, yes it is starting to get a little outdated and if cod wants to stay up in the rankings in fps... they need to make some adjustment. back to mw3... i play both hardcore and core, mostly hardcore.. and i feel this hit marker system is a little off.. i shouldnt need 2 full 3 round bursts of a m16 to kill somebody. the lag in this game is kinda bad, i run around a corner and then die from behind me, i spray at a guy and somehow he runs thru my bullets and then shoots me.. its so aggravating... the spawn system, like always, i kinda bad... while playing team defender, i have the flag and is being protected by two fellow teammates in a building... and you wouldnt believe what happens next, THEY SPAWN LITERALLY RIGHT BEHIND ME. i love cod but i feel they need to step something up with the next one, or step down.. activision is known to drag out titles until they die...(tony hawk and guitar hero series) lets hope that they can do something about it. overall the game is ok... i know they couldve made this game so much better.. idk if it was this sledgehammer games company? or this new iw company... but something needs to change... Disappointing in the fact that, at its best, MW3 is a revision release. The fans deserve better but that type of incentive means little to Activision and the developers now. For them, all that's required is to 'copy, cut and paste', tweak, call it a new release, and go cash checks! A selfish and lazy formula. We, the fans, built their empire and this is how they reward us. The effort isDisappointing in the fact that, at its best, MW3 is a revision release. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
