Well where do I start. I'm not even gonna talk about single player because ppl play that for a few hours and jump to multiplayer, which is the main reason anyone buys this. Maps are small...really small, and they also suck big time. cod4 had really fun maps and stuff, but now they are just ridiculously small and stale. (but hey they will probably charge you 15 dollars for a map pack of the same old maps again), guns are the same...the exact same sounds and rate of fire and damage, only difference is they put a new skin on it to trick the young idiot fans. Quickscoping is still possible, same with dropshotting which are some of the dumbest things you can do in a shooter.

now why does this game get a 0? well first its because the developers tweeted to give it a higher score, and i will not trick more people into thinking this game is any different than mw2. after comparing online reviews of this game and bf3, i saw a lot of inconsistencies... in some bf3 was criticized for being similar to bad company...when in fact it wasnt, but this game was given a 9 for "being super duper fun"

well i dont know what kind of fun they are talking about. cod games always play the same, every map ppl will do the same thing they always do, why? because there arent many options, u can easily predict what will happen each time, where the snipers are, where the campers re, and where the rushers will go.

as for innovation, there is none, it the same game....the.SAME.GAME! so activision, pelase get ur priorities in order and stop dishing out the same game every single year. make something new perhaps try CHANGING THE ANCIENT ENGINE YOU'VE BEEN USING FOREVER, and try adding some physics to the game. why i like bf3 over this is because each game crazy stuff happens due to all the possibilities that are given. you never get the same experience.

ive been hearing the problem with giving a game 0 is that cod actually works fine and is playable...well ya, but its also a full priced dlc, so i dont know why paying 59.99 for a texture change should not be a 0. it gets a 0 because its not even a game, its just a god damn add on.

I have played COD video games since some of the first ones, bot that ended after Modern warfare 1, where the games just been the same and same again year after year, they all just a copy of modern warfare 1 just with new skinds and weapons? and every time they release 3x new maps and stuff. Too many critics praise this game when honestly it feels like a DLC. Graphics and gameplay are the same. Just some new maps and a few new guns. Tweaked the killstreaks which was a plus and the campaign was good, but everything else feels like a $60 DLC.

Modern Warfare 3 may not have many changes, but it's still a solid game. Let's start with the single player experience. It continues from when Modern Warfare 2 left off, with Makarov being the bad guy and Price and Soap trying to stop him doing bad stuff. Unfortunately, the single player for the Call of Duty series has really been demoted to a secondary exeprience, Multiplayer being the primary focal point. There's not a lot going on, World War 3 has come to the US, and you have to shoot a lot of Russian clones in the face while explosions happen everywhere. Sound familiar? The story is really like a Michael Bay movie, big and dumb with badass dudes yelling while jets and choppers and tanks make things go boom. I won't spoil anything, but really what happens in the story is gonna be forgotten as soon as you are done with it. It is a really short one too, as it took me just under 5 hours on normal. And you probably won't go back to play through it again unless you want those extra achievments you missed, wanna beat it on Veteran, or get the Intel collectible items. However, while single player falters, the multiplayer options are where the meat of the game truly is. Spec Ops has been more fleshed including a survival mode where 2 players shoot through wave of bad guys. Not really original, but is a bunch of fun with a friend. And it has a progressive unlock system just like the Multiplayer, so you'll spend lots of time on this mode. The multiplayer itself is still a good one, with some changes. There is now Strike pakages, and they determine how you get your pointstreaks. Yes, Pointstreaks, because now capturing objectives and destroying enemy equipment and planes and choppers count toward your streak. Anyways, Assault is the familiar one with rewards tailored to missiles, and choppers, offensive rewards. Support is my personal favorite, me being a team player, where your streak doesn't get reset when you die, and you get more team based rewards like radars, recon drones and an Emp (I love this one). Specialist is a very odd one, as you get perks based on how high your streak gets, and which perks you decide to choose, so at 2 you might do Scavenger, then 4 is Blast shield or whatever. At 8 kills, you get all the perks that you have unlocked and get a bonus for each additional kill. If you get to that without dying, fun times. As always the weapons and perks are real interesting and has something for every type of player, and prestige mode is back for the hardcore to reset and level up again. There are some minor gripes about certain streak rewards, the choice of server type (still no dedicated servers?), and many other things. It can get frustrating when the whole other team camps and uses Quickscoping sniper tactics to get AC130's and Juggernaught armor. But that's about the players themselves, not the game's fault. In closing, while the single player falters, the multiplayer is very fun. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a must buy. There's nothing like playing and levelng up with your buddies together. Expand

The main problem I have with MW3 is its lack of evolution. Many bring forth the argument that "If you say its the same as MW2, then you should give it the same rating." IGN, Gamespot, and other websites seemingly deliver their reviews from that standpoint. They openly admit to the games lack of progression, yet they still praise it. That being said, none of them address the fact that a blatant refusal to evolve in the video game industry is something that should go punished. The absence of any technical change whatsoever to the game is something that should be highlighted and taken into vast consideration when reviewing this game. The fact that Activision released MW3 in this form is insulting to the intelligence of the populous. Do they not think that we know how much money they have made off of the franchise? Do they think that we won't notice if they release the same game, year after year? Do they really think we are that stupid? The answer, unfortunately, is yes. The developers will sit on their billions of dollars and continually put the bare minimum into each game every season. And unless reviews are written that shed light upon this fact, and unless the majority of the gamers come out and express their dissatisfaction, people will continue to buy into this manipulative franchise.

Interesting that everyone is so quick to bash the graphics and the linear design of this game when all shooters are like this. I will admit that I was a little disappointed that there seems to be less sniper missions than ever before (those were always my favorite) but that aside, the game is awesome. Special Ops missions are really fun, and survival mode is pretty cool too, though I haven't fully sampled all the different levels. In short, if you don't like this game, chances are you don't like shooters in general. There is nothing unlikeable about this game, and the complaint that there are no new mechanics to the game-play only attests to how polished the first Modern Warfare was when it came out. I'd like to point out that Black Ops actually took a lot of the same mechanics that Modern Warfare used, so it's not really fair to bash Modern Warfare 3 for using the same mechanics that it used in Modern Warfare seeing as how the mechanics were (and in my opinion, still are) so advanced when they were first introduced. I do wish they incorporated the running dive that Black Ops had though. Expand

Btw, Bowling if you're reading this, you are such a troll (e.g. the "ecstatic" announcement of Last Stand being removed, then leaving Final Stand in). There are still weapon imbalances, but at least the support for the game by the devs is much better compared to MW2, though that's not saying much considering the debacle that occurred during MW2's post release. Speaking of support, the support strike package is absolutely devastating in the hands of good players. Killstreaks are pretty much nullified in this game due to map design, great team players with Stingers, and the ability to scroll through your killstreaks so you'll save that EMP for when you really need it.

Aesthetically, the game is pretty much a copy+paste. If, by any chance, this is your first time playing CoD since MW1, you won't get lost. At all. If you jump from MW2 to MW3, the only difference you'll notice is that the backdrop of the menus is a darker shade of grey. Graphically, there is little to no difference, which is inevitable since they're still using the same engine since MW1.

The campaign was rather forgettable. Then again, it was pretty hard to top the MW1 campaign, but more action-packed set pieces after action packed set pieces kind of nullifies the player to such spectacles since the saying "you've seen them once, you've seen them all" applies here. Only exemption is the collapsing of the Eiffel Tower, nothing against the French. Spec Ops is pretty fun, as the missions offer a different take on the scenarios players experienced in the campaign. Survival's leveling up system is a welcome addition, as it gives players incentive to play on as the unlocks really help to survive the later stages. Overall, is the game deserving of the hate? That's arguable, as I'm sure considerable efforts could've been made to really move the game forward. The budget shouldn't be a concern, for obvious reasons. It's really a love it, hate it kind of deal, but more incorporation of community feedback would be welcome. After all, consumers purchase their games, and they're the ones to please. Complaining about metacritic scores is one thing, failing to act upon constructive criticism is another. While the latter is evident, it is still sufficiently lacking.

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 3 IS A GOOD GAME. FALLS SLIGHTLY SHORT FROM BEING A GREAT GAME BUT FAR FROM A BAD GAME

There has been a lot of mixed opinions and a lot of hate on here. I am giving my honest unbiased opinion The main reason for the hate is the lack of innovation seen in the last few call of duty's which is no different here. This game does the same job as black ops did, its more or less a refined version of MW2. However some see this as a bad thing and some see it as a good thing. The lack of innovation is disappointing which leaves it short from being a great game, but its still a good game and far from a bad game. The controls remain mostly unchanged since cod4, but they still remain to be the fps shooter controls around. The graphics are solid, they arnt groundbreaking but they are not bad either. The FPS is excellent as usual with the modern warfare series. The sound however is rather hit and miss and overall quite disappointing. The voice acting most of the time is great, but at times can actually be a little bit inconsistent as their tone of voices change irrelevantly at times to the situation you are in. The music is typical modern warfare series music, which is a rather dramatic movie music. The major flaw i think in the sound however is the guns, they all sound very similar and sound rather tinny, the sound effects of explosions, guns, etc are very disappointing, when in previous call of duty's the sound was good or always at least on par.

Single Player: Is a good campaign, not great though just good. There are moments there that really do blow you away and are as epic as it comes in a game, but then there are parts that are boring and predicable. I would say this campaign is as good as the CoD 4 campaign however nothing will ever beat the moment when that nuke went off unexpectedly. The voice acting and characters are great, but at time the voice acting can be poor, in the sense of when major things happens the typical call of duty was its just so fast paced that you don't get time to appreciate what is going on. The story's pacing is just poor, you are all over the place, going to different locations over the world instantly and it often feels like youve skipped a mission or some soft of cut scene, its just too fast paced to be able to seriously follow the storyline. (Im not talking about gameplay wise) Spec Ops: Is a refreshing new mode that takes us away from Treyarch's hit Zombies. Its not really innovative though, it seems like its just copied from a lot of other co op mode games *cough gears of war*, It is however a great fun mode, that is an alternative to zombies. However Zombies still remains to be the better co op mode, but Spec ops Survival has potential to become as good as zombies. There just isnt enough content and things to do as it stands, not enough upgrades to weapons, killstreaks and perks, and you dont get that sort of build you do with zombies where you have to get money to open doors, buy perks PaP etc, its almost just all there for you once you unlock them with the level progression system, which I thought would of been a good idea, but it isnt executed properly within survival mode i just think the leveling up just a bit of a gimmick. Don't get me wrong though the Spec Ops Survival mode is still great just a tad disappointing Multiplayer: Well in a nutshell its the same old.. that could either mean its a great thing to some or a bad thing to others. I am sort of stuck in between that crowd. I loved Mw2 and what they have done is kept the formuler but simply beef it up, better perks, point streak system and a complete balance of the guns including a good leveling up your gun system. Prestege shop. The new additions are certainly great, i love the perks, its the best call of duty for perks, i love the gun leveling, and I like the new pointstreak system, i also really like the two new modes kill confirmed and team defender. However playing 18days of mw2 is all this really enough to keep me playing mw3? In other words is a much more refined and improved mw2 but very similar, so if you didnt like mw2 chances are you wont like this, if you loved mw2 but hated the overpowered things in the game such as the killstreaks and guns+perk combos then you will love this, if you have grown tired of mw2 then this may get stale for you very quickly.

I only gave it a four because it still holds some semblance of a game. I've played Call of Duty since CoD 2 on the PC, and I have to say in comparison, MW3 has become Modern Warfail 2.5. The campaign is lackluster, the MP is absolutely ridiculous. I didn't feel anything when Price killed Makarov. The sound, the spectacle of it all was off the charts. and this is something that has gotten bigger and better as the series has gone on. Not many first person shooters have changed the wheel over the years and i never MW3 to do it so i got was i was expecting. I understand where the frustration comes with regard to multiplayer. It hasn't changed a great deal. Kill Confirmed and some of the new killstreaks are a nice addition but it is essentially the same thing. But if you bought this game purely to play multiplayer than that is your own fault for being dissapointed. You should have bought battefield 3 which hasn't got any hate compared to MW3 and the campaign in that game put me to sleep. The graphics were incredible but the rest of it just doesn't hold up to the MW series. So yea i gave it an 8.0. and i think that is accurate. anyone new to the series would be blown away by what MW3 has to offer (campaign or otherwise). and veterens to the series know what they are getting and last i checked millions are playing it. Is that enough? I don't think so, year after year we hear about how the call of duty series obliterates record after record in sales. This game in one week has profited more than 700 milion dollars, with that much of a profit I think Activision could invest a little more in innovation, making better graphics, bigger maps, adding new variables like ambient distruction or just putting out servers so that we don't lag anymore!
Another trend that started lately is the lack of free space in a map, why put sniper rifles when there isn't a map built for it, I like snipers, if they're good they help a lot and if they're bad are fun to kill, but bit by bit maps are getting smaller and more crowded every year, with fewer lines of fire, making playing as a sniper impossible.
My rating for this game is 3, because with all the profits this game could have been so much more than an expansion of it's predecessors

COD is all about mutiplayer, after all of 3 hours you've beat the campaign. It's been a few weeks now and 30 hours of online play but time hasn't improved my opinion of the game. Camping and getting shot in the back is what MW3 is all about. Colors are washed out and the guns are unspectacular and all will one/two shot kill you from any range. The maps are a chaotic nightmare, prepare to streak (3 deaths, 4 kills, 4 deaths, 5 kills). You'll have a bunch of players run right out in front of you only to streak into the abundance of campers (lay in a sewer pipe with heartbeat sensor anyone) and your turn at bad luck by players coming out behind you. Low levels are a PITA, you get welcomed to the game by being absolutely punished by vets with all the attachments. If you make it through that tough spell there's a good chance you are ready to reap the rewards by turning off the game due to the fact you've already done it all. That's not to say the game doesn't have some fun opportunities. Mic up with 4-5 friends and you will run amuck through the maps. However if you're on the wrong side of that team you'll just find yourself grabbing your ankles. In the end MW3 is a good starting point for a game but misses all the small (see development time consuming) things that make a game great. We have been shown what game designers are capable of when they care, the depth and innovation that they can do when they want to (they make it painfully obvious they didn't care for MW3). Infinity Ward has had really four games starting with MW1 to really see what works and doesn't and tune and perfect the product, MW3 feels like a developer's first dive into the fps just throwing out what is already out there and not using any player feedback for development.

The first thing I thought when I started my first multiplayer game on this was, "This is a lot like COD4" and I was quite pleased with that since I liked COD4 more than MW2, but then it hit me. This is just blended **** of the same thing. Sound quality is still poor and the guns sound like stuff out of Star Trek. There were no memorable moments in the campaign. The multiplayer is boring since I already played MW2. The best thing they could think of was "Kill Confirmed" which isn't even Team Deathmatch with a twist (as they advertise) it's just team deathmatch. It's the same guns, the same campers. The only thing they've added is just more ways to get killed and more reasons to get frustrated with the game just as they did with MW2. And I can't get over the fact that the graphics and visuals are all the same! Explosions look and sound the same, guns look and sound the same, basically every animation that they have is just a copy MW2. The storyline in campaign is just a bunch of random events tied together with sketchy transitions. It's impossible to get attached to characters even though we've had them for three full games so any death in the characters is no where near as emotional as they expect it to be. If you want to get MW3, just keep playing MW2 because it really is just the same goddamn thing. I would think that because BF3 had just come out, that Infinity Ward would be doing their best to innovate and update rather than repackaging the same stuff. It's kind of like the iPhone 4s, change a bit here and there, slap an new title on it and call it the best thing on the market. Hopefully I can sell my copy to Infinity Ward's next victim on EBay. That said, I did think the first modern warfare had an awesome single-player campaign, the second modern warfare's co-op special ops were a ton of fun, and the Black Ops' multiplayer was actually really good. I have to admit also, that the first night i played MW3 I wanted to throw the game into the trash, so I can understand a few of the low reviews. The way the multi-player is set up, it is crazy frustrating for the new player coming in, trying to learn the new maps, and with no good weapons to use yet. This one, more than any of the others, I was crazy frustrated during the first few hours. However, once you learn the levels and open up some weapons, it is fun. And, even more fun so far for me, has been the new two player co-op survival mode. Have been having a blast. I wish it was 4 or 5 player co-op like other horde modes, but playing it with a good friend is fantastic fun. The special ops missions outside of survival mode dont seem as good as MW2, but they are fun. I have spent so much time playing survival so far, that I haven't even started the single player campaign yet, but I've enjoyed the rest of the game enough now to know that it deserves much better than what it is getting here, so I wanted to hurry and get a review up. Based on the fun I've had with survival mode, special ops, and even the regular multiplayer, I definitely don't think this game is a bust. Basically, if you are tired of COD, then there's no reason to buy it. But, if you still enjoy the series, and have a good buddy to play co-op with, I think it is definitely worth getting. Expand

I did, however, have times both in the campaign as well as the multiplayer that felt a little too familiar to the past entries in the series. But if you enjoyed those games, you'll have a good time with this one.

And people have to stop hating on the franchise so much. Yeah, it's still COD but have you seen any other FPS franchise change up it's routine in recent memory? Battlefield 3 is great, I know because I also own it, but it's multiplayer feels like a step back in comparison with Bad Company 2 (due to lack of destructibility mostly).

Stop hating on the franchise, and be glad that a game in this industry can become so popular. I'd love to see Bioshock be the game that pushes game sales and gets on every news station, but you should blame the people who never give these types of games a chance, not the games that have achieved such phenomenal success. The point I'm trying to make is that MW3 is actually a quality game with a smooth frame-rate, competent campaign, and a multiplayer/co-op mode that gives the game a sense of longevity. That's why I'm giving it a 9, the score I think the game deserves and hope that you kids hating on the franchise will grow up and at the very least give out some real criticisms next time.

The campaign is forgettable if not unplayable and boring, you can literally run through the game fire a couple shots and be done with it in the time it would take to watch a football game. But I think if you asked most players they would say they buy the game for the multiplayer aspect of it not the campaign. The MP is the same normal shooter you would expect from the COD series, yet this one has a darker color scheme. My problem with is is hackers or boosters and Sledgehammer or Activision doesnt do squat to fix it. The hit detection is generous, spawn killing is rampant and boosting is just as frivolent. I get more frustrated playing the MP on MW3 then any other game. For example, having Assassin Pro on the enemy shouldnt see your name or their reticle should not turn red. Well guess that doesnt work cause croutched in the shadows with a silenced weapon and Assassins pro perk on they were able to long shot me from across the map with a Assault rifle. The big question is how can they possibly see you if you cant see yourself on their kill cam??? Well I spent time in forums and boards you can find exploits for the radar and aimbots online already which really ruins the MP experience. Seriously, take the time to "google" hacks or exploits for MW3 you wills ee videos and a bunch of stuff which helps people cheat and boost. Activision should get their crap together, if you want a decent multiplayer game go play Gears of War 3 or go back to Black Ops its not as frustrating as this garbage......

So in my eyes the MW's are one game and the tweeners are a different one. Still though, the campaign on veteran is retarted. It is made so that no matter what you do, you will die until you pass a certain time. And the multiplayer is a joke. I dont care what anyone says (and i used to argue the other side) but COD promotes camping. You do better when you lay on the ground barely poking out from behind a corner than you would runnin and gunnin. Which is completely **** stupid. And dont even get me started on the lag. MW3 is similar to MW2 yes. You know why? Because MW2 was rated the best game by the community. If you made the best thing ever invented. And you planned on making something else. You would try to keep the basics that you had from your first invention. Thats what MW3 did. The new point system and weapon rank ups and proficiency add a fresh new experience to what MW2 already had going for it. However this is not a fanboy review so here are some things wrong with MW3. The spawns are way to close, I plan on this being fixed in a few updates or so. Another thing is that one gun in particular (Type 95) that is overpowered. But all of the little problems in this game can be fixed. And there not gamebreaking issues. A new company worked on MW3's multiplayer so it is expected that they make some simple mistakes. But if you liked MW2 and want a fresh new game. Then get MW3. and you Battlefield fans can hate all you want. While your here writing fake reviews. Ill be playing in-game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Does it innovate much? Quite a bit, but not enough. Is it still fun, of course!

If I were green to the Modern Warfare franchise, I would have rated this higher, however, I am not. This game has gotten pretty stale imho. Infinity Ward, your new killstreaks, perks and gametypes may be new but it doesn't change much for it to be considered something amazing.

Story: To be fair, time was spent on this, so I'll give it a go. The story is a globetrotting adventure that takes you everywhere from New York to India. While the amazing set pieces may blow you away, the story however, is pretty crappy. The amount of death and destruction has pretty much made me care less when some of the characters die. Frankly, I replayed MW2'sand COD4's campaign a few times, but I don't really care for this one.

Gameplay: Slick, tight and well controlled. It's just how a quasi-realistic FPS is supposed to be.

Multiplayer: Ah the draw of the game. I'll be fair again and I'll announce some of the changes. New perks, new weapons, new equipment (tatical and lethal), weapon proficencies, strike packages blah blah. IT is quite a large amount that was added. But then again, it doesn't really reinvent itself to be groundbreaking. The game is somewhat harder than before and quickscoping at close range seems to diminish in frequency. Also, it seems that they have tweaked the guns so that they are effective at their respective ranges only. Rifles are for medium, SMGs for short and snipes for long range. Picking something unsuited for your range type will leave you somewhat out gunned. Also, a new breed of overpowered weapons seemed to emerge. (Type 95s and akimbo FMG9s). However, with all those changes, you'll find that playing it would induce a "been there done that" feeling.

Sound: Nothing to complain about, the soundtrack is well composed and brings about the mood of the game. Voice acting isn't really bad, just fine. I do miss Sergeant Foley's constant "RAMIREZ!" soundbites though.

Along with Multiplayer comes cooperative Spec Ops. The traditional Missions return, offering a variety of challenges, and a new Survival mode has been added. Survival mode is incredibly addicting. You can order Predator missiles, buy new guns, and even call in AI controlled soldiers to help you out. Although sadly you may only have ONE friend play with you, which is a major letdown. And there of course is the campaign. I was throughly impressed with the MW2 story and looked forward to the sequel. The campaign started out strong, but then the story took a turn for the worse and became hugely disappointing in the end. I was heart broken for weeks. Over all Id say 2/3 of the game is fantastic, a great entry for the Call of Duty franchise. Expand

This review is purely to offset the negative reviews and make the score a little bit more fair. Call of duty began it's life as a single player action game and has never disappointed since, the story of MW3 is a direct continuation of 2 previous modern warfare titles and like a series of good books it keeps you interested and wanting to know what happens next. The gameplay feels a lot like a movie than a war simulator and I believe it is for the better because when it boils down the experience I would much rather jump into the action guns blazing than sit in a fox hole for hours stalking a target bored senseless, having said that at some points you are stuck following your "guide" which kinda takes away from what has been crafted. The ending is also rather predictable and disappointing seeing how this is the conclusion to the epic story.
I have seen a lot of people complain how the graphics have not changed since modern warfare 2 and my counter argument is do the graphics need to change? Modern Warfare 2 graphics were ahead of it's time as it is hold the strawberry jelly and look where it got the game, lax balancing and glitches through out have spoiled the experience for me personally. That is precisely why Infinity Ward was not going to make the same mistake twice, instead of the next next gen graphics crammed into aging consoles they have focused on the optimizations and post release bug-fixes which are being carried out outstandingly. Every new game will have glitches on release and with such a ridiculous audience every bug will be found and with a good support team they will not stay unpatched for long (don't forget IV has to jump through hoops to deploy patches on SONY and Microsoft consoles respectively).
And finally multiplayer, after several weeks of me owning and playing the game I have to say my ONLY gripe with this game is the lag, come on Infinity Ward (yes I'm talking to you) get some goddamn servers. Dedicated servers was one of the most requested features from modern warfare 2, it's nice how you tend to the bugs and glitches, but all of that means nothing if every time I join a game it feels like a rabid shotgun fest AND the killcams never match what I see, just saying. I would give this game 8/10 but there are alot of unfair reviews so I'll have to give it 9 just to offset the score :/

Multi-player: Same old yet still intense and fun to play and I do like the dog tag collecting after you kill someone, which actually ruins a camper's day and makes the matches more fair. To be honest, it's still the same as the other COD games but it's kind of pointless to bash it for its lack of originality because its not the only game franchise that has used their formula over and over again . If you got beat in MW, it was a real win for the other team. They weren't exploiting glitches, lag switching, JTAGging boxes, boosting and modding controllers just to win. They developed their play over TIME to get better and earn their wins. Unfortunately, this game has already been hacked (check out all the modded clan tags...X-Y-A-B buttons already) and exploited. This game fails because Activision has catered to the LOWEST common denominator when developing the game. And it was done intentionally for profit. It has become nothing more than ADHD kids getting their Ritalin fix via an $60 Xbox game. For the players who started with MW/CoD, notice how nobody even bothers to talk anymore during the game? Maybe the problem here is two fold now. Not just a bad game, but a bad gaming community. The two go hand in hand and both fall short. Look at most, not all, but most of the really positive reviews. It is from people who still cannot contain themselves to shout how great they are at this game while you suck. I'm trading mine in for something else. This series has run its course. Expand

And DICE goes on about the limitations of consoles, yet Naughty Dog proves them wrong by outshining them on PS3 graphically with Uncharted 3, even impressing some PC gamers - I'm sure. I was bored quite abruptly with Battlefield 3, the Single Player campaign was dull and the story was too similar to Black Ops' - the only thing I found any enjoyment in was playing Co-Op with a friend. On MW3 I was actually more impressed with the Presentation than I was expecting, especially considering that everything was running at 60 FPS around the even most intense moments. The rating here is unfair, it's become a trend to hate on something that's popular, and I can't say I'm surprised. There is so much content in this game, and so many hours of enjoyment. In regards to Single Player it ties up the story of the Modern Warfare trilogy, otherwise it's more of the same with lots of improvement, which is not a bad thing really. EA has treated their customers poorly by limiting their game to certain stores, and has said that they are going to ruin the Call Of Duty franchise once and for all like they did with Guitar Hero. So I'm not sure the haters of CoD know who they are following here, because this kind of attitude is damaging to the industry as whole. Expand

The maps were made to help eliminate "camping". Which it actually didn't. It made it SO much worse.
I stopped playing Black Ops for same three reasons I have dissappointingly found now in MW3: One, the graphics were subpar to Modern Warfare 2. I realize the setting was of course during the "Cold War"- Vietnam Era. But when you've playing MW 2, Black Ops is really second rate. Two, the non-stop camping. The maps created an environment completely tailor made for people to hide behind barrels and crates, hide in corners, lay on the ground down hallways; things that are truly irritating to people who can actually shoot. Two- thirds of every kill cam I observe is someone hiding behind something, already aiming down sight, and waiting for someone to run by unsuspectedly. Things of this nature rarely occured in MW2 because the maps were wider open, and with less obstacles to hide behind, making the game much more enjoyable for EVERYONE. The maps on MW3 completely represent the same exact problem in Black Ops. So whomever designed these maps with LESS camping in mind, COMPLETELY dropped the ball and obviously doesn't play the game enough to know what "camping" is. And third, the internal problems that are NEVER really addressed; hacking and glitching. I have spawned in front of 3 of the opposing team. I have had 3 of the opposing team spawn in front of me. WTH?! I have knifed someone who has disppeared, and actually knifed me from behind. ??? I have emptied a magazine into someone and not get a hit marker, but knifed them after the fact and kill them. WOW. And now, there are already people with " L2+R2+L2+R2" clan tags, already modding the game? WOW. Really? So overall, the series is no longer fun for me. I waited a year to play a newer version of Black Ops, when I could have purchased Battlefield 3 and tried EA's series out. I do not see Infinity Ward's work in MW3 at all. It looks as if Activision just purchased their logo to put on the game. I will defintely not anticipate any other installment of thr COD series, and be VERY cautious of my next purchase. I read that COD game designers are concerned at their poor reviews and are blaming competitors dilluting the actual opinion. Here is a message for Activision: I am not working for your competitior. Your game is almost unplayable in multi-player (ask anyone about the campfest you've created) and glitches mercilessly. Listen to your fans and stop making excuses on your poor ratings. Your game blows.

    What a pathetic effort!

Why change the established perk system to something so poor?
Why destroy sniping as a valid play style?
Why are the maps painfully small?

You can tell the 3rd rate sledgehammer guys had a part to play in developing this game.

This is easily one of the best single player campaigns in a modern shooter I've played for a while. It irks me that there are several review about this game, where the rating is a 0, not realizing there is a complete range of grades between 0-10, and this game is nowhere near a 0. At least not in my book.

The weapons in the game are accurate, the AI is for the majority of the game resplendent, and the levels are mapped exquisitely. While I agree that it doesn't add much of anything new to the series, it's still a really solid shooter. And while one can argue that it is MW2.5, and so forth, it's still pretty much what you'd expect from a SEQUEL. All I expected was a continuation of the story, some new characters, revisiting old characters, and a thrill of a campaign. This is what I expected, and its what I got. Sadly the graphics are getting outdated, and build upon the same engine used in COD4: MW. I'm reading some of the reviews from others on this site, and many of these say that the only good part is the story, yet they give it a 0. You'd think that would bump it up to a 2/10 at least. I am basing this review strictly from the single player and special ops, which are still good reasons to get the game. PROS:
    + Good story
    + Decent AI
    + Exquisite weapon design
    + Great sound design

    CONS:
    - Not much new content
    - Parts of the storyline become predictable
    - Graphics showing their age

So they have balanced that out now so killstreaks don't ruin matches. They have also given all the run and gunners the support streaks which I think is a good idea. My only problem with the game is the whole lag compensation thing. I often find myself hosting games and if I play late night then the Americans get such a huge advantage over me. I can run round the corner and shoot twice but when I look at the killcam I haven't fired once. I haven't played the campaign myself but I have heard it is too easy. Single Player: It's very good--short, but sweet as we've come to expect from COD campaigns. One change that I noticed in this one is that even on Veteran difficulty, your teammates actually shoot people--in the past, it seemed like this wasn't happening at all. The story is very strong and closes out Modern Warfare nicely. The campaign is by far the best part of the game. Multiplayer: So, here's where it gets ugly. You'll also notice that I place general complaints about the game in this section, but that's because I wanted to be fair to the other sections and not bog them down with critiques that I can easily place in the already horrible multiplayer section. Ok, so to summarize it's MW2 with different perks, kill streaks (packages), etc. There is some good here though--they've balanced out certain things and made the overall experience better. Problem is that this should have been done before MW2 was released--they let a game go two years with the most ridiculous imbalanced **** I have ever seen, and then they charge me $60 for the same game, but with the bull**** removed? This game is what MW2 should have been--plain and simple. The graphics aren't bad or anything, but they do feel dated now, as the engine is now 4 years old without any major improvements. Again, nothing horrible, but for this game I expected much more for my $60 considering the gameplay is a carbon copy of the previous entry in the MW series. Gameplay is again the same as before, however, I'm not sure if it's just me, but the quality of online play has seemed to decrease in every MW entry. Hit detection is at an all time low in terms of quality, and you'll find yourself many of times shooting ghosts that just won't die, but kill you in a single bullet. Then you watch the kill-cam only to find out that you weren't even shooting, or no one was there and the person that killed you with one bullet actually layed a half a clip into you. I'm not saying this hasn't happened in past games, but it just seems to be more frequent in this game--much more frequent.

The maps are an absolute disaster--this causes other issues as well (I'll get to that in a bit). The maps feel like a giant circle filled with objects--after the initial spawn, there is no sense of helping my team push forward, there are just people everywhere and massive amounts of spawn killing. This is partly due to the map design having no sides--it's constant shooting in the back and side. Not that this shouldn't happen from flanking, but the spawning coupled with map design causes it to happen far too frequently. The maps overall feel like a cluster **** There are a couple of gems in there like Bakaara, but a large percentage of maps are garbage.

ELITE was a great idea, but most of those statistics were available in Black Ops, so pitching it with the DLC as a pay service is a little offensive--it doesn't help that for the first couple of weeks that the service wasn't available. You didn't know how many people were going to log in? Really? Because you seem to make announcements about breaking pre-order records and such, so it's pretty obvious you have some idea of the number of players you'll have.

Matchmaking hasn't been a problem for me, so no real complaints there, but I do have a small beef with them including the modes Gun Game and One in the Chamber, but only making them available for a private match--I mean, what the **** good is that? Yeah, I have 8 friends available all of the time to play COD, so I can enjoy these two incredibly good game modes....nope I don't, and what a shame that I can't enjoy these modes online with other player not on my friends list.

Finally, I'll close out with the biggest issue with COD--not just MW3, but with the series in general: the community. The COD community are vile, ignorant, hateful excuses for human beings. There, of course, are normal players out there, but I've never seen such attention starved losers in my entire life. My favorites are the people who just make random annoying noises in the mic for the entire game. I truly hate interacting with most of these people--U MAD BRO?? lowlslzzz Seriously, the lack of sportsmanship is disgraceful--I remember playing MW1 and people saying "good game" to the other team. Nothing like that here--a bunch of raging, cheating, losers that enjoy attempting to make other people miserable, it really is pathetic.

In closing, if you have been a Modern Warfare fan from the start, at least pick it up for the campaign. For new players, tred lightly as the series is at an all time low, in my opinion.

If this game wasn't the sequel to the sequel of one of my favorite games of all time, I would give it a 5-6, but since it is I give it a 0 to display my disatification with the way Activision has handled this once glorious IP.

Rockets you have shot before you die still seem to vanish in mid air. You still get killed ten feet after making it around the corner when running from bullets...Server Snyching still is atroucious...Kill cams almost never resemble what you saw on your screen when you were killed...Shotguns still do ridiculous amounts of damage from 30 feet away, but assault rifles often can't take down a target with out using the full clip. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
